Smugglers in small boats turn to Belgium's beaches
Smugglers have launched migrant small boats from beaches in Belgium away from the traditional sites around Calais and Dunkirk.
Belgian authorities say gangs are using so‑called "taxi boats" that move along the coast to pick up migrants in the water before heading towards France.
Westkust Police told the BBC there were no crossings in their zone last year and at least five this year, adding that teams are now conducting targeted checks.
The UK government has provided £1.3m to Belgian law enforcement to deter smuggling attempts.
Belgian police said in recent weeks there has been small boat activity off coastal towns including De Panne, Koksijde and Nieuwpoort.
On Wednesday night, 15 migrants were discovered near Nieuwpoort marina, police said.
A Westkust Police spokesperson said: "They were carrying a rubber inflatable boat, an outdoor motor, and jerry cans of gasoline. Of the fifteen people, only four were equipped with life jackets.
"The findings indicate that the group of men intended to cross to the United Kingdom."

Fresh controversy has erupted within the UFO disclosure movement after researcher UAP Gerb made a series of allegations against former Pentagon official Luis Elizondo, claiming he may have previously helped protect classified UFO programmes before emerging as one of the public faces of disclosure.
The claims, made during an interview with journalist Ross Coulthart, have not been independently verified and remain allegations. Elizondo has strongly rejected the accusations, arguing they are based on false information rather than evidence.
UAP Gerb Claims a Familiar Pattern Is Returning

He also questioned whether Elizondo had been as open about crash retrieval and reverse engineering programmes as many supporters believe.

Luis Elizondo Pushes Back Against the Claims
Elizondo responded publicly soon after the interview, rejecting the allegations and criticising both Gerb and Ross Coulthart for giving airtime to what he described as inaccurate information.
He claimed he had previously offered Gerb his personal phone number so questions could be discussed directly rather than through public speculation. According to Elizondo, that opportunity was never used.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
A small but legally significant segment of the American telecommunications market consists of privately owned carriers that operate and maintain their own physical infrastructure — including switching equipment, fiber runs, tower assets, and routing hardware. While these providers collectively represent a minority share of total subscribers, their independent control over physical network infrastructure creates structural conditions that, absent adequate federal oversight, enable systematic and illegal surveillance of private citizens without judicial authorization, law enforcement nexus, or public accountability.

CALEA requires that carriers build in lawful intercept capability; that same capability, unmonitored, enables unlawful intercept.
Call Detail Records and Metadata Aggregation. Even without content inspection, metadata — who called whom, when, for how long, from what location — is extraordinarily revealing. The Supreme Court’s Carpenter v. United States (2018) recognized that systematic location data aggregation constitutes a Fourth Amendment search requiring a warrant. Independent providers can generate this data internally, without a third-party subpoena trigger, and retain it indefinitely without oversight.

Despite the similarities, researchers continue to disagree about what these reports actually represent.
Conventional explanations include sleep paralysis, hypnagogic hallucinations, false memories and the effects of hypnotic regression. These remain the most widely accepted interpretations within mainstream science.

'That Is What I Want to Know' tracks an unidentified flying object that appeared at Gimhae Airport.
In the SBS program 'That Is What I Want to Know,' airing at 11:10 p.m. on the 1st, a mysterious flight diversion incident at Gimhae Airport will be covered.
On May 19, an incident occurred aboard a flight scheduled to arrive at Busan Gimhae Airport around 9:30 p.m., departing from Nagoya, Japan.
Announcements were made that all takeoffs and landings at Gimhae Airport were completely prohibited and the runway was closed, making landing impossible; suddenly, the plane diverted to Incheon Airport.
Without knowing the exact reason for the sudden diversion, about 150 passengers arrived in Busan around 6 a.m. the next day by bus from Incheon Airport.
They reached their destination, which should have taken only an hour and a half from Nagoya, but arrived 10 hours later. What happened at Gimhae Airport that evening?
Witness Kim said, "Around 9 p.m., I saw lights flickering in the sky, with three of them appearing separately in a line."
A whistleblower who served in a military unit within the airport reported seeing strange lights passing above the living quarters.
The lights were not just one but three, moving in formation at a height equivalent to about 10 stories of an apartment building; they were unidentified flying objects emitting green light.
Gimhae Airport is a no-fly zone for aviation security and also hosts the Air Force, making it even more sensitive regarding security.
The Air Force, which controls the control tower, conducted a joint search with the police but failed to confirm any unidentified flying object.
The police also treated the incident as a misunderstanding where the lights in the night sky were mistaken for an aircraft and closed the case.
Another witness of the flying object, Choi, said, "I heard that when they broadcasted 'Actual Situation,' even officers were dispatched, and I believe an anti-terror specialist team known as a special mission squad was also deployed."
He claimed that at the time, he heard internal military radio communications, asserting that the command unit definitely confirmed the flying object.
The aircraft moved so mysteriously that it was difficult for trained Air Force personnel to chase it; it appeared and disappeared suddenly over two hours.
It was clearly a real entity, as it was captured by the military's internal systems.
Last May, President Trump released videos of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) that the United States has collected from around the world for over 80 years.
Amid growing interest in unidentified flying objects, was what was spotted at Gimhae Airport merely a misinterpretation of lights or civilian drones? Or could it be an unknown flying object, a UAP, approaching us?

MIAMI – A Broward teacher has been arraigned and ordered detained pending trial on charges related to the sexual exploitation of children as young as five years old.
According to court records, Evan Michael Sands, 26, of Tamarac, used online communications to engage in conversations with minors to solicit child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in exchange for in-game currency associated with a popular children’s video game. Sands also allegedly produced and transmitted videos of himself engaging in sexually explicit conduct. A search warrant revealed that Sands distributed CSAM to others using an online communication platform.
Sands is charged with enticement of a minor to engage in illicit sexual activity, as well as possession and distribution of child pornography. If convicted, Sands faces a maximum penalty of life in prison for enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity and 20 years for possession and distribution of child pornography.
U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida, Acting Special Agent in Charge Jose R. Figueroa of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Miami, and Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony of the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) made the announcement.
HSI Fort Lauderdale and BSO are investigating the case.

Hamas has insisted that no disarmament will take place while Israeli forces remain in Gaza. In a statement, the group said any discussion of the handover of heavy weaponswas conditional on a complete end to hostilities, a full Israeli withdrawal, reconstruction, international guarantees and progress toward Palestinian statehood.
According to AFP, Hamas sources said the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), a Palestinian technocratic body established by the Board of Peace,would become the sole authority responsible for managing and storing Hamas’ weapons. Reuters separately reported that Hamas had reiterated that any handover remained contingent on an Israeli withdrawal and increased humanitarian aid entering the enclave.
Under the published roadmap, Israel must complete “without delay” its remaining commitments under the October ceasefire arrangements, “particularly the cessation of military operations.” Hamas and other Palestinian factions would transfer civilian governance and security functions to the NCAG.
Heavy weapons and military infrastructure would subsequently be decommissionedunder the committee’s administration, while Israeli forces would withdraw in phases.
The Board of Peace was established under Trump’s Gaza plan following last October’s ceasefire to oversee the enclave’s post-war transition and reconstruction.It is tasked with supervising reconstruction, supporting the transfer of civilian governance to the NCAG and coordinating the deployment of an international stabilization force.
According to the Gaza health authorities, at least 73,340 Palestinians have been killed and more than 174,000 wounded since Israel launched its military campaign in response to the deadly Hamas raid of October 2023.

House GOP leaders are planning to bring former MLB star Mark Teixeira, one of their top candidate recruits this cycle, out on the trail in battleground districts over the summer recess sprint.
Majority Leader Steve Scalise will host a fundraiser with Teixeira in New York City on Aug. 20 with Speaker Mike Johnson as a special guest, according to three people with direct knowledge of the event, granted anonymity to discuss plans that have not yet been made public.
It’s part of a New York swing where Teixeira and Johnson will also hit nearby stops in GOP Rep. Mike Lawler’s 17th Congressional District and for Mike LiPetri, who is trying to unseat Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi in New York’s 3rd Congressional District.
Teixeira is running to replace GOP Rep. Chip Roy in Texas’ 21st Congressional District. He won a World Series title with the Yankees in 2009 and also played for the Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels before retiring from professional baseball in 2016 after 14 seasons.
Because Teixeira has little chance of losing in the deep-red seat,Republican leaders are hoping to harness his star power to boost their candidates in the most competitive races. They’re planning for Teixeira to help campaign in a wider swath of battleground districts in August and through November, including likely stops in Pennsylvania and Georgia.

Australia's first ever sports bar dedicated to women has closed its doors over the new year, saying it had struggled to stay afloat amid a tough economic climate.
On January 2, The Ladies League in Sydney’s bustling suburb of Darlinghurst posted a message on social media, describing the decision to shut was made “with a heavy heart.”
“Unfortunately, it is outside of live games that we felt the struggle as much as many other hospitality venues in this economic climate. While we knew going in cost living pressures have impacted how patrons spend, this is something we wanted to do for women’s sport visibility,” the Ladies League said.
“We knew we had a fantastic product on offer, but unfortunately, as a small business, we couldn’t hold on any longer to try any new approaches. We had full belief we would not be in this position at this early stage.
“We hope this doesn’t discourage anyone from opening a similar concept in the future. The support we felt from the community was amazing. It’s unfortunately a hard reality of how people are choosing to spend their money at this stage.”
The bar went on to thank everyone who had visited the venue or showed support online during its four-month long operations.
“We have nothing but gratitude for everyone that supported us and apologise for this result.”
Founder and owner, Rose Valente, 34, launched the bar in August 2024, telling Women’s Agenda she has wanted to open a bar designed for women for them to come together and enjoy watching women’s sports.
“I thought it would be sick,” Valente said in an interview last year. “I just thought it a really cool thing to do, and I thought it was needed as well.”
“There’s nowhere really that you can gather as a group of women, or for people who support women’s sport,” she said. “When you walk into a pub, it’s nearly impossible to have a women’s sport game on.”

“Men, women, you don’t have to identify as anyone — this is literally just a place where anyone can watch women’s sport. Our sole purpose is to support women’s sport. We want to help support women’s sport, and we want to help roll it.”
The news has shocked and saddened supporters, many of whom reacted to the Instagram post with their own comments.
“Absolutely gutted,” one user wrote. “I LOVE everything you’ve been doing for women’s sport and just so sorry to hear this.”
“I only got to visit for one night and felt so safe being surrounded by other passionate women supporting their teams,” wrote another. “Truly devastated to hear this. I hope one day we see something similar again, theres not enough venues like yours in this city! 😞 best wishes to your future endeavours.”
“Thank you so much for everything,” one user wrote. “For creating such a warm and welcoming environment, for having the guts to give it a go. Much love to you and all the staff. The memories created there will last a lifetime.”
Sad reality
The bar’s surprise closure comes as small business continue to struggle amid tough economic conditions and the high cost of living. According to CreditorWatch’s Business Risk Index (BRI) Australian business closures reached a record high of an average of 5.04 per cent in October last year. Months prior, it released a report, warning that up to one in 13 small hospitality businesses could be closed, bearing the cost of the country’s economic crisis.
“The major challenge for businesses in the food and beverage services industry is their exposure to the discretionary spending of consumers, which has dried up as cost-of-living pressures mount,” the report stated. “Hospitality businesses have also struggled to manage cost pressures, such as power prices and cost of ingredients, as well as labour shortages.”
Many small businesses in Australia have suffered from labour shortages, staff costs, and the rising cost of living.
Equally discouraging regarding The Ladies League closure is the fact that more media coverage has seemed to report on its closure than when it launched.
Hopes and dreams
When Rose Valente opened the doors of The Ladies League in August, she and her team of sport fans had “a hunger for a female perspective.”
“We were a group of people who all just came together and worked on our passion,” Valente said. “We made it as our hobby, it was our passion. So the content we would put out was just really good.”
Valente had initially operated a blog under the same name, a place for her to write what she wanted to write about women’s sport.
“When you watch the men’s game, and watch the panel, and it’s different now, but at the time, it would be three men on the panel, and then you’d have either Mel McLaughlin or Tara Rushton on the sidelines,” she explained. “The women would just have a few minutes of air time, and they were just there to assist.”
“I knew there were some women who were fantastic at what they do, capable of having those [panel] positions.”
The bar was a physical manifestation of the original blog. When she decided to turn her platform into a venue, she was met with a lot of discouragement.
“People told me this is a gamble, this is risky, everyone considered me high risk,” she said. “But I have so much faith in this. The women’s sport community is so strong, it’s so wholesome, it’s so supportive.”
Sadly, it appears that the platform will return to its online capacity — for now. But Valente will go down in history as the owner of Australia’s first sports bar dedicated to women. That’s no small feat, and we’re eagerly awaiting her next move.

US Government Acquires Equity Stakes in 7 More Companies
The federal government purchased a 10 percent stake in chipmaker Intel last summer for approximately $11 billion.
The Department of Commerce said on July 29 it will allocate $874 million in incentives to bolster U.S. chip manufacturing, linking the funding to equity stakes in seven companies.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) said the Commerce Department’s CHIPS Research and Development Office signed letters of intent with the tech firms as part of the Biden administration’s 2022 CHIPS and Science Act.
According to a NIST blog post, the funds will be directed toward research and development on several vital technologies, including integrated photonics. These are microchips that move and process data using light rather than electricity.
The federal incentives will also support work on new computing architectures and memory systems designed for high‑performance and AI workloads.
This is all part of the administration’s initiative of returning chip manufacturing to the United States, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said in a statement.
“With today’s compute supply chain investments, the Trump Administration is accelerating America’s innovation engine,” Lutnick said.
“These strategic investments will enhance our country’s domestic capabilities, create high-paying jobs, and keep America at the forefront of the semiconductor industry.”
Two firms will receive more than half of the funding: semiconductor manufacturer GlobalFoundries (up to $300 million) and AI memory firm Kepler (up to $245 million).
The remaining funds will be sent to Multibeam Corp, Extropic, Thintronics, OBSIDIA Semiconductors, and Aeluma.
It has been about four years since President Joe Biden signed the landmark bill. The legislation provides federal support to domestic semiconductor manufacturers to bolster domestic semiconductor production.
Shortly after his return to the White House for a second term, President Donald Trump urged Congress to scrap the legislation, which received bipartisan pushback from lawmakers.
“Your CHIPS Act is a horrible, horrible thing. We give hundreds of billions of dollars, and it doesn’t mean a thing. They take our money, and they don’t spend it,” Trump said in a speech to a joint session of Congress in March 2025. “You should get rid of the CHIPS Act and whatever is left over, Mr. Speaker, you should use it to reduce debt.”
Rather than handing out subsidies to companies without receiving anything in return, the president has said the government should instead be given small stakes in these firms.

It’s scheduled to happen Aug. 4 and Aug. 5 in Swansboro, which sits along on the Intracoastal Waterway. The town of 4,000 people is about 20-miles northeast of Camp Lejeune.
“U.S. Marines and NATO allies will be conducting urban close-air-support training exercises,” the force reported in a July 30 news release. “During this period, community members may notice military personnel in both military and civilian attire wearing tactical gear (and) increased military aircraft and vehicles on the roads. … These exercises may cause brief disruptions, and the public’s patience and understanding are appreciated.” The fake conflict is intended to prepare service members for “real-world scenarios” in urban areas, officials said. The II Marine Expeditionary Force reports it has “coordinated extensively” with community leaders and first responders “to ensure that all activities are conducted safely and with as little impact on the local community as possible.” Swansboro is about a 140-mile drive southeast from downtown Raleigh.

The pilot of the aircraft managed to eject and has since been taken to a local medical facility for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The aircraft was assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 11, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing.

This ineptitude is also a major reason why Israel’s favorability is rapidly declining among every demographic in the U.S., regardless of party, and only worsens as you climb down the age ladder.
Maybe instead of spending zillions of dollars on incompetent influencers with horrific track records when it comes to politics and communications, or on deploying obvious bot networks to harass anyone who runs afoul of whatever the party line is on any given day, the leaders could instead listen—for free!—to Americans who very much want them to survive and prosper about how to better communicate how their interests might align with America’s.
