Triple-Digit Heat Dome Bakes Pacific Northwest, Triggers First Blackout

The Pacific Northwest is experiencing a multi-day heat wave that we said last week would be "historic." The unrelenting triple-digit temperatures shattered records across the region and have stressed out power grids where rolling blackouts have been reported.

Bloomberg reports Avista Corporation, which supplies electricity to 340,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers, triggered its first rolling blackout across its grid after it became overloaded Monday evening. Rotating outages first hit 9,300 customers late Monday and could expand as temperatures remain well above average through July 4.

Avista was the first major utility to report rolling blackouts in the Northwest region, and with positive temperature anomalies to linger through the week, it may not be the last.

Avista has never "experienced this kind of demand on our system and this kind of impact to our system," Heather Rosentrater, senior vice president of energy delivery at the utility company, told reporters during a press conference Monday. She called the weather event "very unprecedented."

As we noted last Friday, "a "historic" heat wave was set to transform the Pacific Northwest into a furnace this weekend. It has the potential to shatter long-standing temperature records." And that is precisely what it did.

Major metros, such as Portland and Seattle, broke record highs by huge margins as positive temperature anomalies reached between 30 to 40 degrees.

WikiLeaks draws liberal ire after it compares Tucker Carlson to Assange as Fox host accuses NSA of SPYING on him

WikiLeaks came under fire after tweeting in solidarity with Fox’s Tucker Carlson, who recently aired a segment claiming that the NSA had illegally spied on him, as supporters demanded an investigation into the claim.

The anti-secrecy group took to Twitter on Monday to share a section of Carlson’s show from earlier in the evening, adding the caption: “Spying on and coercing journalists is not a new [phenomenon] #Assange #TuckerCarlson.”

In the segment, the Fox pundit alleged that a government “whistleblower” had contacted his team to relay a warning that the NSA is “monitoring our electronic communications, and is planning to leak them in an attempt to take this show off the air.”

Carlson said that the whistleblower, whose name or position were not given, also passed along information about a story he is currently working on, which he argued could only have come directly from his own texts and emails.

“The NSA captured that information without our knowledge and did it for political reasons. The Biden administration is spying on us. We have confirmed that,” Carlson said, adding: “Spying on opposition journalists is incompatible with democracy.”

WikiLeaks’ designation of Carlson as a “journalist,” however, did not go over well with his mostly liberal critics, who shot back that the Fox host is more of an “entertainer” than a factual reporter of news.

Some detractors went even further, labeling Carlson a purveyor of not mere entertainment, but “white supremacy propaganda,” though they left that term undefined. Another netizen asked whether he could be considered “comparable” to WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange, who was mentioned alongside Carlson in the group’s tweet.

Gain-of-Function Advocate’s Partner Serves On Lancet’s COVID-19 Committee.

A longtime research partner of Dr. Ralph Baric – a Wuhan Institute of Virology collaborator who’s advised on how to “make money” from pandemics – remains on the Lancet journal’s COVID-19 commission.

Dr. Timothy Sheahan’s position on the Vaccines and Therapeutics committee of the Lancet task force, which recently recused EcoHealth Alliance President Peter Daszak, represents yet another conflict of interest for the Chinese Communist Party-linked commission.

Sheahan has worked alongside Baric for nearly two decades, including working at his lab while in graduate school and later teaching at the same institution: the University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health.

“In 2003, he came to UNC Chapel Hill for graduate school joining the laboratory of Ralph Baric to study how the recently emerged SARS coronavirus had jumped from wild animals into humans,” Sheahan’s bio notes. After working for pharmaceutical industry giants such as GlaxoSmithKline, Sheahan returned to UNC to serve as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology, where Baric also teaches and conducts “gain-of-function” research with his “longtime collaborators” at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

“Long before the novel coronavirus began its spread across the world, Ralph Baric and Timothy Sheahan were suiting up in full-body protective equipment,” a profile on the researchers notes. The October 2020 article documents the pair’s robust collaboration on coronavirus research and joint “partnerships” with pharmaceutical companies:

Sheahan has been interested in coronaviruses for a long time as well. The 2002 SARS outbreak caught his attention while working as a lab technician at Harvard Medical School and Mass General Hospital. At the time, he’d already been researching graduate schools and soon stumbled across the Baric Lab. He began working there as a Ph.D. student in 2003. Now an assistant professor, Sheahan continues to collaborate with Baric, studying coronaviruses and, specifically, striving to create vaccines and drugs to stop them.

Thanks to a partnership with biotech company Gilead Sciences, Baric and Sheahan were already testing a drug to combat coronavirus replication before the one that causes COVID-19 hit the world. Remdesivir was first used as an antiviral to treat patients with Ebola virus, and it was Sheahan and Baric who discovered that it could also work against all coronaviruses they tested, including SARS-CoV-2. Their studies supported the use of remdesivir in the first U.S. COVID-19 patient.

Beyond Sheahan’s ties to the pharmaceutical industry appearing to pose a conflict of interest, his longstanding relationship with Baric also calls into question his role on the Lancet committee.

The publication Unherd ran a very revealing article headlined, “How Brahmins lead the fight against white privilege,” describing how elite Indians embrace “radical” leftist politics in America. Kamala Harris’ uncle Gopalan Balachandran is listed by the Journal of Defense Management as “a Consulting Fellow at the IDSA,” though the press has recently referred to him as a “former” consultant for the IDSA. The IDSA stands for “Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses” (IDSA), which is a think tank in New Delhi that is funded by the Indian Ministry of Defence.

China’s ambassador to India held a meeting at IDSA in New Delhi in June of this year to urgently discuss India-China relations. Balachandran’s 2013 archived IDSA bio lists him as a “Consulting Fellow at the IDSA.” The investigative blog Mining Awareness reported that Balachandran wrote for the IDSA as recently as 2019 and informally advised the think tank as recently as 2020.

Uncle Gopalan’s Journal of Defense Management bio also lists another example of direct employment by the Indian government, stating, “He is a Consultant both to the Americas Division of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and to the Confederation of Indian Industry.” Uncle Gopalan has been active in the press on Kamala’s behalf, even talking to CNN on the phone.

Though Frieden received over 9,000 likes and 2,000 retweets on Twitter, many commenters also criticized and ridiculed the ex-health official over the claim.

The Delta variant was first identified in India in late 2020, and it is yet to be fully understood how well the available vaccines can protect against it. While some manufacturers and studies have said the jabs should be effective enough, the most popular argument being made is that even if they fail to shield against the virus, the severity of the disease would be greatly reduced.

However, it’s not what Frieden wrote – and while some rolled their eyes over the bluntness of the statement, others wondered if the ex-official even understood how heat-seeking missiles and coronavirus work.

Federal judge tosses Bronx gun case over racial makeup of grand jury

A federal judge in Manhattan tossed an indictment against a Bronx shooting suspect because of a lack of racial diversity in the White Plains grand jury pool — the first such ruling since city cases were moved to the suburban county amid the pandemic.

Judge Analisa Torres sided with defendant William Scott, who had argued that black and Hispanic people were underrepresented in the grand jury pool that returned an indictment against him in June of last year.

Scott was charged with possessing ammunition in connection to a shooting in the Bronx, but was charged in the Southern District of New York’s White Plains division.

His attorney had argued that because Scott was charged in the White Plains division — instead of the district’s more diverse Manhattan division — prosecutors excluded potential jurors from southern counties of the district.

“Defendant has produced clear statistical evidence of underrepresentation of Black and Latinx individuals in the pool from which his grand jury was drawn, and a jury selection process that was susceptible to abuse,” Torres wrote in the opinion.

Prosecutors had stated they charged the case in the White Plains division “amidst a global pandemic that suspended grand juries across the country,” according to the opinion.

But, Torres wrote, prosecutors did not argue a Manhattan grand jury was unavailable and noted that a separate one was convened there days before Scott’s indictment.

Torres’ decision was the first time a judge tossed an indictment since prosecutors began charging city cases in the White Plains division amid the pandemic, a source said.

Scott’s indictment was dismissed immediately after the opinion, but prosecutors have the ability to seek another indictment against him within 60 days.

Iraq Condemns Joe Biden Bombings as ‘Flagrant Violation of Iraqi Sovereignty’

The government of Iraq condemned President Joe Biden on Monday for bombing sites within the country, and within Syria, to allegedly combat the threat of Iran-backed militias in the area.

Iraqi officials called the move a “flagrant violation of Iraqi sovereignty” and a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense asserted that the country is “studying resorting to all available legal options to prevent the recurrence of such attacks” on its territory.

The condemnation follows a similar statement from the regime of Iran-backed dictator Bashar al-Assad in Syria, which used almost identical language to condemn the “blatant violation of the sanctity of the Syrian and Iraqi territories.”

The U.S. Department of Defense announced late Sunday Biden had ordered airstrikes on the border between Iraq and Syria, hitting both countries.

“The targets were selected because these facilities are utilized by Iran-backed militias that are engaged in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks against U.S. personnel and facilities in Iraq,” the Pentagon explained in a statement, claiming that the targets aided two Iran-backed terrorist organizations, the Hezbollah Brigades and Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada (KSS), that had targeted American forces.

The two groups form part of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), a coalition of militias created in Iraq to fight the Islamic State (ISIS). The PMF is a legal wing of the Iraqi military and the Pentagon has previously praised it for its prowess in fighting the terrorist group. The Department of Defense also insisted under former President Donald Trump that fighting the PMF is not part of its mission in the Middle East.

Under Trump, the Hezbollah Brigades lost its founder, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, in an airstrike in Baghdad that also eliminated senior Iranian military leader Major General Qassem Soleimani in January 2020. At the time, Biden accused Trump of tossing “a stick of dynamite into a tinderbox” and stated that he would not have approved the airstrike.

The Pentagon insisted in its statement on Sunday that American forces are “in Iraq at the invitation of the Government of Iraq for the sole purpose of assisting the Iraqi Security Forces in their efforts to defeat ISIS.” The Islamic State is not an Iran-backed terrorist organization and the targets of the airstrike are members of the Iraqi Security Forces.

United Nations Human Rights Chief Releases Report Calling for Reparations as a Way to Address Anti-Black Racism

The murder of George Floyd last year was the unexpected catalyst for the current state of race relations not only in America, but the world as well. His death spurred a historic report by the human rights chief for the United Nations that is calling on countries to fight harder against anti-Black racism and to “make amends” with those communities through various means, including reparations.

According to NBC News, the report by Michelle Bachelet—the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights—examined 190 deaths that came as a result of police shootings to demonstrate how police officers are very rarely held accountable for rights violations against Black people. The report was commissioned last year after the video of Floyd being murdered by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. The report wasn’t limited to just the United States, as it also went into the issues of systemic racism in countries such as Brazil, Canada, France, and several others.

“We could not find a single example of a state that has fully reckoned with the past or comprehensively accounted for the impacts of the lives of people of African descent today,” Mona Rishmawi, who leads a non-discrimination unit at the U.N. human rights office, said in a news conference. “Our message, therefore, is that this situation is untenable.”

The report aims to speed up action by countries to end racial injustice; end impunity for rights violations by police; ensure that people of African descent and those who speak out against racism are heard; and face up to past wrongs through accountability and redress.

“I am calling on all states to stop denying — and start dismantling — racism; to end impunity and build trust; to listen to the voices of people of African descent; and to confront past legacies and deliver redress,” Bachelet said in a video statement.

While broaching the issue of reparation in her most explicit way yet, Bachelet suggested that monetary compensation alone is not enough and would be part of an array of measures to help rectify or make up for the injustices.

“Reparations should not only be equated with financial compensation,” she wrote, adding that it should include restitution, rehabilitation, acknowledgement of injustices, apologies, memorialization, educational reforms and “guarantees” that such injustices won’t happen again.

Principal Brief Filed in Case Against FCC “OTARD” Rule Amendment Which Allows 5G/IoT Antennas on Private Property

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has catered to the telecom and cable industries for decades (see 1, 2). Lawsuits have been filed against it for NOT protecting the public from unsafe levels of cell phone and WiFi radiation as well as 5G on Earth (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and in space.

Children’s Health Defense (CHD) filed a lawsuit and emergency injunction against the agency’s amended “OTARD Rule” which allows private property owners to install 5G and WiFi antennas that broadcast into neighborhoods without obtaining a permit or notifying anybody. On June 23, Children’s Health Defense (CHD) filed the opening brief in its case against the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) “Over-the-Air Reception Devices” (OTARD) Rule Amendment, which went into effect March 29. This submission is the main brief for CHD in the case it filed on Feb. 2 in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit.

CHD is opposing the OTARD rule amendment, which allows fixed wireless companies to contract with private property owners, including homeowners, to place point-to-point antennas on their property. The rule also allows wireless companies to add carrier-grade base station antenna installations on private property to extend wireless voice/video/data service, including 5G and Internet-of-Things antennas, to users over a wide area.

The amended rule, which purports to facilitate fast deployment of wireless networks, preempts all state and local zoning laws that would otherwise apply. No application, permit or notice to neighboring properties is required. Homeowners’ association and deed restrictions are also preempted.

“The rule effectively transforms residential areas into radiation-saturated industrialized zones and creates a wireless ‘Wild West,’” explained Dafna Tachover, an attorney and the director of CHD’s 5G and Wireless Harms Project who has been leading CHD’s campaign against the rule amendment.

RESEARCH: Dandelion leaf extract blocks spike proteins from binding to the ACE2 cell surface receptor

The engineered spike proteins from SARS-CoV-2 can be STOPPED by a common “weed” that is exterminated from lawns every year. A German university study found that the common dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) can block spike proteins from binding to the ACE2 cell surface receptors in human lung and kidney cells. The water-based dandelion extract, taken from the plant’s dried leaves, was effective against spike protein D614 and a host of mutant strains, including D614G, N501Y, K417N and E484K.

The researchers used high molecular weight compounds taken from a water-based dandelion extract and put them to the test in human HEK293-hACE2 kidney and A549-hACE2-TMPRSS2 lung cells. The dandelion blocked the protein-to-protein interactions between the S1 sub unit of the spike protein and the human ACE2 cell surface receptor. This effect was also true against the spike protein mutations from the predominant variants in circulation, including the United Kingdom (B.1.1.7), South African (B.1.351) and Brazilian (P.1) variant.

The dandelion extract stopped SARS-CoV-2 spike pseudotyped lentivirus particles from attaching to lung cells and stopped an inflammatory process called interleukin-6 secretion. Because the study was conducted in vitro, further clinical studies are needed to understand how the dandelion extract is absorbed and utilized in biological systems of the human body.

Neohesperidin, a derivative of hesperetin, is a flavanone glycoside also found in citrus fruits. Glycyrrhizin is a molecular compound extracted from licorice root. All three of these natural substances also block spike proteins from binding to ACE2 receptors. Hydroalcoholic pomegranate peel extract blocks the spike protein at the ACE2 receptor with 74 percent efficacy. When its principal constituents were tested separately, punicalagin was 64 percent effective, and ellagic acid was 36% percent effective.

Abu Dhabi Begins Using Facial Recognition Cameras to Detect COVID-19

Authorities in Abu Dhabi have deployed facial recognition cameras throughout shopping malls and even in residential areas under the justification that they can “detect COVID-19.”

“The technology allegedly detects the virus through electromagnetic waves, which ideally change due to the presence of the RNA particles in the body of an infected person,” reports Reclaim the Net.

The government claims that a trial of the technology involving 20,000 participants achieved a high degree of effectiveness and has a 93.5% accuracy in identifying infected individual.

According to the EDE Research Institute, which created the technology, “The EDE scanning system will be used at shopping malls, as part of testing in some residential areas, and land and air entry points, as part of efforts to enhance precautionary measures and curb the spread of Covid-19 by establishing safe zone.”

This is yet another example of how the pandemic has been exploited by governments to rapidly advance a bio-security police state under the guise of stopping the spread of the virus.
