The World Health Organization said Tuesday that fighters in conflict-ravaged Sudan had occupied the national public laboratory holding samples of diseases including polio and measles, creating an “extremely, extremely dangerous” situation.

Fighters “kicked out all the technicians from the lab… which is completely under the control of one of the fighting parties as a military base,” said Nima Saeed Abid, the WHO’s representative in Sudan.

He did not say which of the fighting parties had taken over the laboratory.

Abid said he had received a call from the head of the national laboratory in Khartoum on Monday, a day before a US-brokered 72-hour ceasefire between Sudan’s warring generals officially came into effect after 10 days of urban combat.

“There is a huge biological risk associated with the occupation of the central public health lab,” said Abid.

He pointed out that the lab held so-called isolates, or samples, of a range of deadly diseases, including measles, polio and cholera.

The director of the lab had also warned of the danger that “depleting stocks of blood bags risk spoiling due to lack of power,” Abid said.

“In addition to chemical hazards, bio-risk hazards are also very high due to lack of functioning generators,” he said.

The UN health agency also said that it had confirmed 14 attacks on healthcare during the fighting, killing eight and injuring two.

The fighting in Sudan has pitted forces loyal to army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan against those of his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The Sudanese health ministry has put the number of deaths so far at 459, with a further 4,072 wounded, the WHO said Tuesday, adding that it had not be able to verify that number.

The UN refugee agency meanwhile said it was bracing for up to 270,000 people to flee Sudan into neighbouring Chad and South Sudan.

Laura Lo Castro, the UN refugee agency’s representative in Chad, said some 20,000 refugees had arrived there since the fighting began 10 days ago.

Speaking to reporters in Geneva via video-link, she said the agency expected up to 100,000 “in the worst case scenario”.

Her colleague in South Sudan, Marie-Helene Verney, meanwhile said that around 4,000 of the more than 800,000 South Sudanese refugees living in Sudan had returned home since the fighting began.

Looking forward, she told reporters that “the most likely scenario is 125,000 returns of South Sudanese refugees into South Sudan.”

In addition, she said, UNHCR expected up to 45,000 Sudanese to flee as refugees into South Sudan.

There also were 9 other CIA officers, still on the job, that endorsed the letter but their names were left off because they were current CIA employees at the time the letter was written. All of these individuals now face potential legal liability for participating in a Biden campaign scheme to raise doubts about the legitimacy of the Hunter Biden laptop. We also know that they are liars and that each one, by affixing their name to this bogus letter, directly interfered in the 2020 Presidential election.

Here is the full text of the letter that Congressman Jim Jordan sent to Secretary of State Antony Blinken notifying him that he must turn over documents and communications in his possession regarding the production and distribution of the letter proclaiming the laptop as Russian disinformation.

Blinken carried out these acts before he became Secretary of State and therefore does not have legal grounds to argue that these communications are covered by Executive Privilege.

The Committee on the Judiciary and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence are conducting oversight of federal law-enforcement and intelligence matters within our respective jurisdictions. We are examining the origins of the infamous public statement signed by 51 former intelligence officials that falsely discredited a New York Post story regarding Hunter Biden’s laptop as supposed Russian disinformation. As part of our oversight, we have learned that you played a role in the inception of this statement while serving as a Biden campaign advisor, and we therefore request your assistance with our oversight.

On October 14, 2020, the New York Post published a report detailing how Hunter Biden used the position and influence of his father, now-President Joe Biden, for personal gain with the apparent awareness of President Biden.1 The article reported on several emails found on a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden that he had abandoned in a Delaware computer shop. 2 The contents of the emails cast doubt on President Biden’s previous denials of speaking to his son about his international business dealings.

Within five days of the article, on October 19, 2020, 51 former intelligence officials released a public statement attempting to discredit the contents of the New York Post’s reporting about Hunter Biden, stating that the story “has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.”3 News publications immediately ran with the statement, with Politico publishing a story with the conclusive headline, “Hunter Biden story is Russian disinfo, dozens of former officials say.”4 Social media companies simultaneously restricted access to the Post story,

Look, there are 50 former national intelligence folks who said that what this, [President Trump’s] accusing me of is a Russian plan. They have said this this has all the characteristics—four—five former heads of the CIA, both parties, say what he’s saying is a bunch of garbage. Nobody believes it except him and his good friend Rudy Giuliani.6

Subsequent reporting revealed that the New York Post story was not, as the public statement claimed and then-Vice President Biden parroted, part of a “Russian information operation.”7 This revelation nearly two years after the fact, however, was little consolation. The concerted efforts to dismiss the serious allegations in the Post’s reporting and to suppress any discussion of the story played a substantial role in the 2020 election.

The Committees recently conducted a transcribed interview with Michael Morell, a former Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and one of the 51 signatories of the public statement. In his transcribed interview, Morell testified that on or around October 17, 2020, you reached out to him to discuss the Hunter Biden laptop story.8 At the time you served as a senior advisor to the Biden campaign. According to Morell, although your outreach was couched as simply gathering Morell’s reaction to the Post story, it set in motion the events that led to the issuance of the public statement.9 Morell testified:

Q: But, prior to [Secretary Blinken’s] call, you – you did not have any intent to write this statement?

A: I did not.

Q: Okay. So his call triggered – A: It did, yes.

That same day, October 17, you also emailed Morell an article published in USA Today alleging that the FBI was examining whether the Hunter Biden laptop was part of a “disinformation

campaign.”11 The very bottom of the email you sent to Morell included the signature block of Andrew Bates, then-director of rapid response for the Biden campaign.12

Morell testified that his communication with you was one of a few communications he had with the Biden campaign, explaining that he also received a call from Steve Ricchetti, Chairman of the Biden campaign, following the October 22 debate to thank him for writing the statement.13 He testified:

After the debate – I think it was after the debate – in fact, I’m pretty sure it was after the debate – I got a phone call from Jeremy Bash, who I work with at Beacon and who is active politically. And Jeremy said: Do you have a minute to talk to Steve Ricchetti?

I said: Of course.

He was the head of the Biden campaign at the time. And Jeremy got him on the line, and Steve thanked me for putting the statement out. And that was the extent of the conversation.14

Morell also explained that the Biden campaign helped to strategize about the public release of the statement. Morell testified that he sent an email telling Nick Shapiro, former Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the Director of the CIA John Brennan, that the Biden campaign wanted the statement to go to a particular reporter at the Washington Post first and that he should send the statement to the campaign when he sent the letter to the reporter.15 Morell testified, however, that he did not recall why he told Shapiro the campaign wanted the statement to go to this reporter first and admitted that he may have spoken to the campaign on another occasion.16

Morell further explained that one of his two goals in releasing the statement was to help then-Vice President Biden in the debate and to assist him in winning the election.17 He testified:

Based on Morell’s testimony, it is apparent that the Biden campaign played an active role in the origins of the public statement, which had the effect of helping to suppress the Hunter Biden story and preventing American citizens from making a fully informed decision during the 2020 presidential election.20 Although the statement’s signatories have an unquestioned right to free speech and free association—which we do not dispute—their reference to their national security credentials lent weight to the story and suggested access to specialized information unavailable to other Americans. This concerted effort to minimize and suppress public dissemination of the serious allegations about the Biden family was a grave disservice to all American citizens’ informed participation in our democracy.

Based on the information we have obtained to date, we believe that you possess material that would advance our oversight and inform potential legislative reforms. Accordingly, we ask that you please provide the following information and records in your personal possession:

Identify all people with whom you communicated about the inception, drafting, editing, signing, publishing, or promotion of the “Public Statement on the Hunter Biden Emails” dated October 19, 2020, during the period October 14, 2020, to November 24, 2020; and

Produce all documents and communications referring or relating to the “Public Statement on the Hunter Biden Emails” dated October 19, 2020, sent or received between October 14, 2020, and November 24, 2020.

It is truly astonishing that these men and women would agree to participate in a scheme to aid Biden. The majority of them, according to research by XRVISION, are Republicans and apparently believed that sabotaging Donald Trump was worth telling a lie. These are not uneducated people with no accomplishments in life. These are people who served in senior CIA positions. They are supposed to be leaders. But they revealed themselves to be nothing more than craven, corrupt bureaucrats with no sense of honor or integrity.

With leaders like these, is it any wonder that the worker bees in the bowels of the CIA will conclude that it is okay to lie and obfuscate? Leaders set an example or are supposed to set an example. Unfortunately, the persons listed in the photo array above are emblematic of the corruption that has beset the CIA for more than 70 years. If they suffer no consequences beyond public shaming for their perfidy, do not be surprised if people currently at the top of the CIA also will conclude that they can indulge in treachery and not pay a price.

This failure of leadership has direct consequences for the security of the United States going forward. For example, if analysts and their supervisors decide to play along and support a false narrative about Russia being a weak, inept country that fields a third-rate military, then the chances that political leaders will embrace those lies and make decisions that can embroil America in a war with Russia that the United States is not equipped to win. Ditto for China.

The Achilles Heel of the CIA has been its penchant for carrying out covert actions to overthrow foreign governments claiming to support “democracy and freedom” while the dirty truth is that many, if not all, of those actions served economic interests that had nothing to do with protecting the United States from foreign enemies.

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, there is only one country in the world that has repeatedly used military force to impose its will on other countries. That dubious distinction belongs to America and the CIA has been a critical enabler of the ensuing bloodshed and suffering around the world as a consequence of America’s military misadventures.

There is irony in the photo array of the men and women pictured above — maybe they believed they were acting to “save America.” But their actions have deepened divisions among the American people and contributed to an unprecedented distrust in the so-called political leaders that infest Washington.

The recent “rescue” of U.S. Government officials from the beleaguered U.S Embassy in Khartoum left thousands of American citizens in Sudan on their own. This is the second time in two years that the United States has broken faith, not just with a foreign country, but with its own citizens. The pampered officials get a military escort out of Sudan. American citizens living there, for whatever reason, are abandoned and left to their own devices. Sadly, this appears to be the new legacy of the United States. This is akin to the Captain of the Titanic putting his crew into life boats and leaving the passengers to fend for themselves. Not a good look. And this sends a message to the rest of the world — you cannot trust America with your life.

The mandate of the UN’s World Health Organization (WHO) could hardly be clearer; in the words of the Organization:

Our primary role is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations’ system.

Our goal is to build a better, healthier future for people all over the world. Working through offices in more than 150 countries, WHO staff work side by side with governments and other partners to ensure the highest attainable level of health for all people.

And yet this impressive mandate is daily made a mockery of by WHO’s refusal to refer to the cholera epidemic raging in Sudan by name. Neither your organization nor the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs will refer explicitly to the fact that what you continue to call “Acute Watery Diarrhea” is in fact cholera, Vibrio cholera—a fact established by laboratory tests in Sudan.

What is most troubling in the present crisis is WHO’s failure to confirm the findings of Sudanese labs tests in Geneva, using stool samples appropriately transferred from Sudan. As you well know, this is entire practicable; by failing to conduct such laboratory tests, you are grossly failing in fulfilling your mandate. Of more immediate consequence, you are failing the people of Sudan, who have suffered so much at the hands of the current regime.

The practicability of laboratory testing of stool samples in Geneva has been confirmed to me by several physicians, including an infectious disease specialist at a major American research hospital:

“Cholera is easy to diagnose unequivocally in stool samples by bacterial culture. Many labs across the world can easily do this using a sample shipped to them. However, this would require special conditions for shipping (e.g., specimen has to be collected and stored in a special fluid called transport media to keep the bacteria alive).” (email received July 24, 2017)

Why has such an “unequivocal diagnosis” not been rendered by WHO, given the massive spread of cholera in Sudan since August 2016? To be sure, the Khartoum regime has made clear that it will punish Sudanese journalists and health officials who dare to use the word “cholera,” and no doubt threats have been issued to WHO, demanding that you be complicit in silence about this terrible disease. The regime’s motive is transparently a desire that the “reputation” of Sudan not be compromised by associations the regime perceives would inhere in any accurate designation of a disease that is clearly out of control. But the effect of WHO’s silence is to ensure that Sudan has not received international medical resources necessary to combat cholera—preeminently massive supplies of re-hydration equipment; medical epidemiologists as well as specialists in treating cholera epidemics; and water/sanitation equipment and engineers.

Leaders set an example or are supposed to set an example. Unfortunately, the persons listed in the photo array above are emblematic of the corruption that has beset the CIA for more than 70 years. If they suffer no consequences beyond public shaming for their perfidy, do not be surprised if people currently at the top of the CIA also will conclude that they can indulge in treachery and not pay a price.

This failure of leadership has direct consequences for the security of the United States going forward. For example, if analysts and their supervisors decide to play along and support a false narrative about Russia being a weak, inept country that fields a third-rate military, then the chances that political leaders will embrace those lies and make decisions that can embroil America in a war with Russia that the United States is not equipped to win. Ditto for China.

The Achilles Heel of the CIA has been its penchant for carrying out covert actions to overthrow foreign governments claiming to support “democracy and freedom” while the dirty truth is that many, if not all, of those actions served economic interests that had nothing to do with protecting the United States from foreign enemies.

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, there is only one country in the world that has repeatedly used military force to impose its will on other countries. That dubious distinction belongs to America and the CIA has been a critical enabler of the ensuing bloodshed and suffering around the world as a consequence of America’s military misadventures.

There is irony in the photo array of the men and women pictured above — maybe they believed they were acting to “save America.” But their actions have deepened divisions among the American people and contributed to an unprecedented distrust in the so-called political leaders that infest Washington.

The recent “rescue” of U.S. Government officials from the beleaguered U.S Embassy in Khartoum left thousands of American citizens in Sudan on their own. This is the second time in two years that the United States has broken faith, not just with a foreign country, but with its own citizens. The pampered officials get a military escort out of Sudan. American citizens living there, for whatever reason, are abandoned and left to their own devices. Sadly, this appears to be the new legacy of the United States. This is akin to the Captain of the Titanic putting his crew into life boats and leaving the passengers to fend for themselves. Not a good look. And this sends a message to the rest of the world — you cannot trust America with your life.

Did you see an aurora over the past two nights? Many people who don't live in Earth's far north did. Reports of aurora came in not only from northern locales in the USA as Alaska, but as far south as Texas and Arizona. A huge auroral oval extended over Europe and Asia, too. Pictured, an impressively red aurora was captured last night near the town of Cáceres in central Spain. Auroras were also reported in parts of southern Spain. The auroras resulted from a strong Coronal Mass Event (CME) that occurred on the Sun a few days ago. Particles from the CME crossed the inner Solar System before colliding with the Earth's magnetosphere. From there, electrons and protons spiraled down the Earth's northern magnetic field lines and collided with oxygen and nitrogen in Earth's atmosphere, causing picturesque auroral glows. Our unusually active Sun may provide future opportunities to see the northern lights in southern skies.

Russia urges expansion of UN Security Council

The West is “over-represented” in the United Nations’ main conflict-solving body, Moscow’s top diplomat has said

The representation of Asia, Africa and Latin America on the UN Security Council (UNSC) should be expanded so that the key international conflict-solving body can meet modern geopolitical needs, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.

“True multilateralism… demands the adaptation of the UN to the objective tendencies of the forming multipolar architecture in international relations,” Lavrov said in a speech at the UN headquarters in New York City on Monday.

This means that the reform of the UNSC has to be “accelerated through the expansion of the representation of Asian, African and Latin American countries in it,” he explained.

“The current massive over-representation of the West in this crucial UN body undermines the principle of multipolarity,” Lavrov pointed out during a discussion on “effective multilateralism” that was organized by Russia as current holder of the council’s rotating presidency.

Lavrov didn’t specify if he was calling for specific nations from Asia, Africa and Latin America to become permanent members of the UNSC, or for quotas for the non-permanent representatives of those regions to be expanded.

The UN Security Council currently consists offive permanent members, each with a power of veto – China, France, Russia, the UK and the US — and ten non-permanent members, elected every two years by the UN General Assembly.

According to current rules, five African and Asian states, one Eastern European state, two Latin American states and two Western European and other states make up the non-permanent members.

With Switzerland and Malta being non-permanent members, the West currently has five seats on the council, more than any other region. Japan, which is a close ally of Washington, is also among the ten current non-permanent members.

During the same discussion, US ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield also urged a reform of the UNSC, saying that “this body must evolve to meet the 21st century” in order to “better reflect today’s global realities.”

She didn’t specify what changes are needed, but commented that “our response to Russia’s flagrant violations [of the UN Charter] can’t be to abandon this institution’s founding principles.”

In his address,Lavrov again rebuked Western claims that Russia’s military operation in Ukraine was “illegal,” saying that the UN Charter calls for respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states with governments that represent all of its people.

It’s clear to any unbiased observer, the minister said, that theKiev authorities, which had come to power a result of “a bloody” coup in 2014 and which mistreated its Russian-speaking population,don’t meet this criteria.

(Russia wants all the recently added Allies to have more power in the UN. The UN is so corrupt and manipulated now I’m not sure it will ever change.)

You could take the five worst presidents in American history, and put them together, and they would not have done the damage Joe Biden has done to our Nation in just a few short years. Not even close.

Thanks to Joe Biden’s socialist spending calamity, American families are being decimated by the worst inflation in half a century. Banks are failing. Our currency is crashing and the dollar will soon no longer be the world standard, which will be our greatest defeat in over 200 years. Real wages have been falling 24 months in a row—in other words, under Biden, workers have gotten a PAY CUT each and every month for two straight years. We have surrendered our energy independence, just like we surrendered in Afghanistan, which we had just a short time ago—and the price of gasoline just hit a 5-month high, and it’s going much higher than that.

Under my leadership, we had the most secure border in U.S. history, by far. Never had a border like this. Under Biden, the Southern Border has been abolished—and millions of illegal aliens have been released into our communities. What’s happening now is beyond belief. They’re coming in from mental institutions and prisons. They are all being emptied. They are being dumped into the United States of America. Many of these people are very dangerous, they are being dumped. We are like a dumping ground. It meant so much to our enemies when they watched that horrible retreat. Russia is teaming up with China. Iran is days away from a nuclear bomb—not even thinkable. Ukraine has been devastated by an invasion that would never, ever have happened if I was president—and Joe Biden has led us to the very brink of World War III. They say Trump was right about everything. Well, I’m not predicting World War III, but I will say this: we’re very close and they’re only talking about nuclear weapons.

On top of it all, Biden is the most corrupt president in American history—and that’s not even close. Nobody can believe what’s going on, with again no retribution whatsoever.

With such a calamitous and failed presidency, it is almost inconceivable that Biden would even think of running for reelection. You know what happened in the last election: they cheated, and they rigged the election. But I promise you this: when I stand on that debate stage and compare our records, it will be Radical Democrats’ worst nightmare because there’s never been a record as bad as they have, and our country has never been through so much. There has never been a greater contrast between two successive administrations in all of American history. Ours being greatness, and theirs being failure.

Police arrest Palatka man who faces multiple charges including sex battery on a child

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a Palatka man who is facing multiple charges including sex battery on a child, and on life felony for tampering with a victim/witness in a capital felony proceeding in a 2021 investigation.

According to PCSO, the investigation began after a tip to the Florida Abuse Hotline. The tip was derived from an email that the victim sent through a school account to other students. The email triggered a flag due to profanity found in the email.

A school administrator reportedly reviewing the email found reason to suspect that the victim was sexually assaulted and contacted the abuse hotline.

The DCF then began an investigation and contacted the sheriff’s office.

Upon disclosure to investigators, an injunction was filed to prevent contact between the victim and the suspect.

On May 12, 2021, a search warrant was reportedly conducted at the suspect’s residence and several items were collected for DNA processing. The items were then sent to an FDLE crime lab and the results were returned on July 1, 2022.

Detectives finished their investigation and submitted charges to the State Attorney’s office. A warrant was signed for 49-year-old John Yural Hudson’s arrest last week and he was arrested on April 24. Hudson was taken to the Putnam County Jail and is being held without bond.

“While this case occurred before the proposed state death penalty option for child molesters, it definitely presents a case to support this type of punishment for these monsters,” Sheriff H.D. ‘Gator’ DeLoach said. “This child was subjected to rape and sexual abuse… The victim was robbed of childhood innocence and terrorized.”

A Japanese company will attempt the first successful private landing on the moon, and you can watch the whole thing live.

Should Hakuto-R make it, the lander will be the first privately operated spacecraft to land safely on the moon. ispace plans to place the Hakuto-R lander on the moon on Tuesday (April 25) at 12:40 p.m. EDT (1640 GMT). You can watch the whole thing live here at Space.com, via ispace(opens in new tab), starting at 11 a.m. EDT (1500 GMT).

The primary landing site is Atlas Crater, located at the southeastern outer edge of Mare Frigoris ("Sea of Cold"), according to earlier statements(opens in new tab) from the company.

"Should conditions change, there are three alternative landing sites and depending on the site, the landing date may change. Alternative landing dates, depending on the operational status, are April 26, May 1 and May 3, 2023," ispace officials wrote on April 12(opens in new tab).

The Hakuto-R spacecraft launched in December 2022 atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and is in a roughly circular orbit some 62 miles (100 kilometers) above the lunar surface. The spacecraft has sent numerous incredible images from orbit already.

One image beamed home by Hakuto-R captured a stunning Earthrise that occurred at the same time as last week's hybrid solar eclipse. In the photo, the shadow of the moon can be seen as it moves across the face of the Earth in the South Pacific.

The landing sequence will include several steps, ispace officials wrote. "The lander will perform a braking burn, firing its main propulsion system to decelerate from orbit. Utilizing a series of pre-set commands, the lander will adjust its attitude and reduce velocity in order to make a soft landing on the lunar surface. The process will take approximately one hour."

Also on board the mission are the mini Rashid rover for the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) space agency, an artificial intelligence system from Canadian company Mission Control and a multi-camera imaging system by Canadian company Canadensys Aerospace.

UAE's first long-duration astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi posted a message to Twitter(opens in new tab) on Monday (April 24) from the International Space Station, wishing the mission success as it approaches its historic landing attempt.

Only three other countries have soft landed on the moon before: The United States, the Soviet Union and China.

ispace has big growth plans, too. It was listed(opens in new tab) on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth Market on April 12 and is planning second and third moon missions no earlier than 2024 and 2025, respectively.

GATES FOUNDATION MOVES ON FROM FIRST MALARIA VACCINE — The development of the world’s first malaria vaccine was a historic milestone, making worldwide headlines last fall.

Despite its 30 percent efficacy against hospitalization with severe malaria in young children — dispelling hope that it would be a silver bullet — there was widespread enthusiasm that the vaccine could help prevent the deaths of 400 children for every 100,000 fully immunized kids.

Since 2001, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has donated more than $200 million to be used for testing the RTS,S vaccine. Global health organizations then piloted it in Ghana, Malawi and Kenya.

Mass rolloutwas always going to be challenging.

Citing the shot’s low efficacy, short-term immunity, high price and limited supply, the Gates Foundation decided not to support the vaccine rollout directly, and said it supports the decision by Gavi, which funds vaccine procurement for developing countries, to fund the RTS,S vaccine program.–

“Although we had spent a lot of money on RTS,S directly, when we ran through our analyses and said: ‘What saves the most lives today and what is the best use of R&D and product development money and product launch money for the rest of this decade, we ended up moving in a different direction,” Philip Welkhoff, director for malaria at the Gates Foundation, told Global Pulse. He called the decision challenging.

Accelerating the development of second-generation bed nets to improve protection from malaria-transmitting mosquitoes and supporting the deployment of other tools, such as drugs and insecticides, needed to fight the disease will save more lives with the available resources in the short term than the vaccine,he said.

What happens now: Gavi has allocated some $155 million to support the vaccine’s rollout over three years. The first application window for interested countries is expected to open next week, and the World Health Organization will lay out fair-vaccine-allocation advice in the next few days.

What the Gates Foundation is eyeing next: The development of the RTS,S vaccine yielded knowledge, Welkoff said, that could lead to a more powerful tool to fight malaria: monoclonal antibodies.

The drug therapy is under development and could become available toward the end of the decade, he said. The aim is to protect children most at risk from malaria with one injection ahead of the rainy season when malaria transmission is highest.

Instead of the three-dose RTS,S vaccine, “you could just come in every year, ahead of the season, have a single encounter with the child and protect the child for at least four months and as much as five or six [months],” he said.

Until then, countries in sub-Saharan Africa will have to rely on Gavi and their own resources to access the world’s first malaria vaccine.

This release includes prices for 20 individual cities, two composite indices (for 10 cities and 20 cities) and the monthly National index. The S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller U.S. National Home Price NSA Index, covering all nine U.S. census divisions, reported a 2.0% annual gain in February, down from 3.7% in the previous month. The 10-City Composite annual increase came in at 0.4%, down from 2.5% in the previous month. The 20-City Composite posted a 0.4% year-over-year gain, down from 2.6% in the previous month. Miami, Tampa, and Atlanta again reported the highest year-over-year gains among the 20 cities in February. STENNIS SPACE CENTER, Mississippi – The Navy DoD Supercomputing Resource Center (Navy DSRC) is proud to announce the latest addition to its lineup of supercomputers: Nautilus.

Nautilus is a Penguin TrueHPC supercomputer with a peak performance of 8.2 petaFLOPS, 176,128 compute cores, 382 TB of memory, and 26 petabytes of storage. It completed its final testing in April 2023 and features 48 GPU nodes.

Including Nautilus, the Navy DSRC now has a total of six supercomputers, or high-performance computing (HPC) systems, and is one of five DSRCs in the Department of Defense's High-Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP).

The Nautilus HPC system boasts an impressive configuration, including 1,352 compute nodes with up to 128 AMD EPYC Milan compute cores per node, 256 GB of memory per node, 16 NVIDIA A40 visualization nodes, 32 NVIDIA A100 Quad GPU AI/ML nodes, 26 petabytes of DDN storage (including 4.15 petabytes of NVMe storage), and a 200 Gbps NVIDIA Mellanox Infiniband interconnect.

U.S. consumer confidence fell to a nine-month low in April led by a darkening outlook that augers a recession beginning in the near future, a survey showed on Tuesday. The Conference Board said its consumer confidence index fell to 101.3 - the lowest since July 2022 - from a revised 104.0 in March. Belgrade was ‘unpleasantly surprised’ by Kiev’s vote on Kosovo at the Council of Europe, Serbian FM Ivica Dacic says

Serbia may change its stance on Ukraine’s territorial integrityafter Kiev abstained during a vote on accepting the breakaway region of Kosovo’s request to join the Council of Europe, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic has said.

The Ministerial Committee of the Council of Europe held an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday to decide the fate of Kosovo’s application.The bid was supported by 33 members out of 46, with seven against, and five abstaining.

“I must say that Ukraine has surprised us unpleasantly” by being among the abstaining members, Dacic said shortly after the vote.

“This whole story is based on territorial integrity when it comes to [the conflict in] Ukraine. You know how much effort it takes for [Serbia] to vote for all the resolutions, to condemn the violation of territorial integrity of Ukraine,” he said.

The diplomat pointed out that “foreign policy is based on reciprocity. This will certainly affect our views in the future on territorial integrity of those countries,” he said, referring to Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Slovakia, Armenia as some of the nations whose votes surprised him.

Serbia, which has close ties with Russia, has been resisting Western pressure to sanction Moscow over the conflict in Ukraine. However, it has condemned the use of force by Moscow and insisted that the territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state should be respected.

The majority ethnic Albanian region ofKosovo unilaterally declared independencefrom Serbia back in 2008. The US and many of its allies recognized the province as a sovereign state almost immediately. However, Belgrade still considers Kosovo to be part of its territory and the region is not recognized by Russia, China and several other nations.

Pristina’s Foreign Minister Donika Gervalla-Schwarz hailed the vote as “a historic step, perhaps the most important after our independence.” The final verdict on the bid by Pristina is to be delivered by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Dacic condemned the development, warning that it may well lead to a situationwhere “a part of some other country is going to be offered to join the Council of Europe.”

Russian gas should only be transported to the EU through Ukraine, the president’s office has suggested

The office of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has proposed a new plan aimed at tightening sanctions on Moscow. It includes the restriction of all direct gas supplies from Russia to the European Union except those delivered via the Ukrainian gas transportation system.

Kiev has also recommended that the TurkStream pipeline, which delivers Russian gas to Türkiye, should be shut down.

The plan was reportedly developed by an international expert group led by the head of the presidential administration, Andrey Yermak, and formerUS ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul. (Since McFaul said it, thos won’t happen. EU doesn’t want any more connections to Ukraine.)

“End the direct supplies of Russian gas to the European Union, aside from the flows directed via the Ukrainian gas transmission system, which has ample transit capacity,” the presidential administration said.

Kiev’s plan also proposes the imposition of a ban on imports of Russian liquified natural gas to the EU.

Brussels has introduced ten packages of sanctions targeting Russia over its military operation in Ukraine. The penalties were initially aimed at weakening the Russian economy but have resulted in major disruption to global supply chains, throwing the European energy market into turmoil.

Prior to the conflict in Ukraine, Russia supplied nearly 40% of the gas consumed by EU countries, mostly through pipeline networks. While the bloc has not banned Russian pipeline gas imports, their flows dwindled significantly after Ukraine-related sanctions were imposed.

Deliveries were also affected by the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline, one of the main routes for Russian gas to Europe. Russian gas supplies currently cover about 10% of the bloc’s entire consumption, according to Brussels.

US warns of new Russian offensive in Ukraine

The White House has pledged continued support for Kiev as it prepares for its much-touted battlefield push

Ukrainian forces could face more Russian attacks even as they prepare a counteroffensive of their own, US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby has warned.

“In the spring, when the weather improves, and it’s already starting to improve… we can expect the Russians to want to go on the offensive in some areas,” Kirby told state-run news outlet Voice of America on Friday.

“We want to make sure that the Ukrainians are able to better defend themselves against that and if they choose offensive operations of their own, that they’ve got the capabilities to conduct those,” he added.

Kiev has been promising for months to launch a counteroffensive against Russia sometime this spring, after receiving weapons and training for its troops from the US and other foreign backers.

However, the operation has thus far not materialized and may not kick off until the summer, according to recent remarks by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmigal. Some Ukrainian officials, including Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, warned against treating the much-anticipated offensive as a make-or-break moment in the conflict.

Several reports in the US media have indicated that the Ukrainian push – if and when it comes – may not result in significant gains.Skeptics cited battlefield losses, including among experienced soldiers, a shortage of artillery munitions and mounting pressure by Russian troops as factors that undermine the Ukrainian position.

The frontline city of Artyomovsk, known as Bakhmut in Ukraine, became the site of some of the bloodiest fighting this year. Russian forces have been gradually advancing and are now in the process of seizing the westernmost part of the city, which remains under Kiev’s control.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has declared the city a “fortress” and refused to pull troops out, despite repeated calls by US officials to do so, according to Western media outlets, citing classified documents allegedly leaked from the Pentagon. Zelensky reportedly fears that the fall of the city would hit morale and has continued to cling to it despite heavy losses by Ukrainian troops.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Russian private military company Wagner Group, which played a significant part in the fight for Artyomovsk, noted this week thathe expected Kiev to start its counteroffensive as soon as the city was captured by Russia.

“Zelensky will need a great victory. And he will start the counteroffensive for the sake of it,”Prigozhin said.

A California professor has been busted for trying to arrange to rape a 7-year-old in conversations with an undercover FBI agent where he suggested luring the girl with a doll and chocolate, prosecutors said.

Rodger “Rod” Githens, an associate professor at the University of the Pacific, was arrested on April 21 on charges including receipt and distribution of images of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct, a criminal complaint from the Eastern District of California confirms.

The graphic complaint includes extensive details of Githens’ online conversations with an undercover FBI agent posing as a “‘taboo-friendly’” 30-year-old man who claimed to be sexually active with his 7-year-old niece.

During the exchange that began on Grindr on March 25, Githens said he was “experienced” with molesting children and expressed interest in meeting the man and his niece.

“[I would] love to have a dad or uncle invite me,” he allegedly wrote after the pair moved their conversation to the encrypted Telegram messenger service.

When discussing plans to meet in Fresno, Githens said he would bring the girl “her favorite chocolate bar…and an Ariel doll.”

EU demands more online censorship

Twitter and 18 other large platforms will face fines if they don’t crack down on “disinformation”

The European Commission has designated 19 online platforms under its Digital Services Act, a move that opens them up to hefty fines if they target advertisements at certain users, publish illegal content, or fail to “address the spread of disinformation.”

In an announcement on Tuesday, the commission named 17 “Very Large Online Platforms” and two “Very Large Online Search Engines,” defined as those reaching at least 45 million monthly active users. Among the platforms cited areFacebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter, while Google and Microsoft’s Bingare the two designated search engines.

The decision means that as of August, these platforms must be in compliance with the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), a wide-ranging piece of legislation that came into force in November.

To avoid fines of up to6% of their global annual turnover, the commission stated that these platforms must label all advertisements as such and avoid targeting ads at users based on “sensitive data” such as their ethnicity, sexuality, or political orientation.

Targeting ads toward children will no longer be permitted, and platforms will have to “redesign their systems to ensure a high level of privacy, security, and safety of minors,” the commission said. (Nothing wrong with that)

Regarding content moderation, platforms will be required to restrict the “dissemination of illegal content” and “addressthe spread of disinformation,” The entire text of the DSA mentions the word “disinformation” 13 times without defining it.Free speech activists have argued that the term is often used by governments to silence factually correct yet politically inconvenient narratives.

The commission also warned that platforms and search engines will need to address “negative effects on freedom of expression,” a requirement that could clash with the demand to tackle “disinformation.”

While the DSA was being drafted last year, EU officialssingled out Twitteras a company that would be forced to comply with its requirements. Immediately after billionaire Elon Musk bought the platform and set about rolling back some of its restrictive speech policies, EU industry chief Thierry Breton declared that “in Europe, the bird will fly by our European rules.”

Two months later, EU Commissioner for Values and Transparency Vera Jourova warned that Twitter would face “sanctions” if it breached the DSA. Jourova cited Musk’s banning of several prominent journalists – who shared information on his whereabouts – as potential DSA violations. I’d be looking at all issues related to the corruption of the Intelligence Community, especially the Department of Justice and FBI—the targeting of parents attending school board meetings, the role of intelligence officials in promoting censorship in general, and the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story in particular, the double standard in how they prosecute adherents of certain political views like January 6 defendants vs. how they handle Antifa, Black Lives Matters rioters, and those targeting abortion clinics, the list goes on. The World Health Organization has declared there is a “high risk of biological hazard” in Khartoum, Sudan after a military group seized one of Sudan’s main bio-labs.

Reuters reported the laboratory seized contained cholera, measles, and several other deadly pathogens.

The WHO Representative of Sudan said in statement, “This is the main concern: no accessibility to the lab technicians to go to the lab and safely contain the biological material and substances available.”

Emergency Crews Respond to Incident at Chemical Plant in LemontSource: Pixabay

Officials have confirmed that emergency services are responding to an incident at a petroleum chemical plant in Lemont, Illinois following concerns of a probable explosion.

Firefighters were called to the Seneca Petroleum Company at 12460 New Ave. in Lemont, according to officials.

The specifics of what occurred were not immediately known. It was unclear whether any injuries had been recorded.

The Lemont Fire District issued an alert via their social media accounts at approximately 10 a.m. referring to the ongoing occurrence as an “active incident.” They have urged individuals in the locality to steer clear of the intersection at New Avenue and 127th Street.

According to Patch, Lemont Police have disclosed that several injuries have been reported. Meanwhile, the Lemont Fire Protection District has stated that the fire has been contained, and all teams are currently addressing the matter at hand.

Aerial photographs captured at the location indicate that one of the silos present on the premises has been severely damaged, with the top portion completely blown off. Emergency response crews have swiftly mobilized to the scene, Mirror reported.

ABC7 has reported that as per the Will County Coroner’s Office, at least one individual has lost their life. And another has been transported to Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, according to WGN-TV.

Unfortunately, no information regarding the patient’s current status is currently available. The public is being advised to stay away from the affected vicinity.

The Will County Sheriff’s Office has stated that preliminary assessments suggest that the blast might have originated from an asphalt tank. As per their statement, there are no imminent hazards to the general public. (anon asks, "why the nuke hazard symbol on the article?")

In response to the explosion, OSHA and ComEd have been summoned to the location. According to the authorities, the blast caused power lines to fall, WGN-TV reported.

Ya Ya was loaned two decades ago as part of an informal diplomacy program

After spendingtwo decadeson loan to the Memphis Zoo as a tool of Beijing’s so-called ‘panda diplomacy’ efforts, Ya Ya – a 22-year-old female giant panda – will be returned to China amid a hail of concern from animal rights and welfare groups over her health. The US zoo denies claims of poor animal care.

Xinhua News Agency reported on Tuesday that Ya Ya “will return to China within the next few days,” citing sources within the country’s National Forestry and Grassland Administration. The decision comes amid outcry from animal welfare watchdog groups InDefense of Animals and Panda Voices, which had issued calls for Ya Ya to be returned home “before her health worsens.”

Some observers had suggested that photos and videos of Ya Ya appeared to show that she was emaciated and was suffering from a skin complaint. It was also claimed that she was displaying unusual, repetitive behavior. The watchdogs had blamed the Memphis Zoo for the February death of Ya Ya’s mate, Le Le. In Defense of Animals said at the time that Le Le’s death had shown the zoo’s “utter inability to properly care for giant pandas.”

The Memphis Zoo, though, has sternly rejected any claims of the mistreatment of either animal. Its official website describes Ya Ya as exhibiting “outgoing” and “quirky”characteristics, and says that she “enjoys hanging out with her keepers at any time during the day.”

The zoo announced last December before Le Le’s death that both animals were scheduled to be returned to Shanghai following the completion of a loan program. Preparations have been made to prepare Ya Ya for the journey, which is expected to occur before the end of April.

Beijing has engaged in ‘panda diplomacy’ since 1972, when the country offered two animals to then-US President Richard Nixon. Eighteen countries currently have pandas on loan from China – the only country in the world where the animals exist in a natural habitat.

According to geopolitics expert Matthew Fraser, Beijing traditionally employs panda loans as a means of goodwill or to boost a trade deal. “When China takes back a panda, it is usually becausethe regime is very displeased for some reason,” he told the New York Times earlier this month.

Relations between Washington and Beijing remain tense over the situation with Taiwan. China views the island as a breakaway province that is part of its sovereign territory. The US diplomatically recognizes Beijing’s ‘One China’ principle but has maintained informal ties with Taipei.

For financial context, remember Rupert Murdoch paid Megyn Kelly $15 million (Via Harper Collins) for the 2015/2016 operation against Donald Trump. Paying $60 to $100 million to get rid of Carlson’s antagonistic voice is small money to Murdoch Inc. in the grand scheme of things. [Murdoch has also paid for Ron DeSantis to oppose Trump]

Carlson will not be asked to sign an NDA, is not bound by a “non-compete” clausefollowing the contract nullification by Fox Corp, and will be free to do anything he wants in any venture. Additionally, he will be free to say whatever he wants about the issues at Fox and speak freely, or not, without any legal or contractual constraints. Keep all of that in mind.

Prior to 2021, Tucker Carlson was what you might call a Fox News loyalist. He was very loyal to the organization. During the COVID-19 era, Tucker Carlson moved his physical location away from Washington DC to his home in Maine. Fox built him a studio, and Carlson manifest his own destiny free from most production constraints.

Over the past 18+/- months, viewers have watched Tucker Carlson essentiallyred pill himself each evening. As he enjoyed the proximity freedom far away from the Eye of Sauron (DC’s control mechanism), Carlson’s eyes opened further to the reality of the situation that blankets our national consciousness.

Disconnected from the machine, free-range in his abilities, and with the intellectual curiosity of the average person, Tucker Carlson started to see the U.S. system as it is, not as media pretend it to be. Cayre told DeSantis that he supported Zeldin’s Democrat opponent Kathy Hochul. The contingency for the contribution appeared to be that DeSantis would cancel attendance of the dinner for Zeldin. Team DeSantis tried to sell a story about an emergency funeral the following day for slain police officer Jose Perez as the reason for his cancellation. However, we did a deep dive on the details and the timeline, and nothing matched the claims by DeSantis. {GO DEEP}

Officer Perez died on August 20th. The funeral was announced by the family and FDLE on August 26th, to be held August 29th.

When DeSantis left Florida on August 28th to pick up the check from Cayre and then attend the dinner later that night, he was well aware of the Perez funeral the next day. DeSantis took the time to pick up the check, then cancelled the evening dinner with Zeldin.

Two months later, long after the value of the fundraising would have been useful, on October 30, 2022, DeSantis made a return trip to New York to fulfill his obligation.

With only a week left before the 2022 mid-term election the value of the “fundraising window” had closed. DeSantis made an innocuous speech about police officer support, and then left New York. Essentially Zeldin was railroaded by the financial priority of the Florida Governor.

Actions create consequences.

Last week, the Eastern District of New York announced the arrests of two New Yorkers for conspiring to act as Chinese agents

The individuals were identified as “Harry” Lu Jianwang, 61, of the Bronx, and Chen Jinping, 59, of Manhattan. Once confronted by the FBI, they allegedly destroyed evidence.

Now, a report suggests one of these wannabe Chinese agents may have ties to some prominent Democrats.

A video has emerged showing Lu mingling with two of the most powerful Democrats in America, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and NYC Mayor Eric Adams. They met at an event earlier this year where the Democrats spoke.

According to Fox News, the gathering was a fundraiser for the Fukien American Association, a cultural nonprofit linked to the Chinese province.

Of course, both Schumer and Adams deny knowing Lu. But one should consider the deep ties so many Democrats in America have to our most dangerous enemy.

The most notable one, of course, is Joe Biden.

One of the two men accused by federal prosecutors of running a secret Chinese police station in New York City purportedly has been captured on video attending an event alongside two prominent Democrats, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

Video recorded on March 18 appears to show Lu Jianwang standing alongside Adams most recently at an event where Schumer also spoke. Lu was arrested last week and charged with conspiring to act as an agent of China’s government, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.

In a statement, Adams’ office told Fox News that the mayor’s attendance at an event is either to show support for a local community or the city and does not signal any kind of endorsement.

DuPont Sentenced for Texas Plant Leak That Killed Four

Chemical giant DuPont was ordered to pay $16 million and sentenced to two years on probation for a poisonous gas leak that killed four employees in 2014, federal prosecutors announced.

On Nov. 15, 2014, a DuPont pesticide factory in LaPorte, about 20 miles east of Houston, Texas, released approximately 24,000 pounds of a highly toxic, flammable gas called methyl mercaptan, which killed four workers.

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) investigation released in 2019 refers to “a long chain of failures,” including numerous safety management and prevention shortcomings, including unresolved technical deficiencies.

DuPont and Kenneth Sandel, 52, a former employee and unit operations leader involved in the incident, pleaded guilty to the negligent release of an extremely hazardous substance.

U.S. District Judge Lee Rosenthal ordered DuPont to pay a $12 million fine and an additional $4 million community service contribution to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

DuPont was further sentenced to two years of probation, which grants federal officials full access to all of the company’s operating locations in the U.S.

Sandel was sentenced to one year of probation.

“Four employees are dead because of DuPont’s criminal negligence,” said Houston-based State Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.

“The sentence imposed today sends a clear message of my office’s dedication to holding managers at industrial facilities, and the corporations that own and operate those facilities, accountable for violations of federal criminal laws; laws meant to protect the safety of workers and nearby communities,” he added.

For several days before the accident, operations personnel attempted to clear a blocked pipe outside the manufacturing building. Sandel and DuPont engineers allegedly devised a plan to divert a large volume of methyl mercaptan gas into a waste gas pipe system.

This led to a pressure problem elsewhere inside the building. According to prosecutors, two workers disregarded a federally mandated safety procedure when they opened valves to resolve what they thought was an unrelated, routine pressure problem.

Liquid methyl mercaptan escaped through the valves.

County officials in Missouri are refusing to cooperate with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), asserting that the federal agency is “unconstitutional”.

Camden County presiding commissioner Ike Skelton, County Attorney Jeff Green, County Treasurer Kendra Hicks, and Sheriff Tony Helms were among the six senior elected officials to write to the agency known for its involvement in incidents such as the Waco massacre. They cited a local ordinance as justification for refusing to cooperate.

“Under the Anti-Commandeering Doctrine, Camden County was the first county in Missouri, and possibly in the country, to pass an ordinance prohibiting any county employee from assisting your unconstitutional agency in violating the rights of our citizens,” wrote Skelton in comments quoted by a local NPR affiliate.

In a further statement, he argued that “[a]ny and all federal firearms laws, so-called laws, in my opinion, and many others’ opinion, are unconstitutional.”

Challenging the Feds.

Missouri is the scene of a much wider battle between conservative-led state governments backing the people’s right to bear arms and the Joe Biden-led federal government, which is seeking to restrict it.

In March, an Obama-appointed federal judge, Brian Wimes, moved to strike down the Second Amendment Preservation Act of 2021, a law passed by Missouri’s legislature which empowered Missourians to sue local and state officials assisting federal agencies infringing Second Amendment rights for tens of thousands of dollars.

Wimes ruled the act was “unconstitutional” and therefore “invalid, null, void, and of no effect,” arguing that it undermined the supremacy of federal law over state law.

Biden’s Attorney General, Merrick Garland, who brought the case, gloated that he was “gratified” by Wimes’s initial decision, but Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey insisted he would “defend this statute to the highest court” — and the judge has conceded that the act can remain in force while the appeals process is ongoing, at least for now.

Wimes’s position that the law unconstitutionally abrogates federal law and is “designed to [do just that” and the Missourian position that states can disapply federal gun laws on grounds that they are unconstitutional are in direct conflict.

Observers well beyond Missouri will be watching closely to see which position wins out, given the enormous implications it could have not just for gun rights, but also states’ rights and the very nature of governance within the Union.

Dutch nurse arrested for allegedly KILLING at least 24 COVID patients

A nurse in the Netherlands was arrested for allegedly killing at least 24 patients infected with the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19).

Dutch law enforcement arrested the 30-year-old suspect known as Theo V., the country’s Public Prosecution Service (OM) said on April 20 while releasing limited information. Prior to his arrest, the nurse had worked in the lung ward of Wilhelmina Hospital in the northeastern Dutch city of Assen. The hospital hired the nurse just a few months before the COVID-19 pandemic began.

According to the OM, Theo V. was suspected of “being involved in the deaths of patients at Wilhelmina Hospital.” BNO News reported that the investigation by the government prosecutor’s office appears to be focused on the period between March 2020 and May 2022.

Government attorneys declined to provide details about the number of patients involved. However, a relative of a patient was informed that at least 24 deaths are being investigated. The same person added that all 24 were being treated for COVID-19.

Another man whose father died in April 2020 told the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper: “We asked, of course, how this happened, how this man was able to do this, but they can’t say anything about this yet. It’s not yet certain that this man [Theo V.] killed my father, but the fact that it’s being investigated shows that something is wrong.”

Republicans Demand Answers About Two Accidents Involving Dangerous Gain-Of-Function Research In Wisconsin

The entire Republican Wisconsin congressional delegation, led by Rep. Mike Gallagher, are demanding that two federal agencies provide information about two accidents in a lab conducting gain-of-function research.

A University of Wisconsin lab, directed by virologist Yoshihiro Kawaoka, was the site of two potential leaks of the H5N1 bird flu, according to an excerpt from the upcoming book “Pandora’s Gamble: Lab Leaks, Pandemics, and a World at Risk,” by Alison Young. Scientists in the lab conducted experiments designed to make the bird flu more transmissible to humans. In 2013, a scientist pierced their finger with a needle covered in the engineered H5N1 virus, Young reported, while in 2019 a trainee’s respirator hose became detached, causing the scientist to breathe in infected air.

The University of Wisconsin did not immediately notify the National Institute of Health or the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of either breach. The school also allowed the scientists in question to quarantine at home, rather than in a dedicated facility, in violation of federal guidelines. Neither scientist reportedly became ill.

“One of the many impacts the COVID-19 pandemic has had is an increasing awareness of gain-of-function research—scientific research that deliberately enhances pathogens like SARS or influenza in a lab in an effort to better understand and combat them,” the Republicans write to National Institutes of Health Director Lawrence Tabak and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky, in a letter obtained exclusively by the Daily Caller.

They are demanding that the two agencies provide information about the University of Wisconsin’s compliance with the Department of Health and Human Services’ P3CO framework, which regulates gain-of-function research. The Republicans are also requesting information about other labs that receive federal funding and conduct similar viral experiments.

“The NIH has an obligation to enforce the strictest safety standards on any lab that engages in risky research. The reported incident at UW-Madison raises questions about NIH’s basic processes for oversight and transparency at these labs and underscores why no lab should be engaging in gain-of-function research in the first place. The NIH needs to immediately address these concerns and outline steps they’ve taken to ensure that the confusion seen at UW-Madison never happens again,” Gallagher said in a statement to the Daily Caller.

Dr. Anthony Fauci struck a defensive tone during a recent interview reflecting on his and the government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, admitting that mistakes were made despite his best efforts.

"Show me a school that I shut down and show me a factory that I shut down. Never. I never did," Fauci said when asked about the consequences of "heavy-handed" public health policies in a New York Times interview published Tuesday. "I gave a public-health recommendation that echoed the CDC’s recommendation, and people made a decision based on that. But I never criticized the people who had to make the decisions one way or the other."

The response was just one of several in which Fauci defended his guidance during the pandemic, pushing back against critics who have accused him of being wrong about everything from masks to how effective vaccines would be.

While Fauci, who recently retired from his post as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, admitted public health officials were sometimes wrong, he argued that the ever-changing nature of the evidence meant it was nearly impossible to get everything right.

"Communication in pandemics is difficult under the best of circumstances," Fauci said. "What has been so troubling to me as a health official is when you are dealing with a moving target, the evidence is evolving and new data becomes available, but you get so many different people with their own sets of data that are not real data, but even in a perfect world, it would not be easy."

A lot has been said about Ukraine’s expected spring offensive, with many Western analysts predicting that it will soon begin. In fact, Newsweek cited the secret documents leaked on the Internet, which revealed that the US and its allies are aiming to launch Ukraine’s offensive by April 30, the anniversary of Adolf Hitler’s death.

Given that this timeframe is only days away, it seems unlikely that Ukraine will launch a major offensive because there is a lack of soldiers and weapons, such as fighter jets, air defence systems, tanks, armoured personnel carriers, and missiles. At the same time, Russian forces are likely readying themselves for the offensive, and to then also launch a counteroffensive.

Nevertheless, according to the Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Hanna Maliar, the Ukrainian army has already launched an offensive and it is wrong to wait for the announcement of a specific date. However, the Ukrainian army’s actions do not even resemble an offensive and it appears more like that they are trying to find weak points to attack in the future.

This task is made all the more difficult since offensives are usually preceded by artillery and airstrikes to soften defences. This has obviously not occurred, and will not occur in a major way since the Ukrainian military has lost nearly all of their fighter jets and artillery.

Given that Ukraine is not in a position to successfully launch an offensive, it is becoming increasingly evident that it is the US persistently pushing for an escalation. The West is seeking a justification to explain to their taxpayers why billions of dollars are propping up the Far-Right regime in Kiev instead of being used for domestic development. This is being done now by pretending that the Ukrainian military is on the cusp of victory.

For this purpose, Washington is pushing Ukraine to launch an offensive despite the fact that it can lead to the complete destruction of the Ukrainian army and a further loss of territory.

Western and Ukrainian media, as well as politicians, are also actively discussing the possible offensive to try and exert pressure and intimidate Russia. It is part of an informational and psychological war, and it is no coincidence that the dates of possible offensives are being publicly discussed.

The possible launch of the spring offensive on the very day of Adolf Hitler’s death is highly symbolic and points to the Kiev regimes extremist ideology. If Ukraine is to launch an offensive on this day, it can be interpreted as a primitive and pathetic attempt of revenge for the Soviet destruction of the Nazi regime in World War II.

None-the-less, for all the hype during the winter about the upcoming offensive, many are sceptical that Ukraine will launch it because, as already said, the country’s military does not have enough soldiers and weapons.

According to the founder of Wagner Private Military Company, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the Ukrainian army is unlikely to stage an offensive because the conditions are still muddy, thus making fields and unpaved roads impassable.

“An offensive cannot be launched right now for quite understandable reasons: amid horrific slush and mud. Even pickup trucks cannot freely run on this terrain, let alone heavy vehicles and tanks. It will take some ten days for the ground to dry,” Prigozhin said.
