If you want to participate in Oregon society without being forced to wear a mask, you better have your paperwork in order.

The state is now requiring individuals to display “proof of vaccination” if they’d like to take their masks off indoors, Oregon’s Health Authority has announced.

In rejecting the more practical and individual liberty embracing “honor system” approach that we’ve seen across the United States,the authorities in Salem are taking the fascist policy route.

“Oregon will allow people to go maskless outside but will require them to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 — and be able to prove it — to forgo masks in most public indoor settings,” the Oregonian reports.

Yes, you read that correctly. Oregon finally ended its *outdoor* mask mandate, a full year and a half into Covid Mania. And in exchange for “granting” systems the freedom to breathe fresh air, they will now be forced to show “proof of vaccination” if they want to participate in society.

“We hope that Oregonians will not lie or cheat and put others at risk by forging a vaccine record if they aren’t vaccinated,” Oregon’s state epidemiologist,Dean Sidelinger, said in a presser with local journalists. The idea that there is any science backing a “papers, please” approach to “stopping the spread” is entirely baseless.

Two important points:

First and foremost, there is no comprehensive trial that shows masks actually work at preventing COVID-19, so the premise for the mask policy is false.

There is no evidence that cloth masks help stop the spread of a submicroscopic infectious particle. In fact, there is more evidence demonstrating that masks may act as a vector for disease transmission.

Second, if vaccines work to protect people from serious outcomes related to COVID-19, what exactly is the point of demanding that businesses force customers to show their vaccine papers? Yes, that was rhetorical.

COVID Mania has largely been nothing more than an excuse for politicians and oligarchs to accumulate more power.

If the vaccine protects individuals from people who choose not to take the COVID-19 vaccine, then there is no particular threat to anyone but those who choose to opt out. There is zero science behind the idea of a COVID-19 vaccine passport.

It seems that the next steps for Oregon are obvious. That may come in the form of a more streamlined digital vaccine passport system, as we’ve seen in places like New York and Hawaii (the good news is that these systems are struggling big time).

The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is reportedly planning to send high school seniors back to school for just one day, so that the city might qualify for $12 million in state reopening funds.

The state of California is offering a total of $2 billion to encourage public school districts to reopen for in-person instruction. To get their full share of the incentive funding, districts must reopen all elementary schools and at least a single grade spanning middle and high schools.

Districts could access the maximum amount of funding—$17 million for SFUSD—if they opened by April 1. For each day the district fails to meet the minimum requirements, it loses 1 percent of the funds it would have received, and will not get any money after May 15.

Under a deal between the district and its teacher’s union, the United Educators-San Francisco (UESF), high school seniors would be brought back “for at least one day before the end of the school year,” starting on May 14, just one day shy of the May 15 deadline.

According to the terms of the agreement, obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle, those high school seniors would be receiving “in-person supervision” rather than in-person instruction.

After Dallas Fed President Robert Kaplan spooked stocks by repeatedly suggesting that it was time to start discussing tapering of the Fed's asset purchases, Friday's job number offered doves on the Fed just the ammunition they needed to push back.

So we weren't surprised to see Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari appear on Bloomberg TV Friday morning just minutes later to defend the Fed's dovish approach, while implying that hawks like Kaplan and Kashkari's other "critics" on Wall Street may secretly be trying to sabotage the recovery. After the 3.7-sigma miss from the 1MM+ projections (one of the biggest in history and the biggest in decades), Kashkari insisted that Friday's jobs number is the latest evidence that the US post-pandemic economic recovery "has a long way to go".

"For all those people who have been saying 'oh my gosh, the Fed needs to normalize quantitative easing,' today’s job report is just and example of – we have a long way to go" Kashkari said. He added that he was "firmly in the camp" for maintaining the Fed's policy stance, which presently entails buying $120 billion in assets every month, while keeping the Fed funds rate close to zero. "Let's not just forecast that the labor market will recover, let's actually wait for the labor market to recover. As Chair Powell said a week ago, we've had one great jobs report, let's not declare victory yet." It's certainly convenient that just as dissenting voices on the FOMC were starting to speak out, Fed doves like Kashkari and Powell got essentially the perfect reading to justify their actions. But even more notable than his defense of the Fed is the fact that, when confronted about the role that unemployment benefits may have played in depressing job gains, Kashkari openly acknowledged that the government is essentially paying peoplPost too long. Thank you Mr President and I'm going to recommend that we do not concur with this and primarily because the saga of the Emergency Clause because folks had the wrong information that the State Patrol wanted an Emergency Clause when they didn't. And while I certainly understand and accept the explanation of the gentle lady from the 48th District, still folks had the wrong information and there was no request by the State Patrol for the Emergency Clause and of course the Emergency Clause has a lot of consequences that prohibits the people, I don't know if they want to or not, but if they wanted to have a referendum they couldn't do it because of the Emergency Clause. So all this was never intended, never intended by the Senate, never even brought up when Law and Justice Committee dealt with

In an attempt to contain China, Australian Defense Minister recently said that Australia could get the first nuclear submarine under the framework of AUKUS before 2038. However, Chinese military experts said on Tuesday that this delivery schedule is too hasty and China's rapid development during this period will outpace the Australian one.

Australian Defense Minister, Peter Dutton, recently said that he was extremely confident that Australia would have its first nuclear-powered submarine before 2038, adding that recent discussions with the US and UK officials under the AUKUS agreement had reassured him that the submarines would be built years earlier than many defense experts expected, the Sydney Morning Herald reported on Monday.

One of the key projects of AUKUS, a new alliance by Australia, the UK and the US announced in September 2021, is to equip Australia with nuclear submarines in an attempt to contain China.

When the AUKUS agreement was announced, an 18-month process was launched by all members to figure out the best way to deliver Australia nuclear submarines, according to the report by the Sydney Morning Herald.

When China is holding the Olympic Winter Games in its capital city Beijing to bring more certainty to world peace, the US and its ally Australia are still ramping up tension in the Asia-Pacific by tightening alliances to serve military confrontation, as the top US diplomat visits Australia for the Quad foreign ministers' meeting and Australia's defense chief tries to push Washington to be more hostile and radical against China.

Australian Defense Minister Peter Dutton urged the US and its allies to be tougher on China after they "acquiesced and allowed" China's "expansion" in the South China Sea over the past decade.

"If we continue on that trajectory, then I think we'll lose the next decade," Dutton said in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald published on Monday. "And my sense is that we're better off being honest about that."

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal is hearing an application by independent senator Rex Patrick, who is seeking the release of previously secret cabinet documents about Australia’s dealings with Timor-Leste following its 1999 independence vote.

As part of the case, Philip Dorling, a then foreign affairs department officer and adviser to shadow foreign affairs minister Laurie Brereton, has filed an affidavit recalling a private conversation he had with Downer on 31 August 2000 during an RAAF flight from Dili to Maroochydore.

Dorling recalls Downer speaking of the second world war, describing Winston Churchill’s mistakes and suggesting the war “could have been brought to a more rapid and victorious conclusion” if he had been in Churchill’s position.

NZ royal commission hears from survivors abused by Bernard McGrath ahead of Australian transfer

A New Zealand royal commission into abuse in care has heard horrific evidence about a member of a Catholic order who was transferred from his homeland to a boys' home near Newcastle.

The commission comes four years after Australian victims of the St John of God order called on New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden to set up a special inquiry to investigate brothers there.

An Australian royal commission into child abuse heard 40 per cent of St John of God brothers were abusers, the most of any order.

Today the inquiry heard the percentage of brothers who abused children in New Zealand was closer to 60 per cent, but could be more.

"The evidence you are about to hear can only be described as chilling," Counsel Assisting Katherine Anderson said.

"That is in relation to what happened to these individuals, but also in relation to the lifelong impacts they carry with them.

Some of Australia’s most prominent “freedom” activists involved in the protests unfolding in Melbourne plan to stand for election alongside former Liberal MP Craig Kelly as candidates for Clive Palmer’s United Australia Party.

A number of figures from the “freedom” movement – including one accused of inciting protests during Melbourne’s lockdown – have also directed their support and large social media following to support Mr Kelly, who joined the billionaire mining magnate’s party after quitting the Liberals in February.

Mr Palmer’s party has received more than 1500 nominations for all 151 lower house seats and all Senate seats, and one political expert has forecast that the UAP could hold the balance of power in the event of a hung Parliament at next year’s federal election.

NSW-based Mr Kelly, who quit the Liberals after being reprimanded for propagating unsubstantiated claims about COVID-19 and vaccines, has been campaigning hard in lockdown-fatigued Victoria in recent months.

Protests in Victoria are currently focused on the state government’s pandemic bill, which would transfer public health powers from the chief health officer to the premier and health minister. Critics say the powers are too far-reaching and do not allow for proper parliamentary scrutiny of decisions.

AUKUS: Australia, US military ‘melded like never before’: US adviser

President Biden’s top adviser for Asia, Dr Kurt Campbell, has said he expects the US and Australia military to become “melded” together in a way unimaginable twenty years ago, as the AUKUS security pact comes to fruition.

Dr Campbell, one of the architects of the three-nation agreement that also include the UK, said the deal was a response to unprecedented Chinese military build-up in naval ships, nuclear warheads and space capabilities that had profoundly worried nations in the Asia-Pacific region.

“We’re of view that some of this is destabilising, much of it is done in non-transparent manner, and behind the scenes many in Asia are worried about this substantial, dramatic set of military investments,” he said, speaking as part of a fire side chat hosted by the US Institute of Peace in Washington on Friday.

“And some of those steps have led other countries to respond, and AUKUS is one of those responses,” he added.

His remarks followed publication of a damning report by the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission earlier this week that found China’s “unprecedented” nuclear weapons build up had raised the risk of war with the US and provided the People’s Liberation Army with the confidence to invade Taiwan.

VATICAN CITY (RNS) — Former Vatican economy czar Cardinal George Pell warns in a new book that the Catholic institution is facing a growing deficit, but he hopes financial reform efforts have put a stop to money laundering in the small city-state.

Pell’s newest book, “Prison Journal, Volume 3: The High Court frees an Innocent Man,” was published in November and is the final installment detailing his experiences in prison. Pell was jailed for more than a year in 2019 after being accused of sexually abusing minors in Victoria, Australia, and was acquitted on appeal by the country’s High Court in April 2020 for lack of evidence.

The book touches on a variety of subjects, from how the cardinal’s faith and support sustained him during imprisonment, to his political views, but it also addresses “corruption in Rome,” Pell told Religion News Service during a phone interview on Wednesday (Nov. 17).

“I think the main challenge is the Vatican is short of money. That’s the primary reality at the moment,” Pell said, adding that the red balance sheet is due to “years of old-fashioned methodology, incompetence and corruption.”

Berlin ist somit das erste Bundesland, welches den gelben Impfausweis in bestimmten Bereichen des öffentlichen Lebens für ungültig erklärt. Zumindest bei Veranstaltungen und großen Festen, wo eine 2G-Regel (Geimpft und Genesen) gelten soll. Laut Beschluss müssen "die Nachweise digital verifiziert und mit einem Lichtbildausweis abgeglichen werden".
