Harris-Backed Bail Fund Freed Rioter Twice. He’s Now Charged With 3 New Felonies

A Minneapolis man who was twice bailed out by a fund once supported by Vice President Kamala Harris has been arrested again and is facing three new felony charges while under investigation for a possible gun crime, Minnesota prosecutors said.

Thomas Moseley, 29, had previously been arrested and released for cases that involved damaging a police precinct in August as well as rioting in December, according to the Hennepin County’s Attorney Office.

Due to an incident that transpired after his most recent release, Moseley is now under investigation for allegedly attempting to purchase semi-automatic weapons from a gun store on both Jan. 7 and 12 using straw buyers, according to the press release. Moseley was allegedly in possession of marijuana, cocaine and psilocyn mushrooms.

Moseley faces three counts of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm, according to the Hennepin County’s Attorney Office.

Moseley was apprehended Oct. 15 during a protest outside the courthouse where the four former officers involved in the death of George Floyd were appearing, according to the complaint. Officers at the courthouse recognized Moseley and knew he was suspected of damaging a police precinct on Aug. 15 and arrested him. Officers found a gun in his waistband, according to the complaint.

Another criminal complaint states that after Moseley was arrested in October, police obtained a search warrant for his truck after officers smelled marijuana. After a search officers uncovered marijuana, cocaine and psilocyn mushrooms. They also found several guns, numerous magazines, a hatchet, a crowbar and other miscellaneous items, according to the complaint.

In December, Moseley allegedly participated in a riot while armed with a knife, according to a separate criminal complaint.

Moseley managed to post the $5,000 bail for the property damage and earlier gun possession charges through the Minnesota Freedom Fund, according to the press release. Moseley and others also posted bail for the December riot, with the Minnesota Freedom Fund paying $60,000, according to the press release.

Hennepin County Jail records indicate Moseley remains in custody.

The fund has since helped bail a father who is alleged to have molested his 15-year-old daughter, another man accused of sexually assaulting his 16-year-old niece and a woman accused of stabbing her aunt with a knife, according to documents obtained by the Daily Caller.

The fund has also helped bail out six men accused of domestic violence between June and August, documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF) show.

The Minnesota Freedom Fund revealed on Sept. 4 that only roughly 6% of the money it had spent since Floyd’s death had gone to help people facing protest-related charges.

The Daily Caller has reached out to the Hennepin County’s Attorney Office but did not receive a response at the time of publication.

I dug a little bit when he was talking about missing time from independent satellites which are not connected. This happened one day after he made a video from 1/30 about how the magnetosphere pressure from the sun was affected in a way that was not explainable. On 1/31 he made another video of missing times at the same moments massive solar flares were occurring… He then noted that the only way to explain it was that a rouge planet, solar system, or binary star which we could not see with visible spectrum…

I know this may not be related directly to whats being discussed here, and im not a doomer, but this is fucking crazy AF. The sun was literally blocked out by something unimaginably huge…

WASHINGTON – Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered hundreds of Pentagon advisory board members to resign this month as part of a broad review of the panels, essentially purging several dozen who were appointed last-minute under the Trump administration.

During the last two months of his tenure, former acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller removed a number of longtime members from several defense policy, health, science and business boards and replaced many with loyalists of former President Donald Trump. More than 30 of those replacements will now be forced to resign, including former GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich, retired Brig. Gen. Anthony Tata and former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.

“I am directing the immediate suspension of all advisory committee operations until the review is completed unless otherwise directed by myself or the deputy secretary of defense,” Austin said in a memo released Tuesday. And he ordered all committee members who were appointed by the defense secretary to resign no later than Feb. 16.

Austin said the review will assess whether each board provides value and make sure its focus aligns with "our most pressing strategic priorities and the National Defense Strategy.”

Tata, a former Fox News commentator, failed to get through Senate confirmation for the top Pentagon policy job early last year because of offensive remarks he had made, including about Islam. In November, however, Trump appointed him to that same post, just days after firing then-Defense Secretary Mark Esper and putting Miller in the job.

Miller appointed Tata to the Defense Policy Board on Jan. 19, his last full day on the job. Gingrich was appointed to that same board. Lewandowski was appointed to the Defense Business Board.

A senior defense official said Austin's decision was driven by the frenetic activity of Miller to remove dozens of board members and replace them in such a short amount of time between Trump's election loss and the inauguration of President Joe Biden.

Of the 42 advisory panels listed in Austin's memo, 31 will have their members removed, six will be part of the review but their members will be retained, and five others have either no members at this time or have concluded their business. Among the 31 are some of the department's most well known boards, including those with purview over defense policy, science, health, innovation, Arlington National Cemetery and women in the military.

All together there are more than 600 members on the 42 boards. Defense officials said they don't know exactly how many are being asked to resign, but it will be hundreds.

The boards of visitors for the Army, Navy and Air Force academies will keep their members, because those are presidential appointments that Austin does not have the authority to overturn. Among the Trump appointees who will remain on those boards are his former press secretary Sean Spicer and longtime adviser Kellyanne Conway. Those boards, however, will be subject to the review.

One new congressionally mandated commission is also being purged of the four members that Miller appointed in early January. The panel hasn't started its work yet, but will be responsible for figuring out how to go about renaming military bases and property that honor Confederate leaders. The panel is not subject to Austin’s broader review, but he intends to appoint four new members.

In a letter to Austin this week, U.S. Reps. Anthony Brown, D-Md., and Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio, called for the removal of the four Miller appointees on the renaming board. Trump had opposed the renaming of bases, and cited that as a reason for vetoing the defense bill, which included a provision setting up the panel to handle the process.

“Those who are called to serve their nation in this matter must have a deep understanding of and expertise in the history of Confederate monuments and their role in the white supremacist movement," Brown and Beatty wrote to Austin.

The defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations, said Austin believed that stopping the activity of all the boards and doing a more intensive review was the fairest and most consistent process.

Officials said the review will look at whether the boards have overlapping jurisdictions and whether they should be realigned or if money could be saved by trimming some of them. It also will make recommendations on the membership balance, size and mission of all the boards.

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. will kick off what could be a $5 billion dollar bond sale this week, picking up a plan that went quiet last month when its founder had been out of sight for months.

The Chinese e-commerce giant will issue debt to boost working capital and repay its offshore debt, according to a filing Tuesday. Some of sale will comprised of sustainability bonds the company’s first ever with the proceeds earmarked for eligible projects like responding to the Covid-19 crisis and investing in renewable energy, according to the filing. Alibaba was aiming to raise at least $5 billion a month ago, Bloomberg reported in early January. Investors had wondered whether the company could pull it off as founder Jack Ma hadn’t been seen in public since his Internet empire was hit with growing antitrust scrutiny. The company is resuming the debt plans after reporting a 37% increase in quarterly revenue that beat analysts’ expectations, giving the company a much-needed boost amid the regulatory crackdown. Beijing in November torpedoed affiliate Ant Group Co.’s record initial public offering and began an investigation into the online retailer, fueling uncertainty over the future of Ma’s tech empire. But the billionaire entrepreneur’s brief return to public view in January signaled that worst-case scenarios may be less likely.

The debt sale could raise as much as $5 billion, according to a person with knowledge of the matter, who asked not to be identified as the details are private. Citigroup Inc., Credit Suisse Group AG, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase & Co. and China International Capital Corp. are among the underwriters, according to the filing. Treasury's Yellen to convene meeting of top regulators on GameStop volatility

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is calling a meeting of top financial regulators this week to discuss market volatility driven by retail trading in GameStop Corp and other stocks. Yellen will convene the heads of the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Reserve, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, a Treasury official said on Tuesday.

Yellen sought and received permission from ethics lawyers before calling the meeting, according to a document seen by Reuters, and to engage on wide-ranging issues in the financial services industry. Yellen's decision to seek the waiver followed a report here by Reuters that because of speaking fees she was paid by a key player in the GameStop saga, hedge fund Citadel LLC, she may need to seek an ethics waiver in order to deal with matters involving the firm.

The Treasury official, who declined to be identified by name, said the meeting would be held this week, possibly as early as Thursday.

“Secretary Yellen believes the integrity of markets is important and has asked for a discussion of recent volatility in financial markets and whether recent activities are consistent with investor protection and fair and efficient markets,” Treasury spokeswoman Alexandra LaManna said in a statement to Reuters. Yellen’s action comes after days of gyrations in the shares of video-game retailer GameStop driven by retail investors that have made or lost billions of dollars for hedge funds and other investors in recent weeks. Retail trading activity has also driven up silver prices in recent days.

GameStop shares more than halved in value on Tuesday and silver prices retreated as the Reddit-driven trading frenzy that roiled stock and commodity markets died down, at least for now. GameStop shares closed down 60% at $90. They are now worth less than a fifth of their high of $483 last week. The saga is likely to expedite a regulatory review of the ever-larger role played by non-bank firms in the financial markets, regulatory experts say. Treasury ethics attorneys have given Yellen flexibility to work on any related issues that come up, with no limits on current or future markets, the Treasury official said.

In the memo granting Yellen permission to call the meeting of regulators, a Treasury ethics official, Brian Sonfield, said it would be “difficult, if not impossible” for Yellen to recuse herself from matters involving market volatility. “You are the Secretary of the Treasury, the duties of which require you to be involved in a broad array of matters focused on these sectors,” Sonfield wrote. “Issues relating to these sectors could arise at any time without the opportunity for consultation with the ethics office. These circumstances make it difficult, if not impossible, for you to recuse from matters relating to these sectors and also argue in favor of prior authorization.”

Wikipedia launches new code of conduct that bans “false” info and “trolling,” encourages preferred pronoun use

The Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit behind the world's biggest online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, has announced a new code of content for Wikipedia that prohibits "hate speech" and "false" information on the site and also heavily promotes identity politics.

Under the new code of conduct, Wikipedia contributors are expected to "respect the way that contributors name and describe themselves" and this includes "the use of people's preferred gender identity using distinct names or pronouns."

When announcing the new code of conduct, Wikimedia's CEO Katherine Mayer focused heavily on the identity politics aspect of this policy by describing on how it will create an "inclusive environment" and reduce "negative behavior":

"Our new universal code of conduct creates binding standards to elevate conduct on the Wikimedia projects, and empower our communities to address harassment and negative behavior across the Wikimedia movement. Through this effort, we can create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for contributors and readers, and a more representative source of knowledge for the world."

In addition to encouraging contributors to use people's preferred pronouns, gender identities, and more, the new policy also bans a range of "unacceptable" behaviors which include:

Dick Durbin Previews Gun Control: ‘We Have a Lot of Work to Do to Make This Country a Safer Place’

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) previewed gun control during recent days and makes clear he thinks there is “a lot of work to do to make this country a safer place.”

On Monday, Durbin tweeted:

Days earlier, on Janary 27, 2021, Durbin tweeted he met with gun control proponents and assured them “reducing gun violence will be a top priority of the Senate Judiciary Committee.”

Durbin’s gun control comments come after Biden ran for the presidency on gun control pledges that included universal background checks, bans “assault weapons” and “high capacity” magazines, a gun purchase limit of one gun per month, and a repeal of the frivolous lawsuit protections currently in place to shield gun manufacturers.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) responded to Durbin’s gun control pledge by telling the Washington Free Beacon, “Unduly abridging or regulating those rights, especially if it’s through a strictly partisan process, is wrong. I hope, if Senator Durbin chooses to focus on this issue, it will be with a bipartisan, consensus-building approach.”

Fertility rates have fallen around the world over the last decade—even in countries with generous social welfare states, which experts had long expected to be holdouts in the face of fertility declines. But while demographers often talk about this change in terms of “fertility rates” or “births per woman,” another way to tally the total is in terms of missing births. That is, if the population of women who might have kids changed the way it did over the last decade, and if fertility rates had remained at their 2008 levels (the last time we had replacement-rate fertility in America), how many more babies would have been born?

The answer is 5.8 million babies. Since births in the U.S. actually tend to run around 4 million per year, that’s almost like saying nobody had a baby for a year and a half. Figure 1 below shows the difference between the number of babies actually born to moms of each major racial or ethnic group tracked by the CDC from 2009-2019, and the number that would have been born, had 2008 fertility rates remained stable but underlying population totals changed in the same way.

Former CIA Officer: Treat Domestic Extremism As An Insurgency

When it comes to domestic extremists such as those who stormed the Capitol, a longtime CIA officer argues that the U.S. should treat them as an insurgency.

That means using counterinsurgency tactics — similar in some ways to those used in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Robert Grenier served as the CIA's station chief for Pakistan and Afghanistan in 2001. He went on to become the CIA's Iraq mission manager and then director of the CIA Counterterrorism Center from 2004 to 2006.

"We may be witnessing the dawn of a sustained wave of violent insurgency within our own country, perpetrated by our own countrymen," Grenier wrote in The New York Times last week. And without national action, he argues, "extremists who seek a social apocalypse … are capable of producing endemic political violence of a sort not seen in this country since Reconstruction."

In an interview with All Things Considered, Grenier discusses what that national action would mean.

As someone who has watched many violent insurgencies unfold in various countries around the world, what felt the same to you? What felt different?

I don't want to be one to suggest that somehow the United States is going to in any way resemble Iraq or Afghanistan at the height of violence. But what I think is useful is to have some way of thinking about the problem and thinking through the elements of the solution. So I think as in any insurgency situation, you have committed insurgents who are typically a relatively small proportion of the affected population. But what enables them to carry forward their program is a large number of people from whom they can draw tacit support. And that's what I'm primarily concerned with here. I think what is most important is that we drive a wedge between those violent individuals and the people who may otherwise see them as reflecting their interests and fighting on their behalf.

What do you do about it?

I think the most important element of the struggle, if you will, is information. We're not talking about an alien population here. There are friends of mine who believe that the election was stolen. There are members of my family who have very strong doubts. And I think there are a great many people who don't trust you, Mary Louise, I hate to be the one to break it to you, who don't trust NPR or The New York Times.

But again, I think this is the work of a nation. I mean, it's trite to say that we need a national conversation, but in fact, that's what we need.

And so it's people, it's all of us who really need to be engaging with one another in a very sincere way, admitting what we don't know and trying to seek out the truth together. Because without that, I think that there's a level of distrust that is not only unfortunate for the politics in this country, but will also provide a basis for sporadic but endemic violence in this country.

Is there anything that you think could be done with a sense of urgency?

Part of it is simply setting the proper national tone.

White House reporters say Biden team wanted questions in advance

"The key here, it seems, is whether this process is being used to stage the briefings or simply to prepare for them," said media critic Jeffrey McCall.

he Daily Beast on Monday published a rather scathing piece about the new Biden White House and its press operation.

"White House Reporters: Biden Team Wanted Our Questions in Advance," blared the headline.

"If you're a reporter with a tough question for the White House press secretary, Joe Biden's staff wouldn't mind knowing about it in advance," said the lead. "According to three sources with knowledge of the matter, as well as written communications reviewed by The Daily Beast, the new president's communications staff have already on occasion probed reporters to see what questions they plan on asking new White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki when called upon during briefings."

Pretty damning report. The Fourth Estate is protected in the Constitution and its job is to demand answers from America's political leaders, without fear or prejudice. The idea that the media, already viewed as liberal and supportive of Democrats — from Bill and Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama to Biden to congressional lawmakers — could be colluding with the White House provoked alarm.

"The left demands 100 percent loyalty from the press, not the 99 percent they already get," Media Research Center Vice President Dan Gainor told Fox News.

"In today's cancel culture, journalists don't dare be open in their criticism, so that's why this story is all whispers," said Gainor.

The Beast's report drew other questions, though. Was the White House simply trying to find out what reporters were interested in on any given day, or asking for the exact questions they would ask the press secretary in the daily briefing?

Citing anonymous sources, the Beast said it was the latter. "[T]he press can't really do its job in the briefing room if the White House is picking and choosing the questions they want," one White House correspondent told the website. "That's not really a free press at all."

Biden's press team "did not deny that staffers had solicited questions from reporters," said the Beast. "But the White House contended that it has tried to foster a better relationship with the press corps than the previous administration, and has tried to reach out to reporters directly in order to avoid appearing to dodge questions during briefings."

The White House sought to explain. "Our goal is to make the daily briefing as useful and informative as possible for both reporters and the public," a White House spokesperson said. "Part of meeting that objective means regularly engaging with the reporters who will be in the briefing room to understand how the White House can be most helpful in getting them the information they need. That two-way conversation is an important part of keeping the American people updated about how government is serving them."

There is room for nuance here. In the old days, before President Trump and the COVID-19 pandemic, the White House almost daily held something called a "gaggle." Around 9 a.m., reporters would cram into the press secretary's office to ask questions in an on-the-record, off-camera scrum.

The gaggle served a couple of purposes: The White House could learn what interested reporters on that day and, more importantly, prepare answers for the afternoon's on-camera briefing. That way, the briefing would not be filled with the press secretary appearing to dodge questions because of lack of information.

What's more, members of the "lower press office" — where junior press aides who interact more often with reporters work — would often drop back to the media area and shoot the breeze, sometimes asking what everyone's working on. It was a chance to put a bug in their ears about a topic.

So, the White House press operation is often well aware of what reporters are working on, and the process serves both sides well: The media can get answers to their questions, and the White House can prepare those answers in advance, crafting exactly what it wants to say.

While some liberal sites and networks ignored the Beast story, Fox News discussed it at length.
