I have an awful suspicion it's technical incompetence, lack of skill (24 FPS means half the work, unlike 30 or even 60 where you need to pay more attention to each frame), or even maximum jewery (DVD will have higher FPS).

What the heck happened to the hair in this show? Seriously, look at Emerald and Mercury!

I presumed from the final episode of volume 3 that Cinder merely wasn't told the significance of silver eyes given the low probability of her running into someone who possessed them. But there the bad guys are discussing having dealt with silver-eyed warriors in the past. Ruby literally ran into Cinder in the 2nd chapter of volume 2, they stood about a foot from each other, and from the way Cinder looked at Ruby I thought something would come of it. Held off on counting this against the series before but now its a gaping plot hole. Cinder having known a silver-eyed was present and not taking steps to eliminate her is too much to overlook.

That quality that lets you know you're looking at a special character. They work right under the boss, who has some oddities about her design too, but they look like generic thugs/flunkies. Not even mid-bosses, really. Definitely need to see the concept art to determine if something was lost in translation from 2D to 3D. Port & Oobleck had a bit of silliness in design and personality so it worked for them, but these guys just seem… off. And I hope Tyrion meets the same fate as those weasels from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".

A conversation about what they're called? Wouldn't this be a conversation they'd have had in the 6-8 months they'd been travelling. I'm almost certain it would've happened before they got off of Patch. They're no longer in school so its not even necessary. Ren was better when he spoke less. Really was hoping never to hear that "landing strategy" silliness again, since it only reminds you that Jaune "writer's pet" Arc is still here. We have a huge new Grimm with a weakness so obvious it may as well be an 8-bit videogame boss and somehow no one but Jaune, who has the least combat experience of them all, is the only one who can spot it. They did the same thing with the sniper during the tournament arc. Everbody has to be painfully oblivious for Jaune "scene sucker" Arc to look good. Changed my mind, no longer do I wish for him to be devoured by a Giant Squirrel Grimm, a regular-sized scurry of Grimm squirrels would be better. Regarding Nora, that was truly a thick-thighed run if I've ever seen one, and her hammer strikes don't convey power anymore. The whole fight was another instance of introduce new Grimm and defeat it quickly to remind the audience that the Grimm don't really matter. No real danger here folks.

How is there anything left of that village if that Geist had been plaguing it for weeks? The damage it did in a fight with 4 hunters in training was considerable. What was it doing, just sitting outside the village daring them all to come out?

Why the hell is Jaune acting like the upgraded armour is a gift? He would've had to work for it, trade for it, or pay for it. Instead of whining about a forgotten map just turn back and get one. You haven't even left town yet.

With this intro we see, from where the color streaks stop, that Yang is still on Patch, Weiss is in Atlas, Blake is back in Menagerie, And RNJR has arrived on the continent of Onyma(?) but have a ways to go before reaching the Kingdom of Mistral.

I didn't want to believe that they changed Adam's combat style when he appeared in Vol. 3 but here he is waving his sword around ineffectively. He used battojutsu/iaijutsu in the Black trailer, smooth and efficient, always returning his sword to its scabbard after a strike and only delayed doing so if he was firing the gun/scabbard.

They're constantly breaking the rhythm because the Grimm, which pursued Ruby over a cliff at the start, is now content to stand in one place and wait for the hunters to attack him. And they're too in love with the reaction shots (that started last volume) which breaks the pace of the action even more.

Having watched this, I can say that the storytelling has gone up, actually being halfway coherent this time. Animation has gone down however, in terms of the action part. They use a lot of short cuts with rather bland movement and a sloth of a camera, basically from John Woo to typical Hollywood action cutting to hide incompetent choreography. Hence why >>28681 complains; see embed related for more to explain the difference. With Hollywood soundtrack #8932 with it too, not that American JPop blaring was better. Even if I didn't find Oum's animation for the show impressive (his best work was on RvB), it was way better than what RT is offering now.

Tbh I actually prefer this, I'll rather get a coherent story over good animation with a crappy story. I like that there's some form of tactics in battles instead of characters doing fucking whatever just because.

Still, improving from "super-fucking horrible" to "meh and cut-and-paste" isn't impressive. We're just left with a bland show that's unique only by the merit that it's an "independent" web show.

Guess they saw him as another Velvet?

Fuck, this scene ruined the episode with MORE unintentional incompetence. My idea of an anti-Huntsman force employed by the SDC becomes more plausible by the second. Just watch a Huntsman deal with a flashbang.

Nothing about the video makes ANY sense if you think about how it was supposedly taken in the past. I'm not too sure about the school in the background (retarded memory), but why would Pyrrha just record herself standing in one place, staring at the camera the whole time, when she's coaching Jaune in private? And then how did Jaune get this video? Why can't we hear Jaune training in the background or any comments he made in the past? How could she make these kinds of comments if she actually recorded this like an actual instructional video? If this was when she was somewhere else and the video is a recording of a private teleconference between the two, again, why did Jaune stay silent the whole time?

Arrrrrgh, Miles and Kerry don't give a shit about internal logic or consistency, they just want to force FEELZ REELZ moments down our throats and count on the audience being braindead.

Personally, what makes the animation feel inorganic to me is that there's no cloth folding, which is more prominent in 2D animation. It makes the characters look even more like wooden puppets. But then again, they're just using mocap instead of organically coming up from scratch how a character should act, unless they changed along the way, in which case they still suck ass at making characters look alive.

Right! I can get him watching an old sparring video of the pair of them, and practicing off that. I can even get him just watching them goofing off like teenagers do. Pyrah can still say something ironic/heart-breaking in hindsight, but the video she recorded gives no signs this was during the period she knew about the maiden and was contemplating what to do.

I agree with the animation 101 bit tho. That's the issue. If they were doing what they did, there'd be tones of tiny split-second flourishes and micromovements that fit the character and world. Immediately evoking grace or clumsyness, surefooted or paniced, light on their feet or clubfooted.

Right now they're so basic you could take the movements and put them onto any character in the show and it'd still fit. No one moves like Ruby, or Jaune, or Weiss. Everyone moves like background character.

How the fuck can you go from "crap with interesting fights" to "boring"? I'd have thought even if the team had taken animation tutorials, their own style would have still rubbed off- or trying to evoke other animators styles.

Even when it comes to mocap- the guy doing Roman's voice would use props and stuff to help get into character more. They aren't acting when they mo-cap anymore. "Just walk over there". Fucking hire actors the same build as the characters, and get them to act the scene out in mo-cap. Remember how crazy-ass Kojima hired a ballerina/martial artist to do non-action based mo-cap to make a character appear more graceful even in casual movement? Do that!

Get Blaine or Tyler to mocap muscular characters, get Gavin or Risinger to mocap gangly characters etc.

I can go on and on about the problems in the episode, but let's focus on the Blake fight scene with the aquatic Grimm.

Terrible, terrible cutting, which again brings up the analogy of RT being Hollywood and not caring about getting action scenes right. Okay, so Blake uses her Semblance to create a clone to fling herself forward. WHY WOULD YOU CUT IT MIDSWING? At least cut it after she finishes the action. Then she fires her weapon at the Grimm's back. It abruptly cuts to the Grimm getting hit in the face. The intention was obviously to imply that Blake fired in an arc toward the head, but not enough time and effort were dedicated to making sure the continuity between the two shots carried across properly, and it comes off as lazy. Later, the only indicator we have of Blake landing on the deck is a really brief shot of her leg showing up in the corner of a frame. Not catching that would give off the impression that Blake teleported there, not that whatever offscreen motion Blake would have made back towards ground would have been remotely realistic.

Oum's scenes always had a sense of flow and allowed the viewers to keep track where characters were in time and space; RT's disjointed editing mess is nowhere close to upholding that quality.

They don't want to examine what it means for families to have a child choose to be a huntsman. What does a society that accepts this fate for its progeny look like? We get flashes of it, like when Torchwick (gone too soon) was smacking Ruby around on the airship, essentially telling her that her fate is to die fruitlessly. Ironwood was trying to tackle the problem head on but that got sidetracked when P.E.N.N.Y. got axed at the tournament. After a disappointing start, back in volume 1, I thought that Miles&Kerry understood it when Ozpin told the students (before flinging them off a cliff), "Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path… or you will die." But that darkness never really manifested because RT kept saying they didn't know who the audience for the show was. Like most Youtube content, It's free entertainment. It's the equivalent of a smartphone game. Who cares if it's just "OK", you got it for free. It's a time waster. It's white noise.

Unless they say something damning (and even then they can just fire the guy/gal that said it), I imagine we'll see a situation similar to Screw Attack or the Nostalgia Critic. As their audience gets older, more and more leave over time. And since they are a shadow of their former selves, the new kids won't be interested since it looks like everything else, and they'll gravitate toward the people who have more "popularity". But even then, people are subbed to RT for more than RWBY. I think we'll see the view-count go down on RWBY, but Camp Camp, On The Spot which has sucked ass lately, and a few other shows will stay.

I keep thinking Raven is gonna wind up being Ruby's Mom- but then I remembered the strange hooded woman is her mom.

What we know so far:

- Crowe and Raven don't just do TRIBE training, but also go to Beacon because [reasons].

- STRQ formed- Raven and Taiyang hook up. Yang is born.

- Raven has to leave (possibly for THE TRIBE) team splits up. Tai falls for Summer. Ruby is born.

- Summer dies.

My guesses (not necessarily all in the series):

- Raven and Crowe left/fled the TRIBE, and went to Beacon. Raven was originally much happier and jolly. Not like Ruby or Yang, probably like Weiss was in Season 3. Some terrible event made her colder (Summer's death? Even though she's the ex's new wife) and went back to the TRIBE and took the their teachings to heart. The event that shook her helped reinforce "the strong should survive" attitude.

- Taiyang is not Ruby's father. Uncle Crowe is actually Papa Crowe- but he didn't want the TRIBE to be part of Ruby's life. Not wanting a repeat of what happened to Raven (Strong deserve to survive attitude over a "everyone deserves a chance" attitude she has now). Of course, a competent writer would have shown tension between Taiyang and Crowe to hint at it or Taiyang and Ruby interacting more- so said revelation would be more devastating to her and the audience. It'd also make Yang not even a paternal sister. Though why Yang never got into the TRIBE might be because Taiyang opposed them (even fought them) so Raven left him over it.

- Summer and Taiyang had a rivalry (akin to Ruby and Weiss early on. Raven felt Summer was too naive, maybe even resenting her for being the leader over her). Perhaps Taiyang had an affair with Summer while with Taiyang, further fueling it. Maybe even Raven refused or hesitated to save Summer- resulting in her death. Ruby would then hate Raven for tearing her family apart (Summer, Taiyang, and Yang), and vice-versa for Raven feeling Summer tore her family apart (Taiyang and Yang). Of course, this'd built up Raven as the villain of Season 4- even if it was longer like a real series. And would leave Salem to plot and twiddle her thumbs.

These theories are cringe-worthy and have no build up in the series, and only serve to get a reaction from the audience rather than investment and entertainment.

So it has a decent chance of happening. Thanks Miles and Kerry.

1) I'll have to agree; big issue with the characters I have is them constantly walking around in the same set of over-designed cloth- I mean, "combat attire" all the time. If they had casual clothing they would be much more relateable and down-to-earth, but so far the only time we get to see them as such would be in fanart.

2) Yang virtually had no character at all of the previous seasons. She mostly proved to be a meat shield that just hovered around the other three. It's not like I find any of the characters relatable, but at least with the other three you have some sort of arc, even if crappily written or underdeveloped, that motivates them. Yang just has missing mommy problems that are rarely brought up, and outside of that is largely uninteresting. Cutting off her arm at least gave the audience a reason to care about her and not people related to her, not to mention trigger some character development (hopefully).

Given that the world is called Remnant and Salem goes out of her way to talk about how everyone is literally a remnant, I suspect we're going to get a cosmologically ground-shaking truthbomb at some point. Maybe having something to do with the sun/moon duality we keep seeing all over the place.

The shot with Yang and Ruby facing eachother at the end of the Yellow trailer distinctly set up the moon and sun relative to the sisters' positions. One of the season 3 songs talks about the moon watching the roses die. Also the moon is fucking disintegrating. That's not nothing.

I just realized that's the significance of Silver Eyes. It's the moon. Ruby is always themed with the moon. The first time we see her face in the Red Trailer, in songs, in camera shots. She and her partner, Weiss, both have strong connections to moon theming and their trailers take place at night. Weiss is set up with the moon in her trailer as well, and her personal history and personality puts her at odds with the Faunus. They both take place at night with the moon prominently featured. Yang is set opposing to Ruby in style, personality, and theme: she's themed after the sun, has fire abilities, is positioned with the sun in her trailer (opposite of Ruby and the moon) and selectively has (along with her mother) red eyes. Yang's partner is Blake, whose trailer took place in broad daylight with a bright color palette, and is a Faunus. Yang's trailer took place at dusk, with the sun on the horizon with the moon clearly visible. They both inherited unnatural eye colors from their mothers.

The daughters are being set up as contrary figures in a war or other adversarial context that predates them, that they were set on the opposite sides of by their disparate parentage with Tai being the centerpoint where they met. Yang is half-Faunus and is going to have conflicted loyalties; she is between the sun and moon. They might be setting up for Raven recruiting Yang with Qrow given so many lines browbeating her over being a shitty mom.

This is going full "Big Boss and Cipher could not agree on what the will of The Boss meant", and we're going to see two protagonists fight eachother over different interpretations of what the right course of action is in spite of a mutual general goodwill.
