Just curious. How many of you who are still around are furries? I don't get why people are so against furry stuff. It's just an art style, right? Just like anime and manga style. While I do generally prefer anime and manga style above furry style, I do still like a lot of it, and there is some overlap (i.e. kemono).

It's an art style of people wanting to fuck anthropomorphic animals.
We just like otters. We don't want to fuck man-otters.

I know there is a lot of pornographic content but there is also a lot of clean content. Some of my favourite artists don't make any porn or very little at most.
I don't think you need to want to fuck anthropomorphic animals to enjoy the aesthetics of the anthro art style. Didn't we all grow up with cartoons featuring anthros? You know, like the Looney Tunes and Disney's Robin Hood?
In my opinion it's no different to liking anime and manga. You don't need to be into hentai in order to be into anime.

I understand that "furry" is a complex term with different meanings but the definition I use in this context is that of pertaining to anthropomorphic animals (i.e. talking animals that walk on 2 legs and act like humans, etc.), which includes funny animals from cartoons and comic books.
I'm sorry that I don't adhere to the stereotypical image board definition. To me the idea that real furries have to be into the sexual aspects of the fandom seems like a no true Scotsman fallacy. I prefer to use Wikifur as a reference for the definition.
See: https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Furry
Also notice that it says "[a] furry may be interested in any or all of them, to any degree."

>I don't get why people are so against furry stuff
The reason is that there are plenty of furry boards, but only one otter board.
We want to keep /otter/ as an otter board, not yet another furry board.

While I do consider myself a furry, I'm actually not the OP of the furry threads. I've been here since March and mostly posted otter photographs and other otter related things.
I do agree that we should keep this an otter board but I thought a furry otter thread every once in a while couldn't hurt, just like we have an otter anime thread, which I also contributed to. Nobody seemed to complain about that.

It is impossible for a person to dress up and resemble an otter; otter combines inward and outward qualities that are impossible to replicate for a human. You may appear as an otter, but you will never have the essence of otter within you.

A furry anything will always hurt because it gives furrys the impression that they are wanted or needed here. Is it that hard for people to enjoy otters as otters and their otter antics?

Who is the arbiter of who or what is wanted or needed here? I like otters in all their forms: realistic, furry, kemono and even kemonomimi. If you give a human otter features, he or she immediately becomes more awesome than just a plain human, and if you create an anthro otter character, many people can relate to them more than just a regular otter character.

The rules and nothing but the rules. Otter love can certainly be expressed in many ways and /otter/ should not exclude any of them, except of course immoral ones such as zoophilia.
What is meant by /otter/ not being a furry board is that it isn't exclusively one. Whatever content isn't against the rules should be allowed on /otter/. I wouldn't like it if we started enforcing unwritten rules, that stuff can ruin a board.

>many people can relate to them more than just a regular otter character
But part of the appeal of otters is that they are unlike us humans. Yes, mixing up a human with an otter makes the human better, but it also makes the otter worse.
>>1038
Furry stuff should be allowed but there should always be a preference of discussion relating to otter: the animal over otter-related artwork and such. If we ended up with a catalog full of furry otter threads, which are technically not against the rules, then we would have a problem. Maybe ask yourself before posting something, "could I post this on /fur/ or some other board instead?" If the answer is yes, then it's probably not really /otter/ material.
