Carl Icahn exits Hertz with 'significant' loss

Billionaire investor Carl Icahn said on Wednesday he had sold his entire equity position in Hertz Global Holdings Inc (HTZ.N) at a “significant loss”, days after the car rental pioneer filed for bankruptcy protection.

Icahn, who was the largest shareholder in Hertz, sold all the 55.34 million shares on Tuesday at 72 cents per share, according to a regulatory filing.

Hertz filed for bankruptcy protection on Friday after its business was decimated during the coronavirus pandemic and talks with creditors failed to result in much needed relief.

Icahn had been an investor in Hertz, which operates Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty car-rentals, since 2014.

Philippines Finds 260% Spike in Online Sex Abuse of Children During Lockdown

Cases of online sexual abuse of children in the Philippines have risen by as much as 260 percent since the country’s coronavirus lockdown measures were imposed in March, Philippine news outlet Coconuts Manila reported on Tuesday.

The Philippines Department of Justice [DOJ] announced the alarming statistic on Monday, citing data from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children [NCMEC], a non-profit organization. From March 1 to May 24, The NCMEC reported a total of 279,166 child abuse cases to the DOJ, compared to 76,561 cases for the same period in 2019.

According to the report, the majority of child abuse cases reported to the DOJ included “possession, manufacture, and distribution of child porn; enticing kids to perform sexual acts online; trafficking minors for sex; and sexual molestation.” In a statement, the DOJ attributed the increase in cases to the Philippines’ stringent coronavirus lockdown measures: “[A] strict home quarantine is observed in all households, and internet usage surges as people stay home.”

Out of the thousands of cases, just 22 have been referred to the National Bureau of Investigation, according to the report. The DOJ said this was due, in part, to the referral of some cases to the Philippine National Police.

So far, authorities have arrested ten people in connection with the reported cases and have detained seven suspects, according to Coconuts Manila. State authorities rescued 34 minors in response to the reports. Two cases connected to the reports are currently on federal trial in the Philippines. Other cases have been filed in the prosecutors’ offices of four different cities: Butuan, Taguig, Caloocan, and Angeles City.

DOJ Undersecretary Markk Perete said that the high number of cases may be due to “misreporting,” explaining that there were “identical materials reported by many people” as well as people reporting nude photos of children which were posted by relatives to social media “in good faith.” He also said there had been “inaccurate reports forwarded by internet service providers.”

In a statement, the DOJ said that Philippine internet service providers [ISPs] should install technologies to prevent pedophiles from accessing webpages advertising child pornography.

It is unfortunate that eleven years after the law that prohibits any form of child pornography was passed, the ISPs have continued to be remiss of [their] duty to install blocking or filtering technology that would have greatly reduced the amount of time necessary to identify perpetrators and victims.

Last week, the International Justice Mission, a non-profit organization combating the sexual abuse of minors, published a seven-year study that found that “endemic poverty” was responsible for making the Philippines a “global hotspot” for child abuse and pornography.

A Pennsylvania public school board rejected a textbook last week, as some members called its instruction on climate change left-wing "indoctrination," the York Dispatch reported.

What are the details?

The West York Area school board voted 5-4 on May 19 to scrap "Rubenstein: The Cultural Landscape: An Introduction to Human Geography, 13th edition," the paper said.

Board member Lynn Kohler said the book represented an anti-capitalist extension of the environmental movement, the Dispatch said, and that climate change and globalization are highly political and not universally accepted.

"I believe this falls into the indoctrination category of pushing a particular political belief," Kohler said at the meeting, the paper reported.

Kohler added that the text says resources aren't uniformly distributed across the earth, which makes "it sound like countries like America are bad," the Dispatch reported.

The book was slated for the district's advanced placement human geography course, the paper said.

Board member Todd Gettys told the Dispatch that approving the textbook would be an endorsement of its ideas, and he and Kohler agreed the book could be offered for independent study with students buying their own books to remove the taxpayer burden.

Superintendent Todd Davies said that without a text, it's unlikely the course will run, and students who are signed up for it will be disappointed, the paper said.

Venezuelan asylum-seekers warn that lockdown-era America is a taste of socialism

Two Venezuelan asylum-seekers are warning that the recent shutdowns in response to the coronavirus pandemic are giving Americans a taste of the socialist ideology that drove their homeland down the road to economic and social ruin - and are urging Americans to avoid going down that path in the future, even if public health imperatives dictate strict measures now.

“When this whole situation with the pandemic started, it was like some sort of flashback of how my life was in Venezuela seeing all of these shortages in stores, the lines you have to do to get some groceries, the surveillance ordered by the government to enforce social distancing,” Jorge Galicia told Fox News in an interview Wednesday. “I can see a lot of similarities between the pandemic and how socialism was working for us in Venezuela.”

Galicia, a freedom activist who came to the U.S. in 2018 after he says he suffered political persecution from despot Nicolas Maduro's regime, along with fellow exile Andrés Guilarte, have been warning of the dangers of socialism for months as part of a college campus tour promoted by The Fund for American Studies.

They have a tough climb ahead of them. Progressive ideas such as "Medicare-for-all," basic income plans and exorbitant welfare spending have increasingly caught on, particularly amid the economic downturn, and left-wing members of Congress such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., have become increasingly popular in recent years - with Sanders at one point a top contender for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) says its membership has surged by 10,000 since March.

"People are really starting to just look around and say, 'Man, capitalism isn't working,'" an unnamed co-chair of the Detroit DSA chapter told The Atlantic. "If the markets can’t even produce hand sanitizer or toilet paper or masks during a plague - what good is this system?"

But Galicia and Guilarte have pointed to the ruin of Venezuela under Maduro as an example of how socialism leads to less freedom and less prosperity. Under the Maduro regime, the country has been dogged by malnutrition, disease and violence, as well as accusations that the government is engaged in money laundering and supporting terrorism.

Stay-at-home orders and other restrictions on everyday life in the U.S. aren't anywhere near the tragedy of modern Venezuela. But with jobless claims surging to historic levels amid lockdown measures and some on the left advocating for a massive welfare system as the answer, Galicia and Guilarte have a warning.

“My mission right now is to speak loud and to share my story about what happened and why Venezuela went from being one of the richest nations around the world to being one of the poorest right now - and pretty much the answer is socialism,” Galicia said.

EU Trying To Take Over Serbia-Kosovo Negotiations From U.S.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian and German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas in a joint statement on the weekend said that EU-led dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo must restart as soon as possible and that shortcuts and quick fixes are excluded from the European plan towards a final deal. The sudden weekend request from France and Germany for the immediate continuation of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, under the leadership of the EU, was euphorically welcomed in Pristina, because, unlike the U.S. one, it offers no dead line for a solution. The EU does not want a repeat of the Dayton Agreement for Kosovo as it has been a catastrophic failure for Bosnia and the EU was only a passive observer when Bosnia was divided.

For Belgrade, there are several elements that it has to face. First of all, the battle between the EU and the U.S. for supremacy in leading the Kosovo process is underway. In that, the joint letter from Paris and Berlin requests dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina to begin as soon as possible but for the dialogue to be patient, while Washington is also on a diplomatic offensive with the aim to end the process as soon as possible.

The EU has been silent on this issue for a long while, which the U.S. used to activate and engage in dialogue in the absence of European influence. Knowing the traditional position of Washington on the Kosovo issue, Belgrade should prevent the U.S. from taking a lead position in any negotiations because they have always been on the side of a Kosovo independent of Serbia.

With Berlin and Paris, as the leading members of the EU, showing greater interest in resolving the issue between Serbia and Kosovo, they are showing their return to the process in a demonstration of their increased influence in the region. It is important for the Europeans to indicate in some way that they are still interested in having the main influence in the dialogue. If we observe this from Serbia’s side, this could be in its favour as the EU still has member states that do not recognize an independent Kosovo and will defend this position.

Epstein Lawyer: ‘It Was Homicide, But I Don’t Know Who Killed Him’

Jeffrey Epstein’s lead attorney says that he knows the billionaire pedophile was murdered in prison, but does not know who the killer/s is/are, noting that Epstein was ‘upbeat and excited’ about going to the courts in an attempt to clear his name.

Epstein’s lawyer David Schoen made the comments in a Discovery documentary series about the disgraced multi-millionaire, revealing that the financier was preparing to reveal key information at trial.

Schoen is adamant that Epstein was not suicidal, noting “At one point a prison psychiatrist came in and asked me to leave so she could talk to Epstein on his own. They talked for five minutes and he seemed relaxed. He was smiling as she left.”

“He had plans to really fight this case. He’d made arrangements to hire me.” Schoen added.

In the three part documentary, titled Who Killed Jeffrey Epstein?, Schoen also said he was very concerned about Nicholas Tartaglione, a huge former cop, charged with four murders, who was initially sharing a cell with Epstein during his first alleged suicide attempt.

“The first incident that happened which the newspapers reported as a possible suicide attempt, Epstein didn’t want to discuss any further. He told the prison officers he couldn’t remember what happened, he didn’t want to answer any more questions,” Schoen said.

“Look, he was in a dangerous situation. He’s a very wealthy guy accused of sex offences stuck in with a guy accused of four murders.” the lawyer added.

“First of all he shouldn’t have been locked up in the general population, that’s reprehensible… He’d have guys who watch the nightly news on the prison TV and say to him, $70 million mansion, huh?” Schoen proclaimed.

“I’ve been through this with other clients and I told him to keep him an eye on this and tell me if anyone was extorting him.” the lawyer said.

Schoen also said that he was disappointed that Epstein’s ‘powerful friends’ kept their distance after his arrest.

“I’d hoped that Prince Andrew would be the one guy who stood up and said he was a friend, I didn’t know anything about it.” Schoen said.

The lawyer also slated the legal team that he took over from, calling Epstein’s former legal representative Jay Lefkowitz a ‘numbskull’.

Schoen also claimed that lawyers acting on behalf of victims were trying to milk Epstein for millions, in some cases asking for payments of up to $25 million to make the claims vanish.

“I wanted people to report on the fact how much lawyers were making off this thing. I’d hope that some people agree that some of these women tricked him.” Schoen declared.

The documentary is airing simultaneously with a Netflix special that features testimony from witnesses and victims of Epstein’s sordid activities.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) will announce today that he is working with Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee to craft legislation that would strip social media giants of their Section 230 legal immunity if they fact check content on their platforms, according to a copy of his podcast which Breitbart News exclusively obtained.

On the Florida conservative’s podcast, Hot Takes with Matt Gaetz, he said that he is working on a bill that would prevent social media giants such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google from fact-checking content on their platforms. Gaetz’s announcement follows as Twitter decided to fact check President Donald Trump’s tweet on Tuesday.

Twitter tried to fact check the president over Trump’s tweet, claiming that mail-in ballot would lead to increased voter fraud.

Opinion: It is a mistake to believe that the Palestinian population is indifferent to Israel's looming plans for swathes of the territory and the military is preparing for different levels of conflict, from another civil uprising (intifada) or all-out war

In two weeks time, while Israel is still in the throes of the coronavirus pandemic and its economic fallout, the IDF Central Command will be placed on high alert - preparing for armed conflict with the Palestinian Authority, Palestinian security forces, local terror cells and large numbers of demonstrators.

Anything is possible given the anticipated announcement by the Israeli government that it is annexing parts of the West Bank and the Jordan Valley.

All possible scenarios are being translated into combat readiness as the army plans for varying degrees of violence - ranging from a popular uprising (intifada) to all-out confrontation.

Incredibly, the Israeli public conversation has ignored the looming annexation. Some refuse to believe that the government would take such a step given the warning from the Trump administration against doing so without negotiations with the Palestinians.

Some believe the government would suffice with a declaration but no action on the ground, or that the annexation would encompass only the small cluster of settlements along the pre-1967 borders (Green Line), which would likely remain in Israeli hands as part of an agreement.

Either way, they are kidding themselves.

The Palestinian public has a very different take on the situation. What some in Israel may see as indifference on the Palestinian street could quickly change.

‘Horrific’: Naked, underweight teenagers found locked in room in Brisbane

Queensland Police have discovered two naked and malnourished teenagers locked in the room of a house where a dead body was also found.

Police officers arrived at the property on Midson Street in Stafford in the city’s north at 7am on Wednesday.

They were responding to reports of the sudden death of a man and found the 49-year-old’s body inside.

But while in the home, it’s understood officers heard noises coming from a locked bedroom and found two men aged 17 and 19 inside.

They were living in squalid conditions, naked and underweight. According to Nine News, the pair suffer from intellectual disabilities.

It was Sunday, April 5, and Dr. Stephen Hahn, the commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, faced a world of problems. Less than two months after the first American death from COVID-19, the U.S. health care system was under siege, with more than 300,000 confirmed cases of the new disease—the most of any nation in the world—and almost 10,000 deaths. Hahn was under fire over faulty test kits the FDA had approved, and angry members of Congress were demanding that his agency prevent the hoarding of an old malaria drug called hydroxychloroquine, which President Trump was hyping without evidence as a miracle cure.

Nevertheless, Dr. Hahn found time that afternoon to carry out an unusual mission. He contacted an obscure family practitioner in Monroe, New York, with whom he had never before been in touch, to ask if the doctor had “time for a quick call.” Once on the phone with Dr. Vladimir Zelenko, Hahn posed a question: How could he—the commissioner of a federal health agency with a $5.7 billion annual budget and the responsibility to safeguard the nation’s drugs, medical devices, and food supply—be of help?

Zelenko was a 46-year-old “simple country doctor,” as he described himself to the New York Times, who claimed to have witnessed positive results after prescribing a cocktail of drugs including hydroxychloroquine to patients in the Orthodox Jewish community of Kiryas Joel, New York. His message aligned perfectly with the pronouncements Trump had been making from the White House podium: that hydroxychloroquine, when used early and liberally, was a game-changing treatment for COVID-19. That, in turn, had earned Zelenko a growing platform on right-wing media.

Two days after that first phone call, in a series of text messages obtained by Vanity Fair, Zelenko returned to Hahn for help setting up a clinical trial of some 750 outpatients at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, New York. “The Catholic Health System (St. Francis Hospital) / Dr Zelenko COVID-19 trial is ready to go,” Zelenko wrote to Hahn, copying one of the hospital’s doctors involved in the trial. “We need ASAP 1. Hydroxychloroquine 200mg. 10000 pills 2. Azithromycin 500mg 5000 pills 3. Zinc sulfate 220 mg 5000 pills This treatment will be deployed in outpatient primary care.”

Gun controllers are rolling out major plans to takeover Texas in the 2020 elections and beyond.

Back in February, anti-gun group Everytown for Gun Safety announced its plans to spend $8 million in Texas during the 2020 elections. It is particularly focusing on U.S. House and state House races. On May 11, the Michael Bloomberg-funded group unveiled its first round of spending which consisted of a $250,000 digital ad campaign singling out Republicans in five pivotal congressional cases in the Lone Star state.

Tampa Man Charged with Attempting to Provide Material Support to ISIS

The Department of Justice today announced the filing of a criminal complaint charging Muhammed Momtaz Al-Azhari, 23, of Tampa, Florida, with attempting to provide material support or resources to a designated foreign terrorist organization, namely, the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS). If convicted, Al-Azhari faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.

“We are grateful for the quick work of our partners at the FBI to apprehend Al-Azhari before he could carry out his attack,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers. “This case demonstrates the Department’s commitment to stand vigilant against the threat of terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms.”

“We are grateful for the hard work and swift action by our law enforcement partners and concerned citizens during this investigation,” stated U.S. Attorney Maria Chapa Lopez for the Middle District of Florida. “Their coordination and cooperation in this matter allowed us to interrupt a serious threat, without harm to anyone.”

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — A soldier stationed in Kansas saved “countless lives” Wednesday when he hit a man with his car as the man was shooting randomly at people on a bridge near an Army base, a police chief said.

One person was injured by the shooter, according to Leavenworth police Chief Patrick Kitchens. That person, also a soldier, was a random victim, Kitchens said.

Officers initially believed they were responding to a road rage incident on the Centennial Bridge that connects Kansas and Missouri not far from Fort Leavenworth, Kitchens said. Instead, they discovered that a man had been using multiple weapons to fire randomly at vehicles. The suspect was trapped under a car, Kitchens said.

Kitchen said the soldier who ran over the gunman had been waiting in traffic when he saw what was happening.

“The soldier intervened by striking the shooter with his vehicle, causing him to be critically injured, but ending the encounter with the active shooter and likely saving countless lives,” Kitchens said.

Both the shooting victim and the suspect were in serious but stable condition in a Kansas City hospital, police said.

Kitchens said no motive for the shooting has been determined. The suspect is from Platte County, Missouri.

Turns out 'Central Park Karen' was an Obama and Buttigieg donor

A white woman who got into an incredibly stupid altercation with a black man in the wilds of Central Park over her inexplicable refusal to put her dog on a leash as he politely asked and the park rules required, and then threatened to call the cops on him, pretty well did herself in. After getting herself on film in the throes of her episode, and seeing it go viral, Amy Cooper lost her $170,000-a-year job at Franklin Templeton, any prospect of employment afterward, her reputation, and even her dog. And sure enough, her lowly dog-walker was the one who turned her in.

It was rough justice for sure, given what she did, but she knew the rules of living in New York. Tom Wolfe's Sherman McCoy pretty well mansplained it. For being a "Karen," or entitled white woman, as the annoying term now means, she's now a Sherman. As for the black man, Christian Cooper (no relation), he was unjustly treated, too, given that the woman was trying to call the cops on him and counting on the cops to believe her over him, and she was lying about being "threatened." The only creature who got a real scare from that encounter was the poor yelping dog.

A former Pensacola teacher who pleaded guilty last year to an array of sex offenses involving students begged the judge on Wednesday to consider castration rather than sentence him to prison.

Mark Lua, 32, made the unusual request to Circuit Court Judge Thomas Dannheisser at his sentencing hearing Wednesday morning.

"My actions were despicable to say the least," Lua said. "I do believe that punishment is necessary, and I am requesting chemical castration not only as a punishment but as an act of solidarity to show how sorry I am for everything. If your honor is so inclined, I am even willing to undergo physical castration if that way I can stay home and raise my daughter."

Dannheisser did not respond to Lua's request and instead sentenced him to 12 years in state prison, followed by 15 years of probation.

“He seemed to seek out girls that came from unstable or troubled homes," Assistant State Attorney Erin Ambrose said in court Wednesday. "He manipulated them, and he betrayed them because he was a teacher.”

The attacks are numerous, raw, and offensive. However, conservatives calling for him to be fired or his tweets censored are reaching the wrong conclusion. The problem is not Roth but his role."

I mean, nobody would. But Twitter is privately owned and publicly held. It’s not owned by the government. And so the First Amendment, which guarantees the freedom of speech and of the press, since it only regulates the government, does not regulate Twitter. As for his threat to regulate or put Twitter out of business, that, of course, would require legislation, which is somewhat unlikely between now and November. There also would be illegal issues if the effort were aimed at silencing someone that has the freedom of speech. I don’t like what they say. But I’ll defend to the death their right to say it. Under a Supreme Court decision that the president likes called Citizens United, Twitter has freedom of speech just like you and I and the president himself.

Trump Offers To "Mediate" India & China's "Raging Border Dispute" Amid Military Build-Up

No doubt a huge surprise for both Beijing and New Delhi, locked in an escalating border dispute which in the past days has witnessed a troop build-up in multiple disputed border regions, given the historic difficulty of competing claims along the world’s longest unmarked border, President Trump on Wednesday morning offered to "mediate or arbitrate" between the two Asian powers.

He tweeted he is "ready, willing and able" to ease the tensions which are fast being militarized in a situation that FP recently noted could explode into major conflict between two nuclear armed powers.

Wells added: “That has to be resisted whether it’s in the South China Sea… or whether it’s in India’s own backyard.”

Trump's offer also comes after a new White House report laying out a broad strategy on China, accused Beijing of "provocative and coercive military and paramilitary activities" in the region, including Sino-Indian border areas.

NSA’s Social Network Mapping is More Vast, Omnipresent and Horrifying Than Snowden Revealed

This is shocking, and represents an ongoing existential threat to American citizens.

Most people know by now about the surveillance abuses perpetrated by the NSA earlier this century, but a new book about Edward Snowden suggests that the metadata collection programs introduced to us through previous whistleblowers and disclosures are part of a “live, ever-updating social graph of the US” that is ongoing and far vaster than we previously imagined.

The revelations come from journalist Barton Gellman, who described the content of his new book Dark Mirror: Edward Snowden and the American Surveillance State for Wired. The article, entitled “Inside the NSA’s Secret Tool for Mapping Your Social Network,” catalogs Gellman’s attempts to reveal more details about the programs Snowden first disclosed to the world.

What he found shocked him, and represents an ongoing existential threat to American citizens, he says.

Gellman says that originally he wanted to understand more about the logistics of the NSA phone records. The Snowden archive hints at but does not explain the details of the agency’s project pipelines.

The main thoroughfare of data collection, ‘Stellarwind’, was a domestic surveillance program launched by Vice President Dick Cheney only weeks after 9/11. He mandated that all operatives and subordinates conceal the program from FISA Court judges and Congress, stamping it with the most covert of government classifications, ECI, which stands for, “exceptionally controlled information.”

Stellarwind facilitated ‘Mainway’, the NSA’s prized social network mapping tool which conscripted telephone data companies like AT&T and Verizon into secretive–and financially lucrative–data collection contracts negotiated by Special Source Operations.

But even this was just the tip of the iceberg.

The Mainway program codified two important, but (until now), obfuscated surveillance and data mining objectives: contact chaining and precomputation.

Former CDU politician receives €550,000 annually from taxpayers for migrant hotel

The city of Cologne’s municipal government is coming under fire for spending increasing amounts of taxpayer money on keeping migrants in hotels. This is happening even while there are many vacant rooms in existing reception centres. And one of the city’s ex-politicians is making quite a lot of money off the arrangement.

The situation came about because the city has signed long-term leases for hotel rooms for periods of several years in order to reserve them for migrants — leases which must be paid regardless of whether anyone is using the rooms, according to a report by Junge Freiheit. The city is currently paying more than a million euros annually for 90 hotel rooms.

The woman behind many of these leases is Andrea Horitzky, an ex-member of the Executive Board for the Cologne branch of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s ruling Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party. In 2018, the German newspaper Express reported that Horitzky owns a hotel in the city which she converted into housing for migrants. She did this in 2017, while still a member of the CDU’s executive board — at a time when the party’s official position was that migrants should not be put up in hotels. Horitzky told neither the public nor her party of her plan to create migrant housing; she resigned her position when it was exposed in the media.

Nevertheless, Horitzky still received permission from the city to make the conversion, which she did in October 2017. Her hotel can now accommodate up to 43 migrants, and the city signed a seven-year lease with her to maintain it as migrant housing. As a result, Horitzky now has a steady source of income from this arrangement: the city of Cologne pays her 35 euros per day per migrant out of taxpayer funds (according to Express, Horitzky had asked for more, but 35 euros is the maximum allowed by the city). Horitzky now receives 549,325 euros annually from the city — which is paid regardless of whether the rooms are occupied or not.

“This is symbolic both for Cologne and for Ms. Reker [Cologne’s Mayor], and unfortunately also for the CDU in Cologne: corruption and migrant madness go hand-in-hand,” said Sven W. Tritschler, a representative for the Right-wing Alternative for Germany party in the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament.

Cologne has been the site of many horrific incidents involving migrants in recent years, most notoriously when hundreds of German women were sexually assaulted and harassed by migrants on New Year’s Eve in 2015. Only three migrants were ever convicted for the offences, as previously reported by Voice of Europe.

How To Sue Your Governor

Over the past month of advocating for civil disobedience against the corona ban, I’ve received many requests on how a person goes about suing the government.

A wonderful and fitting article about being civilly disobedient ran at the American Institute for Economic Research entitled “Why Aren’t Americans Suing Their Way Out Of Lockdown?”

That article, by Robert E. Wright, presents a legal framework for why more lawsuits should take place. Below, I’m going to offer a framework for HOW to make that happen. If the courts were inundated with 30 million lawsuits tomorrow, it would be a great thing. I once had the joy of suing the government in a manner similar to this one. Alternately, if even just one key test case is brought before the courts successfully, as Wright describes in his piece, it could have a tremendous impact that ripples through the country.

I’m not deluding myself into thinking that the government judiciary will free America from government tyranny, but once in a while they require a tyrant to explain himself, allow a citizen to redress grievances, and occasionally act as a tool to help right wrongs.

If you think you have been harmed by the corona bans, below are some first steps that can be taken to help set that lawsuit into motion.

Step 1: Decide: Pro Se, Public Interest & Pro Bono, Or Your Own Private Attorney

“Pro se” means you represent yourself. A lot of people have a lot of fun doing that. You learn a lot about the process. Though I think it’s a great education, I’m not convinced it is right for this pressing, emergency topic.

If you decide you’d like to do this pro se, the rest of the article is irrelevant, so please get to work on that and Godspeed. May you have the greatest of success. For the rest of you, I’ll continue.

Public interest lawyers seek cases that have a benefit that goes beyond just one person. They tend to seek a grave government injustice that needs overturning. Sometimes they work free of charge to their client, or “pro bono.” I believe on this topic, there are many lawyers out there who will take a case pro bono if asked.

Many more attorneys will take this case for money. There may be a lower level of philosophical commitment in that situation and a higher level of economic commitment.

I would suggest starting by seeking a pro bono attorney and keeping track of the paid attorneys you encounter along the way with a noted interest in your specific case, in case you decide to reach back out to them and fund the case yourself.

Step 2: Keep Organized

Simple spreadsheets are good for this. Pads of paper are useful, but not great, because URLs can be long. You’ll want columns for the lawyer name, URL, phone number, dates you’ve reached out, and responses. Everything you learn during your search should end up in your spreadsheet, because having everything in one place will make the succeeding steps easier.

Step 3: Identify Potential Lawyers

During this next step, you are aiming to find a broad selection of lawyers. Like brainstorming, you are adding anyone who might take the case to your list, regardless of whatever downsides there might be to working with them. The longer the list made in this step, the better.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and New South Wales' Gladys Berejiklian 'just don't like each other', a former political insider has told Australian Financial Review.

While many Australians have been left bewildered by the premiers seemingly turning the road map out of the COVID-19 pandemic into a 'State of Origin-like' game of political brinkmanship, there's actually a history of bad blood that goes back at least three years.

The relationship reportedly soured after Ms Palaszczuk blew up when Ms Berejiklian tried to speak before the other premiers at her first Council of Australian Government meeting after she took over leadership from Mike Baird in 2017.

Traditionally, after the prime minister speaks, premiers are given the opportunity to speak in order of seniority - beginning with the person who has been in office the longest.

When Ms Berejiklian reportedly attempted to jump the queue, she was brutally shot down by Ms Palaszczuk who said: 'That's not how it works here'.

Ms Palaszczuk, who has been in office since 2015, should have gone before her.

Of course, a spokesman for Ms Palaszczuk denied the Queensland Premier had any strained relationships in government.

He said she had 'good relationships with her interstate colleagues'.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted both premiers for comment about the story.

The New South Wales leader has repeatedly questioned Queensland's border policies throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Sunshine State was quick to lock down the border to stem the spread of the deadly respiratory virus, and has indicated it may not reopen for tourists until September.

Queensland is taking a $769 million tourism revenue hit for every month it stays shut.

Guise I’ve been thinking of why Rubio is calling the Presidents tweets conspiracy theories:

1. First we know those that use “that term” have been exposed to the C_A, or know it’s used to condemn people that may be right on in the theory

We are entering a very precarious phase. I doubt congress has a full grasp on just how much the American electorate are aware of their prior activity.

Senator Marco Rubio was moved into the position of Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI) for the specific purpose of defending the interests of the senate. The SSCI under republican leadership was weaponized against Donald Trump and was a participating unit in the soft-coup against a sitting U.S. president.

The corrupt intent crosses over party designations; this is a unified self-interest.

Rubio previously shielded SSCI Vice Chair Mark Warner for his covert contacts with Christopher Steele after a series of “would rather not have a paper trail” text messages were discovered during the investigation of SSCI Security Director James Wolfe’s leaks.

The Florida Senator was moved into position recently as surfacing documents started to put more sunlight on the Senate Intel Committee. Rubio’s role is to cover their tracks.

As an outcome we see this – Rubio Defending Obama-Era IC Weaponization:

I don’t believe the Senate knows how much the American people know.

The senate is playing a very dangerous game here….

…and the American electorate have to be smart about it. Remember, these people are in survival mode. Sunlight is adverse to their interests. As a result nothing would please the GOPe wing more than to lose their majority if that is what’s needed to protect themselves.

Peter Manfredonia, UConn senior wanted in two killings, is caught in Maryland; Connecticut detective catches him during foot chase

A multi-state manhunt for Peter Manfredonia, a 23-year-old Newtown man wanted for two homicides in Connecticut, ended Wednesday night in Hagerstown, Md., when a Connecticut state police detective caught him during a foot chase and took him into custody at gunpoint.

He was captured about 9 p.m. Wednesday by Det. Mike Zella. No shots were fired and no one was injured.

Manfredonia was spotted walking near a truck stop when officers closed in.

A lawyer for Manfredonia’s family, Michael Dolan of Hamden, said he was told something different by police, that Manfredonia turned himself in without incident.

Executive Order on Social Media Companies Will Be Signed on Thursday - White House

President Trump earlier threatened to put regulations or even shut down social media sites, including Twitter, after the latter labeled the president's tweets with fact-checks.

President Donald Trump will sign an executive order "pertaining to social media" shortly, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany told reporters on Wednesday.

McEnany first said it was not clear whether the president would sign it right on the plane while flying from the Kennedy Space Centre, or when he returns to the White House, but White House Director of Strategic Communications Alyssa Farah later confirmed the order is to be signed on Thursday.

President Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday to say that social platforms are trying to censor Americans ahead of the November election, adding that they did the same in 2016.

On Tuesday, Trump accused Twitter of interfering in the 2020 election for applying fact-check labels to two of the president's tweets claiming that mail-in ballots would lead to "cheating" in November's election. He then signaled that "big action" will follow.

News Corp to cut jobs in restructure towards digital-only community and regional newspapers

News Corp has announced a massive shakeup of its publishing businesses, moving almost all its community and regional newspaper titles to a digital-only format.

More than 100 mastheads will become totally digital publications, and 13 papers will merge with other titles in the News Corp brand.

Today's announcement is the latest in a string of newsroom closures across the country and follows Buzzfeed shutting down its Australian operations and Network 10's decision to close its website 10Daily.

The media giant said there would "regretfully" be job losses associated with the announcement, but the exact number remains unclear.

"We're not talking to numbers, we're talking about people and we're having those conversations today and tomorrow, so I'm not going to prejudice those conversations, we're going to talk to them individually," News Corp Australia's executive chairman Michael Miller said.

He said the decision was a long-time coming but that staff had provided "invaluable" years of service.

"I said in April that we were passing a tipping point of the impact of migration of digital advertising from print," Mr Miller said.

"We were also passing a tipping point in terms of the number of Australians that are willing to pay for content online."

Mr Miller said as someone who grew up in regional Australia he understood how important local papers were, but the regional news habits were also moving to the digital space.

"That gives us confidence we won't let them down," he said.

News Corp said more than 375 journalists would continue to work solely for the company's regional and community titles, with the changes effective from June 29.

"These initiatives are significant," Mr Miller said.

Union unsure of number of job losses

The COVID-19 pandemic had already forced News Corp to suspend physical printing of some of its newspapers, with the crisis taking a sledgehammer to advertising revenue.

Some 16 community and regional papers are already online, with News Corp now planning to publish a total of 92 papers in the same way.

The Mackay Daily Mercury, the company's Messenger newspapers in Adelaide, and Melbourne Leader titles are among those to move to digital-only services.

The Hobart Mercury and NT News are among the regional papers that will still be printed.

A small number of regional titles will cease publication both in print and online, with coverage of these communities feeding into the digital masthead covering the wider area.

Voltaren manufacturers fined $4.5m for misleading consumers over arthritis gel claims

The makers of Voltaren pain gels have been fined $4.5 million for falsely passing a product off as being more effective in relieving arthritis symptoms.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) took GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Novartis to court in late 2017, accusing them of misleading consumers in advertising over five years.

The companies marketed Osteo Gel as being more effective than Emulgel in treating pain and inflammation caused by osteoarthritis.

Despite Emulgel being about 33 per cent cheaper in some stores, the two products were essentially the same.

GSK and Novartis admitted they had breached Australian consumer law with their marketing of Osteo Gel between 2012 and 2017.

The parties also agreed on the question of penalties and Federal Court Justice Robert Bromwich today ordered GSK pay a fine of $1.5 million and Novartis pay $3 million.

"Over more than half a decade, this group of companies sought to maximise their sales and thereby profits by artificially boosting the breadth of its product range in three different ways in packaging and online," Justice Bromwich wrote in his judgment.

This tricked consumers into thinking there were two different products.

"The contravening conduct could have been avoided by making it clear that the active ingredient was the same in the two products marketed for different uses and indeed generally different users," Justice Bromwich said.

The misleading claims were made on packaging, on the Voltaren website by both GSK and Novartis and on a separate health website.

In 2017, GSK amended the Osteo Gel packaging to state the product used the "same effective formula" as the Emulgel.

In an affidavit, GSK's head of legal Navaneetha Dilipumakanth apologised for the company's conduct and admitted it had "fallen short of the standards expected of it under the Australian Consumer Law".

"That is a candid and appropriate admission and amounts to the right kind of sorry — sorry for engaging in the conduct, not just sorry for being caught out," Justice Bromwich said.

The ACCC previously mounted a similar case against the makers of Nurofen involving pain products, which resulted in a $6 million penalty.

Japan Ends Coronavirus Emergency With 850 Deaths and No Lockdown

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has announced the end of his state of emergency declaration for the novel coronavirus pandemic, with just 851 deaths reported and without ever implementing a lockdown.

"I have decided to end the state of emergency across the nation," Abe said during a televised press conference on Monday. "In just over a month and a half, we almost brought (the infection) situation under control."

Abe cautioned that lifting the order did not mean that the novel virus was gone from Japan. "Our battle against the virus will continue," he said, while urging the Japanese people to continue following stringent social distancing guidance.

As of Monday, the East Asian nation had reported 16,628 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus. Of those infected, 13,612 have already recovered and 851 have died. Tokyo, the nation's capital with 14 million residents, was the hardest-hit part of the country, with more than 5,100 cases. On Monday, the city reported just eight new infections.

A spokesperson from the Japanese embassy in Washington, D.C. told Newsweek that the country would continue to monitor the spread of the virus and maintain restrictions on international travelers for the foreseeable future.

"The spread of COVID-19 is changing from moment to moment and it is challenging to predict confidently. However, Japan is to carefully consider how to ease its restrictions on international travels partially and gradually while keeping to contain COVID-19," the spokesperson explained in an email.

While Japan never implemented stringent lockdowns like those in parts of China, many European countries and the U.S., it barred foreigner travelers who had recently visited many hard-hit countries and urged residents to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Restaurants and shops were also required to close earlier than normal. Karaoke bars, live music venues and gyms were shuttered and will remain closed in the coming weeks.

Public health officials in Japan have warned the population to wear masks in public and continue to work from home if possible. The Japanese government has asked the population to adapt to a new lifestyle to avoid an uptick in new cases and prevent the spread of the virus. People have also been encouraged to avoid traveling for non-essential purposes to other regions of the country.

It's unclear why Japan has a relatively low infection rate and a comparatively small number of deaths due to COVID-19. Abe has faced criticism for taking little action to curb the virus' spread as many other nations implemented stringent lockdowns.

"Just by looking at death numbers, you can say Japan was successful," Mikihito Tanaka, a professor at Waseda University specializing in science communication, and a member of a public group of experts on the novel virus, told Bloomberg. "But even experts don't know the reason."

Yasutoshi Nishimura, Japan's economic revitalization minister, has said that the situation with the virus will be reviewed every three weeks and further steps could be taken to ease the guidance currently in place, Kyodo News reported. Until then, the Japanese public has been encouraged to remain at home and to avoid large public gatherings.

There are hints the most populous counties in Washington will miss the original timeline to move into Phase 2 of the state's reopening plan June 1, but Governor Jay Inslee still won’t give a straight answer as that date gets closer.

The potential delays could come in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties, where shops and stores are gearing up for the next phase but could have the rug pulled out from under them.

Earlier this week, PaLacia Scott with PCL Salon Studio in Seattle started calling clients to confirm appointments starting June 1. Now things don't look so sure.

“It kind of puts you on edge,” Scott said. “We're depending on the governor and then people are depending on us. So if we are misinformed or don't have the information we need we're ill equipped."

KOMO News has pressed the governor for clarity but just days out from the deadline we're no closer to knowing.

“I would love to be able to tell you exactly what the plans are but we’re still developing them,” Inslee said.

For business owners looking ahead to Monday, the best the governor could offer was still somewhat vague.

“We do not believe that every county will be able to move forward to Phase 2 on that particular date,” he said.

Wardrobe stylist Lauren Storbeck said she's upended her business model at Kick It Boutique and made the changes to keep herself and customers safe, but she still feels like she’s left in limbo.

“Open this up and let us as the business owners dictate what it is that works for us," Storbeck said.

Some businesses in the bigger counties are pushing the governor to lower the bar on the criteria he’s set to move forward. The governor said the request is under consideration.

“It's just so important that we have that type of communication where we have clarity on where do we go from here,” Scott said.

The governor said he plans to address these Phase 2 uncertainties for the big counties in the coming days

As Chief Prosecutor, Klobuchar Declined to Bring Charges Against Cop that Killed George Floyd

he latest example of America’s racist police brutality problem was caught on camera in Minneapolis Monday, as Officer Derek Chauvin knelt on 46-year-old African-American George Floyd’s neck for over seven minutes until he passed out and died. In its headline on its website, Minneapolis police described the event as “man dies after medical incident during police interaction,” laundering themselves of any responsibility. Chauvin continued his assault even as Floyd desperately pleaded that he could not breathe, while bystanders protested his brutality. “You’re fucking stopping his breathing there, bro,” warned one concerned passer-by. Even after passing out, Chauvin did not release pressure on his neck. Chauvin has killed multiple times before while in uniform, has shot and wounded others and is well-known to local activist groups.

A history of racist policing, thanks to Klobuchar

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, who Joe Biden recently asked to undergo vetting to be his running mate for November, issued a very tepid statement about the incident, describing the police killing of an unarmed black man over an alleged forged check as merely an “officer involved shooting,” – a copaganda word often used by police as a euphemism for “murder.”

Klobuchar also called for a “complete and thorough outside investigation into what occurred, and those involved in this incident must be held accountable.” However, this is unlikely to occur, in no small part because of Klobuchar herself and the precedent she set while serving as the state’s chief prosecutor between 1999 and 2007. In that time, she declined to bring charges against more than two dozen officers who had killed citizens while on duty – including against Chauvin himself, who shot and killed Wayne Reyes in 2006 and would later go on to shoot more civilians while in uniform.

At the same time, however, Klobuchar was ramping up the number of arrests as part of her tough-on-crime agenda, something which inordinately affected people of color. In her first year in office alone, the prison sentences for first-degree drug crimes doubled. Activists allege her embracing of the broken window-style policing was a deliberate strategy to win support in the white suburbs of Minneapolis, to the detriment of the city’s non-white communities, bolstering her successful run for senate in 2006. A case in point is Elsayed Salim, who was convicted of failing to declare a secondary income that put him above the threshold for welfare and food stamps. A judge sentenced Salim to 364 days in jail – deliberately attempting to protect him from deportation by keeping his sentencing under a year which downgraded the case from a felony to a gross misdemeanor. An outraged Klobuchar appealed the decision, lobbying for an upgrade and condemning the state’s judges for “letting offenders off the hook too easily.” Mr. Salim was subsequently deported.

While it may not be the first city that comes to mind, data shows that Minneapolis is among the most racist cities in the United States for racial profiling and police stops. The police force’s own data shows that, while black people make up only 18 percent of the population, they were involved in nearly half of all police stops. Conversely, whites make up 60 percent of the population but figured in less than 21 percent of the stops. 62 percent of body searches and 63 percent of people whose cars were searched were also black. Thus, Floyd’s killing is merely a viral example of a wider phenomenon, a spark that ignited a powder keg of resentment that had been building for some time.

Abstract

Masks and respirators do not work. There have been extensive randomized controlled trial (RCT) studies, and meta-analysis reviews of RCT studies, which all show that masks and respirators do not work to prevent respiratory influenza-like illnesses, or respiratory illnesses believed to be transmitted by droplets and aerosol particles.

Furthermore, the relevant known physics and biology, which I review, are such that masks and respirators should not work. It would be a paradox if masks and respirators worked, given what we know about viral respiratory diseases: The main transmission path is long-residence-time aerosol particles (< 2.5 μm), which are too fine to be blocked, and the minimum-infective-dose is smaller than one aerosol particle.

The present paper about masks illustrates the degree to which governments, the mainstream media, and institutional propagandists can decide to operate in a science vacuum, or select only incomplete science that serves their interests. Such recklessness is also certainly the case with the current global lockdown of over 1 billion people, an unprecedented experiment in medical and political history.

Review of the Medical Literature

Here are key anchor points to the extensive scientific literature that establishes that wearing surgical masks and respirators (e.g., "N95") does not reduce the risk of contracting a verified illness:

An active-duty US Army soldier based in Kansas stopped a suspected gunman by ramming him with his vehicleon Wednesday, according to law enforcement officials.

Police initially responded to reports of a road-rage incident on the Centennial Bridge over the Missouri River at around 11 a.m. local time, according to Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens. Upon arriving, police officers discovered two people who were injured, a separate Ft. Leavenworth soldier with a gunshot wound; and another person "trapped under the car."

Both people were transported to a hospital where they are listed as "serious, but in stable condition."

Investigators later discovered that the person trapped under the car was the suspected gunman. The suspect fired at oncoming vehicles "with no particular association" using a handgun and semi-automatic rifle, officials said. Several other cars were hit by the gunfire.

Trump to sign executive order on social media amid Twitter furor

President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order aimed at social media companies Thursday, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany told reporters Wednesday evening, a move that comes as the president and his allies have escalated their allegations that companies like Twitter and Facebook stifle GOP voices.

The announcement revived fears within the online industry that the Trump administration will target a 1996 statute that protects the companies from lawsuits — an avenue that a growing number of Republican lawmakers are advocating as they press their bias accusations about Silicon Valley.

The statute has helped tech giants earn many billions of dollars from users' tweets, posts, likes, photos and videos, with limited legal liability, while giving them broad leeway to remove material they consider "objectionable." But Trump and his supporters contend they are abusing that power.

"These platforms act like they are potted plants when [in reality] they are curators of user experiences, i.e. the man behind the curtain for everything we can see or hear,” an administration official familiar with the issue said Wednesday night. The person said the order, which was described as broad and high level, would address complaints that the online platforms are deceiving people by picking and choosing what content to allow or block instead of acting as politically neutral platforms or moderators.

The official cautioned that the order's language was likely to change by Thursday.

Any attempt to go after the tech companies through regulations could face serious obstacles, however. The president's own regulators have shown little appetite in the past for taking on scrutiny of tweets and Facebook posts, and federal courts have ruled as recently as Wednesday morning that social media companies are private entities with the legal right to police content on their sites.

Russia’s richest oligarch, Leonid Mikhelson, had a private jet secretly registered in the United States and he did it with the help of Bank of Utah, based in Ogden.

The community bank, with 19 locations, has a side business creating aircraft trusts, largely for people who don’t want their names on any public documents. Such transactions, while legal, have been criticized by some members of Congress and federal auditors as major security risks.

The transaction involving Mikhelson, who is close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, is the subject of a New York Times article published Monday as part of the “Paradise Papers” leak, where a cache of records from Appleby, an offshore law firm, were leaked to a German newspaper, which then brought in the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.

Bank of Utah manages at least 1,390 aircraft trusts, making millions in fees. This is not the first time one of its trusts caused an international stir. In 2014, a small jet was spotted at the airport in Tehran, Iran, that was registered to Bank of Utah, which may have violated of U.S. sanctions.

Six states have vote by mail for the state. Only Utah gave its 6 electoral votes to POTUS in that race. Given POTUS generous total in 2016, those six aren't cause for hysteria, especially if one considered other states that were D in 2016 could flip R 2020.

17 state use “ballot only for cause” standard

Only Oregon has a D Senator running. Colorado has a R senator running, so that could be a loss.

Washington, Colorado, Utah, and Hawaii have no senate races.

Initial conclusion

Mail in ballots sound scary, but for now, the practice is not a hill to die on. Look to see if those squawking for the practice already represent one of the six states, and then plug your ears. Like most "news" these days, it's ain't.

Three lawmakers propose bill to prohibit students from Chinese mainland studying STEM subjects in US. Chinese Communist Party has long used American universities to conduct espionage on the United States,’ Republican Senator Tom Cotton says.

American universities may be next to feel the big chill in China-US relations

as a group of US lawmakers are proposing a bill to ban mainland Chinese from studying science and technology in the United States, arguing they pose a threat to national security.

The two senators and one member of the House of Representatives on Wednesday said the Secure Campus Act would effectively bar Chinese nationals from receiving visas for graduate or postgraduate study in so-called STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields. Those from Taiwan and Hong Kong would be exempt.

“The Chinese Communist Party

has long used American universities to conduct espionage on the United States,” said Senator Tom Cotton, Republican of Arkansas, one of the sponsors of the bill and a critic of Beijing.

“What’s worse is that their efforts exploit gaps in current law. It’s time for that to end,” he said. “The Secure Campus Act will protect our national security and maintain the integrity of the American research enterprise.” The proposed legislation comes as diplomatic relations have fractured between the world’s two largest economies. Hong Kong is the latest flashpoint after Beijing drew up a national security law that Washington says tramples on the city’s mini-constitution. The US threatened retaliation over the move.

The US bill, which will be introduced to both the Senate and House of Representatives, also targets China’s efforts to recruit overseas specialists in certain fields. One example is the Thousand Talents Programme, a state-run initiative launched in 2008 to recruit leading international experts in scientific research, entrepreneurship and innovation.

Members of the US scientific community have resisted what they view as actions unfairly targeting foreign-born colleagues, specifically those from China. They have also raised concerns that such campaigns will discourage talented individuals from studying at US institutions.

“While we must be vigilant to safeguard research, we must also ensure that the US remains a desirable and welcoming destination for researchers from around the world,” the members of 60 groups

, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Federation of American Scientists, said in a letter to science policy officials last year.

No timeline has yet been set for deliberation of the proposed legislation, but US officials have long raised concerns that Beijing is attempting to steal intellectual property via researchers and funding programmes. US law enforcement and educational agencies have raised red flags about undisclosed ties between federally funded researchers and foreign governments. A crackdown has included indictments and dismissals.

In January, Charles Lieber

, 60, chairman of the chemistry and chemical biology department at Harvard University, was arrested and charged for lying about his involvement in the Thousand Talents Programme.

The bill proposes that all participants in China’s foreign talent recruitment programmes register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act. It would also prohibit Chinese nationals and participants in such China-sponsored programmes from receiving federal grants or working on federally funded research and development in STEM fields.

Universities, laboratories and research institutes receiving federal funding would need to attest that they were not knowingly employing participants in China’s foreign talent recruitment programmes. The US secretary of state would be obliged to develop and publish a list of such programmes, according to a summary of the bill released on Wednesday.

Russia’s Health Ministry announced it will not ban hydroxychloroquine, seen by some as potentially dangerous. The drug, touted by US President Trump, has been suspended for use in treating Covid-19 in France, Italy, and Belgium.

On Thursday, the Russian Health Ministry stated on its website that hydroxychloroquine’s effectiveness and safety in the treatment of coronavirus is continually being monitored, but the ministry is not taking any steps towards outlawing it. This decision is in sharp contrast to moves made by some European countries which, due to safety concerns, have completely stopped the prescription of the drug to fight the coronavirus.

“Several drugs are used to treat patients with Covid-19,” a ministry statement said. “Among these drugs is hydroxychloroquine, which, due to its anti-inflammatory effect and effect on the immune system, has been used for decades to treat malaria, rheumatoid arthritis, and systemic lupus erythematosus.”

The “Obstruction of Justice Trap” – Former AAG Matt Whitaker Confirms Mueller Probe Was Used As Weapon to Cover Coup Effort….

Within an interesting interview conducted by Jan Jekielek of Epoch Times , former AAG Matt Whitaker confirms what CTH long suspected. The Mueller investigation was used by corrupt interests within the special counsel’s office to threaten any/all executive branch and congressional officials with “obstruction of justice” charges if they revealed any exculpatory or counter-narrative information during the Mueller probe. Whitaker describes this as the “obstruction of justice trap.” Essentially, this approach confirms the second-prong purpose of the Mueller investigation itself. First, use the special counsel in 2017, 2018 and into the beginning of 2019, as a shield (hide information); and secondly a weapon (threats) against any entity who would reveal the background intelligence that undercut the Trump-Russia collusion narrative. We know President Trump was threatened by Rod Rosenstein not to declassify any information in September of 2018 or the Mueller investigation would use that act as evidence of obstruction. Whitaker confirms that same approach was applied toward any executive branch officer who would reveal or release information to congress during the tenure of the special counsel; even within the DOJ and including the attorney general. This is how the Mueller probe was weaponized to mislead the American people.

While the Mueller team continued the same corrupt process started in 2016; and essentially transferred the same objectives as the DOJ/FBI team under Crossfire Hurricane; that same investigative unit was used to keep information from surfacing in ’17, ’18 and ’19 that would expose the corrupt nature of the investigation itself. Documents could not be released without Mueller approval; interviews with key FBI/DOJ officials could not be conducted without Mueller team approval; information could not be declassified without Mueller team approval, etc. Any agency or individual that attempted to release any information was subject to the threat of indictment by the same corrupt prosecutors leading the investigation. It’s a self-fulfilling safety mechanism. Even DOJ officials like Matt Whitaker were under threat. Whitaker calls it the “Obstruction of Justice Trap”.

With that in mind this is a very serious flaw in the authority of the special counsel statute that needs to be addressed by congress. Who can watch the watchers, when the watchers were specifically selected because they would knowingly contribute to the corruption. Very disturbing (timestamps for interview):

LONDON (Sputnik) - The lawyers of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange continue to request his release on bail at a London court due to the high risks of contracting the coronavirus disease at the prison in which he is being held.

"Campaigners continue to insist that as a remand prisoner held in jail for no crime Assange should be immediately released on bail to avoid the risk of contracting COVID-19," the "Don't Extradite Assange" campaign said in a statement on Thursday.

Assange is expected to attend a Monday hearing via video link, while the hearings in the case of his extradition to the United States have been put off until 7 September.

"By doctor’s advice, Assange did not participate in the last two procedural hearings, as moving through the prison to use the communal video room would put him at even greater risk of contracting the virus. Assange has an underlying lung condition that makes him especially vulnerable to COVID-19," the statement noted.

The number of coronavirus cases among the prison staff has increased by 310 to over 870 within a week, according to the statement.

Scherie Murray, one of the Republican candidates challenging New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, dropped out of the primary race, saying Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s “draconian” lockdown orders during the coronavirus pandemic prevented her from being able to campaign. “It’s unfortunate, but what we’ve learned is the governor’s selective executive orders have really put a wrench into my campaign,” Murray told “Fox & Friends First” on Thursday. “He had the choice to change the election in ways for which it could have been a more democratic process, but instead he chose to leave portions of the designating nominating petition process open to challenges and unfortunately I succumbed to challenges from my opponent and the local establishment.” On Thursday, Murray also referenced New York’s now-scrapped nursing home policy that critics say contributed to thousands of coronavirus deaths.

The governor's office said New York's original nursing home policy was in line with a March 13 directive from the Trump Administration's Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that went out to all states on how to control infections in nursing homes. The guidance says "nursing homes should admit any individuals that they would normally admit to their facility, including individuals from hospitals where a case of COVID-19 was/is present." As of last week, New York’s nursing home COVID-19 death toll stood at 5,601, an increase of 203 in six days. “The governor’s draconian, heavy-handed, ill-advised executive orders not only killed our most vulnerable population, but it also killed our opportunity to ballot and it really infringed upon my First Amendment rights,” Murray said. Host Todd Piro pointed out that Cuomo had issued 11 executive orders since March 12.

He then noted that “critics would say other candidates were able to deal with those executive orders and remain on the ballot” and asked her how she would respond to the critics. “To add insult to injury we sourced a vendor who we tasked in good faith to collect qualifying petition signatures and according to the overarching entity, the New York City Board of Elections, unfortunately that vendor violated New York state election laws so it was a double whammy for the campaign with the governor’s executive order,” Murray said. “Had he not selectively changed portions of that petition process perhaps we could have prevailed,” she continued, adding that “it’s a tough pill to swallow.”

New York’s primary election is on June 23. Murray was up against a retired police officer John Cummings for the Republican spot. Ocasio-Cortez is facing several Democratic primary challengers, including from former CNBC host Michelle Caruso-Cabrera.

Rohan Blackwood, the center's commandant, and Deborah Mullane, the director of nursing, were asked to turn in their badges and escorted from the Chester County center Tuesday, the sources said.

Blackwood, 47, took over as commandant of the home for veterans and their spouses five years ago after a brief stint as executive director of the Phoebe Wyncote nursing home in Montgomery County. He had previously worked at a troubled nursing home in Lancaster County. His state salary is $119,453. Mullane is paid $122,113 a year.

Blackwood and his senior staff have come under scrutiny in recent weeks after articles in The Philadelphia Inquirer about how the coronavirus tore through the 238-bed home in East Vincent Township. Leaders of the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, which runs the home, have faced questions from state politicians and relatives of residents who died there.

Joan Nissley, a spokesperson for the department, said in an email, "While we do not comment on personnel matters, we can confirm the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs has named an Acting Commandant at our Southeastern Veterans' Center."

Trump expected to sign executive order targeting Twitter, Facebook

President Trump is expected to sign an executive order on Thursday that would begin a review of laws that protect Twitter, Facebook and Google from responsibility for postings from users on their sites, according to reports.

The president on Wednesday threatened to “shut them down” after Twitter added a fact-checking flag to two Trump tweets about how allowing mail-in voting this November could lead to rampant fraud and a “rigged election.”

The executive order will reportedly direct the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Trade Commission to examine whether they could adjust or place new regulations on the social media companies that would curb their powers, the Associated Press said, citing a draft of the proposal.

It would seek to clarify regulations under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, a law that exempts online platforms from legal liability for material posted by their users, allowing them to be treated more like publishers, Reuters and the Associated Press reported.

"In a May 13th article published in The Atlantic, Adrienne LaFrance offers her readers a deep dive into the QAnon movement. The article argues that when surveying QAnon, we’re not only examining a conspiracy theory, we’re observing the birth of a new religion. LaFrance underscores this argument by highlighting the apocalypticism found in QAnon; its clear-cut dualism between the forces of good and evil; the study and analysis of Qdrops as sacred texts, and the divine mystery of Q.

Following the mass suicide of the Peoples Temple in Jonestown in 1978, historian Jonathan Z. Smith wrote an essay locating the study and definition of religion within an academic context, where he highlights that “almost no attempt was made to gain any interpretative framework” of what occurred at Jonestown by academics. Adrienne LaFrance’s article on QAnon makes clear that the movement and its believers demand to be taken seriously. Her piece acts as a springboard to ask the question: Can QAnon be considered a religion?

Though many enjoy mocking the QAnon conspiracy theories and those who profit from them, it’s important to note that the movement’s adherents firmly believe in the theories—even to the detriment of their families and communities. Therefore, in an effort to avoid the mistakes of the past and to better understand the movement as it continues to grow and evolve, I suggest that we view QAnon as a “hyper-real religion.” Sociologist Adam Possamai, who coined the term, defines it as “a simulacrum of a religion created out of, or in symbiosis with, commodified popular culture which provides inspiration at a metaphorical level and/or is a source of beliefs for everyday life.” Or, to put it more simply, a religion with a strong connection to pop culture. Based on Jean Baudrillard’s work on hyper-reality and simulations, hyper-real religion is based on the premise that pop culture shapes and creates our actual reality, with examples including, but not limited to: Heaven’s Gate, Church of All Worlds, Jediism, etc. As a movement in a constant state of mutation, QAnon clearly blurs the boundaries between popular culture and everyday life.

What this means is that technology and the marketplace of ideas have inverted the traditional relationship between the purveyors of religion and the consumers of religion. Thus, we see religious doctrinal authority (that is, those who can contribute to the religion’s teaching) being created by popular culture."

Morgan Stanley not given advisory role on Aramco pipeline sale

Morgan Stanley has not been given an advisory role on the potential sale of a stake in Saudi Aramco's pipeline business, a deal worth over $10 billion, two sources told Reuters.

The U.S. investment bank, which has previously advised the world's largest oil company, was originally looking to be part of the advisory group on any deal, the sources added.

However, Aramco has mandated JP Morgan and Japan's MUFG to advise it on the deal, which is still in its early stages but would provide the company with cash at a time of low oil prices caused by the coronavirus crisis, the sources said.

Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan and MUFG all declined to comment, while Aramco did not immediately respond to a request for comment on plans for the pipeline business. Although Morgan Stanley was one of Aramco's top advisers on its initial public offering last year, three local banks - NCB, Samba and HSBC Saudi Arabia - ended up controlling most of the process when the listing was scaled down.

U.S. investment banks have recently been shrinking lending outside their home market during the coronavirus crisis, sources told Reuters last month.

Aramco's pipeline sale would be similar to the path taken by Abu Dhabi's national oil company ADNOC last year, when it raised $4 billion by selling a 40% stake in its pipelines division to U.S. investment firms KKR and BlackRock, the sources said.

While ADNOC is in the process of replicating its deal by selling its natural gas pipeline assets, sources have told Reuters, in Aramco's case the process is proving more difficult and moving more slowly, the sources added.

Saudi Arabia is seen by international investors as riskier, one of the sources said, citing an attack on Saudi oil plants last year, the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul and the war in Yemen.

It is a puzzle because the article was flawed. Much of Tokyo and other large cities were under similar restrictions of some states here. Schools were closed, people were advised/required to stay home, parks, festivals, etc were shut down.

Perhaps the condition could be compared to Florida which seems to have fewer problems than NYC/New Jersey which skewed our numbers.

But to suggest that it was business as usual in Japan is wrong. Image is Shibuya crossing, one of the busiest in the world during normal times.
