Ansel Elgort’s denial that he had non-consensual sex with an underage girl caused an avalanche of reactions from fans Saturday night, who either questioned the sincerity of his statement or his accuser’s truthfulness.

“I cannot claim to understand Gabby’s feelings, but her description of events is simply not what happened. I have never and would never assault anyone,” he said in an Instagram post. Reactions poured in fast with commenters voicing strong opinions on both sides

“Perhaps it isn’t what happened in your eyes, but if this is how it felt to her, it’s time to address the way you view sex,” a user named quarantined_chucky wrote. “She was 17, you haven’t provided any evidence to the contrary. We all want to believe that this is a misunderstanding but even if it is a misunderstanding there are still apologies to be made to Gabby directly and explanations to be made as to why she’s saying she was barely 17 at the time, you know?”

“Literally the worst possible response to this. hope you at least personally apologized to her.” Sshannonwilliams wrote.

JLsmits wrote, “This isn’t even an apology. You’re discrediting her, giving excuses, and apologizing for the excuse you gave.”

But others question the motive of the girl, only know as Gabby.

On Friday, a woman named Gabby, who did not reveal her last name, tweeted a statement that said the actor, now 26, sexually assaulted her in 2014 when she was 17. Gabby described sobbing and being in pain and said, “I didn’t want to do it the only words that came out of his mouth were ‘we need to break you in.'”

After being attacked by Elgort fans, she deleted her social media accounts.

“West Side Story,” in which Elgort plays the starring role of Tony and Rachel Zegler as Maria, is one of Disney’s major planned releases for the holiday season and is slated for a Dec. 18 wide release. Disney did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

Dirty Kanza founder fired for saying police shooting of Rayshard Brooks was 'justified'

The founder of Dirty Kanza, Jim Cummins, has been fired by the organisers of the popular gravel race over a social media post in which he claimed the shooting of a black man by police in Atlanta this week was "justified".

Cummins, who set up Dirty Kanza in 2006, was dismissed from his role as 'Chief Gravel Officer' by Life Time, the company that now runs the event, on Saturday night.

He had posted on Facebook to address the killing of Rayshard Brooks, who was shot dead as police officers tried to arrest him on Friday. Brooks' death came at a time when repeated killings of African Americans by police had led to anti-racism protests across America and the world.

Cummins, whose Facebook account has now been deleted, reposted a video of the attempted arrest two years ago of Daniel Clary, who shot at two police officers and escaped. Cummins added the following message: "Watch this ENTIRE video. Then if you still believe the cop who shot Rayshard Brooks, after he stole the officer's taser and then used it against him, was not justified in shooting Mr. Brooks… then unfriend me now."

Life Time, which also runs the Big Sugar and Crusher in the Tushar gravel events, issued a statement later on Saturday.

"Following a review of the post made by the founder of Dirty Kanza, we found it to be inappropriate and insensitive, and we stand against it as an organization. As an outcome of our investigation, we have parted ways with this individual," it said.

"One of our core principles is to provide safe, trusting, and respectful environments for all our members, customers and team members, while rejecting all actions of prejudice or injustice towards others.

"We will continue to take all matters like this with the same degree of seriousness by conducting thorough reviews and acting any time we believe our company principles have been violated."

Cummins had recently faced accusations that the name of Dirty Kanza was itself racist. Kanza can refer to the Kaw Nation, a native American tribe, and so the event's name was read as a slur by those petitioning for it to be changed. In April, Cummins co-signed an open letter from the race and Kaw Nation chairwoman Lynn Williams in which both said they were "proud to stand alongside one another".

Already, Lindsey Graham is heaping praise on Strauss, calling her “highly competent, highly capable” and lauding her for possessing “the knowledge and experience to hit the ground running”. That is not good news for the White House. Graham chairs the Senate judiciary committee.

As a younger lawyer, Strauss bested the real Roy Cohn in a mob prosecution. Back in the day, Cohn was Trump’s personal lawyer. Like Cohn, Barr attended Horace Mann for high school and Columbia for college.

Clayton’s shot at the SDNY appears to be evaporating. From the looks of things, Chuck Schumer and Kirstin Gillibrand, New York’s Democratic senators, will be given the right to spike his nomination. They have already vowed to nix his bid, if Graham is to be believed. Clayton is a savvy corporate lawyer, not a litigator. Being a federal prosecutor calls for hands-on courtroom experience.
