Most texts do mention African American participation in the war, but they focus primarily on those who sided with the Americans. In fact, those who sided with the British were far more numerous, but you’d never guess it from reading the texts. When they offer numbers, they typically compare the estimated number of black patriot soldiers during the course of the entire war (5,000) with the number of slaves who sought freedom with the British in a single week (generally cited as 300).

Likewise, current texts include some mention of the Native American presence in the Revolutionary War, but their narratives display a serious bias. In chapters on the post-war period --- right at the moment of the greatest white incursion onto Native lands in United States history— the Indian presence mysteriously disappears. Discussions of white conquest appear earlier and later in these texts, but not at the critical point of our nation’s founding, when it is most relevant but also most embarrassing. The pan-Indian resistance movements of the 1780s — again, the largest coalitions of Native Americans in our history — are entirely neglected. With nary a nod to the impact on indigenous people, the texts celebrate the ordinances of 1785 and 1787 — blueprints for westward expansion and death knells for Indian sovereignty.

What is 'Pujo Committee'

The Pujo Committee was established in 1912 by Arsène Pujo, a member of the United States House of Representatives as well as the National Monetary Commission, to investigate a U.S. group known as the money trust. The committee helped to open the eyes of the public on the issue which helped gain support for the changes that needed to be made.

The Pujo Committee performed an investigation into the allegations that the U.S. economy, monetary system and financial industry was being controlled by only a select few powerful individuals, a group that became known as the money trust.

Concerns about a financial monopoly began to grow it the late 1800s, as significant wealth, power and influence were increasingly controlled and monopolized by a small cartel of New York banking and insurance firms under the stewardship of such financial giants as J.P. The resolution concerning the abuse of Wall Street’s power was originally introduced in 1911 by Congressman Charles Lindbergh Sr., father of famed aviator Charles Lindbergh. In 1912, Congressman Arsène Pujo of Louisiana, a Democrat who served from 1903 to 1913, was authorized to form a subcommittee of the House Committee on Banking and Currency. The committee to investigate the so-called money trust became known as the Pujo Committee.

On February 28, 1913, Pujo submitted the committee’s report to “Investigate the Concentration of Control of Money and Credit," which alleged that “the finances of many of the great industrial and railroad corporations of the country engaged in interstate commerce is rapidly concentrating in the hands of a few groups of financiers in the city of New York… and that these groups, by reason of their control over the funds of such corporations and the power to dictate the depositories of such funds…have secured domination over many of the leading national banks and other moneyed institutions… and are being used to further the enterprises and increase the profits of these groups of individuals from such transactions.”

Findings of the Pujo Committee

The investigation by the Pujo Committee Report proved that the cabal of financial leaders had abused the public’s trust to consolidate control over many industries. Mr. Payseur also owned a company by the name of “The Lancaster Cotton Oil”, this company started the manufacture of fertilizer and other related items.

Leroy Springs was appointed President of all of Mr. Payseurs companies to oversee them, he was also Mr. Payseurs’ attorney and a trustee for his affairs. He was trusted with all kinds of important documents, affidavits and secrets, as to who the true owners were of these companies.

Remember that it was stated earlier that the northerner’s couldn’t get the southern people to work for them, so Northerners would appoint the old exconfederate officers to run the companies owned by Yankees after the Civil War and all the confiscation’s. That is how Leroy Springs got involved with the Lancaster Cotton Mill, and the other companies. He was a manager not an owner.
