Nunes has just revealed that one of the criminal referrals he sent focuses on “whether or not intelligence was manipulated for political purposes.” Specifically, Nunes is referring to the 158-page “bipartisan” report the intelligence community put together on alleged Russian election interference in 2017. Nunes refers to the report as “Obama’s dossier” and told Fox Business’ Lou Dobbs that it was “suspect’ the U.S. intelligence community put it together in a matter of several weeks, at the behest of former President Barack Obama.”

The 2017 intelligence community report declared its “moderate’ to ‘high’ confidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin sought to boost then-candidate Donald Trump’s 2016 election chances” reports The Washington Examiner. Representative Nunes not only says all the documents should never have been classified in the first place, hiding “critical information” from the public, but he also plans to send more criminal referrals to the Justice Department.

Nunes says Republicans are eager to fully investigate because Democrats “weaponized” the Mueller report and Steele Dossier. Lou Dobbs asked Nunes if he believes anything will ever come from the criminal referrals, to which Nunes responded, “well that is the million-dollar question” but that he wants the audience to know “house Republicans have not stopped this investigation, so no matter what Pelosi…they can put out phony reports, do phony impeachments, our investigation continues.”

Nunes added they have been looking at the “three dossiers” the Steele dossier, Obama’s dossier, and the Mueller report, as well as plans to interview three Russian Americans and are looking at making additional criminal referrals. “We also need an investigation about why were all these things redacted so long by the Department of Justice and the FBI?” questioned Nunes. “Why did we just find out in the last few weeks what was hidden behind the Horowitz reports in the footnotes?… What ticks me off is there was no reason for these to be redacted and I want answers.” Nunes concluded, “We still need more declassified. There are too many things hiding from the American public.”

Mr. Trump on Wednesday said he has authorized the U.S. Navy to “shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass” U.S. ships. His tweet came one week after a handful of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps boats made several threatening approaches to U.S. warships conducting joint operations with Army attack helicopters in international waters.

“I have ordered our naval forces to destroy any American terrorist force in the Persian Gulf that threatens security of Iran’s military or non-military ships,” Major General Hossein Salami told state-television."

Iran separately summoned the Swiss ambassador, who looks out for America's interests in the country, to complain about Trump's threat coming amid months of escalating attacks between the two countries.

While the coronavirus pandemic temporarily paused those tensions, Iran has since begun pushing back against the Trump administration's maximum pressure policy both militarily and diplomatically. The Guard also launched Iran's first military satellite Wednesday, unveiling a previously secret space program.

Speaking to state television Thursday, Guard Gen. Hossein Salami warned his forces "will answer any action by a decisive, effective and quick counteraction.”"

United States intelligence officials reportedly believe Chinese agents used social media and text messages in March to help fan the flames surrounding the coronavirus panic, the New York Times reported. The New York Times cited six U.S. intelligence officials from different agencies on Wednesday who claimed agents from the Chinese government used social media messages and texts to American citizens as a means to spread disinformation, including that the Trump administration was planning to deploy troops to prevent riots and looters, as well as impose strict curfews. “They will announce this as soon as they have troops in place to help prevent looters and rioters,” one of the messages read, which cited a source in the Department of Homeland Security. “He said he got the call last night and was told to pack and be prepared for the call today with his dispatch orders.”

China denied involvement in spreading the information, saying, “The relevant statements are complete nonsense and not worth refuting.” “We urge the U.S. to stop political manipulation, get its own house in order and focus more on fighting the epidemic and boosting the economy,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said at a news conference last week. Two of the U.S. officials who spoke with the New York Times said they don’t believe China created the messages but rather “amplified” those already in circulation. The messages then grabbed enough attention from unsuspecting citizens and were spread on their own, especially on Facebook. The officials, who included both civil servants and political appointees, claimed the Chinese operatives were using Russian techniques to create fake social media accounts targeted at U.S. citizens who would believe and then spread the disinformation. As COVID-19 continues to create the perception of global chaos we’re all living in the 1989 Billy Joel hit song “We Didn’t Start the Fire” — the reality is tensions with traditional American foes have always been smoldering.

As COVID-19 has impacted U.S. readiness and even sidelined the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt, there’s a brewing perception that America’s adversaries Russia, China and Iran are taking advantage of the chaos to prod American military weakness as the U.S. stumbles during COVID-19.

But a former U.S. defense official and other analysts say recent aggression by America’s adversaries is nothing new and fit a pattern of behavior established over the years. There is, however, fear the virus could cause miscalculation leading to a broader conflict.

“It’s just a continuation of kind of what’s been going on for some time,” said Mike Jones, who served as U.S. Central Command chief of staff in 2011 under then-commander James Mattis. “I don’t think this is brand new.”

On April 19 there was an “unprofessional” and “unsafe” intercept of a U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon over the Mediterranean Sea, the Navy announced. It was the second intercept of a P-8 over the same waters in less than a week — though the Navy deemed the first incident as safe and professional."

NBC News executives are again on their heels as new questions arise about how the network handled sexual misconduct allegations against Matt Lauer – but one puzzling question is how Jeff Zucker, Lauer’s boss for many years and the current CNN president, has avoided similar criticisms.

Embattled NBC News Chairman Andy Lack and his top deputy, Noah Oppenheim are reportedly “quivering in their suits,” while Zucker has denied any knowledge of Lauer’s transgressions and still sits atop the liberal CNN.

Zucker, who began his career at the Peacock Network, rose from NBC researcher all the way to president and CEO of NBC Universal. Along the way, he was the executive producer of “Today” when Lauer was hired in 1994.

By 2001, Zucker was president of NBC Entertainment. In this role, he resumed oversight of Lauer – then NBC’s biggest star – and was frequently in touch with him about important matters related to “Today.”

A former NBC News employee with knowledge of Zucker’s relationship with Lauer feels the two shared a unique bond.

“They are very close friends. Jeff even did a Friars Club roast of Matt where he cracked jokes about Matt’s marital problems,” the former NBC News employee told Fox News. “At NBC, [Zucker] was the one person who could tell Matt to shut up.”

At the 2008 roast, Zucker made several lewd remarks about Lauer.

“It’s just good to see Matt up here and not under my desk,” Zucker said from the podium, according to a media executive who attended. “I don’t want to say Matt is a germophobe, but he’s the only guy I know who uses Purell both before and after he masturbates.”

When Lauer was abruptly fired by NBC for sexual misconduct nine years later, in 2017, Zucker said at Business Insider’s Ignition conference that the news was ‘incredibly disturbing” and “heartbreaking.”

"I've known Matt for 25 years and, I didn't know this Matt,” Zucker claimed at the time. “There was never a complaint about Matt. … There was never a suggestion of that kind of deviant or predatory behavior. There was never even a whisper of it.”

At the time, former CNN Chief White House Correspondent and USC Annenberg journalism professor Jessica Yellin said Zucker’s comments missed the point.

“This speaks to a problem with the culture and leadership of the workplace,” Yellin wrote in a scathing Twitter thread. “Creating a workplace in which women feel they can't report harassment isn't exonerating.”

Zucker’s comments at the conference mirrored the subsequent findings of a controversial internal review that NBC News launched to determine who knew about Lauer’s alleged misconduct. Lack insisted on keeping the investigation in-house, despite calls for an outside firm to take over. NBC General Counsel Kim Harris eventually declared that her colleagues were completely oblivious to Lauer’s supposed behavior.

NBC declared that the investigation “found no evidence indicating that any NBC News or ‘Today’ show leadership” received any complaints about Lauer’s misconduct prior to the November 2017 complaint that resulted in his ousting. But once Lauer was fired, complaints began to surface and a 2017 New York Times report about a Lauer incident that allegedly happened during Zucker’s time at NBC was particularly shocking.

“One complaint came from a former employee who said Mr. Lauer had summoned her to his office in 2001, locked the door and sexually assaulted her,” The New York Times reported. “She told The Times that she passed out and had to be taken to a nurse.”

Lauer reportedly isn’t working for CNN anytime soon, but Zucker’s network gave his old pal a pass on prime-time coverage of the disgraced anchor’s latest scandal.

Ronan Farrow’s upcoming “Catch and Kill” contains a disputed claim that Lauer raped an NBC colleague during the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Japan. While NBC found the bombshell claim important enough to cover on its own “Nightly News” and “Today,” Zucker’s CNN completely ignored the story during prime time.

“Anderson Cooper 360,” “Cuomo Prime Time,” “CNN Tonight” and “White House in Crisis” failed to mention Lauer on Wednesday, according to a review of transcripts by Fox News.

CNN did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps warned Thursday that U.S. ships would be destroyed if they were deemed a threat to Iranian security in the Persian Gulf.

Reuters reported that Major General Hossein Salami, the commander-in-chief of the Revolutionary Guards, threatened to sink any U.S. warship that Iranian forces believed could pose a security risk to an Iranian vessel, military or otherwise.

"The head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the country would "destroy" American warships that threaten its presence in the Gulf.

Maj. Gen. Hossein Salami told Iranian state television on Thursday that the fighting force would take out any U.S. warship it believes threatened the "security" of Iranian naval vessels, according to Reuters.

“I have ordered our naval forces to destroy any American terrorist force in the Persian Gulf that threatens security of Iran’s military or nonmilitary ships,” Salami said. “Security of the Persian Gulf is part of Iran’s strategic priorities."

“I am telling the Americans that we are absolutely determined and serious in defending our national security, our water borders, our shipping safety, and our security forces, and we will respond decisively to any sabotage,” he added. “Americans have experienced our power in the past and must learn from it.”"

"Iran will not hesitate to retaliate against the US Navy if it attacks any Iranian vessel, Tehran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander has warned, responding to a similar threat by Trump.

“I have ordered our naval forces to destroy any American naval force in the Persian Gulf that threatens the security of Iran’s military or non-military ships,” Major-General Hossein Salami said on Thursday, as cited by Tasnim News Agency.

Salami was responding to US President Donald Trump, who said that he had issued an order on Wednesday to “destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea.”

Last week, the US Navy accused Iranian warships of maneuvering in a “dangerous and provocative” manner near its own vessels in the Persian Gulf. Tehran rejected these claims, saying its patrol boats had to intercept and monitor the American ships because they were violating maritime protocols while navigating in the area."

John Durham expands investigative team amid coronavirus outbreak

U.S. Attorney John Durham has expanded his team as his review of the Trump-Russia investigators ramps up during the coronavirus pandemic, which has gripped the country and swept the globe. The top federal prosecutor for Connecticut selected additional team members for his investigative effort in recent weeks, adding agents from the FBI, as well as the chief of the violent crimes and narcotics trafficking section for the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington, D.C., Anthony Scarpelli, according to sources cited by CNN. Durham, who has been running the operation out of Connecticut and D.C., drove down to Washington a few weeks ago to keep the investigation moving even as the COVID-19 virus hampered many law enforcement efforts nationwide. The CNN report said Durham requested witness information in March and April.

Attorney General William Barr said in an interview this week that Durham’s investigation into the origins of the Crossfire Hurricane operation and into the conduct of associated law enforcement officers and intelligence officials is proceeding full speed ahead, and the timing of a report or possible criminal charges will not be based upon the 2020 election calendar. But, he stressed, an announcement or possible indictments are not imminent. Scarpelli has spent the last two years leading the office in charge of the fight against murder and the drug trade in D.C. Before that, he was the deputy chief of that office, according to his LinkedIn profile. Scarpelli also spent a year as an assistant U.S. attorney in the U.S. Virgin Islands, 14 years as an assistant U.S. attorney in D.C., and eight years as an assistant prosecutor for Middlesex County in New Jersey. Little else is publicly known about the composition of Durham's team, although it is known he selected Sarah Karwan, who has been with the Connecticut federal office since 2007, to serve as the chief of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Criminal Division back in January.

Prior to nationwide coronavirus lockdown orders, CNN reported Durham had been spending multiple days each week inside a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility reviewing classified documents related to the federal government’s investigations into Russian interference and Trump’s campaign. The report said Durham is also taking a close look at the FBI’s deeply flawed Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act targeting onetime Trump campaign associate Carter Page. It is almost certain that one of the topics being reviewed by Durham’s team is intelligence reports on Russian disinformation efforts revealed in recently declassified footnotes from Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report on the FBI's Russia investigation. Newly public information from the watchdog report showed the bureau had been aware of warnings that Russian intelligence efforts may have compromised British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s dossier, which was relied upon to obtain FISA warrants to surveil Page. Horowitz’s lengthy December report criticized the Justice Department and the FBI for at least 17 “significant errors and omissions” related to the FISA warrants against Page in 2016 and 2017 and for the bureau's reliance on Steele’s unverified dossier. Steele put his research together at the behest of the opposition research firm Fusion GPS, which was funded by Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee through the Perkins Coie law firm.

CNN also cited half a dozen sources confirming that Durham is scrutinizing former CIA Director John Brennan and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, with a special focus on the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment of the Kremlin meddling in 2016’s presidential election.
