Ryan Girdusky: Lincoln Project Is Part Grift, Part Grooming Operation for John Weaver
“The Lincoln Project has always been just two things: a grift for people to make money and a grooming organization for John Weaver to meet young men to try to get them in bed,” said Ryan Girdusky, journalist and author of They’re Not Listening: How The Elites Created the National Populist Revolution, on Tuesday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow.
Girdusky broke the news that John Weaver, a co-founder of the Lincoln Project, allegedly sought sexual contact with young men in exchange for jobs in politics.
Girdusky began investigating accusations of Weaver’s sexual solicitations from young men after being followed by Weaver on Twitter.
“Within a day [of Weaver following me on Twitter], young men started coming forward and saying to me that I should be on the lookout,” Girdusky stated. “They said, ‘This is what John Weaver does. He reached out to young men like me and he says I can give you a job opportunity if you promise me sex in the end.’ It’s three young guys who reached out to me very early on.”
Girdusky added, “I was trying to find out how many people possibly know about John Weaver, and it became very abundantly clear very early on that everyone knew. If you worked politics, there was no way you did not know about John Weaver and his actions towards young men, preying on young men.”
Republican strategist and political pundit Karl Rove said on Monday that he knew of Weaver’s “pattern of behavior” since 1988.

cont.
George Conway, a co-founder of the Lincoln Project, claimed he did not know Weaver “very well” in a segment with MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski.
“It was shocking how many people knew,” Girdusky remarked. “Another very well-known household Never Trumper columnist writer [who has] been around a long time was asked to join the Lincoln Project and said, ‘No, I won’t work with John Weaver because of he’s a disgusting person. So [the idea that] the only people who did not know about John Weaver were the people in the Lincoln Project project is insane. … There was no way they did not know.”
Girdusky emphasized, “There was no way on God’s green Earth that you could have worked in professional Washington, DC, national-level politics and have not heard these rumors.”
Girdusky highlighted left-wing news media’s disinterest in the accusations against Weaver. He said, “mainstream media” has “totally ignored the topic” aside from Brzezinski inviting Conway’s remarks without asking him a question.
Girdusky said Lincoln Project members have appeared in 21 television interviews since his original report on January 11. He said, “Mainstream media never asked [Lincoln Project members], ‘Hey, what’s the story about that you co-founder using your organization to sit there and groom young men?'”
Marlow stated, “Ultimately, the real villain here is — Weaver, to a degree — but it is really the media.”
Weaver’s accusers now total over 100 young men, Girdusky observed, adding reported totals from the New York Times, Scott Stedman, and his own reporting.
“I can tell you it’s over 100 men in a five-year period,” Girdusky said. “If you add all three articles together with their different sources, it’s over 100.”
Some of the young men accusing Weaver of sexual solicitations are leftists who were reluctant to share their allegations for fear of damaging the “Never Trump” campaign, Girdusky shared.
“So many of these young men who came forward to me early on were leftists,” Girdusky explained. “Many of them were afraid to come forward because they were afraid of retribution from John Weaver, but I will say there were a few of them who said, ‘I don’t want to hurt the anti-Trump movement,’ and that’s among the victims.”
The New York Times reported, “[Weaver’s] solicitations included sending messages to a 14-year-old, asking questions about his body while he was still in high school and then more pointed ones after he turned 18.”
“The youngest boy — and it was a boy that John Weaver was reaching out to — was 14 years old when John Weaver was 57 years old,” Girdusky said. “How on Earth is that consensual?”
Girdsuky assessed the Lincoln Project’s lack of denials against his reporting as rooted in fear of litigation.
Girdusky concluded, “I think the reason that not a single member of the Lincoln Project ever try to deny anything I said publicly — nothing, they’ve never denied one thing, even when it first came out — [is that] they would never want to go to discovery, to go look through their emails, and text messages, and DMs, and everything and see what they knew when they knew it because they knew.”
The Lincoln Project raised over $87 million since its launch at the end of 2019.

Gov. Newsom’s approval rating drops to 31 percent: Poll
A new poll conducted by the University of California at Berkeley’s Institute of Governmental Studies found that Gov. Gavin Newsom's job approval rating plummeted by 18 percentage points in three months. In October, he had a 49% approval rating; in January it dropped to 31%.
Also, 36% of respondents said they support the recall effort against Newsom, which has gained popularity among Democrats.
Roughly 31% of those polled said Newsom has done an excellent or good job in handling the coronavirus, down from 49% in September. Only 22% of respondents gave a favorable response to the state’s vaccine rollout.
The poll was conducted online and included more than 10,000 registered voters. Conducted during the last week of January in both English and Spanish, it’s margin of error is +/- 2 percentage points.
The Los Angeles Times reported that “… even his political allies begin to question the actions he has taken,” which “… provides a sobering sign for the 53-year-old Democrat that his once bright political future, for years the subject of whispers about a potential White House run, has lost some of its shine.”
Last week, Tech billionaire and Democrat Chamath Palihapitiya announced his support for the recall and that he was running for governor.
On Monday, former Republican San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced he was running for governor this year, if the recall ballot measure is successful. If it isn’t, he said he will run in 2022.
“People are reevaluating how well Newsom is doing handling the pandemic," Mark DiCamillo, director of the poll, said. "Once your job performance rating starts to decline, it's more difficult to put it back in the right direction. You kind of accumulate negatives over time."
Largely at issue is the 11-month shutdown of the state by Newsom’s executive orders, among many other scandals that have occurred at state agencies, record high unemployment and job losses, still shuttered schools, and the first in California’s history of a recorded population decline.
Among those polled, respondents were nearly evenly split over whether Newsom’s stay-at-home orders and guidelines for businesses slowed the spread of the coronavirus. About 49 percent said they had little, if any, impact, while 47 percent said they had a major, or at least some, impact.
When asked about the recall, respondents were split along party lines. Democrats oppose recalling Newsom by 69 percent; 20 percent said they were undecided about the recall; 84 percent of Republicans polled supported the recall with 9 percent undecided.
Among Independents and "No Party Preference" voters polled, 40 percent said they opposed the recall, 32 percent said they supported it, 28 percent said they were undecided.
Overall, 36 percent of those polled support recalling Newsom, whereas 45 percent oppose it. The poll also found that 49 percent said a recall election would be bad for California, whereas 36 percent said it would be good for the state.
The recall website claims to have collected 1.3 million voter signatures of the 1.495 million needed. The Los Angeles Times reports that among them only roughly 410,000 signatures had been verified by elections officials as of last month.

Supreme Court Cancels Arguments on Border Wall, Asylum Policy
The U.S. Supreme Court canceled scheduled arguments over asylum rules and the Mexican border wall after the Biden administration said it is moving to change the Trump administration policies at the center of the disputes.
The court was scheduled to hear arguments Feb. 22 on former President Donald Trump’s use of a national-emergency declaration to spend $2.5 billion on wall construction using money appropriated for other purposes. President Joe Biden ordered construction halted hours after being inaugurated.
The other case, which had been set for argument March 1, concerns a policy that has forced almost 70,000 asylum-seekers to stay in Mexico while their applications are being processed. Under Biden, the Department of Homeland Security has stopped adding new people into the so-called Migrant Protection Protocols program, though the administration hasn’t changed the status of previous asylum applicants or lifted pandemic-related restrictions at the border.

'U.S. Senate energy committee votes 13-4 to approve nomination of Granholm to head Energy Department
The U.S. Senate Energy Committee voted 13-4 on Wednesday to approve the nomination of former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm to head the Energy Department.
Granholm, 61, wants to steer the department to help the United States compete with China on electric vehicles and green technologies like advanced batteries and solar and wind power. Senator John Barrasso, a Republican from fossil fuel producing Wyoming, expressed concerns that President Joe Biden’s push to curb climate change would threaten thousands of jobs in coal, gas and oil, and voted against Granholm.

Former CIA Officer: Treat Domestic Extremism As An Insurgency
When it comes to domestic extremists such as those who stormed the Capitol, a longtime CIA officer argues that the U.S. should treat them as an insurgency.
That means using counterinsurgency tactics — similar in some ways to those used in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Robert Grenier served as the CIA's station chief for Pakistan and Afghanistan in 2001. He went on to become the CIA's Iraq mission manager and then director of the CIA Counterterrorism Center from 2004 to 2006.
"We may be witnessing the dawn of a sustained wave of violent insurgency within our own country, perpetrated by our own countrymen," Grenier wrote in The New York Times last week. And without national action, he argues, "extremists who seek a social apocalypse … are capable of producing endemic political violence of a sort not seen in this country since Reconstruction."
In an interview with All Things Considered, Grenier discusses what that national action would mean.

Daimler to split in two companies, Daimler Truck to focus on EV, self-driving
Germany's Daimler AG DAI, 9.02%, the company behind well-known auto brands such as Mercedes Benz and truck and bus makers Freightliner and Thomas Built, said Wednesday it plans to split into two standalone companies, spinning off Daimler Truck, which will focus on electric vehicles and self-driving. The other part of the business will be renamed Mercedes-Benz "at the appropriate time," the company said, and aim to be the "world's preeminent luxury car business, committed to leading in electric drive and car software," it said. Daimler Truck "will accelerate its path towards zero emissions as the world's largest truck and bus producer and technology leader," Daimler said. The company's board will start preparing for listing Daimler Truck on the Frankfurt stock exchange, with the intention that "a significant majority stake in Daimler Truck will be distributed to Daimler shareholders," it said. The two sides of the business "will be able to operate most effectively as independent entities, equipped with strong net liquidity and free from the constraints of a conglomerate structure," said Ola Källenius, chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler and Mercedes-Benz, in a statement. Daimler stock rose 7% after the news.

House Republicans Tie Biden Commerce Pick to Huawei Stance
Updated on February 3, 2021, 3:31 AM EST
Several House Republicans are asking their Senate counterparts to delay the confirmation of Gina Raimondo for Commerce secretary until President Joe Biden clarifies whether he supports keeping Huawei Technologies Co. on a restricted trade list.
Led by Texas Representative Michael McCaul, the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the group released a statement Tuesday highlighting the threat they say the Chinese technology company poses to national security. McCaul said while he agrees that the president should be able to pick his own cabinet, and the confirmation process is up to the Senate, removing Huawei from the Commerce Department’s “Entity List” is an issue that the nominee should clarify before moving ahead.
“The fact that the Biden Administration has still refused to commit to keeping Huawei on the Department of Commerce’s Entity List is incredibly alarming and dangerous,” the House Republicans said in the statement. “We urge those Senators who have a history of calling for Huawei to remain on the Entity List to stick to their principles and place a hold on Ms. Raimondo’s confirmation until the Biden Administration clarifies their intentions for Huawei and on export control policies for a country that is carrying out genocide and threatening our national security.” …

Denmark to pioneer digital vaccine passports to restart normal life
Denmark’s government has said digital vaccine passports will be used “in three, four months” to restart life in the country. And by the end of February, Danes can check their status online and print off their vaccination certs.
Speaking in Copenhagen on Wednesday, Finance Minister Morten Bodskov said Danish companies needed to get back on track to kickstart the nation’s economy – and a digital vaccine passport was a key part of that.
“It will be the extra passport that you will be able to have on your mobile phone that documents that you have been vaccinated,” Bodskov said. “We can be among the first in the world to have it and can show it to the rest of the world.”
The government plans to work with business bodies like the Confederation of Danish Industries, which represents Denmark’s major companies, and the Danish Chamber of Commerce to get the new system into place.
Bodskov said society needed to “move on” once people had been vaccinated.
“It’s about finding the right technological solution so that we can get opportunities in cultural life and Danish society, and so that those who have to travel, for example on business, will also have a chance to do so,” he said.
The finance minister stressed, however, that other requirements such as social distancing and mask wearing would not be replaced by the digital passports.
Similar digital passport schemes are being planned to help travelers avoid quarantine imposed to help prevent the spread of Covid-19. The European Commission is looking at issuing vaccination certificates while Belgium, Cyprus, Greece and Spain have expressed interest in similar passport plans. On Tuesday, Estonia said it would permit travelers arriving into the country who showed proof of vaccination to avoid its quarantine requirements.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said in January it was opposed “for the time being” to the introduction of certificates of vaccine passports as there were “too many fundamental unknowns” about the effectiveness of jabs.
Opponents say vaccine passports endanger the rights of Europeans by dividing people into categories based on health status, denying access to public services to the non-vaccinated and opening the door to health tracking that violates individuals’ privacy rights.

AOC Wasn't Even in the Capitol Building During Her 'Near Death' Experience
We’ve reported various aspects of the account of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) of what happened to her on Jan. 6 during the breach at the Capitol. But there are some very critical facts that have been missing from her story that I wanted to talk about here.
The story, as it was initially related by AOC, suggested that she was about to be assassinated by rioters in her office in a video that has been viewed over 6 million times.
This was one of the most heartbreaking moments of AOC’s IG live pic.twitter.com/BumKbriwmy
— grant 🧔🏻 (@urdadssidepiece) February 2, 2021
Newsweek even claimed that’s what AOC said.
Ocasio-Cortez said that rioters actually entered her office, forcing her to take refuge inside her bathroom after her legislative director Geraldo Bonilla-Chavez told her to “hide, hide, run and hide.”
“And so I run back into my office,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I slam my door. There’s another kind of like back area to my office, and I open it, and there’s a closet and a bathroom. And I jump into my bathroom.”
As it turns out, however, as my colleague Bonchie reported earlier, AOC said in her Instagram drama that the person who came to her office was a Capitol Police officer. But she denigrated the officer who came to help, claiming he “didn’t feel right” and that he was looking at her “in all of this anger and hostility.” Her staffer reportedly wondered if he would have to fight the officer and suggested that he might put them in a “vulnerable situation.”
.@AOC describes a Capitol Police officer bursting into her office, says his presence “didn’t feel right” and that he was looking at her “in all of this anger and hostility.” Her staffer reportedly wondered if he would have to fight the officer. pic.twitter.com/LCj2JmmFP6
— Mary Margaret Olohan (@MaryMargOlohan) February 2, 2021
So, basically, this story is about hyping the danger to the members and trying to say people still have to fear those inconsiderate uncaring police (even when they’re coming to help you). She’s even been called out by folks on the left for the effort to demonize the officer and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), as my colleague Sister Toldjah observed.
But a few important things to note that seem to have been left out of this whole story.
AOC wasn’t even in the Capitol building where all the action was going down. If she was in her office, she was in the Cannon Building which is nearby, but a different building. But of course, many didn’t get the logistics and just assumed that she was in the Capitol building.
According to Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), who has an office in the same hall as AOC, two doors away, there were never any rioters in their hall so there was never any physical danger from rioters coming in at any point.
.@AOC made clear she didn’t know who was at her door. Breathless attempts by media to fan fictitious news flames are dangerous.
My office is 2 doors down. Insurrectionists never stormed our hallway. Egregious doesn’t even begin to cover it. Is there nothing MSM won’t politicize? pic.twitter.com/Tl1GiPSOft
— Rep. Nancy Mace (@RepNancyMace) February 2, 2021
AOC’s building appears to have been briefly evacuated during the day as police checked on a nearby suspicious package that was later cleared.
So her “near-death experience” was an overreaction to a Capitol Police officer knocking on her door to direct her to another building, the Longworth Building, where she then stayed in the office of Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA). Instead of thanking the officer, she paints him as somehow a possible danger of which to be afraid. The Capitol Police were likely trying to evacuate the building quickly, it’s possible the officer was focused on getting people out quickly so likely didn’t have time for all the niceties.

Hungary follows Poland in taking on Big Tech ‘censors’
Viktor Orban’s ministers fight social media platforms over ‘limits on Christian, conservative, rightwing opinions’
Hungary and Poland intend to take measures against social media companies to fight what they believe is bias against conservatives.
Judit Varga, Hungary’s justice minister, announced last week in the wake of former US president Donald Trump’s permanent expulsion from Facebook and Twitter that the hardline government of premier Viktor Orban would not tolerate intrusions on free speech. Earlier in January, Poland’s conservative-nationalist administration proposed legislation that would make it possible for social media companies to be fined for removing posts that do not break Polish law.
The announcements were made as the EU struggles to adopt a co-ordinated approach to policing social media content. While many western European countries are trying to fight the dissemination of violent far-right or extremist religion-based rhetoric, eastern European states say they are intent on combating what Ms Varga called “deliberate, ideological” censorship on social media.
In a recent post on Facebook, Ms Varga said she intended to submit a bill in the spring to “regulate the domestic operations of large tech companies”.
“Today anyone can be disconnected from the online space without the possibility of any formal, transparent, fair procedure and legal remedy,” she wrote. She alleged in an earlier post that she had been “shadow banned” by Facebook, which is a term used to describe cases in which the visibility of an account’s social media posts is reduced without explanation or official reason.
Ms Varga also complained that mainstream social media sites “limit the visibility of Christian, conservative, rightwing opinions” and accused “power groups behind global tech giants” of having the power to decide elections. Mr Orban, who enjoys a parliamentary supermajority, faces parliamentary elections in 2022 that are expected to be the most fiercely contested since he returned to power in 2010.
Poland has already proposed concrete measures to fight against perceived anti-rightwing bias. Users who have had posts removed or their accounts blocked will be able to appeal to a body called the Free Speech Council to have their content reinstated. If social media companies are deemed to have removed posts or blocked accounts that are not illegal and refuse to reinstate them, they could face fines of up to 50m zloty (€11m).
Sebastian Kaleta, Poland’s deputy justice minister, said the legislation was necessary to ensure that social media groups did not remove posts simply because they disagreed with them.
“We see that anonymous social media moderators often censor opinions which do not violate the law but are just criticism of leftists’ agenda. This creates important risks of infringing freedom of speech,” he told the Financial Times.
“We are trying to protect our citizens from censorship on social media. [Social media groups] should delete only content which is illegal. Only a competent authority may decide what does or does not violate the law.”
Mr Kaleta said that in his opinion the moves by Facebook and Twitter to block the accounts of Mr Trump after his supporters stormed the Capitol in January were “a form of censorship”. But he said that this had not had any impact on the Polish government’s plans and that it had been working on the proposed bill since the beginning of 2020.
Poland’s government, like Hungary’s, has itself been accused of presiding over a sustained decline in media freedom. Critics say that the main state broadcaster has been reduced to a government mouthpiece, while last year a scandal erupted over the alleged censorship of a song criticising the ruling Law and Justice party’s leader, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, on a public radio station. In December, Orlen, a state-controlled refining group, bought up 20 of Poland’s 24 regional newspapers.
However, Mateusz Morawiecki, Poland’s prime minister, said the proposed changes were necessary because social media groups had increasingly “introduced their own standards of political correctness, and they fight those who oppose them”.

“The censoring of free speech, once the domain of totalitarian and authoritarian regimes, is now back, but in a new form, run by corporations, who silence those who think differently,” he wrote on Facebook last month. “Discussion consists in the exchange of views, not in silencing people. We do not have to agree with what our opponents write, but we cannot forbid anyone from expressing views that do not contravene the law.”
EU officials are worried that member states, including France and Germany, are enacting their own version of the digital rules that Brussels regulators are seeking to introduce for the bloc as a whole.
Margrethe Vestager, the European Commission’s executive vice-president in charge of digital policy, has urged online platforms to get behind Brussels’ proposed legislation or risk having to grapple with an uneven patchwork of national laws.
She told the FT: “I think that is really a very strong argument to say to the platforms: ‘Well, you either have this or you would have a completely fragmented European legal system.’”
Last month regulators published two pieces of draft legislation aimed at clarifying the role Big Tech has when policing the internet and at curbing its growing power amid concerns that large online platforms such as Google and Facebook have become “too big to care”.
Ms Varga said that while Hungary “continues to co-operate to prepare the EU’s regulation [on social media], recent events have shown that we need to move faster to protect people”.

Lindsey Graham threatens Democrats: If you call even one witness for impeachment trial, we’ll open up 'Pandora's box'
He threatened to call the FBI to testify
Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.) warned Democratic colleagues Monday night that if they decide to call even one witness in the Senate's upcoming impeachment trial against former President Trump, they'll be opening up "Pandora's Box."
Last month, the Democrat-controlled House voted to impeach Trump a second time for "incitement of insurrection" after a mob of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 while Congress was in session. The process has now moved to the Senate, where a trial is set to begin next week.
Graham, the outgoing chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, expressed that he looks forward to a speedy trial and acquittal of Trump. But he noted that should Democrats choose to turn it into a "political commercial" and prolong the business for "weeks and months" by calling witnesses, Republicans are prepared to play ball by calling the FBI to testify about security failures at the U.S. Capitol.
"If you open up that can of worms [by calling witnesses], we'll want the FBI to come in and tell us about how people actually pre-planned these attacks and what happened with the security footprint at the Capitol," Graham said.
"You open up Pandora's box if you call one witness," he continued. "I hope we don't call any and we vote and get this trial over next week when it starts."
Lindsey Graham repeats his warning not to call witnesses during the trial. He says if Democrats vote to call a sing… https://t.co/PpWSE4a8qQ
— Acyn Torabi (@Acyn Torabi)1612226807.0
With the trial's Feb. 9 start date looming, Reuters reported Monday that the House Democrats in charge of impeachment proceedings in the Senate are expected to announce whether or not they will call witnesses by as early as Tuesday.
Democrats are expected to face an uphill climb toward a conviction, especially after 45 of the GOP's 50 senators voted in a procedural motion to object to impeachment proceedings last week, leading Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) to call the prospect "dead on arrival." Democrats would need at least 17 GOP senators to declare Trump guilty in order to garner the two-thirds vote required to convict.
Nevertheless, Trump, for his part, is currently assembling a legal defense and preparing a formal response to the charges. A conviction in the Senate will mean rather little, politically, since Trump has already exited office. However, a vote to impeach could open the potential for a vote to bar him from seeking public office in the future.

THE DICK ACT OF 1902 — GUN CONTROL IS FORBIDDEN
The Dick Act of 1902 also known as the Efficiency of Militia Bill H.R. 11654, of June 28, 1902 invalidates all so-called gun-control laws. It also divides the militia into three distinct and separate entities.
The three classes H.R. 11654 provides for are the organized militia, henceforth known as the National Guard of the State, Territory and District of Columbia, the unorganized militia and the regular army. The militia encompasses every able-bodied male between the ages of 18 and 45. All members of the unorganized militia have the absolute personal right and 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms of any type, and as many as they can afford to buy.
The Dick Act of 1902 cannot be repealed; to do so would violate bills of attainder and ex post facto laws which would be yet another gross violation of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The President of the United States has zero authority without violating the Constitution to call the National Guard to serve outside of their State borders.
The National Guard Militia can only be required by the National Government for limited purposes specified in the Constitution (to uphold the laws of the Union; to suppress insurrection and repel invasion). These are the only purposes for which the General Government can call upon the National Guard.
Attorney General Wickersham advised President Taft, “the Organized Militia (the National Guard) can not be employed for offensive warfare outside the limits of the United States.”
The Honorable William Gordon, in a speech to the House on Thursday, October 4, 1917, proved that the action of President Wilson in ordering the Organized Militia (the National Guard) to fight a war in Europe was so blatantly unconstitutional that he felt Wilson ought to have been impeached.
During the war with England an attempt was made by Congress to pass a bill authorizing the president to draft 100,000 men between the ages of 18 and 45 to invade enemy territory, Canada. The bill was defeated in the House by Daniel Webster on the precise point that Congress had no such power over the militia as to authorize it to empower the President to draft them into the regular army and send them out of the country.
The fact is that the President has no constitutional right, under any circumstances, to draft men from the militia to fight outside the borders of the USA, and not even beyond the borders of their respective states. Today, we have a constitutional LAW which still stands in waiting for the legislators to obey the Constitution which they swore an oath to uphold.

House to vote Thursday to drop Greene from all committees
House Democratic leaders are gearing up to vote Thursday on legislation stripping Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) of her committee spots — unless Republican leaders do it first.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) spoke with his counterpart, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), about Greene's fate Wednesday morning, with Hoyer suggesting afterwards that the GOP leader is not ready to remove the controversial conservative firebrand from a pair of top committees.
"I spoke to Leader McCarthy this morning, and it is clear there is no alternative to holding a Floor vote on the resolution to remove Rep. Greene from her committee assignments," Hoyer said in a statement. "The Rules Committee will meet this afternoon, and the House will vote on the resolution tomorrow."
The proposal, sponsored by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), would remove Greene from two plum committee assignments — Budget, and Education and Labor — for the remainder of this Congress.
McCarthy, the House Republican leader, had huddled with Greene in his office in the Capitol on Tuesday evening. Afterwards, McCarthy hosted a second meeting with the GOP Steering and Policy Committee to discuss Greene's fate. No decisions were made, but leaders are expected to meet again on Wednesday, and the full Republican conference also has a planned gathering at 4 p.m, when the topic is sure to be a major focus.
Hoyer has already spoken with McCarthy about Greene at least once this week. Democratic leaders remain in the dark about how McCarthy will proceed, according to a Democratic leadership aide, but they're insisting that GOP leaders remove Greene from both committees, or Democrats will take that step themselves by moving the Wasserman Schultz bill.
"He needs to take similar action to what he took against Steve King," the aide said, citing Hoyer's message to Democrats on the caucus call.
Two years ago, McCarthy had stripped King of his committee assignments after the Iowa Republican defended white supremacy in an interview with The New York Times. King was defeated in his GOP primary last year and is no longer in Congress.
The uproar surrounding Greene has been even more heated, after reports emerged that the first-term conservative firebrand had posted a series of violent and racist messages on social media in recent years. The list of controversial posts includes an adherence to the QAnon conspiracy theory and the endorsement of calls to assassinate prominent Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.).

Meet The Hedge Fund That Made A Killing On The Reddit-Fueled Squeeze
The unfortunate reality of Wall Street is that, sooner or later, we knew that hedge fund players would emerge who capitalized on the Reddit-fueled squeezes of the last two weeks.
One such fund was Jason Mudrick’s hedge fund. Mudrick Capital Management made almost $200 million, fueled by stakes in names that squeezed higher during the GameStop frenzy, according to Bloomberg. His fund made 9.8% in January, one of the best months since the fund's inception. Most of its gains came from debt and equity options in AMC and volatility bets in GameStop.
The fund has $3.1 billion under management and booked most of its gains last week. It also sold about $50 million worth of out of the money call options on AMC, the report says. Back in September, AMC had "signed a commitment letter with Mudrick Capital that called for the hedge fund to buy $100 million of new secured bonds that pay 15% cash or 17% deferred interest," the report notes.
Mudrick bought AMC's second-lien bonds for 7 to 20 cents on the dollar, before they rose to about 70 cents on the dollar last week.
His firm specializes in distressed debt investments and is in the process of expanding further into Europe. It recently bought a credit hedge fund run by CVC Credit Partners.
As we have already noted, Silver Lake also saw about $113 million in gains from converting AMC debt it was holding to stock, before selling the stock into the rally.
Many other funds, including several of the "Tiger Cubs" weren't so lucky, Bloomberg noted. Numerous firms with ties to Julian Robertson's Tiger Management racked up losses during the run up:
-Glen Kacher’s Light Street Capital Management lost 13% last month
-Steve Mandel’s Lone Pine Capital dropped 6.4%.
-Coatue Management ended the month little changed
-Chase Coleman’s Tiger Global Management eked out a 1% gain
-Rob Citrone’s Discovery Capital Management, a macro-focused fund, jumped 6.5% for the month
-Ricky Sandler’s $7.8 billion Eminence Capital fell 10.5% last month in his hedge fund
-Whale Rock Capital Management sunk almost 11% in its technology, media and telecommunications-focused fund
-Marshall Wace’s $4.4 billion long-short MW Global Opportunities Fund slumped an estimated 7% in January, its worst-ever monthly decline.

Record Muni-Bond Sales Surge Fueled by Borrowing for Budget Gaps
The federal government isn’t the only one running up debt to cover its budget deficits.
As states and cities braced for pandemic-related shutdowns to batter tax collections, many turned to the municipal-bond market to soften the hit, contributing to a record-setting surge in debt sales last year. According to an analysis by Municipal Market Analytics, at least one quarter of state and local government debt sales over $100 million included some element of deficit financing in the second half of 2020.
Such deficit borrowing is relatively rare for state and local governments, which are typically required to balance their budgets each year and often need lawmakers’ approval to issue debt to cover everyday bills. But the severity of the economic slowdown last year combined with a steep drop in interest rates made that a more attractive option than cutting spending deeply amid an unprecedented pandemic. Among those who sold debt to plug deficits were New Jersey, which issued $3.7 billion of bonds to ease tax-revenue shortfalls, and Illinois, which tapped the Federal Reserve’s emergency credit line.
Such deficit borrowing may ebb. The budget deficits governments anticipated in the middle of last year haven’t been as severe as initially projected, giving some a temporary surplus of cash. At the same time, the Democrats who control Congress are likely to include aid for local governments in the next economic stimulus package, something Republicans opposed when they held the Senate last year.

Dubai has announced the creation of a Space Court in order to settle off planet commercial disputes.
Dubai announced Monday the creation of a “space court” to settle commercial disputes, as the UAE – which is also sending a probe to Mars – builds its presence in the space sector.
The tribunal will be based at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts, an independent British-inspired arbitration centre based on common law.
His Excellency Zaki Azmi, Chief Justice, DIFC Courts, said: “An integrated space industry, supported by human resources, infrastructure, and scientific research, is under way.
The Courts of Space is a global initiative that will operate in parallel, helping to build a new judicial support network to serve the stringent commercial demands of international space exploration in the 21st century.
As space commerce becomes ever more global and countries ever more connected, diverse, and nimble economies will need to enable growth.
Complex commercial agreements will also require an equally innovative judicial system to keep pace, offering assurance and certainty to support and protect businesses.”
Space law is governed by international conventions and resolutions, including the UN Outer Space Treaty which entered into force in 1967. Several states have also signed bilateral or multilateral agreements to regulate their space activities.

Why ARE coronavirus cases plummeting? New infections have fallen 44% in the US and 30% globally in the past 3 weeks and experts say vaccine is NOT the main driver because only 8% of Americans and 13% people worldwide have received their first dose
On Wednesday, a total of 110,679 new coronavirus infections were reported with a seven-day rolling average of 135,904, a 44% decline from the average three weeks earlier
The decline appears to be a global phenomenon, with new infections falling worldwide for the past three weeks in a row, the World Health Organization said Monday
Hospitalizations have fallen nearly 30% from a peak of of 132,474 on January 6 to 92,880, the lowest figure seen since November 29
Currently, 44 states are seeing a decline in cases with just Alabama, Louisiana, Montana, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania trending upward, according to Johns Hopkins data
California's 21,451 new confirmed cases on Tuesday are about one-third the mid-December peak of 54,000
New York recorded 8,215 new infections on Tuesday, down from the record-high of 19,942 new cases reported on January 15
Health experts say it is too soon for vaccines to be playing a major role in the decline with just 8% of the population having received the first shot and fewer than 2% being fully immunized
Officials say the drop is likely due to a higher number of people who've had the virus than official counts suggest, as many as 90 million people, and fewer people traveling than did over the winter holidays

THE RESISTANCE: North Dakota Legislators Plan To Nullify Biden’s Executive Orders At State Level
New legislation would mandate that the State of North Dakota ignore executive orders coming from the Biden administration that are unconstitutional
Republican legislators in North Dakota are taking a pro-active – and constitutional – step to push back against unconstitutional executive orders coming out of the Biden administration, and they are doing so with the power of the US Constitution in their corner.
A new bill introduced in the North Dakota State Legislature (HB1164), would instruct the state’s Attorney General to review the constitutionality of each of the executive orders issued by Joe Biden.
Under the proposed law, should the North Dakota Attorney General find that any executive orders are unlawful – or unconstitutional, the executive order would be “nullified,” it would prohibit any state, county, or local agency – or publicly funded organization – from enforcing the order(s).
The proposed legislation was introduced by State Rep. Tom Kading (R), and eight other Republicans in the North Dakota House.
Specifically, the proposed HB1164, enumerates the following issues for nullification:
Pandemics or other health emergencies
The regulation of natural resources, including coal and oil
The regulation of the agriculture industry
The use of land
The regulation of the financial sector as it relates to environmental, social, or governance standards
The regulation of the constitutional right to keep and bear arms
Additionally, State Rep. Sebastian Ertelt (R), has introduced legislation that would affect the same fate to unconstitutional legislation coming out of the Federal Legislative Branch.
Ertelt’s HB1282 would create a “Committee on Neutralization of Federal Laws.”
This committee, comprised of state legislative leadership and their appointees, would recommend whether a given Federal law or regulation is unconstitutional. Should the committee find that a law or regulation is unconstitutional, the North Dakota Legislature would pass a concurrent resolution on whether to nullify the transgressing law or edict.
After the committee’s recommendation – and until the resolution is passed, state, county, and local agencies would be prohibited from enforcing the law or regulation.
These proposed laws are in a good position to be codified. North Dakota Republicans control the Senate 40 to 7, and the House 80 to14.

His Dad
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_L._Huber
David L. Huber is an American attorney who is the retired United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky.[1]
Huber was nominated by President George W. Bush and he was confirmed by the United States Senate on December 9, 2003.[1] Prior to his confirmation, he was an Assistant United States Attorney specializing in civil defensive litigation.
Huber was born in Louisville and received a BA in Political Science from the University of Louisville where he became a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He also earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law in 1968.
Huber began his legal practice in Louisville where he was an associate with Fred M. Goldberg. While practicing with Mr. Goldberg, he had a general civil practice and tried his first civil jury trial in Shelby Circuit Court. He later became a legislative assistant and later chief legislative assistant to former U.S. Senator Marlow Cook.
In 1978, Huber was appointed by Jefferson County Judge/Executive Mitch McConnell as Jefferson County Government's Chief Administrative Officer, where for seven years he served as the county's chief operating officer with responsibility for the executive departments such as police, corrections, and others, including the budget and personnel, in the implementation of county services.
Huber also held legal and executive positions with two Louisville companies. After leaving Jefferson County Government, he became Second Vice President and Director of Government Relations and Compliance with the former Capital Holding Corporation (Providian), a diversified insurance and financial services company and then was vice president and general counsel of the Old Glenmore Distilleries Company, a spirits and wine company.
Before returning to the United States Attorney's Office in 1991, he was general counsel to U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell.
Huber retired on January 31, 2009.[1]
Upon leaving the U.S. Senate, he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Western District of Kentucky for five and a half years as a criminal prosecutor and civil trial attorney. In those positions, Huber had extensive litigation experience in both civil and criminal cases and Grand Jury investigations. Huber received the Commissioner's Special Citation, United States Food and Drug Administration, in recognition of distinguished performance in litigation.
