LONDON (Reuters) - Sterling fell against the dollar on Monday after data showed Britain's economy unexpectedly shrank in April, fuelling uncertainty over how fast the Bank of England can hike interest rates to tame inflation without further hurting growth.
The pound was down 0.58% to $1.2247, its lowest level since May 16, after having already suffered two straight weeks of losses as strong U.S. inflation data boosted the greenback and expectations of monetary tightening by the U.S. Federal Reserve.
Adding to the pressure on the pound, the British government is due to present legislation to unilaterally scrap some of the rules that govern post-Brexit trade with Northern Ireland, a move which is likely to inflame a simmering argument with the European Union.

Food plan for England condemned by its own lead adviser
(First thing you will notice is this ‘adviser’ is a soyboy SJW with a language all his owm. But wait, there are more...)
(PART 1)
Henry Dimbleby says government’s response to his review of food system shows no vision and ‘is not a strategy’
Helena Horton and Peter Walker
Sun 12 Jun 2022 19.01 EDT
Last modified on Mon 13 Jun 2022 00.12 EDT
The government’s LEAD ADVISOR on food issues has condemned what ministers have billed as a landmark national plan to combat food poverty and obesity, saying it is “not a strategy” and warning it could mean more children will go hungry.
Henry Dimbleby’s verdict is further bad news for Boris Johnson as the white paper is a direct response to last year’s wide-ranging review of Britain’s food system, which was led by THE RESTAURATEUR.
Johnson’s plan was billed as the first such blueprint SINCE RATIONING 75 YEARS AGO, (and they brag about that) positioning England as a leader on food and environment in a post-Brexit world. But the final plan strips away many of Dimbleby’s key recommendations.
“It’s not a strategy,” the founder of the Leon food chain said of the final document, which he has been shown. “It doesn’t set out a clear vision as to why we have the problems we have now and it doesn’t set out what needs to be done.”
The document, to be introduced into the House of Commons by the environment secretary, George Eustice, on Monday, is virtually unchanged from a leaked draft revealed by the Guardian last week.
In his document, Dimbleby made a number of high-profile suggestions, including a significant expansion to free school meals, greater environment and welfare standards in farming, and a 30% REDUCTION IN MEAT AND DAIRY CONSUMPTION.
‘Worse than half-baked’: Johnson’s food strategy fails to tackle cost or climate. (Spoken by the fully-baked restaurant owner.)
Instead, the few specific policies chosen by the government include an increase in domestic tomato production, and making it easier for deer stalkers to sell wild venison.
Dimbleby said the cost of living crisis meant there was even more need for free school meals than when he produced his plan, which called for up to 1.5 million more children in England to receive them.
“With inflation as it is, both the amount spent on FREE SCHOOL MEALS is significantly less in real terms than it was a year ago and the number of people who need it is significantly more – we need to tackle that,” Dimbleby said. (He thinks they don’t account for increases in costs yeat to year? And how many students they need meals for?)
“I do hope it is being looked at, people are being inflated into poverty and food providers are being inflated into not producing healthy meals,” he warned.
He was also critical of one thing that did change between the draft seen by the Guardian and the final version, involving the removal of commitments to make it easier to import FOOD WITH HIGH ANIMAL WELFARE AND ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDS.
He said: “Yet again the government has ducked the issue of how we don’t just import FOOD THAT DESTROYS THE ENVIRONMENT and [which] is cruel to animals – we can’t CREATE A GOOD FAIR FARMING SYSTEN- then export those harms abroad. I thought the government would address this but it didn’t.”

=Food plan for England condemned by its own lead adviser=
(PART 2)
Recommendations by Dimbleby on diet and public health, such as USING A SUGAR AND SALT TAX to FUND HEALTHY FOOD OPTIONS for those in poverty, were also ignored, with the issue shunted into an upcoming HEALTH INEQUALITIES white paper. “There was nothing really there on health,” Dimbleby said.
The plan also includes no ambition to reduce meat consumption, with Dimbleby’s report noting that 85% of farmed UK land is used to either grow food for livestock, or to rear meat.
“They have said we need alternative proteins but they have not mentioned the unavoidable truth that the meat consumption in this country is not compatible with a farming SYSTEM THAT PROTECTS AGRICULTURE and SEQUESTERS CARBON,” he said.
Opposition parties also expressed disquiet.
Jim McMahon, Labour’s shadow ENVIRONMENT AND FOOD SECRETARY, said the government had “absolutely no ambition” to tackle crises over food prices. (At least this one is just talking money.) He said: “This is nothing more than a statement of vague intentions, not a concrete proposal to tackle the major issues facing our country. To call it a food strategy is bordering on the preposterous.”
Tim Farron, the rural affairs spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats, said the lack of protections over food standards for imports risked being “an utter betrayal of British farmers”. He said: “Time and again Boris Johnson has promised one thing then gone on to do the opposite. It just shows this government can’t be trusted to stand up for rural communities.”
The FOOD TV PRESENTER and climate campaigner Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall CONDEMNED THE LACK OF ANY PLAN TO REDUCE MEAT AND DAIRY CONSUMPTION, calling this “just lazy and spineless and pandering to the food industry’s status quo”.
Rob Percival, head of food policy at the Soil Association, said: “It seems that what broke this strategy was not a lack of good intent but a “NARROW-MINDED IDEOLOGY WHICH BELIEVES GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT INTERVENE TO RESHAPE DIETS.”
Louisa Casson, ‘HEAD OF FOOD AND FORESTS” Greenpeace UK, added: “By ignoring climate scientists and its own experts in favour of industry lobbyists, the government has published a strategy that, ultimately, will only perpetuate a broken food system and see our planet COOK itself.”
(OMG they asked this nut for his tuppence?)
Announcing the food plan, Johnson called it “a blueprint for how we will back farmers, boost British industry and help protect people against the impacts of future economic shocks by safeguarding our food security”.

*(ANON’S NOTE) Sorry anons. I capitalized some of the more ssliemt Orwellian terminology and effing insanity these nutters espouse. They have their own language snd they walk among us you guys. Absolute effing nutters. You may have heard of functioning alcoholics. Well, this collection of crazies are functioning lunatics. It’s like you’re at a bar and you might exchange a comment or two with some bloke about the news or something. But then he starts to opine on somthing and after trying to understand him you evemtually realize he’s batshit drunk and babbling.
What is more scary about these nuts is not that they exist, and that they BELIEVE their ravings, but that their opinion was even sought after, the idea that these are ‘influencers’ that somebody sought to ask their opinion.
The are crazy and they have plans for you and me.

If you ever wondered how the military is allowed to gather intelligence domestically, read the link below and understand how the military is using ANTIFA to gather intelligence.
Remember ANTIFA is connected to the PKK, the PKK is connected to Obama, Obama is connected to the Muslim brotherhood and SA. Then ANTIFA is also connected to Soros, who's connected to Lord Malloch Brown and Smartmatic. The list goes on and on and on

"Show Trials"
In four days, a Chinese court in Tianjin tried four “subversion” cases at lightning speed, each a tightly-orchestrated affair that lasted only a couple of hours. Family-appointed lawyers were replaced by puppet lawyers that were there to merely stand in as “defense counsel,” to follow the script: no wives, relatives, friends, or free members of the public were allowed in court, or anywhere near the courthouse. Of course, all four were convicted.

Started that last night with the bond mkt hissy fit.
Markets get dumped because the bond market wants moar and this is there way of 'telling' Jerry to raise prime 75bp.
Look at the difference on the 75bp "hike"-it was at 20%...then 25%...and last check last night was 30% and it's now at 34.3%
pb
>>138730, >>138738 Here is the proof they are doing exactly that-demanding a higher rate increase
The 10 year as 3.282%
The markets are down sucking in moar shorts so Jerry and the boys can 'rescue' them on Weds-remember at the last press conference he stated "75bp is off the table"-well (((they))) just put it back starting last night.
We were at 2.24% on the 10s at the last meeting in March >>130669 pb
Bunch of fuggen babies crying for mommy to save them.
Markets getting crushed because they, FOMC might just cave and do 75bp because that is what all this movement is showing.
They sky'd the markets last time when Jerry said "no way we are doing 75bp". It dropped hard the next day.
Still think it's the bear trap setup (and that takes time to do)-they can't talk about the rates now as the FOMC are embargoed which is why they pushed out Bernancke and Summers on the talk shows yesterday so all a game to get moar from Prime and load up moar shorts imo.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Garden_Plot
Garden Plot
The Department of Defense Civil Disturbance Plan, also known by its cryptonym GARDEN PLOT, was a general US Army and National Guard plan to respond to major domestic civil disturbances within the United States.[1] The plan was developed in response to the civil disorders of the 1960s and fell under the control of the U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM). It provided Federal military and law enforcement assistance to local governments during times of major civil disturbances.
The Garden Plot plan—drafted after the Watts, Newark, and Detroit riots—captures the acrimonious times when the document was drawn up. The "Plot" warns against "racial unrest," as well as "anti-draft" and "anti-Vietnam" elements."[2]
The Pentagon activated Garden Plot to restore order during the 1992 Los Angeles Riots.[3] Garden Plot was superseded by USNORTHCOM Concept Plan (CONPLAN) 2502 following the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.[4][5] Under Homeland Security restructuring, it has been suggested that similar models be followed.
Oversight of these homeland security missions should be provided by the National Guard Bureau based on the long-standing Garden Plot model in which National Guard units are trained and equipped to support civil authorities in crowd control and civil disturbance missions.
— Major General Richard C. Alexander, ARNGUS (Ret.), Executive Director, National Guard Association of the United States, Testimony in the Senate Appropriations Committee Hearing on Homeland Defense, April 11, 2002[6]

People Urged To Evacuate As Out-Of-Control Wildfire Burns Near Flagstaff
An out-of-control wildfire that burns six miles north of Flagstaff, Arizona, has promoted evacuations for hundreds of people. According to CNN, thousands could be placed under mandatory evacuation orders imminently.
The Flagstaff Fire Department and the National Forest Service said the fire was first reported early Sunday morning and has exploded in size, increasing to more than 4,500 acres. Coconino County spokesman Trey Williams said 690 households had been ordered to evacuate, and another round of evacuations could be looming. He said an additional 2,410 households had been put on notice.
We are tracking several large wildfires in the western U.S. Coconino County spokesman Trey Williams said 690 households had been ordered to evacuate, and another round of evacuations could be looming. He said an additional 2,410 households had been put on notice. Currently the #PipelineFire in Arizona and the #SheepFire in California have forced evacuations. @KatieGarnerTV explains more.

A 57yo man was arrested in connection with the fire, the Coconino County Sheriff's Office said in a press release, adding he has been charged with federal natural resource violations.
"The investigation into the cause of the Pipeline Fire is ongoing and, in order to protect the integrity of the investigation, we cannot discuss any details of the investigation," said patrol Capt. Andy Pederson. The fire is expected to spread Monday. The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for the area amid drought and sustained winds of 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph.

About 300 firefighters are battling the blaze. Eight air tankers, five helicopters, 13 engines, and nine crews have been deployed. The latest fire comes after a wildfire in April scorched 19,000 acres 14 miles northeast of Flagstaff. Severe drought conditions in the western half of the US have helped accelerate wildfires this year. The National Interagency Fire Center reports that 24 large fires have burned 776,748 acres in five states (as of June 9). So far this year, 29,050 wildfires have burned 2,083,238 acres, with at least 95% of the fires being caused by people.

Stocks Open With 5th Largest 'Sell Program' In History; Bonds, Bitcoin, & Bullion All Battered
US cash equity markets opened with no panic-bid, instead being met with a wall of selling after the ugly overnight futures session. The selling wave was almost unprecedented, with a TICK below -2000 - the fifth largest 'sell program' in history. As Bloomberg notes, sell programs of this size are typically not single events. They tend to happen in clusters and that probably means stocks might be in store for bigger losses. Like when you are trying to do this on purpose into an FOMC meeting so you can "arrive" to save it?-you mean like that?
This puke sent the S&P 500 to the lows of the year and into bear market territory. Gold topped $1880 briefly then plunged back below $1840. The yield curve (2s10s) briefly inverted this morning, as the short-end underperforms (but the entire Treasury market is getting hammered)...And credit markets are really hemorrhaging with IG credit crashing back to its COVID lockdown spike lows. The last time credit markets puked like this, The Fed turned up the intervention amplifier to '11'. Is that a silver lining? A few ticks lower and Powell throws in the towel - the Fed will not risk a depression... or will he? The market is starting to capitulate on the hope of an imminent Fed Put for now...
Capitulate?-not even close....how old are you like 30?

Ukraine war: Russia earns $97bn on energy exports since invasion
Russia earned nearly $100bn (£82.3bn) from oil and gas exports during the first 100 days of the war in Ukraine, according to a report.
Revenues have been falling since March, as many countries shunned Russian supplies, but remain high, the independent Centre For Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) found. It also warned of potential loopholes in efforts to curb imports from Russia. The EU, US and UK are among those to have pledged to cut Russian imports. But the CREA report found Russia still earned $97bn in revenue from fossil fuel exports in the first 100 days of the Ukraine conflict, from 24 February to 3 June. The European Union made up 61% of these imports, worth approximately $59bn. Overall, exports of Russian oil and gas are falling and Moscow's revenue from energy sales has also declined from a peak of well over $1bn a day in March.
But revenues still exceeded the cost of the Ukraine war during the first 100 days - with the CREA estimating that Russia is spending around $876m per day on the invasion. The EU plans to ban Russian oil imports arriving by sea by the end of 2022, which would cut imports by two-thirds. However, so far it has been unable to agree on an outright ban.
Meanwhile, the US has declared a complete ban on Russian oil, gas and coal imports. The UK is to phase out Russian oil imports by the end of the year. The CREA report said the EU's planned oil embargo would have a significant impact.
But it warned large quantities of Russian crude oil were now being shipped to India, which increased its share of Russia's total crude exports from around 1% before the invasion of Ukraine to 18% in May. The report said a "significant share" of this was being refined and sold on - often to customers in the US and Europe - which it described as "an important loophole to close". It added that strong sanctions against tankers transporting Russian crude would significantly limit the scope for this practice. The report points out that as Russia seeks new markets for oil, much of it is being transported by ship - and the majority of the vessels used are owned by European and US companies.
As well as India, other countries that increased imports of Russian fuel included France, China, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, the report said.

German govt declines to confirm Olaf Scholz will go to Kyiv Rzesow Airprot on Thursday
A German government spokesperson declined to confirm a media report on Monday that Chancellor Olaf Scholz would travel to Kyiv on Thursday with French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
Online magazine Focus, citing Italian newspaper La Stampa, earlier reported that the three European leaders would travel to the Ukrainian capital on Thursday, adding a specific date to a Bild am Sonntag report on Sunday that they planned to go before a Group of Seven summit at the end of June. ”We still do not confirm that,” the spokesperson said. Scholz, who has not been to Kyiv since the start of the war, has faced criticism abroad for his caution in supplying Ukraine with heavy arms such as tanks and howitzers, and has been forced to reject criticism that Berlin is not showing leadership. At home, frustration has also grown among Scholz’s junior coalition partners over what they say are shortcomings in his leadership on Ukraine, an internal rift that risks undermining Western unity against Russia.

I get “sticky” posts where I have posted something but the COMMENT field still has my last post showing. And, the REPLY button won’t reset but says ‘downloading’. It requires me to refresh, which sometimes causes the page to not reload properly so that I can’t reply to another post or GO TO BOTTOM etc. I then have to leave entirely to attempt a return to the bread. Sometimes doing that fails and the bread will not load. Then I leave Kun. Then I delete my cache again. Can be very frustrating. I probly should mention am phonefagging.

2nd Look at Local Housing Markets in May, New Listings picking up
This is the second look at local markets in May. I’m tracking about 35 local housing markets in the US. Some of the 35 markets are states, and some are metropolitan areas. I’ll update these tables throughout the month as additional data is released.
We are seeing a significant change in inventory, and maybe a pickup in new listings. So far, most of the increase in inventory has been due to softer demand - likely because of higher mortgage rates - but we need to keep an eye on new listings too. On a national basis, we saw record low inventory levels over the Winter. Last year, inventory didn’t bottom seasonally until early April. This year inventory bottomed in February (normal seasonal timing), and recent data from Altos Research and Realtor.com, indicate active inventory was up year-over-year in May. I expect the local market reports will show inventory up year-over-year in May too. Here is a summary of active listings for these housing markets in May. Inventory usually increases seasonally in May, so some month-over-month (MoM) increase is not surprising.
Inventory in these markets was down 18% YoY in February, down 10% YoY in March, up 1% YoY in April, and up 17% YoY in May! So, this is a significant change from earlier this year.
This is another step towards a more balanced market, but inventory levels are still historically low. Not for long
Notes for all tables: New additions to caps in BOLD.
Northwest (Seattle), North Texas (Dallas) and Santa Clara (San Jose), Mid-Florida (Tampa, Orlando), Jacksonville, Source: Northeast Florida Association of REALTORS®
Totals do not include Denver or Atlanta (included in state totals).
New Listings in May
And here is a table for new listings in May. For these areas, new listings were up 5.0% YoY.
Last month, new listings in these markets were down 6.2% YoY. This could be a significant change, and the first sign of a pickup in new listings. If new listings increase, combined with less demand, we will see active inventory increase quickly-Protip: All but assured-this is just the start of it.
Closed Sales in May
And a table of May sales. Sales in these areas were down 5.5% YoY, Not Seasonally Adjusted (NSA).

Charles Schwab to pay $187 million to settle SEC charges that it misled robo-advisor clients on fees
Charles Schwab agreed to pay $187 million to settle an SEC investigation into alleged hidden fees charged by the firm’s robo-advisor, Schwab Intelligent Portfolios, according to an agency announcement on Monday.
“Robo-advisor” is shorthand for a digital investment service that uses algorithms to judge how to allocate individuals’ money among asset classes such as stocks, bonds and cash.
From March 2015 through November 2018, Schwab didn’t disclose to clients that its robo-advisor allocated funds “in a manner that their own internal analyses showed would be less profitable for their clients under most market conditions,” the SEC claimed. As part of the settlement, three Schwab subsidiaries — Charles Schwab & Co., Charles Schwab Investment Advisory and Schwab Wealth Investment Advisory — agreed to pay a $135 million civil penalty and another $52 million in disgorgement and interest to affected clients.
In a statement issued Monday, Schwab neither admitted nor denied the allegations and said the firm is “pleased to put this behind us.”
“We believe resolving the matter in this way is in the best interests of our clients, company and stockholders as it allows us to remain focused on helping our clients invest for the future,” according to the statement. “As always, we are committed to earning our clients’ trust every day and work diligently to maintain the highest standards for professional conduct throughout our organization.” Robo-advisors are getting more popular. They began appearing around 2008, during the advent of the iPhone and an ascendant digital culture. They may soon hold more than $1 trillion of Americans’ wealth.
The dynamic outlined by the SEC was due to an undisclosed “cash drag” on Schwab client portfolios, the agency said.
Cash generally yields lower returns than stocks, for example, during periods of low interest rates and a rising stock market, as was the directional trend over 2015-2018.
Schwab advertised that clients’ cash allocations were determined by strict portfolio methodology that sought optimal returns, according to the SEC. But the firm’s data showed that the cash allocations would lead clients to make less money for the same amount of risk in most circumstances, the SEC said.

Musk Says Q2 Has Been A "Tough Quarter" For Tesla In Internal Email
Elon Musk is apparently already lamenting what is going to a "tough quarter" for the company - though warnings like these in the past have sometimes appeared to be Musk setting low expectations for the market so the company's numbers simply don't look as bad.
We won't know until Tesla reports its Q2, but for now one of the company's patented leaked internal emails reportedly contains Musk warning his workers that the EV maker needs to get "back on track", according to a Monday morning Bloomberg wrap up. The email reportedly says: “This has been a very tough quarter, primarily due to supply chain and production challenges in China. So we need to rally hard to recover!” Recall, we just highlighted a Wedbush note from Dan Ives last month that said Tesla's shutdown in China was an "epic disaster" for its June quarter. Ives said he expects to see "modest delivery softness".
Ives also said he is expecting a "slower growth trajectory" in China into the second half of the year and called the headwinds out of Asia "hard to ignore". He also commented that the ongoing Twitter drama "may be a distraction" for Musk at a time when his attention should be focused on dealing with Tesla's issues.
Recall, we noted weeks ago that "no vehicles were sold in Shanghai last month [April]" as a result of the lockdown, according to an auto-seller association in the city. Additionally, it was reported last month that Tesla would be recalling over 100,000 vehicles in China. 107,293 vehicles in China will be recalled "due to safety risks", according to the China People's Daily. The recall, which relates to a defect in the central touchscreen during fast charging, "involves Model 3 and Model Y vehicles produced in the country between Oct 19, 2021, and April 26, 2022," the report said.

I'm gonna add here that the AH (after hours) and PM (pre-market) trading session are almost exclusively the domain of the Big Bois because there are NO market orders here-NONE. You, as a retail trader cannot just 'go in' and say I want to buy or sell XXX at market. You have to look at the order books to see what is on 'offer' and at what size (share lots) and your order MUST match THAT so if you see 200 shares of the SP Minis on offer at a specific price YOUR order MUST reflect that or you get nothing. Those sessions are thin (little depth) and (((they))) know this so that is why they sent them down on a Sunday night when no one was really looking because peeps are still busy with 'weekend' activities. The big bois then opened up the regular session with the 5th largest sell program EVER-so that the dump continued >>138812

Treasury ComplexHissy fit Sunday evening on the 2 year that told Jerry and the Bois "we want a shrubbery and we want it at 75bp"-well the CME FedWatch futures went from 20% chance of that to 35% in a few hours and currently they have backed off from the $30% level and at 2pm EST they are at 28.4% for a 75bp hike...so that means that the markets have bottomed for the time being-the LOD on them so far was at 11:00am or so (+/-) a few minutes and that is what backed off. This is NOT capitulation as some articles are suggesting-when you see circuit breaker days and shut offs for a few days then you'll see it-not even close at this pointand all very orderly. The damage (spiking yields) was done last night on the 2yr which then worked it's way to the 10 yr so pretty much kept climbing though and at 1pm EST it was at 3.347%+0.184 and the 2 year (the hissy fit) right behind it at 3.237%+0.168. Summary:
FOREX-US$, Ruble, Yen, Pound, EUROUS $ rocked higher last night and continued to do so throughout our session and about an hour before our close it was at just under it's HOD from not long ago $104.96+0.81 0.78%. The Yen still hovering around 134 and nuffin 134.20-0.21 -0.16%. Our $ goes up and guess what drops hard?...the Pound 1.2150-0.0166 -1.35% and the total garbage that the Euro is: 1.0433--0.0087 -0.83%
'''These will move by the time I get to cap #4 on our close-but not by much.
You can see the FOREX performance in cap #4 and a dropping Pound is good for the peeps of the UK but the $ rising is NOT good for us.
MetalsTotal SMACKAGE see here for that starting right on theNYNEX open-cause that makes total sense-but this is nothing new >>138805 Ag -0.83 -3.77% Au-43.60 -2.33% and already 50k Ag contracts two hours into the NYMEX session, 174k on Au. El Shitshow and when the pitch forks and torches come out in front of the CME Group in that bastion of manipulation Chicago -COUNT ME IN!!! Gold Futs settled at a 3 week again moar totally natural action-they are taking out the space they will need for when they fold on Weds and raise rates 75bp and then say "they've got it" and a complicit financial media will say "good show!!". It's print price for the day was $1,831.80 $43.70-2.3% and Ag got whacked even moar at $21.23--0.701 -3.20%-so we've now got $21.50 as a resistance point instead of support-Thanks a Bunch Private Advisors!! As it looks like you 'declined' to add moar SLV at $21.50....in on this manipulations game just like all the rest.
Oil/Energy>>138811, >>138835 here is your Oil price spike news and sicne we get sooo much from Libya.../s the price of WTI spikes-they put about 1m barrels per day into the total supply-well cause they can: Libya shuts down nearly all its oil fields, putting further strain on an already under-supplied oil market. Except it's NOT under-supplied they are only giving it the illusion that it is because China's consumption is WAY down-all this is doing-HOPEFULLY-is showing regular peeps that don't know that the price of Oil (and everything else) is completely MANIPULATED by contracts bought and sold via the CME Group-COMEX so there is very little, if any, physical ANYTHING traded via this method. It closed with out markets at ''' Nattty gas was up and made another stab at $9 but repelled because people are now ramping up the AC usage (Electricity) and using less gas. There is a heatwave in Texas "Power demand in Texas hit an all-time high on Sunday and will likely break that record on Monday" U.S. gas futures were up about 137% so far this year as much higher prices in Europe and Asia keep demand for U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports strong

The Fed May Discusswill make FIFY it's Biggest Interest Rate Increase Since 1994
The Federal Reserve is likely to discuss will make its biggest interest-rate increase since 1994 when policymakers meet this week, as a range of new data suggest that inflation is coming in hotter and proving more stubborn than they had hoped.
The central bank will probably contemplate whether to raise interest rates by three-quarters of a percentage point on Wednesday, when they are set to release both their decision and a fresh set of economic projections. The Fed raised rates by half a percentage point in May and officials had suggested for months that a similar increase would be warranted at their meetings in June and July if data evolved as expected. But inflation data has not come in as anticipated. Instead, a report last week showed that inflation re-accelerated in May and is running at the fastest pace since 1981. Two separate measures of inflation expectations, one out last week and one released Monday, showed that consumers are beginning to anticipate notably faster price increases.
That is sure to increase the sense of unease at the Fed, which is trying to quash high inflation before it changes behavior and becomes a more permanent feature of the economic backdrop. And the string of glum news has caused economists and investors alike to bet that the central bank will begin to raise interest rates at a more rapid clip to signal that it recognizes the problem and is making fighting inflation a priority. “They’ve made it pretty clear that they want to prioritize price stability,” said Pooja Sriram, U.S. economist at Barclays. “If that is their plan, a more aggressive policy stance is what they need to be doing.”
Wall Street is bracing for interest rates to rise more than investors had anticipated just days ago, a reality that is sending stocks plummeting and is causing other markets to bleed. Investors now expect rates to climb to a range of 2.5 to 2.75 percent as of the Fed’s September gathering, suggesting central bankers would need to make one three-quarter-point move over the course of its next three meetings. The Fed hasn’t made such a large move since the early 1990s, and that 2.75 percent upper limit would be the highest the federal funds rate has been since the global financial crisis in 2008. When the Fed lifts its policy interest rate, it filters through the economy to make borrowing of all kinds — including mortgage debt and business loans — more expensive. That slows down the housing market, keeps consumers from spending so much and cools off corporate expansions, weakening the labor market and broader economy.hello this was already habbening before this was even being considered...it's just you "academics" are paid to NOT see itSlower demand can help price pressures to ease as fewer buyers compete for goods and services. But interest rates are a blunt tool, so it is difficult to slow the economy with precision. Likewise, it is tough to predict how much conditions need to cool to bring inflation down convincingly. Supply issues tied to the pandemic could ease, allowing for a deceleration. But the war in Ukraine and China’s newly reimposed lockdowns meant to contain the coronavirus could keep prices elevated. Muh insane in the Ukraine and China excuse(s)
That is why investors and households increasingly fear that the central bank will set off a recession. Consumer confidence is plummeting, and a bond-market signal that traders monitor closely suggests that a downturn may be coming. '''The yield on the 2-year Treasury note, a benchmark for borrowing costs, briefly rose above the 10-year yield on Mondaythat 's what was shown last night...thanks! >>138725That so-called inverted yield curve, when it costs more to borrow for shorter periods than longer periods, typically does not happen in a healthy economy and is often taken as a sign of an impending downturn.

30-Year Mortgage Rates Increase to 6.13%
Bonds are in the midst of a full-blown capitulation move with 10yr yields currently up over 16bps at 3.32%. MBS are down roughly a full point. These aren't the biggest losses we've ever seen in a day, but they're extraordinarily big losses to be experiencing at the top of trend that has already covered as much ground as the one seen so far in 2022.
...
Long story short, the market is freaked out about what Friday means for the policy outlook. Wednesday continues to be one of the biggest flashpoints for bond volatility we've seen in a long time. JPMorgan, Goldman Halt Russian Debt Trading After US Tightens Ban
Two giant Wall Street banks are withdrawing from handling trades of Russian debt after the Biden administration’s surprise announcement last week it’s banning US investors from scooping up such assets.
JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. were still matching sellers who wanted out of the debts with interested buyers this month, according to market professionals. Now, JPMorgan is pulling back after the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control said investors in the U.S. aren’t allowed to acquire them, a person with knowledge of the decision said. A spokesperson for Goldman said it’s halting such transactions, too. “Consistent with the updated OFAC guidance and Goldman Sachs’ wind-down of activities in relation to Russia, the firm will no longer be conducting certain client-related market making activities regarding Russian entities,” the bank said in the statement. The Treasury Department’s announcement late June 6, stepping up financial sanctions, caught market participants off guard and set off a flurry of talks with lawyers. Earlier policies from the US had allowed trading shops including Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan to help clients pounce on cheap Russian debt in the secondary market as many holders rushed to unload the assets. Now, US market participants are prohibited from purchasing both new and existing debt and equity securities issued by a Russian Federation entity. Banks routinely scoop up debt because clients asked them to, or because they expect to find ready buyers. When Goldman and JPMorgan’s activity in the market came to light earlier this year, they said they were helping clients reduce exposure. The updated guidance means US investors can still sell or hold Russian debt, but they can’t acquire more, a spokesperson for OFAC said last week.
The Ukraine invasion initially sent prices of Russia-linked bonds tumbling, even if they weren’t subject to international sanctions. The continued trading of such securities soon became a contentious topic, both on Wall Street and in Washington, where Senator Elizabeth Warren accused banks of undermining sanctions. Warren and Representative Katie Porter, a fellow Democrat, urged JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs last month to hand over names of clients trading such securities -- a demand that threatened to widen the spotlight from banks to the broader universe of hedge funds and other investors who jumped in to turn a quick profit.
Even in the distressed-debt market, where sudden price slumps draw vulture investors seeking to ride a rebound, the wagers on Russia-linked debt had stoked a considerable behind-the-scenes debate among industry professionals. Banks also reaped profits from pitching a popular trade in the weeks following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine -- the so-called basis trade where investors buy both the bonds and credit default swaps.

Goldman Joins 75bps Rate Hike Bandwagon, Warns It Will Trigger Recession
First JPM, and now Goldman has fallen in line and following the unexpected reversal from WSJ Fed-whisperer, Nick Timiraos, the vampire squid not only also expects the Fed to hike 75bps on Wednesday, but warns that by doing so the Fed "risks" sparking a recession, which of course is not a risk but is precisely what the Fed is aiming at at this point because as we explained yesterday, the deterioration in the labor force absent a recession would be too slow to resolve the inflation problem in the near term.
Goldman's Jan Hatzius, who hardly enjoys being upstaged by a Millennial Hilsenrath-wannabe reporter, first throws shade at Timiraos, saying that his report from earlier today, which we profiled previously, and according to which Fed officials are likely “to consider surprising markets with a larger-than-expected 0.75-percentage-point interest rate increase at their meeting this week” is a "departure" from another article that Timiraos published just yesterday that characterized such a move as “unlikely.”
not a surprise bro...you should have looked in here last night
As such, Goldman's best guess is "that the article is a hint from the Fed leadership that a 75bp rate hike is coming at the June FOMC meeting on Wednesday." In other words, this is just the latest confirmation of what everyone long suspected, that the WSJ is the Fed's media conduit, just as Citadel is its markets conduit. It also confirms that the Fed really has no idea what it is doing, and is literally making up policy from one day to the next. In any case, now that all this new Fed information has come to light, and which was likely prompted by "the upside surprise in the May CPI report and the further rise last Friday in the Michigan consumer survey’s measures of long-term inflation expectations that has likely been driven in large part by further increases in gas prices", Goldman has joined JPM in immediately revising its forecast to include 75bp hikes in June and July. This would quickly reset the level of the funds rate at 2.25-2.5%, the FOMC’s median estimate of the neutral rate. Goldman then expects a 50bp hike in September and 25bp hikes in November and December, for an unchanged terminal rate of 3.25-3.5%. This is less relevant as by then the US will be in a deep recession.
Separately, Goldman is also revising its forecast of the dot plot, and now expects the median dot to show 3.25-3.5% at end-2022, and also expects the median dot to show two further hikes in 2023 to 3.75-4%, followed by one cut in 2024 to 3.5-3.75%. Again, what happens in 2024 and 2023 is irrelevant.

Christopher Sign, Alabama news anchor who broke Clinton tarmac story, dead at 45
By Sam Raskin and Aaron Feis June 13, 2021 8:36am Updated
The Alabama TV anchor who broke news of the infamous 2016 “tarmac meeting” between former President Bill Clinton and then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch died Saturday in an apparent suicide, according to reports and his employer.
Christopher Sign, 45, was found dead by Hoover, Ala., police around 8:13 a.m. Saturday after cops received a call of “a person down” at his Scout Trace home, according to Al.com. The former college football player’s death is being investigated as a suicide, Hoover Lt. Keith Czeskleba said, according to the outlet.
“Chris was a tremendous leader in our newsroom,” wrote ABC 33/40, Sign’s outlet, in a Saturday tribute to the reporter.
“He worked with our reporting staff on a daily basis, but also worked behind the scenes with the I-Team and with news managers on coverage of major events,” the obituary continued. “You were very likely to get an email from him with a story idea in the middle of the night. He was passionate about journalism and showed it each and every day as he pushed himself and his colleagues to be the best.”
Sign had three sons with his wife, Laura, whom he met at the University of Alabama in the 1990s, where he manned the offensive line for the school’s football squad and she starred as an All-SEC volleyball player, according to the local ABC affiliate.
Sign’s Instagram account told the story of a devoted dad, with photos showing him spending quality time with his family as recently as last week.
Jamie Hale, the network’s sports anchor, tweeted the sad story with a message of grief.
“I can’t believe we have an article with this title,” she wrote Saturday. “It doesn’t feel real. We were in the office together last night cutting up like we always do.
“I don’t understand why,” Hale continued. “I can’t talk about you in the past tense. The grief today is unbearable.”
Eric Land, the vice president and general manager of ABC 33/40, issued a statement echoing the heartbreak.
“Our deepest sympathy is shared with Christopher’s loving family and close friends,” he said.
The Dallas-area native headed to Alabama in 2017 to anchor the ABC station’s evening news show, after working for a TV station in Phoenix.
While there, Sign broke the major 2016 presidential campaign news that Bill Clinton met with Lynch on the tarmac of Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport while the then-AG was investigating the use of a private email server by Hillary Clinton, the former president’s wife and the Democratic presidential candidate at the time.
Sign went on to write a book about the encounter titled “Secret on the Tarmac.”
“We knew something had occurred that was a bit unusual,” Sign told “Fox & Friends” in February 2020, ahead of the book’s release. “It was a planned meeting. It was not a coincidence.”
Sign went on to tell Fox that the investigation made his life a living hell, with his family receiving death threats.
“My family received significant death threats shortly after breaking this story,” he said. “Credit cards hacked. You know, my children, we have code words. We have secret code words that they know what to do.”

Gaffe or message? Kuroda remark on prices hints at BOJ's plans-they have none and are stuck
It all began with a June 6 speech at a Kyodo News-organized event where he said that "Japanese households' tolerance of price rises has been increasing."
Mkt Fag "You seemed to have missed that that he also came here (to the US) a few weeks ago begging Janet for an intervention but I guess that doesn't matter....pleas continue.
Godzilla""That's right nikkas he went to Columbia University to give a speech but he made a stop off at Janet's house crying like a pussy and they can just sit tight as our interest rates rise and that makes the Yen-carry trade via the Reverser Repo moar attractive for you nikkas." Mkt Fag " You mean the money printers at teh NYFRB...". Godzilla:" oh yeah right I forgot that casue if you try that on the retail level you'll be starting off at about minus 10-15% before you even pull off a trade when you factor taxes and all the fuggen fee's,"
Mkt Fag" Yes I am well aware of that Godzilla I looked into that a number of years ago and unless you can just carry out (physically) a ton of cash that is about where you start."
Japan's Inflation Dynamics and the Role of Monetary PolicySpeech at Columbia University in New York
https://www.boj.or.jp/en/announcements/press/koen_2022/ko220423a.htm/
Kuroda turned to a survey by University of Tokyo economics professor Tsutomu Watanabe to illustrate his point. When asked how they would respond to a 10% price hike at the supermarket they frequent, more Japanese households said they would "accept the price increase and continue to buy the same amount at the same supermarket" than in a previous survey, Kuroda said. Japan's consumer price index rose more than 2% on the year in April, meeting the BOJ's target for the first time in more than seven years. Supply-side constraints due to the recent lockdowns in China pose risks for a Japanese economy that has struggled to fully bounce back from the coronavirus. "The top priority for the bank is to persistently continue with the current aggressive monetary easing," Kuroda said, reiterating the BOJ's official position that a debate on scaling back would still be premature. Such speeches are carefully drafted ahead of time by the BOJ's Monetary Affairs Department, which is responsible for crafting the bank's policies. The June 6 remarks were no different. The term "tolerance," despite triggering backlash this time around, had also been used by the BOJ on multiple occasions before. Kuroda did not need to touch on price increases if he had simply been interested in justifying continued easing by the BOJ. Watanabe's survey suggested that a series of corporate price hikes have shifted how Japanese consumers view price levels. Kuroda's prepared speech included a section labeled "Signs of Changes in Inflation Expectations." But Japanese wages have not kept up with inflation Mecha-Godzilla:" oh big fuggen surprise there..".''' Cash earnings per capita fell 1.2% on the year in real terms this April, according to the government's Monthly Labor Survey. In his speech, Kuroda hypothesized that so-called forced savings from pandemic restrictions may have led to a higher tolerance for price hikes.
Godzilla:"HFS shit he actually said that...by not spending money and "saving" it during the lockdowns he thinks that the avg Japanese citizen will accept price hikes because they are just "swimming in savings"...JFC how THIS guy is still in charge..".
The question is how Japan, "while households are acceptant of price rises due to factors such as forced savings, can maintain a favorable macroeconomic environment to the extent possible and make this lead to a full-fledged rise in wages," he said. Kuroda later backpedaled on his remarks. At a Monday meeting of the upper house Budget Committee, the governor said he understood that "households are being forced to make the difficult choice to accept" higher prices.
Mecha-Godzilla:" WHAT A FUGGEN RETARD...of course they have to "acccept it" what is the alternative...FUQ this I'm gonna go take the out right FUGGEN now." Mkt Fag:"Patience Mecha-Godzilla...they need to be "in-charge" when it all goes pear-shaped...just like I told Godzilla not to take out the COMEX as the people that "run" it need to go down with the ship...Ok". Mecha-Godzilla:"Ok can I just go take a shit on the BOJ Bldg then ?". Mkt Fag"Robots can take a shit?..yeah sure go ahead by all means I'm not gonna stop you."

If public attitudes toward prices are changing, then the goal of stable 2% inflation can be achieved by a positive feedback loop between inflation and higher wages. As the world's largest holder of Japanese government bond Mkt Fag"and the largest holder of US Treasury Bonds-Don't forget that.", the BOJ is hard-pressed to signal plans to scale back its monetary easing, which would lead to falling prices for the bonds. Still, central banks in developed economies normally engage in a dialogue with the market to give it a heads-up before a policy change. The BOJ is also making efforts to communicate its views to the outside world. Kuroda will end a decade leading the BOJ next April. Mecha-Godzilla"If he makes it out of the door after what Imma about the lay on them....". Japan is not expected to achieve his goal of a sustained and stable inflation rate of 2% before then. Godzilla" Wow...Economic SUPER GENIUS there.../s".
