The reportedDSA-linked planning treats the Insurrection Act as a trapthat works only if Trump walks into it on their timetable and terms.

Over on X, DataRepublican’s reporting on documents and recordings from the Democratic Socialists of America and allied networks lays out a calculated strategy for the run-up to the 2028 elections. The goal issustained mass violence and street clashes designed to push President Donald Trump into invoking the Insurrection Act. Once invoked, Democratic governors and progressive organizations would treat the order itself as evidence of “fascism” and a reason to undermine federal authority.

Groups including the United Democracy Alliance, invoking Erica Chenoweth’s 3.5 percent rule, appear ready to coordinate the street actions, legal support, and media framing. Neville Roy Singham, operating from Shanghai and connected to the Chinese Communist Party’s United Front Work Department, is positioned to amplify the disruption from abroad.

The plan assumes Trump will choose immediate order over patience, and hand his opponents the optics they have prepared. Whether that assumption holds depends on the costs of each path.

Policing power in America is overwhelmingly local. The FBI fields about 13,700 special agents nationwide. The New York Police Department alone has more than 34,700 sworn officers. A president can protect federal property, personnel, and functions without becoming the default response for every city whose leaders have weakened policing and tolerated disorder. Broader federal action is also available. Both options carry consequences, and progressive networks are organized to contest either one.

One set of costs is political. Invoking the Insurrection Act and placing federalized National Guard or active-duty forces in law-enforcement roles inside Democratic cities would supply the “fascism” narrative. Local Democratic officials who have criticized aggressive policing and treated destructive unrest as legitimate expression would likely resist or litigate the deployment. That resistance would become part of the story.

The 1992 Los Angeles riots illustrate a different situation. After the Rodney King verdict, the LAPD initially pulled back. Democratic Mayor Tom Bradley requested help. Republican Gov. Pete Wilson activated the California National Guard. President George H.W. Bush then invoked the Insurrection Act. I was a National Guard captain then, leading patrols with live ammunition in the Crenshaw district. Residents thanked us. Visible force restored order with relatively few rounds fired. The local, state, and federal-level agreement mattered. But today’s Democratic mayors and governors are more likely to oppose federal assistance in restoring order, turning the deployment itself, not the violence, into the central political fact.

A fighter jet used a "headbutt maneuver" to intercept a civilian plane that had entered restricted airspace near President Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, on Saturday, U.S. military officials said. Mr. Trump was in West Palm Beach that day to vote in Florida's midterm election.

The interception took place at around 12:20 p.m. ET, when an F-16 deployed by the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, flew closely in front of the plane in order to gain the pilot's attention, NORAD said. That tactic, called the "headbutt maneuver," is considered standard, according to the command.

In this case, the maneuver allowed the military jet to establish communication with the pilot, who proceeded to safely steer the plane out of restricted airspace, in compliance with flight instructions, NORAD said. The plane had violated a Temporary Flight Restriction, or TFR, enacted over the area, which means its pilot could "also be met by federal authorities upon landing and subject to enforcement action," the command said.

The Federal Aviation Administration issues TFRs for a variety of reasons, often linked to large sporting events, extreme weather scenarios, political rallies or any number of other engagements attended by high-profile political figures, especially the president. The FAA transmits the latest information about such restrictions to pilots through Notices to Airmen, or NOTAMs. Pilots are encouraged to keep tabs on those regularly.

Mr. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were seen at a West Palm Beach polling station on Saturday afternoon, where the president cast an early ballot ahead of next week's midterm elections. Asked whether he voted along party lines, Mr. Trump said: "Very much so." He went on to travel to Georgia for a campaign rally.

His appearances at midterm campaign rallies around the country have triggered various temporary flight restrictions in recent weeks. Earlier this month, NORAD reported that its F-16s intercepted a plane that had entered restricted airspace over Clemson, South Carolina, where Mr. Trump held a rally to support Darline Graham's Senate campaign. Just days before that, the command said a similar interception took place over Cincinnati, Ohio, near the site of another rally that the president attended

Expedition 75 began the week gearing up for a spacewalk to upgrade the International Space Station’s power generation system. Research into bioprinted blood vessels and relaxation techniques, as well cargo operations rounded out Monday’s schedule.

Flight engineers Anil Menon of NASA and Joshua Kutryk of CSA (Canadian Space Agency) will exit the Quest airlock at 8 a.m. EDT on Thursday to install one of two roll-out solar arrays on the orbital outpost’s port side truss structure.

NASA flight engineers Jessica Watkins and Luke Delaney will support the spacewalkers in and out of their spacesuits and assist the duo with the Canadarm2 robotic arm during the planned six-hour and 45-minute spacewalk.

Live coverage of the spacewalk will begin on NASA+ starting at 6:30 a.m.

The four astronauts joined each other on Monday and familiarized themselves with the Canadarm2 maneuvers necessary to support Thursday’s spacewalk.

Menon and Kutryk will first release the roll-out solar array from an external pallet. Menon then will attach himself to the robotic arm, retrieve the roll-out solar array, then ride the Canadarm2 to the installation worksite.

Kutryk will remain tethered to the truss structure, translate to the port truss worksite, and join Menon to complete the installation job. Afterward, mission controllers will activate the new roll-out solar array.

This video from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory shows the week’s activity.

Both of this week’s M-class flares came from active region AR14551. The first, an M1.3 on Oct. 16, appears as a small bright flash just below and to the right of the Sun’s center at about 0:17 in the video.

The second, an M1.6 on Oct. 19, erupts at about 1:30, after the region had drifted about halfway to the western limb (right edge).

From about 2:00 to the end, watch AR14551 rotate off the Sun’s lower right edge, with glowing coronal loops towering above the limb. Quite a farewell! 🌅

At about 2:29, a calibration maneuver briefly moves the Sun out of frame.

Isaacman confirms Alabama a ‘strong contender’ for U.S. Space Academy in exclusive interview

Alabama is among the strong contenders to become home to the proposed U.S. Space Academy, NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman confirmed Saturday in an exclusive interview with 256 Today ahead of the Alabama-Texas A&M football game.

“Oh, I’m quite sure that Alabama is one of the strong contenders right now,” Isaacman said.

The proposed academy, announced by President Donald Trump in August, would be the nation’s first NASA-led federal academy, preparing students for careers in space exploration, engineering, science and national security.

Alabama is making a push to bring the academy to Huntsville, home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, Redstone Arsenal and a growing aerospace and defense industry.

Isaacman said states with strong ties to the nation’s space program have been reaching out to the commission overseeing the academy’s development.

“So over the last several weeks, you’ve had senators and governors from a lot of states, especially with states with such strong history and space related equities like you have here in in Alabama that have been reaching out,” he said.

He explained that the commission is gathering information about available land and nearby academic institutions that could help educate students before a permanent campus is completed.

“So of course, Alabama was in there,” Isaacman said.

The final location will be selected by President Trump following recommendations from the commission due in December.

What’s next for the Space Academy?

NASA Deputy Administrator Matt Anderson also spoke exclusively with 256 Today, offering additional details about the academy’s timeline and how it would operate.

Anderson said the commission is about halfway through its 120-day assignment and expects to receive information from interested states by Nov. 16.

A full commission meeting is scheduled for Nov. 23 to review the submissions and move toward recommendations for the president. The deadline was originally Oct. 26 but was extended to give states additional time to respond.

The timeline calls for groundbreaking on a permanent campus no later than 2027, an initial class of approximately 300 students in temporary facilities in 2028 and a permanent campus operating by 2031.

Anderson said the ambitious schedule is achievable, pointing to the establishment of the U.S. Air Force Academy more than 70 years ago.

“And the president signed legislation in April of 54 to establish the US Air Force Academy. 15 months later, summer of 55, students showed up in class,” he said. “So we’re actually have a head start on them from over 70 years ago. So we feel we have plenty of time.”

Unlike traditional military service academies, the U.S. Space Academy would primarily prepare students for civilian service, including careers at NASA and other federal space agencies.

“It is a NASA LED federal Academy,” Anderson said. “This allows the majority of our graduates to serve their nation in a civilian capacity in NASA or the NRO or other federal space based agencies.”

Students who want to pursue military service would also have an opportunity to earn commissions, primarily in the U.S. Space Force.
