FBI Agent in Whitmer Kidnapping Case Dropped by Prosecution, Serious Anti-Trump Bias Discovered

An FBI agent who investigated the alleged plot to kidnap Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and who posted a profanity-laced diatribe against former President Donald Trump and his supporters on social media will not testify in the case.

Attorney Michael Hills, who is defending one of the people charged in the case, said federal prosecutors would not call on agent Richard Trask, according to The Detroit News.

Trask’s social media posts were shared with the defense this week.

“If you still support our piece of s* president you can f* off,” Trask posted on March 28, 2020.

“As someone whose wife works in the hospital I hope you burn in hell along with your douchebag f***ing reality tv star. His ego is going to kill a lot of people and anyone who supports that is a dumbass.

“This is what you get when you elect an [egotistical]/narcissistic maniac to the top office. He needs people to be nice to him or he won’t help. F*** you douche.”

Hills made the revelation during a hearing on Thursday.

“They’re slicing him out,” he told Judge Sally Berens. “They’re not calling him.”

The defense can still try to essentially subpoena Trask.

The agent was arrested in July on domestic violence charges and has been accused of slamming his wife’s head against a nightstand, according to the Washington Examiner.

The FBI is already on the hot seat in the alleged kidnapping case.

Undercover agents who infiltrated a group of men discussing a plan to abduct Whitmer played a key role in the development of the plot.

Hills had sought cellphone data from a paid informant identified as “Dan,” as well as from FBI special agents Henrik Impola and Jayson Chambers.

“These text messages indicate the F.B.I. was pushing their paid agent to actively recruit people into an overt act in furtherance of a conspiracy,” Hills wrote.

“Counsel has found further text messages between … Impola and Dan indicating Dan should destroy his text messages and instruct Dan to lie and accuse an innocent 3rd party of being a federal agent spy to the founder of Wolverine Watchmen,” Hills said, referring to the group involved in the plot.

“The F.B.I is instructing a paid F.B.I. informant to lie and paint an innocent citizen as an undercover federal agent to a man they claim is the head of a domestic terrorist organization, who they claim is paranoid about being infiltrated by the feds, who they claim has bragged about tossing a Molotov cocktail into a police officer’s house,” Hills continued.

“This behavior, evidenced by the telephonic communication between F.B.I. handler Impola and Dan, casts a dark shadow over the credibility of this investigation and demonstrates the need for immediate disclosure as demanded.”

Defendants in the case say they were targeted because of their political opinions and claim the government is guilty of possible entrapment.

They do not deny talking about a kidnapping plot, but contend it was never an operational plan.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), a fierce critic of the withdrawal from Afghanistan, insisted the U.S. will eventually send troops back to the country to deal with the threat of terror.

In an interview with the BBC, Graham praised former President Donald Trump for maintaining the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan. Trump himself pushed to withdraw from the country, but set the deadline for May 1, after President Joe Biden had taken office.

In a message on eve of new year, US president wishes Jews ‘health, healing and progress,’ stresses ironclad bond to State of Israel

US President Joe Biden issued a greeting to the Jewish community on Sunday, a day ahead of the Rosh Hashanah holiday, wishing those who celebrate “a year of health, healing, and progress.”

Biden noted that the High Holiday period, which begins with Rosh Hashanah on Monday evening, commands “those who celebrate to pause, look inward, and reflect on the past year. It is a time to undertake an inventory of the soul, a cheshbon hanefesh, and to ask of ourselves and of each other questions that go beyond our own individual faiths: Who do I want to be? What type of nation do we want to forge? What type of world do we want to create?”

The US president, who is marking the first Rosh Hashanah since he took office in January, said the Jewish new year is “a reminder of our infinite capacity to transform our lives and begin anew.”

He noted the opportunity “to rebuild our communities through empathy, acts of kindness, and compassion. To seek repentance, or teshuva, when we have fallen short of our values. Rosh Hashanah is a reaffirmation that we are each endowed, by virtue of our Creator and our common humanity, with the ability to bridge the gap between the world we see and the world we seek.”

Biden said while the United States has made “significant progress” toward those goals, there is plenty of work that remains, including the need to “speak out with clarity and conviction against antisemitism wherever and however it manifests.”

He also noted the need “to reaffirm our ironclad bond with the State of Israel.”

He ended with a wish to have the Hebrew year 5782 “be a year of health, healing, and progress” and extended his “warmest wishes to all those celebrating Rosh Hashanah in the United States, Israel, and around the world.”

Biden met with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett in the White House late last month.

In a call the president held with US Jewish leaders on Friday, Biden said his administration was “going to maintain those deep bonds that started at the birth of the Jewish state — a bond I had the honor of renewing with Prime Minister Bennett at the White House last week.”

During that call, Biden also said that the message of the High Holidays, “I’ve always believed, is universal.” The president said the central idea of “renewal” was at the heart of his 2020 presidential campaign.

“The High Holy Days also allow us to take collective responsibility for renewal,” he said. “I happen to be a practicing Catholic, and one of the things I like about my pope today is that he’s all about renewal and forgiveness.”

DOJ says it will 'protect' women seeking abortions in Texas

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday said it will protect women who are seeking abortions in the state of Texas amid turmoil following the passage of a controversial restrictive abortion law in the state.

In a press release, Attorney General Merrick Garland said the department will explore “all options” to challenge the new Texas law, adding that they will provide support for women in the Lone Star State who are still seeking abortions.

“The department will provide support from federal law enforcement when an abortion clinic or reproductive health center is under attack. We have reached out to U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and FBI field offices in Texas and across the country to discuss our enforcement authorities,” Garland said in the statement.

“We will not tolerate violence against those seeking to obtain or provide reproductive health services, physical obstruction or property damage in violation of the FACE Act,” he said.

The FACE Act prohibits the use or threat of force and physical obstruction that injures or interferes with a person who is seeking to obtain or provide reproductive services, according to the DOJ release.

The act, signed into law in 1994, also prohibits damage to a health facility that provides reproductive health services.

The Justice Department move comes amid the backlash surrounding Texas’s new abortion law which went into effect Wednesday.

The legislation, which was signed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) placed an effective ban on almost all abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is normally six weeks into a pregnancy.

The Supreme Court refused to block Texas’s new abortion law in a 5-4 vote Wednesday.

Let me see if I understand this properly. Person A feels that they need the vaccine to be protected, so they get vaccinated. However, Person A doesn't feel protected unless Person B also gets the vaccine. And if Person B refuses to get the vaccine, Person A shames them until they do.

Let's take this a step further. Person A, who is vaccinated, can still catch and transmit the virus, but is not subjected to going through daily/weekly testing. Person B, who is not vaccinated, and who can catch and transmit the virus, has to go through daily/weekly testing and potential quarantine. Why does Person A not have to go through testing and quarantine if they can still catch and transmit the virus?

And to go even further than that: Person A is vaccinated and, even though they can catch and transmit the virus, can walk into any number of locations that state they will only allow the vaccinated inside. Person B is not vaccinated and, even though they may test negative for the virus, are not allowed inside any of the locations that state they will only allow the vaccinated inside.

Wanna piece this together now? It boils simply down to segregation and discrimination with no real basis for doing so.

1. Person A is vaccinated.

2. Person B is not vaccinated.

3. Both Person A and Person B can catch and transmit the virus.

4. Person A does not have to get tested, but Person B does.

5. Person A can go wherever they want, but Person B cannot.

6. Person A is allowed to live their lives, while Person B cannot.

7. Person A perpetuates the shaming of Person B by stating that Person B needs to be vaccinated for Person A to be protected.

“Patients overdosing on ivermectin backing up rural Oklahoma hospitals, ambulances,” Maddow tweeted last week, quoting the headline of an article by NBC Oklahoma City affiliate KFOR. “’The scariest one I’ve heard of and seen is people coming in with vision loss,’ he said,” she continued, quoting Jason McElyea, the doctor who made the debunked claim.

The hospital system at the heart of the quickly confirmed that McElyea had not worked for their location in over two months, and was spreading false information: “With that said, Dr. McElyea has not worked at our Sallisaw location in over 2 months. NHS Sequoyah has not treated any patients due to complications related to taking ivermectin. This includes not treating any patients for ivermectin overdose.”

“All patients who have visited our emergency room have received medical attention as appropriate,” the statement continued. “Our hospital has not had to turn away any patients seeking emergency care. We want to reassure our community that our staff is working hard to provide quality healthcare to all patients. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify this issue and as always, we value our community’s support.”

Twitter continues to allow tweets promoting the debunked story to remain on its platform. Twittter often bans or restricts articles that it views as having a right-wing perspective under the guise of removing “misinformation,” but experts have pointed to the platform’s reticence to ban even the most extreme left-wing content as evidence of the website’s bias.

14-Mile Long Oil Spill In Gulf Of Mexico Investigated By Coast Guard

The US Coast Guard is responding to a 14-mile long oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico discovered in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, officials said Saturday according to Bloomberg. The spill, which consists of a 4-mile black sheen and a 10-mile rainbow sheen, is located in federal waters off Port Fourchon, Louisiana, said Sam Jones, head of the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator’s Office.

“That’s big,” Jones said in an interview on Saturday. “It’s the biggest one out there.”

The Coast Guard said in a statement that crude is believed to be coming from a pipeline owned by Houston-based oil and gas exploration company Talos Energy, adding the agency was in the preliminary stages of investigation. In response, Talos said that while it’s leading a response to the spill, it denied being responsible, saying the spill was coming from an unknown source in an area where it ceased production in 2017.

“Extensive field observations indicate that Talos assets are not the source,” the company said in a statement. “Talos will continue to work closely with the U.S. Coast Guard and other state and federal agencies to identify the source of the release and coordinate a successful response.”

Talos said it deployed two 95-foot response vessels to conduct oil recovery operations at the site as well as an additional vessel and divers to help locate the source.

The “big” spill wasn’t the only one: Jones said his agency had received 265 reports of spills and other incidents related to Ida, including 32 that appeared to be serious. Among them were two underwater pipelines, apparently transporting gas, and a gas well that blew in Three Bayou Bay in Jefferson Parish. The agency is investigating who owns those assets, Jones said.

Meanwhile, multiple releases of crude have been reported in the Gulf of Mexico, including one near an offshore rig in the gulf, according to the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. The agency has reported more than 100 incidents of spills and other toxic releases as Ida’s environmental impact in a petrochemical corridor packed with hazardous-chemical plants and refineries begins to become apparent.

“The type of accident we are seeing is preventable and shouldn’t be allowed to happen,” said Naomi Yoder, a staff scientist at Healthy Gulf, a New Orleans-based environmental group that has reported several spills to authorities in the wake of Ida. “Is it something we are going to be able to repair or is it something that will be a very long-term process?”

Hurricane Ivan in 2004 triggered an underwater oil spill that is still leaking, Yoder said.

Harvard epidemiologist says the case for COVID vaccine passports was just demolished

New research found that natural immunity offers exponentially more protection than COVID-19 vaccines.

A newly published medical study found that infection from COVID-19 confers considerably longer-lasting and stronger protection against the Delta variant of the virus than vaccines.

“The natural immune protection that develops after a SARS-CoV-2 infection offers considerably more of a shield against the Delta variant of the pandemic coronavirus than two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, according to a large Israeli study that some scientists wish came with a ‘Don’t try this at home’ label,” Science reported Thursday. “The newly released data show people who once had a SARS-CoV-2 infection were much less likely than vaccinated people to get Delta, develop symptoms from it, or become hospitalized with serious COVID-19.”

Put another way, vaccinated individuals were 27 times more likely to get a symptomatic COVID infection than those with natural immunity from COVID.

A death blow to vaccine passports?

The findings come as many governments around the world are demanding citizens acquire “vaccine passports” to travel. New York City, France, and the Canadian provinces of Quebec and British Columbia are among those who have recently embraced vaccine passports.

Meanwhile, Australia has floated the idea of making higher vaccination rates a condition of lifting its lockdown in jurisdictions, while President Joe Biden is considering making interstate travel unlawful for people who have not been vaccinated for COVID-19.

Vaccine passports are morally dubious for many reasons, not the least of which is that freedom of movement is a basic human right. However, vaccine passports become even more senseless in light of the new findings out of Israel and revelations from the CDC, some say.

Harvard Medical School professor Martin Kulldorff said research showing that natural immunity offers exponentially more protection than vaccines means vaccine passports are both unscientific and discriminatory, since they disproportionately affect working class individuals.

Jeff Bezos Seeks to 'Reprogram' Human Cells with New Investment: Report

A new report links Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to a group of scientists trying to find a technology roadmap to the Fountain of Youth.

The report Saturday in the MIT Technology Review features Altos Labs, a Silicon Valley company that is conducting anti-aging research.

“Some people briefed by the company have been told that its investors include Jeff Bezos,” the report said.

It said the former Amazon CEO, who has an estimated net worth of more than $200 billion, has a longstanding interest in research about aging.

The MIT Technology Review said that in his final letter to Amazon shareholders, Bezos — who recently went into space as a publicity gimmick for a space tourism business he wants to grow — quoted musings about life and death published by biologist Richard Dawkins in a book titled “The Blind Watchmaker.”

“Staving off death is a thing that you have to work at,” Bezos wrote then, adding, “More generally, if living things didn’t work actively to prevent it, they would eventually merge into their surroundings, and cease to exist as autonomous beings. That is what happens when they die.”

Altos Labs will include on its staff researcher Shinya Yamanaka, who in 2012 shared a Nobel Prize for his work on reprogramming,

“Although there are many hurdles to overcome, there is huge potential,” Yamanaka said.

The quest to defeat aging is drawing attention — and cash.

“There are hundreds of millions of dollars being raised by investors to invest in reprogramming, specifically aimed at rejuvenating parts or all of the human body,” said David Sinclair, a researcher at Harvard University, according to the MIT Technology Review.

“What else can you do that can reverse the age of the body?” he said. “In my lab we are ticking off the major organs and tissues, for instance skin, muscle and brain — to see which we can rejuvenate.”

Manuel Serrano, a researcher in genetic engineering who will leave a position at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine, in Barcelona, Spain, to work for Altos Labs, said profits are not the short-term goal.

“The philosophy of Altos Labs is to do curiosity-driven research. This is what I know how to do and love to do,” Serrano said. “In this case, through a private company, we have the freedom to be bold and explore. In this way it will rejuvenate me.”

“The aim is to understand rejuvenation,” he said. “I would say the idea of having revenue in the future is there, but it’s not the immediate goal.”

Alejandro Ocampo, a professor at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, is an admitted skeptic, according to the report.

“I think the concept is strong, but there is a lot of hype. It’s far away from translation,” he said, noting that reprogramming cells causes vast changes not fully understood. “It’s risky and it’s a long way from a human therapy.”

Ocampo said money is being thrown around too soon.

Belarus Continues to Crack Down on Independent Media

Belarus authorities continue to keep the editor of the country’s oldest weekly and one of the last independent news outlets in the country incarcerated and have closed down the national journalist association in what is being seen as part of an ongoing crackdown on media.

Andrej Skurko, editor of Naša Niva, was jailed in July for “organizing or taking an active part in group actions grossly disturbing public order,” according to the charges levied against him. His elderly parents have appealed on authorities to release him as they and his 18-month-old son depend on his support, the country’s journalists association said Friday.

However, the same association — the Belarrusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) — just like the Belarusian PEN Center, the Office for the Rights of Disabled People, the National Youth Council, the Belarus Press Club, organizations concentrating on gender rights, as well as those that help elderly people, have been among the dozens of organizations slated for liquidation by Alexander Lukashenko’s regime as part of a crackdown on media and civil society that started after the country’s election last summer.

“After organizing fraudulent elections to keep himself in power, the Belarusian dictator, Alexander Lukashenko, proceeds to an outright liquidation of all sectors of Belarusian civil society,” the President of the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), Mogens Blicher Bjerregård, said in a statement.

Last week international institutions strongly condemned the Belarus Supreme Court’s ruling to shut down the BAJ.

“Amid continuing massive violations of the right to freedom of expression and media freedom in Belarus, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Teresa Ribeiro, deplored the decision of the authorities to shut down the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ),” Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe said in a statement.

The Minsk-based court’s decision to liquidate the BAJ is part of the “unprecedented repression of the state” against independent media organizations and journalists in Belarus, which started following the country’s 2020 presidential elections, according to BAJ.

The persecution of the BAJ started in June this year when the Justice Ministry launched an audit and asked the “to provide thousands of administrative and financial documents on its activities, including lists of its members, covering the last three years,” according to BAJ. The deadline was the same day.

The association said it managed to deliver the documentation but the Ministry still asked for the BAJ to be closed, citing insufficient addresses of a few association’s branches as violations of the law.

“This closure is part of the systematic and continued repression of all independent voices in the country,” the European Union said in a statement, reminding that 27 media workers were among the 649 Belarusians who have been recognised as political prisoners.

EZAZ.org, a civic action group based in Phoenix, Arizona organized volunteers to review the new manual.
