UN criticizes use of child soldiers after Burkina Faso govt says massacre of over 130 people was carried out by kids

The United Nations (UN) has condemned the use of child soldiers after reports from Burkina Faso that a recent attack, in which over 130 people were killed in mass shootings and home raids, was carried out by kids as young as 12.

Spokesperson for the Burkinabe government, Ousseni Tamboura, said information gleaned during interrogations after the attack indicated that most of the assailants of the brutal attack on Solhan village were youths aged between just 12 and 14.

In response to the authorities’ claims, the UN branch dedicated to the rights and wellbeing of children, UNICEF, condemned the recruitment of child soldiers by terrorist groups as a “grave violation of their fundamental rights.”

The brutal attack on the northern village of Solhan occurred late at night on June 4, with the assault continuing into June 5. The perpetrators destroyed homes, set a market ablaze and shot scores of residents. According to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), around 3,300 people managed to flee the unfolding attack in Solhan.

The official death toll stands at 132 fatalities, but the total number is reported to be over 160, with around 20 children among the deceased.

While no one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, the Burkinabe government has said it suspects that Al-Qaeda sympathizers, specifically the Group to Support Islam and Muslims (JNIM), are responsible.

Burkina Faso has been plagued by an increase in terrorist attacks by Jihadi groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda for several years.

An estimated 40% of all child soldiers globally operate in Africa. It has been theorized that the reasons for deploying child soldiers are that they are seen as more “dispensible” than adults and often show greater loyalty to commanders than adults.

Since 2019, more than 1.2 million people living in Burkina Faso have been expelled from their homes due to turbulent conditions in the country. Over 80% of those displaced this year alone are women or children, according to the UNHCR.

John McAfee’s lawyer says anti-virus tycoon showed no indication he would take his own life

The lawyer for anti-virus software tycoon John McAfee – who was found dead in his Spanish jail cell on Wednesday while awaiting extradition to the United States – says he saw no indication the businessman wanted to kill himself.

Javier Villalba told Reuters on Thursday that he “had constant telephone contact” with McAfee and “at no point had he shown any special worry or clue that could let us think this could have happened.”

Villalba added that McAfee’s death was particularly painful “because it was not justified under any circumstance that this man remained in the jail.”

McAfee had been incarcerated in Barcelona, Spain since October last year as the United States sought his extradition for alleged tax evasion. McAfee was found dead in his cell just hours after the Spanish National Court approved his transfer to the US.

Conspiracy theories surrounding McAfee’s death have since blown up on social media, due to previous statements by the businessman which warned that if he is found dead of an apparent suicide “a la Epstein” in the future, he was “whackd.”

On Father’s Day, several days before McAfee’s death, his wife Janice McAfee published a statement claiming that the US government wanted her husband to “die in prison” to “make an example of him for speaking out against corruption within their government agencies.”

“There is no hope for him ever having a fair trial in America because there is no longer any justice in America,” she declared, before concluding that the eight months her husband had spent in jail had been “hard on his overall health both mentally and physically.”

Earlier this month, John McAfee had tweeted that he had “nothing” left financially, despite the US government thinking he has “hidden” cryptocurrency.

“I wish I did but it has dissolved through the many hands of Team McAfee (your belief is not required), and my remaining assets are all seized,” he said, claiming his friends had also “evaporated through fear of association.”

“I have nothing. Yet, I regret nothing,” McAfee concluded.

McAfee faced up to 30 years in prison in the US if found guilty of tax evasion.

Former US President Bill Clinton claims he suffered from a ‘cancel culture’ attack perpetrated by the Republican Party, before the tactics became popular with the liberals.

The question of how social media propagation is enabling cancel culture today, often not in a helpful way, was brought up during Clinton’s interview with the British TV channel ITV. The ex-president lamented that there was a “problem of cloudy definitions” present, before ironically giving a pretty vague remark about his personal experience.

“The first canceling I ever lived with throughout my life was the canceling that people on the Right tried to do to people who weren't,” Clinton said. “Then it became tempting when the demographics changed to go the other way.”

He then contemplated how “criticism works better than canceling” because it is supposed to come from a place of good faith and help the subject of criticism to become better.

Clinton was speaking alongside writer James Patterson about a fiction book the two men co-authored and were promoting during the interview, which was aired on Wednesday.

With Clinton failing to specify who the Republicans tried to cancel during his presidential tenure, one can only speculate. The Republican-controlled House impeached him for perjury and obstruction of justice during an investigation into his affair with a White House intern, but the Senate refused to convict and remove him from office.

Cancel culture is generally understood as a modern form of ostracism that was made possible by the spread of social media, which empowered the common folk to voice their anger against particular individuals. It is hailed by some for giving a chance to the oppressed to hold accountable those who would previously be shielded by their power and wealth. Others say it’s often nothing more than cyberbullying by self-righteous online mobs that can ruin the lives of people, who hold no actual influence, over even minor slights committed decades ago.

Biden shared a video featuring Dr. Anthony Fauci speaking about the rise of the Delta variant, pointing out young people were “most at risk” of getting the virus because they were not vaccinated yet.

“Younger people are less likely to be vaccinated. That puts the entire cohort of young people at greater risk,” Fauci said.

The Biden White House is struggling to convince young American adults to get vaccinated, as they failed to meet their July 4th goal of getting 70 percent of American adults vaccinated.

Fauci said in the video that coronavirus vaccines were over 90 percent effective at protecting people from getting hospitalized by the virus.

“The way to stop the delta variant is to get vaccinated,” he said.

The delta variant of the coronavirus was first discovered in India and is spreading around the world, as U.S. government health officials warn that it may also spread in the United States.

The White House Twitter account quickly deleted a video of Anthony Fauci pushing Americans to get vaccinated against COVID-19 in response to the emerging “Delta Variant,” re-posting an edited version of the video excluding a portion where Fauci instructs vaccinated people to “avoid congregate settings” with unvaccinated people.

Posted to Joe Biden’s official Twitter account, the original June 24th post included Fauci answering the following question:

Hundreds of DOCTORS get covid-19 AFTER being vaccinated, with dozens hospitalized

Indonesia is seeing a new wave of hospitalizations, as hospital bed capacity reaches 90 percent. More than 350 healthcare workers have tested positive for covid-19, despite being vaccinated earlier this year. Dozens of vaccinated doctors are now hospitalized. The so-called “efficacy” of the vaccination protocol is already wearing off, putting the vaccine guinea pigs at greater risk to the latest coronavirus variants.

Badai Ismoyo, head of the health office in the district of Kudus, says many of the vaccinated doctors are isolating at home and getting better. However, dozens of these vaccinated doctors are hospitalized with high fevers and are experiencing low oxygen-saturation levels. Some are being wheeled into the ICU.

Fully vaccinated Indonesian healthcare workers are being hospitalized en masse

At the capitol of Jakarta, radiologist Dr. Prijo Sidipratomo reports there have been at least half a dozen doctors hospitalized with COVID-19 in the past month alone, despite being fully vaccinated. The healthcare workers are now concerned that the vaccinations are failing. “It is alarming for us because we cannot rely on vaccinations only,” said Dr. Sidipratomo.

At first, the vaccines appeared to work, to some degree. The number of Indonesian healthcare workers who died from COVID-19 dropped sharply from 158 in January to 13 in May. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, a senior health ministry official, has refused to comment on the number of vaccinated healthcare workers who have passed away in 2021. However, there have been at least six confirmed cases of hospital staff dying with symptoms of covid-19 post-vaccination – including one nurse and five doctors. The number of doctor deaths post-vaccination do not seem to be as important as the number of doctors who passed away since this bioweapon experiment began.

Mass vaccination campaigns are pressuring new variants into existence, causing new fatalities

Kudus is home to nearly 5,000 healthcare workers. In January, front-line healthcare workers were given top priority for the covid-19 experimental vaccines. Indonesia is using the emergency use Sinovac vaccine, which was developed in Beijing.

Worse yet, after the mass vaccination campaigns began, covid-19 cases suddenly became labeled “covid-19 variants” as “breakthrough cases” began appearing in the vaccinated populations. Now the general population is dealing with new “variants” that have mutated into existence post-vaccination. This crisis will only grow worse as the health of the innate immune system is suppressed and neglected.

As the US is pulling out of Afghanistan, Western media has been full of stories warning that the Afghan government will collapse shortly after the US leaves. On Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal cited anonymous officials who said US intelligence assessed that Kabul could fall within six to 12 months of a US pullout.

While mainstream media reports citing anonymous officials are not the most trustworthy sources, the story is notable because hawks want to use what they see as an inevitable collapse of the Afghan government as a reason for the US to stay and prolong the war. But the fact the Afghan government is ready to fall after almost 20 years of the US funneling money into building it up demonstrates the futility of the war and is a better argument for why the US must get out.

The Journal report said US intelligence updated a more positive assessment based on recent gains by the Taliban. The Pentagon has suggested that it could slow the “pace” of its withdrawal due to recent Taliban advancements. But a prolonged US presence would only incentivize the Taliban to launch more attacks, and it would put US troops in danger. Since the US-Taliban peace deal was signed in Doha in February 2020, no US troops have died in combat in Afghanistan.

The optics of the US withdrawing as the Taliban is making large gains does not look good for Washington. President Biden created the current situation by pushing back the original May 1st withdrawal deadline to September 11th. Before May, violence was raging, but the Taliban had not made moves to take such significant territory.

Pushing back the withdrawal also delayed potential intra-Afghan peace talks. The chance of the Taliban and Kabul finding a diplomatic solution may be small, but the one thing that guarantees it won’t happen is a continued US presence. The US’s post-withdrawal plans to have Turkish troops guard the Kabul airport might also fuel more violence since the Taliban see a continued foreign presence as a violation of the Doha agreement.
