Felon Illegal Who Was Released by Chicago Arrested for Allegedly Abusing 3-Year-Old

I’m not certain most Americans are familiar with what sanctuary cities entail. There isn’t a set definition of what a sanctuary city even is, mind you, but one characteristic those cities generally share in common is that they don’t share citizenship information with federal law enforcement officials, including if an individual is arrested or jailed.

If the federal government knows a jailed individual is in the country illegally or is a non-citizen, it can sometimes issue a detainer, which requests that the jurisdiction hold the prisoner until it can take him or her into custody. Sanctuary cities generally ignore these and will release the individual back into the community.

Chicago’s sanctuary city policy includes all of that, which is part of why a 34-year-old Mexican national was able to allegedly molest a 3-year-old at a McDonald’s in the Windy City.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Assistant State’s Attorney James Murphy says Christopher Puente was able to lure the girl into a bathroom stall at the fast food restaurant on Feb. 17 by motioning to her while her father was helping her brother go to the bathroom in another stall.

The father heard the girl crying and, unable to pull the locked door of the stall open, pulled her out from under the door. He brought both children out to their mother and went back to the bathroom to confront Puente, who was still locked in the stall. After going back to check on his children, he went back again to find that Puente had escaped.

Police would arrest him the next day for trespassing in a parking garage and would recognize him from a still in the surveillance video from the McDonald’s.

Puente, Murphy said, had confessed to the crime.

“[Puente] said he was f—ed up and thinking dirty. … He said he was paranoid and looking around as he left the bathroom because he knew what he did was wrong,” Murphy said.

When the judge announced that Puente was being held without bail for predatory criminal sexual assault, the hearing-impaired Puente signed, “You don’t understand. This is my first time,” before his public defender stopped him. In a separate case, he also faces misdemeanor battery charges for inappropriately touching and then shoving a woman.

And yet, Chicago police refused to honor a detainer on him in June of 2019 when he was arrested on theft charges.

It’s not as if he didn’t have a lengthy criminal history, either.

According to The Daily Caller, he has convictions for forced entry burglary (2011, 2017) and forgery (2012). Those are felonies. He was deported in 2014 but tried to re-enter just five days later. He claimed American citizenship and presented authorities with a birth certificate. That ended with charges of falsely claiming U.S. citizenship.

When he was ordered to appear before an immigration judge, lo and behold, he didn’t show up. In 2017, a judge ordered his removal from the United States in absentia.

All of this information was available to Chicago officials. None of it could move them to deport Puente.

“How many more victims must there be before lawmakers realize that sanctuary policies do not protect the innocent?” Robert Guadian, director of the ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations Chicago field office, said in a statement.

“Puente should have been in ICE custody last year and removed to his home country. Instead, irresponsible lawmaking allowed him to walk free and prey on our most vulnerable.”

Trump Installs Lawyer Who Worked for Rep. Nunes and Don McGahn in Key NSC Role

President Donald Trump has continued to shuffle the deck at the National Security Council (NSC), where he installed a White House ally as senior director for intelligence. Attorney Michael Ellis started his new job on Monday and his immediate superior is White House lawyer John Eisenberg, according to Politico. The development was described as latest instance of the Trump administration putting loyalists in key roles. Ellis will be privy to extremely sensitive information. Indeed, the reassignment of the brothers Vindman now seems a distant memory, but Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman’s testimony about Ellis and Eisenberg is worth singling out here. Per Politico:

In short: a person involved in limiting access to President Trump’s July 25 call with Volodymyr Zelensky was promoted. This is the call that sparked a whistleblower complaint and got the dominoes toppling toward impeachment. The people who testified about that call were reassigned. What else do we know about Ellis? The White House included Ellis’s résumé when announcing his addition to the White House Counsel’s Office, when Don McGahn was running the show as of March 7, 2017: Some things to point out about this: 1) Ellis has intelligence experience; 2) he has experience working for Trump; 3) he was General Counsel for the House Intelligence Committee when it was chaired by Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.).

On that last point, the New York Times once identified Ellis as one of two White House officials who provided Nunes with “the intelligence reports that showed that President Trump and his associates were incidentally swept up in foreign surveillance by American spy agencies.” That was reported on March 30, 2017. Notably, these Nunes sources were described as “whistleblowers”:

Then-House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) repeated the “whistleblower” description during an interview.

“[Nunes] had told me that like a whistle blower-type person had given him some information that was new that spoke to the last administration and part of this investigation,” Ryan said. During his time at Dartmouth, Ellis was the editor-in-chief of The Dartmouth Review. After graduating, he actually appeared on Jeopardy! as a contestant. Several years ago, Ellis spoke about that experience during an interview with the publication he used to run. He also discussed how he came to advance Republican causes. Ellis said that when he was a college freshman, he volunteered for the George W. Bush–Dick Cheney campaign, ascended pretty quickly and ended up getting a job in the Bush White House after he graduated.

“My experience working on the Bush campaign in ’04 led to a position at the White House right after my graduation from Dartmouth. From March 2006 to February 2007, I worked in the Office of Strategic Initiatives, an office that actually no longer exists,” he said. “Obama shut it down once he took office, perhaps because he thought it was closely associated with Karl Rove. While I was working at the White House, I was involved in polling. It wasn’t the best year of President Bush’s administration, and especially since I was tracking public opinion, it was certainly a very humbling experience. But nonetheless, it was a great opportunity, especially for someone straight out of college, and I’m thankful that I was able to serve.”

Trump campaign sues Washington Post for libel over ‘false, defamatory statements’ about Russia ‘conspiracy’

The Trump campaign filed a libel lawsuit against the Washington Post for “millions of dollars” on Tuesday for publishing “false and defamatory statements” about an alleged conspiracy with Russia.

The complaint obtained by Fox News was filed in the U.S. District Court in Washington D.C. by attorneys David C. Tobin and Charles J. Harder. It points to a pair of Post articles published in June 2019 that included statements tying the Trump campaign to foreign campaign interference.

“The statements were and are 100 percent false and defamatory. The complaint alleges The Post was aware of the falsity at the time it published them, but did so for the intentional purpose of hurting the campaign, while misleading its own readers in the process,” Senior Legal Adviser to Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. Jenna Ellis said in a statement, adding the Post reported “a conspiracy” as a fact.

The complaint claims that Greg Sargent’s June 13 article, “Trump just invited another Russian attack. Mitch McConnell is making one more likely,” contained the defamatory statement that Special Counsel Robert Mueller concluded that Trump’s campaign “tried to conspire with” a “sweeping and systematic” attack by Russia during the 2016 election.

Musician uses algorithm to generate every possible melody to prevent copyright lawsuits

A musician and lawyer has used an algorithm to generate every possible melody in an attempt to end music copyright lawsuit claims.

Working with programmer Noah Rubin, Damien Riehl built software capable of generating 300,000 melodies each second, creating a catalogue of 68 billion 8-note melodies.

The melodies were then copyrighted and released into the public domain in the hope of stifling litigious musicians.

Citing famous examples of music copyright infringement lawsuits, Mr Riehl said his motivation was to demonstrate that the number of possible melodies is finite and therefore liable to patterns being repeated unintentionally.

This was the case when George Harrison was sued for allegedly stealing the melody of My Sweet Lord from He's So Fine by the Chiffons, according to Mr Riehl. The litigation lasted for nearly three decades, during which the former Beatle was found guilty of "subconscious plagiarism" by a US judge.

More recently, singer Sam Smith was forced to settle a copyright dispute with Tom Petty over the apparent likeness between his Grammy-winning song Stay With Me and Petty's hit I Won't Back Down.

Smith claimed he had never heard Petty's song, nor the three-note descending melody in the chorus that he was accused of stealing. The UK musician's representative at the time said the likeness was "a complete coincidence" but an out-of-court settlement saw Petty credited as co-writers of the track.

The melodies created by the algorithm were stored in MIDI form onto a small hard drive, which now contains "every melody that's ever existed and ever can exist".

"The copyright system is broken and it needs updating. Under copyright law, numbers are facts, and under copyright law, facts either have thin copyright, almost no copyright, or no copyright at all" Mr Riehl said in a recent TedX Talk explaining the project.

Got some vessels around San Clemente like LAGERHEAD that always lists destinations as "DEEPCORE' and then the other "unspecified" boat named HERO OF CANTON and then SSADE RUZ and CRIMSON TIDE. Global equity markets slid on Tuesday and the yield on 10-year U.S. Treasuries fell below 1% for the first time after the Federal Reserve cut interest rates in an emergency move to shield the U.S. economy from the impact of the fast-spreading coronavirus. The Fed’s emergency 50 bp rate cut brought 10-year yields to fresh record lows and a 0-handle was realized. To a great extent, we’ll argue the situation didn’t play out exactly as Powell might have envisioned. It’s doubtful that when JP left home this morning he thought ‘50 bp will really crush the stock market.’ So it goes. In two short weeks the Committee will be faced with a very difficult decision of either underwhelming investors’ expectations or quickly utilizing the limited rate-cutting potential afforded by the low outright yield environment.

Once the effective lower-bound is established, expanding the balance sheet will become topical and if risk sentiment isn’t restored by dropping rates, the next tool in the policy box will be expanding the balance sheet-this is where a new QE program will be introduced but it will take the form of another four letter named bailout program like TARP or TALF or ....

But lost in much of the hype around the rate-cut was the fact that term and overnight repo liquidity exploded to its highest since the crisis began last September-See Cap#5.

As the Fed determines the next installment of accommodation, the signaling power for responding to Tuesday’s stock selloff will undoubtedly be a consideration; after all, the takeaway from the first 50 bp was that another will quickly follow and there is information held at the Fed which investors can only utilize by following the lead of central bankers.

President Trump called for further rate cuts after the Federal Reserve slashed rates by half a percentage point

WASHINGTON/TOKY0 (Reuters) - The U.S. Federal Reserve cut interest rates on Tuesday in an emergency move to shield the world’s largest economy from the impact of the coronavirus, as Group of Seven finance officials pledged unspecified “appropriate” policy moves.

The Fed said it was cutting rates by a half percentage point to a target range of 1.00% to 1.25%. The decision was unanimous.

“The fundamentals of the U.S. economy remain strong. However, the coronavirus poses evolving risks to economic activity,” it said in a statement.

President Donald Trump said a half point cut was not enough.

The coronavirus, which emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan late last year, has spread around the world, with more new cases now appearing outside China than inside.

It has decimated international air traffic and hit sports events, trade exhibitions, concerts, book fairs, prayer meetings and other large gatherings worldwide.

There are almost 91,000 cases globally of which more than 80,000 are in China. Infections have appeared in 77 other countries and territories, with Ukraine the latest to report its first case.

China’s death toll was 2,943, with more than 125 fatalities elsewhere.

Finance ministers from the G7 group of rich countries were ready to take action, including fiscal measures where appropriate, Japanese Finance Minister Taro Aso said. Central banks would continue to support price stability and economic growth.

“We reaffirmed our commitment to adopt all appropriate policy steps to protect the economy from downside risks posed by the coronavirus, and that we stand ready to cooperate further on timely and effective measures,” Aso told reporters after a G7 call.

He offered no quick fix and said the desirable policy response would vary from country to country. Asked if all appropriate policy steps would include both monetary and fiscal measures, Aso said: “Yes, anything will be included.”

Trump said the Fed needed to ease rates further to “come into line with other countries/competitors,” Trump tweeted.

“We are not playing on a level field. Not fair to USA. It is finally time for the Federal Reserve to LEAD. More easing and cutting!” he tweeted.

AGGRESSIVE CONTAINMENT

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin applauded the “non-political” Fed move and told the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee that G7 finance ministers and central bank governors had agreed to “do everything possible” to limit economic harm.

He said the United States was not considering lowering tariffs on goods from China, after a bruising trade war with the world’s second-largest economy, but would look at all options.

Global stock markets seesawed in volatile trade and gold prices rose more than 2% after the Fed move. Shares in Europe rose to trade more than 2% higher on the day.

Global stocks suffered a rout last week on fears that the disruption to supply chains, factory output and global travel caused by the epidemic could deal a serious blow to a world economy trying to recover from the U.S.-China trade war.

About 3.4% of reported coronavirus patients had died, World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in Geneva. As a percentage, seasonal flu, which infects hundreds of thousands each year worldwide, kills far fewer.

But the coronavirus outbreak, also known as COVID-19, could be controlled, he said.

“To summarize, COVID-19 spreads less efficiently than flu, transmission does not appear to be driven by people who are not sick, it causes more severe illness than flu, there are not yet any vaccines or therapeutics, and it can be contained.”

China - where new coronavirus cases have been falling sharply and Tedros said the 129 in the last 24 hours was the lowest number since Jan. 20 - is increasingly concerned about the virus being brought back into the country by citizens returning from new hotspots elsewhere.

As Fox News points out, Biden has received a number of high-profile endorsements since his win in South Carolina on Saturday, with Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Mayor Pete Buttigieg both suspending their campaigns and announcing their support for the former Vice President.

Former Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) also announced his support for Biden’s campaign yesterday and tweeted, “I’m voting for Joe Biden because he can beat Donald Trump; because having him at the top of the ticket will help our down-ballot candidates, especially in Texas; & because he can bring people together to reach the ambitious goals we have for our country.”

Bankfag here - I don't work at this bank, but the large, primarily auto-lending bank I DO work for initiated a moratorium on work-related international travel last week on Thursday 2/27/20. Buttigieg endorsed Biden after reportedly speaking with Obama

Pete Buttigieg discussed his withdrawal from the 2020 presidential race with former President Barack Obama who advised the one-time mayor of South Bend, Ind., to use the leverage he amassed during the campaign, according to a report.

Obama didn’t specifically encourage Buttigieg to endorse Joe Biden, his vice president, but pointed out that he should be mindful of the significant influence he now wields, the New York Times reported on Monday.

Buttigieg, 38, endorsed Biden on Monday on the eve of the Super Tuesday elections, along with erstwhile Democratic presidential rivals Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke of Texas.

“When I ran for president we made it clear that the whole idea was about rallying the country together to defeat Donald Trump and to win the era for the values that we share,” Buttigieg said about Biden. “And that was always a goal that was much bigger than me becoming president and it is in the name of that very same goal that I am delighted to endorse and support Joe Biden for President.”

Buttigieg, the first openly gay man to run for president, also spoke to Biden after he dropped out and the candidate sought his support.

He told Biden that he wanted to sleep on the decision.

Obama also called Biden to congratulate him on his decisive win in South Carolina on Saturday, but didn’t offer an endorsement because the former president wants to remain on the sidelines, CNN reported. He has no plans to back Biden or any of the Democratic candidates as yet.

Man Charged with Distributing Fentanyl in Bristol

John H. Durham, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that ELKIE CRUMP, also known as “40,” 37, was arrested today on a federal criminal complaint charging him with possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, fentanyl.

As alleged in the complaint, Crump formerly resided on Davis Drive in Bristol and currently resides in West Hartford as a condition of his state parole. In December 2019, the DEA’s New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad and Bristol Police Department began an investigation into Crump after receiving information that Crump was distributing fentanyl in and around Bristol. On three occasions in January and February 2020, investigators conducted controlled purchases of fentanyl from Crump.

Crump was arrested this morning in West Hartford. It is alleged that he possessed a distribution quantity of fentanyl at the time of his arrest.

Crump appeared this afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert A. Richardson in Hartford and was ordered detained.

U.S. Attorney Durham stressed that a complaint is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. Charges are only allegations and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The DEA Tactical Diversion Squad includes officers from the Bristol, Hamden, Meriden, New Britain, West Haven and Watertown Police Departments.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Conor Reardon.

Identical Twin Brothers Sentenced To Decades In Prison For Multiple Child Sex Exploitation And Child Pornography Offenses

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Identical twin brothers who admitted to child sex exploitation and child pornography offenses were sentenced on Monday to 30 and 25 years in prison, respectively, to be followed by a lifetime term of supervised release, announced U.S. Attorney Nicholas A. Trutanich for the District of Nevada and Special Agent in Charge Aaron C. Rouse for the FBI’s Las Vegas Division.

Justin Anthony Fisher and Joshua Ray Fisher, both 35, of Las Vegas, pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of children, coercion and enticement, conspiracy to sexually exploit children, and distribution, possession, and receipt of child pornography. Additionally, Justin Fisher pleaded guilty to conspiracy to tamper with a victim. U.S. District Judge Andrew P. Gordon presided over Monday’s sentencing hearing. In addition to the terms of imprisonment and supervised release, the Fisher brothers agreed to pay full restitution to the victims of their crimes.

“The U.S. Attorney’s Office is honored to work alongside our law enforcement partners in bringing these two defendants to justice for their exploitation of underage victims,” said U.S. Attorney Trutanich. “The significant sentences that these defendants received appropriately reflect the devastating impact their crimes have had on their victims and our community.”

“Protecting the most vulnerable in our community is a high priority of the FBI,” said SAC Rouse. “I want to commend the members of our task force for their outstanding work in investigating these offenders and removing them from the community. The combined efforts of the task force exhibit the FBI’s commitment to our community and our partners.”

According to court documents:

Justin Fisher. From 2015 to 2016, Justin Fisher sexually exploited a 14-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl. He communicated with the 14-year-old girl over Kik, an instant messaging application, and sent her text messages about sexual topics. He lied to the underage victim about his age, convinced her that they were in a romantic relationship, and directed the victim to take nude photos of herself to send to him. In August 2016, Justin Fisher had sex with the victim and produced pornographic images of their sexual encounters. Later, he conspired to and attempted to stop the victim from cooperating with law enforcement. Justin Fisher also admitted to having sex with a 15-year-old girl and producing pornographic bondage photos of her. Justin Fisher shared the sexually explicit images of both underage victims with his brother, Joshua Fisher, and others over on the internet. Justin Fisher used the alias “Sol Castle” on Kik when targeting underage girls.

Joshua Fisher. Joshua Fisher admitted to sexually exploiting a 14-year-old girl. The abuse began when the victim was 11 years old. Joshua Fisher admitted that he instructed her on how to pose during live chats so that he could take screenshots of her engaging in sexually explicit conduct. Joshua Fisher shared these images with his brother, Justin Fisher. When law enforcement arrested Justin Fisher, Joshua Fisher directed the underage victim to destroy evidence implicating him, and cancelled a trip to have sex with her. Joshua Fisher used the alias “Ray” when targeting underage girls.

Further, while in custody pending trial, the brothers conspired to have family members destroy evidence of their child sex exploitation. A concerned citizen’s call allowed law enforcement to retrieve additional electronic devices, which revealed at least 50 additional unidentified victims.

The case is the product of a joint investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children/Child Exploitation Task Force, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Elham Roohani and Christopher Burton prosecuted the case.

O.C. Man Arrested on Charges of Traveling Out of State to Engage in Illicit Sexual Acts with Minors and Producing Child Pornography

SANTA ANA, California – An Orange County man surrendered to federal law enforcement today to face criminal charges that he traveled out of state to engage in illicit sexual conduct and produce child pornography, including with one victim who was 6 years old.

Daniel Seibert, 28, of Lake Forest, was taken into custody this morning by special agents with Homeland Security Investigations. He is expected to make his initial appearance tomorrow afternoon in United States District Court in Santa Ana.

Seibert has agreed to plead guilty to a three-count information charging him with production of child pornography, travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, and use of a facility of interstate commerce to induce a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity.

According to his plea agreement, between March 29, 2019 and April 2, 2019, Seibert traveled from California to Michigan to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a victim who was 6 years old. The victim’s mother attempted to render the victim unconscious by using over-the-counter drugs before having Seibert engage in sex acts with the victim, according to court documents. Images later recovered during a search depicted his abuse of the victim. The victim’s mother is facing multiple child sexual abuse charges in Oregon state court.

Seibert also admitted to traveling to Utah in December 2018 and again in May 2019 to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a 14-year-old victim that he had met on the Internet.

Law enforcement also found more than 180 images and 19 videos of child exploitation images found during the November 2019 search of his residence.

Once Seibert pleads guilty to the three child exploitation charges, he will face a statutory maximum sentence of 75 years in federal prison.

This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations.

This matter is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Daniel H. Ahn and Jake D. Nare of the Santa Ana Branch Office.

The Supreme Court appeared divided Tuesday over the limits of a unique aspect of presidential power, and the extent so-called "independent" federal agencies have from executive oversight.At issue is whether the president has the authority to fire the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, an agency created by Congress in the wake of the 2008 recession and mortgage crisis.

A ruling from the high court could affect the authority of dozens of other federal agencies with quasi-independent status, like the Federal Reserve and the Social Security Administration.

The a Trump Admin has asked the court in the CFPB case to grant him full executive power over all Executive agencies (tests what the constitution says).

‘Out on a Limb’: Erdogan ‘Trapped Between Major Powers Tired of His Game’

Amid his attempts to salvage a collapsing situation in Syria’s Idlib Governorate, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has few friends to turn to, having alienated every major power by playing them against one another for so long, an expert tells Sputnik.

In northern Syria in the past few weeks, a shooting war has broken out between Turkish forces in support of their proxies occupying Idlib and the Russian forces fighting alongside the Syrian Arab Army to retake the province for Damascus. Erodgan has tried and failed to invoke Article 5 of the NATO charter, which would have brought his European and American allies into the war on Ankara’s side, and on Thursday, he is traveling to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin directly.

Tom Luongo, independent politics, culture and market analyst at Gold Goats 'n Guns, told Radio Sputnik’s Political Misfits Tuesday the Moscow summit would be “the tale of the tape, as it were,” spelling out in no uncertain terms just how much - or how little - capability Erdogan has in this fight.

“I firmly believe that from the moment the Syrian operation began that Erdogan was promised most of Idlib and a 30-mile buffer zone between Turkey’s southern borders and Syria’s northern borders … in order to effectively break up the two Kurdish cantons, two Kurdish enclaves in Syria. That’s what Erdogan wants, and he also wants most of Idlib,” Luongo said.

“I think he’s been very - well, in his mind - skillfully managing both the United States and Russia to weasel them to get what he wants, playing both sides against each other at strategic times. He flip-flops constantly,” Luongo noted. “One week he’s hugging Putin for saving his life, and the next week he’s asking [US President Donald] Trump for Patriot missile batteries ... It goes back and forth, but Idlib has been kind of the thing that he’s bargained for in all of his negotiations with Putin.”

Luongo said that when Erdogan won the establishment of the de-escalation zone in September 2018 after the invasion of Idlib by Turkish forces earlier that year, that he firmly believed he had established a new southern border of Turkey by doing so.

“I think Erdogan has overplayed his hand. I think he’s now into desperation mode. Remember two or three years ago, certainly right after the [2016] coup attempt, his popularity was still very strong. But he’s lost two major regional elections in Turkey in the last 12 months - one in Istanbul and one in Ankara - and the latest poll that I’ve seen has his approval rating down in the low 40s. Salt that to taste, it’s one poll, but it’s been trending in that direction for a long time now.”

“Unemployment is rising again. He’s demanding the central bank get interest rates down into single digits while inflation is beginning to rise. None of this has anything to do with any kind of hybrid war pressure being placed on the lira because he’s buying S-400s from the Russians, like in 2018. He’s got real fiscal problems now. He’s got $168 billion in Turkish corporate debt, which has to be rolled over in the next 12 months, and they don’t have the money. And now he’s ticked off everyone who helped him get through the last funding crisis in 2018, which stabilized the lira,” Luongo said.

“So, he’s going to Moscow on Thursday to try and cut a deal with Putin to get some of Syria and say ‘Well, just give me something,’ so he can save face at home and stay in power,” he noted. “I don’t think Putin’s going to give him anything, because ultimately, at the end of the day, Putin doesn’t need Erdogan. He needs Turkey, but he doesn’t need him. I think at this point, everybody’s tired of this guy constantly playing everybody against each other, and he finds himself trapped between major powers who are tired of his game. I don’t think it’s going to work for him here.”

“I’m becoming convinced that, within a year, he’s going to be out of power, and this time no one’s going to save him,” Loungo told hosts Bob Schlehuber and Jamarl Thomas. “He’s out on a limb.”

BREAKING: Plane crash in Georgia with multiple fatalities was headed to Tuscaloosa

WATKINSVILLE, Ga. (WBMA) — Police said multiple people are dead after a plane crashed in Oconee County, just east of Atlanta, on Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies said the Piper PA-46 aircraft crashed in the area of Maxey and Elder roads around 3:45 p.m.

Investigators said the plane was traveling from Columbia Metropolitan Airport in South Carolina to the Tuscaloosa National Airport when it went down about 10 miles southwest of Athens.

The FAA and NTSB have been called in to investigate.

Multiple people were killed Tuesday afternoon when a plane crashed near Athens, according to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.

Air traffic controllers lost contact with the Piper PA-46, which crashed at about 4:35 p.m. in the Eastville community, about 10 miles southwest of Athens, the FAA told AJC.com.

The plane was flying from the Columbia Metropolitan Airport in South Carolina to the Tuscaloosa National Airport in Alabama at the time of the crash.

These must be done by Constitutional amendment and ratified by the states. Congress does not have the Constitutional power to assume or strip Executive powers.

The people who live in the areas effected like this are the same people who can't afford to lose what little they have. For some reason. these destructive storms don't hit the affluent areas as much, They destroy the rural areas hosting mostly mobile homes. These people that have so little are also the same people who are first to give. They pull together and share what little they have to help others.

I have lived in some of the wealthiest areas of California and NY. People throw away brand new items and fill up over burdened landfills because it is cheaper to do that than get the items to a place that can benefit from the items.

When families lose EVERYTHING, they don't really think about how cold they are and wish they had a blanket. They hurt for the family photos and heirlooms of sentimental value. They still need the basics replaced and cannot afford it.

There are good people of California and West of us that would gladly send their items but it is too expensive.

My plea to you Sir, if you declare a National emergency, could you please include the Post Office fees in Americans coming together to help other Americans and allow them to ship for free via USPS to specified locations?

I live here now and know both sides.

NEW: Mike Bloomberg's campaign manager says Bloomberg is "absolutely not" dropping out of the presidential race — but said the campaign would "make an assessment" after Super Tuesday.

Bloomberg Campaign Manager Kevin Sheekey shot down speculation that his candidate will exit the race today, but contradicted Mike Bloomberg’s comments earlier today that he was willing to wage a convention fight for the nomination.

“Absolutely not,” Sheekey told reporters about reports that Bloomberg was being advised to exit the race tonight. He said the campaign would assess where it stands after Super Tuesday. “I think you make an assessment in any campaign like this after every time that there’s a vote. We have not had a vote yet so we have not had to assess.”

Sheekey directly contradicted Bloomberg’s statement in Miami today that his only path to the nomination was a contested convention—a fight he was willing to wage. “I don’t happen to think Democrats will have a contested convention,” Sheekey said, “I heard him, and that may be true, it may not.”

He added: “As of right now we’re committed to stay in [until the convention] but we’ll see what happens today.”

Sheekey notably praised former Vice President Joe Biden – noting he donated to his campaign before Bloomberg entered the race – and said one of the two candidates will be the nominee. “I know the vice president personally, I find him to be one of the most decent public servants I’ve ever met,” he said, “I expect one of them to be the nominee and I expect the other to be supporting that person.”

Sheekey also rejected the characterization of Bloomberg as a spoiler against Biden on the ballot who threatened to siphon votes from Biden and allow Bernie Sanders to walk away with more delegates. “Look, I think Mike Bloomberg is either the candidate for the party, or the single most important person helping that candidate defeat Donald Trump,” he said, “To me that’s the opposite of a spoiler.”

Sheekey stressed Bloomberg’s commitment to continuing to spend resources in 2020 to defeat Trump, even if Sanders wins the nomination. “They agree on something that’s really important, which is this president has to be removed from office.”

He added: “We will find out how well [Bloomberg] does tonight. And we’ll find out whether Mike Bloomberg is on his way to becoming the candidate, or we will find out that Mike Bloomberg is going to be the most important person to whomever that candidate will be.”

Hate to ask and I loathe self-nomming, but I found this military ship/aircraft callsign list and it looks like it might help out if the Planefags/Boatfags could see it in Notables, so it will roll on instead of getting lost in the shuffle.

For context, the list includes homebases, so that might also help narrow down who's using the callsign when multiple units use it (or by aircraft type, which also is indicated in the list)

there is a section in the Federal Reserve Act, Section 10.2, that says the president can remove the Fed Chair for cause, not policy views. It's obscure and does not expressly say what reasons it can be used for.

This law was put into place in the 1940s after President Roosevelt had fired a board member of the Federal Trade Commission for not sharing the same public policy views. Supreme Court Allows States to Prosecute Illegal Aliens for Identity Theft

The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the power of states to pursue illegal aliens for identity theft, ruling against three men who used someone else’s social security number to gain employment.

In the decision, the justice ruled 5-4 that Kansas can rely on false information used by illegal aliens in their tax withholding forms—W4 and K4—to prosecute them for identity theft even if they used the same false information on their I-9 work authorization forms. The I-9 form is used by employers to attest that an employee is authorized to work.

The Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) makes it a federal crime for an employee to provide false information on the I-9 but states that information on the form “may not be used for purposes other than for enforcement of this act.”

In the case at hand, cited as Kansas v. Garcia, the three men—Ramiro Garcia, Donaldo Morales, and Guadalupe Ochoa-Lara—who were not authorized to work in the United States, used misappropriated social security numbers (SSN) to secure employment in Kansas. They used these misappropriated SSNs on their I-9 forms as well as their tax withholding forms.

The three men were tried and convicted under Kansas criminal law for fraudulently using another person’s SSNs on their tax withholding forms upon obtaining employment. The Kansas Court of Appeals affirmed the lower court’s decision upon appeal, but a divided Kansas Supreme Court reversed the decision, ruling that the IRCA preempts the state from applying laws against fraud, forgeries, and identity theft because the information used in the prosecution was “contained in” the men’s I-9 forms.

The state’s top court also added that “[t]he fact that this information was included in the W–4 and K–4 did not alter the fact that it was also part of the I–9.” Kansas then appealed the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.

And since I always like to look at the faces of the people who would hurt kids, I found a photo of the twin pedos. This picture was posted on their crowdfunding website.

The real reason Chris Matthews was fired from MSNBC-FAKE-FUCKING-NEWS

Chris Matthews didn’t get fired for being a sex monster. He got fired for doing his job.

And what was that job? To represent the non-crazy, “No Kool-Aid for me, thanks” Left on television, while being entertaining and pointed and wacky. Read the GQ piece published Friday that apparently got Matthews fired and you’ll note that the writer, Laura Bassett, had two completely unrelated categories of complaint that she artfully weaved together to create an indictment of Matthews as a sexist.

One complaint was that Matthews would compliment women’s looks. He said of Sarah Palin that there was “something electric” and “very attractive” about her. He told Erin Burnett, “You’re a knockout.” All true. He made a couple of mild compliments to Bassett: “Why haven’t I fallen in love with you yet?” True, men shouldn’t talk this way around the office, and few guys under 50 have failed to get the message that this kind of thing makes (some) women uncomfortable. But Matthews is 70. Old guys flirt with young women as a way of telling themselves they’re still in the game. Young women used to be more forgiving, to recognize the pathos underlying the impulse and shrug it off. Now they exaggerate their emotional reaction, pretend that they’re “shaken” or “couldn’t breathe.” Bassett writes that a couple of flirty comments from Matthews “undermined my ability to do my job well.” That’s hard to believe.

Why do these women pretend to be undone by a stray compliment? There’s always some ulterior motive. Bassett is utterly blatant about her real motive: She wanted Matthews fired for the way he interviewed Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren. She thinks Matthews damaged her political favorites, thinking (probably correctly) that when a prominent Democrat criticizes such candidates, he signals other moderate Democrats and centrists that it’s okay to vote for someone else.

Matthews joked that Clinton is “witchy” and a “she-devil” and struck a skeptical tone when quizzing Warren about claims she made in debate against Mike Bloomberg. All of this is very much part of his job. Matthews tries to be pointed, provocative, a bit unpredictable and funny. Like drive-time radio talkers and other television pundits, he realizes that the minute you stop being colorful, you’re dead. Warren and Clinton are hardly the only pols to whom he has shown antagonism.

So Matthews laid it on a bit thick at times. Comparing Bernie Sanders to the Nazis overrunning France? Ridiculous. Never compare anyone who hasn’t murdered at least a million people to Hitler. Still, hysterical analogies are exactly what drives viewership of “Hardball” and all the TV and radio shows like it. We tune in to these guys hoping they’ll say something completely bonkers.

For two years Maddow built her MSNBC show around an actual conspiracy theory, that Trump was engaged in some kind of illegal collusion with Vladimir Putin, and issued one wild speculation after another: that there was a “continuing operation” involving Putin pulling strings here, that Putin was in a position to blackmail Trump into recalling troops from the Russian border, that a Trump-directed missile attack could have been ordered by Putin, that the Russians might be in a position to shut down our power during cold weather.

Conclusion: Saying crazy stuff doesn’t get you fired from MSNBC. It’s only saying stuff that annoys the Left that gets you fired from MSNBC. But that was what was important about Matthews — he’s an impeccably credentialed Democrat (Jimmy Carter speechwriter, aide to Tip O’Neill, guy who “felt this thrill going up my leg” when he heard Barack Obama speak) who doesn’t always stick to the party line.

It’s possible Matthews did worse things than we know about so far, but as of today, it looks like he’s been unfairly thrown into the same cultural ditch with actual predators like Harvey Weinstein. He has been forever smeared as a sex abuser when what really cost him his job was being rude to Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren.

Lindsey Graham has started interviewing witnesses in FISA abuse investigation

Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham has started deposing witnesses in his committee’s investigation into abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act during the 2016 election.

The South Carolina Republican told reporters on Tuesday that he had begun conducting closed-door depositions but did not elaborate on the state of the investigation, according to the Hill. Graham requested closed-door interviews with 17 Department of Justice and FBI officials last month.

In a Feb. 12 interview with CBS News, Graham said that depositions would begin sometime in late February or early March and said that the proceedings could last for weeks.

Graham has led the push to investigate current and former DOJ and FBI officials for abuses uncovered by DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz in a December report. Horowitz’s inquiry about the Justice Department’s 2016 investigation into the Trump campaign discovered at least 17 "significant errors and omissions" in FISA applications submitted by DOJ and FBI officials.

The Justice Department opened an investigation into then-Trump campaign adviser Carter Page over suspected ties to Russian agents and an alleged plot to coordinate with Russia to influence the 2016 election. Horowitz found that the FBI investigators working on the case misled Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judges to get approval for at least two of the four FISA applications submitted to continue the investigation into Page.

Abstract

Following the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS‐CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS‐CoV), another highly pathogenic coronavirus named SARS‐CoV‐2 (previously known as 2019‐nCoV) emerged in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and rapidly spreads around the world. This virus shares highly homological sequence with SARS‐CoV, and causes acute, highly lethal pneumonia (COVID‐19) with clinical symptoms similar to those reported for SARS‐CoV and MERS‐CoV. The most characteristic symptom of COVID‐19 patients is respiratory distress, and most of the patients admitted to the intensive care could not breathe spontaneously. Additionally, some COVID‐19 patients also showed neurologic signs such as headache, nausea and vomiting. Increasing evidence shows that coronavriruses are not always confined to the respiratory tract and that they may also invade the central nervous system inducing neurological diseases. The infection of SARS‐CoV has been reported in the brains from both patients and experimental animals, where the brainstem was heavily infected. Furthermore, some coronaviruses have been demonstrated able to spread via a synapse‐connected route to the medullary cardiorespiratory center from the mechano‐ and chemoreceptors in the lung and lower respiratory airways. In light of the high similarity between SARS‐CoV and SARS‐CoV2, it is quite likely that the potential invasion of SARS‐CoV2 is partially responsible for the acute respiratory failure of COVID‐19 patients. Awareness of this will have important guiding significance for the prevention and treatment of the SARS‐CoV‐2‐induced respiratory failure. (229 words)

The Manhattan lawyer hospitalized with coronavirus is in “severe condition,” the city Health Department said Tuesday evening.

The lawyer, identified by sources as Lawrence Garbuz, 50, runs a boutique law firm with his wife that also employs one of their four kids as a paralegal, according to information posted online.

The seven-lawyer practice, Lewis & Garbuz, is located across the street from Grand Central Terminal and specializes in matters including personal planning and wealth management, estate litigation, guardianships and elder law, its website says.

Garbuz and his wife, also 50, both graduated from New York University and earned law degrees from Yeshiva University’s Cardozo School of Law before marrying in 1995, according to a wedding announcement published in the New York Times.

Their firm, founded in 2001, is located across 42nd Street from Grand Central Terminal, and Garbuz reportedly commuted there on the Metro-North Railroad from their family home in New Rochelle.

A client, New Jersey resident Jason Fries, told The Post, “I’m worried,” even though he hasn’t been in “physical contact” with Garbuz “in what they say is the exposure time” for coronavirus.

“It’s distressing when one finds out that there are people we know who have come down with it,” said Fries, 55.

“It’s not an abstract anymore.”

Garbuz was initially hospitalized Friday at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, but was transferred on Monday to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center in Upper Manhattan when his condition worsened.

He’s being treated in the Intensive Care Unit, the hospital said.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak suggested that he and his wife could have contracted coronavirus nearly two months ago — and quipped that they both may have even been “patient zero” in the US.

The 69-year-old millionaire tech entrepreneur told USA Today that he and Janet Wozniak came down with “the worst flu of our lives” after visiting Southeast Asia in January.

“Checking out Janet’s bad cough,” Wozniak tweeted Monday. “Started Jan. 4. We had just returned from China and may have both been patient zero in U.S.”

Both had sore throats and coughs upon their return to the US, Wozniak told the paper. He canned some of his planned appearances in Las Vegas after the trip and lost his voice, he said.

“We canceled everything else to head home, but I couldn’t move out of bed for two days,” he added. “I did tell everyone that I was sick and stayed away from almost all in Vegas.”

Janet was coughing up blood — and went to the hospital, where doctors said that the illness “was no American flu,” he added.

“We have not been able to get tested [for coronavirus] in this country,” he said. “Had our return from Southeast Asia been today, we’d certainly have been tested and quarantined, with the symptoms we had. But it wasn’t treated as important back then.”

He said he reached out to the CDC, but received a form letter reminding the couple to wash their hands.

“There was no test for this COVID-19 then,” he told the paper. “Eventually, they did have a test, but you could only get it done through the CDC and they wouldn’t test people like myself and Janet, who were well past symptoms.”

Janet later confirmed to USA Today that she had been diagnosed with a sinus infection.

Her husband called his “patient zero” reference “kind of a joke,” adding that the couple’s gastrointestinal symptoms were not characteristic of coronavirus.

“I think that our GI symptoms better fit some other flu, because you rarely hear of that with COVID-19,” he said. “But there’s no way to find out until we can get a test, and now it’s two months later, and a month past symptoms.”

Symptoms of the illness, which appear two to 14 days after exposure, include a cough, fever and shortness of breath, according to the CDC.

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Twelve of 30 firefighters and police officers in Kirkland who have been quarantined after potential or direct exposure to the COVID-19 virus at the city's LifeCare facility are now showing "flu-like" symptoms, according to city of Kirkland officials.

The 30 all had been quarantined after they had responded to calls at the LifeCare Facility in the days before and during an outbreak of COVID-19 that was discovered at the center. At least five patients connected to the center have died and more remain sickened.

One firefighter has been released from quarantine after completing their 14-day period while 26 firefighters and three police officers remain.

"Twelve first responders are showing flu-like symptoms, and 19 have confirmed direct exposure," city officials said in a press release. "Most are in isolation or quarantine at home."

On March 3, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) concluded its large-scale security operation in the northern Daraa countryside with a new reconciliation agreement.

The operation, which targeted the town of al-Sanamayn, was launched two days ago. The town was under the de-facto control of local radical militants, who carried out a series of attacks on SAA checkpoints and positions in northern Daraa during the last year.

Army troops stormed al-Sanamayn in the first day of the operation. However, some militants took cover in buildings within the town’s center.

A reconciliation agreement was reached within 24 hours. The vast majority of militants accepted the agreement and began handing over their weapons to Syrian authorities. However, some militants rejected the agreement and opted to withdraw to Turkish-occupied areas in northern Syria.

President Assad Receives Libyan Delegation

Libyan Embassy in Damascus reopened

The Libyan Embassy in Damascus was reopened on Tuesday, signaling the return of diplomatic representation between the two brotherly countries.

The reopening ceremony was attended by a Libyan delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister Abdul-Rahman al-Ahiresh and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Abdul-Hadi al-Hawaij.

Bailey Whitfield Diffie, born June 5, 1944, was always an independent sort. As one early friend remarked, “The kid had an alternative lifestyle at age five.” Diffie didn’t read until he was 10 years old. There was no question of disability, he simply preferred that his parents read to him, which seemingly they did, quite patiently. Finally, in the fifth grade, Diffie spontaneously worked his way through a tome called The Space Cat, and immediately progressed to the Oz books.

Later that year his teacher at P.S. 178 — “Her name was Mary Collins and if she is still alive I’d like to find her,” Diffie would say decades later — spent an afternoon explaining something that would stick with him for a very long time: the basics of cryptography.

Diffie found cryptography a delightfully conspiratorial means of expression. Its users collaborate to keep secrets in a world of prying eyes. A sender attempts this by transforming a private message to an altered state, a sort of mystery language: encryption. Once the message is transformed into a cacophonous babble, potential eavesdroppers are foiled. Only those in possession of the rules of transformation can restore the disorder back to the harmony of the message as it was first inscribed: decryption. Those who don’t have that knowledge and try to decrypt messages without the secret “keys” are practicing “cryptanalysis.”

Although Diffie performed competently in school, he never did apply himself. Only stratospheric scores on standardized tests enabled him to enter the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1961 to study mathematics. He took up computer programming — at first, Diffie now says, to get out of the draft. Diffie accepted a job at the Mitre Corporation, which, as a defense contractor, could shelter its young employees from military service.

Diffie’s team did not have to work at the Mitre office, but in 1966, became a resident guest of Marvin Minsky in the MIT artificial intelligence lab. At the AI lab, information was assumed to be accessible as the air itself. There were no software locks on the operating system written by the MIT wizards.

Germany: AfD leader injured in arson attack

AfD leader Tino Chrupalla was injured during an arson attack on his car on Monday night. Enemies of Chrupalla set fire to his Volkswagen Caddy that was parked on his property in Görlitz, a town in eastern Germany not far from the Polish border.

When attempting to put the fire out, the AfD leader – who last November was nominated by Alexander Gauland to replace him as co-chairman – inhaled toxic fumes and had to be treated at the hospital for several hours for smoke poisoning, German weekly newspaper Junge Freiheit reports.

“Despite the sharpness of the political debate, it is a direct attack on my family. That exceeds all conceivable limits. This escalation must stop,” Chrupalla told German media.

When asked how was doing following the brazen attack, he replied: “Badly.”

Police spokeswoman Katharina Korch said that state police have started to investigate the arson attack as a possible “politically motivated act”.

Alexander Dierks, the Secretary General of the Saxony CDU, condemned the attack on Twitter, saying: “Violence is never a means of political debate.”

He added there was never an excuse for such attacks.

In Germany, politicians from the Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) party are more frequently violently attacked than politicians from any other party.

Between October and December of 2019, 112 attacks on offices or facilities of parties represented in German parliament were recorded by the Federal Government. Of those 112 attacks, more than half (62) of the attacks were carried out against the AfD. According to the criminal police service, 58 of the attacks were motivated by leftists.

Furthermore, 87 of the 202 attacks on party representatives or members of a political party in Germany were carried out against the AfD, with 78 crimes seen as politically motivated by the police, according to the Federal Government’s figures.

Last December, Voice of Europe reported of left-wing extremists in Heilbronn, Germany threatening to murder Christina Baum, an AfD MP.

The month before that, Voice of Europe reported on numerous death threats that the son of an AfD politician in Berlin had received from three of his classmates in Berlin-Biesdorf.

Last August, an AfD party official in Krefeld, Germany had his car set ablaze by hooded assailants.

GOP Rep. Devin Nunes hits Washington Post with $250M lawsuit for publishing 'falsehoods' about him

'…severely impugns [Nunes's] integrity and prejudices him'

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, filed a massive $250 million defamation lawsuit on Monday against the Washington Post and intelligence reporter Shane Harris.

Last month, the Post claimed Nunes went to the White House to personally tell President Donald Trump about an intelligence briefing given to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) by top intel official Shelby Pierson regarding Russia's efforts to interfere in the 2020 presidential election.

The newspaper also claimed that Trump was angry at acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire because he learned about the meeting through Nunes.

But according to Nunes, the Post's claims are "falsehoods." In fact, the lawsuit claims it was impossible for Nunes to have met with Trump to discuss the classified briefing when the Post claimed the meeting happened because Nunes was in Oklahoma at the time.

The lawsuit states:

Devin Nunes never told the President or anyone else that Shelby Pierson had given an exclusive briefing to Schiff.

Devin Nunes did not meet or speak with the President on February 13, 2020 – the day of the "classified hearing" - or on February 14, 2020, and never conveyed to him any indication that Schiff was given an exclusive assessment of Russian actions.

In fact, WaPo and Harris knew that Devin Nunes was in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on February 14, 2020 for a breakfast hosted by the Republican Party of Tulsa County .

The lawsuit adds, "Devin Nunes did not say or do anything to 'ruin' Maguire's chances of becoming the permanent intelligence chief Maguire's term was already due to expire pursuant to Federal Law on March 11, 2020."

The lawsuit claims the "WaPo hit piece" imputes to Nunes "criminal conduct" and "dishonesty, deceit, sharp and unethical practices, and independently actionable tortious acts, all of which severely impugns [Nunes's] integrity and prejudices him in the performance of his duties as a United States Congressman."

The lawsuit goes on to accuse the Post of publishing the story "in concert with House Democrats" in order to "impugn" Nunes' "reputation and undermine his relationship with the President."

The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Richmond and seeks a total of $250,350,000 in damages, plus prejudgement interest. Nunes is requesting a jury trial.

In response, the Post said it will defend its reporter and story.

"The Post stands behind the reporting of Shane Harris and his colleagues We will vigorously defend our work against the claims made in Rep. Nunes's lawsuit," Kris Coratti Kelly, the newspaper's VP of communications, told the Washington Examiner.

Nunes promised the lawsuit less than two weeks ago. In December, he also sued CNN for $435 million over what he characterized as a "demonstrably false hit piece."

Just 3 Out Of 260 Harvard Faculty Members Plan To Vote Trump: Survey

Out of 260 Harvard Arts and Sciences faculty member respondents, only three faculty members said they plan to vote for President Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election, a survey of faculty shows.

A survey conducted by the Harvard Crimson found that 44% of faculty surveyed said they would vote for former Harvard Law School professor Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

Only 20% of the faculty surveyed said they would vote for 2020 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, and only three out of 260 respondents said the would vote for Trump.

The poll also found that the majority of Harvard faculty identify as either very liberal or liberal: 38.4% of those surveyed identified as very liberal, 41.3% identified as liberal, 18.9% identified as moderate, and a mere 1.46% identified as conservative.

The survey closed before the Feb. 28 South Carolina primary, which former vice president Joe Biden won.

The Crimson’s polling comes as multiple Democratic candidates drop out of the presidential race and endorse Biden ahead of Super Tuesday. Former 2020 presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke also endorsed the former vice president Monday.

The paper conducted the poll in late February through a 74 question anonymous survey distributed to more than 1,000 members of Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences between Feb. 20 and Feb. 27.

Woman ‘Rushed’ Into Gender Reassignment as a Teen Suing NHS

A woman given gender reassignment therapy as a teen is suing the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust for having “rushed” her into the treatment.

“I wanted to go onto the medical pathway as soon as possible, I was very eager and I was very reluctant about speaking to anyone who would possibly get in the way of that,” Keira Bell explained to Sky News.

But after being “rushed” into gender reassignment after “roughly three” short sessions with “no real investigation” into any other underlying mental health problems, she came to realise she was not a boy “born in the wrong body” after all, and that her gender identity crisis had only been a “coping mechanism” for deeper issues.

“I just realised that it hadn’t worked after a few years,” she recalled.

“I just went into like a menopause-like state and everything just kind of shut down.

“I felt drained and tired and had nothing but negative effects from it really, I didn’t have a good experience with it at all.

“I think the depression kicked in a bit more because I was without any hormones in my body, especially at such a young age when it’s supposed to be at such a peak.

“It’s very detrimental to someone and the psychological and the brain effects I think are completely understudied as well,” she said.

The Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, as the National Health Service’s main hub for “treating” people with gender dysphoria, has become somewhat infamous in recent years, with the number of patients it receives rising from a few dozens to more than 2,000 over the last ten years.

Research by Sky News suggerts that at least 35 psychologists have resigned from the service over a three-year period, fearing “young people are being over-diagnosed and then over-medicalised”.

“We are extremely concerned about the consequences for young people… For those of us who previously worked in the service, we fear that we have had front row seats to a medical scandal,” said one source.

The concerned psychologists said professionals feel powerless to resist putting children on the so-called medical pathway for treatment, including powerful hormones, for fear of being branded “transphobic”.

Sky News insists, however, that “most gender reassignment stories are positive.”

Report Reveals Role Huawei Had In Transporting US Tech To Iran

Huawei produced records ten years ago that appear to show the Chinese company was directly involved in sending U.S. technology parts to Iranian phone companies, Reuters reported Monday. Reuters’ report cites memos that could give the government more leverage in its legal pursuit of the telecommunications giant. The report comes on the same day The Wall Street Journal reported that Huawei is working to hire public relations experts with ties to the Trump administration.

Huawei used Hewlett-Packard Co as an intermediary to deliver parts to Iran’s largest mobile-phone operator, Reuters reported, citing documents dated December 2010. Another memo two months later reportedly states: “Currently the equipment is delivered to Tehran, and waiting for the custom clearance.” “Our contract terms prohibited the sale of these products to Iran, and required that our partners comply with all applicable export laws and regulations,” a spokesman for HP Enterprise told Reuters. “This remains true today.”

President Donald Trump is fighting a two-pronged battle against Huawei: His administration is trying to convince allies to steer clear of the Chinese company’s products, while at the same time the Department of Justice is making the case that the company’s chief financial officer violated Iranian sanctions. The DOJ leveled a 13-count indictment in January 2019 against Huawei and its CFO, Meng Wanzhou, accusing China’s tech behemoth of bank fraud, wire fraud, and violating U.S. sanctions on Iran. Huawei was also charged with conspiring to obstruct justice related to the DOJ’s investigation. The documents in the Monday Reuters report are not cited in the criminal case. The indictment accuses the company of using Iranian subsidiary Skycom Tech to obtain the prohibited products.

“Huawei could thus attempt to claim ignorance with respect to any illegal act committed by Skycom on behalf of Huawei, including violations of” sanctions, according to the indictment. Skycom, which was registered in Hong Kong, is named as a defendant. Records show it was decommissioned in 2017. “Due to ongoing legal proceedings, it is not appropriate for Huawei to comment at this time,” a Huawei spokesman told Reuters. He added: “Huawei is committed to comply with all applicable laws and regulations in the countries and regions where we operate, including all export control and sanction laws and regulations of the UN, U.S., and EU.” The indictment also cited 2012 and 2013 reports that Skycom suggested in late 2010 to sell millions of dollars worth of HP equipment to Mobile Telecommunication of Iran, Reuters’s report Monday states. Huawei said it never delivered the products, but the documents Reuters published Monday suggest the company delivered some of the equipment.

Meanwhile, another report Monday from TheWSJ shows that Huawei contacted Abbie Lowell — an attorney who represented Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner — to help the company revamp its tarnished image. TheWSJ cited people who are familiar with the Chinese company’s campaign. The company also hired Michael Esposito in August 2019, according to a disclosure filed with the Senate. Esposito is reportedly a member of Trump Victory, a fundraising committee that includes the president’s reelection campaign, according to the website of his firm, Federal Advocates. The Washington Post reported in January that the FBI is investigating Esposito for evidence of possible fraud. While he frequently brags about his access to Trump and his family, White House officials and senior Republicans say he exaggerates his claims of access, WaPo reported at the time.

U.S. Announces $108 Million In Humanitarian Aid For Syrian People

While on a diplomatic visit to the Turkish-Syrian border Tuesday, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Craft announced the U.S. will give the Syrian people $108 million in humanitarian aid.

The aid will be delivered through the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), International Organization for Migration (IOM), UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), World Food Program (WFP), non-governmental organizations, and others, according to a press statement by State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus.

In her statement, Ortagus said the Assad regime, Russian, and Iranian forces have, since December, 2019, ‘forced nearly 950,000 people in northwest Syria – more than 80 percent of whom are women and children – to flee for their lives’ and she highlighted that it’s the largest ‘forced displacement’ since the start of the nearly nine year crisis in Syria.

“Today’s announcement is part of our ongoing efforts to provide life-saving food, shelter, winter clothing and other supplies, medical care, and safe drinking water to assist millions of Syrians in need, including those fleeing the devastating violence in northwest Syria,” Ortagus said.

On Tuesday, the United Nations convened to warn the Syrian people that they would experience “unprecedented levels of suffering and pain.” Moreover, the international body singled out Russia for committing war crimes in Syria.

The UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria’s report released Monday detailed the dire humanitarian crisis and reiterated the need to deliver aid to the Syrian people as any hope for peace and security is lacking.

“The immediate priority must be for all civilians to have access to the food, water and medical assistance they urgently require. Facilitating access for monitors and protection actors is also key to safeguard the rights of civilians.” said Commissioner Karen Koning AbuZayd.

Warren has barely any, Bloomberg is getting some, and Klobuchar/Mayor Butt will give theirs to Biden. Bloomberg just wants to have a say in who is the nominee when he gives his delegates, and so does Warren. Welp, thanks to these 2 Republicans both running against Pelosi and splitting their votes, the witch is all but guaranteed to keep her seat, even if Dems lose the house majority.

John Dennis and Deanna Lorraine both ran against Nancy in her district, and neither was able to get enough votes for even 2nd place. CA is a "top 2" election state which means only the top 2 recipients of votes in the primary (regardless of party) will be on the ballot in the general election. This means Buttar and Pelosi (both Dems) will be the only choices on the ballot for her seat in the general. I guess it probably didn't matter in the end, because even combined the Repubs didn't get enough for 2nd place.

In Schiff's district Republican Eric Early got 2nd place, but by the looks of the totals, he doesn't have much of a chance of defeating Schiff in the general.

I guess CA hasn't burned down quite enough yet with these 2 in office. Looks like they'll stick around to finish the job.
