Either copy a loop you like or create your own. It's mostly just about finding a good balance between progress/reward for the player and not making it to grindy/repetitive with the amount of content you can add.

There are a lot examples around but basic ones usually boil down to a mix of doing things to earn money, resources or level up which will unlock new things for some progress and goal.

At it's core you need a goal, if the goal is to grind to get better at grinding there's a good chance you're gonna lose people. The goal of reaching an ending or unlocking more content (stuff to do) has worked for years.

Look at the final fantasy series and you can pretty much tell what the goal is, and the goal does change as you move towards them, but the goals are clearly defined.

The goals are fairly well defined and you know overall what you need to be doing. Princess Trainer had the defined goal of making Jasmine into a slut for Jafar and as a consequence you unlocked other content. Strive for power's goal is to become more powerful and wealthy which leads you down the quest line.
