White House 'circulating'17-page executive order
draft to declare emergency over voting
President Donald Trump, who has insisted on federalizing voting and who issued an executive order last March to pressure states to require proof of citizenship to register voters, is reportedly now being urged to declare an emergency over voting.
“Pro-Trump activists who say they are in coordination with the White House are circulating a 17-page draft executive order that claims China interfered in the 2020 election as a basis to declare a national emergency that would unlock extraordinary presidential power over voting,” The Washington Post reported in an exclusive.
“President Donald Trump has repeatedly previewed a plan to mandate voter ID and ban mail ballots in November’s midterm elections, and the activists expect their draft will figure into Trump’s promised executive order on the issue.”
According to Florida lawyer Peter Ticktin, who is advocating for a presidential order on voting, “we have a situation where the president is aware that there are foreign interests that are interfering in our election processes.”
“That causes a national emergency where the president has to be able to deal with it,” Ticktin told the Post.
Claiming there is an emergency would allow the president to ban voting by mail and voting machines “as the vectors of foreign interference, Ticktin argued.”
Trump has repeatedly urged Republicans to pass the SAVE Act, which critics say could disenfranchise millions of American citizens who do not currently have a passport or access to their birth certificates. It could also disenfranchise people who have married and changed their names but did not do so on all their legal documents.
“Trump has said that if the bill fails, he will act unilaterally to impose the changes for the midterms,” the Post reported.

Bondi’s DOJ Still Refusing To Disclose Gov’t Payments To Twitter During Peak Censorship
President Donald Trump’s Justice Department is continuing to conceal details of payments the government made to Twitter amid its push to censor “misinformation” online.
Judge James Boasberg, an Obama appointee, agreed that the Department of Justice (DOJ) can withhold the FBI’s quarterly payments to Twitter for “legal-process requests” between 2016 to 2023 in a Feb. 4 opinion.
The FBI paid Twitter nearly $3.5 million between October 2019 and February 2021, an email in the “Twitter Files” reported by journalist Michael Shellenberger revealed. The exact purpose of the payment, which took place during peak government pressure on platforms to patrol content about COVID-19, remains unclear.
Judicial Watch sued in October 2023 to obtain records of any payments after the FBI “failed to respond adequately” to their initial Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request seeking details about the payments in December 2022.
“These records were created as part of serving subpoenas, warrants, and other requests on Twitter to retrieve information that would help the FBI investigate crimes and national-security threats,” Boasberg wrote in his Feb. 4 opinion. “The investigatory activities that gave rise to the documents were thus related to enforcing federal laws and maintaining national security, and there was a rational relationship between those investigations and the Bureau’s law-enforcement duties.”
While Twitter already releases semi-annual reports showing how many “legal process requests” it received and complied with, making quarterly payments for FBI-specific requests public could add detail that reveals “how, when, and under which circumstances certain techniques are employed by law enforcement and investigative agencies,” Boasberg wrote.
Internal documents released in the Twitter Files revealed in 2023 how government officials flagged posts deemed COVID-19 “misinformation” for the company to take down.

Former General Manager for U.S. Defense Contractor Sentenced to 87 Months for Selling Stolen Trade Secrets to Russian Broker
Peter Williams, 39, an Australian national, was sentenced in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to 87 months in prison for selling his employer’s trade secrets — sensitive and protected cyber-exploit components — to a Russian cyber-tools broker, announced the Department of Justice. In addition to the 87-month prison term, U.S. District Court Judge AliKhan for the District of Columbia ordered Williams to serve three years of supervised release with special conditions, to forfeit a money judgment of $1.3 million, cryptocurrency and property to include a house, and luxury items such as watches and jewelry. The Court also set a restitution hearing for May 12, 2026.
“Williams exploited his senior role at a U.S. defense contractor to enrich himself at the expense of the United States and his employer,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg. “The tools he compromised were intended to protect this Nation; instead, he auctioned them off to a Russian bidder. We are committed to ensuring that those who abuse their access to sensitive information and thereby harm our national security face severe consequences.”
“Peter Williams stole a U.S. defense contractor’s trade secrets about highly sensitive cyber capabilities and sold them to a broker whose clients include the Russian government, putting our national security and countless potential victims at risk,” said Assistant Director Roman Rozhavsky of the FBI’s Counterintelligence and Espionage Division. “The FBI and our partners remain unwavering in our commitment to protecting America’s critical technologies, and we will ensure any who attempt to profit at our nation’s expense face the full weight of the criminal justice system. The missing hardware has fueled long-running suspicions that Epstein may have secretly recorded encounters inside his homes, potentially for blackmail.
Adding to the intrigue, emails reportedly reference a Logitech cloud server containing camera recordings from Epstein’s island, data that allegedly could not be physically destroyed.
The technician responsible for installing recording equipment on Epstein’s private island in 2014, Jermaine Ruan, was later named as a $1 million beneficiary in Epstein’s trust.
Ruan handled cameras and networking systems at Epstein’s property known as “LSJ” (Little Saint James) and later transitioned the island’s systems to Ubiquiti equipment beginning in late 2017.
He now works for the U.S. Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections.

Lutnick claimed he cut ties with Epstein in 2005 over a “disgusting” incident.
The files revealed Lutnick brought his wife and children to Epstein’s “Pedophile Island” in 2012, even after Epstein pled guilty to sex crimes with a minor.
Megyn Kelly was outraged that Lutnick’s dishonesty could allow the media to attack President Trump and that Lutnick should face consequences.
“Why would you be so reckless, and where’s your damn apology?” Kelly exclaimed.
Kelly also compared Lutnick to James Clapper, Barack Obama’s Director of National Intelligence, who lied to Congress about Obama illegally spying on Americans.
“You make yourself into a James Clapper. This is supposed to be a more transparent administration, and what President Trump doesn’t need is a liar in the position of commerce secretary, about something as serious as your connections with Jeffrey Epstein, and it was such a bald-faced lie.”
Epstein’s island was where he committed hideous sex crimes, and Kelly couldn’t believe that not only did Lutnick go into business with Epstein, but that he took his kids to “Pedophile Island.”
“Like, not only was he in a room with him, he went to the guy’s island! He started a business with him, reports CBS! I mean, about as bold as you could get,” Kelly added.
Kelly said that at the very least, Lutnick owes an apology to New York Post columnist Miranda Devine for falsely telling her that he ended his relationship with Epstein in 2005.

Massive Buildup Against Iran Continues: F-22s to Israel, More F-35s and F-15Es to Europe

The Air Force has surged F-22 Raptor air superiority fighter jets and aerial refueling tankers to Israel for possible combat operations against Iran, as the Trump administration continues to weigh embarking on an air campaign against the Iranian regime.
And more fighters appear to be possibly making their way to the Middle East, with fresh F-35 Lightning II and F-15E Strike Eagle jets arriving Feb. 26 at RAF Lakenheath in England, a base which is often used as a stopover point for fighters on their way to the Middle East from the United States.
U.S. Central Command, which oversees forces in the Middle East, declined to comment.
Twelve F-35As from Hill Air Force Base, Utah, arrived at Lakenheath on Feb. 26, according to observations from local aircraft spotters, flight tracking data, and air traffic control communications.
A dozen F-15Es departed Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base, N.C., the same day and later arrived at Lakenheath, flight tracking data and air traffic control communications indicate.
The Raptors’ deployment is the first time F-22s, which helped escort B-2 Spirit stealth bombers during last June’s Operation Midnight Hammer strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, have been deployed to Israel for possible combat operations in the Middle East.
“It is a very significant signal of the seriousness of intent of the United States to act with lethal force if Iran does not comply with the U.S. requests—most likely in conjunction with Israel, but if necessary, individually,” said retired Lt. Gen. David A. Deptula, who played key role in planning the Desert Storm air campaign and is now dean of AFA’s Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies.
The U.S. has so far sent 11 F-22s to the Ovda airbase in southern Israel, according to commercial satellite photos released by a Chinese company.
The jets, which are assigned to Joint-Base Langley Eustis, Va., had been temporarily stationed at RAF Lakenheath before they transitioned towards the Middle East.
One of the dozen F-22s that took off turned back, apparently because of a maintenance issue, according to open source air traffic control and flight tracking data.
Like Langley’s F-22s, Hill’s F-35s also participated in last year’s mission against Iran, conducting suppression of enemy air defense operations.
At least six more F-22s arrived at Lakenheath earlier in the week, according to local spotters, flight tracking data, and radio communications. In addition to Operation Midnight Hammer, F-22s have also been deployed to the Middle East in recent years to deter Iranian drone and missile attacks against U.S. bases and America’s partners in the region.
American and Iranian negotiators met Feb. 26 in Geneva on Iran’s nuclear program. But the two sides appear to remain far apart on key issues, including the U.S. demand that Tehran end uranium enrichment.
Oman’s foreign minister said that talks by technical experts will continue in Vienna next week. Oman has helped facilitate the talks.

In addition to enrichment, other issues include what to do about Iran’s uranium stockpiles and U.S. demands that Iran limit its ballistic missiles.
Iran is not currently enriching uranium, following Operation Midnight Hammer’s strike on three of its nuclear facilities, but the Trump administration wants the suspension to be permanent.
The Ovda base has been used by American aircraft during exercises with the Israelis, the Jewish Institute for National Security of America wrote in a 2025 report, which was authored by regional security experts, including two former U.S. Air Force generals.
The 1980s-era base has shelters for aircraft and ammunition storage facilities, and accommodates more than 100 aircraft, including tankers. It is possible Ovda could host even more aircraft soon.
In addition to the F-22s, dozens of other fighters are in the Middle East. Around 30 F-35As from Lakenhealth’s 48th Fighter Wing and the Vermont Air National Guard’s 158th Fighter Wing are deployed to a base outside Israel.
One squadron of F-15Es from Seymour-Johnson is also currently deployed to the Middle East, along with a squadron of Lakenheath’s own F-15Es from the 48th Fighter Wing. Numerous F-16 Fighting Falcons and A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft are also stationed in the region.
There are also other aircraft deployed in the Indian Ocean. Multiple F-16s and other military aircraft are currently deployed to Diego Garcia, satellite images show.
Last year, F-15Es deployed to the British outpost, which hosts a key U.S. base, to protect the island while B-2 and B-52 bombers were stationed there. The B-2s carried out attacks against Houthi targets in Yemen during last spring’s Operation Rough Rider.
There are also USAF KC-46 Pegasus and KC-135 Stratotanker aerial refueling aircraft stationed at Ben Gurion International Airport, Israel’s main commercial airport located near Tel Aviv, flight tracking data and photos posted on social media show.
Within the span of a few hours between Feb. 26 and Feb. 27 local time, at least eight KC-46s arrived at the airport, a remarkable buildup at a civilian airport in a highly fraught region.
Dozens of tankers have already been moved to Europe and the Middle East in recent weeks.
The USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier, which carries squadrons of F/A-18 fighters and EA-18 electronic attack aircraft, is due to arrive near the coast of Israel in the coming days. The Abraham Lincoln carrier, with F-35Cs, F/A-18s, and EA-18s is already in the waters south of Iran.
Both the Ford and the Lincoln are accompanied by warships capable of defending against ballistic missiles that could be launched by Iran and launching Tomahawk land attack cruise missiles.

A 2015 DEA memo – surfaced this week in the Justice Department's Epstein files release – shows federal drug agents opened a case on December 17, 2010 in New York targeting Epstein and 14 other individuals whose names remain blacked out.
The file is 69 pages long, stamped "law enforcement sensitive," and still heavily redacted.
It describes approximately $50 million in suspicious wire transfers from 2010 to 2015.
Those transfers were "tied to illicit drug and/or prostitution activities occurring in the U.S. Virgin Islands and New York City," the DEA documented.
The operation had a name: Operation Chain Reaction.
It ran for at least five years – while Epstein walked free.
The DEA routed this case through an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces Fusion Center in Virginia – a Reagan-era clearinghouse built so federal agencies could share intelligence on major criminal operations.
Law enforcement sources told CBS News the request to that Fusion Center flagged this as a "significant" case, not a routine inquiry.
The file also identifies bank accounts linked to Epstein in Switzerland, France, the Cayman Islands, and New York – a financial web spanning four countries that federal investigators were quietly mapping while Epstein attended black-tie dinners with presidents and princes.
The memo notes the matter was still "judicial pending" five years after it opened – meaning in 2015, investigators were still actively working it, possibly awaiting court approval for search warrants or tracking an arrest connected to the case.
One name slipped through the redactions by accident: a Polish fashion model connected to approximately $2 million of those transfers, identified as both a target of the investigation and a survivor of Epstein's abuse.

China's Top Legislature Abruptly Sacks 9 Top Military Officials
China has removed nine military lawmakers from its national parliament, escalating President Xi Jinping's purge of senior defense officials, which has been a months-long trend, tracked closely by global headlines.
In this latest move, first reported internationally by Bloomberg Thursday, the country's top legislative body stripped Ground Force Commander Li Qiaoming and Information Support Force Political Commissar Li Wei of their seats, along with seven other officers.

Such language is often presented in such crackdowns as a euphemism for corruption, which President Xi has in the recent past described as "the biggest threat". But critics as well as Western observers say this has served as a convenient and public PR mechanism for sidelining political rivals, and strengthening Xi's power and hold on the levers of power.
Such is likely also the case with the new firings of these nine military officials. In this fresh case, Beijing has only offered that the officials are suspected of "serious discipline and law violations" - again, just like with the ambiguous Zhang Youxia case.

Pakistan-Afghanistan live: Deadly cross-border fighting intensifies

- Pakistan says “operation is continuing” in Afghanistan after hours of cross-border attacks have caused casualties on both sides.
- Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif says it is now “open war” between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban government as explosions are reported in Kabul and fighting continues along the border.
- Hours earlier, Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said Afghanistan was carrying out “large-scale offensive operations” against the Pakistani military “along the Durand Line” that separates the two countries.
- Pakistan says it killed 274 Taliban fighters and two of its security personnel died. According to Afghanistan, 55 Pakistani soldiers were killed while eight of its fighters died in the attacks. The figures could not be independently verified.

Military shoots down Customs and Border Protection drone with a laser

The U.S. military at the southern border used a laser system to shoot down a “seemingly threatening” uncrewed aerial system near the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas on Thursday, prompting the Federal Aviation Administration to close the airspace around Fort Hancock.
The drone turned out to belong to Customs and Border Protection, according to multiple reports, marking an apparent friendly fire laser incident by the federal government.
It’s the second time this month that the use of a military laser at the border prompted an emergency closure of the airspace.
Reuters first reported on the incident, citing congressional aides who said the military used a directed-energy weapon to down the drone. The incident occurred roughly 50 miles southeast of the Army base at Fort Bliss.
The FAA issued a notice to air mission or NOTAM Thursday evening following the downing of the drone, marking the closure of airspace around Fort Hancock for “special security reasons.” The NOTAM was set to begin Friday and run through June 24.
In a joint statement Thursday evening, the FAA, Department of Defense and CBP acknowledged an apparent incident, but did not specify the origin of the drone, or what was used to take it out.
“This reported engagement occurred when the Department of War employed counter-unmanned aircraft system authorities to mitigate a seemingly threatening unmanned aerial system operating within military airspace,” the statement said, using the Trump administration’s nickname for the Department of Defense.
According to the federal government’s statement, it took place “far away” from populated areas with no commercial aircraft in the area.
The statement continued, saying that the different agencies will work on “increased cooperation and communication to prevent such incidents in the future.”
The joint statement did not specifically address reporting that the drone shot down belonged to CBP, nor what prompted It’s not clear what prompted the apparent friendly fire incident. It simply said that the agencies are working to deal with drone threats by Mexican cartels.
Task & Purpose asked about the reports that the military shot down a CBP drone. The Pentagon told Task & Purpose Thursday night that “This is the extent of information we have to share at this time.”
The incident comes just two weeks after the FAA initiated a sudden 10-day halt in air traffic near El Paso, following concern over the use of the LOCUST laser system at the southern border. CBP, using a LOCUST system loaned to it by the Army, Customs and Border Protection shot down a balloon near Fort Bliss and El Paso.
CBP and the Department of Homeland Security initially suggested they had destroyed a drone used by a Mexican drug cartel, however it was determined to be a children’s party balloon.
The NOTAM was lifted a few hours after it was put in place, but reporting indicates it was enacted due to CBP firing the laser weapon without consulting the FAA.
Several thousand federal troops are deployed along the southern border. The military has had the LOCUST laser system deployed to the U.S.-Mexico border since at least last summer, with the system spotted being airlifted in a military photo in July 2025.

Mass graves discovered in DR Congo – media

At least 171 bodies have been discovered in mass graves in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo), in an area recently held by M23 rebels, the Associated Press reported on Thursday, citing a local official.
The reports come as violence escalates in the African state despite ceasefire efforts.
The graves were found near the city of Uvira in South Kivu province, Governor Jean-Jacques Purusi said. He relayed that 30 bodies had been discovered in Kiromoni, near the border with Burundi, and 141 others in Kavimvira.
The governor and the Local Network for the Protection of Civilians, a civil society group in the region, accused M23 fighters of killing civilians suspected of supporting the Congolese army or allied militias.
In December, the rebels seized Uvira on Lake Tanganyika before the Congolese army retook the city last month. Kinshasa said more than 1,500 people were killed in the offensive.
The UN says about 200,000 people have fled the fighting, including more than 30,000 who crossed into neighboring Burundi.

The discovery comes days after M23 military spokesman Willy Ngoma was killed in a drone strike reportedly carried out by the Congolese army in neighboring North Kivu.
Mass graves have been uncovered repeatedly in the troubled Central African country. In 2023, UN investigators found sites containing dozens of civilians in Ituri province.
Last July, Human Rights Watch said M23 had summarily executed more than 140 in villages near Virunga National Park, accusing the group of widespread abuses.
The UN says the conflict in eastern Congo has created one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, displacing millions.
In a statement on Thursday, issued on the sidelines of a UN Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva, United Nations experts reported that M23 fighters had used “extreme” violence against defenders of human rights in North and South Kivu.
“We are horrified by the gravity and brutality of the abuse committed against human rights defenders and their families,” the experts said.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton held a press conference following her hearing before the House Oversight Committee on the Jeffrey Epstein case.
Clinton, who appeared for nearly six hours in a closed session held on Thursday, confirmed that she never had any knowledge of Epstein's criminal activities.
"I never met Jeffrey Epstein, never had any connection or communication with him. I knew Ghislain Maxwell casually as an acquaintance. But whatever they asked me, I did my very best to respond," she said.
"It was disappointing that they refused to hold a public hearing, so I wouldn't have to be out here characterizing it for you. You could have seen it for yourself. We'd asked for that."
Clinton also asserted that she answered all the questions posed by lawmakers, many of which were repetitive.
She reiterated that she never met Epstein and that she had only met Maxwell occasionally, as an acquaintance, even justifying the presence of Epstein's ally and former partner at her daughter Chelsea's wedding.
The former secretary of state also indicated that, towards the end of the hearing, she was asked about "unusual" topics, including UFOs and the conspiracy theory known as Pizzagate.
"I don't know how many times I had to say I did not know Jeffrey Epstein. I never went to his island. I never went his home. I never went to his offices. So it's on the record numerous times," Hillary Clinton said.
"It then got at the end quite unusual because I started being asked about UFOs and a series of questions about Pizzagate, one of the most vile bogus conspiracy theories that was propagated on the Internet that was serving as the basis of a member's questions to me."
Likewise, when asked about photos of her husband with other women appearing in the Epstein files, Clinton dismissed the controversy.
"I think the chronology of the connection that he had with Epstein ended several years before anything about Epstein's criminal activities came to light," she said.
The committee's chairman, Republican Rep. James Comer, called the interview productive and said the exchange yielded relevant information about the case.
He further noted that when asked about the Clinton Global Initiative, the former secretary suggested that the questions be directed to her husband, Bill Clinton.
For her part, Republican Rep. Nancy Mace said Clinton answered questions from members of both parties without exception.

Lauren Boebert, the Colorado Republican who leaked a photo of Hillary Clinton in a closed-door House deposition Thursday, says the image shows the former secretary of State before the proceedings began.
The House Oversight Committee member tells “CUOMO” she was granted permission by panel staff to release a picture during a break in the hearing but conceded, “We missed that break by just a few minutes, so, it was a few minutes before our break.”
Boebert said panel members later concurred that no pictures would be disseminated moving forward. The congresswoman shared her picture of Clinton with conservative influencer Benny Johnson, who posted it online and caused a temporary pause in the hearing.
The picture of Clinton shows the former Democratic senator and secretary of state “before the hearing began,” Boebert noted.
Rep. James Comer, the Kentucky Republican who chairs the Oversight Committee, said Boebert violated the rules by leaking the picture but added that she apologized. He faulted Democrats for sharing information with the media during the proceedings.
“The Democrats were breaking the rules, too. I’ve said no more of that on either side, and hopefully that doesn’t happen again,” Comer told “Katie Pavlich Tonight.”
Clinton met with the Oversight Committee for what she described as a “very long, repetitive deposition” about any potential contact she may have had with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
She said she had none, though her husband, former President Bill Clinton, was acquainted with Epstein before the investor and philanthropist was arrested for sex crimes in Florida in the early 2000s. Bill Clinton is scheduled to be deposed Friday.
Questions on UFOs, ‘Pizzagate’ appropriate, Boebert says
Hillary Clinton said the proceedings took an “unusual” turn for her when members began asking her off-topic questions about UFOs and the conspiracy theory known as “Pizzagate.”
“There are things within the Epstein files that leads to these questions,” Boebert said, referring to the millions of documents that have been released by the Justice Department under orders from Congress.
“I think everybody wants to know about UFOs,” she added. “There are 3 million files there; you can go a lot of different ways with the information that’s in there.” Comer, the panel chairman, said Boebert asked the question about Pizzagate.
“We asked really good questions. There two questions that were outside the scope,” he said. “The video will hopefully be released by tomorrow afternoon. You will be able to see every question that was asked over the four-hour period.”

Asked about recent rumblings of UFO disclosure in the United States, Mexico's president dismissed the possibility of such a scenario unfolding in her country.
According to a local media report, the exchange occurred as Claudia Sheinbaum held a press briefing on Thursday morning.
During the gathering, one of the journalists in attendance cited President Trump's recent order for the U.S. federal government to release information about UFOs and asked the Mexican president if she would follow suit with a similar declaration.

Paramount’s apparent victory over Netflix in securing Warner Bros. Discovery has led to concerns within the CNN newsroom.
Once again, CNN is facing an uncertain fate.
Netflix’s stunning surrender on Thursday in its effort to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery all but assures that the 24-hour news channel will soon be controlled by David Ellison, the chairman of Paramount Skydance and the technology heir best known in the journalism world for his recent revamp of CBS News.
Mr. Ellison’s intentions for the channel remain unclear. But the development has caused some shudders within the CNN newsroom, where the chief executive, Mark Thompson, felt compelled to issue a memo shortly after Netflix’s announcement.
“Despite all the speculation you’ve read during this process, I’d suggest that you don’t jump to conclusions about the future until we know more,” Mr. Thompson wrote. In an email with the subject line “Corporate Update,” he urged his journalists to focus on the “newsy year at home and abroad,” including the upcoming midterm elections “and who knows what else.”
Within CNN, though, reporters and producers have expressed concern that their newsroom’s independence, a point of pride, could be compromised in the event that Paramount absorbs the company.
Mr. Ellison has a friendly relationship with President Trump, who regularly assails CNN as biased. When Mr. Ellison acquired Paramount last year, the Trump administration approved the sale after Paramount paid $16 million to settle a lawsuit brought by Mr. Trump against “60 Minutes.” On Tuesday, Mr. Ellison attended Mr. Trump’s State of the Union speech as a guest of Senator Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican.
Upon taking over CBS News, Mr. Ellison appointed Kenneth R. Weinstein, a conservative policy veteran with no experience overseeing news coverage, to serve as the news division’s ombudsman. And he selected Bari Weiss as editor in chief, elevating an opinion journalist with a long history of criticizing old-line media institutions.
Ms. Weiss has asked veteran CBS correspondents why the country thinks they have a liberal bias and drew accusations of political interference when she abruptly postponed a “60 Minutes” segment critical of the Trump administration. She has said that she acts independently, and some conservatives have applauded the changes.

It is unclear if Ms. Weiss would be involved in CNN’s leadership if Mr. Ellison completes the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. One logical outcome, though, might be to combine CBS and CNN’s news gathering operations.
How Mr. Trump might respond to an Ellison-owned CNN is not guaranteed. The president can be a fickle viewer; in October, he pronounced Larry and David Ellison as “friends of mine” who will “do the right thing” at CBS. But weeks later, he condemned “60 Minutes” for treating him “far worse since the so-called ‘takeover,’ than they have ever treated me before.”
In December, when Netflix was poised to win Warner Bros., there was a sigh of relief at CNN. Netflix had chosen to exclude CNN from the Warner assets that it was seeking to purchase, meaning the channel would be unlikely to factor in any efforts to secure the blessings of the Trump administration.
In that situation, Mr. Thompson would continue to oversee the network, and Gunnar Wiedenfels, the Warner Bros. chief financial officer, would run a new spinoff company that included CNN.
But Mr. Ellison has long signaled that he wants CNN to be part of any acquisition.
Anderson Cooper, who had spent nearly 20 years as a “60 Minutes” correspondent while holding down his nightly CNN anchoring gig, surprised Paramount when he announced last week that he would not renew his deal with the CBS Sunday show. It is possible that Mr. Cooper may soon be reporting to Paramount again.
On Thursday evening, Ms. Weiss was attending an event sponsored by The Free Press, the independent site that she co-founded and sold to Mr. Ellison last year. On X, she posted a photograph from the event and added a caption.
“Nowhere I’d rather be,” Ms. Weiss wrote, and then added, puckishly, “Though I hear there’s some news?”

“Look at these two fingers,” André Saraiva tells me over squid, foie gras, and a bottle of Volnay at the Standard Grill. His right index finger is swollen “from thousand upon thousand of hours of spray-painting.” Like the rest of Saraiva, the graffiti writer turned bar owner, his hands are small and delicate. But his grip on nightlife—in Paris and now, he hopes, in New York—is sure. In 2004, he opened the club Le Baron in a former Paris brothel. Staffed by artist types, it became the destination for the avant-fabulous (Dash Snow, Nicolas Ghesquière, Marc Jacobs, Ryan McGinley) who shuttle among the art and fashion worlds of New York, Paris, and Tokyo—where he opened the second Le Baron, in 2006. His third will open this fall in Chinatown.
“We really made it to bring a community of people together,” says Saraiva, who is 39. “Creativity needs places to have fun or to get metaphysical … where you can be free.” Designer Olympia Le-Tan, who dated Saraiva, says, “It felt like a house party because all the people who worked there were friends. Sofia Coppola was shooting Marie Antoinette in Paris, and I remember Kirsten Dunst and Io Bottoms doing cartwheels on the dance floor. When MGMT did a show in Paris, they came to the Baron after and improvised another show with instruments we had there.” The door policy was strict.
Saraiva was born in Sweden to Portuguese parents who then moved to Paris. “I was an outsider,” he says. “I had to fight my way.” He immersed himself in the graffiti scene (he was, he says, beaten by four gendarmes for tagging a train at 13) and became known for his top-hatted, grinning stick-figure tag, Mr. A. He sold his art pieces by the meter and took commissions to spray-paint walls with the names of lovers. He also started hosting shows and events with Lionel Bensemoun, the son of a casino owner, with whom he started Le Baron. He branched out from there: parties at the Basel and Frieze art fairs; a partnership in Paris’s Hotel Amour and a restaurant, La Fidélité; collaborations with brands like Belvedere and Louis Vuitton. Now he “curates” Le Bain at André Balazs’s Standard Hotel (Balazs is also a backer of the new Le Baron). He met Paul Sevigny, the D.J. who ran the now-shut Beatrice Inn, through Amy Sacco. He and Sevigny share a birthday, and they’re friends and now (sort of) competitors: Sevigny is a partner in Kenmare and the reopening Don Hill’s.
Olivier Zahm, editor of Purple Fashion, joins us at the Standard for dinner, followed by D.J. Rachel Chandler, Daphne Guinness, and Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Saraiva’s current “love story.” (According to Zahm, Saraiva’s tastes run to “pretty, sweet, well educated, and delicious.”) Saraiva also has a daughter with the musician Uffie. I ask him if he thinks Le Baron can last in the accelerated half-life of New York. “Maybe it won’t,” he says. “Maybe it will be a small, intense period. Like graffiti. It doesn’t stay. I love that about it. I love to let it go.”

The recent Decision of the United States Supreme Court concerning TARIFFS could allow for Hundreds of Billions of Dollars to be returned to Countries and Companies that have been “ripping off” the United States of America for many years, and now, according to this Decision, could actually continue to do so, at an even increased level. I am sure that the Supreme Court did not have this in mind!
