So why, with the first plausible chance at snagging a Texas Senate seat for the Democrats in a generation at risk, has James Talarico ceased campaigning at all?

It’s going on two weeks since Talarico dropped out of sight. His last public appearance was 13 days ago during fundraising trips to LA and New York City. The last confirmed sighting was on September 26 at a Panthers football game. He hasn’t been seen in public since.

Social media speculation has been rife, not to say wild-eyed: Talarico had a breakdown and is recovering in a Houston clinic. He has entered rehab. He is suffering from AIDs.

According to the astute political observer Donald Trump: “He’s a vegan… He’s sick because he’s been forced to eat meat for political reasons, and he’s throwing up all over the place.”

The Talarico campaign has released a statement claiming that he is suffering from the flu. The response was immediate.

Benny Johnson wanted to know how long it takes to recover from flu. And even with a bad case, you can still film a two-minute video clip for release on TikTok.

Clay Travis concluded: “Talarico’s vanishing from the campaign trail makes zero sense. Something is up. This isn’t the flu.”

Blaze Media firebrand Sara Gonzalez says that she has “…received unverified information on James Talarico’s whereabouts. If true, it will END his campaign.” She also asked “…anyone who can verify where James Talarico has been” to contact her.

Even the Paxton campaign overcame its customary somnolence to issue a wanted poster asking for proof that Talarico was alive.

They said they’d settle for a video of Talarico holding a copy of today’s newspaper, or even a doctor’s note. “If James Talarico is too fragile to face Texans, he has no business asking for their vote.”

It gets even worse. According to Ed Morrisey, the Talarico campaign does not have a single event lined up for him for the rest of the month.

This is developing into a Leitmotif of the 2026 midterms: Democrat campaigns falling apart just as they should be revving up for the final lap.

Last week we had Abdul Muhammed el-Sayed losing a key campaign staffer along with the endorsement of the Michigan firefighters union. This week it’s Talarico carried off by the trolls. I could go for more.

There’s no doubt that under the current administration of President Donald Trump so far, the UFO disclosure narrative has gathered momentum.

Borrowing a bit of non-linear storytelling in the style of Christopher Nolan, we jump back to the 2024 presidential transition, when Trump was readying for office.

An extraordinary revelation came from US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who told Rep. Anna Paulina Luna that while he was living on Palm Beach, a group approached him to discuss UAPs.

According to Kennedy, the group included "a very high-level NASA scientist” and “a bunch of Navy SEALs and Green Berets who had been on recovery teams” for UFO crash retrieval programs.

What’s most striking is Kennedy's divulgence that the group had “actually figured out how to call some of the ships in” before adding that they were “under orders to destroy them and recover them.”

Though no specifics were given in terms of tangible evidence, Kennedy added that the group wanted him to go public with the claims. But the fact that he already had “so many counts against me on conspiracy theories” meant that the interaction was left at that.

Wild theories entering the spotlight

Kennedy, who’s no stranger to controversy, has previously spoken out about childhood vaccinations causing autism, Covid-19 ethnic targeting, and CIA involvement in the assassination of his uncle, John F. Kennedy.

And after a brief lull in late summer, as we headed into autumn there were a few instances of whistleblowers speaking more openly and dramatically about recovered craft, and alien encounters.

First was US Air Force veteran Dylan Borland, who claims to have seen UFO craft firsthand and hypothesized that aliens may be focusing on reproducing and replacing humans on earth.

Then came David Grusch, who amped up the noise by claiming that US soldiers have previously shot and killed reptilian aliens, again without specific details.

And as Luna pointed out to Kennedy in their discussion:

People will say a lot, but can you prove it? What does the actual data prove, or can you actually bring forward tangible evidence?

Skepticism meets intrigue on Reddit

It’s quite often the case on Reddit UFO groups that outlandish or unsubstantiated claims get shot down quite easily.

But rather than a community pooh-poohing, a slice of the comments on the r/UFO Subreddit had a different take on what Kennedy said.

@strength-speed said that, despite not being a fan of President Trump, Kennedy's claims fit into the broader narrative of UFO disclosure, and that we should set aside his health policy reputation.

Opponent @blergmonkeys, however, came straight out of the blocks to label Kennedy “a lunatic” and set out reasons that Kennedy might be seeking to distract the audience “from the disaster of the administration,” aiming to get “clicks and views,” or is just plain deluded.

Another Redditor maintained that the claims needed to be examined rather than dismissed outright.

“Whether you believe him or not, he’s saying it, and we need to be pressing these people about it,” read the post.

As another eccentric personality enters the mix, the public might be running out of patience for campfire stories and instead crave hard proof.

US President Donald Trump’s top negotiators are preparing to pitch “new ideas and proposals” aimed at breaking the deadlock in the Ukraine conflict, with talks involving representatives of Kiev and its European backersscheduled to begin in Miami on Friday, according to Reuters and Axios.

US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are expected to hold a two-day working session with the Ukrainian delegation in an effort to develop a unified proposal that could later be presented to the Kremlin.

The pair could then travel to Moscow later this month for another round of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Axios reported, citing a source familiar with the discussions.

According to Reuters, the ideas were developed during and after Witkoff and Kushner’s diplomatic tour of Moscow and Kiev in early September.The pair have since remained in contact with both Russian and Ukrainian officialswhile working on an updated peace initiative.

One proposal reportedly under consideration is a partial ceasefire covering attacks on energy infrastructure and Black Sea shipping. The talks are also expected to address possible security guarantees for Ukraine, a post-conflict economic plan and other elements of a potential settlement.

Witkoff and Kushnermet Trumpon Thursday to present the latest proposals andreceive his input ahead of the Miami talks, according to Axios. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Deputy National Security Adviser Mike Needham also attended the meeting.

Kiev's European backers ‘nervous’ about winter

Kiev will reportedly be represented by Vladimir Zelensky’s chief of staff, Kirill Budanov, intelligence chief Rustem Umerov, diplomatic adviser Sergey Kislitsa and top lawmaker David Arakhamia.

National security advisers from Britain, France and Germany, as well as representatives of NATO and the EU, have also reportedly been invited.

A US source told AFP that European governments have privately complained about soaring energy prices and other economic costs stemming from the conflict, adding that there is growing concern about another winter of hostilities.

“They are all nervous about the winter. It will be a tough winter if the war does not stop,”the source said.

Trump has also repeatedly pressed Zelensky to stop “hurting the world” and halt Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries, arguing that the attacks are worsening a global diesel shortage and driving up fuel costs in the US.

Kremlin agrees with Rubio on ‘stalemate’

The new diplomatic push comes as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the conflict as a “dangerous stalemate,”warning that further escalation could spill beyond Ukraine and trigger a broader confrontation.

“This war needs to end in a negotiated settlement. The sooner, the better,” Rubio told reporters in Lisbon on Thursday, while cautioning that Washington would not invest indefinitely in “pointless processes” that produce no progress.

The Kremlin said it shared Rubio’s assessment of the current diplomatic impasse, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov saying he “agreed” that no clear prospect of a negotiated settlement was currently visible.

He nevertheless reiterated Moscow’s position thatRussia remains open to negotiations, while accusing Kiev of showing no willingness to accept reality and pursue a long-term settlement.

Despite the lack of progress on Ukraine,contacts between Washington and Moscow have continued on other tracks, Peskov added,noting that the two countries are discussing “a whole range” of potentially mutually beneficial economic projects, including possible cooperation in the energy sector.

Avi Loeb says he never said aliens could reveal themselves within 16 days

A media outlet has gotten traction online by claiming UAP researcher Avi Loeb said aliens could reveal themselves within 16 days.

There’s a problem with that: Loeb, a Harvard University astrophysicist, did not say it.

“It’s obvious that there are people who want to get attention ascribing things that I don’t say,” Loeb told “Jesse Weber Live” on Thursday. “In this case, they wanted to get clickbait. They did get it.”

The danger in posting such a “lie,” Loeb said, is that “some people may believe it.”

Loeb, an authority on the topic of UFOs or “unidentified anomalous phenomena,” drew wide attention last year for suggesting comet 3I/ATLAS could be of alien origin because of its unusual signatures.

While Loeb has been open-minded about some UAP theories, he insists science will ultimately decide whether we are alone in the universe.

“It’s really our obligation to figure out who lives in our cosmic neighborhood, and the way to do that is scientifically,” Loeb said.

The outlet that attributed the alien comments to Loeb on social media covers pop culture and sports.

Syria’s new Islamist governmenthas barred women from enrolling in several university and technical programs, drawing public criticism.

The rules for the 2026-2027 academic year affect several institutions, including two universities established in July under Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Al-Sharaa, a former leader of the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), rose to power following the overthrow of Bashar Assad in December 2024. He was appointed transitional president in January 2025 andhas since pledged to build an inclusive government.

According to documents published by the Ministry of Higher Education,women are excluded from military engineering programs, as well as legal and social sciences, management, and economicsat the National University for Defense Sciences. Another institution, the Syrian University for Security Sciences, reserves several programs for men, althoughwomen remain eligible to study cybersecurity.

The restrictions extend to technical institutes specializing in oil and gas, railway transport and radio and television directing. Under theprevious academic year’s rules, women could still enroll in certain oil and gas programs, includingaccounting and precision instruments.

Criticism has come from students and educators. “No one has the right to force me to choose a particular field of study or exclude me from another,” Israa Salloum, a high school graduate preparing to apply to university, told AFP.

A constitutional declaration adopted in March 2025 guarantees women’s right to education.

The rules contrast with recent efforts to expand women’s participation in law enforcement. In September,Syria graduated its first class of 150 female police officers following six months of training.

Since taking power, Syria’s new authorities have faced criticism over measures affecting women’s freedoms. In September, aprominent Damascus school reportedly announced plans to separate male and female students from middle school onward. Four feminist and civil society organizations also accused the authorities in August of restricting freedoms and imposing forms of social control that particularly affect women.

The new admission rules do not include a blanket ban on women studying law or engineering, with such programs remaining available at other Syrian universities.

Japan is taking UFO sightings more seriously

UAP stands for unidentified aerial phenomena, which is a new term for the mystery aircraft once simply called UFOs.

Recently, on August 7, 2026, the U.S. Department of War released more new materials related to UFO sightings around the world.

And now Japan is paying closer attention to these sightings than ever before. The Japanese government has now launched a UFO investigation after the U.S. Department of Defense marked a region as a "hotspot" for sightings.

Here's how the country is looking into this matter so far.

Japan once said UFOs didn’t exist

In February 2018, Japan's government issued an official stance denying the existence of UFOs. It said that “no confirmation has been made of their existence.”

The cabinet's written response also said that there was no special consideration for how to react to unidentified aerial objects.

Mamoru Santo, a former wing commander in the Self-Defense Forces, said he regularly heard about odd sightings from pilots and civilians.

Pilots were reportedly told to stay quiet. According to The History, Santo recalled, "But even when this happened, it was only shared among colleagues and not reported publicly."

Then the sightings became a security issue

Things changed in September 2020, when Defense Minister Taro Kono announced new procedures.

Under the new procedures, Self-Defense Forces personnel must first confirm they are seeing an unidentified object; then they are required to take written and photographic records for analysis.

In a press conference, Kono said, “Frankly speaking, I don’t believe in UFOs,” and he described them as “indistinguishable objects, not objects from space.”

Commenting on the risks, Heigo Sato, who heads the Institute of World Studies at Takushoku University in Tokyo, noted, “The most feared strategy is a surprise attack.”

He added, “Gathering information on currently unknown phenomena is important for security.”

Lights above a nuclear plant pushed lawmakers to act

In late July 2025, four security guards at the Genkai Nuclear Power Station in Saga Prefecture saw three drone-like lights in the night sky. After the investigation, no drone was found, and the exact nature of the lights remains unknown.

Former defense minister Yasukazu Hamada, who leads a parliamentary group studying UAPs, said, “If we cannot identify what it is, it’s impossible to determine whether the Defense Ministry or the National Police Agency should handle it.”

Japan says it is watching, but it won't promise to share

In May 2026, the Pentagon released more than 160 files on UAP sightings, including two videos of objects spotted near Japan.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara responded, “Regarding incidents related to our national security — including UAPs — we are constantly gathering and analyzing information with great interest, while maintaining close coordination with the United States and other countries.”

When asked about when Japan is releasing its own files, he said the government would decide case by case.

Meanwhile, a group of about 80 lawmakers has urged the government to create a dedicated UAP department. As of now, the country does not have its own dedicated UAP department.

JUST IN: Blackwater founder Erik Prince's forces ambushed in Democratic Republic of Congo, leaving 20 people dead or injured, including former UFC fighter and Green Beret Tim Kennedy (wounded), according to Reuters.

Vectus Global, headed by Prince, has reportedly been operating in Congo.

Congo's government says there was an attack on September 17 that left 20 dead or wounded.

Reuters reports that Rwandan forces backing the M23 rebels may have launched a surprise attack after tracking a surveillance drone to their location.

At least seven Congolese were killed and a former member of ⁠New Zealand's Special Forces.

Kennedy and another foreign contractor were reportedly wounded.
