Amazon In Legal Hot Water? Republican Senator Calls For Criminal Probe Of Company’s Data Practices

Amazon’s use of third-party seller data may land the e-commerce giant in legal hot water. On Tuesday, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., called for a criminal investigation of Jeff Bezos’ company for potential “predatory and exclusionary data practices to build and maintain a monopoly.”

Hawley made the request in a letter sent to U.S. Attorney General William Barr. His accusations stemmed from a recent Wall Street Journal report which alleged that company employees have abused third-party seller data to develop Amazon-branded rival products.

“These practices are alarming for America’s small businesses even under ordinary circumstances,” Hawley argued in his letter. “But at a time when most small retail businesses must rely on Amazon because of coronavirus-related shutdowns, predatory data practices threaten these businesses’ very existence.”

The company previously denied using sales data from individual companies during a 2019 hearing with the House Antitrust Committee. However, documents obtained by the Journal coupled with interviews from former Amazon employees suggest that the company had been doing just that.

Amazon has denied the allegations, claiming that such actions would violate company policy, and has launched an investigation into the matter. Speaking with the Verge, a company spokesperson said that its employees are not allowed to use “seller-specific data” for the purposes of choosing which products to develop.

“It’s simply incorrect to suggest that Amazon was intentionally misleading in our testimony,” a spokesperson said in another statement to CNBC.

The Department of Justice has confirmed the receipt of Hawley’s letter and is currently reviewing its claims.

Elected in 2018, Hawley has made a habit of criticizing the practices of tech companies and taking them to task for potential privacy or antitrust violations. At 40, he is the youngest member of the Senate.

I've practiced out in Hancock and have never heard that name before. Western Md is essentially a bunch of Small towns, small medical community. most are foreign H1B visa's, since Md doesn't require Board Certification of physicians prior to issuing a license. (Most citizens don't realize this, but Md has a "self declared" specialty- meaning that a physician can declare any specialty they want for practice, no special education required, they just can't get hospital privileges without a board certification in SOMETHING-hence why the "hospitalist" groups were created).

Flynn’s Former Lawyers Covington And Burling Turn Over Another Trove Of Docs, Again

Covington and Burling LLP, the former defense team for former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, turned over thousands of more pages of documents to Flynn’s new defense team that should have been submitted more than a year ago. Last week, another batch of documents withheld by former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team on Flynn was turned over to his defense that allegedly reveals that the retired three-star general did not commit any crimes, as suggested by Department of Justice prosecutors.

This new batch of voluminous documentation turned over by his former defense team – which includes emails, texts, voice messages, notebooks, handwritten notes and legal documents – amounted to approximately 6,800 additional documents bringing the total amount of documents to roughly 669,800, along with attachments.

In early April, Flynn’s former law firm revealed to the court that it had discovered emails and handwritten notes that were not turned in with the original batch of millions of documents that were required by the court to be turned over last year. At the time, they suggested the delay was due to technical issues since being ordered by the presiding federal judge six months ago to turn over all documents.

At the time, presiding Federal Judge Emmet T. Sullivan, ordered the law firm to ‘promptly turn over the entire file’ on Flynn to his new defense attorney Sidney Powell. That order was made under threat of a hearing before the District of Columbia Ethics Counsel. The law firm turned over what is described as a ‘voluminous’ amount of documents but it apparently wasn’t all the documents. In early April the law firm hinted in its supplemental notice filed with the court that there may even be more documents still to be produced.

Powell told this reporter Tuesday that she is astonished that Covington and Burling LLP had failed to locate the documents earlier and just now turned over another voluminous batch to her team.

“The Flynn defense is stunned that Covington and Burling has only now found thousands of additional documents amounting to more than 17,000 pages that should have been produced to the defense almost a year ago,” she stated. Powell, who has been battling for documents from the Department of Justice as well, said the enormity of documents withheld from Flynn’s defense is proof of the misconduct against her client.

Powell obtained the new information from the DOJ after an extensive review by attorneys appointed by U.S. Attorney General William Barr to review Flynn’s case. Barr’s team included United States attorney in St. Louis, Jeff Jensen, who is handling the Flynn matter, along with prosecutors from the office of the deputy attorney general, Jeffrey A. Rosen. The documented evidence Powell said will exonerate Flynn was delivered to Powell but is under court seal.

Boeing 737 MAX expected to remain grounded until at least August

Boeing Co’s grounded 737 MAX jet is expected to remain grounded until at least August as the manufacturer continues to grapple with software issues, people briefed on the matter told Reuters. The largest planemaker has signaled it now hopes to win regulatory approval in August for the plane’s return to service, but that could be pushed backed until fall, the sources said, as timing for meeting milestones is uncertain.

The best-selling airplane has been grounded since March 2019 after two fatal crashes in five months killed 346 people. Boeing halted production in January and has 400 undelivered MAX planes in storage.

Southwest Airlines Co (LUV.N), the largest operator of 737 MAX airplanes worldwide, said Tuesday it was removing the MAX from its schedule through Oct. 30 based on Boeing’s “recent communication on the MAX return to service date.” Last week, Reuters reported that a key certification test flight had been delayed until late May at the earliest and reported in early April the company was dealing with two new software issues. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has repeatedly said it has no timetable for approving the plane’s return to the skies.

Boeing declined to comment ahead of its earnings release Wednesday. On Monday, Chief Executive Officer Dave Calhoun during the company’s annual meeting did not repeat prior guidance that Boeing anticipated the plane would win approval for a return to service in mid-2020. “We remain confident in the MAX,” Calhoun said. Boeing said on April 7 it needed to make two new software updates to the 737 MAX’s flight control computer.

One issue involves hypothetical faults in the flight control microprocessor, which could potentially lead to a loss of control known as a runaway stabilizer. The other issue could lead to disengagement of the autopilot feature during final approach. Boeing said on April 7 it was working with Raytheon Technologies Corp RTX.N unit Collins Aerospace Systems on the software updates, but it remained unclear when Collins will complete work and how long it will take U.S. and other regulators to validate the fixes as they complete a software documentation audit.

Last month, Boeing decided to separate 737 MAX wiring bundles that regulators had flagged as potentially dangerous, Reuters reported. In February, Boeing said it would need a software update to address a 737 MAX indicator light issue. In January it disclosed a separate software issue relating to a power-up monitoring function.

Boeing is also inspecting 737 MAX airplanes after it discovered foreign object debris in undelivered airplanes in February.

Supreme Court Puts Government On the Hook for $12 Billion in Obamacare Payments

The Supreme Court on Monday ruled that the federal government is on the hook for billions in payments to health insurers who sold coverage on the Affordable Care Act exchanges.

The eight to one decision clears the way for insurers to collect upwards of $12 billion via an Obamacare program designed to help insurers manage risks they took by participating in ACA exchanges. Congress has refused to appropriate federal money for the program since 2014, leaving insurers in the lurch.

The decision is a blow to congressional Republicans and the Trump administration, who say the program is little more than a bailout for insurance companies who made hazardous business decisions. Unable to repeal the law in full, Republicans have attacked the ACA in piecemeal fashion, withholding the risk payments in Monday’s case and canceling payments to health insurers that subsidize care for low-income clients. Monday’s decision marks another failed Republican attempt to undermine the health care law.

At issue in the case is the so-called risk corridor program. The insurers who joined the ACA exchanges faced uncertainty immediately after the health care law passed and extended coverage to millions of previously uninsured and people with preexisting conditions. The risk corridors set up a system for sharing profits and losses: Companies who finished ahead would pay a portion of their profits to the government while insurers who finished behind could collect payments from the government to offset losses.

The trouble for the program was that costs greatly exceeded payments. In its first year, for example, the government collected $362 million from insurers who finished ahead, but owed those who finished behind $2.87 billion. That gap grew in the remaining two years of the program.

Congress refused to make up the difference. In turn, the insurance companies sued the government in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, accusing the government of "a massive bait and switch."

Justice Sonia Sotomayor delivered the High Court’s opinion, saying the Obamacare law required the government to make risk corridor payments.

"These holdings reflect a principle as old as the nation itself: the government should honor its obligations," Sotomayor wrote. She warned that governments that dodge their financial engagements will not be trusted or respected.

The head of the United Nations called for global leaders to “use the pandemic recovery” to roll out their global climate change agenda, including allowing fossil fuel companies to collapse and using taxpayer stimulus money to fund green jobs.

U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres said during the Petersberg Virtual Dialogue, a two-day international conference on global warming, in Berlin, Germany that the economic turmoil caused by the coronavirus pandemic presents a “rare and short window of opportunity” to accelerate their globalist 2030 Agenda project.

“It has exposed the fragility of our societies and economies to shocks,” Guterres said Tuesday, adding that “the only answer is brave, visionary and collaborative leadership.”

“Where taxpayers’ money is used to rescue businesses, it must be creating green jobs and sustainable and inclusive growth,” he said. “It must not be bailing out outdated, polluting, carbon-intensive industries.”

Guterres also took a veiled swipe at nationalism and the United States, suggesting that national sovereignty doesn’t trump the need to fight climate change.

“The Paris Agreement was largely made possible by the engagement of the United States and China,” Guterres said. “Without the contribution of the big emitters, all our efforts will be doomed.”

“Like the coronavirus, greenhouse gases respect no boundaries,” he added. “Isolation is a trap. No country can succeed alone.”

One of the reasons that they keep insisting, despite mounting evidence that it came from a lab in Wuhan, they keep insisting, no, no, it came from a wet market, or maybe it was America who did it.

They cannot admit culpability for the following reason, if they do, then there’s a clause that they put into the Phase 1 US-China Trade Deal, where in essence in this trade deal it said we would lift sanctions, we would lift the tariffs on them and then they would buy a lot of agriculture and other goods from us.

But there’s a clause that’s in there, a get out of jail free clause, which says, however, if there is a natural occurring disaster, the two parties will renegotiate. In other words, China doesn’t necessarily want to keep the terms of the deal. And so it’s very important for everybody, for them, to say, well, it’s a naturally occurring disaster coming out of the wet lab. It wasn’t China who did that.

So not only do they give themselves an out for the trade deal, that they were pressured into signing, but they also will give themselves an out if companies and countries and individuals, all come to the International Courts and try to sue China.

VP Mike Pence Tours Mayo Clinic Without Mask Despite Institution’s Pandemic Policy

US Vice President Mike Pence ignored the Mayo Clinic’s masking policy during his Tuesday visit to the health institution in Rochester, Minnesota, to learn more about COVID-19 testing as part of his White House Coronavirus Task Force duties.

Photos and videos of Pence visiting the clinic without a mask have been circulating on Twitter. Other people in the room with Pence, including US Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Hahn, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and US Representative Jim Hagedorn (R-MN) can all be seen wearing masks.

Earlier this month, the academic medical center began requiring all people on campus to wear masks amid the coronavirus pandemic. In a tweet Tuesday, the Mayo Clinic said it had notified the vice president of its masking policy before he arrived at the institution, but that tweet was deleted shortly after being published.

A photo of the vice president praying with other members of the Coronavirus Task Force in March resulted in widespread criticism of the US’ response to the crisis.

Medical Errors: STILL the Third Leading Cause of Death

In 2000, Dr. Barbara Starfield published a study revealing that doctors are the third leading cause of death in the U.S., killing an estimated 225,000 patients each year. According to a new study, medical errors kill an estimated 250,000 Americans each year, confirming that modern medicine is still the third leading cause of death in the U.S. The CDC doesn’t collect or publish information relating to medical errors or deaths attributed to iatrogenic causes. The researchers urge the CDC to include coding for medical errors on death certificates.

History tells us it can take decades before a medical truth becomes accepted as fact, and recent headlines are a perfect example of this. Sixteen years ago, I read an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) that stunned me. I was shocked. JAMA published it. Although the article did not explicitly state it, the data was very clear. So I published my summary of the study, which revealed that doctors are in fact the third leading cause of death in the U.S. You likely have seen this statistic or headline, but you may not be aware that I was the one who created that headline, which has been widely circulated on the internet and virtually never attributed to me as the person who saw through the data to make that conclusion. Dr. Barbara Starfield was the author of that JAMA study, published in 2000, and her research documented how a staggering 225,000 Americans die from iatrogenic causes, meaning their death is caused by a physician's or hospital's activity, manner, or therapy.

Her statistics showed that each year:

12,000 die from unnecessary surgery

7,000 die from medication errors in hospitals

20,000 die from other errors in hospitals

80,000 die from hospital-acquired infections

106,000 die from the negative side effects of drugs taken as prescribed.

Back then, few people believed it, but in recent days headlines echoing my original 2000 article have made the rounds in many of the major media outlets. One of the reasons why many are still surprised by these statistics is due to fundamental flaws in the tracking of medical errors, which has shielded the reality of the situation and kept it out of the public eye.

Medical Errors Are STILL the Third Leading Cause of Death

Starfield's findings 16 years ago still stand today. In fact, recent research suggests matters have only gotten worse, and the reason for this is because no affirmative action was ever taken to address and correct the situation. According to a new study published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ), medical errors now kill an estimated 250,000 Americans each year, an increase of about 25,000 people annually from Starfield's estimates. That means medical errors are STILL the third leading cause of death, right after heart disease and cancer. These numbers may actually be vastly underestimated, as deaths occurring at home or in nursing homes are not included. As shown by Starfield's research, side effects from drugs, taken as prescribed, account for the vast majority of iatrogenic deaths. Research published in 2013 estimated that preventable hospital errors kill 210,000 Americans each year — a figure that is very close to the latest statistics. However, when they included deaths related to diagnostic errors, errors of omission, and failure to follow guidelines, the number skyrocketed to 440,000 preventable hospital deaths each year. This too hints at the true enormity of the problem.

She’s not going away.

While the mainstream media has barely covered Tara Reade’s allegations that then-Sen. Biden sexually assaulted her when she worked for him as a 29-year-old staffer — and top TV talking heads like CNN’s Anderson Cooper refuse to ask the presumptive presidential nominee about the claims — Reade is upping her game.

Reade is calling on Biden to release the records from his 36 years as a senator, which are currently inaccessible to the public and are kept at the University of Delaware, Fox News reports.

“I’m calling for the release of the documents being held by the University of Delaware that contain Biden’s staff personnel records because I believe it will have my complaint form, as well as my separation letter and other documents,” Reade told Fox News on Tuesday. “Maybe if other staffers that have tried to file complaints would come to light — why are they under seal? And why won’t they be released to the public?”

Fox News on Tuesday asked the University of Delaware for access to the Biden records. The university refused, saying that the papers will not be released until two years after Biden retires.

“The collection of former Vice President Biden’s senatorial papers is still being processed, with many items yet to be cataloged,” an email from a school spokeswoman said. “The entire collection will remain closed to the public until two years after Mr. Biden retires from public life.”

Reade said during a podcast in March that Biden pinned her against a wall and penetrated her with his fingers without her consent in his Senate office in 1993. She was 29 at the time, Biden was 51.

“He greeted me, he remembered my name, and then we were alone. It was the strangest thing,” Reade said. “There was no like, exchange really. He just had me up against the wall.

“It happened all at once,” she said. “His hands were on me and underneath my clothes, and he went down my skirt and then up inside it and he penetrated me with his fingers and he was kissing me at the same time and he was saying something to me.

“I remember him saying first, like, as he was doing it, ‘Do you wanna go somewhere else?’ And then him saying to me when I pulled away, he got finished doing what he was doing and I kind of pulled back and he said, ‘Come on, man. I heard you liked me.’ “

More evidence that Reade had told people about the alleged incident shortly after it happened emerged last week when a video clip from 1993 surfaced that allegedly shows Reade’s mother calling into CNN to ask what her daughter should do after having problems with a “prominent senator.”

Federal prosecutors are reportedly probing potentially dangerous missteps in the production of Boeing’s 737 MAX jet, adding to intense scrutiny of the troubled planemaker.

Both the US Department of Justice and the Federal Aviation Administration are examining various safety problems on the 737 MAX assembly line, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday. The report follows Boeing’s February admission that it found tools, rags and other debris in the fuel tanks of more than 30 737 MAX planes.

The appearance of debris can stem from “quality-control lapses” like those that have been flagged for prosecutors, according to the Journal.

The criminal and civil inquiries reportedly build on a grand jury probe of the plane’s problematic flight control systems. That investigation has focused on what Boeing staff told the FAA about dangers with the plane before it was involved in two crashes that killed 346 people.

Both the Justice Department and the FAA have interviewed Ed Pierson, a former Boeing manager who raised red flags to the company and the feds about safety problems at Boeing’s factory in Renton, Washington, according to the paper.

Pierson has also told the House Transportation Committee about how Boeing’s push to speed up production allegedly led to “chaos” at the factory. The committee and the Justice Department were “the only two entities which responded with any sense of alacrity or urgency,” Pierson’s attorney, Eric Havian, told the Journal.

Boeing declined to comment on the reported investigations Tuesday. But the company said it launched an internal investigation and took corrective actions after finding debris in undelivered 737 MAX planes.

“Safely returning the 737 MAX to service is our top priority,” Boeing said in a statement.

The 737 MAX — which was once Boeing’s fastest-selling airplane — has been grounded for more than a year since the pair of fatal crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia. The fallout from the crashes led the Chicago-based company to oust CEO Dennis Muilenburg and replace him with David Calhoun.

Brenda Stephany Mata was also set up by an undercover officer and allegedly agreed to provide an eyelash service inside her home. The 20-yer-old, who was also taken to the Webb County Jail was charged with the same violation, which carries a punishment of up to 180 days in jail, a $2,000 fine or both, The Laredo Times reported.

“Both of the violators independently solicited customers via social media. Drug Overdose, Head Trauma Deaths Added To Coronavirus Death Toll

A 37-year-old California man who died of a drug overdose has been added to the novel coronavirus death toll.

Though the death of the unidentified man was caused by a drug overdose, he also tested positive for the novel coronavirus, which was coded as a “significant continuing condition,” according to Ventura County spokeswoman Ashley Bautista, VA Star reported Thursday.

“Ventura County’s coronavirus death toll increased to 16 on Thursday as county officials reported two additional deaths, including a 37-year-old man,” the report said.

“The man died as a result of a drug overdose while infected with COVID-19, a significant contributing condition, according to county spokeswoman Ashley Bautista. He is the youngest victim to die from the virus yet in the county,” VA Star added.

Last month, a 61-year-old Pennsylvania man who died from a head injury and tested positive for COVID-19 was added to the coronavirus death toll, too.

“Lehigh County Coroner Eric Minnich confirmed the patient died Friday night at St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill,” Lehigh Valley Live reported. “He said the primary cause of the man’s death was a head injury from a fall at home, but that the virus was listed as a contributing factor to his death.”

Earlier this month, leading voice on the White House Coronavirus Task Force Dr. Deborah Birx explained that COVID-19 deaths in the United States have “very liberal” recording guidance, noting that anyone who tests positive for the virus and dies would be included in their numbers of coronavirus deaths.

“I think in this country, we are taking a very liberal approach to mortality. And I think the reporting here has been pretty straightforward over the last five to six weeks,” she said, adding, “If someone dies with COVID-19, we are counting that.”

“There are other countries, that if you have a pre-existing condition, and let’s say the virus called you to go to the ICU (intensive care unit) and then have a heart or kidney problem,” she added. “Some countries are recording that as a kidney issue, or a heart issue, and not a COVID-19 death.” In the U.S., Dr. Birx suggested, “we’re still recording it” as a COVID-19 death.

Pennsylvania has had to remove hundreds of coronavirus deaths from its official death count, following questions of accuracy and highlighted discrepancies by area coroners.

"We will win war" against coronavirus, Knesset speaker says

Knesset Speaker Benny Gantz compared the fight against the coronavirus to Israel's wars in his keynote speech at Tuesday night's Independence Day Torch Lighting Ceremony on Jerusalem's Mount Herzl.

"These are difficult times and we must brace ourselves for the times ahead that promise to be no less difficult," Gantz said. "For seven decades, we faced tangible enemies who sought to destroy us, and in doing so, helped define our shared ethos - an ethos of existential struggle. The IDF and our security forces are prepared now, as always, to take on those threats, and, for that, I salute them."

Gantz explained how there are ways in which COVID-19 is even worse than war.

"Now we face an unfamiliar foe, which doesn’t tell us apart -Jews, Arabs, Druze, and Circassian, Ultra-Orthodox, religious, and secular, people on the Right and the Left," he said. "It poses an enormous human and medical challenge, and in the process shares a valuable lesson about social responsibility: namely, that we are all our brothers' keepers. It is our solidarity and commonality of purpose that guarantee us victory. It is our communal spirit and sense of mutual responsibility that help us touch eternity."

Gantz said that in the struggle against this foe, medical personnel, soldiers, policemen, emergency response teams, and the civil sector are all fighting shoulder to shoulder. He said they are Israel's front line in that battle and that Israel all pray for their success, from their balconies and from the bottom of their hearts.

"We will win this war, and we will use the lessons we have gleaned from it to help us build a new ethos, and weave a new narrative of social solidarity and mutual responsibility – one that is defined from within, rather than by external enemies," he said.

Gantz then called for "ensuring unity, while safeguarding democracy and protecting everybody’s rights."

He then lit the first honorary torch of the ceremony, representing the Knesset.

Hospitals turning to UV light to disinfect medical gear

Supplies of personal protective equipment remain scarce across the United States, especially the N95 respirator masks that health care workers use to protect themselves from the new coronavirus. To help extend the useful life of available equipment, researchers and hospitals are turning to a long-known, if little-used, means of disinfection - ultraviolet radiation.

"It's generally well known that UV-C radiation kills microbes," said Bob Karlicek Jr., director of the Center for Lighting Enabled Systems and Applications at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. "What's not known is the specific quantities of UV-C radiation that is required to fully disinfect complex equipment like N95 masks, because you have to get the light to the inside of the mask." Karlicek led a team that created a UV-C system designed to disinfect N95 masks. It's being tested at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

President Donald Trump was ridiculed last week after publicly speculating that UV light could be used to treat COVID-19 infection inside the human body. "Supposing we hit the body with a tremendous - whether it's ultraviolet or just very powerful light - and I think you said that hasn't been checked, but you're going to test it," Trump said at a media briefing. "And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way, and I think you said you're going to test that, too. Sounds interesting." Experts quickly came forward to note that UV light can be harmful to humans, and that it would be impossible for ultraviolet rays to reach deep within the body to kill coronavirus in the lungs and other organs.

That's also part of the problem with using UV light to disinfect protective gear like masks, gowns and gloves, Karlicek said. UV light disinfects by breaking down the genetic structure of coronaviruses and other microbes, he said. The virus either dies or is rendered incapable of replicating. But that means the ultraviolet rays must directly strike the virus - meaning every square inch of the equipment must be exposed to UV light to be properly disinfected. Any part that falls within a shadow might still carry active coronavirus, Karlicek said.

The UV rays must also be very powerful. Mere sunlight alone will not kill the coronavirus, experts say. The Rensselaer team's solution is a conveyor system that runs N95 masks through a battery of mercury UV lights. "That allows us to have a vertical arrangement of UV-C mercury lamps and then suspend the masks carefully on a moving framework that would go in between the lamps, so you could simultaneously irradiate masks from both sides," Karlicek said. The system stands about 8-feet tall and about 8-feet long. The masks are hung on a series of hooks, and the speed of the conveyor belt determines how much radiation the masks receive. Mount Sinai doctors are testing the system to figure out the exact level of UV exposure needed to fully disinfect the masks, Karlicek said. "There's no doubt we'll be able to deactivate the virus at the right dose," he said. "The question is how many uses can we get? Does the UV light damage the straps that hold the mask on the face? These are things that need to be worked out."

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that the coronavirus pandemic “would be a terrible crisis to waste” by not creating “universal health care.”

Clinton, the Democratic Party nominee in the 2016 presidential election, was speaking to former Vice President Joe Biden in a virtual women’s “town hall” meeting, during which she endorsed him for president.

Biden nodded in agreement as Clinton spoke about exploiting the coronavirus pandemic to bring about the left’s dream of “universal health care”:

This is a high-stakes time, because of the pandemic. But this is also a really high-stakes election. And every form of health care should continue to be available, including reproductive health care for every woman in this country. And then it needs to be part of a much larger system that eventually — and quickly, I hope — gets us to universal health care. [Biden nods] So I can only say, “Amen,” to everything you’re saying, but also to, again, enlist people that this would be a terrible crisis to waste, as the old saying goes. [Biden nods] We’ve learned a lot about what our absolute frailties are in our country when it comes to health justice and economic justice.

The “old saying” to which Clinton referred may have been the statement of President Barack Obama’s incoming chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel in December 2008, who told the Wall Street Journal: “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.”

Emanuel specifically noted that health care was one policy area that the Obama administration hoped to use the opportunity of the financial crisis — then in full swing — to address. Just over a year later, President Obama signed Obamacare into law.

Republicans criticized the program for, among other things, serving as a “Trojan horse” for universal, government-run health care. In the 2020 Democratic Party presidential primary, Biden theoretically rejected the more ambitious “Medicare for All” policy adopted by many of his rivals, but embraced a policy allowing all individuals under 65 to buy into Medicare. He has since offered to expand to those 60 years old or older, in a bit to appease supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

Democrats have repeatedly suggested using the coronavirus crisis to advance specific ideological ends. House Majority Whip Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC), a key Biden supporter, reportedly told fellow House Democrats during a conference call on the first coronavirus relief bill in March: ““This is a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.”

Nearly 60,000 Americans have died from coronavirus thus far, and there have been over one million confirmed cases.

Clinton did not explain how “universal health care” would have helped; countries like Italy, with a fully socialized health care system, were among the hardest hit by the pandemic, which began in late December in communist China.

On Tuesday General Flynn’s Attorney Sidney Powell joined Lou Dobbs to discuss the continued case against the former Trump National Security Advisor.

Sidney Powell opened up the interview by asserting that her client, General Michael Flynn, was framed by Barack Obama FBI and DOJ officials.

Sidney Powell: There’s no doubt about. August 15th Strzok and Page texted each other about the insurance policy they discussed in McCabe’s office. The very next day they opened the quote “investigation” on General Flynn. And the day after that as we just learned in the IG Report in December they sent an agent into what was supposed to be a trusted presidential briefing solely because General Flynn was going to be there and they wanted to collect information on him and gauge his mannerisms in the event they needed to interview him later, i.e. if Trump was elected to the presidency and Flynn ended up in the White House.

Judge rejects motion to remove Chinese billionaire's corporation as defendant in sexual assault lawsuit

It is difficult to determine when a CEO is "off duty," a Hennepin County judge said in a ruling.

Billionaire Richard Liu, CEO of JD.com, is accused of raping a University of Minnesota student in 2018. The company’s lawyers don’t want JD.com to be a target of the lawsuit.

A judge rejected a request by Chinese billionaire Richard Liu to remove his corporation as a defendant in a lawsuit filed by a University of Minnesota student who claims she was raped in 2018.

Hennepin County District Judge Edward Wahl declined the motion to dismiss JD.com from the litigation, in which Liu is also individually named as a defendant. The company, similar to Amazon, is one of China’s two giant online retailers.

Liu’s attorneys argued that JD.com should not be implicated in the woman’s accusations because the sexual contact occurred off company premises and on Liu’s own time. Liu has maintained that sex with the woman was consensual, and he was never charged in connection with the allegation.

In his ruling issued Monday, Wahl declared that “it is difficult to determine when defendant Liu is ‘on duty’ and ‘off duty,’” as a CEO, observing “the determination is significantly more difficult for someone identified as a CEO and owner of an international corporation” compared to an average worker.

Peter Walsh, an attorney for JD.com, said the ruling was “not unexpected,” and that they expect to prevail once more evidence is admitted.

“Courts often conclude, as the court did here, that they cannot dismiss claims without the benefit of additional facts,” Walsh said. “The judge specifically stated that he was not making any factual findings and that it was simply ‘premature’ to rule in JD.com’s favor.”

The woman, Jingyao Liu, a Chinese undergraduate at the U who is no relation to Liu, has alleged Richard Liu got her drunk at a business networking party he hosted in August 2018, then sexually assaulted her in her apartment.

Liu was arrested by Minneapolis police, then released. After an investigation, Hennepin County Attorney Michael Freeman declined to file criminal charges because he did not believe he could convince a jury of Richard Liu’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Wahl concluded that JD.com’s attorneys did not provide sufficient information to conclude the company should not be held liable, and more evidence was needed to reach a determination.

Richard Liu’s Chinese name is Liu Qiangdong. He is the 40th richest man in China and has a net worth of $9.6 billion, according to Forbes Magazine.

He was attending a special business doctorate program at the Carlson School of Management at the U for some of the wealthiest executives in China when the incident occurred.

Jingyao Liu, who was 21 years old at the time of the alleged assault, was asked by a Carlson School dean to volunteer during a week in which the Chinese executives were attending the school.

Wahl was not asked by Liu’s legal team to dismiss the case altogether, a motion expected to come later.

The company had argued it could not be held liable for the acts of an employee and the alleged assault did not occur when Liu was on the job. Jingyao Liu’s attorneys say the company bears responsibility because it was part of an uninterrupted chain of events that began with a corporate-sponsored party and continued with a drive to her apartment in a corporate paid-for van.

Wahl noted the woman’s claims that Richard Liu told her that she could “be a woman just like Wendi Deng.” Deng is corporate magnate Rupert Murdoch’s ex-wife and was employed by Murdoch’s firms. “The mention of such name arguably implies business opportunities,” Wahl wrote.

Joseph Daly, professor emeritus at Mitchell Hamline School of Law, described Wahl’s decision as “quite significant” and a likely turning point in the lawsuit which was filed last year. Daly, who is not involved in the litigation, predicted it would spur JD.com and Richard Liu to settle rather than subject themselves to drawn-out depositions and more publicity.

However, Jingyao Liu’s attorney, Wil Florin, said his client does not want to settle. “Our client is intent on going to trial,” he said. “It’s hardened her resolve to get this case decided by a jury.”

Oxford University Vaccine Protects Monkeys From COVID-19, Human Trials Underway

A potential coronavirus vaccine developed by Oxford University has shown promising results, protecting six rhesus macaque monkeys from large amounts of COVID-19.

According to a Monday report by the New York Times, researchers at the National Institute of Health Rocky Mountain Laboratory injected the six monkeys with the Oxford vaccine and then exposed them to large quantities of the virus, which had been shown to cause illness in other monkeys.

However, 28 days later, all six monkeys were healthy, according to Vincent Munster, the researcher who carried out the test.

“The rhesus macaque is pretty much the closest thing we have to humans,” Munster said this week, also noting that his team is planning to submit the study results to a peer-reviewed journal.

A Thursday news release by Oxford revealed that researchers have started testing the vaccine in human volunteers. Around 1,100 people are currently part of the trial.

Chinese company SinoVac has also started a clinical trial with 144 people after finding that its vaccine helped treat rhesus macaques infected with the coronavirus.

The World Health Organization revealed last Thursday that there are a total of six COVID-19 vaccines that have entered human trials, and 77 others are still in various stages of development.

In recent weeks, researchers in New York have also been investigating whether famotidine, a common, over-the-counter drug which is used to treat ulcers, heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease and is the active ingredient in Pepcid, may help in the treatment of COVID-19.

A video of law enforcement officers telling a 93-year-old couple that they can’t sit in chairs on a beach in Oxnard, California, is currently going viral on social media.

The officers, who were on horseback, were heckled by other beachgoers for harassing the couple about their chairs.

The beaches are currently open, and the couple would be allowed to be there — as long as they ditched the chairs and sat in the sand.

Last Thursday California Governor Gavin Newsom stated that, “people are prone to want to go to the beaches, parks, playgrounds and go on a hike. If it is open, just abide by social distancing.”

This lead to massive crowds flocking to the beaches over the weekend, which Newsom was not too pleased about.

“This virus doesn’t take the weekends off, this virus doesn’t go home because it’s a beautiful, sunny day along our coast … We can’t see the images like we saw, particularly on Saturday in Newport Beach and elsewhere,” he snapped after 40,000 people flocked to Newport Beach on Friday.

Oxnard has kept their beaches and parks open throughout the shut down.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has announced his plan to introduce legislation that would prohibit President Donald Trump from signing his name on future stimulus checks.

It’s legislation that some Republican lawmakers call petty.

The legislation, titled the ‘No Politics in Pandemic Recovery Act,’ or ‘No PR Act,’ would prevent taxpayer money from being used for any “promotional activity” including President Trump or Vice President Pence’s name, likeness or signature. According to a Politico report, Sen. Schumer’s goal is to add this legislation to the next coronavirus stimulus package.

The Senate Minority Leader is planning to introduce this legislation following the Treasury Department’s decision to print President Trump’s name on the $1,200 stimulus checks for millions of Americans impacted by the economic devastation of the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent shutdowns.

Despite calling out the President for his signatures, labeling them as a PR stunt, Sen. Schumer has never been one to shy away from the media spotlight. An old joke in Washington goes, “The most dangerous place in Washington is between Chuck Schumer and a TV camera.” There is arguably no bigger “publicity hound” in Congress than the Democrat from Brooklyn, who has been on television dozens of times in the last six weeks.

Senator Schumer elaborated on his idea in a statement to The Hill. “Trump unfortunately appears to see the pandemic as just another opportunity to promote his own political interests,” said Schumer. “The No PR Act puts an end to the president’s exploitation of taxpayer money for promotional material that only benefits his re-election campaign.”

He added that “delaying the release of stimulus checks so his signature could be added is a waste of time and money.”

Moreover, Schumer’s colleague, Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin last week, in which he asked for “details about how you made this decision to benefit the president politically, which may delay delivery of critical funds to millions of Americans struggling to pay the rent and put food on the table.”

Last week, Congress passed a $484 billion coronavirus aid bill to provide $380 billion to small businesses, $75 billion for hospitals and $25 billion for testing.

The Senate is set to return to Washington on Monday, May 4.

Cue the debunking: Two California doctors go viral with dubious COVID test conclusions

They dressed in scrubs. They sounded scientific. And last week’s message from two Bakersfield doctors was exactly what many stuck-at-home Americans wanted to hear: COVID-19 is no worse than influenza, its death rates are low and we should all go back to work and school.

Drs. Dan Erickson and Artin Massihi, who own urgent care centers in the region, had called a press conference to release their conclusions about the results of 5,213 COVID-19 tests they had conducted at their centers and testing site. They claimed the results showed that the virus had spread further in the area, undetected, and thus wasn’t all that dangerous.

But public health experts were quick to debunk the doctors’ findings as misguided and riddled with statistical errors — and an example of the kind of misleading information they are forced to waste precious time disputing.

The doctors should never have assumed that the patients they tested — who came for walk-in COVID-19 tests or who sought urgent care for symptoms they experienced in the middle of a pandemic — are representative of the general population, said Dr. Carl Bergstrom, a University of Washington biologist who specializes in infectious disease modeling. He likened their extrapolations to “estimating the average height of Americans from the players on an NBA court.” And most credible studies of COVID-19 death rates in reality are far higher than the ones the doctors presented.

“They’ve used methods that are ludicrous to get results that are completely implausible,” Bergstrom said.

Still, the early media coverage went viral. A local television report on the Bakersfield doctors’ press conference garnered more than 4.3 million views on YouTube. Elon Musk, the Tesla founder who wants to reopen his Fremont manufacturing plant this week, praised the doctors to his 33 million-plus Twitter followers. Last night, the doctors got a conservative national audience for their views on Fox News, appearing on Laura Ingraham’s show.

The DOJ on Tuesday unsealed several search warrants in the Mueller deep state investigation and set up of Roger Stone.

The newly released documents offer a more detailed version than was previously known of how former special counsel Robert Mueller and other federal investigators aggressively collected evidence on Roger Stone in their corrupt and criminal probe of the Trump campaign and administration – reported CNN.

The Mueller team knew before the investigation was launched that there was no collusion with Russia.

On Tuesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Your World,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) stated that he isn’t interested in borrowing money to pay for an infrastructure bill, infrastructure is “unrelated to the coronavirus pandemic,” and the Senate will pass an infrastructure bill that is “more modest” at a later point.

McConnell said, “Well, we have an equal interest in doing an infrastructure bill. We don’t have an equal interest in borrowing money from future generations to pay for it. In other words, it’s unrelated to the coronavirus pandemic, which is the reason we have run up the national debt $2.8 trillion. So, I agree with the president, infrastructure’s important. I just don’t believe that we should be borrowing, adding to the national debt. We’ve added $2.8 trillion to the national debt in the last month. I just don’t think that’s the path to getting an infrastructure bill. I do agree with him that we need to do that. We’re going to pass a more modest infrastructure bill in the Senate in the near future since we’re coming back to work next Monday.”

He added that the next round of economic stimulus will not include infrastructure.

George Soros announced today that he is creating a new university network to better prepare students for current and future global challenges. He is endowing the network with one billion dollars ($1 billion) and asking other philanthropists to contribute.

The network, which will operate throughout the world, is named the Open Society University Network (OSUN). It will integrate teaching and research across higher education institutions worldwide. It will offer simultaneously taught network courses and joint degree programs and regularly bring students and faculty from different countries together with in-person and online discussions. The network aims to reach the students who need it the most and to promote the values of open society—including free expression and diversity of beliefs.

OSUN will seek to promote rigorous education and reach institutions in need of international partners, as well as neglected populations, such as refugees, incarcerated people, the Roma and other displaced groups. OSUN, with the help of its allies, is ready to start a massive “scholars at risk” program, merging a large number of academically excellent but politically endangered scholars into this new global network.

Already, OSUN is connecting institutions of higher learning and is holding networked courses that unite students and faculty from several universities located in different parts of the world in the classroom, sharing faculty and conducting joint research projects in which people from many universities collaborate.

Mr. Soros said: “I believe our best hope lies in access to an education that reinforces the autonomy of the individual by cultivating critical thinking and emphasizing academic freedom. I consider the Open Society University Network to be the most important and enduring project of my life and I should like to see it implemented while I am still around.”

Mr. Soros, who has given more than $32 billion over the past 30 years to education and social justice causes, added. “We are looking for farsighted partner institutions who feel a responsibility for the future of our civilization, people who are inspired by the goals of OSUN and want to participate in its realization.”

The Central European University (CEU), which Soros founded, and Bard College will form the core of the new network. They will partner with Arizona State University, a world leader in distance learning, and other institutions around the globe, such as the American University of Central Asia in Kyrgyzstan and BRAC University in Bangladesh.

“We can’t build a global network on our own,” said Mr Soros. “I hope that those who share this vision will join us in making it a reality.”

Leon Botstein, president of Bard College who will serve as chancellor of OSUN, said: “OSUN is the most transformative initiative in higher education I have witnessed in my career. Uber reportedly may cut around 20% of workforce; CTO resigns

The chief technology officer of Uber Technologies Inc. UBER, +0.13% is resigning, amid a report that the ride-hailing company is discussing plans to cut about 20% of its workforce. The departure of CTO Thuan Pham was disclosed Tuesday in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, which said his last day will be May 16. Pham has been with Uber since 2013 and is its longest-serving executive, according to The Information, which also reported the potential layoffs. The Information reported that Uber could cut more than 5,400 jobs due to a sharp drop in ridership during the coronavirus pandemic, including about 800 engineering jobs. Earlier this month, Uber withdrew its annual guidance and warned that its net losses would widen. Uber shares are down about 19% year to date, compared to the S&P 500's 11% decline.

BUTLER COUNTY, IOWA – U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), a senior member and former chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, is calling on the Justice Department to grant access to newly disclosed material related to the FBI’s handling of its case against Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn. The high-profile case has prompted questions about the investigative and legal tactics used against Flynn.

“Simply stated, after years of rampant speculation and publicly reported inconsistencies regarding how the FBI handled the case, it’s time for the public to know the full set of facts relating to Lt. Gen. Flynn, including any and all government misconduct,” Grassley wrote in a letter requesting DOJ to unseal the records. At a minimum, Grassley urged that it be made available for congressional oversight.

In December 2018, Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to investigators during a January 2017 interview regarding his contacts with Russians, however Flynn has since claimed that he was pressured into pleading guilty and was poorly represented by his former legal team. The new material, which Flynn’s attorneys have characterized as “exculpatory,” was relayed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri, which was recently tasked with reviewing DOJ’s and FBI’s handling of the case. It’s currently shielded from disclosure by a protective order.

Grassley first sought details surrounding Flynn’s 2016 contacts with the Russian ambassador in a joint letter with Sen Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) in February of 2017. Grassley, then Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, delayed confirmation of Deputy Attorney General nominee Rod Rosenstein in order to secure the requested briefing, which he and Feinstein received on March 15, 2017. In that briefing, then-FBI Director James Comey told the senators that he saw no evidence that Flynn had lied to investigators, a point he later reiterated to the House Intelligence Committee. Comey also testified that he did not believe DOJ would charge Flynn.

In August of that year, Grassley called on the Defense Intelligence Agency to declassify information he had reviewed because it “would be in the public interest, and is in the interest of fairness to Lt. General Flynn.”

In a series of exchanges in 2018, Grassley urged DOJ to produce a transcript of Flynn’s phone call with the Russian ambassador and records summarizing the FBI’s interview with Flynn, which was conducted, in-part, by Peter Strzok and occurred without a lawyer present. Comey later bragged that he and then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe ignored the FBI’s interview protocol for high-level White House officials. Strzok was eventually removed from the investigation after his text messages revealed biases against the Trump presidency. The department rejected the request on the grounds that the public record in the Flynn case was sufficient. Later, Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein met with Grassley and suggested that Congress should be satisfied with the facts described in the plea agreement.

On February 15, 2017, as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, I wrote to the Department with Ranking Member Feinstein, requesting a copy of the call transcript between Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn and the Russian ambassador and the FBI report summarizing the intercepted call. Instead of providing the requested records, and as a result of my questions and concerns relating to the Flynn case, I received a briefing from then-Director Comey on March 15, 2017. In that briefing, Director Comey stated that the FBI agents that interviewed Lt. Gen. Flynn, “saw nothing that led them to believe [he was] lying” and he led us to believe that the Department was unlikely to prosecute Flynn for false statements. Later, during Comey’s book tour, he denied any memory of those comments.

On May 11, 2018, I requested categories of documents relating to the Flynn case from Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein, including call transcripts, 302s, and other potentially exculpatory evidence and requested to interview a fact witness to the case, Special Agent Pientka.

On May 29, 2018, the Department responded and declined to produce the requested records and arrange for Special Agent Pientka to be interviewed. The Department also admitted in that letter that it had yet to provide all exculpatory evidence to Flynn.

On June 6, 2018, I wrote a follow-up letter to Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein and noted that if the facts of the case are inconsistent with the plea agreement, that would be an extraordinarily concerning finding and one that would warrant continued congressional oversight. I further noted in that letter that the United States Congress has a separate, independent, constitutional interest in all information, including exculpatory information, relating to the Flynn case. After that June 2018 letter, my staff and I met with Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein where he resisted congressional oversight and suggested that Congress should be satisfied with the facts described in the plea agreement. It is certainly in the interest of Congress and the American people to know whether the FBI and the Department withheld facts in the course of their investigation and prosecution of an American citizen that are materially inconsistent with his plea.

This is no ordinary criminal case. One of the agents who interviewed Lt. Gen. Flynn, Peter Strzok, was later removed from the Russia investigation after his texts demonstrating animus and bias toward the President were discovered. Additionally, former Director McCabe was fired for lack of candor regarding a leak to the Wall Street Journal, and Lt. Gen. Flynn was an adverse witness in a pending sexual discrimination case against Mr. McCabe at the time Mr. McCabe was supervising an inquiry targeting Lt. Gen. Flynn.[1] Further, the Flynn case was at the center of a political firestorm over the President’s alleged statements about it to Director Comey. Moreover, Flynn himself “had told both White House Counsel and the Chief of Staff at least twice that the FBI agents had told him he would not be charged,”[2] which is consistent with what Director Comey told me and my staff. The FBI’s conduct is ripe for congressional oversight.

According to an April 24, 2020, letter from the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Timothy Shea, the Attorney General directed that the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri conduct an independent review of the Flynn case. As a result of this review, the EDMO has identified and produced new documents to Flynn’s legal team, which they have publicly characterized as exculpatory evidence.

Simply stated, after years of rampant speculation and publicly reported inconsistencies regarding how the FBI handled the case, it’s time for the public to know the full set of facts relating to Lt. Gen. Flynn, including any and all government misconduct. In light of the extraordinary public and congressional interest in this case, I request that you work with Flynn’s attorneys to unseal these new records provided to them so that the public can access the material. In the alternative, I request that you amend the protective order so that Congress can review the information in light of its constitutional oversight prerogatives.

The highly redacted documents revealed a startling fact, the 302 from the first interview with Flynn on Jan. 24, 2017 appears to be missing. The ball is in Hannity's court now

The New York Times responded Tuesday to a demand from Sean Hannity to retract claims made against him in their article about coronavirus and apologize.

"The columns are accurate, do not reasonably imply what you and Mr. Hannity allege they do, and constitute protected opinion," wrote David E. McCraw, the attorney representing the New York Times.

"In response to your request for an apology and retraction, our answer is 'no,' " he concludes.

Hannity's lawyers threatened to sue the Times over an article published on April 18 documenting the death of Joe Joyce from coronavirus.

The family of Joyce say that he was warned not to go on a cruise during the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, but that he ignored the warnings because of the news broadcasts on Fox News downplaying the threat.

One of those cited was a segment by Sean Hannity.

On Monday, Hannity sent a demand from his lawyers that they apologize and retract the story because his report was chronologically a week after Joyce decided to go on the cruise.

"We demand that you promptly remove the foregoing false and defamatory statements from the Stories and any subsequent republications in print or any other medium, and publish a full, fair and conspicuous retraction, correction and apology as to each of the false and defamatory statements identified above," read the letter from Hannity.

In 2017 Hannity threatened to sue former President Barack Obama with the "biggest lawsuit" possible over reports that he had been incidentally surveilled as part of the investigation into Russian election interference.

This is California’s reopening plan for stores, offices, schools, sports, concerts, theaters

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Tuesday released a four-stage plan for reopening parts of the California economy after weeks of stay-at-home home rules that have been credited with slowing the spread of the coronavirus.

The phases are designed to slowly reopen the state while preventing new outbreaks that could lead to another shutdown. There are no timetables attached; rather, officials will use benchmarks around testing, hospitalizations and other factors.

Under the plan, some retail businesses, manufacturing, schools and open spaces could reopen first, with strict social distancing rules. Down the line, certain entertainment venues and religious institutions could reopen. Live sports, concerts and other crowded events would be the last to reopen under the plan.

Here’s a breakdown of that four-stage plan:

STAGE 1: Safety and preparedness

Goal: Making work as safe as possible for those on the front lines

This phase is now underway.

Continue to build out testing and contact-tracing capabilities and hospital surge capacity.

Continue to make workplaces as safe as possible for essential workers.

Work on adaptations to the physical setting and workflow in hospitals and other settings.

Build a safety net for essential workforce.

Make PPE more widely available.

Incorporate individual behavior changes.

Prepare safety guidelines for an expanded force of front-line workers.

Stage 2: Lower-risk workplaces reopen

Goal: Creating opportunities for lower-risk sectors to make adaptations and reopen.

In this phase, modified school programs and child care reopen as well as the following sectors and spaces:

Retail (with curbside pickup, for example)

Manufacturing

Offices (when teleworking is not possible)

Additional public spaces

An expanded workforce safety net could mean:

Wage replacement so workers can stay home when sick.

Adaptions for reopened schools and child-care facilities could mean:

Summer programs and an earlier start to the next academic year, in July or August.

Listen up normies. Am about to share another example of how deep the corruption lies.

SonAnon as a civilian dependent had the honor and privilege of learning Mandarin Chinese as a student at the Defense Language Institute (DLI) at the Presidio of Monterey. SonAnon graduated with good marks and 3/2 score. SonAnon then, after graduation, went to live in Beijing for a year for a marketing company that facilitated American and European companies that wanted to do business in China. He was the only Westerner in his office, and it was a total immersion experience. He even lived in a Chinese huotang (?Sp) instead of renting an apartment in the Embassy district where most of the Westerners live. When he came back the US, his Chinese was EXCELLENT - damn near "Native Fluency" level. SonAnon speaks alot of languages and is very linguistically gifted. SonAnon did a summer fellowship at Harvard working on a linguistics project reconstructing a dead language.

Fast forward a few months - FBI in Chinatown, DC has a "hot fill/critical billet" for a Chinese speaker for their gangs unit. SonAnon applies. Can't even get an acknowledgement of his application, let alone an interview. Note that SonAnon has a degree from DLI, conferred by the US Congress as a DoS/DoD certified linguist and translator. I believe that DLI is the only institution that has their degrees granted by Congress. It's pretty fricking cool.

Anyways, FBI finally and grudgingly grants him an interview. He goes to the Chinatown office. NO ONE IN THE OFFICE SPEAKS CHINESE. They make him do the exact same language test he did to graduate DLI, except that they have theirs "scored in house".

SonAnon had a 3/2 after graduating DLI and then spent a year totally immersed in Beijing China. FBI came back and told him his score was "barely 1/1/" and he had "no fluency" in Chinese.

A seat at DLI is approximately $250K. It is a very intensive school. The taxpayers paid for his education. He wanted to give back to this country, and to use his skills for good. The FBI lied and said he had "no fluency" in Chinese. We later found out from an FBI friend that they were holding that job open for an African-American candidate. Except that there are no African-American candidates that can pass the Mandarin course. (Several have tried and have been recycled and still can't graduate).

So under the Obama regime, they would rather "hold" a job for a politically connected AA rather than fill the billet with a qualified candidate, and outright lied to refuse to hire someone who was qualified.

This is the current state of affairs in the US.

Every since HR person in every single Federal Agency is an Obama hookup or an Obama sympathizer, ALL OF THEM, and they all need to be fired otherwise nothing will change.

This is the shit they do. You don't think that the FBI intelligence operations can't use a DLI trained Mandarin linguist with experience from living in Beijing? Ooops, sorry, he's the wrong color, wrong gender and registered to vote with the wrong political party. So sorry!

California Governor to Allow Childcare and Schools to Open in ‘Weeks, Not Months,’ But Says He Will Keep Churches Closed Longer

California’s Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom announced his plan to allow businesses, schools and childcare facilities to open back up in “weeks, not months,” but will keep churches closed longer.

Newsom’s decision to not allow churches to hold services appears to be completely arbitrary given the other businesses that will be opening their doors.

According to his plan, the state will allow businesses to reopen in four stages.

During the first stage, which they are currently in, only businesses deemed “essential” are open.

The next stage will be the opening of non-essential manufacturing (toys, furniture, clothing, etc.), schools, childcare facilities, retail businesses for curbside pick-up and offices where working remotely isn’t possible, but can be modified to make the environment safer for employees. Newsom said that this stage is “weeks, not months away.”

The third stage will be higher risk workplaces, which require close proximity to other people, such as hair salons, nail salons, gyms, movie theaters — and churches. This stage, he said, will be “months, not weeks” in the future.

The final stage will opening the state back up fully, including major events such as concerts and conventions.

Hackers believed to be backed by Russia this weekend publicly released more than 2,000 documents connected to billionaire Democratic donor George Soros and his Open Society Foundations.

The documents detail the ins and outs of Soros’s groups, which have funded a slew of public health, human rights and education programs around the globe, while also mounting opposition to hard-right conservatives in the U.S.

“Soros is an oligarch sponsoring the Democratic party, Hillary Clinton, hundreds of politicians all over the world,” the hackers posted on the website DCLeaks this Saturday when they released the documents.

“This website is designed to let everyone inside George Soros’ Open Society Foundation and related organisations,” they said. “These documents shed light on one of the most influential network operating worldwide.”

The hackers, who describe themselves as “American hacktivists who respect and appreciate freedom of speech, human rights and government of the people,” have been linked to the same group that exposed emails from Democratic Party leaders in the days before that party’s national convention last month. The group this weekend also posted messages from Republican state officials and national politicians, including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).

Cybersecurity firm ThreatConnect has called DCLeaks “another Russian-backed influence outlet” based on similarities with the previously identified Russian hackers, nicknamed Fancy Bear.

The documents released over the weekend are grouped into sections relating to the U.S., Europe, Asia, the World Bank and other topics.

The material offers a look behind the curtain of one of the nation’s preeminent nonprofit groups. Soros’s staunch focus on electoral processes around the globe has been a target of critics, and the wide net of activities is likely to inspire their outrage.

Included in the trove are drafts of fact sheets, calendars, memos, funding reports and similar materials, as one might expect from a major nonprofit group.

Some documents in particular are likely to stir ire on the right, where Soros is regarded as something of a nefarious mastermind trying to exert his influence across the globe.

A 2011 document, highlighted by The Daily Caller, details the foundations’ efforts to encourage criticism of hard-line opponents to Muslim radicalism, such as controversial personalities Frank Gaffney and Pamela Geller, who memorably organized a “Draw Muhammad” event last year.

Another document details the multiple organizations that have received millions in funding to challenge “Israeli laws and discriminatory practices against Israel’s Palestinian minority." Opponents claim those activities undermine Israel's democratic government and security.

Soros and the influence he wields among American liberal organizations have long been a target of scorn from conservatives, much as the billionaire Koch brothers are on the political left.

He has reportedly committed to giving more than $25 million to Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, and other Democrats, including a $6 million contribution to pro-Clinton super-PAC Priorities USA.

George Soros’ commitment to the video games worldhas led him to invest in one of the companies with the best position in the industry: Activision Blizzard.

Activision Blizzard is so powerful that the many recent controversies – even those that have suggestedthe company has been kowtowing to the Chinese Communist Party– have not stopped its growth in the market.

Especially by the subsidiary Blizzard, which has recentlyexperienced accusations of censorshipand the decline in the quality of their games.

Last year, a professional Hearthstone player known as Blitzchung had an altercation with the company as they withheld money from a competition he had won for showing his support for the Hong Kong protesters during an official Blizzard stream.

After the strong public backlash, the company reconsidered the sanctions imposed on the player.

Anons, I used to work on some devices for us in casinos which ionized the air. The reason was that people gambled more, and were generally happier when exposed to ionized air. One of the side benefits was that ionized air was capable of killing and reducing viruses and bacteria floating around in droplets. So far, I have not heard anyone bring this up in the news, or here, so this maybe the first time anyone is aware of the potential of this technology in this present crisis.

I found a 5 year old article, white paper I believe, which presents the details and potentials. At the time, I was under an NDA agreement which is now expired.

This could be a game changer if the right people look into it.

By the use of a modified ionizer device we describe effective prevention of airborne transmitted influenza A (strain Panama 99) virus infection between animals and inactivation of virus (>97%). Active ionizer prevented 100% (4/4) of guinea pigs from infection. Moreover, the device effectively captured airborne transmitted calicivirus, rotavirus and influenza virus, with recovery rates up to 21% after 40 min in a 19 m3 room. The ionizer generates negative ions, rendering airborne particles/aerosol droplets negatively charged and electrostatically attracts them to a positively charged collector plate. Trapped viruses are then identified by reverse transcription quantitative real-time PCR. The device enables unique possibilities for rapid and simple removal of virus from air and offers possibilities to simultaneously identify and prevent airborne transmission of viruses.

Hydroxychloroquine Has about 90 Percent Chance of Helping COVID-19 Patients

In a letter to Gov. Doug Ducey of Arizona, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) presents a frequently updated table of studies that report results of treating COVID-19 with the anti-malaria drugs chloroquine (CQ) and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ, Plaquenil®).

To date, the total number of reported patients treated with HCQ, with or without zinc and the widely used antibiotic azithromycin, is 2,333, writes AAPS, in observational data from China, France, South Korea, Algeria, and the U.S. Of these, 2,137 or 91.6 percent improved clinically. There were 63 deaths, all but 11 in a single retrospective report from the Veterans Administration where the patients were severely ill.

The antiviral properties of these drugs have been studied since 2003. Particularly when combined with zinc, they hinder viral entry into cells and inhibit replication. They may also prevent overreaction by the immune system, which causes the cytokine storm responsible for much of the damage in severe cases, explains AAPS. HCQ is often very helpful in treating autoimmune diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

Additional benefits shown in some studies, AAPS states, is to decrease the number of days when a patient is contagious, reduce the need for ventilators, and shorten the time to clinical recovery.

Peer-reviewed studies published from January through April 20, 2020, provide clear and convincing evidence that HCQ may be beneficial in COVID-19, especially when used early, states AAPS. Unfortunately, although it is perfectly legal to prescribe drugs for new indications not on the label, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recommended that CQ and HCQ should be used for COVID-19

only in hospitalized patients

in the setting of a clinical study if available. Most states are making it difficult for physicians to prescribe or pharmacists to dispense these medications.

As the letter to Gov. Ducey notes, “Many nations, including Turkey and India, are protecting medical workers and contacts of infected persons prophylactically. According to worldometers.info, deaths per million persons from COVID-19 as of Apr 27 are 167 in the U.S., 33 in Turkey, and 0.6 in India.”

After Morocco and Algeria began using HCQ, a trend break and

sharp reduction

in their COVID-19 case fatality rate occurred.

Vaccines and results of randomized double-blind controlled trials of new drugs are at best months away. But patients are dying now, while affordable, long-used drugs would be available except for government restrictions, AAPS states.

The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) has represented physicians of all specialties in all states since 1943. The AAPS motto is omnia pro aegroto, meaning everything for the patient.
