Persian Pipeline

Persian Pipeline, also known as the Pars Pipeline and Iran–Europe pipeline (Persian: ‎), is a proposed natural gas pipeline to transfer Iranian gas from the Persian Gulf to European markets.[1]

This planned pipeline will connect Iran's South Pars gas field with Turkey and then with European markets. It would consist of two principal sections:

Iranian section, also is called Iran Gas Trunkline 9 or IGAT-9, starting in Asaluyeh will transport gas from South Pars gas field to the city of Bazargan at the border with Turkey.[2][3]

The European section, which will cross Turkey, passing on to Greece and Italy.[2][3] In Italy the pipeline would be split:the northern branch will run to Switzerland, Austria and Germany, while southern branch will supply France and Spain.[4][5][6] It is not clear if the Trans Adriatic Pipeline, foreseen for Iran gas export to Europe, would be part of this project or not.

Russia’s Gas Web Ensnares Europe

New pipeline projects throughout the Middle East could boost Russian influence there while also ensuring the country’s role as the prime supplier of energy to Europe.

As Washington readies itself for a diminished role in the Middle East, Moscow is laying the groundwork for a significant long-term presence. By acquiring pipelines and exploration rights in Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria, Russia is building a land bridge to Europe through the

Middle East. In doing so, it will cement its role as Europe’s primary gas supplier and expand its influence in the Middle East, posing serious risks to U.S. and European interests.

Russia already supplies 35 percent of Europe’s total gas imports, and it has long worked to head off any European efforts to diversify energy supplies. Here, Russia also has to worry about its abysmal relations with Ukraine—the conduit for most of its Europe-bound exports. Building an energy transit network through the Middle East would allow Moscow to stay in the game.

Is the fight over a gas pipeline fuelling the world’s bloodiest conflict?

THE Syrian war often seems like a big confusing mess but one factor that is not often mentioned could be the key to unlocking the conflict.

Some experts have pointed out that many of the key players have one thing in common: a billion-dollar gas pipeline.

Factor in this detail and suddenly the war begins to make more sense, here’s how it works:

IT’S THE GAS, STUPID

Many have questioned why Russia became involved in the Syrian war but often overlook the fight over natural gas.

As Harvard Professor Mitchell A Orenstein and George Romer wrote last month inForeign Affairs, Russia currently supplies Europe with a quarter of the gas it uses for heating, cooking, fuel and other activities.

In fact 80 per cent of the gas that Russian state-controlled company Gazprom produces is sold to Europe, so maintaining this crucial market is very important.

But Europe doesn’t like being so reliant on Russia for fuel and has been trying to reduce its dependence. It’s a move that is supported by the United States as it would weaken Russian influence over Europe.

This has not gone down well with Russia, which uses its power over gas as political leverage and has a history of cutting off supply to countries during conflicts. It has even gone to war in Georgia and Ukraine to disrupt plans to export gas from other parts of the Middle East.

As David Dalton, the editor of the Economist Intelligence Unit, told The New York Times: “Russia has always used gas as an instrument of influence. The more you owe Gazprom, the more they think they can turn the screws.”

Much of Russia’s power comes from established pipelines used to transport gas to Europe cheaply. But other countries are now trying to get around Russia and provide new sources of gas to Europe.

Last year US President Barack Obama spoke openly about the need for Europe to reduce its reliance on Russian gas following the conflict in Ukraine.

$18 Million in Meth, Heroin, Cocaine Seized at Texas Border Crossing

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in South Texas seized more than $18 million worth of methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, and marijuana in a single drug smuggling incident.

Rio Grande Valley Sector officers assigned to the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge cargo facility observed a tractor-trailer approaching from Mexico for entry inspection before entering the United States, according to information obtained from CBP officials in South Texas. The officers referred the driver of the rig hauling a shipment of fresh broccoli to a secondary inspection station for further scrutiny.

Officers checked the trailer with a non-intrusive imaging system which led to the discovery of a large number of unusual packages based upon the cargo manifest. The officers followed up with a physical search of the trailer which led to the recovery of 432 packages believed to be filled with narcotics, officials reported.

The officers removed the packages and began testing to determine the type of drugs being smuggled into Texas. They found 341 of the packages tested positive for methamphetamine. The meth weighed nearly 900 pounds and had an estimated street value of $18 million, officials stated.

Officers also found 87 packages of marijuana weighing more than 200 pounds with an estimated value of about $40,000. They also found three packages containing heroin which weighed 8.82 pounds ($353,000 estimated value) and one package of cocaine weighing 3.31 pounds ($25,500 estimated value).

“This was truly a notable seizure in the commercial environment,” Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/ Anzalduas, said in a written statement. “Our officers’ ability to maintain an excellent enforcement posture while keeping trade flowing and uninterrupted is one of our main priorities.”

The case is now being investigated by ICE Homeland Security Investigations special agents. CBP officials seized the drugs and the tractor-trailer. Officials provided no information about the driver of the rig.

Breitbart Texas has reported extensively on the drug and human smuggling activities of the Gulf cartel which controls all smuggling operations in this region.

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is being called on to resign from his nightly hosting gig after comparing Sen. Bernie Sanders’s win in the Nevada caucuses to the Nazi invasion of France in 1940.

“I was reading last night about the fall of France in the summer of 1940,” Matthews said during MSNBC’s live coverage of the caucuses on Saturday. “And the general, Reynaud, calls up Churchill and says, ‘It’s over.’ And Churchill says, ‘How can that be? You’ve got the greatest army in Europe. How can it be over?’ He said, ‘It’s over.'”

Surprisingly, the analogy did not go over well, especially with Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is Jewish and had most of his family killed in the Holocaust.

The Latest: Nevada Dems won’t offer detailed vote breakdown

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Latest on presidential campaign developments (all times local):

The Nevada Democratic Party says it’s not planning to offer a more detailed breakdown of the votes from its caucuses as requested by Pete Buttigieg’s campaign and appears to be inviting the campaign to follow recount rules instead.

The Buttigieg campaign late Saturday night sent a letter to the party raising questions about the caucus results, which showed Buttigieg in third, saying it had received more than 200 reports of problems integrating early votes and allocating votes on a second round of caucus voting.

The campaign asked the party to release a more detailed breakdown of votes and address concerns before releasing final results.

Party spokeswoman Molly Forgey said the party is continuing to verify and report results and is not going to offer a more detailed breakdown than it already planned to provide.

Forgey says “there is a formal method for requesting a challenge of results” laid out in the party’s recount guidance.

The party’s rules say any request for a recount must be filed by 5 p.m. Monday.

A 17-year-old, Corey Johnson, murdered a 13-year-old, Jovanni Alexander Sierra, and stabbed two others in Florida in 2018, and this week it was reported that the victim’s family is suing the Publix grocery store chain for selling Johnson the knife, as the sale violated a Florida law that prohibits the sale of knives to anyone under age 18. That’s all well and good, but there is a good deal more to this story: this was a jihad massacre committed in the name of Islam and in accord with its teachings, but it has been swept under the rug. Apparently it doesn’t fit the establishment media narrative.

According to The Blaze, “Johnson, who had converted to Islam prior to the attack, had been under investigation by the FBI because he was viewing radicalization propaganda online, including beheading videos.” Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Police Chief Clint Shannon explained: “Corey Johnson has confessed his actions to our investigators stating that he stabbed the victims because of his religious beliefs. Our understanding is he had converted to Islam and had been watching violent videos online.”

In the immediate aftermath of the murder, the Palm Beach Post reported that “in January 2017, several local law-enforcement agencies and the FBI came together with the staff at William T. Dwyer High School in Palm Beach Gardens, where he was a student at the time.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office received information that Johnson supported the terrorist organization ISIS and had reached out to the group online, expressing his desire to join them.”

Not only that. “The FBI told Jupiter police that a counter-intelligence agency in Europe investigated Johnson’s connection to several threats made on Instagram to McAuley Catholic High School in Doncaster, England. Though the report does not say what the threats were, authorities said they ‘were so severe in nature that up to 100 students were removed from the school fearing some kind of attack.’ British news outlets reported that in October 2016, a threat posted on Instagram stated ‘we will kill every single infidel student at this school.’”

Yes, you read that right: he reached out to ISIS, wanting to join them, and likely sent threats of a jihad massacre to a school, and yet over a year later he was still running around loose and unsupervised to the extent that he was able to buy a knife, even though he was underage, and use it on three people, killing one.

No “watch list” for Corey Johnson. No nothing. So the kid wanted to join ISIS! Who cares! It’s just a phase! And anyway, it’s all right: “a sheriff’s detective interviewed Johnson for a mental-health assessment.” What a relief! His judgment? The sheriff’s detective “said the teen sympathized with terrorist organizations.” No kidding, really?

Johnson’s mother and grandparents said that the boy had “recently began discovering religion.” Which one? You guessed it: he had started, they said, studying the Qur’an. Sierra’s throat was slashed. Maybe Johnson got the idea to do that from one of his scripture studies: “When you meet the unbelievers, strike necks…” (47:4). All these years later, Corey Johnson showed all the signs of being a dangerous jihadi. Nothing was done because to have acted upon those signs would have been “Islamophobic.” Sierra’s family is suing Publix for selling Johnson the knife; they should be suing law enforcement for not watching Johnson more closely, and the establishment media for relentlessly demonizing anyone who ever suggested that selling Johnson his Qur’an may have been just as dangerous as selling him the knife.

ALBANY — "Eighteen Jewish Community Centers nationwide including at least one in New York State received bomb threats Sunday and although no bombs were found, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said the intent of whoever made the threats appeared to be to instill fear.

None of the threats were received in Nassau or Suffolk counties, according to police.

“They are trying to create that terror,” Cuomo said from the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish Community Center, which received a threat. “We can't let them.”

The US intelligence community’s top election security official appears to have overstated the intelligence community’s formal assessment of Russian interference in the 2020 election, omitting important nuance during a briefing with lawmakers earlier this month, three national security officials told CNN.

The official, Shelby Pierson, told lawmakers on the House Intelligence Committee that Russia is interfering in the 2020 election with the goal of helping President Donald Trump get reelected.

The US intelligence community has assessed that Russia is interfering in the 2020 election and has separately assessed that Russia views Trump as a leader they can work with. But the US does not have evidence that Russia’s interference this cycle is aimed at reelecting Trump, the officials said.

“The intelligence doesn’t say that,” one senior national security official told CNN. “A more reasonable interpretation of the intelligence is not that they have a preference, it’s a step short of that. It’s more that they understand the President is someone they can work with, he’s a dealmaker.”

One intel official said Pierson’s characterization was “misleading” and a national security official said Pierson failed to provide the “nuance” needed to accurately convey the US intelligence conclusions, reported CNN.

Pierson is a senior official in the ODNI who was ‘providing her view of the intelligence.’

Pierson’s inaccurate information was then leaked to the New York Times which caused a firestorm — and Democrats wonder why Trump doesn’t trust the intel community!

Thankfully President Trump just appointed Richard Grenell as Acting DNI to “clean house.”

Well, what do you know…. All of a sudden today, anonymous intelligence officials are reporting to CNN that Ms. Pierson “overstepped” her position, was “misleading” in her briefing, and “mischaracterized” the underlying intelligence. Imagine that.

Why would Shelby Pierson and Joseph Maguire intentionally blindside the White House?

The briefing was obviously spun by HPSCI Chairman Adam Schiff and democrats on the House intel committee; and there was no intelligence presented during the briefing to support the claims made by Pierson, Democrats and media.

If it seems like CNN just stumbled into the journalism thing, don’t react too quickly. The underlying motive for CNN to narrate truthfully on this example is simply to get Ms. Pierson fired (which she should be). If Pierson is fired, CNN will most likely jump back on the bandwagon of President Trump helping Russia again.

Buttigieg campaign demands Nevada Democratic Party fix ‘errors’ in count

The campaign of former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg has sent a letter to the Nevada State Democratic Party asking it to release more voting data and correct “errors and inconsistencies” during the caucus count identified by the campaign.

The letter, dated Saturday, asks for the release of all early vote and in-person totals by precinct, a correction of any early vote and second alignment errors identified by any campaign and an explanation of anomalies in the data.

With 60 percent of precincts reporting as of Sunday morning, Buttigieg was third, well behind declared winner Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and narrowly in arrears of former Vice President Joe Biden, trailing the latter by about 300 delegates and less than 100 second alignment votes.

“Currently our data shows that this is a razor thin margin for second place in Nevada, and due to irregularities and a number of unresolved questions we have raised with the Nevada Democratic Party, it’s unclear what the final results will be,” said Hari Sevugan, Buttigieg’s deputy campaign manager.

The Buttigieg campaign asked that the alleged errors be corrected before any final release of results.

State party responds

Nevada Democratic Party spokeswoman Molly Forgey released a statement Sunday morning in response:

“We laid out our early vote and caucus day processes step by step, and we communicated these processes to all campaigns. We are continuing to verify and to report results. We never indicated we would release a separate breakdown of early vote and in-person attendees by precinct and will not change our reporting process now. As laid out in our recount guidance, there is a formal method for requesting a challenge of results.”

In the letter from Buttigieg’s campaign, Michael Gaffney, the ballot access and delegates director, said the campaign received “more than 200 incident reports … including a few dozen related to how early vote factored into the in-person results.”

Hundreds protest outside parliament as bill passes.

LISBON — Portugal’s parliament voted in favor of allowing euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide for terminally ill people Thursday.

The landmark vote mean it the country poised to become one of the few countries in the world permitting the procedures. However, Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa could still attempt to block it.

The Republican Assembly, Portugal's parliament, approved five right-to-die bills, each by a comfortable margin. Left-of-center parties introduced the bills, which had no substantial differences.

Before lawmakers voted, hundreds of people outside parliament building protested the measures. One banner said: “Euthanasia doesn't end suffering, it ends life.”

Some protesters held up crucifixes and religious effigies.

SIPA Police arrested Two Bosnians suspected of Involvement in smuggling more than a Tonne of Cocaine

The State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) has arrested two people on suspicion of involvement in smuggling more than a tonne of cocaine worth about 50 million euros, which was supposed to end up on Bosnian market!

According to Avaz news portal, cocaine was discovered and seized in several containers in one port in Italy and was hidden in banana boxes. Investigators returned the containers to their final destination, and most of them ended up in Bosnia-Herzegovina and a smaller one in Northern Macedonia.

In addition to two BiH citizens, the action involved several persons from Italy, Montenegro and Northern Macedonia, where four people were arrested. A source close to the investigation says the action was launched after Italian police obtained information on smuggling of narcotics, which were heading to the Balkans, and organized secret surveillance of suspects and drugs. “In one port, Italians seized drugs that were addressed to the port of Bar in Montenegro. Investigators discovered multiple containers of cocaine, concealed with bananas. They found and seized 970 packets of 1,128 kilograms of cocaine”, a source close to the investigation says.

The top lawyer for the intelligence community, who played an integral role in the decision to keep from Congress the whistleblower complaint that sparked the impeachment inquiry into President Trump is leaving his post, CBS News has learned.

Jason Klitenic, general counsel for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, will step down from his position next month and return to the private sector, the office, which oversees the 17 intelligence agencies, said. Klitenic has served as the top lawyer for the intelligence community since August 2018 after he was unanimously confirmed by the Senate.

Jason Klitenic, ODNI general counsel: Klitenic joined Holland & Knight in 2010 and led its national security team in Washington.

Klitenic, who is the brother-in-law of FBI Director Christopher Wray, was also on the Trump transition team.

Klitenic got a shoutout from Wray at the FBI director’s confirmation hearing in 2017, when Wray thanked Klitenic and his wife Kate by name.

“A commitment like this affects the whole family, and I have no words to adequately express my gratitude to all of them,” Wray said at the time.

He’s no stranger to working with federal agencies, as Klitenic previously worked with the Homeland Security, State and Defense departments. Since joining ODNI, he’s likely to have regularly coordinated with the Justice Department, as he has during the whistleblower controversy.

Klitenic is now in the spotlight for letters he wrote to the House and Senate Intelligence committees earlier this week, on behalf of ODNI. In the letters, he argued that a whistleblower complaint sought by the House panel did not have to be shared with Congress because it didn’t reach the statutory standards needed for disclosure.

During his confirmation hearing in 2017, Klitenic told Senators in his opening statement: “I also believe strongly in my responsibility, if confirmed, to keep the Congress fully and currently informed and my responsibility to support your oversight over the IC. The IC’s unique missions are often practiced in secrecy, to protect critical sources and methods in support of our national security.”

A federal judge in Kansas who struck down a law that prevents people from “encouraging” or “inducing” illegal immigration has resigned after being reprimanded for sexual harassment.

The jurist is Judge Carlos Murguia of the U.S. District Court of Kansas, who was appointed to the bench by former President Bill Clinton in 1999. Oral arguments will take place at the Supreme Court on Feb. 25 in an appeals court ruling now under appeal that was a factor in the judge’s controversial ruling.

(Bloomberg) - Billionaire Carlos Slim’s construction company Promotora del Desarrollo de America Latina is planning the biggest public stock offering Mexico has seen in almost two years.

The company, known as Promotora Ideal, will sell 25.8 billion pesos ($1.4 billion) worth of shares in a Fibra E, a Mexican REIT-like structure that invests in infrastructure projects, according to a filing to Mexico’s stock exchange.

The sale is led by two Canadian funds owned by Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, who bought a stake in Promotora Ideal’s parent company. The funds will retain small stakes in the Fibra E and Promotora Ideal will administer the Fibra E after it is issued. A Slim spokesman and spokespeople for the Canadian funds did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — The Rocky River Fire Department is on the scene of a massive structure fire.

The fire broke out Sunday evening at an unoccupied condominium project under construction on Hilliard Boulevard between Wooster Road and Valley View Drive, according to the Rocky River Fire Department.

Interstate 90 lanes were shut down in both directions but have since reopened, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

High winds caused ash to be blown across I-90, the Rocky River Fire Department said.

No injuries have been reported at this time.

Authorities have shut off the power in the area and the American Red Cross has been notified, according to city officials.

The Don Umerley Civic Center located at 21016 Hilliard Blvd. has been opened for residents in the area, police said.

Police confirmed the fire has spread to at least one other building.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Dominion Energy was called to the scene after rescue crews reported the smell of gas. Dominion Energy crews say they did not find natural gas, they found propane.

The condo project was new construction and was nearly completely framed before it caught fire Sunday, according to city officials.

Smoke from the fire showed up on radar from Rocky River, according to News 5 meteorologist Trent Magill.

Fire crews are asking the public to avoid the area.

Against the backdrop of a then pending OIG FISA report, in December of 2019 buried deep in the congressional budget Continuing Resolution (CR) was a short-term extension to reauthorize the FISA “business records provision”, the “roving wiretap” provision, the “lone wolf” provision, and the more controversial bulk metadata provisions [Call Detail Records (CDR)], all parts of the Patriot Act.

As a result of the FISA CR inclusion the terminal deadline was pushed to March 15, 2020:

FISA Court judges Rosemary Collyer (declassified 2017) and James Boasberg (declassified 2019) both identified issues with the NSA bulk database collection program being exploited for unauthorized reasons. For the past several years no corrective action taken by the intelligence community has improved the abuses outlined by the FISA court. The sketchy programs, and abuse therein, needs more public attention.

However, there is now a confluence of events highlighting a likelihood congress and the intelligence apparatus writ large want to reauthorize the FISA surveillance and collection authorities without further sunlight and without public input. Here’s what’s going on

AG Bill Barr is scheduled to meet with key Senators next week. While the media are attributing and framing the meeting toward Trump activity, it is more than likely one key purpose of the upcoming meeting is AG Barr advocating for quiet FISA renewal.

Keep in mind the deadline for the DOJ to respond to the FISA court about the abusive intelligence practices identified in the Horowitz report was February 5th, more than two weeks ago. The responses from the DOJ and FBI have not been made public.

MORROW, Georgia — The Clayton County, Georgia school district’s police department is investigating threats made to Marrow High School.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson had been accused of bias by Stone’s attorneys in a filing on Friday that called for her recusal. Stone, 67, was convicted on Nov. 15 of lying to Congress, obstruction of justice and witness tampering.

In a court filing on Sunday, Jackson rejected his lawyers’ arguments and defended her impartiality.

CHICAGO (CBS) — Gov. J.B. Pritzker is not on board with President Donald Trump’s idea of commuting the sentence of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Pritzker spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh released the following statement Thursday afternoon: “The governor has said he believes the former governor is in prison, where he belongs. The president should instead focus his attention on the critical issues facing this country, like gun safety.”

Trump said Thursday he’s “thinking very seriously” about commuting Blagojevich’s sentence on corruption charges, claiming the former governor’s crimes amounted to no more than “braggadocio” and ill-advised talk on the phone.

Blagojevich has served more than seven years of his 14-year sentence, following his 2011 conviction for, among other things, trying to sell an appointment to the U.S. Senate seat once held by Barack Obama before he was elected president in 2008.

While campaigning for governor in 2018, Pritzker briefly became the subject of controversy over a phone call between him and Blagojevich nearly a decade earlier. The call was recorded on an FBI wiretap.

Pritzker has said he pushed for Blagojevich to appoint Secretary of State Jesse White to fill Barack Obama’s old Senate seat in 2008. In the call, he described Illinois Senate President Emil Jones – also seen at the time as a possible Obama successor – as “crass.”

He also said, if Blagojevich were forced to pick an African-American to replace Obama in the Senate, Jesse White would be the “least offensive” pick.

Blagojevich went on to appoint former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris for the Senate seat – three weeks after the former governor was arrested on accusations of trying to sell the Senate seat. Blagojevich was impeached and removed from office a month later.

Pritzker apologized for the remarks after they were made public, and went on to be elected governor.

Malaysian anon here. Since yesterday, 23rd Feb 2020, there has been ongoing emergency meetings within the coalition party's as well as high level meetings taking place as of this moment with cabinet members.

So to give you guys a quick rundown, Malaysia had a historic election in 2018, reason being that its the first time since our independence that we have gotten a new coalition government to run the country. The idea to elect the opposition government at that time was to "clean" the country up from decades of corruption and to bring justice for the 1MDB case.

I can't seem to provide much atm as its a bit chaotic right now. Nobody has got much of an idea of what the hell exactly is going on. Seems like there is a lot of "closed door" decisions being made.

I'll try my best to update you guys once I've gotten a clearer idea of whats going on. I don't know if I will have enough time though. If any anons from around this region or knows more about what is going on could provide some insight into this it would really help.

How The "Interpreter" Scam Brought 75,000 Iraqis And Afghans To America

The latest battle over Special Immigrant Visas pitted Stephen Miller, President Trump’s senior advisor, against the Pentagon. The military brass was lobbying for 6,000 special immigrant visas for Iraqis who worked for American forces in the country. These visas were once again billed as helping “interpreters”.

That’s a lot of interpreters considering that there were only 5,200 American troops in Iraq.

How could there be more Iraqi interpreters for American troops than there are troops?

The Special Immigrant Visa scam has been sold for over a decade using the same claim that it’s needed to save the lives of Iraqi and Afghan interpreters who are risking death by helping American soldiers.

In one decade, the United States has handed out 75,250 of these visas to Iraqi and Afghan employees, and their dependents. Between 2007 and 2017, they represented 1 percent of all immigrant visas.

The truth is that the military brass has wrongly used the incentive of Special Immigrant Visas to recruit local personnel and cut costs by promising them resettlement in the United States. Considering the costs of resettling even the nicest Iraqi or Afghan families, it would have been cheaper to pay each of them a six-figure salary. But that would have come out of the defense budget. The SIV scam passes the buck to local cities and states, to ordinary taxpayers and communities who have to hire interpreters who speak Pashto to interact with the children of the interpreters who are swamping local school systems.

One Iraqi or Afghan employee brings a lot more dependents and expenses with him. In 2017, the 4,677 Iraqi and Afghan employees brought 13,713 dependents with them for a total of 18,390 refugees.

Those were the worst numbers since before Obama took office.

While conventional refugee numbers have been slashed, the number of Special Immigrant Visas for Iraqis and Afghans drastically shot up because the Pentagon was getting its way on immigration. Few of these visas were for actual interpreters. That number tends to be capped at 50 a year. Most of the SIV applicants coming in had to have only worked for a few years in often vaguely defined capacities.

Some were actual interpreters. Many more were cultural advisors and linguists.

All they have to do is claim that they received threats over their work for the US or the ISAF, the multinational force in Afghanistan, and they are resettled in the United States as refugees.

While the media has repeatedly accused President Trump of stopping interpreters from coming to this country even though they, allegedly, risked their lives, the number of SIV visas for Afghans and Iraqis shot up from 10,681 in 2014, to 14,383 in 2016, to 18,390 in 2017.
