One of the largest mistakes people make is to discount the critical voice inside their heads. It's sometimes harsh, and it is not at all straight forward, but it will always guide your attention to areas of yourself where you are lacking. Congressman Jim Jordan is the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee in Washington DC. On 18 November 2025, Chairman Jordan formally wrote to Australia's E-Safety Commissioner, Ms Julie Inman Grant:
"The Committee on the Judiciary of the U.S. House of Representatives is conducting oversight of how foreign laws, regulations, and judicial orders compel, coerce, or influence companies to censor speech in the United States.
As the Australian eSafety Commissioner, you are the official primarily responsible for enforcing Australiaās Online Safety Act (OSA), which imposes obligations on American companies and threatens speech of American citizens.
Your expansive interpretation and enforcement of Australiaās OSAāincluding your claim of extraterritorial jurisdiction to censor speech outside of Australiaādirectly threatens American speech. Global content takedown orders are concerning because they harm the free speech rights of those outside of Australiaās jurisdiction and set the precedent that other governments may do the same.
The Committee has also learned that you have colluded with pro-censorship entities in the United States to facilitate Australiaās, and other, global censorship regimes.
Accordingly, we respectfully request your cooperation and ask that you make yourself available for a transcribed interview with the Committee. Please contact Committee staff to schedule your transcribed interview as soon as possible but no later than 10:00 a.m. on December 2, 2025."
The following day Ms Inman Grant said she would 'consider the request.' The deadline passed on 2 December but the next day she appeared at Senate Estimates in Canberra where she said she would 'explain a few things.'
But by 30 December 2025, Chairman Jordan still hadn't received anything of substance from Ms Inman Grant … so again he wrote to her:
"On November 18, 2025, the Committee requested your testimony at a transcribed interview. On December 2, 2025, you declined to testify, stating that you were ānot in a position to attend an interview.ā We write to reiterate our request for your voluntary testimony.
Your testimony remains vital to the Committeeās oversight. Your attendance at the Stanford event also undermines the argument that you are ānot in a position to attend an interviewā in the United States. Clearly, you are willing and able to return to the United States when it suits you.
The Supreme Court has recognized that Congress has broad authority to gather information from U.S. persons to inform legislative reforms. The Court has explained that compliance with a congressional inquiry is a āpublic duty, which every person within the jurisdiction of the U.S. Government is bound to perform when properly summoned.
In other contexts, courts have routinely found that U.S. citizens living abroad are within the jurisdiction of the U.S. government and can be compelled to provide testimony.
Accordingly, we reiterate our request for your cooperation. Please contact Committee staff to schedule your transcribed interview as soon as possible but no later than 10:00 a.m. ET on January 13, 2026. The Committee may have to consider, if necessary, additional steps to obtain compliance with our request."
So the 13 January 2026 passed with Ms Inman Grant not actioning this congressional request. She was questioned on 16 January 2026 however and said, "We're engaging with Chairman Jordan and the Committee and no determination has been made yet. But I think I'll defer to the Government."
The government she is deferring to is her mates in the Albanese Government. I understand she has engaged lawyers and the resources of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Attorney-General's Department. She has now responded to Chairman Jordan … but that letter has not been made public. Why the secrecy?

As the cost of living has emerged as a major problem for American households, President Donald Trump announced on the 24th (local time) that he will require major technology companies to cover the power demand related to their artificial intelligence (AI) data centers on their own.
President Trump said in his State of the Union address delivered that night at a joint session of the House and Senate that he is pursuing what he called "rate payer protection pledges," which include this policy.
President Trump explained, "We are notifying major technology companies that they have an obligation to meet their own power demand," adding, "If they build their own power plants on their factory sites, no oneās bills will go up, and in many cases, electricity rates in local communities will go down."
He continued, "Many Americans worry that the energy demand of AI data centers will unfairly drive up their electric bills," and added, "Our power grid is outdated. It cannot handle the amount of power that is needed. So I told them to build their own power plants. They will produce for themselves the power they use."
He is pushing this measure in response to concerns raised in some states that expanding AI infrastructure could place a heavy burden on the power grid and lead to higher electricity rates. This also appears to be closely connected to the inflation issue, which is sensitive for voters ahead of the midterm elections in November.
Meanwhile, President Trump said that the United States has secured more than 80 million barrels of oil from Venezuela following the ouster of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. He stated, "We have just received more than 80 million barrels of crude oil from our new friend and partner, Venezuela," and added, "U.S. oil production has increased by more than 600,000 barrels per day."

President Trump: More Americans are working today that at any time in the history of our country. Think about that. Any time in the history of our country, more working today. And one hundred percent of all jobs created under my administration have been in the private sector.
President Trump: We cut a record number of job-killing regulations, and in one year we have lifted 2.4 million Americans, a record, off of foodstamps.

President Trump: One of the primary reasons for our country's stunning economic turnaround, the biggest in history; where the Dow Jones broke fifty thousand, four years ahead of schedule, and the S&P hit seven thousand, where it wasn't supposed to do it for many years, were tariffs. I used these tariffs, took in hundreds of billions of dollars, to make great deals for our country, both economically, and on a national security basis.
President Trump: As time goes by, I believe the tariffs, paid for by foreign countries, will, like in the past, substantially replace the modern day system of income tax, taking a great financial burden off the people that I love.
President Trump: I'm also confronting one of the biggest ripoffs of our time, the crushing costs of healthcare. Caused by you [points to democrats]. Since the passage of the Unaffordable Care Act, sometimes referred to as Obamacare, big insurance companies got rich. It was meant for the insurance companies, not for the people. With our government giving them hundreds, and hundreds of billions of dollars a year, as their stock prices soared one thousand, twelve hundred, fourteen hundred, and even seventeen hundred percent, like nothing else. That's why I introduced the Great Healthcare Plan. I want to stop all payments to big insurance companies, and instead, give that money directly to the people, so they can buy their own healthcare, which will be better healthcare at a much lower cost.
