So I’ve got a couple questions, since I’m not technically literate hardly, this comes off as quite problematic but anyways, when I tried updating an app on the google play store, it wouldn’t update and it was taking too slow. Another problem is that when I restarted my phone, it looked like it was going through the same process as when I bought it (ie all the logos and stuff) and my notifications were cleared and instead I found new ones that said that somebody attempted to log in to my email through dropbox and it was coming from an unknown ip and a couple mp4s were downloading on Chrome, so I cancelled them. Also, this new icon appeared that looked like either a chess symbol or a keyhole and a wrench icon next to it. Another thing is that I’m starting to receive notifications from reddit when I didn’t before and earlier when I tried to watch a video with my earphones on, as I tried to turn the volume up, it would just use my ringtone instead of video audio and it was almost like my earphones weren’t connected. Any help?

Also I scanned it with AVG and it found 1 risk on my phone, so I went to settings and turned on the antivirus and scanned again and it detected no risks.

And also, not only that, but the photos I tried to download from Dropbox only just now appeared in my photos after I did this. Something fucky is going on.

Also, my phone started to get REALLY slow, so I decided to factory reset it. As for more details, after factory resetting it, when I went to post on 4chan, I accidentally tapped the name option and saw a name I never put there (Kayla) and earlier received a suspicious personal email saying "I need proof you are real before I send a pic what is two plus two?" And it wasn't marked as spam for some reason. Any help from any tech experts?

Also, can't post at cuckchan right now because they're experiencing some kind of outage.

I've been working solely with Nim for a while now and it's the first language I've found that doesn't completely make me want to neck myself out of the pain. It has some flaws of course, such as the stdlib being somewhat unoptimized for the sake of newfags (strutils is a big one, since it tries to mimic how things work in Python with function-chaining), and the Python-style messiness that larger modules become. For the latter, one can exploit the alternative C-style includes to break up the module a bit, or mess with templates to effectively neutralize large amounts of code duplication.

The other massive fucking flaw I'd say Nim has is that it's third-party lib support is trash. Most of it is half-broken abandonware with the devs vanished from this Earth. They really need to go through and prune Nimble's database of them. Thankfully, this is fairly trivial to solve if a community can really start up, and making wrappers for C/C++ libs is fairly easy if they aren't 99% header macro hell. Of course it helps if you also know C but there are tools that can help automate wrapper generation that just require you to go through and put in the last 10% of work, such as ensuring proper pragmas and adding helper functions to make them easier to use and implementing replacements for any macro shit.

My last two issues are firstly that Nimble sucks as a build tool, and you should either use Nake or straight nimscript in config.nims if you are a man. Hell plain Make might even be better since all you need to hand the compiler is your main and perhaps make a rule for unittests. The second is that the documentation generator kind of sucks ass. You can emit json instead and I was toying with trying to do up my own docgen but it's extremely low on my priorities so it keeps getting put up. Props to them for adding a dark mode toggle even if it is half-assed and doesn't seem to work for their also half-assed search system that likes to break periodically.

I realize these might seem like glaring issues, but I am autistically demanding when it comes to languages, and so far Nim has passed with flying colors even if I'm a filthy hard-tab indenter who had Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

audio latency is only relevant to synthesizers and (less so) games.

audio latency is irrelevant for video playback as no matter the buffer size it will be synchronized.

Ideal latency for synths is <8ms, and for games is 1/60s, both of which are easily accomplished with alsa on old PCs.

alsa has issues, but unless you write kernel drivers you probably can't give a meaningful critique.

Anybody that will go through the effort to patch linux with OSS4 has serious mental health problems.

>b-b-but it has superior mixing quality, I can hear ALSA causing distortion on my HiFi tube amp when I turn the gain all the way up and the pcm volume down -60db. ALSA uses SOFTWARE MIXING :(

Hello /g/, hope you are doing well. i know you're not personal tech support

Since i've been in quarentine for a couple of weeks, i started organizing all the files i had in cd's and external devices from a long time.

I found really good stuff i forgot i had, and i want to keep. Some of them are in 7z files, and i can't find the passwords, i remember copy pasting from the website directly and then after a while i deleted the files from my computer and forgot to save the passwords.

I tried cracker software using brute force, but it can take months since some of the passwords might be complicated.

Do you know any way i can get the files without the password?

Thank you!

Did someone else make the passwords or you? If you, you could create custom cracking sets based on how you may have made it to solve the password if it isn't random characters.

Otherwise, you can try and find where you downloaded it from, archive.org if necessary, to find the password.

A friend of mine who has a bachelor in computer science, who is also fluent in C/C++ and Basic has been pushing me to learn python has given me a lot of advice to learn python as my first language.

Most people start with a beginner's tutorial, then get disinterested and drop it because their materials are stale, and because there is no obvious official "path" for them to go.

>the reason i chose python is because really its just an all around basic lang built around basic syntax.

This is why my friend recommended that I learn python as a first language too.

There are online tutorials that have better teachers than university classrooms, without all the soul-crushing busywork that going to a college or university would entail to become a programmer. They tend to be more up to date on the information that they are teaching you as well.

The most important thing that my friend stressed, was to aim for something specific that you want to accomplish in the short term, like maybe a simple game program. After a basic understanding of the language, everything else you will learn on your own if you aim for realistic goals that aren't entirely out of your reach.

I spent a few hours looking for a decent video course online and this is what I have settled on using.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfscVS0vtbw

After finishing the beginner's course, there's a lot of other more specific tutorials that will teach you what you need along the way from the same channel.

There are a lot of paths for you to pick from after you finish the basic beginner's course on this channel. I made a point to pick a channel that had native English speaking teachers out of personal preference. The majority of tutorials and courses were taught by IndianPost too long. Are you a troll? Just add hindi and you're a literal meme.

Now to answer your question, any book that goes from scratch and doesn't expect you to know things you don't is good enough for you. You don't "fully learn the lang", that's just syntax, what's far more important is to learn how you can build programs that do things you thought were hopeless to even try.

That and you'll need to be curious.

I often hear many people say that free VPN is evil. Why?

Because it's not safe. How do you think the owners of free VPN services earn money? Do you think they do all this for free? Nothing like that. Very often they sell information, your address, phone number, and so on. And don't be surprised if your social media account is stolen. All your information goes through them, so they can do whatever they want with it. Therefore, if you need a VPN, then immediately buy a subscription to a paid VPN. I use PandaVPN https://top-vpn.hk/

VPNs are not secure, it doesn't matter if you pay for it, get it for free, own it, piss on it, etc. do not buy jimmu's garbage VPN or whatever the fuck that thing is. people using VPNs for torrents are basically just temporarily fooling some RIAA/MPAA bot that sits there collecting IP addresses of seeders and downloaders, but the NSA and other organizations know about it and most importantly the VPN probably has logs of it (inb4 "lol i totally don't keep logs bro! just trust me!"). better off not using torrents or using I2P torrents only, or move to place where they do not give a shit about copyright and ISP simply does not respond to dumb "give me money" letters.

some people use someone elses server for like actual work, that sort of thing, you know like software projects or hosting a website or something. thats what its mostly actually for.

take a look at how anonymity networks work, its like five minutes of reading for the tl dr to get an idea of how Tor works at least. the rest basically suck and are unusable buggy unfinished insecure bullshit (also known as a research project), except I2P is kinda useful (but not for web browsing) since its been around for a while and the software is a little more stable than some of the other Tor alternatives.

So what makes Linux unique and better than windows? I installed Ubuntu and it's total cringe, doesn't support games and had to use wineHQ to run LoL and CoD, nevertheless the games are really slow and really low FPS, even the root user is disabled by default in Ubuntu

the only good use of Linux is pen testing and hacking IMO, using Kali of course.

how tf is it 'total cringe'??? It's meant for casual users who are used to easier-to-use systems like MacOS, it's not for computer elitists and hobbyists and shit. Most of the linux userbase are programmers, developers, pentesters and all around very knowledgeable about that kind of shit, so a distro that caters to casual users gets shit on constantly by the rest of the community, which is fucking stupid. If you don't like it, don't use it.

Otherwise, I agree with >>13066 on the rest of the points except the one about ubuntu.

I am not a programmer, not a developer, not a pentester, and still I don't use Ubuntu. Not everyone that doesn't run Ubuntu is a hacker, just people with more than a double-digit IQ. You are taking Linux users (or just Unix-like users in general) in too much of a high stem. Most of us are just semi-technical people that obtained above-average expertise on computers with practice.

I tried the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS beta and it looks amazing.

>doesn't support games

*game studios only support the most used OS because all they care about is selling their games to enough people, and normies don't even know what an OS is, so they just use whatever is installed on their computer, which is usually Windows.

That doesn't mean that Windows is actually better.

What? You log into your regular user account and only run things with sudo if you need to, that's how it should work.

Do you run everything as admin on Windows? Are you retarded?

Try Manjaro or Arch. They're both great for gaming. Manjaro is plug and play but has some flaws, while Arch takes a bit of setting up and then it's fantastic.

What do you think about the NSA or CIA spying on based Anon's? I find it far worse that there are Ad Services blatantly selling our personal information on some Amazon Webservices background service. No wonder whenever I go on eBay it always suggests me hunting knifes, fishing gear, or rifle scopes.

DuckDuckGo sounds like a good alternative, but it comes off to me like some kind of search engine equivalent of Aldi's. It still makes you fat but they say they're giving you some kind of feature like cheaper food or "less data collecting".

The reason it's considered bad is because it's owned by an ad company. Who owns it here is important because if you want a program that doesn't spy on you, the least trustworthy owners are governments and ad companies. Startpage got bought out by an ad company, that's enough for me and many others to not use it.
