A group of more than 70 former national security officials spanning the last four Republican administrations endorsed presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden, arguing that President Trump is “dangerously unfit” to serve another term.

Among the group’s members include former National Security Agency and Central Intelligence Director Gen. Michael Hayden, former Deputy Secretary of State and Director of National Intelligence Amb. John Negroponte, and former CIA and FBI Director William Webster.

Four former Trump administration officials also signed the statement including former Department of Homeland Security Chief of Staff Miles Taylor, former DHS Assistant Secretary Elizabeth Neumann, former General Counsel of the Peace Corps Robert Shanks and former General Counsel of DHS John Mitnick.

“While we — like all Americans — had hoped that Donald Trump would govern wisely, he has disappointed millions of voters who put their faith in him and has demonstrated that he is dangerously unfit to serve another term,” the 73 Republican former officials wrote in a joint statement.

“In contrast, we believe Joe Biden has the character, experience, and temperament to lead this nation,” they said of the former vice president.

The group cited 10 reasons behind their decision to support Mr. Biden in the upcoming election and said that Mr. Trump “has disgraced America’s global reputation and undermined our nation’s moral and diplomatic influence,” “demonstrated far greater concern about the fate of his reelection than the health of the American people,” and “disparaged our armed forces, intelligence agencies, and diplomats.”

“While some of us hold policy positions that differ from those of Joe Biden and his party, the time to debate those policy differences will come later,” the former officials wrote. “For now, it is imperative that we stop Trump’s assault on our nation’s values and institutions and reinstate the moral foundations of our democracy.”

Trump admin asks Supreme Court to review decision on Twitter blocks

The Trump administration is asking the Supreme Court to review a decision from last year in which the Second Circuit Court of Appeals said it is a violation of the First Amendment for the president to block someone from his personal Twitter account based on what they say.

While blocked users still have the ability to see a person's tweets if they are not logged in, they are unable to view replies or take part in the conversation that goes on in reply threads, which the court said was a public forum given Trump's use of Twitter to discuss political issues.

NEW YORK GOV. ANDREW Cuomo signed legislation on Thursday allowing voters to request absentee ballots for November's election if they are concerned about contracting the coronavirus.

"I just signed legislation to guarantee that New Yorkers can vote safely & that EVERY vote counts," Cuomo tweeted. "All voters can now request an absentee ballot if they are concerned about COVID. Voters can request absentee ballots starting TODAY."

Under the legislation, the New York Board of Elections must count all ballots postmarked on or before Election Day and received within seven days after Election Day, as well as all ballots without a postmark received on Nov. 4, the day after Election Day.

New York joins nearly a dozen states that will mail ballots to registered voters for the 2020 election.

'Fight Club In The Skies': Brawl Erupts On American Airlines Flight Over Mask Policy

The past months of coronavirus lockdown and social distancing measures have produced some truly bizarre scenes, but perhaps none so strange and potentially dangerous as the brawl that broke out on an American Airlines flight this week.

The incident which happened Monday and was caught on video, reportedly started when a traveler on a Las Vegas to Charlotte flight refused to comply with the airline's coronavirus protective face mask policy. After a flight attendant ordered the maskless woman to exit the flight, other angry passengers appeared to invervene while the airline called authorities to get a disruptive woman off, and that's when punches started flying.

The passenger that uploaded the widely shared video said, "Nothing like a morning Fight Club as tempers flared on American Air LAS-CLT flight today."

"So much for social distancing!" the eyewitness added. Onlookers could be seen getting increasingly frustrated that the belligerent woman in the pink shirt was causing a significant flight delay due to the incident.

Security was called in and escorted the women off the plane, but the latest in a series of 'mask vs. maskless' tense encounters over this bizarre summer of COVID-19 social distancing measures.

The full three-and-a-half minute video of the ordeal shows a woman standing in the aisle arguing another while airline personnel are nowhere in sight, followed by the moment fists go flying. A man in row behind also later joins in the melee.

An American Airlines official statement on the incident later said, “On Monday, a customer on American Airlines Flight 1665 with service from Las Vegas to Charlotte failed to comply with our mandatory face-covering policy after boarding the aircraft prior to departure.”

It continued: “In accordance with our policy, the customer was subsequently asked to leave the aircraft and became disruptive, resulting in an altercation with other passengers.”

Pelosi faces progressive backlash over Joe Kennedy endorsement

Liberal groups, led by freshman House Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, attacked Speaker Nancy Pelosi for endorsing Rep. Joe Kennedy III in the Massachusetts U.S. Senate race. Pelosi’s announcement first broke in the Boston Globe and appears to counter Democratic leadership opposition candidates who challenge their party incumbents. The California Democrat chose Kennedy, the grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, over incumbent Sen. Ed Markey, who is endorsed by Ocasio-Cortez. The two face off in the Bay State’s Sept. 1 primary. Both Kennedy and Markey are liberal, but Markey, 74, has a much longer career as a progressive legislator. Kennedy, 39, has campaigned as a candidate who can usher in a new generation of leadership. Pelosi picked Markey’s competitor despite a policy put in place by the party’s House fundraising arm, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, banning business with groups that back candidates challenging Democratic incumbents. “No one gets to complain about primary challenges again,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted at the Democratic leadership, noting the apparent hypocrisy. “When can we expect you to reverse your blacklist policy against primary orgs?”

Ocasio-Cortez accused Democratic leaders of “cherry picking activity” and pointed out that the DCCC has not opposed the primary opponent running against Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. Omar has clashed with leaders as part of the “Squad” led by Ocasio-Cortez and has been widely criticized for anti-Semitic tweets and comments. Officials at the Sunrise Movement, a far-left group that helped author the "Green New Deal" and backs progressive candidates, put out a statement that called Pelosi’s endorsement of Kennedy over Markey “an embarrassment.”

Markey was one of the few senators who stood alongside Ocasio-Cortez outside the U.S. Capitol when she announced her plan to introduce the "Green New Deal," an environmental agenda that would upend the economy by eliminating fossil fuels, among other drastic provisions. Markey introduced the bill in the Senate. Pelosi opposes it. “This endorsement is embarrassing because it plainly reveals a ridiculous double standard,” Sunrise Movement officials said in a statement. “This has never been about protecting incumbents; it’s been about protecting big Democratic donors profiting off the status quo.” Markey, who was a House member for 36 years, is leading in recent polls, thanks in part to his campaign's ability to harness progressive groups in the state to help phone-bank on his behalf. Markey won the endorsement of the Boston Globe in July. Markey on Thursday issued a statement about Pelosi’s endorsement, congratulating Kennedy. “Any candidate would be proud to have her endorsement," he said.

Portland rioters target ICE facility and reignite feud with federal police

Protesters in Portland faced off against federal law enforcement officers outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility overnight Wednesday, the first altercation between the parties in weeks since national police were pulled from the streets in late July. Demonstrators marched to ICE’s Office of the Principal Legal Advisor on Southwest Third Avenue, several miles from where people gathered outside federal and county courthouses downtown for months. The group’s members vandalized the outside of the building and beamed green laser lights into the windows where federal police were watching while others smashed windows. People chanted, “No ICE! No Prisons! Total Abolition,” according to a witness account on Twitter.

Portland police declared the gathering an “unlawful assembly” around midnight, which permits the use of tear gas and other stronger response measures. Department of Homeland Security personnel inside the ICE facility then exited to guard the front of the building. Some of the estimated 200 demonstrators hurled glass bottles and rocks the size of softballs at the federal and local police, local news station KGW reported. Portland police warned over a loudspeaker that if the crowd did not disperse, they would take stronger actions to push them away. Local police pushed the crowd away from the building, and federal police used fire pepper balls and smoke devices. Demonstrators then torched large items in the street, including a mattress and picnic table. Portland police arrested two people on charges of “interfering with a peace officer and disorderly conduct.” Several officers were injured in the commotion.

On Tuesday night, protesters started a fire at the county government building with the use of lighter fluid. One officer was injured, and two people were arrested. The Oregon city has been ground zero in a fight between the Trump administration and local Democratic leaders, who say the White House overstepped its bounds by allowing federal law enforcement to come into the city and guard a federal courthouse in June. Federal agents were eventually pulled from the building but have remained in Portland as backup until state police can prove they have control of the area. Last week, state police pulled out on the basis that the agitators they were arresting for attacking the building and officers were not being indicted by the district attorney. Multnomah County Chairwoman Deborah Kafoury said on Wednesday that the county’s Justice Center and central courthouse have sustained $1.3 million in damage as a result of attacks by rioters since May.

Steve Bannon Pleads Not Guilty To Fraud Charges, Freed On $5 Million Bail

Update (1620ET): Bannon pleaded not guilty this afternoon at a brief presentment before U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres in Manhattan, and was freed on $5 million bond which restricts his traveling. Bannon was arrested this morning on a Chinese billionaire’s yacht, and charged with fraud over a $25 million campaign to crowdfund a wall on the US southern border.

Three other executives of the We Build the Wall charity were also charged Thursday with plotting to defraud the donors and launder their money into their own pockets. Bannon; U.S. Air Force veteran Brian Kolfage; venture capitalist Andy Badolato; and Timothy Shea each face conspiracy counts that could carry a maximum 40-year sentence.

“To induce donors to donate to the campaign, Kolfage and Bannon — each of whom, as detailed herein, exerted significant control over We Build the Wall — repeatedly and falsely assured the public that Kolfage would ‘not take a penny in salary or compensation’ and that ‘100% of the funds raised … will be used in the execution of our mission and purpose’ because, as Bannon publicly stated, ‘we’re a volunteer organization,’” according to the indictment filed in the Southern District of New York.

“Those representations were false,” it continues.

According to Courthouse News, acting U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss said the men defrauded hundreds of thousands of donors in this scheme, with the founder treating himself to a boat, Range Rover and a salary on the pretense that every penny the charity raised would be spent on construction.

“While repeatedly assuring donors that Brian Kolfage, the founder and public face of We Build the Wall, would not be paid a cent, the defendants secretly schemed to pass hundreds of thousands of dollars to Kolfage, which he used to fund his lavish lifestyle,” said Strauss, who assumed the position of U.S. attorney earlier this summer after her predecessor Geoffrey Berman’s unexplained and unexpected ouster.

Officials from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the law enforcement arm of the politically embattled U.S. Postal Service, reportedly arrested Bannon on a 150-foot yacht off the Eastern coast of Connecticut owned by Chinese billionaire Guo Wengui.

Update (1430ET): Guo Wengui has released a statement on Bannon's arrest. The former top White House advisor was aboard Guo's yacht at the time of the arrest, according to media reports.
