YouTube Cracks Down on Prayer: Videos Removed if People 'Pray' for Covid Healing in Place of Medical Treatment

Google-owned YouTube has wandered into a whole new territory of censorial practice in its attempt to limit content that contradicts the global public health community’s guidance about COVID-19.
Now, not only could going against the infallible findings of the almighty World Health Organization result in a removed video, but if you deign to encourage your viewers to seek out prayer or faith healing instead of going to a doctor or a hospital, this will also be considered verboten.
“The safety of our creators, viewers, and partners is our highest priority. We look to each of you to help us protect this unique and vibrant community. It’s important you understand our Community Guidelines, and the role they play in our shared responsibility to keep YouTube safe,” Google’s COVID-19 medical misinformation policy for YouTube reads.
“YouTube doesn’t allow content about COVID-19 that poses a serious risk of egregious harm,” the policy explains.
This includes “content that spreads medical misinformation that contradicts local health authorities’ or the World Health Organization’s (WHO) medical information about COVID-19” on treatment, prevention, diagnosis, transmission, social distancing and self-isolation guidelines, and the existence of COVID-19.
So, let this alone sink in for a moment.
Sure, at face value it sounds like a good idea to prevent the spread of inaccurate information about the virus on such a large platform.
But consider it this way: YouTube will not allow content that includes anything that contradicts the guidance of a global organization that bases its findings on “science.” So if anyone at all were to come forward and say, give a lecture or a media interview that presented a disparate view from that of the WHO, a video of their arguments would not be accessible on the world’s largest video-sharing network.
As far as Google is concerned, this includes “Content that encourages the use of home remedies, prayer, or rituals in place of medical treatment such as consulting a doctor or going to the hospital,” as well as content that recommends using ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine, questions the efficacy of masks in preventing the spread of COVID-19, claims wearing a mask can have negative health effects, or includes claims “about COVID-19 vaccinations that contradict expert consensus from local health authorities or WHO.”

How many bits does it take to kill a human?
The H1N1 virus has been comprehensively disassembled (sequenced) and logged into the NCBI Influenza Virus Resource database. To ground this in a specific example, six bits stored as “ATG” on your hard drive (DNA) is loaded into RAM (RNA) as “AUG” (remember the T->U transcription). When the RNA program in RAM is executed, “AUG” is translated to a pixel (amino acid) of color “M”, or methionine (which is incidentally the biological “start” codon, the first instruction in every valid RNA program). As a short-hand, since DNA and RNA are 1:1 equivalent, bioinformaticists represent gene sequences in DNA format, even if the biological mechanism is in RNA format (as is the case for Influenza–more on the significance of that later!).
OK, back to the main point of this post. The particular RNA subroutine mentioned above codes for the HA gene which produces the Hemagglutinin protein: in particular, an H1 variety. This is the “H1” in the H1N1 designation.

I haven’t been tracking the latest efforts on the part of computer virus writers, but if there was a computer analogy to this RNA-shuffling model, it would be a virus that distributes itself in the form of unlinked object code files plus a small helper program that, upon infection in a host, would first re-link its files in a random order before copying and redistributing itself. In addition to doing this, it would search for similar viruses that may already be infecting that computer, and it would on occasion link in object code with matching function templates from the other viruses. This re-arrangement and novel re-linking of the code itself would work to foil certain classes of anti-virus software that searches for virus signatures based on fixed code patterns. It would also cause a proliferation of a diverse set of viruses in the wild, with less predictable properties.

Thanks to the extraordinary progress on gay rights in the U.S. military in recent years, images that were once hard to imagine are now becoming more common.
In December, for example, we saw a lesbian couple marking a time-honored Navy homecoming tradition with a celebrated "first kiss." Rather than being embarrassed by the display, the Navy posted the image on its official military website.
More recently, there's the above image of a gay pride flag flying at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan. Though some of the details which base, the identity of the man in the picture are unclear, news accounts suggest the photo was posted to Facebook by Nicole Jodice, whose husband is reportedly serving in Afghanistan.
Though the authenticity of the image has not yet been verified, I was nevertheless struck by the response published by Family Research Council president Tony Perkins, who argued that the pride flag represents a security risk (via ThinkProgress).
"Where is the concern now for angering Afghan Muslims, who vehemently oppose homosexuality? The issue is as much an issue of military security as it is of religious morality. After February's accident with the Korans, American lives were lost. What price will we pay because some want to use the military to show their gay pride?"
I'm curious: since when does Tony Perkins think we should appease the cultural beliefs of Afghan Muslims? Some of these same Afghans might vehemently oppose the ongoing presence of U.S. troops in their country, too. Does the Family Research Council think we should avoid flying the American flag out of fear this might offend them?
Or is it more likely Perkins doesn't want to see a gay pride flag in Afghanistan or anywhere else because he doesn't like gay people?
