The first new Albertan oil sands project in eight years is now operational three and a half hours north of Edmonton, near Lac la Biche.

The $1.1-billion project, which is called the Blackrod SAGD, which stands for steam-assisted gravity drainage, is expected to produce 30,000 barrels of oil per day.

This would represent a close to doubling of Blackrod's current production of 45,000 barrels per day.

This is a brand-new facility in a location that has that has never had any large-scale oil extraction operations.

This is the first phase of the Blackrod oil sands project, which its owner, International Petroleum Corp. (IPC), sees as the beginning of a transformative new project for the Albertan oil sands industry.

“We very much believe in future phase expansions,” IPC CEO William Lundin said during last year's Q1 report.

“Blackrod (is) a massive resource base where we have greater than one billion barrels of contingent resources.” Continue…

Federal bureaucrats are leaning on the CBC to help steer public attitudes and reinforce national unity, according to internal Heritage Department briefing notes warning that many Canadians are tuning out official government messaging.

Blacklock's Reporter says the September 24 document says Ottawa is concerned parts of the population remain disengaged despite what it calls a resurgence of civic pride linked to tensions with the United States.

While officials claim pride in Canadian sovereignty has grown over the past year, the note cautions that “worrying trends” persist.

The briefing, titled Fostering Canadian Identity To Strengthen Our Sovereignty And Social Cohesion, points to alleged foreign state efforts to deepen social division.

It cites disinformation campaigns, the spread of polarizing material on social media, and what it describes as an overreliance on foreign-owned platforms as threats to Canada’s “information sovereignty.”

“Canada faces a series of crises including threats to our sovereignty and economy that may impact our national identity,” the note says, adding that polarization, declining trust in institutions and social fragmentation could weaken both economic resilience and social cohesion.

Coastal First Nations is an activist group endorsed by just eight of the more than 70 First Nations on the B.C. coast

This week, Prime Minister Mark Carney flew to B.C. for a meeting with “Coastal First Nations,” crediting them as ancient guardians of the Pacific Coast.

“Coastal First Nations have stewarded the waters of the B.C. North Coast from time immemorial,” he wrote in a statement.

But Carney didn’t meet with a governing body representing the more than 100 First Nations on the B.C. coast. In fact, he didn’t meet with an Indigenous governing body of any kind.

Carney met with an anti-pipeline non-profit that has done business under the name “Coastal First Nations” since 2002. Prior to that, it was called Turning Point, and operated out of the offices of the David Suzuki Foundation.

In fact, the group’s last major event before meeting Carney was a gala to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Coastal First Nations isn’t even the name on its registration documents. If Carney had used their official moniker, his statement would have read, “The Great Bear Initiative Society has stewarded the waters of the B.C. North Coast from time immemorial.”

But the B.C. coast is home to one of the densest collections of First Nations governments in the entire country.

Of the 600 officially recognized First Nations bands in Canada, more than a tenth of them are located on the edges of the Pacific Ocean.

According to a map of First Nations communities compiled by the B.C. Assembly of First Nations, there are 72 First Nations whose reserve land is on the coast.

But Coastal First Nations has ties to just eight of those communities, representing a total of 11,236 members as of the last count by the B.C. government.

For context, in the last census, B.C. had 290,210 Indigenous people, of whom 180,085 identified as First Nations.

In short, Coastal First Nations is endorsed by just 10 per cent of the First Nations bands who could accurately call themselves Coastal First Nations. And at best, they represent just 6.2 per cent of the province’s total First Nations population. Continue…

In a January 12 decision, Justice R.S. Smith struck the entire application filed by Citizens for Public Justice, the Saskatchewan Environmental Society, and several individual applicants, Kiké Dueck, a minor represented by litigation guardian Kris Dueck, along with Sherry Olson and Matthew Wiens, who asked the court to overturn the Saskatchewan government’s coal decision.

The application targeted a June 18, 2025, letter from Crown Investments Minister Jeremy Harrison to SaskPower employees announcing the government’s decision to life-extend two coal-powered generating stations.

The province says the move is necessary to maintain reliable and affordable electricity while Saskatchewan transitions toward nuclear baseload power through small modular reactors.

The applicants argued the decision increased greenhouse gas emissions and should be quashed through judicial review, claiming it was unreasonable, unlawful, and contrary to climate obligations.

The Trudeau government's use of the Emergencies Act in response to the Freedom Convoy protest was unconstitutional, the Federal Court of Appeal ruled.

The Federal Court of Appeal has unanimously affirmed a lower court ruling that found Justin Trudeau's use of the Emergencies Act in response to the Freedom Convoy protest was an unconstitutional action.

The ruling ends a lengthy legal process that began in 2022 when protesters from across Canada descended on Ottawa to oppose vaccine mandates and lockdowns imposed on the public in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After a lengthy-but-peaceful demonstration in the nation's capital, Trudeau, then prime minister, used the country's most extreme legal measure as his government invoked the Emergencies Act to bring a violent, forceful end to the protest in February 2022.

This decision was ruled unconstitutional by Justice Richard Mosely in January 2024, who wrote that due to the “nature” and “broad powers” of the act, it should only be used as “a tool of last resort.”

The government, he said, “cannot invoke the Emergencies Act because it is convenient or because it may work better than other tools at their disposal or available to the provinces.”

The justice also said “threats to the security of Canada,” a significant requirement built into the act, were not met.

Rebel News previously reported how the Liberal government spent at least $2 million attempting to appeal Mosley's ruling.

“When consulted a few hours before the Act was invoked, most provinces expressed the view that provincial capacity and authority were not exceeded,” the Federal Court of Appeal ruling said, noting “the invocation of the Act would be divisive, unconstructive and unnecessary.”

Despite assertions from the government the Freedom Convoy posed a dire national security threat, “these concerns, as troubling as they might have been, were found in the preceding section of these reasons to be insufficient to ground a reasonable belief that a threat to national security existed at the time.”

The justices also weighed in on trade disruptions created by simultaneous demonstrations occurring in Alberta at the Coutts border crossing and in Ontario at the Ambassador Bridge in Niagara Falls.

“The trade-related impacts of the protests were not without repercussions for commerce,” the ruling noted, but suggested this did not create a risk to health and safety that necessitated using the Emergencies Act.

A key portion of the decision hinged on the right of peaceful protest laid out in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The appeal court agreed with the initial ruling that found the government's use of the Emergencies Act was “overbroad” as it swept up peaceful protesters alongside those committing more serious infractions.

“Although such individuals would not likely have been the focus of enforcement efforts by the police, they could nevertheless have been subject to enforcement actions,” the appeal decision said.

“This led the Federal Court to find that the right to freedom of expression of individual protesters who did not participate in the disruption of the peace was thus infringed,” the justices acknowledged.

Federal Court Justice Richard Mosley's decision was upheld unanimously by three Federal Court of Appeal justices.

In a recent video post on X, Lawton said that the current Liberal federal government of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Bill C-9, or the Combating Hate Act, is an “attack” on people of faith.

“We need to act now and raise the stakes so much that the Liberals realize they cannot get away with attacking people of faith and all people in Canada who care about religious freedom in this way,” he said.

The new aircraft will replace the existing fleet of CH-146 Griffon helicopters currently used to support Joint Task Force Two and other special forces units

Canadian special forces will receive the first of a new fleet of helicopters starting in 2033, followed by other rotary aircraft to be ordered later for army units.

The federal government will start consultations with defence firms in the coming months on the new project, the Department of National Defence confirmed to the Ottawa Citizen.

The new aircraft will replace the existing fleet of CH-146 Griffon helicopters which are currently used to support the Joint Task Force Two special forces unit in Ottawa and special forces units in Petawawa and Trenton, Ont.

The Canadian Forces and DND declined to provide information on how many helicopters will be purchased in total.

“The first phase of the work is targeting the procurement of new helicopters to support the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command,” DND spokesperson Andrée-Anne Poulintold the Ottawa Citizen. “The second and third phases would procure Attack Reconnaissance and Medium Lift capabilities to support the Canadian Army.”

The Canadian military hopes to have the first of a new fleet of helicopters operating by 2033, according to a briefing obtained by the Ottawa Citizen.

The fleets will be fully operational by 2038.

The project, dubbed Next Tactical Aviation Capability Set or nTACS will see a “return to a balanced fleet concept,” according to the military briefing. More than $18 billion has been earmarked for the new helicopters.

The acquisition will address gaps in firepower, reconnaissance and surveillance as well as mobility, the document prepared for the aviation industry noted.

Trump Appoints Rubio, Witkoff, Kushner, And Blair To Gaza 'Board Of Peace'

The White House announced on Jan. 16 the names of members appointed to the Gaza Board of Peace, which President Donald Trump created as part of phase two of a U.S.-backed plan to end the war in Gaza.

Among the “founding executive board” members are U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The board also includes private equity executive Marc Rowan, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and U.S. national security adviser Robert Gabriel, according to a White House statement.

The board, to be chaired by Trump, will oversee the Palestinian technocratic committee—also known as the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG)—which will be led by former Palestinian Authority official Ali Abdel Hamid Shaath.

The White House said each of the members will be tasked with managing Gaza’s “governance capacity-building, regional relations, reconstruction, investment attraction, large-scale funding, and capital mobilization,” which it said are vital to the enclave’s stability and long-term success.

The administration also named Aryeh Lightstone and Josh Gruenbaum as senior advisers to manage the board’s daily strategy and operations, and appointed Nickolay Mladenov, a Bulgarian diplomat and former United Nations envoy to the Middle East, as the high representative for Gaza.

Trump also tapped Maj. Gen. Jasper Jeffers to lead the International Stabilization Force, which will oversee security operations and the safe delivery of humanitarian aid and reconstruction materials to Gaza.

The administration also announced a separate 11-member executive board, comprising some of the founding members, which will support both the technocratic committee and Mladenov’s office.

The executive board includes Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Qatari diplomat Ali Al-Thawadi, Major General Hassan Rashad - head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, UAE minister for international cooperation Reem Al-Hashimy, Israeli-Cypriot billionaire Yakir Gabay, and Dutch diplomat and U.N. envoy Sigrid Kaag.

It follows two Chinese-language videos released in May, which openly encouraged Chinese Communist Party officials to provide intelligence to the United States—an unprecedented move that drew widespread attention.

The new video focuses on operational security and offers nine practical steps for Chinese informants to minimize digital surveillance risks when contacting the agency.
