Quick summary of last bread

We made sudden progress around the EMB pics being on or about 2013 Christmas (+/- 1 day) was made while digging for open source stock photos on the pink/purple building seen at Albert Embankment in the 24LONDON pic match for MILLBANK lights. About the same time, an anon also found that picture match (pic dated 22DEC2013) for the sidewalk sign board seen in ROT1. Then came the Getty stock pics of Christmas which match the MILLBANK lights. Since then, we had been trying to use process of elimination to remove rainy/bad weather days from consideration because our Q pics show dry conditions for the most part. That involved looking at he weather and wind conditions during Christmas week.

Currently we are taking a break from EMB to turn fresh eyes on Piccadilly.

Re the RED BUS pic, I think you mentioned that schools had probly just let out. And so we have mothers possibly picking up their kids from school, not much evidence of holiday shopping. I can make out one bag that seems opaque, semi-transparent, nothing fancy like holiday-themed bags.

Am thinking RED BUS is midday or early afternoon. Sky is cloudy but brightly lit. One faint shadow can be seen directly below a child's very long stride while trying to keep up with mum. The shadow is not sharp as on a sunny day, but blurred, do I lean to cloudy, early afternoon. This would seem to point to this scene habbening before or after the schools' Winter break.

Anon, how does that fit in with the bus stop sign that was changed in December of 2013? We can't go very far into December before we would see evidence of disruption due to the complete refurbishment of Communications House, right?

I think last bread someone posted a cap from the WayBack of a restaurant that had dining packages for DEC 24, 25, 26. Even mentioned they have a private movie theatre up there. This may cause those upper floors to have a 'regular' light pattern. But we still have the rest of the building to work with, and that has been enough, imho to zero in on D25 (+/- 1). Now we just need to tighten the timeframe.

Btw, the Canadian's vids are like a trip to the dentist but a daily goldmine of weather conditions. There is one that allegedly caught fireworks on Christmas Eve from a high building(which is out of the norm for his locales). But I was interested in if he mislabeled the vid or not, or if they did have fireworks on Christmas Eve. Try watching some of his videos for weather. But at the same, time think of our London scenes and know they would be experiencing the same weather. He is there in London the whole timeframe we are looking at.

Yeh, little hint of Christmas season in the Piccadilly Circus pics. But the lack of vehicles is distinctive, if not for that day but for even that moment. The roadways that criss-cross the view of that location during daylight is usually full of busses coming and going. Schools let out during busy time of day/week at that spot.

Time of day is a marker, took, and your observations are great start.

Could have been changed before construction start, but I think DEC 2013 is a reasonable narrowing of the time interval. Needs direct evidence, if we can find that.

What is more important, I think, is finding an RML with no ads on its board-side panels. An RML has that extra squarish set of windows on both decks near the middle of its length. The livery of the RED BUS pic is yellow and red, not white and red, so keep an eye out for that.

Thinking that by that time there may have been a Private Hire fleet on the streets that might stop at that bus stand, which is not a TfL stop on a regular city route for general public transit. In some cases, at that time around 2013/2014, there could have been portions of a private fleet brought back to serve TfL routes, but this is not on such a route.

To triangulate would need a shiny RML that picked up or dropped off at a bus stand at Coventry/Whitcomb during the daylight in the winter of 2013/2014 prior to 23 MAR 2014 but after 31 OCT 2013.

PICADILLY PIC

LG billboard showed LG GS advert in Q pic. That model of phone was released in UK in OCT 2013. Its successor phone, LG G3 was released around JUL 2014.

In vids of that time, the LG G2 advert appeared with an advert showing the device had won the GAGET AWARD; that win was announced 4 DEC 2013 and so the ad appeared on or after that date.

The question then is, did the LG G2 advert first appear before the award? Guessing yes, as the release was in OCT 2013. Next question follows that train of thought; is there any reason to pin the LG billboard advert for G2 on any date prior to 4 DEC 2013? Do we have evidence inside the camera frame or outside that would lead to eliminating OCT/NOV 2013?

Another thought - the Piccadilly Circus pics and the RED BUS pic were dropped by Q in a series. Other than that commonality, is there any indication that the two scenes were closely connected in chronology and/or in sequence?

Each Routemaster has an ID number on front plate at least. IF this particular bus had been in use in the vicintiy, and had been refurgished with new shiny panels, it might have been previously adorned with advert boards and a different livery. These are aluminum bodies and panels. So a refurbishment would be followed by new painting at which time, if that happened to that particular bus, the lviery could be altered.

So, for now, if you look, look for RML and if you can manage get a view of its ID number. Then could search databases for that particular bus and its history.

How many times in that time interval would all bus traffic stop due to a holiday? Perhaps private hires could legally offer a "routes". Could they take over a city route for a day? Perhaps a look at Christmas Day would answer my question.

I think that bus stand can be used by all manner of vehicles, especially buses, however, the stand was primarily for the tour bus operator. The RED BUS stand was for picking up passengers; the two other stands were for dropping off passengers at end of the route. Often in vids around that time you will see multiple open top buses on the same route or criss-crossing different routes. This particular bus stop was the terminus of a particular route that included the Embankment. These tours allow passengers to hop on and then to hop off at different places, return to the stop or pickup on the route at another stop and hop back on.

Thinking that the shiny red double decker was unsuitable for tours like that; its top is not cut off. But it is a genuine London icon and so is its own attraction.

Wondering if we are meant to spot passengers, or people who seem to be moving toward the rearend passenger alighting platform, and spot them in other pics.

The only individual I think can be in more than one pic, is the man with dark jacket, tan-coloured trousers, and red cap. He is in RED BUS pic as well as the WW pics plus at least one CH pic. Well, at least the same red cap and black jacket, if not the same individual, whomever that would be.

There are annual old bus festivals and such where people who have restored RMLs and the like congregate. But that's summerish.

Have seen RMLs on EMBANKMENT in vids around 2013/2014. Couple might match, but these had white stripes in their livery. Think we've got pictorial evidence of such double deckers standing at the Corinthia Hotel, too.

To bring that back to hard evidence to help narrow the interval through elimination, perhaps we need digz on private hires on Coventry Street, or at least in Piccadilly Circus. Would make sense that a route go through the circus and then stop nearby for people to get off to visit the circus.

Yup. The planning doc discussed taxi ranks, for example. There is one between the RED BUS stop and Piccadilly Circus, which you can spot in the vids of Coventry Street, near TGIF and the steakhouse area, but on other side of street. There was talk of converting that into a bus stand; so they did, the sign changed, and the idea was temporarily tried. Don't know why that seemed to be abandoned later.

On Whitcomb, beside the building that would be gutted, the planning necessitated repurposes the sidewalk and the kerbsie bus stands, there were two, for scaffolding and for moving construction gear and materials. Trailers were setup on the Lecester Square side of the building. So in the background of RED BUS pic there's these two stands that would be covered with scaffold and shrouded.

That meant the bus route had to find alternative places to park the tour buses. They found space on side streets and the signs there were also changed to reflect that.

In addition, the tour company could have traded off the two stands for additional space near Hyde Park Corner, also a prime location for their various tour routes.

As can be seen in vids from around the time, plus 2015, the open top tours continued to use the RED BUS stop but it doubled for both hopping on and hopping off at the start/end of a particular route. This stand is where driver and tour guide might take breakes or switch at end of shifts and the like.

As always, traffic gets pretty chaotic with all the different kinds of vehicles and Coventry Street is a good example of that. Mix in the passengers with a few one-way streets and makes for some complicated use for those many uses.

There is a chance that a private hire outfit would make a call to the tour company and gain permission to use the stand with a bit of notice and scheduling. The advantage of a private hire is that you do not have to go on a big tour when the group just wants to hit a few common destinations, like, say, Piccadilly Circus, China Town, Hyde Park, and Embankment. On the right is the cover of the bus engine; the driver is on the other side of the bus where his cab 'window' serves as his entrance. So on the camera side of the pic is a red hood with a bright whitish reflection. Might that be an overhead Chrismtas decoration?

Oye, hang on, to complete my thought, on the side of the engine hood, below the whitish reflection, is white lettering. That is where you can find an RML's identification. It would be a combo of number and letters. Also appears on a plate between the front wheels. The res in the RED BUS pic is so low that can't make head or tail. But if you are looking that is a prime place to find the identifier.

Kek, alright back to the interuption in my train of thought - the glare on the hood. It is a horizontal survace, more or less, and so unlike the shiny side panels it might reflect from above.

That might change thinking on the time interval. The decorations go up in Nov, I believe, and come down as late as March. Need to better bracket those decorations for 2013/2014 if we are to use them as a marker.
