but Moscow isn’t aware of ‘anything criminal’ there

Business that Joe Biden’s son Hunter “had or might have” in Ukraine has nothing to do with Moscow, President Vladimir Putin said, adding that although Hunter made “good money” there, Russia sees “nothing criminal” in it.

“It doesn't concern us. It concerns the Americans and the Ukrainians,” Putin said when asked about Hunter’s business dealings in Ukraine during an interview with Rossiya-1 that was aired late on Sunday.

The Russian president said he is aware of “at least one company” Joe Biden’s son “de-facto headed,” adding that Hunter “apparently made very good money” from this endeavor. Still, Putin said he does not “see anything criminal about it.”

US officials Pompeo, Esper to visit India for annual talks

NEW DELHI — India’s government said Thursday that talks next week with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Defense Mark Esper in New Delhi will cover “all bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.”

The talks are also expected to focus on cooperation in building a free and open Indo-Pacific in view of China’s growing footprint in the region, though India’s External Affairs Ministry spokesman Anurag Srivastava made no mention of China when discussing next week’s meeting at his weekly briefing.

However, Pompeo told reporters in Washington on Wednesday that “I’m sure that my meetings will also include discussions on how free nations can work together to thwart threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party.”

The meetings, which have been held the past two years, bring the foreign and defense ministers of the two countries together for talks. This year’s talks come amid heightened tensions between India and China following a clash on their disputed mountain border.

Last week, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun visited New Delhi and called China “an elephant in the room,” stressing that Washington is keen to advance India’s interests in the region.

Earlier this month, Pompeo met his counterparts from India, Japan and Australia in Tokyo. The four countries together make up the Indo-Pacific grouping known asthe Quad.

The Quad is seen as a counterweight to China, who critics say is flexing its military muscle in the South China Sea, East China Sea, Taiwan Strait and along its northern border with India.

Armenia and Azerbaijan have accused each other of violating the truce in Nagorno-Karabakh with heavy artillery fire. The reports of renewed hostilities came after a new attempt to reach a ceasefire was announced in Washington.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said that Armenian forces had “violated the new humanitarian ceasefire” on Monday by shelling its positions in several locations.

The statement came just minutes after a new ceasefire – a third one agreed for now – was supposed to take effect at 8am local time. It was announced in Washington after Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, met the US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun.

Meanwhile, the army of the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic denied the accusations by the Azerbaijani side. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wrote on social media that his country is observing the ceasefire.

At the same time, the spokesperson for the Armenian Defense Ministry, Shushan Stepanyan, said that Azerbaijani artillery began firing at the positions of the Yerevan-backed Nagorno-Karabakh forces “grossly violating the ceasefire agreement.” Azerbaijan, in turn, insisted it is following the truce.

Three years ago, a new conspiracy theory emerged within the internet’s darkest recesses. Known as QAnon, this outlandish perspective of the world — which includes the claim that countless politicians and celebrities are working in secret with world governments to conceal a rampant international child sex abuse network — has morphed into a movement, making its way into mainstream discourse through targeted messaging to disenfranchised demographics, aligning itself with centuries-old ideological archetypes, engaging in good old fashioned fear-mongering — and systematically targeting Democratic leaders.

While this might seem like a bad electoral strategy to many of us, there are actually over 40 candidates currently running for political office on major party tickets who support QAnon. And, these candidates have experienced landslide voter turnout not in spite of their public support of QAnon, but because of it — making QAnon a serious force in the 2020 US election.

Seeing this unfold has baffled and alarmed experts and observers alike who wonder how a conspiracy theory could become a reputable running platform. But when you take a step back to look at how QAnon emerged, how it captured mass attention, and how it has made its way into the political world, an even darker and more desperate picture of our political landscape emerges.

QAnon’s theories go beyond accusing famous people of paedophilia; the belief is that, even if these household-names are not offenders themselves, they are part of the cabal that's covering it up. But, if this cabal is so clandestine how are its secrets all over the internet? That would be thanks to "Q," the source behind QAnon, who claims to be someone with top security clearance within the US government. And while you might think that someone with the alleged access of "Q" would be a reliable source, QAnon's prognostications have been repeatedly debunked; though, even that hasn’t slowed the spread of the theories.

There's a reason for that, though. Even if nobody knows who the ultra-private "Q" is, the cult of QAnon still has a very public hero: President Donald Trump, who QAnon followers are convinced will arrest all of the alleged wrongdoers and send them to Guantanamo Bay.

If all this sounds like a joke to you, that might be because QAnon was originally never meant to be taken seriously. “QAnon started as a lark on 4Chan where folks were trying to one-up each other pretending to be different public officials, trying to get various conspiracy theories started. To see it actually take hold and become a mass phenomenon was really shocking,” Devin Burghart, President of the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights, explains.

Burghart and his colleagues have been tracking the rise and spread of conspiracy theories and hate groups for years. Likening the theory’s growth in popularity to a logarithmic scale, he admits that he and fellow researchers didn’t think the incredibly far-fetched QAnon theory would ever gain the traction that it did. “Somehow, out of the depths of the darkest regions of 4Chan comes this political phenomenon that has become something different than it started, but has become really a meme that is driving so much political activity.”

One catalyst that ushered QAnon off 4Chan and onto more mainstream platforms was the surge of pro-Trump nationalism which thrived on the kind of archetypal antisemitic tropes that are QAnon's bread-and-butter. QAnon then used antisemitism as a binding agent to get its other ideas to stick to a wider audience.

Republican Ohio House Representative Jim Jordan has slammed Joe Biden for his response to son Hunter Biden's laptop scandal. Jordan blasted the Democratic Presidential nominee for failing to speak on whether the emails, pictures, videos obtained via laptop are authentic or not.

On Sunday, October 25, in an interview with Fox News, Jordan claimed that his staff has independently verified the provocative elements found on the laptop, which was recovered from a repair store in Delaware. "These are real as can be. We have the eyewitness, Mr. [Tony] Bobulinski, who said these are authentic, these are real," He told Fox’s Sunday Morning Futures host Maria Bartiromo.

Earlier this month, Hunter's former business partner, Tony Bobulinski, who was marked as the recipient of an email published by the NY Post that appeared to detail a business arrangement involving a Chinese company and the Bidens, said that the email is "genuine" and provided additional information regarding the Bidens' alleged role in the deal.

The email included a note that "Hunter has some office expectations he will elaborate." A proposed equity split then references ‘20’ for ‘H’ and ‘10 held by H for the big guy?’ with no further details.

"These are authentic, these are real, the big guy in one of these emails does, in fact mean, Joe Biden and [Bobulinski] himself had spoken to former Vice President Biden. So this is as real as it gets, and here’s the fundamental question: Why won’t Joe Biden say they are not real, if they are not accurate if these aren’t accurate emails, why won’t the Bidens say so?" Jordan said.

The controversial emails are still under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation but gave not been officially verifies yet. Joe Biden, who has repeatedly denied his involvement, appeared on Pod Save America episode on Saturday, October 24, where he condemned the attacks made against his son by President Donald Trump, calling it "crass" to go after a rival's family.

As soon as Jordan's statements came to light, people started reacting to it, as one Internet user slammed him and wrote, "Things no one has ever accused Jordan of include being clever." Another one slammed him and wrote, "Notice #GymJordan wasn't concerned about how @realDonaldTrump's kids' activities would affect #Trump?! Because, if they'd gotten in trouble like, stealing from children through their charity, questionable associations with foreign actors or Jr ranting on video cranked on cocaine."

World’s Most Powerful Naval Power – The US Navy Adds More Muscle To Its

Arsenal; Goes Hypersonic

In making a significant policy and operational change to its military doctrine, the US Navy has unveiled plans to equip all its destroyers with hypersonic missiles.

Beset with project cost overruns and delays for quite some time, the US navy is currently faced with an increasingly aggressive and assertive Chinese Navy that has forced it to bring about a big deal of functional improvements to maintain its lead over the arch-rival Russia and the emerging one, China.

Currently, the US Navy with 293 ships is the most formidable naval force in the world. Though very recent estimates suggest that the PLA Navy (China) has 350 battle force ships yet in terms of real power, technological strength, naval airpower, nuclear missiles, submarines, destroyers, global outreach and power projection, the US Navy continues to be the most powerful.

A hypersonic missile is one that exceeds Mach-5 (3800mph) and is at least five times faster than the speed of sound. It is believed to be capable of irregular manoeuvres as against the simple parabolic trajectory of a cruise missile.

Broadly categorized as hypersonic glide vehicles, launched by rockets and hypersonic cruise missiles using ramjet engines while maintaining hypersonic velocities, hypersonic weapons are rewriting the concept of modern warfare at sea.

It is believed that currently there is no functional defence system to stop an incoming hypersonic missile. And only four countries US, Russia, China and India have been able to master this complex technology.

Among the four, China was the first one to operationally deploy its hypersonic missiles DF-17 in October, last year while Russia is understood to have Kinzhal and Zircon hypersonic missiles deployed along with Avangard ICBM in December.

Russian president Vladmir Putin has further indicated that Moscow intends to equip its battleships with hypersonic missiles. India too, is working on hypersonic BrahMos II and successfully tested its HTDV with a speed of Mach-6 recently.

Further, North Korea is also expected to be working on hypersonic missiles and all these developments have affected the very basic security apparatus of the region.

So much so that Japan was forced to rework its 2018 strategy to deploy Lockheed Martin’s Aegis Ashore and is planning to have sea-based defensive platforms to manage the purported threats from North Korea and China, the latter was listed as the main security threat by Japan in 2019 for the first time in the light of incessant Chinese aggressive movements in the region.

Recent reports suggesting the successful testing of Avangard ICBM by Russia, PLA Navy becoming the largest naval force, at least in terms of numbers and the deployment of Chinese DF-17, close to the Taiwan Straits, have made the security scenario in the region all the more critical.

The announcement of the US NSA Robert O’Brien regarding equipping all of the 90-plus US Navy destroyers with hypersonic missiles, need to be seen in this context.

Spelling out the ambitious plan, Robert O’Brien talked about “the navy’s conventional prompt strike program to provide hypersonic missile capability to hold targets at risk from longer ranges.”

He suggested the deployment of hypersonic missiles first on Virginia Class submarines, numbering about 22 in the US Navy to be followed by the most advanced, stealthy Zumwalt Class destroyers. In the final phase, such missiles will be deployed on the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers which are about 62 in the US Navy.

While plans were afoot to equip some of the older 90s Arleigh Burke-class destroyers but putting them on all three flights will be extremely expensive and would require massive financial investments and technical changes to accommodate large diameter missiles. It is also likely to tie the naval shipyards for a long time.

An alternative to back-fitting the older Arleigh Burke-class destroyers has been to go out for a smaller version of hypersonic missile that could be an air-breathing one but that again will take quite some time while Russia and China are moving ahead rapidly with their naval versions of hypersonic missiles.

Some defence analysts have also suggested the use of larger Vertical Launching System cells on the next generation surface battleships under construction in the US.

The US Navy meanwhile is working furiously on light and unmanned vessels equipped with AI that will enhance the navy’s striking capability at far-off places with longer reach without or with minimal likely losses to forces.
