33 Leaders Demand Mosque Moratorium in Texas and Florida: Investigate ‘Critical Infrastructure of Jihad’. 1/2

On 19 October 2026,Governors Greg Abbott (Texas) and Ron DeSantis(Florida) received an open letter from 33 leaders of patriotic organizations calling for investigations into mosques associated with the Muslim Brotherhood and other sharia supremacism networks and for the imposition of temporary moratoriums on the approval and construction of new mosques in their respective states.

The letter from the BanSharia.com Coalition thanks the Governors for designating the Muslim Brotherhood and its US arm, CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations), as terrorist organizations. Abbott made the declaration in November 2025, describing both as a foreign terrorist organization and a transnational criminal organization, and restricting property acquisition in the process. DeSantis made his move in December 2025 with an executive order directing state agencies to deny benefits or resources to anyone who provides material support. CAIR has, of course, brought federal lawsuits in response to both designations, seeking temporary injunctions.

The signatories maintain that the designations must be enforced and that the groups’ activities must cease in Texas and Florida. They point to a “critical infrastructure of jihad” comprising the facilities which the Brotherhood refers to as Islamic societies or Islamic centers (in practice these are mosques). The U.S. total is estimated to be at least 3,150. CAIR co-founder and Executive Director Nihad Awad has put the number at 4,000. The letter goes on to state that new facilities are still being approved and built every month, particularly in Texas and Florida, which are the focus of a campaign of ” stealthy civilization jihad “.

That phrase is in the Muslim Brotherhood’s 1991 ‘Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Objective of the Group in North America’ by Mohamed Akram (a leading Brotherhood figure at the time and still is). The document was admitted as evidence in the Holy Land Foundation trial on terrorism financing. It states: “The process of settlement is a ‘Civilization Jihadist process’ with all the means. The Muslim Brotherhood must realize that their work in America is a kind of great Jihad in the annihilation and destruction of Western civilization from within and in the ‘sabotage’ of its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is wiped out. The religion of Allah is established over all other religions.”

The memo on the role of the mosques is entitled “Understanding the role and the nature of work of ‘the Islamic Center’ in every city with what achieves the goal of the process of settlement”. It states: “To the extent that we own and control these centers at the continental level, we can say that we are progressing successfully in the settlement of Dawa in this country. That is to say that the role of the ‘Center’ is the same as that of the ‘Mosque’ in the time of the Prophet (S) when he was marching to ‘settle’ Dawa in its first generation in Medina.” This is interpreted as equating the role of the mosques that are under the control of the organization with those of the mosques in the days of the Prophet, i.e., they are to be used for the storage of arms and for the training and planning of jihad.

Ms Henderson told News24.com.au that Labor’s Digital Duty of Care raised serious concerns about the impact of the legislation on political satire and free speech.

A steadily increasing number of public statements by imams, leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood’s front groups and sharia supremacists in politics all point to seditious intent. The letter asks whether public safety and national security may in fact be compromised by some, or indeed all, of the mosques in America and that this possibility must be investigated with the utmost urgency.

While Texas and Florida conduct their own investigations, the signatories say they could impose moratoriums on approving and constructing any further mosques. They argue that federal constitutional and statutory schemes can implement such moratoria despite the very strong state interests at stake. The letter calls on the governors to carry out threat assessments of the Islamic community, Islamic centers and other mosques and to, in the course of those assessments, prevent any further expansion of that infrastructure.

Of the 33 signatories: Rep. Keith Self (R-TX); Lt. Gen. (Ret.) William “Jerry” Boykin, Executive VP of the Family Research Council; Ayaan Hirsi Ali, founder of the AHA Foundation; Frank Gaffney, President of the Institute for the American Future; Anne Schlafly, Chair of the Eagle Forum; Kimberly Fletcher, founder and president of Moms for America; me as founder and Director of Hearts of Oak. Others include leaders from the Texas Eagle Forum, Grassroots America (We the People PAC), the American Family Association, and several organizations focused on national security and constitutional issues.

The letter goes on to state that the Governors previously designated the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR as having both the authority and the duty to assess the facilities in question and to prevent any further expansion of those facilities during the assessments. No fixed timescale is suggested beyond the timescale required for the assessments.

Attacks on the Taliban Governor’s Office

Several security incidents took place in Faizabad in August this year.

Anti-Taliban resistance fronts claimed responsibility for several attacks on the Taliban governor’s office and nearby checkpoints.

The Taliban-appointed mayor was also killed in an explosive attack claimed by the National Resistance Front.

Following these incidents and the establishment of the drone operations centre in Faizabad, Taliban drones have continuously flown over the city, conducting patrols and aerial surveillance.

Residents of the old city of Faizabad who live around the governor’s office have complained about strict Taliban security measures.

They say Taliban drones fly at very low altitudes over their homes and film residential courtyards, making it difficult for women to leave their homes or carry out daily activities in their yards during the day.

Residents also raised these concerns during a meeting with the Taliban governor, but said their complaints had so far produced no results.

Fighting Intensifies in Badakhshan

In recent months, Taliban forces have repeatedly engaged in direct clashes with Afghanistan Freedom Front fighters in Zebak district.

Four Explosions in Two Weeks

Four explosions have occurred in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan, in less than 20 days.

According to sources, senior Taliban security and intelligence officials and other high-ranking members of the group were among the intended targets.

The first explosion occurred on 28 September in the Jalghar area.

The second took place on 29 September in Dasht-e Wakilabad, near the university and within the jurisdiction of the city’s second security district.

A third explosion occurred on 5 October, followed by a fourth on 7 October near the Taliban police headquarters.

Several explosions also took place in the city the previous month, two of which targeted religious and jihadist schools.

The Afghanistan Freedom Front, the National Resistance Front and Amrullah Saleh’s Green Unit have claimed responsibility for the explosions.

The repeated blasts and worsening insecurity in Faizabad have increased Taliban security concerns. At the same time, the Taliban has carried out widespread arrests in the city.

WASHINGTON (CN) — The justices’ lucrative publishing deals left the Supreme Court unable to settle a major music copyright dispute Monday.

Four of the high court’s nine members sat out on an appeal from the international record label BMG Rights Management. The label is owned by the same German media company as Penguin Random House, which published books by Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett and Ketanji Brown Jackson.

According to watchdog group Fix the Court, the justices have collectively netted over $13 million from book deals. Unlike unreported gifts from billionaire donors, the high court’s financial entanglements with the publishing industry have so far been outside of ethics scrutiny.

The BBC is seeking to depose former special counsel Jack Smith as it defends itself against President Donald Trump's $10 billion defamation lawsuit over a documentary that spliced together portions of his Jan. 6, 2021, speech.

In a federal court filing on Monday, the broadcaster said Smith could have evidence relevant to Trump's intent surrounding the Capitol attack. Smith is not objecting to the subpoena, while Trump's lawyers argue his testimony would be irrelevant, repetitive and based on secondhand evidence.

The request comes amid a separate fight over Trump's own deposition, just days after a federal magistrate judge threatened to sanction Trump for missing his.

The BBC said Smith's public report does not include all of the evidence gathered during his investigation. The broadcaster pointed to Smith's conclusion that investigators had strong evidence the violence on Jan. 6 was foreseeable to Trump and that he and his allies sought to use it to advance their efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

A BBC spokesperson declined to comment beyond the court filings.

Trump's legal team argued Smith lacks firsthand knowledge of the issues in the case and said any evidence he gathered came from other sources. The president's lawyers also argued Smith has already testified publicly multiple times about his Jan. 6 investigation.

Trump sued the BBC in December over the "Panorama" documentary "Trump: A Second Chance?," which aired shortly before the 2024 presidential election. The program edited together separate portions of Trump's Jan. 6 speech, including his remarks about walking to the Capitol and fighting "like hell."

The BBC later apologized for the edit, saying it created the mistaken impression that Trump had made a direct call for violent action, but denied that the documentary defamed him. The broadcaster has sought to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing in part that the doc was not distributed in the United States and that Trump cannot show the edit caused reputational harm.

Trump's own deposition remains unresolved. In a separate Monday filing, the BBC said Trump had been scheduled to sit for questioning on Oct. 16 but canceled after his lawyers cited "other matters of national importance."

The broadcaster noted that Trump instead spoke at a campaign rally in Dalton, Georgia, that day before traveling to Mar-a-Lago for a Republican National Committee fundraising event. The BBC renewed its request that the court compel Trump to confirm a deposition date and sit for questioning.

A hearing on Trump's deposition dispute is scheduled for Thursday.
