US Intel Officials Made Secret Trip To Damascus For Talks With Assad Advisor

Reuters has confirmed a bombshell report which first surfaced Tuesday in Lebanese media saying that a high level delegation of US intelligence officials made a secret visit to Damascus in June to meet with President Bashar al-Assad's most trusted senior advisor, Ali Mamlouk, who serves as Syria's top security chief.

The meeting, which took place near Damascus international airport, was first revealed by the Lebanese daily al-Akhbar, which reported it as lasting up to four hours and part of an ongoing secret back-channel dialogue.

Such talks are unprecedented for the fact that the two countries haven't had such direct dealings since near the start of the conflict in 2011, and the United States and its allies have bombed Syrian government forces and locations multiple times over the past years.

Perhaps the biggest revelation is contained in the following, according to Reuters:

U.S. officials had demanded the withdrawal of Iranian forces from southern Syria and data on “terrorist groups”, including foreign fighters, and had also requested a role in the oil business in eastern Syria.

Let’s not forget that this rule was put in place to limit prison overpopulation and was only applicable for those who couldn’t bond out of prison so that they wouldn’t be detained overly long waiting for a speedy trial.

Senate Confirms Terwilliger as United States Attorney

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – G. Zachary Terwilliger has been confirmed by the United States Senate as the 62nd United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.

“I am humbled, thankful, and deeply honored to be confirmed as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia,” said Terwilliger. “As a federal prosecutor who focused on complex violent crime, organized crime, fraud, and human trafficking cases for almost a decade, I have had the privilege of working with some of the best law enforcement officers, prosecutors, attorneys, and colleagues in the country. I owe a huge debt to those who took the time to teach me how to be an AUSA, and to the many AUSAs from 1789 to present who have made this district one of the best in the country.”

“I am grateful to the President for my nomination, the Attorney General for his willingness to support my prior appointment, to Senators Warner and Kaine for their recommendation and endorsement, and to my family for their constant support, patience, and understanding as I have pursued the calling of public service,” said Terwilliger.

“Since the Attorney General appointed me in late May, I have travelled to each sector of the District and engaged in substantive strategy meetings with over 100 law enforcement leaders in our Alexandria, Newport News, Norfolk, and Richmond divisions, including chiefs of police, sheriffs, commonwealth’s attorneys, and federal law enforcement officials,” said Terwilliger. “With the strong federal, state, and local collaboration that exists in the Eastern District, we are bringing impact cases and fighting violent crime, gangs, opioids, national security threats and criminal immigration offenses. In the last three months, we have charged nearly 40 illegal firearms cases, 60 defendants for trafficking illegal substances such as heroin and fentanyl, and nearly 100 criminal immigration cases that include many defendants who have committed serious, dangerous offenses in our communities. We have also continued our critical work battling espionage and terrorism, defending civil actions against the United States, its agencies, and employees, pursuing affirmative civil enforcement to recover government money lost to fraud, upholding the civil rights of the District’s citizens, protecting servicemembers’ rights, fighting fraud against vulnerable victims and our institutions, as well as prosecuting cyber intrusion, child exploitation, and trafficking offenses.”

“This important work has been recognized by the Department, and with tremendous support from the Attorney General and our administrative staff here, I have had the great fortune to hire 25 new employees, including 15 new Assistant United States Attorneys, who will be force multipliers for our mission.”

Terwilliger began his career at EDVA as an intern in 1999. In 2008, he was hired as the Project Safe Neighborhood Special Assistant U.S. Attorney to focus on gun and gang crime. In 2010, Terwilliger was hired as an Assistant U.S. Attorney.

Immediately prior to his appointment as U.S. Attorney on May 25, Terwilliger served as an Associate Deputy Attorney General, and Chief of Staff in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice. In that role, Terwilliger was a principal advisor to senior Department of Justice leadership for corporate compliance, federal, state and local law enforcement cooperation, violent crime reduction, and other critical matters.

As U.S. Attorney, Terwilliger is the chief federal law enforcement officer in EDVA and supervises the prosecution of all federal crimes and the litigation of all civil matters in which the United States has an interest. Terwilliger leads a staff of over 250 prosecutors, civil litigators, and support personnel located in Alexandria, Newport News, Norfolk, and Richmond.

Terwilliger earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia and graduated with the highest honors from the William & Mary School of Law. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable K. Michael Moore, currently the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Terwilliger has lived in the Eastern District of Virginia for over 25 years.

The banking industry is a fertile breeding ground for famous family businesses, including the Barings, Rothschilds and Morgans. Family Business will look at each of these in the coming weeks, but we will start with the Barings, the first modern banking family in Britain’s history.

In the 15th century, the Barings were Dutch wool millers from Groningen. In 1717, Johann Baring – who had subsequently anglicised his name to John – moved to Exeter, England to take up an apprenticeship at a major wool-exporting house. He set the wheels of the dynasty in motion by working hard and marrying assiduously.

By the time he died, John had left a small fortune of about $US10 million in today’s money to his five children and his widow. Soon after his death, the Barings were already facing one of the great dangers of running a family business – diversions and temptations of fortune.

Portland Mayor Denies Assistance to ICE, Violates City’s Equal Protection Policy

During aggressive protests by criminal Occupy Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) rioters at federal facilities in Oregon, Portland’s Mayor implemented dangerously restrictive police procedures that ordered officers to ignore calls for help from federal law enforcement personnel under attack. Instead of proactive support, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) were limited to a passive “liaison” role with the Federal Protection Service (FSP). According to records obtained by Judicial Watch, PPB officers were only allowed to respond to life-threatening attacks and 911 calls made by ICE agents and FPS officers. Portland’s Mayor, Ted Wheeler, also serves as the city’s Police Bureau Commissioner. Wheeler has been a vocal proponent in his commitment to protect criminal illegal aliens, restrict gun rights and support burdensome climate policies. Under his direction, tensions among protestors and federal law enforcement officers started in mid-June with a camp at ICE facilities in the downtown area and ended in late July with piles of trash in the street. ICE Council leadership reported hard-left Antifa members were an active contingent among protestors who besieged the federal immigration processing offices, damaged property and injured officers.

Documents obtained by Judicial Watch indicate an alarming hands-off approach instituted by PPB management. On June 19, FPS Commander Lopez asked PPB Deputy Chief Robert Day for assistance. Day’s refusal in the highly redacted document was clear: “At this time I am denying your request for additional resources from PPB.” Officers were directed “not to proactively patrol the area of the demonstration” and to “only respond to calls at the demonstration site that have an immediate life safety concern.” On June 21, the mayor’s direction was “for PPB to not get involved unless lives are in danger.” ICE agents on the ground reported these were the daily orders given at briefings to rank-and-file PPB personnel.

Mayor Wheeler’s selective enforcement order conflicts with PPB rules. The Biased-Based Policing Policy states, “The Bureau is dedicated to offering courteous and professional service delivery and providing equal protection, a fundamental right under the Constitution, to all members of the community.” Additionally, all employees are expected to “reduce crime and the fear of crime by working with all citizens.” Police officers and managers are mandated to “respond to requests for police assistance.” Law enforcement sources familiar with the situation communicated, “When local police disengage from proactive responsibilities and assistance, one can expect masked, helmeted and shielded protestors to assault and endanger federal officers.” On July 31 the National ICE Council sent a cease and desist letter to the Mayor.
