The otters we know will come and go, they're neither the first nor the last. There've already been plenty of different otter species, and whenever one otter went extinct a new otter soon followed in its tracks.

I mean, of course they're technically not otters, but you can't look at those pics and tell me those aren't otters.

PSA: Otters have taste. Please do not feed them. Otters only eat fresh fish from clean waters. They don't eat french fries, donuts or noodles. If you give them human food, you will kill them. If you have to feed them, give them otter food. Not dog food. Not cat food. Not fast food. Otter food. That's what they like, because they are Otters.

What do you think the future will hold for the otter? Short-term and long term?

Should Man go extinct, I believe they'll be able to replace us.

They can stand upright, have forward-facing eyes, and are able to use tools.

Some of them (smooth-coated, giant etc) live and hunt in groups where they're able to communicate and coordinate with each other.

Perhaps they'll go through the same kind of development that primates did when they became humans. Perhaps they'll develop better communication skills, maybe even a sort of language comparable to that of dolphins. Maybe they'll make more complicated tools, maybe even discover fire. I'd like to believe that could happen.

Of course, that's assuming we don't kill them all before that happens.

I was just wondering where you guys live. I live in the Netherlands and I went to Blanckendaell zoo near Tuitjenhorn, Noord-Holland, on World Otter Day, which is about a 1 hour bicycle ride from my home. I took a lot of pictures of the Asian small-clawed otters and the meerkats, however I think it would be nice to go together with another otter fan some day.

AquaZoo in Leeuwarden is also really nice. I went there with family a couple of years ago and there were giant otters.

If anybody else here lives in or near the Netherlands and/or knows other zoos with otters in or near the Netherlands, I'd love to know about it. This September I'm going to Japan so if anybody lives there or has recommendations, please, tell me too.

What do you people think about the whole fisheries conflict?

Anglers are saying otters are destroying river ecosystems. They say they were released irresponsibly and without regard for the environment. And fishery owners have been victimised by the otter because of killing all their fish. (They don't eat it they just kill it). Anglers have launched a petition to the UK government to control the otter population but it was rejected. I want to hear your opinion and what you think should be done.

After God had finished the rattlesnake, the toad, and the vampire, He had some awful substance left with which He made an angler.

An angler is a two-legged animal with a corkscrew soul, a waterlogged brain, and a combination backbone made of jelly and glue. Where others have hearts, he carries a tumor of rotten principles. When an angler comes down the street, men turn their backs and angels weep in heaven, and the devil shuts the gates of hell to keep him out.

>conflict

There is no conflict.

If some fish breeder's pond is being ravaged by otters, they can easily fence in their property. It's not the otters' fault if they refuse to do that.

As for the anglers, they have absolutely nothing to complain about.

1) The "problems" supposedly caused by otters in the ecosystem are either made-up or not caused by otters

2) Pollution and structural developments are causing far bigger problems for fish populations than otters

3) Otters need the fish to live, anglers just need it for their boomer hobby

4) Otters were there for millions of years, when did anglers get there?

I hope I answered all your questions.

Just look at that list on the right: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otter
