The growing anger over the AI industry’s obsessionwith building massive and resource-intensive data centers across the country is as palpable than ever.

A recent survey by the Pew Research Centerhighlighted widespread public concernover the facilities’environmental harms, effects onhome energy costs, and the quality of life of nearby residents.

These concerns do seem justified. Experts have foundthat data centers can spike local electricity prices, generate copious amounts of greenhouse gases, and place a major strain on freshwater resources.

Now, a self-described content creator and digital artist named Will Hollingsworth who spoke up during a city council meeting in Ravenna, Ohio — a small town of 11,000 residents — is turning heads with his passionate argument against data centers.The council’s chambers became overwhelmedwith a crowd of almost 100 people during the April 10 meeting, which hosted a debate over aproposed 12-month moratorium on data centerconstruction in the area inspired by a nearby community’s own moratorium.

Hollingsworth’sfour-minute speech perfectly summarizes why the backlashis starting to reach a tipping point, as more politicians are calling for a moratorium on new construction.

“Thesefacilities can use millions of gallons of water per day,” he said, as seen in a video that went viral over the weekend. “We are being asked to drain our reservoirs so a chatbot can write a poemor so our sheriff can generate a picture of himself standing next to Bigfoot,” he added, picking up laughter in the room.

Hollingsworth said thathe used to rely on AI at his job overseeing videocontent production at a mattress company, making his point of view particularly noteworthy.He explained that he used to feed AI image generating app Midjourney “promptsto create the perfect commercial,training the very machine that would eventually replace me as three months laterthey would lay me off.”

“They want us to trust a trillion dollar industry that tells us with a straight facethat they.can suck five million gallons of water out of our ground a day,” Hollingsworth argued, to“use it as a liquid heat sink, andreturn it to our rivers without a single consequence.”

Yetthe water “does not stay in the loop,” he explained,but “evaporates into the sky by millions of gallons,” while AI companiesdownplaythe amount of “forever chemical runoff” which is used to “bleed the lines to remove toxic sludge.”

“They say the water is filled once and recycled forever,” Hollingsworth said. “In a laboratory, that might be true.But we aren’t living in a laboratory. We’re living in Ohio.”

The content creator also pointed outhow few jobs these data centerscould offer, despite being a massive strain on resources.

“A big employer who uses the water of 50,000 people… which only hires about ten peopleis not an employer,” Hollingsworth said. “They are an extraction.”

“I am not a cynic when it comes to technology,” he concluded.“I am a believer in community. I believe that a drop of clean water for a Ravenna child is worth more than a billion AI generated images. Let us choose the child.”

His powerful speech clearly struck a chord. Beyond the assembled committee voting for a one-year moratorium on all new data centers in the area, other netizens lauded him for speaking up.

“There it is right there,” one Reddit user wrote. “Lies, lies and more lies from megacorps investedup to their eyeballs in havingjust a few people in government believe them.”

“God damn that was good,” another user wrote. “Seriously this should be used as a script in every county these corporations are hustling.”

The fight is far from over. Ravenna is only one of several locations across the state being eyed for data center expansion projects. And plenty of other battles are being fought in other parts of the country as well, as the anger continues to grow.

Just earlier this week, voters in a small town outside of St. Louis, Missouri,were furious after city council approved a $6 billion data center. As Politico reports, local residents showed up in droves, successfully unseating four incumbents mere days later.

“I do hope other towns stand up and speak out like I did,” Hollingsworth later argued in a comment on Reddit. “I know I’m not the only good orator here in the country, maybe this will inspire a wave of political action!”

SECWAR: Flu Vaccine Optional

Annual influenza vaccines are no longer mandatory, said Secretary of War Pete Hegseth in a video posted today on social media.

"The notion that a flu vaccine must be mandatory for every service member, everywhere, in every circumstance, at all times, is just overly broad and not rational," the secretary said. "Our new policy is simple: If you, an American warrior entrusted to defend this nation, believe that the flu vaccine is in your best interest, then you are free to take it; you should. But we will not force you."

The secretary signed a memorandum that provides updated guidance that states, effective immediately, the annual influenza vaccine is voluntary for all active and reserve component service members and War Department civilian personnel.

The new mandate follows similar department efforts regarding the COVID-19 vaccine.

Between Aug. 24, 2021, and Jan. 10, 2023, the department required service members to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Over 8,000 service members were involuntarily discharged from the military for refusing the vaccine. Hegseth said that won't happen again.

"Our men and women in uniform were forced to choose between their conscience and their country, even when those decisions posed no threat to our military readiness," Hegseth said. "That era of betrayal is over. Under President [Donald J.] Trump, the War Department continues to take decisive action to once again restore freedom and strength to our joint force. We're seizing this moment to discard any absurd overreaching mandates that only weaken our warfighting capabilities."

Influenza vaccines, he said, are examples of overreaching mandates. The secretary said the decision to make it optional is common sense for the War Department and the service members.

"It's the kind of common-sense approach we are undertaking in this department," he said. "Rest assured that under President Trump, the War Department will always honor our brave warriors and do everything we can to restore the American people's trust in their military for generations to come."

Southern Poverty Law Center says it faces a Justice Department criminal probe over paid informants

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Southern Poverty Law Center says it’s the subject of a criminal investigation by the Justice Department and faces possible charges over its past use of paid informants to infiltrate extremist groups.

The civil rights group made the announcement on Tuesday, saying President Donald Trump’s administration appears to be preparing legal action against it or some of its employees.

“Although we don’t know all the details, the focus appears to be on the SPLC’s prior use of paid confidential informants to gather credible intelligence on extremely violent groups,” CEO Bryan Fair said in a statement.

The Justice Department had no immediate comment.

The Southern Poverty Law Center previously paid informants to infiltrate extremist groups and gather information on their activities, often sharing it with local and federal law enforcement, Fair said. It was used to monitor threats of violence, he said, adding that the program was kept quiet to protect the safety of informants.

NASA Breaks Silence on Deaths and Disappearances of Scientists With Ties to Space Tech

The Trump administration has launched an investigation into the disappearances and deaths of 11 American scientists, the vast majority of whom were associated with federal nuclear or space research programs.

Three of the scientists had direct ties to NASA, and the agency has finally broken its silence on the matter.

“NASA is coordinating and cooperating with the relevant agencies in relation to the missing scientists,” agency Press Secretary Bethany Stevens said Monday.

“At this time, nothing related to NASA indicates a national security threat. The agency is committed to transparency and will provide more information as able.”

Authorities have maintained that there is no confirmed connection between the 11 scientists, but the fact that they were all involved in highly valued, strategically sensitive fields has drawn concern from federal officials.

Those fields include nuclear weapons security and defense systems, NASA space missions and asteroid tracking, fusion energy and plasma physics, advanced aerospace and military technologies, and biomedical research.

“We’re very concerned about this. This is a national security concern. This would suggest that something sinister may be happening,” House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) said during a Sunday appearance on Fox News’s Fox & Friends.

One missing, two dead NASA scientists

Three of the 11 scientists at the center of this investigation were employees at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Monica Jacinto Reza, a 60-year-old aerospace engineer who worked on rocket engines, disappeared on June 22, 2025, while hiking in Los Angeles County.

Frank Maiwald, a senior radio frequency engineer who worked at JPL for more than 25 years, died on July 4, 2024, at the age of 61.

And Michael David Hicks, a JPL research scientist who studied the physical properties of comets and asteroids and worked on planetary defense projects, died on July 30, 2023, at the age of 59.

Again, there is no confirmed connection between these two deaths and Reza’s disappearance aside from their employment at NASA JPL, which could be coincidental.

Swirling speculation

Tabloids and social media have been abuzz with speculation about the circumstances of these 11 deaths and disappearances.

Some have suggested that Reza’s disappearance may be connected to that of William McCasland, a retired U.S. Air Force general who was reported missing on February 27, 2026.

Various reports have alleged that Reza and McCasland had a professional relationship, but Gizmodo was unable to verify that claim.

Conspiracy theories surrounding McCasland’s disappearance have centered on his former role as commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson, an air base surrounded by UFO theories.

There is no evidence to suggest that Maiwald and Hicks died under suspicious circumstances, though their causes of death have not been made public.

Considering that two of the 11 missing or dead scientists—Nuno Lureiro of MIT and Carl Grillmar of Caltech—were shot and killed in targeted attacks, it’s understandable that some would be quick to jump to conclusions about the others.

But at this point, there simply isn’t enough evidence pointing to a shared motive or pattern behind the remaining cases.

As NASA works with the agencies leading this investigation, we could get more clarity on the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Mailwald and Hicks, and the disappearance of Reza, but that remains to be seen.

Iran diplomacy wobbles as factions compete to avoid looking soft on US15 hours ago

Apparent divisions over negotiations with the United States may have strengthened the most confrontational elementswithin Iran’s political landscape and facilitated the rise of new hardline actors.

Backed by the more uncompromising faction within the senior ranks of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps(IRGC), these emerging hardliners have been testing their ability to disrupt talks that already face significant obstacles.

Within the IRGC itself, commanders appear to be split into at least two camps. One faction, associated with IRGC Commander Ahmad Vahidi and Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Secretary Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, is widely described by Iranian observers as favoring continuation of the conflict.

The opposing faction aligns more closely with former IRGC Air Force commander and current Majles Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. He is believed to retain influence within the IRGC’s aerospace branch and to maintain ties to the household of Iran’s slain leader Ali Khamenei, including his son Mojtaba.

Despite their rivalry, both factions share a core objective: ensuring the survival of the Islamic Republic. Their disagreement lies in the methods and strategic direction needed to achieve that goal.

Similar infighting existed before the latest war and under Ali Khamenei, but the absence of a figure with comparable authority appears to have widened the field to rival forces.

Among civilian political actors, many have attempted to distance themselves from the ultraconservative Paydari Party, which hasbeen the loudest anti-American voicein Tehran for some time. Yet their ideological and personal links to Paydari figures remain evident.

Even Ghalibaf, now seen by many as the de facto leader of Iran’s “pragmatic” camp, has referred to these actors as a radical militia. He has also hinted at their connections to Paydari-aligned figures such as former nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili and hardline lawmaker Amir Hossein Sabeti, both of whom journalists in Tehranaccuse of enticing anti-talks rallies.

Over the weekend, an X account identifying itself as “Fans of Saeed Jalili” sharply criticized Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, accusing them of falsely suggesting that their more moderate positions toward Washington had been endorsed by Mojtaba Khamenei.

The account demanded that Mojtaba appear publicly—or at least release an audio or video message—to clarify his political intentions. The post was deleted within an hour, and Jalili later distanced himself from its content, though he did not deny links to the account.

Ghalibaf has also criticized calls to continue the war, referring to the large crowds of mostly young Iranianswho have taken to the streets nightly to demand renewed attacks on the United States and Israel.

In an unprecedented televised address on Sunday,he told the nation that Iran “controls the battlefield,” but acknowledged that “the US and Israeli militaries are far strongerand more experienced than Iran’s.”

Meanwhile, several members of parliament—including Ali Khezrian, Hamid Rasai and Morteza Mahmoudi—have beenreported to be encouraging efforts to unseat Ghalibaf as speakerand to push for the impeachment of Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Whether these pro-war factions are strong enough to derail the Islamabad talks remains uncertain. The deeper issue is that while Ali Khamenei often managed factional rivalries to maintain control, the emerging leadership—what President Trump has referred to as the “new regime in Iran”—has yet to demonstrate the same ability to balance competing force.

Under Khamenei, domestic politics remained a relatively contained arena in which rival factions competed but ultimately operated within boundaries he enforced.

The new leadership now faces a far more volatile environment: major military powers are directly engaged in the region, and the Middle East remains perched on a geopolitical powder keg.

Space Health Research Fills Day Before Cargo Craft Departs

The trash-packed Progress 93 cargo spacecraft from Roscosmos will depart the International Space Station later today completing a seven-month mission docked to the Zvezda service module’s aft port.

Progress 93 will conduct an automated deorbit maneuver several hours later and reenter the Earth’s atmosphere above the South Pacific Ocean for a fiery, but safe disposal.

The Roscosmos resupply ship arrived at the orbital outpost on September 13, 2025, delivering about three tons of food, fuel, and supplies two days after it launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Meanwhile, the seven-member Expedition 74 crew kicked off the work week with a full schedule of space research investigating blood stem cells, plant-microbe interactions, and more to benefit human health on and off the Earth.

The orbital residents also serviced a variety of lab hardware to ensure ongoing science operations while maintaining space station life support systems.

NASA flight engineer Jack Hathaway had a busy day on Monday loading a microscope with blood stem cell samples and installing Earth observation and biology research equipment on an external platform.

Hathway spent the first half of his shift swapping sample hardware containing blood stem cells inside the KERMIT fluorescent microscope.

Scientists on the ground are using KERMIT’s remote imaging capabilities to view the samples with an eye toward enabling stem cell production in space and developing blood disease and cancer therapies.

Next, Hathaway installed three science payloads on the NanoRacks External Platform for placement outside the Kibo laboratory module in the vacuum of space.

Two payloads will test Earth observation technologies including ultra-high resolution hyperspectral imagery and a device that measures radio signals passing through Earth’s ionosphere.

A third investigation will observe how round worms adapt to weightlessness to identify space-sensitive proteins and evaluate therapies to protect mobility and neuromuscular health during a spaceflight.

NASA flight engineers Chris Williams and Jessica Meir each worked on a different botany investigation for two separate purposes on Monday.

Williams checked on alfalfa plants growing inside the Columbus laboratory module’s Veggie facility and videotaped the operation of the botany research gear.

The Veg-06 study is exploring beneficial plant-microbe interactions and whether organic carbon and nitrogen can be recycled to support plant growth for food production in space.

Meir videotaped packs of Japanese rice samples that will be returned to Earth for cultivation promoting space education and space commercialization.

Flight engineer Sophie Adenot of ESA (European Space Agency) installed the AstroPi imaging computer inside the Destiny laboratory module’s Earth observation window for a pair of student challenges.

The first challenge will see students using sensor data and Earth imagery collected from AstroPi to accurately calculate the space station’s orbital speed.

During the second challenge students will write code creating pixel art imagery on AstroPi’s LED matrix to be shared back on Earth.

Station commander Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and flight engineer Sergei Mikaev, both Roscosmos cosmonauts, joined each other at the beginning of their shift and trained to use simulation software that prepares a crew for returning to Earth aboard a Soyuz spacecraft.

Kud-Sverchkov then moved on to ventilation system maintenance inside Zvezda while Mikaev studied artificial intelligence tools to boost crew efficiency.

Roscosmos flight engineer Andrey Fedyaev strapped an acoustic sensor to his neck that recorded his breathing for a space respiration study early in his shift.

Next, Fedyaev worked on a laptop computer that supports the European robotic arm then ensured flow valves inside the Nauka science module were safely configured and properly operating.

NASA’s Curiosity Finds Organic Molecules Never Seen Before on Mars

After years of lab work, the results are in: A rock that NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover drilled and analyzed in 2020 includes the most diverse collection of organic molecules ever found on the Red Planet.

Of the 21 carbon-containing molecules identified in the sample, seven of them were detected for the first time on Mars.

Scientists have no way of knowing whether these organic molecules were created by biologic or geologic processes — either path is possible — but their discovery renewed confirmation that ancient Mars had the right chemistry to support life.

What’s more, the molecules join a growing list of compounds known to be preserved in rocks even after billions of years of exposure on Mars to radiation, which can break down these molecules over time.

The findings are detailed in a new paper published Tuesday in Nature Communications.

The rock sample, nicknamed “Mary Anning 3” after an English fossil collector and paleontologist, was collected on a part of Mount Sharp covered by lakes and streams billions of years ago.

This oasis surged and dried up multiple times in the planet’s ancient past, eventually enriching the area with clay minerals, which are especially good at preserving organic compounds — carbon-containing molecules that are the building blocks of life and are found throughout the solar system.

Among the newly identified molecules is a nitrogen heterocycle, a ring of carbon atoms that includes nitrogen. This kind of molecular structure is considered a predecessor to RNA and DNA, two nucleic acids that are key to genetic information.

“That detection is pretty profound because these structures can be chemical precursors to more complex nitrogen-bearing molecules,” said the paper’s lead author, Amy Williams of the University of Florida in Gainesville. “Nitrogen heterorcycles have never been found before on the Martian surface or confirmed in Martian meteorites.”

Another exciting discovery was benzothiophene, a carbon- and sulfur-bearing molecule that’s been found in many meteorites.

In 2020, during the first Trump Administration, the United States, led by NASA and the U.S. Department of State, joined with seven other founding nations to establish the Artemis Accords, responding to the growing interest in lunar activities by both governments and private companies.

The accords introduced the first set of practical principles aimed at enhancing the safety and coordination between like-minded nations as they explore the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

No Iran delegation sent to US talks yet as truce expiry nears

Iran said Tuesday it has not yet sent a delegation for new peace talks with the United States,as the temporary ceasefire which paused the Middle East war was set to expire.

Iran and the US have accused each other of breaching the two-week truce that is set to end by Wednesday, as uncertainty grows over a push to stop the war from resuming.

During initial talks in Pakistan earlier this month,the highest-level discussions between the foes since the founding of the Islamic republic in 1979, analysts pointed to the seniority of the delegations as an indicator of a willingness to strike a deal.

But those talks collapsed without an agreement, with Iran since closing the Strait of Hormuz again and US President Donald Trump announcing a blockade of Iranian ports.

“So far, no delegation from Iran has departed for Islamabad, Pakistan; whether it is the main or subsidiary delegation; primary or secondary,” Iranian state TV said, dismissing reports suggesting otherwise.

Trump has accused Iran of firing on ships in the crucial trade route it has choked, while Tehran says the US blockade and seizure of a ship violated the ceasefire deal.

Iranian officials say they feel the Trump administration has not acted in good faith in negotiationsand refused to back down from what it called excessive demands.

Its parliament speaker said thecountry would not accept talks “under the shadow of threats” from the US leader and would “show new cards on the battlefield” if conflict resumed.

Butresidents in the Iraniancapital who spoke to Paris-based AFP journalistssay life has only got worse, squeezed by the government and the war’s impact.

“This cursed ceasefire has broken us. There is no light at the end of the tunnel,” said Saghar, 39.

“The situation is terrible. I don’t know anyone around me who is doing well.”

‘Bombs start’

The truce theoretically ends overnight Tuesday, though in comments to Bloomberg, Trump said the end was a day later,on Wednesday evening Washington time and it would be “highly unlikely” he would extend the truce.

Trump told PBS Newsthat Iran was “supposed to be there” at the talks in Pakistan.

“We agreed to be there,” he said, warning that if the ceasefire expired “then lots of bombs start going off”.

He said theUS blockade of Iran’s ports would not end until there was a deal, in which Washington is pressing for Iranian concessions on its contested nuclear programme.

Experts said Iran’s signalling was part of a bid to put pressure on Washington, with its leadership wary of signing a deal after US strikes last year in the middle of diplomatic efforts.

“The current standoff between the United States and Iran is no longer a clash of capabilitiesbut rather a struggle of political endurance and bargaining leverage,” Daniel Byman of the Center for Strategic and International Studies wrote in a commentary.

Trump said he was not under any time pressure despite the ceasefire deadline.

“I read the Fake News saying that I am under ‘pressure’ to make a Deal. THIS IS NOT TRUE! I am under no pressure whatsoever, although, it will all happen, relatively quickly!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Despite the ongoing brinkmanship, oil prices fell on Tuesday while stocks rose on lingering hopes for a deal to end the conflict.

In Islamabad, heavily armed police and soldiers on Tuesday secured the city’s government quarter, which was virtually shut down.

That included the Serena hotel, which hosted the last round of negotiations and where guests had been asked to vacate the premises in recent days.

The rest of the city also saw a beefed up police presence, with offices, businesses and schools braced for shutdown orders.

Some schools and universities had already moved their students to distance learning for the week, and city authorities have banned the entry of trucks and other heavy vehicles.

New Lebanon talks

A separate 10-day ceasefire agreed between Israel and Lebanon was announced on Friday and included Hezbollah, whose rocket fire in support of Iran drew Lebanon into the war.

Israel and Lebanon, which have no diplomatic relations, will hold a second round of talks in Washington on Thursday, a State Department official told AFP.

Sporadic violence has continued and Israel’s military warned civilians against returning to dozens of villages in southern Lebanon, claiming Hezbollah’s activities were violating the truce.

Israeli attacks on Lebanon have killed at least 2,387 people since the start of the war, a Lebanese government body said in its latest toll.

New Glenn grounded after launch issue

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket is grounded for now after a launch anomaly left a broadband satellite stuck in an orbit too low to be usable. AST SpaceMobile says the satellite must be deorbited.

“This is a significant setback, absolutely no doubt about it,” said Dr. Ken Kremer with Space UpClose.

Blue Origin is leading the investigation into what went wrong during the second stage of the launch. According to Blue Origin CEO David Limp, early indications suggest that one of the BE-3U engines did not produce enough thrust to place the satellite in its planned orbit.

AST SpaceMobile says the financial hit should be covered by insurance, and the company isn’t slowing down. It still plans to launch new satellites into low Earth orbit every one to two months, using a mix of launch providers.

“They are expecting to launch more versions of the satellite with other launch providers, so they’re not totally dependent on Blue Origin,” Kremer said. The FAA is also involved, overseeing the investigation.

In a statement, the agency says a return to flight of the New Glenn vehicle is based on the FAA determining that any system, process, or procedure related to the mishap does not affect public safety.

The future of U.S. Space Command's permanent warfighting headquarters took shape Monday when Gen. Stephen Whiting, USSPACECOM commander, shared a conceptual rendering of the planned facility at Redstone Arsenal — offering the public its first look at the command's future home.

The reveal came during a luncheon address to the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce's annual Congressional fly-in, where roughly 200 business, civic, and military-community leaders from the Huntsville and Madison County area had gathered in Washington for two days of meetings and advocacy on Capitol Hill.

USSF terminates contract for the Global Positioning System Next Generation Operational Control System

The Global Positioning System Next Generation Operational Control System program was cancelled by the Defense Acquisition Executive on April 17, based upon the recommendation of the acting service acquisition executive.

OCX was intended to update command and control of the GPS satellite constellation, replacing the current system, known as the Architecture Evolution Plan, as well as replacing the Launch, Anomaly and Disposal Operations system.

However, the program was unable to deliver needed capabilities on an operationally relevant timeline at an acceptable level of risk to meet the GPS constellation modernization needs.

“It’s important we refine and update acquisition processes to prioritize rapid, incremental capability delivery versus complex ‘all or nothing’ system deliveries,” said Acting Service Acquisition Executive Tom Ainsworth.

“The Department of War has made clear that we need to deliver warfighting capability at a faster rate.

We must continue to work with industry to meet the needs of our warfighters as we focus on delivering the right technology on the right timeline to enhance our capabilities and maintain space superiority.”

In July 2025, following a multi-year regimen of factory testing, the Space Force contractually accepted OCX from Raytheon and began extensive integrated systems testing to resolve liens carried over from factory testing, as well as to ensure the system could operate within the broader GPS enterprise of ground systems, satellites, and user equipment.

As of January 2026, the program cost was approximately $6.27 billion which included complete Raytheon funding to date and other government costs, such as the cost of government testing and support costs to the OCX acquisition program office.

“Regrettably, extensive system issues arose during the integrated testing of OCX with the broader GPS enterprise,” said Mission Delta 31 Commander Col. Stephen Hobbs.

GPS III-8 Launch Succeeds, Bolstering National Defense and Economy as America Marks 250th Anniversary

The U.S. Space Force successfully launched Global Positioning Satellite III-8 on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 40. The mission delivered the final satellite in the GPS III series into orbit.

It reinforces the critical role of space-based positioning, navigation and timing in safeguarding the nation and powering its economy as the United States celebrates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Space Systems Command and Space Launch Delta 45 played pivotal roles in the mission’s success. SSC acquired, developed and fielded the GPS satellite while managing the National Security Space Launch program.

SLD 45, as the operator of the Eastern Range, provided range safety, launch control and infrastructure that turned a complex mission into another routine success.

The delta’s Guardians and Airmen secured the high-tempo launch environment at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, supporting national security, civil and commercial missions alike.

U.S. Space Force Col. Brian L. Chatman, commander of Space Launch Delta 45, highlighted the delta’s excellence.

“Our combined efforts across the Delta drove us to a record-breaking 109 space launches in 2025, cementing our status, once again, as the most productive spaceport in the world,” Chatman said.

“I am looking forward to working alongside each of you for another record-setting year!”

The successful GPS III-8 launch advances that record-setting momentum.

GPS III satellites deliver three times greater accuracy and eight times better resistance to jamming than earlier versions. Equipped with the military’s M-code signal, they give warfighters a decisive edge in contested environments.

The satellites enable precise navigation for aircraft, ships, ground forces and precision-guided munitions even when adversaries attempt to disrupt signals.

This space access mission delivers resilient positioning, navigation and timing that directly supports joint warfighting lethality and rapid reconstitution of space-based assets.

The benefits of this constellation extend far beyond the battlefield. GPS underpins trillions of dollars in U.S. economic activity each year. It supports aviation, maritime navigation, financial transactions, power-grid synchronization and emergency response for civil and commercial users worldwide.

GPS III satellites enhance this with the new L1C civil signal, delivering more reliable service to billions of users and supporting American commerce and daily life.

“Space capabilities are a core, vital interest of the United States,” Chatman said. “They not only enable joint warfighters to deter aggression, fight and win, but also underpin our nation’s economy.”

This mission exemplifies the U.S. Space Force’s core purpose. Established to organize, train and equip forces for operations in, from and to space, the service guarantees the nation’s access to the ultimate high ground.

In a domain where adversaries seek to challenge U.S. advantages, the Space Force delivers resilient capabilities that deter conflict and underwrite American prosperity.

“Nobody wants a fight in space, but if our adversaries try to take offensive actions against our space assets, we will be ready to rapidly reconstitute space-based capabilities,” Chatman said.
