Federal Agents Arrest 131 People With Alleged Gang Ties

From Oct. 4 to Oct. 10, agents took 131 alleged gang-affiliated individuals into custody, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Of those, 22 were associated with MS-13 affiliates, and 13 were tied to Tren de Aragua, the department said.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) made 129 of the arrests, while Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) handled the remaining two.

"The best that America has to offer are on the frontlines every day to ensure that the worst of humanity cannot threaten or harm innocent Americans," DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in a statement about the gang member arrests.

"Under President Trump's leadership, we are smashing the gangs and cartels, making it impossible for them to do business in America, and removing their members from our country. Arresting and deporting illegal aliens, especially gang members, is how we make America safe again."

Among those arrested is Gustavo Adolfo Flores-Ramirez, an alleged MS-13 member from El Salvador. Flores-Ramirez is wanted in El Salvador for aggravated homicide, aggravated femicide, rape of a minor or incapacitated person, illegal handling of firearms, illicit grouping, and crimes involving public peace. He was arrested by ICE in Las Vegas on Oct. 14. Flores-Ramirez had been arrested by Border Patrol in 2021, deported to Mexico, and then re-entered illegally.

Gang Arrest Totals

Since Jan. 20, 2025, ICE has arrested 1,965 MS-13 affiliates and 1,553 Tren de Aragua affiliates.

In June, DHS said ICE had arrested more than 10,000 gang members so far during President Donald Trump's second term.

"These 10,000 criminals committed heinous crimes, including murder, assault with a deadly weapon, drug trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, robbery, and extortion," DHS stated.

Blame Russia, ignore the money? Israel’s election interference debate

As politicians point to Russia and Iran, an Israeli journalist argues that Western funding of media and NGOs deserves scrutiny

As Israel prepares for the October 27 elections, accusations of foreign interference are intensifying. While Israeli leaders have pointed to Iran, Russia, and China, journalist Nick Kolyohin argues that greater scrutiny should be directed at Western funding of Israeli media outlets and civil society organizations, which he believes may be influencing the country’s political discourse.

With election day approaching, political parties are stepping up efforts to attract voters and consolidate their support.

The right-wing camp, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is seeking to rally hawkish voters behind him, potentially at the expense of other conservative parties. The opposition bloc is trying to persuade voters to abandon Netanyahu and shift their support to its side.

Yet the battle for the Israeli electorate is not being fought exclusively within the country’s borders. Foreign actors are also seeking to shape the political landscape and influence the outcome of the election.

Foreign meddling

Several days ago, speaking to Channel 14, Netanyahu raised this concern.

“Iran is trying to damage the elections with the help of its terror arms Hamas and Hezbollah. It is totally true – they say it openly that they need to topple me because their real desire is to destroy the State of Israel.”

Iran, however, is not the only country accused of interference. In July, speaking at the Knesset, opposition leader Yair Lapid also accused China and Russia of attempting to meddle.

“The elections are drawing closer. Iran is involved, Russia is involved, and influence operations are running rampant on social media. They want to divide us, strengthen the extremists, weaken the moderates, and sow chaos and hatred.”

Nick Kolyohin, a veteran Israeli journalist and Russia expert, disputes the accusations against Moscow, saying he has seen no evidence of Russian interference in the current or previous election cycles:

“I am not witnessing, neither in the current round, nor in the previous, any influence from the Russian side.”

“I am not even sure which side Russia prefers in this internal dispute between the different political parties. Israeli politicians are not speaking about Russia so it doesn’t even make any sense for Moscow to interfere because it is not clear which government is going to be good or bad for the Kremlin,” he said.

Chinese Firms That Cashed In On Stolen Google AI Secrets Has Roots In Sam Altman’s Overseas Venture

Chinese firm that bankrolled a convicted Google artificial intelligence thief grew out of a program launched by Sam Altman.

The State Department imposed sanctions on Beijing-based MiraclePlus and four related entities Monday over their ties to former Google engineer Linwei Ding, who was convicted of stealing the company’s AI trade secrets in January, according to a department statement. MiraclePlus traces back to a Chinese program that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman launched while running Y Combinator in 2018, Bloomberg reported.

Ding founded Shanghai Zhisuan Technology, which is among those sanctioned by the department, in 2023, and later sought funding from MiraclePlus in his application into its program, the department stated.

Ding was “touting his experience with and knowledge of Google’s technology and internal systems and claimed that Zhisuan could replicate Google’s SI infrastructure technology,” the department stated.

MiraclePlus accepted Ding into its program in Aug. 2023 and invested about $700,000 in exchange for a small ownership stake in the company, according to an Aug. 20 federal court order.

Lu Qi, a former Microsoft and Baidu executive whom Altman hired to run YC China, formed MiraclePlus with the program’s former team after Y Combinator shut it down in 2019, TechCrunch reported.

Lu was not among those sanctioned Monday, according to the department’s fact sheet.

I am delighted to announce that Qi Lu is joining YC to launch and run YC China. I have been trying to recruit Qi for many years — he is one of the most impressive technologists I know,” Altman wrote in an Aug. 14 blog post for Y Combinator.

“Y Combinator has no affiliation with MiraclePlus or Lu Qi,” a Y Combinator spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Altman stepped down as Y Combinator’s president in 2019 to focus on OpenAI, Axios reported.

The State Department, MiraclePlus and OpenAI each did not respond to the DCNF’s requests for comment.

ISRAEL RUNS ADS FOR IRAN WAR IN IOWA DURING MIDTERMS

The Israeli government’s FARA-registered contractor is taking its Iran-war message directly to Iowa voters as a Senate battleground heads toward Election Day.

The government of Israel—not AIPAC, not an American advocacy group—is buying television time in Iowa during the midterms to sell the Iran war to U.S. voters.

Zeteo reported that Israel is airing the spots in Iowa, where the Iran war has become a central issue in the Senate race. One ad declares that Israel “confronts Iran and its network of proxies directly,” claiming the campaign will “deter aggression” and “stop a wider conflict.”

The ads are not a stray act of private lobbying. The Justice Department’s FARA records identify Brad Parscale’s Clock Tower X LLC as a registered agent for the State of Israel through Havas Media Germany GmbH. FARA materials carry the disclosure: “This material is distributed by Clock Tower X LLC on behalf of the State of Israel.”

Parscale ran data and digital operations for Trump’s 2016 campaign and later managed Trump’s 2020 campaign. Axios reported that Clock Tower X contracted with Israel’s Foreign Ministry to execute a nationwide media campaign, with content aimed heavily at Gen Z audiences across digital and broadcast outlets.

The Des Moines Register reported that related Israel-backed mailers reached areas of at least two competitive Iowa races. Those mailers did not name or endorse candidates, and Parscale did not explain whether they aimed at particular contests.

But the political ground is not neutral. AP reported that Iran-war advertising has become a major weapon in Iowa’s Senate race. Israel has now entered that fight itself, broadcasting its own case for the Iran war into an American election battleground.

The clip is from Rogers’ July 28, 2025 appearance on the Brian Kilmeade Show, according to a Michigan Democratic Party transcript and reporting by Metro Times. Raw Story also reported on the resurfaced interview. It records a policy argument for redactions, not a private order by Rogers stopping a Justice Department release.

Rogers said victims must be protected and said records concerning Epstein’s island “ought to be released.” But he urged a small working group to screen the material, argued against a “big, big, ugly vote on the House floor,” and said people whose names appeared in raw files should not have their careers, reputations, or families wrecked by the court of public opinion.

The question lands amid Rogers’ own fundraising. Metro Times reported that at least seven donors whose names appeared in released Epstein-related records gave nearly $4.7 million to Rogers, his committees, and outside groups backing him since 2023. Snopes independently verified the core funding claim but noted that most of the money went to an independent super PAC and that appearing in the files does not establish criminal conduct.

Rogers’ campaign told Metro Times that the former FBI agent “busted human traffickers” and called any implication that he would accept money from traffickers “disgusting.” The resurfaced recording does not name the people Rogers wanted redacted. It does show a Senate candidate demanding that some Epstein-linked names remain hidden.

Elon Musk "capped the speeds at which Ukrainian hardware could stay connected to the satellite-based network," the Wall Street Journal reported.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk ordered the slowdown of a military-grade version of SpaceX's Starlink satellite service that Ukraine relies on, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing US officials.

Kyiv uses Starlink for battlefield communications and drone operations. Restricting the service means restricting the country's attack and defense missions against Russia.

Last week, Musk capped the speeds at which Ukrainian hardware could stay connected to the satellite-based network, the report said,citing unnamed sources. The move rendered some offensive drones and interceptor drones virtually useless, it added.

Two people told the Journal that Musk and US President Donald Trump discussed the Starlink decision in a call soon after the slowdown became public.

Some US officials, the report said, believed Musk acted unilaterally and that Trump did not specifically order retribution against Ukraine.

However, one person familiar with the situation said Musk spoke with multiple senior administration officials, including Trump, before imposing the speed cap.

Both Musk and Trump have expressed anger at Ukraine for attacking Russian diesel refineries in recent weeks, which the president blames for high energy prices.

The report also comes after Trump's comments last week that he did not think either he or Musk was responsible for Ukraine losing Starlink access.

Musk had said that any limits on speed or use were decided by the US military or the president.

Musk, SpaceX, and the White House are yet to respond to the report.

BioWare is shutting down and the next Mass Effect game is canceled, EA has announced.

Bloomberg said BioWare closes its doors amid mass layoffs at Electronic Arts, which amount to 400 people losing their jobs (approx. 3% of total staff). Roughly 50 of these roles were at BioWare.

After the franchise-best sales of Dragon Age: Inquisition, BioWare sought live-service success with Anthem, then spent the best part of a decade on the troubled Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Both underperformed. Mass Effect, meanwhile, has seen mixed success. Mass Effect Andromeda is widely considered a disappointment among fans, though the series' more recent Legendary Edition remaster was well-received.

BioWare had spent the past half a decade gradual teasing the next Mass Effect's setting and story. We'd had it confirmed that Mass Effect 5 would have been set hundreds of years after Mass Effect 3, and feature a narrative that re-centers the action on the franchise's original Milky Way setting, long after the Reapers were defeated. Now, fans will never find out what happens next.

It is unclear what this means for Amazon's live-action Mass Effect series, which was also meant to be set after the events of Mass Effect 3 and tell a fresh story. Earlier this year, Mass Effect TV series co-showrunner Daniel Casey refuted a report that suggested the upcoming adaptation had recently undergone rewrites to be "more appealing to non-gamers."
