The Pitfalls of Hypostatization

The worst enemy of clear thinking is the propensity to hypostatize, i.e., to ascribe substance or real existence to mental constructs or concepts.

In the sciences of human action the most conspicuous instance of this fallacy is the way in which the term society is employed by various schools of pseudo science. There is no harm in employing the term to signify the cooperation of individuals united in endeavors to attain definite ends. It is a definite aspect of various individuals' actions that constitutes what is called society or the "great society." But society itself is neither a substance, nor a power, nor an acting being. Only individuals act. Some of the individuals' actions are directed by the intention to cooperate with others. Cooperation of individuals brings about a state of affairs which the concept of society describes. Society does not exist apart from the thoughts and actions of people. It does not have "interests" and does not aim at anything. The same is valid for all other collectives.

Hypostatization is not merely an epistemological fallacy and not only misleads the search for knowledge. In the so-called social sciences it more often than not serves definite political aspirations in claiming for the collective as such a higher dignity than for the individual or even ascribing real existence only to the collective and denying the existence of the individual, calling it a mere abstraction.

The collectivists themselves disagree with one another in the appreciation of the various collectivistic constructs. They claim a higher reality and moral dignity for one collective than for others or, in a more radical way, even deny both real existence and dignity to the collectivistic constructs of other people. Thus, nationalists consider the "nation" as the only true collective, to which alone all individuals they consider as conationals owe allegiance, and stigmatize all other collectives—e.g., the religious communities—as of minor rank. However, epistemology does not have to deal with the political controversies implied.

In denying perseity, i.e., independent existence of their own, to the collectives, one does not in the least deny the reality of the effects brought about by the cooperation of individuals. One merely establishes the fact that the collectives come into being by the thoughts and actions of individuals and that they disappear when the individuals adopt a different way of thinking and acting. The thoughts and actions of a definite individual are instrumental in the emergence not only of one, but of various collectives. Thus, e.g., the same individual's various attitudes may serve to constitute the collectives nation, religious community, political party, and so on. On the other hand, a man may, without discontinuing entirely his belonging to a definite collective, occasionally or even regularly in some of his actions proceed in a way that is incompatible with the preservation of his membership. Thus, e.g., it happened in the recent history of various nations that practicing Catholics cast their votes in favor of candidates who openly avowed their hostility to the political aspirations of the Church and spurned its dogmas as fables. In dealing with collectives, the historian must pay attention to the degree to which the various ideas of cooperation determine the thinking and the actions of their members. Thus, in dealing with the history of the Italian Risorgimento, he has to investigate to what extent and in what manner the idea of an Italian national state and to what extent and in what manner the idea of a secular papal state influenced the attitudes of the various individuals and groups whose conduct is the subject of his studies.

The political and ideological conditions of the Germany of his day induced Marx to employ, in the announcement of his program of nationalization of the means of production, the term "society" instead of the term "state" (Staat), which is the German equivalent of the English term "nation." The socialist propaganda endowed the term "society" and the adjective "social" with an aura of sanctity that is manifested by the quasi-religious esteem that what is called "social work," i.e., the management of the distribution of alms and similar activities, enjoys.

Mayo Clinic Terminates 700 Unvaccinated Employees at Locations Nationwide

Mayo Clinic fired 700 employees on Tuesday because they were not vaccinated by its Monday deadline.

Employees had until Monday to receive their first dose of coronavirus vaccine if they were not granted a religious or medical exemption, according to the Star Tribune. The organization says it greenlit the majority of exemption applications.

Mayo Clinic employs about 73,000 people, so roughly one percent of its workforce was terminated Tuesday, according to CBS Minnesota.

Actions News Jax reports that the organization fired employees at locations nationwide.

Mayo Clinic released a statement, per KIMT, which reads in part:

While Mayo Clinic is saddened to lose valuable employees, we need to take all steps necessary to keep our patients, workforce, visitors and communities safe. If individuals released from employment choose to get vaccinated at a later date, the opportunity exists for them to apply and return to Mayo Clinic for future job openings.

The outlet spoke with Jessica Moore-Wright, who had worked for the organization for 14 years before losing her job on Tuesday.

“I believe in science and I also believe in a personal choice. I mean, I’ve had friends who have had cancer,” Wright-Moore said. “I’ve had friends that have had different viruses and they would do different things but I would never, ever tell somebody that you need to do this because I did. Ever.”

She says she applied for a religious exemption twice, but Mayo Clinic denied her request both times. Wright-Moore told KIMT that a representative informed her she could have her position back if she becomes inoculated within the next year.

She plans to stand by her decision.

“To be able to stand up for something you believe in is important,” she told the outlet. “I do think that every decision we make is important but if you believe in something strongly I don’t believe you should have to cave to keep a job.”

REPORT: Mexican Army Loses 30% of Weapons Purchased from U.S.

Mexico’s military is allegedly working to cover up its loss of weapons purchased from other countries.

Mexico’s Army (SEDENA) is losing approximately 30 percent of weapons purchased from the U.S., a report from Mexican journalist Carlos Loret De Mola revealed. The report comes as Mexico’s federal government litigates against firearm manufacturers in a U.S. court, blaming them for the raging cartel violence.

Those missing weapons are showing up in crime scenes. Mexico’s military has also allegedly misplaced weapons bought from Germany, Australia, Italy, Romania, Spain, and Belgium.

In Mexico, the Army is the only entity that can purchase weapons from other countries. Further, all weapons bought by federal, state, and local law enforcement, as well as private citizens, are sold by SEDENA. Loret De Mola reports that a national center called CENAPI within the Attorney General’s Office keeps track of weapons found in crime scenes or seized from criminal organizations — but because of the lawsuit, they are suppressing information about Mexican Army guns in the hands of cartels. The CENAPI even denied requests for information about those weapons as a way to protect the military as being partly responsible in Mexico’s illicit gun trade.

The new allegations come at a time when Mexico’s military is plagued by scandals. State authorities in Oaxaca arrested a former general who was a candidate for secretary of defense on extortion charges in December.

Also in December, Canadian authorities arrested General Eduardo Leon Trauwitz on an extradition warrant from Mexico over his alleged role in the widespread theft of fuel, CBC reported.

In October 2020, U.S. authorities arrested former Mexican Secretary of Defense Salvador Cienfuegos on drug trafficking charges. Mexico’s government was able to secure his release claiming they would investigate and prosecute, but ultimately dismissed the case.

Anyone else noticing a lack of spam emails recently? I usually check my spam daily because sometimes Babylon Bee or other emails will be routed into there, and obviously there's lot of junk about ED pills, sweepstakes, etc. I noticed that the spam stopped coming in right around Christmas, and originally laughed it off, thinking that even spammers need to spend some family time during the holidays, but it still hasn't returned. Dean Obeidallah, a SiriusXM radio host and CNN opinion columnist, has issued a decree that Jared Schmeck deserves to have his life ruined, NewsBusters reported.

Schmeck is the man who called into the NORAD Santa Tracker Live Stream and wished hosts Joe and Jill Biden a “Merry Christmas.” He followed his holiday well wishes with a “Let’s go Brandon!”

To which President Biden responded: “Let’s go Brandon, I agree!”

Obeidallah, whose career is built on woke comedy and matchsticks, took to CNN to rail against Schmeck for using “coded phrases” to curse at the president.

Obeidallah conceded that free speech often dictates criticism towards sitting government officials, but believes that in this specific case, Schmeck’s joke was “despicable.”

He then goes on to say that Schmeck should not have censored himself at all:

“If you want to curse out a sitting POTUS, at least have the courage to do it outright rather than playing politically correct games and hiding behind coded phrases.”

He says this despite his apparent horror that this “coded phrase” was used on a livestream thousands of children were watching.

Finally, Obeidallah mocked Schmeck for defending himself after receiving threatening calls as a result of his phone conversation with Biden:

“Aww, poor ‘victim’ Schmeck,” Obeidallah said. “Apparently, he thinks he should be able to tell Biden to basically go f**k himself while on a family friendly holiday call, but no one should be able to take issue with his actions.”

Obeidallah, a left-wing tele-activist who writes propaganda under the guise of “comedy” and constantly retweets his own tweets, ends the article with a meager attempt at a joke:

Isn’t it funny how certain numbers just seem to come up over and over again? On March 11th, 2020 the World Health Organization officially declared that the COVID-19 outbreak was a global pandemic. According to timeanddate.com, moving forward 666 days brings us to January 5th, 2022. Director Plummer acquired this unique SARS coronavirus sample from a Saudi patient at Canada's NML in Winnipeg from Ron Fouchier, a leading virologist at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, Netherlands. He was sent the virus by an Egyptian virologist, Dr. Ali Mohamed Zaki, who isolated and identified this unknown type of coronavirus from the patient’s lungs.

An undisclosed number of virologists were escorted from the NML on July 5th of 2019. Then a World Health Organization (WHO) driver carrying coronavirus samples was shot dead in Myanmar. The WHO vehicle was carrying coronavirus samples when it came under attack. This an obvious conflicts of interest. Peter Daszak is the President of EcoHealth Alliance, who left a paper trail of personally providing $600,000 to the Wuhan Laboratory.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984, funded the WIV for dangerous gain-of-function research that makes viruses more lethal and transmissible. Dr. Fauci supports the theory that the virus that causes COVID-19 developed naturally in the wild. Dr. Quay earned his MD and Ph.D. at the University of Michigan, served as a postdoctoral fellow in the chemistry department at MIT with Nobel Laureate H. Gobind Khorana, and spent almost a decade on the faculty of Stanford University. Dr. Quay is also the author of the manuscript, “A Bayesian analysis concludes beyond a reasonable doubt that SARS-CoV-2 is not a natural zoonosis but instead is laboratory derived.”

Anthony Fauci earned a medical degree in 1966 but his bio shows no advanced degrees in molecular biology or biochemistry. Dr. Fauci has reversed himself on many aspects of the pandemic and recently claimed that those who criticize him are “actually criticizing science.” But the most compelling reason to favor the lab leak hypothesis is firmly based in science. In gain-of-function research, a microbiologist can increase the lethality of a coronavirus enormously by splicing a special sequence into its genome at a prime location. Doing this leaves no trace of manipulation. But it alters the virus spike protein, rendering it easier for the virus to inject genetic material into the victim cell. Since 1992 there have been at least 11 separate experiments adding a special sequence to the same location. The end result has always been supercharged viruses.

Jerusalem advances thousands of new homes in Jewish areas of East Jerusalem

Over 1,400 new units planned for area between Har Homa and Givat Hamatos, which critics say would block Bethlehem from capital; over 2,000 more homes okayed in French Hill

A Jerusalem municipal planning committee advances 1,465 housing units in East Jerusalem, in an area that left-wing groups say would make establishing a contiguous Palestinian capital in the city far more difficult.

The new neighborhood is being planned for the land between the Jewish neighborhoods of Givat HaMatos and Har Homa, both of which were themselves controversial due to their location.

Left-wing Israeli groups and Palestinians oppose Israeli construction in East Jerusalem, which they hope will one day become the capital of a Palestinian state. Right-wing Israelis, who oppose Palestinian independence, support an “undivided” Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

According to Peace Now, the planned units would “conclusively prevent territorial contiguity between East Jerusalem Palestinian neighborhoods and Bethlehem.”

The committee’s approval is merely the first stage in the planning process. The proposal will be formally discussed at the Jerusalem District Planning Committee on January 17, 2022; if it passes there, the plan will go on to the “deposit” stage, at which point it will be far more difficult to suspend.

Another 2,092 housing units are advanced in the Jewish neighborhood of French Hill, which also lies over the Green Line.

A genome is a blueprint for the factory of a cell to make proteins. The language is made up of three-letter “words,” 64 in total, that represent the 20 different amino acids. For example, there are six different words for the amino acid arginine, the one that is often used in supercharging viruses. Every cell has a different preference for which word it likes to use most.

In the case of the gain-of-function supercharge, other sequences could have been spliced into this same site. Instead of a CGG-CGG (known as “double CGG”) that tells the protein factory to make two arginine amino acids in a row, you’ll obtain equal lethality by splicing any one of 35 of the other two-word combinations for double arginine. If the insertion takes place naturally, say through recombination, then one of those 35 other sequences is far more likely to appear; CGG is rarely used in the class of coronaviruses that can recombine with CoV-2.

In fact, in the entire class of coronaviruses that includes CoV-2, the CGG-CGG combination has never been found naturally. That means the common method of viruses picking up new skills, called recombination, cannot operate here. A virus simply cannot pick up a sequence from another virus if that sequence isn’t present in any other virus.

Although the double CGG is suppressed naturally, the opposite is true in laboratory work. The insertion sequence of choice is the double CGG. That’s because it is readily available and convenient, and scientists have a great deal of experience inserting it. An additional advantage of the double CGG sequence compared with the other 35 possible choices: It creates a useful beacon that permits the scientists to track the insertion in the laboratory.

Now the damning fact. It was this exact sequence that appears in CoV-2. Proponents of zoonotic origin must explain why the novel coronavirus, when it mutated or recombined, happened to pick its least favorite combination, the double CGG. Why did it replicate the choice the lab’s gain-of-function researchers would have made?

Yes, it could have happened randomly, through mutations. But do you believe that? At the minimum, this fact—that the coronavirus, with all its random possibilities, took the rare and unnatural combination used by human researchers—implies that the leading theory for the origin of the coronavirus must be laboratory escape.

When the lab’s Shi Zhengli and colleagues published a paper in February 2020 with the virus’s partial genome, they omitted any mention of the special sequence that supercharges the virus or the rare double CGG section. Yet the fingerprint is easily identified in the data that accompanied the paper. Was it omitted in the hope that nobody would notice this evidence of the gain-of-function origin?

But in a matter of weeks virologists Bruno Coutard and colleagues published their discovery of the sequence in CoV-2 and its novel supercharged site. Double CGG is there; you only have to look. They comment in their paper that the protein that held it “may provide a gain-of-function” capability to the virus, “for efficient spreading” to humans.

There is additional scientific evidence that points to CoV-2’s gain-of-function origin. The most compelling is the dramatic differences in the genetic diversity of CoV-2, compared with the coronaviruses responsible for SARS and MERS.

Both of those were confirmed to have a natural origin; the viruses evolved rapidly as they spread through the human population, until the most contagious forms dominated. Covid-19 didn’t work that way. It appeared in humans already adapted into an extremely contagious version. No serious viral “improvement” took place until a minor variation occurred many months later in England.

Such early optimization is unprecedented, and it suggests a long period of adaptation that predated its public spread. Science knows of only one way that could be achieved: simulated natural evolution, growing the virus on human cells until the optimum is achieved. That is precisely what is done in gain-of-function research. Mice that are genetically modified to have the same coronavirus receptor as humans, called “humanized mice,” are repeatedly exposed to the virus to encourage adaptation.

The presence of the double CGG sequence is strong evidence of gene splicing, and the absence of diversity in the public outbreak suggests gain-of-function acceleration. The scientific evidence points to the conclusion that the virus was developed in a laboratory.

China Abuses US Diplomats

“Is this just an opportunity for China to mess with our diplomatic personnel by shaming them or embarrassing them?”

Judicial Watch is front and center in the effort to hold the Biden administration accountable throughout the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Last year, Judicial Watch sued the administration for information on the Chinese government’s reported abuse of U.S. diplomatic personnel. Specifically, Judicial Watch sought documents on the Chinese government’s use of anal swabs COVID-19 tests on U.S. diplomats. As Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton states, “is [the use of anal swab testing] just an opportunity for China to mess with our diplomatic personnel by shaming them or embarrassing them?”

This lawsuit forced the release of documents from the State Department that reveal, as Fitton notes, there were concerns in the U.S. Embassy in Beijing about what was going on:

As Fitton comments in the Judicial Watch Weekly Update: it’s disturbing that the Biden administration didn’t seem to do anything about this publicly… Our diplomats were harassed with no pushback…when you realize … that China was … playing games with the United States and international investigators … [and] were targeting their own people to make sure they wouldn’t talk, this is a big issue.”

“Our diplomatic personnel were harassed in a reprehensible way by the Chinese government, and the Biden administration seems to have done little in response – except to cover it up,” Fitton said.

The Biden administration’s “cover up,” Fitton contends, is broadly related to a cover-up of the gain-of-function research carried out by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) prior to the virus’ outbreak. In fact, “as Judicial Watch has uncovered, China was engaged in gain-of-function research thanks to the ‘good offices’ of people like Anthony Fauci and other government agencies who funded it,” Fitton states. “They were very nervous that gain-of-function research resulted in the emergence of COVID.”
