Security at the consulate has been increased. According to the police, unknown assailants opened fire at the consulate.

The attackers are still outside the consulate and an operation is still under way. All the lanes surrounding the consulate have been sealed. People have been barred from entering the area. The South SSP is leading the operation himself and says they are closer to controlling the situation.

They will clear the area first and then ascertain the details of the incident.

Schools nearby are locked down. One school has sealed its gates and told parents that no one will be allowed to enter or exit the premises. Update from police on scene @ Birmingham shooting

9:52 pm gunshots fired report

Extra officers already on duty. Two individuals both adults got into a confrontation and exchanged gunfire. One was hit (18yr old) he has been taken to hospital with serious injuries other individual was confronted by officers while trying to flee the scene was shot and killed.

A twelve year old girl was hit by stray bullet in the original confrontation and was taken to the near by children's hospital. She was alert and talking at last known condition.
