U.S.—The Democratic campaign to encourage mail-in voting hit a snag yesterday after a mailer encouraging people to vote by mail got lost in the mail.

The Postmaster General confirmed today that approximately 86 million pamphlets sent by the DNC extolling the virtues and benefits of voting by mail simply vanished. "I dunno. There were, like a ton of them too. Not sure how that happened," he said.

After receiving an alert, mail carriers across the nation searched through their couch cushions and in their cars for the missing mail, but to no avail. Local police have also been pulled off rioting duty to comb the forests and sewers for the pamphlets.

In a statement, Trump responded, "See? I told you the mail was a bad idea! Very bad, and by the way, not so good! Sad. Many people made fun of my warnings, and I could say 'I told you so' but I won't. Well, I guess I just did. I once lived in Australia as a single parent. About 20 years ago or so, there was a huge push for the MMR vax which cost the taxpayers over $100 million. This set off my spidey senses because I couldn't see how the diseases themselves could cost the community anything near that sum so I decided to research vaccines.

What I found caused me to reject the vax for my 3 children. This caused an interesting domino effect.Firstly, the children's school insisted that the children had to be fully vaccinated to attend school even though it was my legal right to refuse the vax. It is also a legal requirement that children,unless home schooled, must legally attend school.

After much discussion with the principal, during which I steadfastedly maintained my position, it was finally agreed that the children could continue atthe school.

However, as a single parent, i was receiving child care subsidy and I was then blackmailed by the government mandating that this subsidy was then made dependent on the children being 100% fully vaccinated.

My response?

I gave them a big fuck you and withdrew my children from organised day care and made private arrangements.

A couple of years later, my son, an avowed NPC, contracted mumps and to this day still blames me for my anti vax stance.

I have always been on the fringe and questioned everything; if 2 + 2 doesn't appear to add up to 4 I have to understand why as part of my own brand of autism.

I saw the corruption rife within Australia, but saw it in a much wider perspective, along with false flags such as Port Arthur and the CIA backed coup against Gough Whitlam and concluded that Australia was the proving ground for what I termed the NWO, but now am quite happy to use the term Deep State, before rolling out their Orwellian dictates in the rest of World.

I was hoping that Scott Morrison, with his friend on Twatter being a follower of Q, and his apparent relationship with Trump, would be a new broom to sweep clean the filth inherent in the system, but I'm starting to concernfag now.

I hope this is misplaced and I am just missing some of the finer details.

Only 7 States Have Signed Up For $300 Unemployment Stimulus As Businesses Warn They Won't Participate In Payroll Tax Plan

With Congress still deadlocked over Phase 4 of the fiscal stimulus - despite a report that Nancy Pelosi was getting closer to the Republican bid of $1 trillion as she was willing to cut the Democrat ask "in half" to reach a deal - according to an update from FEMA, only 7 states, Colorado, Missouri, Utah, Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana and New Mexico, have signed up with FEMA so far to access the additional $300 weekly stimulus for those receiving unemployment benefits under Trump’s Aug 8 Executive Order. Using initial claims data, this accounts for only 6% of Americans receiving unemployment insurance, which means that more than 90% are currently ineligible for the emergency stimulus.

And while more states are expected to continue to sign up, the process will be lagged which will result in delayed payments.

What is interesting, as Citi economists have speculated, is whether states that did not apply to FEMA will end up seeing their unemployment rates fall faster, in other words, will it turn out to be the case that unemployment rate is higher than it would be without the stimulus because some individuals are making more not working?

That said, it is concerning that the single biggest boost to the US consumer which buoyed the economy for much of the past three months - federal stimulus for the unemployed…

… is being delayed both through FEMA but also through Congress not moving on Phase 4.

Meanwhile, in another major setback for Trump's attempt to single-handedly carry the economy through to the Nov 3 finish line without Congress, a coalition of big-name business groups warned that many employers won’t participate in President Trump’s payroll tax deferral plan.

Calling it “unworkable,” they said in a letter Tuesday to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin that it risks saddling their workers with large postponed tax bills they could have trouble paying back. According to the coalition, someone earning $35,000 would see their biweekly pay go up by $83 this year, the groups wrote, but would owe $751 next year. People earning $75,000 would see a $178-per-paycheck bump now, but would face a $1,609 tax bill next year.

It is called the allocution.It is the most important part of a guilty plea in federal court. It comes — if it comes — when the judge personally addresses the accused, who has been placed under oath, and asks him to explain in his own words how and why he is guilty of the crime charged.

Is Kevin Clinesmith willing to allocute? Is he willing to admit without reservation that he deceived his FBI colleagues and a federal court? The lack of clear answers to those questions is almost certainly the sticking point — the reason why, to this moment, there is only a false-statement charge against the former Bureau lawyer, not a false-statement guilty plea.

When it comes time to allocute, the court must ensure that the accused acknowledges committing the acts alleged and, just as significantly, doing so with the level of criminal intent prescribed in the relevant penal statute — the mens rea of the crime. If the accused does not admit guilt, and evince that he is doing so voluntarily and in full awareness of the possible consequences, then the judge should not accept the guilty plea.

After all, such a plea involves a waiver of constitutional and statutory rights — to due process, to putting the prosecution to its burden of proving all elements of the charge beyond a reasonable doubt at trial, to appeal. The plea further subjects the accused to potential imprisonment and significant fines; and the allocution itself could subject the accused to further prosecution for perjury if he lies while under oath.

From the Justice Department’s standpoint, moreover, a deficient allocution can mean that all bets are off. Prosecutors can withdraw the offer to settle the case by plea; they can file an indictment alleging additional crimes.

In addition, if the plea agreement contemplates cooperation in exchange for sentencing leniency, the allocution can be a make-or-break moment. If the accused is not forthright in admitting his misconduct and corrupt intent, that may well render him useless as an accomplice witness. The guilty plea may stand, but the Justice Department is apt to conclude that the accused has failed to live up to the cooperation terms, exposing him to the likelihood of a more severe sentence.

In a big investigation, particularly in the case of the first suspect to plead guilty, there is a lot riding on the allocution. In the case of “Russiagate,” while we are not privy to the negotiations, it sure looks like Connecticut U.S. attorney John Durham is not buying Clinesmith’s mealy-mouthed version of events — the version publicly touted by his lawyer.

Yesterday, Judge James E. Boasberg of the federal district court in Washington, D.C., scheduled what he described as a “plea agreement hearing” in the case. That is to occur, by telephone, tomorrow at 1 p.m. So it sounds like the parties are still negotiating.

At the end of last week, it seemed all systems were “go.” Thursday night, Attorney General Bill Barr publicly acknowledged that, on Friday, there would be a development in Durham’s investigation. He said it would not be “earth shattering.” That could have meant just the filing of charges, rather than a guilty plea. But then Clinesmith’s lawyer, Justin Shur, announced that his client was about to plead guilty. As I noted Friday evening, the false-statement charge was filed by the prosecutor as a criminal information. That had to mean Clinesmith had waived indictment by the grand jury. That often happens when a defendant has agreed to plead guilty, especially if there is a cooperation agreement. (As of now, no plea or cooperation agreement has been filed.)

Whatever Kevin Clinesmith is thinking, his allocution would not be sufficient if it mirrors Shur’s portrayal of what happened. If I’m the judge, I wouldn’t accept such a guilty plea. And if I’m the Justice Department, and I’m convinced Clinesmith’s story is a self-serving distortion, I wouldn’t agree to accept the plea, to drop any charges, or to sign Clinesmith up as a cooperating witness.

The stakes are high for John Durham, too. In a high-profile investigation, the first charges and the first guilty plea set the tone. They signal whether the prosecutor has a case, whether he is negotiating from a position of strength or weakness. And everybody is watching.

The Adult Swim animated series "Squidbillies" has fired actor Unknown Hinson over "extremely offensive and derogatory social media posts," show creators announced.

After 15 years voicing Early Cuyler, the actor and musician, whose real name is Stuart Baker, was cut from production "effective immediately." According to screenshots on social media, Baker made sexist and racist comments regarding an article in which Dolly Parton showed her support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

"We're aware of the extremely offensive and derogatory social media posts made late last week by Stuart D. Baker," read a statement from Jim Fortier and Dave Willis shared to the official "Squidbillies" Twitter account. 6 injured in suspected terror attack on German motorists

LONDON – A man has been charged with attempted murder following a series of car crashes on a German motorway which authorities believe had a potentially Islamist motive, Berlin’s public prosecutor said on Wednesday.

Six people were injured, three of whom are in serious condition, and are currently hospitalized, following the crashes on an inner city highway in Berlin on Tuesday evening. The Berlin police force said that the attacker appeared to be targeting motorcyclists.

The suspect, who has not yet been named, will appear before a judge today.

Witnesses reported that the car deliberately rammed other cars, two motorcycles and a scooter. Up to 300 people were affected by long traffic jams, with the highway closed down in the aftermath of the incident.

“Statements by the accused after his actions suggest a religious-Islamist motivation,” they said in a statement. “There is also evidence of psychological instability.”

Jason Kurland of Long Island, NY, scammed winners out of over $100M in all, prosecutors say

A Long Island attorney who bills himself as the “lottery lawyer” ran a mobbed-up scheme to bilk jackpot winners out of more than $100 million in prize money, Brooklyn federal prosecutors alleged Tuesday.

Jason Kurland, 46, cultivated clients from across the nation, including a $1.5 billion Mega Millions winner, and promised to invest their winnings — but instead threw their cash into shady investments run by reputed Genovese crime family soldier Christopher Chierchio and two other associates, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District said.

Kurland allegedly got kickbacks for steering the money to Chierchio, 52, and his partners, who funneled a portion of the lottery winners’ money back to them under the guise that they were “interest payments” on their phony investments. But the “winners” ended up losing.

The attorney, who oversaw the scam from 2018 until this year, skimmed $107 million from the unsuspecting investors, prosecutors alleged.

Two other accused scammers, former securities broker Francis Smookler, 45, and 38-year-old Frangesco Russo, are also accused of using some of the money they got from Kurland’s clients to float a $250,000 “street loan” to jewelry merchant Gregory Altieri, prosecutors said.

Russo and Smookler, who expected Altieri to repay $400,000, then resorted to threatening the jeweler and his family for the repayment, the feds alleged.

“They’re gonna pop your head off in front of your f—ng kids,” Russo is allegedly heard telling Alteiri on a federal wiretap. “This guy has no clue what he’s getting into.”

In another taped call, Russo allegedly told Altieri that the people coming for him would “make you watch as they rip your son’s teeth out of his mouth, watch, they’re going to do worse things to your wife.”

All four men were arraigned on wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy charges via teleconference by US Magistrates Judge Lois Bloom.

They all pleaded not guilty and all were released on bond. The bonds were set at $3 million for Chierchio, $2.5 million for Smookler, $2 million for Russo, and $1 million for Kurland.

Federal prosecutors said they are appealing Russo’s bond.

Last year, Chierchio, of Staten Island, was acquitted in an unrelated bid-rigging case in Manhattan State Supreme Court. He had been charged with conspiring to fix construction bids on a luxury apartment building projects in Brooklyn, the Staten Island Advance reported at the time.

Last month, federal prosecutors hit Altieri with a separate wire fraud indictment charging him with running a two-year $200 million Ponzi scheme by luring investors with phony jewelry deals and promising inflated returns.

American universities are struggling to conduct certain classes this fall in a way that will protect Chinese students from prosecution under that country’s new national-security law.

China applied a law to the territory of Hong Kong in late June that gives the government broad authority to arrest any resident suspected of offenses against the “national security” of the country. The legislation states that it will apply to offenses committed against the Hong Kong administration “from outside the Region by a person who is not a permanent resident of the Region,” meaning anyone in the world can be prosecuted under the law.

American universities host thousands of students from China and Hong Kong, many of whom will be taking online courses this year. Universities and professors are now struggling to teach the courses in ways that will protect students from prosecution under the national security law.

“We cannot self-censor,” Rory Truex, assistant professor of Chinese politics at Princeton, told the Wall Street Journal. “If we, as a Chinese teaching community, out of fear stop teaching things like Tiananmen or Xinjiang or whatever sensitive topic the Chinese government doesn’t want us talking about, if we cave, then we’ve lost.”

With many students learning online from their homes in China, it will be especially tricky for professors and schools to teach subjects that are censored by the Chinese government.

BEIJING (Reuters) - China’s military said on Wednesday the latest U.S. navy sailing near Chinese-claimed Taiwan was “extremely dangerous” and stirring up such trouble was in neither country’s interests.

The U.S. guided-missile destroyer USS Mustin sailed through the narrow and sensitive Taiwan Strait on Tuesday, the U.S. navy said, in what have become relatively routine trips in recent months, though they always anger China.

The Eastern Theatre Command of China’s People’s Liberation Army said its air and naval forces followed and monitored the U.S. ship throughout its voyage.

“Any words or deeds that ... cause trouble in the Taiwan Strait are not in line with the fundamental interests of China and the United States, harm the well-being of compatriots on both sides of the strait, pose real threats to peace and stability in the region and are extremely dangerous”, it said.

Chinese forces will remain on high alert at all times to safeguard China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, it added.

Taiwan’s defence ministry said the U.S. ship was on an “ordinary mission” and passed through the Taiwan Strait in a southerly direction.

BEIJING (AP) — China suffered a double blow Wednesday of flooding and landslides from unusually heavy seasonal rains and a typhoon that came ashore on its southern coast.

It was the first time in at least 70 years that water had reached the foot of the Leshan Giant Buddha, a 71-meter (233-foot) -tall statue carved into the side of a mountain in the eighth century.

Emei Mountain, a nearby tourist site, reopened to visitors after being closed for nearly three days.

The sprawling Chongqing municipality saw its worst flooding since 1981. Water covered roofs in low-lying areas of the historic town of Ciqikou, which was closed to tourists because of the rains from Tuesday evening.

China: 3 Gorges Dam braces for decades' largest floods

The world's largest electricity-producing dam in China is bracing for the country's largest floods in decades, local media reported.

China is witnessing heavy rainfall this season, triggering floods in most southern parts of the country and increasing the water level of the Yangtze River which is spanned by the Three Gorges, Wudongde, Xiluodu and Xiangjiaba dams.

The Yangtze has been witnessing its largest floods since 1981 due to the incessant downpour, with floods forcing authorities to evacuate more than 100,000 of the region's residents.

Based in China's central Hubei province, Three Gorges Corp said the dam was "ready to confront the challenge" posed by the deluge by coordinating with the other dams upstream to retain floodwater, the daily Global Times reported.

This is the first time since 2003 that the giant dam was opened due to its facing such a huge challenge of floods.

The floods in the Yangtze River has also raised concern over potential damage to the 1,200-year-old world heritage site of the Leshan Giant Buddha. The 71-meter (233-feet) statue is located in the southwestern Sichuan province. The rising water level in rivers has pushed muddy floodwater to its toes for the first time since 1949.

Hydro-meteorological estimates show the Three Gorges Dam will face water levels of at least 73,000 cubic meters per second Thursday morning – the largest since 2003.

"To confront the flood peak, dams in the upstream of the Yangtze River including Wudongde, Xiluodu and Xiangjiaba dams will work together under elaborate deployment and operation to jointly retain the flood," Three Gorges Corp said. All three dams are managed by Three Gorges Corp.

China's President Xi Jinping also visited the flood-stricken residents in eastern China's Anhui province.

Helm had been looking into "condo games" for several months. He compared them to a house party "where the parents are out of town."

"But the most shocking thing is that you see characters that are naked, and you see that kids have coded ways for these characters to have sex," he said.

Aside from that, Helm said he found some users even going as far as trying to get kids to start separate, private conversations with them on a different app.

"And you don't know if someone is actually an adult pretending to be a child or with very bad intentions," he said.

Roblox declined an on-camera interview request but said it has "no tolerance for inappropriate content or behavior". The company said it has "a stringent safety system in place," including monitoring content created by users, acting quickly on reports of inappropriate content and continually evolving its defense systems.

James "Tim" Norman, the star of the OWN reality series "Welcome to Sweetie Pie's," has been arrested on federal charges for his alleged involvement in a murder-for-hire plot that resulted in the death of his nephew.

Norman, 41, also the owner of the Jackson, Mississippi, restaurant, was arrested by FBI agents Tuesday in Jackson on charges of conspiracy to use interstate commerce facilities in the commission of a murder-for-hire resulting in death, according to a statement released by the FBI's Jackson office.

The reality show, which ran from 2011 to 2018, followed Norman and his mother Robbie Montgomery, a former backup singer for Ike and Tina Turner, as they ran the family restaurant franchise.

An affidavit filed Aug. 11 states Norman conspired with Terica Ellis, of Memphis, Tennessee, using prepaid cellphones to coordinate the murder of Norman's 21-year-old nephew, Andre Montgomery, on March 14, 2016, in St. Louis, Missouri. Ellis also faces one count of conspiracy, according to the complaint.

The affidavit states Norman attempted to obtain a life insurance policy for Montgomery in the amount of $250,000 in October 2014, but the policy was not issued. Another policy totaling $450,000 was issued by a separate insurance company two weeks later, and Norman was named as the sole beneficiary.

SYDNEY, Australia — The grainy photograph certainly said something about China and the Pacific: It showed the Chinese ambassador, Tang Songgen, walking over the backs of 30 people on a remote island in the nation of Kiribati soon after he had landed on a grassy airstrip.

To some, especially American and Australian officials who helped the image go viral this week, there was no greater symbol of Chinese “Wolf Warrior” diplomacy — in their view, it reinforced Beijing’s domineering, colonial approach.

To others, including people from Kiribati, the criticism was a sign of ignorance. The ambassador was simply taking part in a local welcome ceremony, typically reserved for weddings, that elders had chosen to adapt.

Whether it was inappropriate statecraft or a tempest in a tropical teapot, the debate reflected a new reality for the nations of the Pacific: They suddenly matter again in geopolitics. China and the United States are waging a war of influence across the vast region that often brings aid and attention — but also an urge to talk (or walk) first and ask questions later.

Jailed WeChat User Says Chinese Police Monitor Overseas Accounts Too

2020-08-18 – Authorities in the eastern province of Shandong detained a user of the social media platform WeChat after he sent content to a friend in the United States, providing fresh evidence that the ruling Chinese Communist Party is monitoring communications with WeChat users.

Gao Zhigang was taken away on Sept. 26, 2019 and initially held under criminal detention by police in his home district of Yingze in Shandong's Taiyuan city, on suspicion of "picking quarrels and stirring up trouble."

Following his release, Gao told RFA that he was detained on the basis of a single video clip he forwarded to his U.S.-based friend.

"After I was detained, I was held under administrative detention for 10 days, and they interrogated me," he said. "Then, on the eighth day, I was transferred to the criminal detention center."

"Then there was a 10-month wait before I was sentenced for 'picking quarrels and stirring up trouble'," he said.

Gao's 10-month sentence for "slander" of the government and public order charges included time already served, and he was recently released after being sentenced last December.

But the twist came when Gao viewed the evidence against him, and realized that it hadn't come from his phone.

"The screenshots they provided weren't mine, because I had deleted everything after sending it," he said. "The recipient was also being monitored – by a different police station."

"They are able to get into WeChat through a back door and target you."

Cai Xia had recently spoken in support of another party critic, businessman Ren Zhiqiang, and called China's leader Xi Jinping a "mafia boss."

In an exclusive interview with VOA’s Mandarin service, Cai said that Xi faces widespread opposition inside the party and is doing everything he can to maintain stability from within. That frequently means using a variety of methods to suppress dissent or even differing voices within the party.

“There’s a rule among party leaders. The more pressure it faces externally, the more it fears internal problems,” she said. “Now with great challenges home and abroad, they are trying to silence even the slightest different voices to maintain stability inside the party.”

According to Cai, the core work of the Party since 2019 has been “political safety.” She said that right now in China, “political safety” means that Xi maintains his “safe” place as the Party’s top leader.

The move is just the latest example of Harris’s phony politicking and further obscures claims she’s the first African-American pick for Vice President.

During the 2003 race, which Harris won by less than one percentage point, she adopted the Chinese name “He Jinli” in a calculated attempt to secure more votes from San Francisco’s sizable Chinese community.

Chinese-language media reporting recounted the process by which Harris adopted the name, at the advice of local Chinese leader and friend Su Rongli:

“At that time, He Jinli talked to her about the strategy of winning Chinese votes. She suggested that He Jinli choose a unified Chinese name that would be easier for Chinese voters to remember. He Jinli thought this was a good suggestion.”

Harris was identified as “starting the tradition” of non-Chinese individuals running for public office adopting Chinese names, as she was the first candidate to do so.

After Harris inaugurated the trend, California outlawed the use of candidates using foreign names different from their English names on ballots in 2019.

Harris and Su, both lawyers, met each other through their involvement with the Asian Bar Association of the Bay Area according to Su.

The association is yet another blow to Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden and his mainstream media counterparts’ insistence that Harris is African-America; she’s half Indian and half Jamaican.

The report concludes with an emphasis on how despite Harris adopting a Chinese name, the vote-seeking display translated into “little interaction with the Chinese community”:

“After 15 years of being elected to public office, some people of Chinese descent claimed that He Jinli had little interaction with the Chinese community, and Su Rongli agreed.”

Clearly, after decades of pandering to different communities, Kamala Harris has perfected the art form. Whether or not the American public at large will fall for the dupe as so many Californians did remains to be seen.

Scotland's first proposed spaceport has been fully approved to proceed with construction and operation (via The Northern Times). The facility, which will be built in northern Sutherland on a peninsula that extends into the North Atlantic. This will be the future launch site for Orbex, a startup looking to develop the UK's first re-usable orbital launch vehicle.

This approval follows submission of all the necessary documents, including a full environmental assessment, to local regulators and the Scottish government. Full approval means that construction can proceed, paving the way for launches to begin taking off from the site sometime over the course of the next few years.

Domestic launch capabilities in the UK would provide a significant opportunity for the area's expansion of its bourgeoning private space industry. How Russian Spy Submarines Can Interfere With Undersea Internet Cables

America and the West’s dependency on undersea internet cables could be a strategic vulnerability. It is the consequence of both geography and the rise of the international digital economy. Russia, by comparison, doesn’t rely on the cables as much, and it has a substantial fleet of spy submarines designed to operate on them.

Russia’s ability to meddle with undersea cables has raised concerns on many occasions in recent years. Let’s look at which Russian Navy submarines may be involved and how they operate, based on previous incidents which are only now being spoken about.

During the Cold War the focus was military communication cables and sonar arrays laid on the sea floor. But today the ‘seabed warfare’ arena has been expanded to include the internet cables which crisscross the oceans. Around 99% of our transoceanic data traffic flows through undersea cables, including financial transactions, email, social media and of course military communications.

Aaron Amick, a sonar expert who runs the Sub Brief channel on YouTube and Patreon has shared his firsthand experience of their modus operandi. Amick served aboard U.S. Navy submarines shadowing Russian subs operating over NATO cables off the Norwegian coast in the early 1990s. Note that this was after the end of the Cold War.

The first thing that the West may know of a Russian operation against the cables is the arrival of an Akula Class nuclear-powered attack submarine in the area. These can be very stealthy so they may not be detected. This is the over-watch patrol and will circle the target area to create a perimeter defense against snooping NATO submarines.

A newly published study in The Astrophysical Journal Letters has put the kibosh on the idea that 'Oumuamua is made of molecular hydrogen ice, an idea first proposed in April and reported by Fox News.

"The proposal by [Darryl] Seligman and [Gregory] Laughlin appeared promising because it might explain the extreme elongated shape of ‘Oumuamua as well as the non-gravitational acceleration," the study's lead author, Dr. Thiem Hoang, senior researcher in the theoretical astrophysics group at the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI), said in a statement. "However, their theory is based on an assumption that H2 ice could form in dense molecular clouds. If this is true, H2 ice objects could be abundant in the universe, and thus would have far-reaching implications. H2 ice was also proposed to explain dark matter, a mystery of modern astrophysics."

Dr. Avi Loeb, a co-author of the new study, said the researchers wanted to test the dark matter proposition, as well as the assumptions in the theory.

"We were suspicious that hydrogen icebergs could not survive the journey – which is likely to take hundreds of millions of years – because they evaporate too quickly, and as to whether they could form in molecular clouds," Loeb added in the statement.

Fox News has reached out to Laughlin with a request for comment on this story.

In November 2018, a study published by Loeb and others at the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics suggested 'Oumuamua could be "a lightsail of artificial origin" sent from another civilization.

"I have to say... I am dumbfounded by this. How is it that Bill Clinton has not been canceled by the Democratic – how has he survived all of these waves of cancellations when he has been one of the biggest violators of these rules all these years?" Jennings asked.

"We believe in redemption, brother," Jones replied.

Jennings then pointed out the hypocrisy of their arguments.

“We talked about the use of character to try to say Donald Trump is a man of low character, Joe Biden is … He’s fair game on that,” he said. “That’s totally fine. So you’re going to say that in one breath and then say, ‘Character matters. Ladies and gentlemen, Bill Clinton.’ Does this make sense to anyone? If you want Republicans to vote for Joe Biden, having Bill Clinton talk about character and not hav[ing] drama in the Oval Office—is that the right answer?"

The Democrats then made excuses for Clinton, including that he "has acknowledged his wrongdoing" and "apologized."

Aug. 19 (UPI) – The United States and Japan are to jointly build a network of small satellites capable of detecting new missiles, as Tokyo warns of increasing threats from North Korea.

The purpose of the satellites would be to complement the currently existing system of missile defense, which includes Japan's PAC-3 missile interceptors, the Nikkei reported Wednesday.

Tokyo is growing increasingly wary of North Korean weapons development. In July Japan's defense ministry said North Korea could have perfected the capability to miniaturize nuclear warheads.

China's rising military expenditure and weapons development could be posing new threats. For 2020, China's defense expenditures were up 6.6% from 2019. A total of 2,000 Chinese intermediate-range missiles, capable of reaching Japanese territory, are expected to be in deployment. China could also double the number of nuclear warheads in its arsenal within a decade, the report says.

In the latest flashpoint for U.S.-Chinese diplomatic relations, President Donald Trump is moving to incentivize American firms to shift their operations out of China. But the response from major firms so far has been dismissive or muted.

After moves made to ban Chinese tech companies such as TikTok, WeChat and Huawei in the U.S., Trump has widened his scope to those American companies outsourcing work and production.

Dangling the promise of tax credits in a speech, he vowed to create 10 million jobs in 10 months, saying "we will end our reliance on China." Trump also threatened to remove government contracts from firms continuing to outsource work to China.

Trump said: "We will create tax credits for companies that bring jobs from China back to America. We built the greatest economy in the history of the world and now I have to do it again."

As simple as Trump made this sound, how it will work in practice is in question. For foreign businesses seeking to operate in China, it is often required that they enter joint ventures (JVs) with local firms.

This is partly because U.S. companies have to navigate restrictions to opening up in China, and establishing a JV with a local partner is a helpful method for this.

As tensions remain high, the two neighbours are seeking to gain the advantage on the roof of the world

China and India have reportedly sent their most advanced fighter jets to airbases near their disputed border region in the Himalayas, where a stand-off continues.

According to a Forbes report on Monday that cited commercial satellite imagery, two Chinese J-20 stealth fighters have appeared at the Hotan airbase in the far western Xinjiang region.

The airbase is China’s closest – about 320km (200 miles) – to the disputed Aksai Chin region.

Tensions have remained high in the area since June, when Chinese and Indian troops had their worst border clash in decades in the nearby Galwan Valley between Aksai Chin and Ladakh.

MANILA, Philippines — There have been over 200 aftershocks recorded since Masbate and nearby provinces were rocked by a Magnitude 6.6 earthquake on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

According to a detailed sequence of the earthquakes posted by Phivolcs on Wednesday, this includes the Magnitude 5.1 earthquake that hit 12 kilometers southwest of Cataingan on early Wednesday morning.

State seismologists also revealed that the largest movement was preceded by what they call as foreshocks, or earthquakes before the main earthquake or mainshock.

“This earthquake was preceded by several foreshocks (pink dots) including the M4.9 and M4.6 earthquakes on August 11 and 17, respectively,” Phivolcs said.

“As of 10:30 am of 19 August 2020, there are already more than 200 aftershocks (blue-green dots) recorded including the M5.1 earthquake,” it added.

Saudi Arabia said Wednesday it would not follow the United Arab Emirates and establish diplomatic ties with Israel until the Jewish state had sealed a peace accord with the Palestinians.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan told reporters on a visit to Berlin that "peace must be achieved with the Palestinians" on the basis of international agreements as a condition for any normalisation of relations with Israel.

"Once that is achieved all things are possible," he said.

The surprise Israel-UAE deal last week is only the third such accord Israel has struck with an Arab country, after Egypt and Jordan, and raises the prospect of similar accords with other pro-Western Gulf states.

Until now, Saudi Arabia, the Arab world's biggest economy, has maintained a conspicuous silence over the deal, but local officials have hinted that Riyadh is unlikely to immediately follow in the footsteps of its principle regional ally despite US pressure.

At a news conference with his German counterpart Heiko Maas, Prince Faisal reiterated criticism of Israel's "unilateral policies" of annexation and building settlements in the West Bank as "illegitimate" and "detrimental" to a two-state solution.

As part of the landmark deal, Israel agreed to suspend the annexation of occupied West Bank territories, although Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the plan was not off the table in the long run.

ATHENS, GREECE - The massive American warship, the USS Hershel Woody Williams, has arrived in the Greek island of Crete, on a mission to keep an eye on escalating tensions between NATO allies Greece and Turkey over energy rights in the eastern Mediterranean. The US vessel joins others from the European Union and Russia, raising concerns among some in Greece about what a military buildup could mean.

Military experts describe the USS Hershel Woody Williams as a floating base, the second of a new class of massive ships the US Navy is now using as fast transport and support centers for military operations.

The 230-meter-long ship, about the size of some skyscrapers, was earlier in Naples, Italy, for a routine logistics stop before it was sent to Crete where it is on standby as Greece and Turkey remain locked in a standoff.

Greek and Turkish battleships have been gathering in the region since President Recep Tayyip Erdogan ordered a research vessel to the eastern Mediterranean to survey for gas and oil.

KABUL: Afghan security forces on Tuesday repelled a Taliban attack, killed one of the terror group's commanders, and injured several other terrorists in the eastern Nangarhar province, the press office of the provincial government said on Wednesday.

"Yesterday, the Taliban attempted to attack security forces in the Sherzad district, a local Taliban commander was killed and two others were injured," the press office said in a statement. According to the local government, Afghan forces also discovered and dismantled eight mines planted by the Taliban in the Nazyan district of the province.

Floodwaters in China creep over giant Buddha’s toes for first time in 70 years

Floods in southwest China have forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate in recent days, with water levels rising over the toes of a 1,200-year-old giant statue of Buddha for the first time since Mao Zedong swept the Communists to power in 1949.

Southwest China’s Sichuan province raised the flood emergency to its highest level for the first time on record, warning water in some areas was guaranteed to be at least 5m above flood protection levels.

Seasonal flooding hits large swathes of China each year, but the rainfall levels this year have been the highest in decades, displacing two million people and leaving more than 200 dead or missing.

Officials said more than 100,000 people were evacuated so far this week out of the Leshan region of Sichuan alone, on the upper reaches of the Yangtze river.

Water lapped at the toes of the 71m Leshan Giant Buddha – an 8th century statue carved into a mountainside at a point where three rivers converge – as rescue workers and volunteers used sandbags to try to protect the Unesco world heritage site.

State media said it was the first time water levels had reached as high as the feet of the giant Buddha since the People’s Republic of China was formed by Mao Zedong in 1949.

An ancient local saying forewarns that if the Buddha’s toes get immersed, the provincial capital of Chengdu and its surrounding plains are sure to flood.

Some streets in Chengdu were turned into rivers this week, following several days of record-breaking deluges.

Landslides blocked roads and destroyed homes across the region, and in some low-lying areas rooftops and treetops were all that could be seen protruding from the flooded plains.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Goodyear employee says the company has put out a new policy that has some calling it not equal for all.

A photo seen circulating on social media shows a slide that was presented during a diversity training showing what’s acceptable and what isn’t acceptable as part of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company’s zero-tolerance policy.

Under acceptable: Black Lives Matter (BLM), Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride.

Listed as unacceptable: Blue Lives Matter, All Lives Matter, MAGA Attire, Political Affiliated Slogans or Material.

According to the employee who took the photo of the slide, it was presented at the Topeka plant by an area manager and says the slide came from their corporate office out of Akron, Ohio.

"If someone wants to wear a BLM shirt in here, then cool. I'm not going to get offended about it. But at the same time, if someone's not going to be able to wear something that is politically based, even in the farthest stretch of the imagination, that's discriminatory," said the employee under the agreement of anonymity due to fears they could lose their job. "If we're talking about equality, then it needs to be equality. If not, it's discrimination."

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — A Greek-flagged cargo ship with 18 crew on board caught fire in the Arabian Sea early on Wednesday, leaving one crew member dead and another one injured, Greece's Shipping Ministry said.

The ship had been sailing without cargo from the United Arab Emirates to Port Elizabeth in South Africa when the fire broke out in the middle of the night, the ministry said. It was not immediately clear what had caused the blaze.

The fire was extinguished by mid-morning, and the ship was drifting without steering, far from land, the ministry said. Nearby ships had been notified to render assistance.

The ministry said the ship’s 55-year-old second engineer had died in the blaze, while the 26-year-old third engineer was injured. Both are Greek.

Germany to test merits of universal basic income by giving out $1,400 a month

German researchers will test whether universal basic income could work by handing out around $1,400 per month to a group of people for three years.

The German Institute for Economic Research experiment will involve 1,500 people randomly selected throughout the country, though only 120 will receive the cash payments, the Times of London reported.

Funded by about 140,000 private donors, the pilot program will give out the equivalent of $1,430 a month, putting the participants just above the poverty line.

The entire group will fill out regular surveys about their lives to gauge how their attitudes and behaviors change, the outlet reported.

“So far the debate has resembled a philosophical salon at best, and a religious war at worst,” Jurgen Schupp, who will lead the study, told German outlet Der Spiegel, according to the Times.

“On both sides, it is characterized by clichés: critics claim a basic income would make people stop working and lie on the couch with fast food and streaming services. Supporters say people would carry on with meaningful work, become more creative and pro-social, and rescue democracy.”

So far, 90 percent of the participants said they will continue working despite the new cash flow, the report said.

One of the participants has said she will use the payments for her own entrepreneurial pursuits instead of joining her family’s hotel business, the outlet reported.

“I’ve asked myself: ‘What am I spending my time and my money on? Am I doing this because I have to, or because I want to? What can I achieve with it?’” she said.

U.S. to invoke Iran deal "snapback" on Thursday: Israeli officials

The Trump administration has notified Israel that it plans to submit a formal request at the UN Security Council on Thursday to initiate "snapback" sanctions on Iran, Israeli officials tell me.

Why it matters: This move could create a diplomatic and legal crisis unlike any seen before at the Security Council. It comes days after the U.S. failed to mobilize support at the council to extend an international arms embargo on Iran.

The big picture: Despite having withdrawn from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, the U.S. is invoking its terms in an attempt to force sanctions lifted under the pact to snap back into place.

The deal says any of the signatories — the U.S., Russia, China, France, Germany and the U.K. — can demand sanctions be reimposed automatically if they believe Iran has committed substantial violations. No country can veto such a move.

Russia and China contend that the U.S. gave up its right to reimpose the sanctions when it withdrew from the deal. That view is shared by others on the council, and even by John Bolton, the hawkish former national security adviser.

The U.S., on the other hand, claims it has the right to initiate the snapback mechanism because it is a party to the Security Council resolution that endorsed the nuclear deal and included the snapback mechanism.

The European signatories, who have tried desperately to save the nuclear deal, also oppose the U.S. move.

How it works: Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is expected to arrive in New York on Thursday and present formal letters to the UN secretary-general and the UN ambassador from Indonesia, who holds the Security Council's rotating presidency.

The letter will then be circulated to other members, beginning a 30-day consultation period.

What to watch: Israeli officials and Western diplomats both say they expect a major diplomatic crisis over those 30 days.

If any member of the Security Council submits a resolution to stop the snapback move, the U.S. will be able to veto it.

U.S. officials believe that the renewal of international sanctions will lead Iran to withdraw from the nuclear deal — and likely make it impossible for Democratic nominee Joe Biden to put the deal back together if he wins in November.

Israeli officials were notified on Monday that the Trump administration intended to submit the official complaint on Thursday.

A trio of disturbances are lined up one after the other in the Atlantic Ocean, and at least two of them will probably develop in the coming days and become named tropical storms.

While there is a large amount of uncertainty in the ultimate fate of all three disturbances, each of them has some potential to affect land areas from the Lesser Antilles to North America, depending on their exact tracks and whether they hold together and strengthen.

The parade of storms marks a sudden reawakening of the Atlantic basin that could kick hurricane season into overdrive in the coming weeks. The active stretch looks to carry into September, with multiple named storms probable through then.

The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season already has featured a typical season’s worth of named storms, with 11 having formed through mid-August, although none were overly intense. The factory-like storm production included the earliest C, E, F, G, H, I, J and K storms ever recorded in the Atlantic, part of a season that has been nearly twice as active as average.

Facebook is enabling users to discover Black-owned businesses through a new feature on the platform.

The social networking giant is rolling out a self-designation tool for Pages that lets entrepreneurs and admins identify businesses as Black-owned. The companies will then appear under a "Black-Owned Businesses" header on the website's Nearby Businesses front.

The idea is to drive more eyes and foot traffic to Black and minority-owned firms in the wake of civil unrest across the country, according to Maxine Williams, Facebook's global chief diversity officer.

"The visualization of what Black people have been going through forever has caused more people to become aware and interested in doing something," Williams said. "You have people saying 'I want to help, but I don't know how to help.'"

Page admins will receive a notification to find out more about the feature, which is launching along with a new Black-owned business grant program.

Wildfires Rage In California As Emergency Crews 'Stretched Thin', Grid Faces Further Rolling Outages

At least two dozen fast-moving wildfires have forced thousands of people in Northern California to flee their homes Wednesday amid the second week of record-setting temperatures.

"Throughout the state of California right now, we are stretched thin for crews" because of the fires, said Will Powers, a state fire spokesman, who was quoted by CBS News.

Powers said, "Air resources have been stretched thin throughout the whole state."

A major wildfire is burning in Solano County, where homes and other structures have been torched.

Another fire was burning in the southwest of Silicon Valley. Evacuation orders were seen in Big Basin Redwoods State Park, Año Nuevo State Park, Butano State Park, and Pescadero Creek County Park.

Patterson told FOX26 the recent problems showed that "you can't run" the fifth- largest economy in the world on just wind and solar.

Conservation measures helped avoid rolling blackouts in California on Tuesday as a scorching heat wave has stressed the state's electrical system to a point not seen in two decades.

But the Golden State's recent power problems have drawn anger and new focus over an increased reliance on renewable energy and gaps in storage capacity for an event like record-breaking heat.

The ISO said high wind energy production and conservation helped keep electricity flowing, but another Flex Alert is in place Wednesday as triple-digit heat continues.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who declared a statewide emergency Tuesday due to the heat and 30 large wildfires across the state, said California is in the "critical 48-hour period" with energy usage.

On Monday, Newsom ordered an investigation into outages that occurred Friday and Saturday.

"We’re doing everything in our power to understand the root causes of this," the governor said.

But Republican Assemblyman Jim Patterson of Fresno, the vice-chair of the Committee on Utilities and Energy, said Monday that the state's reduced dependence on natural gas has fueled the recent troubles.

"I have been warning over and over again that the policies coming out of the Democrat-controlled legislature and governors' office are creating the conditions for blackouts and brownouts and here we are seeing the evidence," Patterson told FOX26 News.

Last September, officials during an ISO board meeting had warned that electricity shortages were possible during a heat wave in the near term due to the shift to renewable sources like solar and wind energy that are less reliable.

Kentucky Mayor to Stop Using Goodyear Tires for Police, Fire, and Emergency Vehicles Over Their Anti-Cop Stances

The mayor of Coal Run, Kentucky, has told Gateway Pundit that he will no longer be using Goodyear tires for police, fire, and emergency vehicles in his town over their anti-police policies.

On Tuesday, a photo from Goodyear’s diversity training seminar in Kansas leaked, revealing that they have a “zero tolerance” policy for “Make America Great Again,” “All Lives Matter,” and “Blue Lives Matter” slogans being worn by their employees. Yet, they allow them to wear support for “Black Lives Matter” and LGBTQ causes.

Though they clearly have an anti-cop bias, they market a whole line of “Eagle Enforcer” tires towards police.

Coal Run Mayor Andrew H. Scott told the Gateway Pundit that his officers are outraged over the company’s anti-cop bias and that he will be switching to another company.

Anti-Trump netizens have begun ditching the AdBlock app en masse, after users reported they couldn’t turn off a YouTube political advertisement sponsored by the president’s campaign.

The online outrage over US President Donald Trump’s campaign ads began on Tuesday, prompting AdBlock – a browser extension that allows adverts to be filtered out online – to trend on Twitter. YouTube videos with titles such as “Did something happen to Joe Biden?” and “Democrats ruined their cities” apparently couldn’t be skipped, blocked or decreased in volume, according to some Twitter users.

Meanwhile, some users reported that the website’s landing page had been taken over by a Trump ad with its audio playing without any visual indication as to where to turn it off.

However, not everybody participated in the panic over a few ads, with other users urging the crowd to “grow up” and stop throwing a “hissy fit.”

The service itself didn’t make any comment on the matter and resorted to replying with a seemingly automated message: “Thanks for letting us know! Our team is looking into it now.”

RALEIGH, N.C. — Federal officials said Wednesday that they want to talk to two people involved in a May protest in downtown Raleigh that got out of hand and led to damage at two federal buildings.

The Terry Sanford Federal Building, at 310 New Bern Ave., and the Century Station Federal Building, at 300 Fayetteville St., sustained more than $11,000 in damage combined on May 31, including broken windows and spray-painted graffiti, authorities said.

The FBI and the Federal Protective Service division of the Department of Homeland Security said a woman and a man seen in footage from numerous security cameras downtown on May 31 may have information about the damage to the two federal buildings.

Anyone who can identify either individual or who has information about the damage to the buildings is asked to call the FBI Charlotte Field Office at 704-672-6100.

Grizzly Creek Fire Grows To 28,00+ Acres In Glenwood Canyon

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – The Grizzly Creek Fire burning in Glenwood Canyon continues to grow. It was estimated at 28,030 acres on Wednesday morning.

More than 820 firefighters are assigned to the Grizzly Creek Fire. The hope is to have it contained by Sept. 1.

There is no timeline for when it might be safe enough to re-open Interstate 70.

The Grizzly Creek Fire started on Aug. 10 believed to be human-caused by sparks from a popping tire, dragging chains or a rim along I-70.

Treasuries Slide After Ugly, Tailing 20Y Auction

After last week's dismal 30Y auction, which we said "bombed" due to a surprising lack of investor demand and significantly repriced the bond market sending yields sharply higher, bond traders were cautiously looking forward to the results from today's 20Y auction, the 4th since the tenor was relaunched in May. And just like last week, it wasn't pretty.

The sale of $25BN in 20Y bonds priced at a high yield of 1.185%, well above July's 1.06% and tailing the When Issued 1.176% by 0.9bps.

The bid to cover was just as ugly, sliding to 2.26 from 2.43 last month and the lowest of all 20Y auction since the May resumption.

Lastly, the internals were also ugly, with the Indirect takedown sliding to just 62.6%, well below last month's 67.0% if better than the foreign demand in May and June. And with Directs ending up with 11.2% of the auction, Primary Dealers were left with 26.2%- the highest allottment so far.-cap #2-3

Bottom line: while not as ugly as last week's disappointing 30Y, today's 20Y left a lot to be desired, and the yield quickly spiked to session highs across the long-end of the curve, even if it has since regained much of the losses. That said, the 10Y is now back to where it was before last week's 30Y auction so bond investors appear willing to forgive and forget, for now.
