Trump said the U.S. has denuclearized the Islamic Republic and the conflict has changed the country.

President Donald Trump called the American military operation in Iran a “tremendous military success” on Wednesday at a news conference concluding his time at the 2026 NATO Summit.

He also called the conflict a war, though it has yet to be declared a war by Congress.

This week, the president said that the ceasefire with Iran – and the memorandum of understanding that was supposed to be a precursor to a longstanding peace deal between the countries – was over and indicated there would likely be strikes on Iran Wednesday night. Those strikes have begun.

Less than one month ago, the U.S. signed the 14-point agreement establishing conditions for both countries to abide by until a legally binding long-term deal was made. Those conditions included a commitment to halt all fighting for the interim and for Iran to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz. But Iran attacked three commercial ships this week, saying that the U.S. had violated the conditions of the agreement.

“Now, the United States, despite the explicit provision of the fifth clause of this memorandum – which emphasizes the Islamic Republic of Iran's responsibility in determining arrangements for the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz – has challenged this clause,” wrote Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei on X, “and in practice, violated the agreement's structure through its unilateral actions and also aggressive attacks against Iran.”

The BBC and others have reported that the UN’s International Maritime Organization, the U.S. and its regional allies have been using a shipping route along the coast of Oman that isn’t the route Iran advised.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will steadfastly pursue the protection of its national interests and the exercise of its sovereignty,” Baghaei added.

When asked about the conflict Wednesday, however, Trump said the U.S. has denuclearized the Islamic Republic and the conflict has changed the country.

“I was there for one reason: that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon…. And that’s happened. They will never have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said. “That stuff is so far down under a mountain… [it would] take months to get it out.”

He also talked about how the U.S. has “decimated” Iran’s military and the conflict has caused “350% inflation,” up from 5% or 6% at the start of the operation.

“They were the bully of the Middle East, so they’re a much different country now,” he continued.

At an address he gave at the World Economic Forum in January – about one month before the U.S. launched Operation Epic Fury – the president said the U.S. had “wiped out the Iran nuclear threat like nobody can believe,” referencing the June 2025 mission that struck three Iranian nuclear facilities.

The former Senate majority leader hasbeen hospitalized for nearly a month, but his aides refuse to say why. Reports indicate that he was found unconsciouswith cardiac arrest at his home on June 14. McConnell, 84, has been in the hospital ever since.

On Tuesday, several McConnell allies claimed they spoke via phone with the senator.

CNN commentator Scott Jennings saidhe spoke with McConnell on Tuesday morning for nearly 20 minutes about political issues.Jennings insisted that despite speaking with McConnell, he still did not know why the senator was in the hospital beyond what had been publicly reported. Additionally, Sen. Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) and Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-WY) also claimed they spoke with McConnell via phone about political matters.

On Wednesday, Trump boarded Air Force One after attending a NATO summit in Turkey. He held a press gaggle on the plane, where a reporter asked if he knew McConnell’s status.

“Have you spoken to Senator Mitch McConnell?” she asked.

“No,” Trump replied.

“How’s he doing?”

“I have no idea,” the president said. “I have no idea how he’s doing.”

Trump has occasionally been critical of McConnell and his wife Elaine Chao, who served as the president’s Transportation secretary during the first administration. After his first term, Trump repeatedly mocked her, calling her “Coco Chow.”

McConnell’s office is not the only one that has been less than forthright as to the whereabouts of an absentee lawmaker.

Rep. Tom Kean (R-NJ) returned to Congress last week after a mysterious absence of nearly four months. In a floor speech, he explained that he had undergone treatment for depression. While he was missing, Kean’s office repeatedly said he was being treated for a “medical condition,” but did not specify.

I watched a good portion of the NATO summit, and other related videos regarding Israel and Iran, and want to put some things into perspective, for what it is worth. The NATO secretary was right, thanks to you, NATO increased it's spending, supplied many US jobs for weapons, and allowed 5k sorties from EU bases. What he didn't mention about those sorties, was how many NATO planes participated, which was about zero. We paid for those bases too, so we have a right to use them too. Israel should not have a problem with Abraham accord states to supply a peace force. Give Turkey F15s instead, Netanyahu should have no complaints. Giving Israel 90 F35s, just emboldened them to be more aggressive, if there was a way, I would take at least half of them back. Once Iran signs the Abraham accords, and allow the straits to flow unimpeded, and vows not to kill non-violent protestors, then Israel should start process of giving up their nukes in good faith of the peace process. At the same time, once Iran gets temporary relief, they must allow inspectors and the US to go in and get their nuclear material. Once the nuclear threat is cleared, the remaining 67% of sanctions should be lifted from Iran, and all will live in peace. Remember when the US had operations in the Red Sea against the Houthis that were attacking shipping in response to Israel's war on Gaza, I asked Lloyd Austin to put together an international armada, and send a US Mil humanitarian relief effort to Gaza for a few reasons: to stop the invasion, to assure no weapons were getting in against Israel, to provide relief for the Palestinians thereby crushing the Houthis argument for aggression. The armada came for about 2 weeks then the international community left, and no humanitarian relief and buffer was offered. That buffer is the same thing that Jared and Steve recently tried to put together with investments. You need assets and a peace keeping force, then Hamas will disarm, and it wouldn't be wise for them to trust Israel. If you offer these things, all should be happy because all security concerns will have been met.

Split the rare earth fortune with Ukraine at 50%, until they pay back our $500 billion, and when that is satisfied, give them 100%. The US should maintain the Crimea port permanently to maintain lasting peace. Everyone should be happy, because all security concerns have been met. Feel free to alter the work flow as you see fit in order to guarantee security for all. Upon agreement to this proposal, all hostilities should stop and a cease fire should be agreed upon.
