SpaceX wants to launch next Starship this month (and catch it, too), Elon Musk says in 1st earnings call since historic IPO

SpaceX will make some history this month, if all goes according to plan.

The company aims to launch the 14th test flight of its Starship megarocket before August is out, Elon Musk said today (Aug. 4) during SpaceX's first-ever quarterly earnings call.

Starship will deploy viable payloads into orbit on Flight 14, something it has never done before — and there will be other unprecedented action as well.

"I'd say things look very good, and that's why we, assuming we receive regulatory approval to do so, will attempt to catch the Ship with the tower on the next flight, which is tentatively scheduled for the end of this month," Musk said during today's call.

"Ship" is the 171-foot-tall (52 meters) upper stage of Starship, which also features a giant first-stage booster called Super Heavy.

Both of these elements are designed to be fully and rapidly reusable — a breakthrough that, combined with Starship's immense power, will revolutionize spaceflight, according to SpaceX.

And "things look very good" is a reference to Starship Flight 13, which lifted off on July 24. Musk was talking specifically about Ship's performance on that suborbital jaunt, which ended with the upper stage's soft splashdown in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Western Australia.

Ship's heat shield survived the harrowing downward trip through Earth's atmosphere in great shape on Flight 13, according to SpaceX (as did the entire vehicle, which is still in one piece to this day).

And that gives SpaceX confidence to plan for a tower catch on Flight 14 — a crucial component of Starship's future reusability.

"I don't want to jinx it or anything, but I think I'd consider the heat shield problem solved at this point," Musk said.

Starship's two launch towers at its Starbase site in South Texas feature large "chopstick" arms, which stack Super Heavy and Ship atop the pad — and can also catch the vehicles when they come back to Earth at the end of their missions.

SpaceX has already executed a tower catch with Super Heavy on three Starship test flights, but it has not yet tried to do so with Ship. So Flight 14 could be momentous, provided SpaceX gets permission from regulators to make an attempt.

Russia strikes military-linked logistics hubs in Kiev – MOD

The attacks hit several facilities involved in handling dual-use and drone components, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said

Russia has carried out overnight strikes on transport and logistics facilities in Kiev and the surrounding region, hitting sites used to handle items and drone components meant for the Ukrainian army, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said.

In a statement on Wednesday, the ministry said that among the targets attacked by high-precision long-range weapons was the MLP-Chaika logistics center, which stored and distributed components for long- and medium-range drones.

Also hit was Nova Poshta’s innovation terminal and logistics center, described by the ministry as one of the “largest automated sorting complexes” handling dual-use goods, including drone parts, robotic systems, and electronic-warfare equipment.

The ministry said it also struck the Trans-Logistic transport hub producing drones of various types and storing military supplies for Ukrainian forces, along with the Epicentr logistics center, a large automated warehouse also processing and storing dual-use goods and drone components for the Ukrainian military.

In the wider Kiev region, the strikes hit the Brovary Terminal facility, the Raben Ukraine logistics hub, and another Nova Poshta sorting complex, all involved in supplying drone parts, including foreign-made ones.

In addition, the attacks hit three vessels off Odessa that were transporting military cargo, according to the statement.

Videos circulating on social media show multiple plumes of smoke rising over Kiev and its suburbs, while the authorities released photographs showing several warehouses reduced to rubble.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service claimed 14 people were killed and 27 wounded in the overnight attack.

The service said crews were working at seven sites across the region, with large fires breaking out at warehouses in the city of Brovary and the villages of Velikaya Dymerka, Kvitnevo, and Peremoga.

Ukraine’s air force said the barrage involved four Tsirkon/Oniks anti-ship missiles, 24 Iskander-M and S-400 ballistic missiles, and 115 strike and decoy drones.

It claimed to have shot down or suppressed 98 drones but did not report intercepting any of the missiles, which Ukraine has been able to tackle only by using high-grade Western-supplied interceptors.

Epicentr confirmed that one of its logistics centers was hit and that a missile also struck a ceramic production plant, with all of its kilns destroyed.

It added that it has halted production there and plans to temporarily shift output to two facilities abroad while preparing to launch another line in Ukraine.

It estimated that rebuilding the production line would take up to two years, with the total damage yet to be determined.

The barrage came two days after a Ukrainian drone attack on the Black Sea resort of Gelendzhik, southern Russia, killed at least eight people, including four children, and wounded dozens of others.

It also follows several weeks of deadly Ukrainian strikes on warehouses operated by Russian online retailer Wildberries, which Kiev claims is involved in handling dual-use items.

Moscow has denied Wildberries is involved in supporting the Russian military.

Ukrainian Drone Barrage Sets Wildberries Sortation Center in Tula Region Ablaze

Ukrainian drones struck a Wildberries sortation center in the Tula region, the online retailer and local officials said Wednesday morning, with at least one person injured in the attack.

Tula region Governor Dmitry Milyayev said more than 100 drones were intercepted in the skies above his region amid an overnight barrage. He said a fire broke out at the Wildberries facility and that emergency crews were responding to the site.

In a press release, Wildberries confirmed the attack on its sortation center in the Tula region. The company said its employees were evacuated from the facility and that shipments would be redirected to other locations.

Images shared on social media showed a large fire and column of smoke rising above what was said to be the Wildberries sortation center in the Tula region. NASA satellite imagery showed a plume of black smoke above the region.

Russia's Defense Ministry said it intercepted 475 Ukrainian drones across Russia and annexed Crimea between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Ukraine has attacked almost two dozen Wildberries logistics centers since mid-July, accusing the company of supplying the Russian military with drone parts and other equipment.

The strikes have wiped out a significant portion of the e-commerce giant's storage capacity and cost third-party merchants hundreds of billions of rubles, according to Forbes Russia.

Meanwhile, in Ukraine, Russian strikes near Kyiv killed at least 17 people and injured more than two dozen others, emergency officials said Wednesday. Warehouses and retail logistics centers were also targeted in the overnight attacks.

Explosions reported in Dubai industrial district

Conflicting accounts suggest either a Houthi strike or an industrial accident caused the blasts

Several explosions were reportedly heard overnight at the Jebel Ali Free Zone, a major industrial and logistics district in Dubai, the UAE.

Online witness accounts described as many as seven loud blasts over a period of roughly 20 minutes. Videos and photographs purporting to show smoke and fires in the area circulated on social media, alongside reports that ambulances had been dispatched to the scene.

Some media outlets, including Iranian sources, claimed the explosions were caused by an attack launched by the Yemen-based Houthi movement, which is allied with Tehran. Other reports suggested an industrial accident had caused the blasts.

Jebel Ali, located southwest of central Dubai and beside the industrial zone, is home to one of the Middle East’s largest container ports. Explosive Drone Found After Plane Collides With Unidentified Flying Object

A German airport suspended flights after a staff member discovered a drone equipped with an explosive device near the runway, before a cargo plane was rerouted after colliding with a second unidentified flying object early Wednesday, police said.

A bomb disposal robot was deployed at the Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany to examine the improvised explosive device before the detonator was removed, the Saxony Police said.

The cargo plane appeared to have minor damage after it was rerouted to Hannover Airport, police said, adding that there was no danger to the safety of passengers or airport staff and that no passenger flights were rerouted or suspended.

The investigation continues under the Central Office for Extremism Saxony, the Dresden Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Saxony State Criminal Police Office and the Police Terrorism and Extremism Prevention Center, as Saxony Police requested that any witnesses come forward.

“I have complete confidence in the work of the responsible investigative authorities and thank all those involved who brought the situation under control and helped ensure that flight operations could resume,” State Minister of Justice Prof. Constanze Geiert said in a Wednesday afternoon statement.

“Leipzig Airport is part of our critical infrastructure. Attacks on this infrastructure must be prosecuted with the full force and severity of the law enforcement authorities.”

Flights on one runway resumed at 1:55 a.m., an earlier statement said, while the latter statement said passenger air traffic was not affected.

Germany has been responding to unauthorized drone activity over the past few months after several incidents involving drones took place near airports, military sites and other sensitive infrastructure, CNN reported.

Police have also warned that Russian agents could be involved because the airport is often used to transport logistics from Germany and its NATO allies to Ukraine and serves as a base for Antonov Airlines, Ukraine’s largest cargo airline, the BBC reported.

The airport is also a cargo hub for Europe and is one of the few German airports with round-the-clock cargo operations, CNN reported.

In reality, though, these companies are attempting to launder their images and enlist the next generation to become cogs in the military-industrial complex.

All the while, these organizations’ products are being used across the world by the United States and Israel to commit war crimes – in Iran, Yemen, Palestine, and beyond – to target children.

Normalizing War to Kids

When many Americans think of Raytheon (now officially rebranded as RTX Corporation), they don’t envisage rockets and cruise missiles; they think of math. For decades, the second-largest arms manufacturer on the planet has bankrolled a wide range of organizations aimed at getting children excited about STEM subjects.

Since 2009, Raytheon has been the title sponsor of MATHCOUNTS, a non-profit organization that provides engaging math programs for middle school students in every U.S. state, as well as organizing math competitions to find the brightest children in America.

In 2005, Raytheon launched its MathMovesU program, aimed, in its own words, “to inspire middle school students to get excited about math and science.” In addition to the materials provided, it has also spent millions on scholarships, grants, and study awards to thousands of students, teachers, and volunteers.

And its MathAlive! traveling exhibit promises, in rather outdated branding, to take math “2theXtreme”. MathAlive! Has also traveled to several countries in West Asia, including Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia – all of them among the biggest purchasers of Raytheon weapons technology.

The company also enjoys a longtime partnership with the Girl Scouts of the United States of America (GSUSA). In 2017, for example, it launched the GSUSA’s first national computer science program and cyber challenge for middle and high school girls.“

The progress to diversify the STEM workforce needs to be accelerated… At a time when technology is transforming the way we live and work, we can – and should – show young women a clear path to taking an active role in this transformation,” said Thomas A. Kennedy, then-Raytheon CEO; “Working together, Raytheon and Girl Scouts will help girls build confidence to see themselves as the robotics engineers, data scientists and cybersecurity professionals who will create a better tomorrow.”

“We approached this in a very simple way,” Bell said in his victory speech. “We’re going to work for the people right here in St. Louis.”

Recognizing that the area “has not seen its best days,” with families struggling to buy groceries and fill up their gas tanks, Bell stressed the importance of “coming together” in his victory speech. He also reached out directly to his primary opponents, stressing the “need to start rallying around one another.”

Bush, in her concession speech, continued her attacks on her opponent.

“St. Louis, you deserve a representative that sees you, that hears you, that cares about every single one of you,” she said, blasting Bell for not attending certain candidate forums and accusing him of “running a whole campaign on smears.”

“For the next two years, this community will be represented by someone that didn’t deem you valuable enough,” Bush added.

Bell prevailed that year in a clash that was largely defined by a $9 million influx of AIPAC cash supporting him. The Washington, D.C.-based Jewish Democratic Council of America, which had mobilized networks of voters to make phone calls in support of Bell, was quick to congratulate the congressman following his victory.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that the Strait of Hormuz will only reopen once the United States returns to its commitments outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Iran's state-run news agency IRNA reported on Wednesday.

Preemptive pardons are making Washington look like a criminal syndicate

Nothing says confidence in clean government quite like giving someone a pardon before they’re even charged with a crime.

Think about what a preemptive pardon actually says.

“You are free for whatever you may have done in the past, and the federal government can’t prosecute you for it.”

That used to be an extraordinary constitutional power reserved for extraordinary moments.

Now it feels like it’s becoming standard operating procedure.

On his way out, President Biden issued preemptive pardons covering several family members, along with Anthony Fauci, Gen. Mark Milley, and members and staff of the January 6 committee, arguing they faced the risk of political retaliation.

Months later, President Trump issued preemptive pardons for dozens of people connected to efforts surrounding the 2020 election, including Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, John Eastman, Sidney Powell, and Jenna Ellis. Earlier, he had also granted broad clemency to more than 1,500 people charged or convicted in connection with January 6.

The legal authority isn’t really the story.

The Constitution gives presidents broad pardon powers, and the Supreme Court recognized long ago in Ex parte Garland that a pardon can apply after an act but before charges are filed.

The story is what this says about Washington.

Both parties now seem to be working from the same assumption.

When power changes hands, protect your own first.

One administration says it’s necessary because the next administration can’t be trusted.

The next administration makes the exact same argument.

Then the cycle gets bigger.

Reports have suggested discussions inside the White House about additional large pardon packages, including ideas tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary. President Trump has also publicly discussed the possibility of extending preemptive pardons to aides before leaving office. Meanwhile, Reuters has reported that much of the second-term clemency process has increasingly bypassed the traditional Justice Department review process in favor of a more direct White House approach.

That should make everyone uncomfortable, regardless of which party they support.

Because once preemptive pardons become routine, they stop looking like rare constitutional safeguards.

They start looking like political insurance policies.

‘Silent extermination’: Israel bombs medicine stores in Gaza, worsening the Strip’s dire healthcare crisis

An Israeli strike destroyed two major medicine warehouses in Deir al-Balah, the latest Israeli attack on Gaza's failing health system. Gaza’s Health Ministry says medicine shortages are now killing three cancer patients a day.

Before dawn on Sunday, August 2, the Israeli military struck a pharmaceutical warehouse adjacent to al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, in what Palestinian health officials described as the latest step in a systematic campaign to dismantle Gaza’s healthcare system.

The attack inflicted extensive damage beyond the targeted facility. Two of the hospital’s four medicine warehouses were completely destroyed, while the remaining two sustained severe structural damage, the Gaza Ministry of Health said in a statement. The blast also tore through dozens of tents sheltering displaced families who had sought refuge inside the hospital compound after losing their homes.

According to the Health Ministry, the strike also caused significant damage to a nearby outpatient clinic building and destroyed already critically low stocks of medications and medical supplies.

“The attack came on top of months of restrictions on the entry of medical aid and the continued prevention of thousands of patients from traveling abroad for treatment,” the statement added, accusing Israel’s strikes as “systematic and deliberate.”

Since the beginning of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, the healthcare system in the Strip has been battered by overlapping crises. Medical facilities have come under repeated attack, with hospitals and clinics damaged or destroyed across the Strip. Of the hospitals that once served Gaza’s population, only a small number remain operational and continue to receive patients.

Dr. Khalil al-Daqran, spokesperson for al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, said that Sunday’s strike was part of that broader assault on Gaza’s health sector. “The occupation seeks the complete collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system,” he said. “The missiles completely destroyed the warehouse, leaving behind a massive crater and placing large numbers of patients in grave danger.”

According to al-Daqran, the destroyed warehouses contained medicines for patients with chronic illnesses, including kidney disease. With those supplies now destroyed, he warned, many patients face an immediate threat to their lives.

He noted that medicines reaching Gaza’s hospitals are largely supplied through international organizations such as the World Health Organization, but that Israel “shows no regard for international law or international organizations,” citing the destruction of the warehouse as evidence.

For the last year, the Centre for Migration Control (“CMC”) has been locked in a battle at the Information Commissioner’s Office (“ICO”) – a non-department government body tasked with upholding public access to government data – with the Ministry of Justice.

In June 2025 the CMC requested via the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“FoI”) that the Ministry of Justice produce statistics on the total number of convictions between 2018 and 2024 ( broken down by nationality) for detailed offences within the following headline offence categories: “violence against the person,” “sexual offences,” “drug offences,” “criminal damage and arson,” “possession of weapons,” “theft offences” and “robbery.”

This information would have been the single biggest release of migrant crime statistics in British history and, for the first time, told us how many migrants are convicted every year of murder, rape, arson, the importation and supply of class A drugs, the sale of weapons, along with hundreds of other offences.

Unlike other European nations – including Denmark, Germany, and Sweden – the British government does not publish this information. This is despite the information being readily available on the Police National Computer.

The Ministry of Justice refused this FoI request and, on 10 July 2025, the CMC requested that the ICO make a ruling on whether it was appropriate for the data to be withheld.

On 22 June 2026, over 12 months after the initial FoI request, the ICO ruled unambiguously that the Ministry of Justicemust “disclose the requested information” to the CMC.

The Stock markets are now run by algorithms and machines and sentiment analysis models.

These Sentiment models do NOT read a sentence and decide whether it is true. They read who said it, then apply a source authority weight. A head of state carries the highest multiplier in the stack, and no analyst thread will ever match it.

So when the line is that the “Strait is open”, that talks are advancing, that normalization is close, the machine does not verify the claim.

It measures that the claim was made, by whom, and how fast it travelled.

Tens of millions of followers plus news channels pickup registers as breadth. Breadth gets read as confirmation. Crude, tanker rates, war risk premiums and defense names reprice inside seconds.

Verification lands hours later, sometimes days. By then the position is closed and the correction moves nothing.

Markets have always moved on information. What is new is that they now move on attribution, and the machinery, AI and sentiment analysis cannot tell the difference between a fact and a well sourced assertion.

Oil still cannot get through the strait of hormuz but the AI does not consider that, it considers that Trump (the actual President of the United States issued the statement and that statement gets ranked the highest, because all news channels and media channels start to report on it).

Kevin Knuth is a Professor of Physics at the University at Albany and the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Entropy.

He is a former NASA research scientist having worked at NASA Ames Research Center in the Intelligent Systems Division designing artificial intelligence algorithms for astrophysical data analysis.

In 2022, Dr. Knuth travelled to the west coast of the U.S. to study phenomena behind leaked NAVY UFO sightings. Since then, he's been at the forefront of scientific studies of UAP.

Kevin's current research interests include the foundations of physics, quantum information, autonomous robotics, the search for and characterization of extrasolar planets, and unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP).

He has published over 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has been invited to give over 100 presentations in 18 countries.
