Capital One bank has asked a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit from the Trump Organizationover the closure of hundreds of bank accounts back in 2021, arguing in new papers that the shutdowns were the product of a months long anti-money-laundering review — not retaliation for the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, as the Trump family businesses have claimed.

In a motion to dismiss the case filed Friday in a Florida federal court, Capital One's lawyers wrote that the bank's own filings and theTrump businesses' allegations "make clear that Capital One closed Plaintiffs' accounts for anti-money laundering ('AML') reasons."

The bank said the decisionfollowed "months of analysis and a careful review" by its financial-crimes team, which it said was staffed by employees with "decades of law enforcement experience."But the filings suggest the Trump Organization and affiliated entities were given no opportunity to address any money-laundering or compliance concerns before the accounts' closures.

It's unclear if subsequent banks for the Trump Organization have ever raised money laundering concerns, or what steps the organization took in response to Capital One's allegations. The Trump Organization didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

The fight is one of several lawsuits Trump-aligned entities have brought against major banks since Trump returned to the White House.

A yearslong dispute over hundreds of accounts

The case centers on roughly 385 accounts tied to the Trump Organization, Eric Trump and a collection of affiliated businesses — including a winery, a bottled-water company and a golf course developer — that banked with Capital One for more than a decade before the accounts were shut down in mid-2021.

In an amended complaint filed earlier in July, the Trump-affiliated companies insisted theclosures had nothing to do with financial crime or money-laundering, but everything to do with politics.

The Trump Organization alleges Capital One moved to distance itself from Donald Trump after the Capitol riot and that thebank's cited anti-money-laundering rationale was invented after the fact to cover for that decision.

Capital One has flatly denied those assertions, with its lawyers arguing in the new filing that the Trump's theory rests on "cherry-picked quotations unsupported by the full context" of the bank's own records, and that nothing in the complaint shows the anti-money-laundering explanation was a cover story.

The bank's lawyers alsonoted that it kept its reasoning for the closures confidential at the time: it "never publicized the termination decision nor its confidential internal process giving rise to the closure," and gave the Trump companies months — plus several extensions — to move their money elsewhere, which they did.

Large sections of the Trump-linked amended complaint from July remain blacked out under a court-approved sealing order, including an entire portion titled "January 6, 2021: The Political Trigger."

The bank says its contract gave it broad discretion

Beyond disputing the facts, Capital One has reiterated in the new court filing it had the right to close any account "at any time, for any or no reason and without notice" — language the Trump companies do not dispute.

The presiding judge, Roy Altman, had already dismissed an earlier version of the lawsuit in March on similar grounds, ruling that a bank's reason for closing an account under that kind of open-ended contract clause generally cannot be second-guessed in court.

Capital One has asked Altman to dismiss the new complaint permanently this time, without another chance to refile.

The bank is also pushing back against a new claim the plaintiffs added in July:that Capital One defrauded them by staying silent about its reasoning.

Capital One's attorneys say the bank had no obligation to explain itself in the first place, and separately argue that federal banking-secrecy law would have barred it from disclosing internal anti-money-laundering findings even if it wanted to.

A parallel fight over what stays sealed

That secrecy law is also at the center of a related fight over what the public gets to see. In a separate motion filed Friday, Capital One asked the court tokeep sealed a portion of one exhibit that it says contains information protected under the Bank Secrecy Act, along with employee names, customer account numbers and unrelated compensation details.

The Trump companies do not oppose sealing the account numbers or that one Secrecy Act-related passage,but are contesting several other redactions Capital One wants to keep in place.

A separate case againstJPMorgan Chase, filed in January over accounts closed in the same period,makes similar claims.

President Trump signed an executive order last August directing regulators to crack down on what he and other conservatives call politically motivated 'debanking.'

Capital One itself has tangled with Trump before: in 2019, during his first term,the president sued the bank alongside Deutsche Bank to block them both from turning over his financial records to a Democratic-led congressional inquiry.

Independent journalists Nick Sortor and Karlyn Borysenko were in serious danger on Saturday night after being confronted, threatened with death, and having their vehicle attacked with vomit by Black Lives Matter rioters in a self-declared “autonomous zone” that has taken over several blocks of downtown Madison, Wisconsin.

The zone, known as the “Corey Ruiz Autonomous Zone” or “CRAZ,” was formed in the days following the July 22 police shooting of Corey Ruiz, an armed serial felon who was killed while allegedly attacking an officer with a knife.

Protesters have built barricades of pallets, furniture, and spike strips, blocked streets, set up tents, and effectively seized control of the area around Williamson and Baldwin streets, using the playbook from Seattle’s 2020 CHOP/CHAZ.

Sortor, who was driving with Borysenko in the passenger seat, stopped near the encampment andstepped out of the vehicle in an attempt to make jokes and lighten the mood.

Instead, activists surrounded him, blocked him from returning to his car,swung a pole at him, sprayed vomit on him and his vehicle, damaged the left front quarter panel, and repeatedly threatened to kill him.

Video footage captured one individual warning,“hurry up and leave before your life ends out here” and saying “there’s a whole team of us.”

Borysenko, filming from the passenger seat with a hood over her head, captured the escalating confrontation.

She noted that the woman swinging the pole had previously appeared hostile toward her during an earlier visit to the zone and that the attackers did not appear to recognize either journalist, making the incident even more alarming because “this could happen to anyone.”

Both journalists praised the responding Madison police officers as professional and helpful.

Former Congresswoman Kay Granger passed away on Sunday after transitioning to an assisted living facility.

She was 83 years old.

Granger represented Texas’ 12th congressional district for 28 years and served on the House Appropriations Committee.

Kay Granger devoted her life to serving her Fort Worth, Texas community — as a teacher and businesswoman, on the Fort Worth Zoning Commission and City Council, as Mayor, and in Congress for nearly three decades, where she also served as Chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee.

Throughout her career, she broke barriers for women in public service. She was the first woman to serve as Mayor of Fort Worth, the first Republican woman elected to represent Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the first Republican woman to chair the House Appropriations Committee.

Kelly and I send our prayers to her family, loved ones, and the Fort Worth community as we remember her extraordinary life of service and lasting legacy.

She was a dear friend who will be greatly missed.

Recall that in July 2024, Granger suddenly disappeared from the public eye after she cast her final vote against an amendment to reduce the salary of Deputy Assistant Administrator for Pesticide Programs to $1.

A curious reporter at the local Dallas Express newspaper did some digging on Granger’s whereabouts and has finally gave her constituents some answers.

The reporter received a tip-off from a local resident that Granger was residing at an assisted living facility specializing in memory care.

In 2023, Granger announced her retirement from Congress.

Fifty-six men risked their lives to sign the Declaration of Independence – not on July 4 but on August 2, 1776.

The only two men to sign the Declaration on July 4 were Continental Congress President John Hancock and Secretary Charles Thomson.

Virginia’s Richard Henry Lee proposed independence in the Lee Resolution on June 11. There was no consensus, the vote got pushed back several weeks and the first vote on July 1 failed. South Carolina and Pennsylvania voted no. New York abstained and Delaware was deadlocked. Only 9 colonies voted yes.

By July 2, 12 of the 13 colonies voted yes with New York abstaining. This was made possible after several twists of providence. One involved two Pennsylvania delegates who opposed independence skipping the vote. This enabled three who supported independence to outvote the remaining two naysayers. Another was the Paul Revere of Delaware, sickly Caesar Rodney. After learning that Delaware was deadlocked, he rode 80 miles overnight in a storm to cast the tiebreaking vote.

After two days of debate and more than 80 edits, the Declaration was adopted on July 4. Philadelphia printer John Dunlap printed 200 copies of “a Declaration,” distributed colony wide. It wasn’t unanimous because New York wouldn’t approve it until July 9.

Many signers were poor. Many others were wealthy, including those who funded the war effort and died penniless or suffered in debtor’s prison like Pennsylvania’s James Wilson and Robert Morris.

Many signers suffered great personal tragedy. New York’s Francis Lewis’ wife was imprisoned. New Jersey’s Abraham Clark’s sons were imprisoned, suffered and killed. Georgia’s George Walton and New Jersey’s Richard Stockton were also imprisoned.

New Jersey’s John Witherspoon, the only ordained minister who signed the Declaration after rallying for independence from the pulpit, lost his son in the Battle of Germantown.

Eight of the signers weren’t born in the colonies. Pennsylvania’s Morris and Georgia’s Button Gwinnett were born in England. New York’s Francis Lewis was born in Wales. Pennsylvania’s James Smith and George Taylor and New Hampshire’s Matthew Thorton were born in Ireland. Pennsylvania’s James Wilson and New Jersey’s John Witherspoon were born in Scotland.

None of North Carolina’s signers were born in North Carolina and they all died before age 50. Two of the youngest signers, 26, were from South Carolina. The oldest was Ben Franklin, 70. The only Roman Catholic signer was Charles Carroll of Maryland.

The Declaration was printed in every newspaper in the colonies, first by Franklin’s paper in Philadelphia on July 6. It was printed in German on July 9 in Philadelphia for a large German immigrant population. It was printed in Charlestown, South Carolina, in August 1776.

Mary Katherine Goddard of Baltimore was the first woman publisher to print it. She was also the first to print that the declaration was “unanimous” and include the signers’ names.

Of the 200 Dunlap broadsides printed, only 20 are preserved by U.S. institutions. Two are held by British institutions, including one confiscated from a Jewish merchant, Jonas Phillips. Phillips tried to get the word out, joyfully writing about independence in Yiddish.

The Declaration lists 27 grievances against the British king, including taxation without representation, dissolving state legislatures, controlling judges, eliminating jury trials and blocking trade. The most egregious include the king “waging war against us … [who] plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.”

After their petitions went unanswered, the signers declared a united independence “with a firm reliance on Divine Providence” pledging their lives, fortunes and sacred honor.

The suspect, 26-year-old Richard Anthony Ramos Jr. of Stockton, California,was arrested on July 21with several ballots in his car.

Notably, the Primary elections in Arizona were also held on July 21.

The scheme reportedly involved using a cardboard box into the collection bin to trap outgoing mail, which he would then fish out.

It is unclear whether his target was the mail-in ballots and what he intended to do with them.

Investigators reportedly believe that Ramos had been stealing the mail since May 2026.

Postal Inspectors began surveilling the drop box location on July 14 after receiving multiple reports of boxes being found in late June and early July, according to ABC 15.

Ramos was finally busted on July 21 when inspectorswatched him pull a trap containing outgoing mail out of the mailbox.

A spokesperson for the Maricopa County Recorder’s office said, “The postal inspectors contacted us regarding the incident and provided us with the unvoted yellow carrier envelopes that were in the mix they seized.”

They added, “The Recorder’s Office documented receipt from the postal inspector who brought themdirectly to MCTEC. The envelopes were not voted ballots but were instead outbound ballot packets. The particular voters were promptly reissued outbound ballot packets.”

He is just laying the groundwork and adding new targets to the list. After Iran illegal attack, Naftali mentioned Egypt and Turkey as the next big threat to Israel and now he added Qatar to the list.
