Fox News host Chris Wallace said he's avoided having GOP reps who've espoused false claims about election fraud on his Sunday show.

Speaking to Stephen Colbert on an episode of "The Late Show" that aired Wednesday,

Wallace said he doesn't invite on lawmakers who've questioned the legitimacy of now President Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election.

"I have purposefully not had them on, frankly, because I don't want to hear their crap," Wallace said.

If they do come on the show, Wallace made clear that he intends to hold them accountable.

That includes pressing the lawmakers on whether they truly believe that Biden is the "duly elected president of the United States," he said

Right after Biden won the presidential election in November, then President Donald Trump refused to explicitly acknowledge the victory.

In the hours after the race was called for Biden, Trump said the "election is far from over

In the months that followed, he doubled down on his rhetoric and sought to overturn the results in state and federal courts across the country.

The Trump campaign and the president's allies have filed, and lost, dozens of lawsuits in multiple battleground states contesting the results.

Allegations of voter fraud have been struck down and disproven numerous times since Trump and his lawyers presented their arguments.

Despite no evidence of voter fraud, numerous GOP lawmakers sided with Trump.

About 140 House Republicans indicated they'd vote against Biden's certification in January.

Some senators, like Ted Cruz from Texas, also amplified Trump's baseless claims.

Additionally, Trump supporters adamantly adhered to false claims of voter and election fraud.

Hundreds of Trump supporters descended onto the Capitol on January 6, the scheduled day for Congress to certify the results of the presidential election.

The Capitol riot, which began after Trump encouraged his supporters to protest the results of the election, has been characterized as an attempted coup

The Republicans who've egged on these claims have chosen to "say something they know is not true" to avoid losing out on the Trump voter base,

Wallace told Colbert.

And watching Americans latch on to these ideas during the Capitol riot was horrendous, Wallace said.

"As I'm sitting there and __watching it live on television and seeing this mob coming to the cathedral of our democracy__

and sitting in the chair that the president of the senate sits in and running around the rotunda, I was sickened," he said.

- The Taliban are lying and France will not have any relationship with its newly-formed government,

Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said late on Saturday before heading for talks in Qatar on

to discuss future evacuations from Afghanistan.

"They said they would let some foreigners and Afghans leave freely and (talked) of an inclusive and representative government,

but they are lying," Le Drian said on France 5 TV.

"France refuses to recognise or have any type of relationship with this government.

We want actions from the Taliban and they will need some economic breathing space and international relations.

It's up to them."

Paris has evacuated about 3,000 people and had held technical talks with the Taliban to enable those departures

Le Drian, who is heading to the Qatari capital Doha on Sunday,

said there were still a few French nationals and a few hundred Afghans with ties to France remaining in Afghanistan.

Chinese-controlled company fights Ottawa's order to divest assets on security grounds

OTTAWA — The Liberal government has directed a state-owned Chinese telecommunications firm to divest its stake in a Canadian subsidiary over national security concerns, prompting a court challenge of the order.

China Mobile International Canada is asking the Federal Court to set aside the recent decision, saying the government has no grounds to believe the company would compromise security or engage in espionage on behalf of Beijing.

CMI Canada says the Trudeau government was motivated, at least in part, by "the current political socioeconomic climate and the general biases against Chinese state-owned companies."

The case unfolds amid high tensions between Ottawa and Beijing over China's prolonged detention of Canadian citizens Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor for alleged spying.

China's actions against Spavor and Kovrig are widely seen in the West as retaliation for the late 2018 arrest by Canadian authorities of Meng Wanzhou, an executive with Chinese firm Huawei Technologies, so she can be extradited to the U.S. to face fraud charges.

CMI Canada's application filed this week in Federal Court reveals details of an investment screening case that has quietly unfolded outside the public eye over the last year.

The company, established in 2015, provides mobile communication services, including prepaid call plans, but does not itself own or operate any telecommunications network facilities. Instead, it has partnered with Telus Communications Inc. for provision of wireless services through the Telus network.

CMI Canada says it inadvertently neglected to inform the federal government of its presence as a new Canadian business until October of last year. A series of requests for information from federal officials soon followed.

The Investment Canada Act and the National Security Review of Investments Regulations allow the federal government to scrutinize an investment in Canada by a foreign enterprise.

In January, the government informed CMI Canada of a review on security grounds, saying the investment could result in the Canadian business being leveraged by the Chinese state "for non-commercial purposes, such as the compromise of critical infrastructure and foreign interference, to the detriment of Canada’s national security."

Following additional information exchanges, the government issued an Aug. 9 order directing China Mobile to either divest itself entirely of or wind up the Canadian business within 90 days.

CMI Canada contends the conclusion was "tantamount to speculation about what the Canadian business may do," such as using its supposed access to sensitive information for "military applications or espionage."

The company argues Ottawa could not reasonably have concluded, based on the information available, that the investment would be harmful to Canada's national security.

It says the company does not own nor operate any transmission facilities in Canada, lacks privileged or direct access to any critical infrastructure, and does not have access to any sensitive telecommunications data or personal information, other than basic contact details.

CMI Canada is asking the court to quash the federal decision or, in the alternative, to send the matter back to the government for reconsideration. It also wants the order put on hold pending outcome of the case and any appeals.

If the decision is not stayed, the company will be forced to leave "the Canadian landscape entirely. This would require the termination of its client base and operations," the application says.

The federal government has not yet filed a response and no date has been set for a hearing.

Prince Andrew's lawyers question service of legal documents

— A U.S. court will hold a pretrial conference Monday in the civil suit filed by a woman who claims Prince

sexually assaulted her as the two sides argue over whether the prince was properly served with documents in the case.

Attorneys for the woman, Virginia Giuffre,

say the documents were handed over to a Metropolitan Police officer on duty at the main gates

of Andrew’s home in Windsor Great Park on Aug. 27.

But Blackfords, a law firm that said they represent Andrew “in certain U.K. matters,’’

have questioned whether the papers were properly served and raised the possibility of challenging the court's jurisdiction in the case, according to a Sept. 6 letter referenced in court documents filed by Giuffre’s attorneys.

“We reiterate that our client reserves all his rights, including to contest the jurisdiction of the US courts

(including on the basis of potentially defective service),” they wrote.

A U.S. judge will ultimately determine whether the papers were properly delivered.

Judge Lewis Kaplan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York

will hold the first pretrial conference in the case via teleconference on Monday.

The prince has repeatedly denied the allegations in the lawsuit brought by Giuffre,

a longtime accuser of the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

When the suit was filed last month, legal experts suggested it left Andrew with no good

as the second son of Queen Elizabeth II seeks to repair his image and return to public life.

If the prince tries to ignore the lawsuit, he runs the risk that the court could find him in default and order him to pay damages.

And if he decides to fight, Andrew faces years of sordid headlines as the case winds its way through court.

Guiffre’s attorney, David Boies, said in court documents that it was implausible that Andrew is unaware of the suit.

“Attorneys at Blackfords, who he has apparently instructed to evade and contest service,

have confirmed that Prince Andrew himself already has notice of this lawsuit and is evaluating his chances of success,’’

Boies wrote.

“And even if Blackfords had not confirmed as much, any other conclusion would be

— reputable media outlets around the world reported on the filing of plaintiff’s complaint, and hundreds

if not thousands, of articles about this lawsuit have been published.’’

The lawsuit is another unwanted story for the royals, reminding the public of Andrew’s links to Epstein two years after his death.

Britain’s royal family is also still recovering from allegations of racism and insensitivity leveled at them

by Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, earlier this year.

Winning: Eighteen States Have Passed Election Reform Laws This Year

The laws vary by state and tackle a variety of issues.

Florida’s election integrity bill restricted ballot harvesting which allows campaign operatives to collect large numbers of ballots.

Only immediate family members can now collect ballots.

The Daily Signal reported:

The Florida bill would restrict ballot harvesting, the practice in which campaign operatives collect large numbers of absentee ballots from voters. In 2018, a North Carolina congressional race was voided over a scandal involving ballot harvesting.

The proposed restriction on ballot harvesting would allow a person to collect absentee ballots for immediate family members, but no more than two ballots from those who aren’t family members.

An election integrity law in Arizona banned private money from being used to run elections in the state.

The Daily Signal reported:

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has signed significant election integrity legislation into law.

“With public confidence in our elections in peril, it’s clear our elections must be pristine and above reproach—and the sole purview of government,” Ducey said Friday in a signing letter.

Arizona’s new law prevents private funding from going into elections, such as the $419 million in donations made by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan.

The Zuckerbergs gave a total of $350 million to the Center for Tech and Civic Life, a left-leaning technology group, that in turn issued grants to 2,500 election offices in 49 states. The spending included $5 million for Arizona, according to preliminary data from the Foundation for Government Accountability, The Daily Signal reported March 23.

Here are the 18 states that passed election integrity laws.

It is an absolutely profound honor to address all of you gathered on the National Mall on this very solemn day of remembrance and prayer, as our Nation commemorates the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, a terrible day.

I want to thank Sean Feucht and everyone from the amazing Let Us Worship movement for hosting this very beautiful and incredible event. Since last year, you have brought worship and prayer to 132 cities all across the Country—including the largest church service in America right here in our Nation's capital. By uniting citizens of all denominations and backgrounds to promote faith and freedom in America, you are strengthening our entire Nation and we thank you for it.

There could be no more fitting night for Americans to join hands and bow our heads in prayer than this evening.

Two decades after nearly 3,000 Americans were murdered at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Western Pennsylvania, we honor the memory of every innocent soul killed in the September 11 attacks. We cherish their legacy, and we reaffirm our everlasting vow to Never Forget.

We all remember hearing in the hours and days after the attacks the stories of Police Officers, Firefighters, and First Responders who showed bravery and daring far beyond the call of duty. As a lifelong New Yorker, it was extraordinary to witness the strength and resilience of people of that incredible city, and it is indeed an incredible city. They raced into danger, toward the smoke, without a thought of their own safety. The heroism of the NYPD, the FDNY, the Port Authority Police, as well as the First Responders at the Pentagon, and so many others will live in our national memory for all time.

Tonight, I want to express our thanks to every First Responder present on the National Mall. You are the very best of our Nation. You are incredible people.

I also want to ask every American here today, and all across the Country, to take a moment to share our gratitude for the countless people—active duty Service Members, Veterans, and Military families—who have sacrificed to defend our Country over the past two decades. And let’s especially be thanking and thinking of the brave heroes who served in Afghanistan. They courageously volunteered to hunt down the vile killers who attacked America, and to eliminate the menace of Radical Islamic Terrorism from the face of the earth. And I know what you are thinking because we have suffered a great, great embarrassment over the last week. A terrible thing has happened, terrible decisions were made by this administration. But you are brave, you are incredible, and it will be made up.

Earlier today, members of the Let Us Worship Movement placed flags on the graves of every Service Member in Arlington Cemetery who gave their life for our Nation since September 11. To the Gold Star families present on the Mall, and to the families of all the Service Members who have made the supreme sacrifice in our fight against the terrorist enemy, please know that you have our undying loyalty, our eternal devotion, and the love and support of every single American.

As we pray and reflect on this anniversary, one story from that terrible day points the way forward for our Nation and reminds us of the infinite source of our hope.

As black smoke was billowing from across the Potomac at the Pentagon and the skies of New York were full of ash and flame, a lone figure stood at a window near the base of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Father Mychal Judge was the chaplain of a New York City fire station. When the first plane struck the World Trade Center, he raced inside knowing the danger. Video testimony shows him standing still at the large window, looking up at people falling to their deaths. A friend and fellow priest later recounted that if you watch carefully, you can see the Father's lips moving.

"For those of us who know him," the friend said, "he wasn't one that talked to himself. He was praying.”

Moments later, the South Tower collapsed, and the implosion shattered the glass window and killed Father Mike.

The day before he died, Father Mike spoke at the dedication of a New York City fire station. Before a group of firefighters, he shared a message that echoes across all time.

“You do what God called you to do,” he told them. “You show up. You put one foot in front of the other. You get on the rig and go out and you do the job, which is a mystery. You have no idea what God has calling for you.” You have no idea where you’re going, and in some cases you don’t know why. “But he needs you. He needs me. He needs all of us.”

Tonight, Father Mike's words remind us that in the end, there is only one true answer to the depth and the evil that we saw on September 11, 2001. It is God. That is the answer that stood tall over the wreckage at Ground Zero, where rescuers forged the mighty steel cross from the fallen towers' broken beams. It is the same sight that was seen hundreds of miles away in Shanksville—where the first, spontaneous memorial to the heroes of Flight 93 was a simple, but beautiful, wooden cross. And it is this same turning to God—the ultimate answer to evil—that we see here today, as thousands of Americans gather on the mall to pray for our beloved Nation and to pray for one another.

I want to thank Let Us Worship for calling Americans to 21 days of prayer in the coming weeks. America is a Nation strengthened and sustained by God and the prayers of all His children.

Your faith is a force that our enemies can never ever extinguish. Your love of God, Family, and Country is more powerful than any adversary's hatred, or malice, or scorn.

So as we remember those Americans we lost two decades ago, we return again and again to the same simple prayer that was heard echoing all across our land in the days after the September 11 attacks: God Bless Our First Responders. U.S. Judge Blocks Ohio Judges Order That Hospital Must Treat Covid Patient with Ivermectin Even As Patient is Out of Options

In the world of corruption, an Ohio hospital has won an appeal with a federal judge stating that they can’t be forced to treat a patient with Ivermectin.

The patient in question is on a ventilator and not expected to make it. So instead of trying alternatives, they’d rather just let the patient die. This is absolutely disgusting America.

Judge Gregory Howard had ordered West Chester Hospital to administer the drug ivermectin to Jeff Smith, as prescribed by his physician for 14 days. Now a federal judge has blocked that order, more than likely costing Smith his life.

Smith’s wife, Julie, had filed suite to force the hospital located outside of Cincinnati to begin giving her husband ivermectin. Smith, who’s 51-years-old, had been on a ventilator since August 1.

Judge Michael Oster reversed Howard’s order on Monday.

While “everyone involved wants Jeff Smith to get better,” Oster said, the medical community at large does not advocate the use of ivermectin to treat Covid-19.

“No strong evidence by way of study or data analysis can, at this time, show that ivermectin should be recommended for Covid-19 treatment,” Oster said. “Based on the current evidence, ivermectin is not effective as a treatment for Covid-19.”

Keep in mind the hospital had told Smith’s wife that they couldn’t do anything else for her husband? How is this not criminal America?

UC Health, which runs the West Chester Hospital, welcomed the judge’s ruling.

“We respect the expertise of our clinicians and appreciate the scientific rigor used to develop treatments, medications and other therapies,” UC Health said.

“We do not believe that hospitals or clinicians should be ordered to administer medications and/or therapies, especially unproven medications and/or therapies, against medical advice.”

Ivermectin has been proven to work in countries like India where they prescribed it to their BILLIONS of residents in the largest country in the world and beat the Delta variant in about three weeks. India has a population that’s only 7.9% vaccinated, 68% have the antibodies, and they beat Covid with ease using Ivermectin.

Japan’s top doctor has now also recommended that Ivermectin be used after seeing the results in Africa and other nations.

But of course the FDA, medical community, Democrats, Mainstream Media, and corporate overlords only want to make sure you do what they say or die. It’s really that simple America. There’s no other logic being used here. Remember when President Trump signed the “Right to Try” act, where is that at right now for Americans?

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation purchased over $20 million of stock in an investment fund principally backing Chinese state-owned companies.

Among the companies included in the foundation’s sizable new holding – Morgan Stanley China A Share Fund Inc. – are state-owned banks, energy companies, and manufacturers. The Gates Foundation Trust took the position on August 23rd, purchasing 1,100,000 shares at an average price of $21.

The largest holding in the fund is the state-owned commercial bank Industrial & Commercial Bank of China, which counts high-level Chinese Communist Party apparatchiks as its current and former executives. The partially state-owned China Merchants Bank is also one of the fund’s biggest holdings.

“We seek capital growth by investing in A-shares of Chinese companies listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges,” the fund summarizes.

State-owned companies including beverage maker Kweichow Moutai, China Yangtze Power, and China Resources Sanjiu Medical & Pharmacy also rank in the fund’s top five largest investments.

The investment follows The National Pulse unearthing the Microsoft founder’s ties to Chinese state-run propaganda campaigns, including those obscuring the origins of COVID-19. Gates’s foundation has also collaborated extensively with Chinese state-run scientific organizations tied to the regime’s military.

He has also invested in Chinese state-run power companies flagged as military proxies of Beijing by the U.S. Department of Defense.

Japan inks deal to export defense assets to Vietnam amid China worry

Japan and Vietnam signed a deal Saturday enabling exports of Japanese-made defense equipment and technology to the Southeast Asian country to boost cooperation amid China's rising assertiveness in regional waters.

The accord was inked in Hanoi during Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi's first trip overseas after assuming the post last year. Japan will speed up talks with Vietnam to sell Self-Defense Forces' vessels, Kishi said in an online press conference, following a meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Phan Van Giang. Vietnam, as one of the key members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, is the 11th country to sign such an agreement with Japan, at a time when China is asserting its claims in parts of the East and South China seas. A ministry official said the accord comes as "Vietnam is diversifying its sources of defense equipment." Vietnam has strong defense ties with Russia and relies on it for most of its equipment, including submarines and fighter jets, as it was part of the former Communist bloc during the Cold War. Iran to allow IAEA to service monitor cameras

Iran has agreed to allow the International Atomic Energy Agency to service surveillance cameras at the country's nuclear facilities.

The agreement was announced on Sunday in a joint statement following a meeting between IAEA head Rafael Grossi and Mohammad Eslami, the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization in Tehran. It is Grossi's first visit to Iran since the government led by new President Ebrahim Raisi, an anti-US hardline conservative, was formed in August. Iran agreed with the UN nuclear watchdog in February to preserve the surveillance footage. But an IAEA report, released earlier this month, says that it has no access to the monitoring equipment. The joint statement says IAEA inspectors will be permitted to service the equipment and replace their storage devices. It also notes that the storage media will be kept in Iran under the joint seals of the IAEA and Iran's nuclear agency. Iran has been stepping up its nuclear activities after former US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the 2015 nuclear deal, and re-imposed sanctions against Tehran in 2018.

The steps include enriching uranium to 60 percent purity, a level far beyond limits set under the deal. The agreement on Sunday came ahead of the IAEA's regular meeting of governors, which will begin on Monday. Iran may have taken a cooperative stance in a bid to ease criticism and concern from Western nations.

I think I might have had it Christmas 2019. Low grade fever for days, loss of smell, upper respiratory, patch in lung that took weeks to clear. Abstract

Inflammation is a biological response of the immune system that can be triggered by a variety of factors, including pathogens, damaged cells and toxic compounds. These factors may induce acute and/or chronic inflammatory responses in the heart, pancreas, liver, kidney, lung, brain, intestinal tract and reproductive system, potentially leading to tissue damage or disease. Both infectious and non-infectious agents and cell damage activate inflammatory cells and trigger inflammatory signaling pathways, most commonly the NF-κB, MAPK, and JAK-STAT pathways. Here, we review inflammatory responses within organs, focusing on the etiology of inflammation, inflammatory response mechanisms, resolution of inflammation, and organ-specific inflammatory responses.

INTRODUCTION

Inflammation is the immune system's response to harmful stimuli, such as pathogens, damaged cells, toxic compounds, or irradiation [1], and acts by removing injurious stimuli and initiating the healing process [2]. Inflammation is therefore a defense mechanism that is vital to health [3]. Usually, during acute inflammatory responses, cellular and molecular events and interactions efficiently minimize impending injury or infection. This mitigation process contributes to restoration of tissue homeostasis and resolution of the acute inflammation. However, uncontrolled acute inflammation may become chronic, contributing to a variety of chronic inflammatory diseases [4].

At the tissue level, inflammation is characterized by redness, swelling, heat, pain, and loss of tissue function, which result from local immune, vascular and inflammatory cell responses to infection or injury [5]. Important microcirculatory events that occur during the inflammatory process include vascular permeability changes, leukocyte recruitment and accumulation, and inflammatory mediator release [2, 6].

Various pathogenic factors, such as infection, tissue injury, or cardiac infarction, can induce inflammation by causing tissue damage. The etiologies of inflammation can be infectious or non-infectious (Table ​(Table1).1). In response to tissue injury, the body initiates a chemical signaling cascade that stimulates responses aimed at healing affected tissues. These signals activate leukocyte chemotaxis from the general circulation to sites of damage. These activated leukocytes produce cytokines that induce inflammatory responses [7].

The inflammatory response is the coordinate activation of signaling pathways that regulate inflammatory mediator levels in resident tissue cells and inflammatory cells recruited from the blood [8]. Inflammation is a common pathogenesis of many chronic diseases, including cardiovascular and bowel diseases, diabetes, arthritis, and cancer [9]. Although inflammatory response processes depend on the precise nature of the initial stimulus and its location in the body, they all share a common mechanism, which can be summarized as follows: 1) cell surface pattern receptors recognize detrimental stimuli; 2) inflammatory pathways are activated; 3) inflammatory markers are released; and 4) inflammatory cells are recruited.

Pattern recognition receptor activation

Microbial structures known as pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) can trigger the inflammatory response through activation of germline-encoded pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) expressed in both immune and nonimmune cells [10, 11]. Some PRRs also recognize various endogenous signals activated during tissue or cell damage and are known as danger-associated molecular patterns (DAMPS) [11]. DAMPs are host biomolecules that can initiate and perpetuate a non-infectious inflammatory response [12]. Disrupted cells can also recruit innate inflammatory cells in the absence of pathogens by releasing DAMPs [13].

Classes of PRR families include the Toll-like receptors (TLRs), C-type lectin receptors (CLRs), retinoic acid-inducible gene (RIG)-I-like receptors (RLRs), and NOD-like receptors (NLRs) [5]. TLRs are a family of highly conserved, mammalian PRRs that participate in the activation of the inflammatory response [14]. More than ten members of the TLR family have been identified, and TLRs are the most well-studied of the known PRRs [15]. Transmission of PAMPs and DAMPs is mediated by myeloid differentiation factor-88 (MyD88) along with TLRs. Signaling through TLRs activates an intracellular signaling cascade [16, 17] that leads to nuclear translocation of transcription factors, such as activator protein-1 (AP-1) and NF-κB or interferon regulatory factor 3 (IRF3) (Figure ​(Figure1).1). DAMPs and PAMPs share receptors, such as TLR4, suggesting similarities between infectious and noninfectious inflammatory responses [18, 19].

RESOLUTION OF INFLAMMATION

To prevent progression from acute inflammation to persistent, chronic inflammation, the inflammatory response must be suppressed to prevent additional tissue damage. Inflammation resolution is a well-managed process involving the spatially- and temporally-controlled production of mediators, during which chemokine gradients are diluted over time. Circulating white blood cells eventually no longer sense these gradients and are not recruited to sites of injury. Dysregulation of this process can lead to uncontrolled chronic inflammation [78]. Inflammation resolution processes that rectify tissue homeostasis include reduction or cessation of tissue infiltration by neutrophils and apoptosis of spent neutrophils, counter-regulation of chemokines and cytokines, macrophage transformation from classically to alternatively activated cells, and initiation of healing [79, 80].

Chronic inflammation occurs when acute inflammatory mechanisms fail to eliminate tissue injury [81], and may lead to a host of diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancers [82]. Understanding the common mechanisms that orchestrate dysfunction in the various organ systems will allow for development and production of improved targeted therapies.

Acute and chronic inflammation-mediated tissue injury is observed in many organ systems, including the heart, pancreas, liver, kidney, lung, brain, intestinal tract, and reproductive system.

Lung

Lung inflammatory diseases involve complex interactions among and between structural and immune cells [139]. Lung inflammation results predominantly from tissue exposure to bacterial and viral pathogens, and/or environmental pollutants. Excessive acute inflammation and subsequent lung injury can cause pulmonary fibrosis and impair gas exchange. Unresolved lung injury and chronic inflammation are frequently observed in acute respiratory distress syndrome, cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and asthma [140–142]. Approximately 90% of COPD cases are associated with cigarette smoking-induced inflammation in small airways and lung parenchyma [143]. Cigarette smoking is a major risk factor for COPD, which involves both systemic and pulmonary inflammation. Long-term smoking can cause macrophage, neutrophil, and activated T lymphocyte infiltration into airways, and promote production of chemokines, oxygen radicals, proteases, and cytokines, including that of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8, in the lung [144].
