The armed citizen who pulled a pistol and engaged the In-N-Out shooter Saturday in Twin Falls, Idaho is a healthcare worker who serves as the caregiver for his brother, according to the Idaho Stateman.

The citizen, 35-year-old Jordan Salinas, arrived at the In-N-Out after a morning of horseback riding with his girlfriend. Upon pulling up to the restaurant he saw people fleeing and thought, at first, it might be a kitchen fire. Then he heard gunshots ringing out.

Salinas had an FN Five-Seven pistol with a suppressor in a chest rig and he drew the gun and engaged the shooter.

He described his response as “automatic” and “mechanical,” noting that he has trained and worked at responding to such a scenario for years.

The New York Post noted that Salinas approached the moment with a mental framework of “Observe, Orient, Decide, Act.”

Salinas told the Statesman that the shooter “did not like it when bullets started firing both ways.”

Breitbart News reported that there were two good guys with guns who engaged the shooter, Salinas and an off-duty police officer who has not yet been identified.

Army Launches Project Manager for Space Superiority and Exploitation

On July 31, the Product Manager for the Army Tactical Exploitation of National Capabilities (TENCAP) and the Product Manager for Tactical Space Superiority (PdM TSS) are aligned under the newly created Project Manager Space Superiority and Exploitation (PM SSE), which operates under the Capability Program Executive for Intelligence and Spectrum Warfare (CPE ISW).

Col. Carter Deekenswill serve as the Project Manager for Space Superiority and Exploitation (PM SSE).

He leads an organization responsible for delivering advanced space and sensing capabilities that transform data from national, space, and terrestrial sources into actionable intelligence and space capabilities for Army operations.

“I could not be more excited for this opportunity,” said Deekens. “This is truly a full-circle moment for me, as Army TENCAP is where I began my acquisition program management career nearly 15 years ago.”

The teaming of TENCAP and PdM TSS during a time of rapid technological developments in today’s battlefield on land and space called for the creation of PM SS&E.

The Army has broadened the scope of the TENCAP mission in recognition of its ability to rapidly deliver critical capabilities to the Warfighter — transforming the Army now for future warfare by combining PdM TENCAP and PdM TSS under PM SSE.

“Bringing Army TENCAP and PdM TSS together creates a tremendous opportunity to accelerate the delivery of critical intelligence capabilities, enabling the Army to outpace emerging threats and ensure our warfighters have the information they need to make timely, informed decisions,” Deekens said.

PM SSE will bring these improved capabilities to battlefield commanders for multi-domain operations worldwide.

Additionally, by integrating capabilities, this newly formed organization is enabling intelligence support to critical protection operations.

Evolving for the Multi-Domain Fight

The PM SSE mission combines the legacy missions of TENCAP and PdM TSS into a single undertaking that delivers critical Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) and electronic warfare capabilities for commanders and Soldiers.

Because the Army’s next fight will occur across multiple domains, successful operations in and through the space domain will be critical to mission success.

"I have tremendous confidence in the technical expertise, operational experience, and dedication of the professionals across both organizations, and I know they have earned the trust of Army senior leaders through their consistent ability to deliver,” Deekens said.

PM SSE will develop, deliver, and field access to these products and services, building confidence for commanders at all echelons.

To fight at echelon in and through space means employing the next generation of tactical terminals to leverage capabilities and access space-enabled tactical ISR platforms to meet deep sensing requirements in coordination with the broader intelligence community.

A Legacy of Space Intelligence

The foundation for PM SSE was laid decades ago. The Army created the Army Space Program Office (ASPO) in 1973, recognizing the need to deliver critical ISR to Soldiers gathered by satellites.

ASPO was later renamed TENCAP in 2013 after the Army leveraged space intelligence to support Operation Desert Storm and the fight against terrorists in Afghanistan.

Technological evolution has consistently kept pace with battlefield requirements during these periods.

For example, in the mid-1980s, TENCAP moved away from analyzing images on film to soft-copy analysis, which helped significantly expedite intelligence analysis and dissemination.

Pacing the Modern Threat

Lessons learned from decades of experience will be applied by PM SS&E. The organization’s mission is to enable the Army to rapidly exploit and influence national capabilities and architectures.

Moving forward, PM SS&E will conduct advanced development and rapid prototyping to enhance, inform, and modernize Army capabilities and Concepts of Operation (CONOPs) to effectively pace the modern threat.

Stocks rally as easing Middle East tensions push oil prices lower

Oil prices eased Monday as President Donald Trump announced that he was holding off on new military strikes against Iran, calming Wall Street’s concerns that inflation could get worse.

U.S. stock indexes are climbing as a result, despite significant market volatility beneath the surface.

The S&P 500 rose 1% after a volatile month in July, where it oscillated as oil prices rose due to the war with Iran, and investors questioned whether Big Tech’s investments in AI would actually generate profits and whether chipmaker stocks climbed too high due to AI euphoria.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average went up 711 points, or 1.4%, as of 10:15 a.m. Eastern time, while the Nasdaq composite rose by 1.2%.

The sharpest movement occurred in the oil market, with the price of a barrel of Brent crude falling 5.4% to $83.70 a barrel. Last month, the price of Brent crude swung between $72 and $102 as concerns grew about whether the war with Iran would allow oil tankers to leave the Persian Gulf to transport oil to customers across the globe.

Treasury yields also fell in the bond market, with the yield on the 10-year Treasury falling from 4.75% to 4.68%, although this is still above the 3.97% level from before the Iran War began.

Because Treasury yields jumped during the war with Iran, higher borrowing costs for households and businesses were threatening to drag down stock prices and slow the economy.

The drop in oil prices on Monday helped drive up stocks for airlines and heavy fuel consumers, with United Airlines shares climbing 6.7%, while American Airlines rose 6.4%.

Tyson Foods rose 1.8% after reporting a stronger profit for the spring than analysts predicted. It joins a growing list of major U.S. companies beating profit estimates, which is critical for Wall Street as stock prices tend to follow corporate earnings trends over the long term.

Companies in the S&P 500 are set to deliver earnings per share in the spring quarter 47% higher than the previous year, according to Factset, with 61% of companies already having reported their actual results. That would make the strongest growth since spring 2021, when the economy was coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the flip side, computer chip manufacturers saw losses on Monday, with stocks continuing to fluctuate sharply over concerns about whether AI boom revenues can last. If AI produces less profit and productivity than expected, Big Tech companies could limit their spending on data centers that have helped chip stocks soar.

Micron Technology fell 3.2% Monday, but its stock is still up about 180% for the year. The fluctuations for AI stocks have been most evidently reflected in South Korea, where its Kospi index is dominated by two tech companies, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.

Seoul’s Kospi fell 5.1% Monday, in contrast to Friday’s surge of 17.9%, which was the biggest gain in a single day in the index’s history.

In Japan, the country's neighbor, Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 fell 0.9% following the U.S. Treasury's assistance in buying Japanese yen to stop the currency from hitting 40-year lows. While a stronger yen could help curb inflation in Japan, it could also hurt exporters in Japan, The Associated Press reported.

Maryland Democrats on Monday began a special session to redraw its congressional district maps, marking the latest state to move toward a redraw mid-decade.

Maryland currently has only one Republican member of Congress and a redraw is expected to eliminate that district, Politico reported. Notably, no redrawn map from this session would take effect before the 2028 elections, meaning Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md., is likely safe for the short-term.

The session is likely to address a constitutional amendment that would allow a redrawn map to survive judicial scrutiny. That move comes after the state Supreme Court previously struck down a map in 2022 and the Virginia Supreme Court blocked a redraw earlier this year.

At President Donald Trump's urging, many Republican-led states redrew their congressional maps to favor Republicans for the midterms, prompting several Democratic states to attempt to fight back, though only California managed to impose its revised slates in time for the midterms.

The Department of Homeland Security on Monday revealed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last week had deported a litany of illegal alien gang members from multiple criminal organizations.

Under the Trump administration, ICE and DHS have pursued a mass deportation campaign to make good on the president's campaign pledge to deport as many as 20 million illegal aliens. DHS has prioritized the "worst of the worst" aliens with criminal records in that endeavor.

The roundup comes as ICE detentions reached a new monthly high of 46,000 in June alone.

“Every day, the brave men and women of ICE are arresting and removing dangerous criminal illegal aliens, including gang members, from our country,” a DHS spokesperson said. “Last week alone, ICE deported murderers, sexual assailants, burglars, and drunk drivers. Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, the safety of the American people will always come first. It’s no wonder crime rates have reached record lows, including the murder rate projected to fall to a 126-year low!”

Topping the latest roundup was Josue Isaias Cruz Ruiz of El Salvador, a member of the 18th Street gang previously convicted of homicide.

Ermis Francisco Orellana Rivas of El Salvador is a member of the MS-13 gang and was previously convicted for sexual assault and burglary.

Pablo Othoniel Lopez Sarricolea of Mexico is a member of the Paisas gang and was previously convicted of assault, DUI, resisting an officer, and illegal re-entry.

Erick Palacios Martinez of El Salvador is a member of the La Mirada Locos gang member and was previously convicted for robbery, damaging property, and trespassing.

RAMSTEIN, Germany - The French Air and Space Force has concluded its NATO Baltic Air Policing (BAP) deployment at Šiauliai Air Base, Lithuania, after completing two consecutive rotations in support of safeguarding NATO airspace over the Baltic region.

During the four-month deployment, French Rafale fighter aircraft and personnel maintained continuous Quick Reaction Alert (QRA), ensuring NATO's ability to respond rapidly to potential airspace violations.

Operating as part of NATO's Baltic Air Policing mission under enhanced Vigilance Activity (eVA) Eastern Sentry, the detachment reinforced the Alliance's deterrence and defence posture while working closely with Baltic nations and Allied Air Forces.

Across the deployment, the French Air and Space Force flew more than 540 flying hours while responding to almost 40 Alpha Scrambles and conducting nearly 70 training Scrambles.

One major milestone during the deployment was when a French Rafale destroyed a drone over Latvia during an operational mission, marking the first operational employment of the MICA missile by the French Air and Space Force in the Baltic region.

"This mission has been a milestone for the BAP Block 71 detachment,” said a French Detachment spokesperson, whose name was withheld at the discretion of France.

“Operationally, the MICA missile is deployed by the French Air and Space Force all over the world but using it here for the first time in the Baltic states, to destroy a drone over Latvia, was a real tactical success for NATO, France and the Baltic states.”

The deployment featured a broad programme of multinational training with Allied fighter detachments, including Romanian F-16s, Polish MiG-29s and Agile Combat Employment (ACE) activities in Sweden.

French aircrews also conducted joint ground attack and live air-to-ground gunnery training with Belgian, German and Lithuanian forces, while Rafale C crews carried out joint counter-uncrewed aerial systems (c-UAS) missions with Estonian and Lithuanian partners to detect and engage training drones.

Additional training included Close Air Support (CAS), Beyond Visual Range (BVR) air combat, familiarization flights and multinational training Scrambles with Lithuanian, Estonian, Latvian, Romanian, Polish, German and Canadian forces.

"We come out of this mission stronger, alongside our Allied partners,” the French detachment spokesperson added. “Given the current threat around the world, we were able to work with our Allies to adapt our training accordingly, especially in counter-UAS.

Ensuring the uninterrupted protection of NATO airspace, the French Air and Space Force detachment will now hand over responsibilities to the incoming Italian Air Force Detachment, who will conduct Air Defence mission from Šiauliai Air Base, Lithuania over the Baltics.

This deployment marks a shift from NATO’s Air Policing mission to a broader Air Defence role, aimed at providing a more flexible approach across the alliance’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) framework within NATO’s area of responsibility.

The call for proposals for the 2026-2027 cycle of the ESA Academy Experiments programme is now open! University teams are invited to submit ideas for scientific and technical experiments.

The Experiments programme offers free consultation prior to submitting an experiment proposal. Successful applicants will be supported in the design, development and operations of their experiment onboard one of the available platforms.

The deadline to submit applications is Sunday 22 November 2026 at 23:59 CET.

The ESA Academy Experiments programme is a hands-on initiative offering bachelor’s, master’s and PhD students from eligible states the opportunity to design, build and test their own experiment in a facility that is not commonly accessible to students.

Two research platforms are available for this opportunity: the Parabolic Flights and the Orbital Robotics Lab.

The parabolic flight campaign, taking place on the Airbus A310 Zero-G, consists of a series of three flights of 31 parabolas, which individually provide about 22 seconds of centi-milli-gravity levels (10-2g - 10-3g).

The Orbital Robotics Lab includes Europe’s largest 2D free floating testbed, a motion capturing system, maneuverable floating platforms, as well as a satellite docking mechanism to support your experiment idea.

Thanks to the friction reduction, this facility provides a suitable analogue to the microgravity space environment, simulating microgravity in three dimensions (2 translational, 1 rotational).

Participants will receive expert guidance from space professionals at every stage of their project, from kick-off to the experiment operations and analysis.

Through participation in a space project in a professional and international environment, they gain engineering and scientific competences, experience in the execution of complex projects, and industry-relevant soft skills.

The programme is structured in four key phases:

Phase 1: Listen and Learn, 31 July – 22 November 2026.

In the “Listen and Learn” phase, students are invited to follow an online module which includes a series of pre-recorded lectures about systems engineering, project and team management, ESA and its exploration and technology roadmaps, and the different platforms that are offered by the Experiments programme. These online lectures guide teams in making informed decisions about participating in the subsequent phases of the ESA Academy Experiments programme and offer insights on how to best approach their project ideas.

He described the attack as a “tragedy” deliberately targeting civilian sites after debris from a downed drone fell on the resort village of Arkhipo-Osipovka.

The governor ordered the local authorities to provide all necessary assistance to the victims and the families of those killed.

Russian Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik shared footage of the attack on social media, showing the moment a drone struck a densely packed beach near Gelendzhik, sending beachgoers scrambling for cover.

Gelendzhik Mayor Aleksey Bogodistov later said the number of people injured in the attack had risen to 47.

He said extra medical staff from the city hospital and a local rehabilitation center had been sent to the scene, while psychologists and volunteers were helping victims. Those with serious injuries were being transferred to hospitals in nearby cities, he added.

A total of 21 people, including three children, have been hospitalized, according to Russia’s Health Ministry. Nine of the injured are in serious condition, including at least two children.

This is not the first time Ukrainian forces have targeted Russian resorts. Just last week, 12 people, including five children, were killed when drones struck a hotel in the town of Kirillovka in Russia’s Zaporozhye Region.

The popular holiday destination lies more than 100 km from the nearest front line and has no military facilities nearby.

Another major tragedy occurred in 2024, when four people, including two children, were killed and more than 150 others injured after the Ukrainian military fired five US-supplied ATACMS missiles at the Crimean city of Sevastopol.

Russian air defenses intercepted four of the missiles, but a fifth, though damaged, veered off course and detonated its cluster warhead over a crowded beach.

Ukraine has sharply intensified its long-range drone campaign in recent weeks, targeting oil facilities, warehouses, residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure deep inside Russian territory as Kiev’s forces continue to suffer setbacks on the battlefield.

Last month, Russia announced the capture of the key Ukrainian stronghold of Konstantinovka in northwestern Donbass, before launching an offensive toward the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration, the last two major cities in the region still under Ukrainian control.

Moscow has described Kiev’s drone raids as terrorist attacks deliberately targeting civilians. One of the deadliest recent incidents came in May, when Ukrainian drones struck a student dormitory in the Donbass town of Starobelsk, partially collapsing the five-story building and killing 21 people.

Russia has also stepped up long-range strikes on Ukraine’s military-industrial and logistical infrastructure, describing the campaign as retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilian and energy facilities.

Moscow maintains that it targets only military sites and infrastructure supporting Ukraine’s armed forces.

Meanwhile, Russia has long argued that the Ukraine conflict is a NATO-backed proxy war against Moscow, pointing to the scale of Western military and financial aid to Kiev, as well as the unprecedented sanctions imposed on Russia over its military operation.

Commenting on Monday’s strike, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova reiterated that countries supporting Kiev have become “sponsors of terrorism.”

“The sponsors of terrorism are NATO countries. Not long ago, NATO and the EU proclaimed zero tolerance for terrorism. Today, they themselves have become part of international terrorist activity,” Zakharova said, describing the Kiev leadership as a “terrorist gang.”

President Donald Trump on Monday signed an executive order establishing the President's Military Spouse Commission that would focus on improving quality of life for the spouses of military service members.

"America cannot have the strongest military in the world without the love and devotion of our remarkable military spouses who make the extraordinary sacrifices for our country," he said. "This Commission will provide recommendations for improving the quality of life for military spouses so that we can better support both our military families and the entire United States armed forces."

Trump made the announcement in a signing ceremony in the Oval Office, with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and joint chiefs chairman Dan Caine in attendance. Jennifer Hegseth, the wife of the secretary of war, is set to chair the panel.

Ukraine Strikes Russian Drone Development University, Wildberries Logistics Hub, Crimea in Overnight Raid

Ukrainian drones struck targets across Russia and occupied Crimea, hitting a university in Belgorod reportedly involved in drone technology development, a major Wildberries logistics hub in Vladimir region, and several locations in Crimea, according to Russian and Ukrainian sources.

On Monday, drones attacked the Belgorod State Technological University (BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov), local outlet Pepel reported. Several strikes on the university grounds triggered a large fire, destroying one of the buildings.

The facility reportedly housed the development and testing of an automated drone control system based on the Russian-made “Milandr” microprocessor.

The university previously said the technology had civilian applications, including monitoring power lines, heating infrastructure, and aerial photography.

BSTU had also launched summer courses for school students focused on drone development. Russian authorities have not officially confirmed the strike on the university.

A separate drone attack hit a warehouse complex in Russia’s Vladimir region, Governor Alexander Avdeyev said.

“People have been evacuated. Emergency services are working at the scene,” he wrote on Telegram.

Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova+ identified the target as Wildberries’ “Vladimir – Vorshinskoye” logistics center, with videos from the scene appeared to show at least one drone striking the warehouse before a fire broke out.

The 58,500-square-meter (14.5-acre) facility opened in December 2024 and was due to expand to 175,000 square meters (43 acres) this year. It serves as a distribution hub for Moscow, central Russia, and the country’s northwest.

The strike appears to be part of a broader Ukrainian campaign against Wildberries’ logistics network.

According to Russian outlet Agentstvo, Ukrainian forces have targeted at least 18 Wildberries facilities over the past two weeks, damaging warehouses with a combined area of around 1 million square meters (247 acres) – about 38% of the retailer’s largest logistics hubs.

Among the largest facilities hit are warehouses in Elektrostal, Krasnodar, St. Petersburg, Voronezh, Tambov, and Volgograd, with several suffering major fires and extensive damage.

Agentstvo estimated that logistics centers accounting for roughly 60% of Wildberries’ major warehouse capacity have now been targeted, suggesting Kyiv is increasingly seeking to disrupt Russia’s logistics infrastructure alongside military and energy assets.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones also targeted Russian-occupied Crimea overnight, according to Ukrainian monitoring channels Crimean Wind and Exilenova+.

Explosions were reported in the Saky district, Feodosia, Simferopol, and Kerch.

In Feodosia, Russian mobile air defense units attempted to intercept a drone, but it may have struck an area near a local oil depot, the channels reported.

In Kerch, a fire broke out near the Central Market and bus station, close to the Kerch port, with residents reporting flames near the port area.

Traffic on the Crimean Bridge was temporarily suspended amid the overnight attacks.

On June 3, 2022, the FBI arrested Peter Navarro, a former Trump White House trade adviser and economic official, at Washington’s Reagan National Airport forthe high and hideous crime of ignoring a congressional subpoena from the House January 6 Committee. The FBI handcuffed him. A grand jury indicted him and a court convicted him. Trump later pardoned him.

On October 12, 2011, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee subpoena-ed Attorney General Eric Holder for JusticeDepartment documents and communications related to Operation Fast and Furious, which gave rifles to Mexican drug cartels.

Holder ignored the subpoena. The House voted 255–67 to hold him in criminal contempt of Congress—the first time a sitting Cabinet member faced such a charge. But President Obama asserted executive privilege over the remaining documents and the Justice Department declined to prosecute Holder.

So the rule of law is Democrat presidents can go after political enemies, while protecting lawbreaking Cabinet officials from facing justice. Republican presidents face dealing with passive-aggressive Republican Congresses whose members would rather be in the minority than actually do the work of a majority Congress.

Which leads to Wednesday’s Senate committee hearing—chaired by Senator Rand Paul—into the trillion-dollar covid catastrophe caused by Tony Fauci, whom Reagan brought to Washington to find a cure for AIDS. Over the course of 40 years, Fauci built a bureaucratic empire and ingratiated himself among the politicians, celebrities and press gaggles of DC. Barbra Streisand had him on speed dial. (People. Fauci won’t go to prison for any of this.

But his contempt of Congress—his refusal to answer any questions despite having immunity from federal prosecution—should land him in jail because the Fifth Amendment should not apply to someone who received a pre-emptive pardon.

Lawyers can argue the fine points of a blanket pardon,but what struck me was Fauci refused to answer any questions at all, which should establish that he showed a contempt for Congress that is unacceptable. Senator Paul called it an obstruction of a congressional investigation. That sounds extremely serious.Whether John Thune—a euphemism for lifer Senate bots—has Rand Paul’s back is another matter.

My take is Fauci was not worried about being prosecuted but rather he was maintaining Omertà, the code of silence to protect his accomplices. By accepting the pardon, Fauci admitted committing crimes. Someone helped him. Now he is protecting them.
