This video documents the complete history of QAnon, from its first anonymous post on 4chan in October 2017 through its documented role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the United States Capitol, and its active resurgence in 2025 and 2026 following Donald Trump's return to the presidency.

QAnon began on October 28, 2017, when an anonymous user signing as "Q" posted on the message board 4chan, claiming to hold Q-level security clearance — a real classification used by the United States Department of Energy. The movement grew to millions of followers across more than 25 countries, was formally designated a domestic terrorism threat by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2019, and was cited in federal criminal charging documents connected to the January 6, 2021 Capitol siege. This video also examines the neuroscience behind why conspiracy theories spread, using peer-reviewed EEG research and a meta-analysis of 170 studies covering more than 158,000 participants to explain how the human brain is vulnerable to conspiratorial thinking regardless of intelligence or education. By 2026, QAnon has reemerged across TikTok and other platforms using a documented tactic called hashtag hijacking, as described in a 2026 study from the Université de Montréal.

Q's core narrative — known as "The Storm" — described Donald Trump waging a secret war against a global elite cabal controlling the Democratic Party, Hollywood, and mainstream media.

Two independent computational linguistics studies, conducted by Swiss firm OrphAnalytics and researchers at the École Nationale des Chartes in Paris, identified Paul Furber and Ron Watkins as the most likely authors of the Q posts.

Ron Watkins, administrator of the 8chan platform where Q posted from 2018 onward, made a near-confession on camera during the HBO documentary series Q: Into the Storm in 2021.

EEG studies show that people prone to conspiratorial thinking display reduced beta oscillatory activity in the frontal cortex, the brain region associated with critical thinking and decision-making.

A meta-analysis of 170 studies covering 158,000 participants found the strongest predictors of conspiracy belief are unmet psychological needs, specifically the desires to feel safe, special, and part of an informed group.

The FBI documented at least 22 QAnon-related violent incidents between 2018 and early 2021, including the Hoover Dam bridge blockade by an armed man in a homemade armored vehicle.

Jacob Angeli-Chansley, known as the QAnon Shaman, became the defining visual symbol of the January 6, 2021 Capitol breach, and in 2026 publicly rejected Trump's $1.776 billion fund for January 6 defendants.

Following the Capitol attack, Twitter removed over 70,000 QAnon accounts and Facebook and Instagram removed more than 45,000, but the movement survived through its unfalsifiability design.

As of 2026, QAnon operates as a decentralized radicalization template, no longer dependent on Q posts, and is actively spreading on TikTok using hashtag hijacking strategies documented by academic researchers.

The Reddit community r/QAnonCasualties had more than 287,000 subscribers as of 2026, representing families and individuals affected by QAnon radicalization.

Peer-reviewed research shows that directly arguing facts with conspiracy believers increases resistance, while addressing the underlying emotional needs of safety and belonging is more effective in facilitating exit from the movement.
