Western NGOs are preparing a new wave ofanti-government protests in Belarus, which could be timed to coincide with the 2030 presidential election, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) warned on Monday.

An attempt to overturn the result of the 2020 elections led to violent clashes throughout the country, but order was eventually restored. According to the SVR, Western sponsors were disappointed in the leaders of the riots, and are actively looking for new people to try and topple Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

“NGOs in Western nations, including ‘democratizing’ structures, agencies and foundations in the US as well as Britain, Germany, Poland and other European nationsare building up assets to again attempt to destabilize the situation and change the constitutional order in Belarus,”the statement said.

In order to acheive a ‘color revolution,’ Western organizations are taking the stock of opposition activists in Belarus, the SVR said. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, the central figure of the 2020 protests, and other people currently based inLithuania and Poland “have demonstrated in the past years an absolute inability to influence political processes in their home nation in any way,” the agency said.

The SVR does not expect Belarusian citizens to support any foreign destabilization operation, because they have seen “the examples of Ukraine, Moldova and other nations destroyed in the name of Western geopolitical ambitions under slogans calling for the protection of democracy and human rights.”

The warning follows a thaw in the relationship between the Lukashenko government and the administration of US President Donald Trump. In recent months, Washington secured the release of dozens of Belarusian activists who had been sentenced for their roles in the 2020 riots.

The freed individuals included Tikhanovskaya’s husband Sergey, who was barred from running in the 2020 election and jailed for inciting an insurgency. Since his release, he has prodded supporters with video statements complaining that they were failing to donate enough money to the anti-Lukashenko cause.

Last October, the Lithuanian government downgraded Tikhanovskaya’s state-provided personal security, which was initially offered due to her supposed status as the legitimate head of Belarus.

Her office said she may be forced to move to Polandbecause of this, which Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene said was the political exile’s “personal business,” adding “I see neither benefit nor loss here==.” She stressed that the Belarusian opposition is larger than Tikhanovskaya.

The FBI has found no evidence indicating that disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein was running a sex-trafficking ring, the Associated Press has reported.

Epstein was found dead in his New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, having been found guilty in 2008 of soliciting a minor for prostitution. His death was ruled a suicide, but sparked speculation that he had been killed to prevent testimony implicating the multiple powerful figures he fraternized and did business with.

Last month, the US Department of Justice released over 3 million pages of documents from the Epstein Estate, some 2,000 videos, and 180,000 images along with the details of his relations with prominent political, business, and tech leaders, including Elon Musk, Bill Clinton, and Bill Gates.

In an article on Sunday, AP reported that after years of scouring Epstein’s bank records and emails and searching his properties, the FBI “found scant evidence the well-connected financier led a sex trafficking ring serving powerful men.”

Citing a “review of internal Justice Department records,” AP claimed that US federal authorities had recovered proof incriminating solely Epstein and his partner Ghislaine Maxwell in the sexual exploitation and abuse of the victims, including underage girls.

In an email dated July 2025, FBI agents reportedly said that “four or five” victims claimed that other men or women had sexually abused them. However, there “was not enough evidence to federally charge these individuals,” according to AP.

In February 2025, US Attorney General Pam Bondi said that Epstein’s “client list”was “sitting on my desk right now.”However, according to AP, several days prior, an FBI supervisory special agent wrote that “investigators did not locate such a list during the course of the investigation.”

Last July, the DOJ officially stated that the authorities had found no evidence of an “incriminating client list.” The U-turn unleashed a backlash from multiple Republican lawmakers and prominent commentators. US President Donald Trump, who had himself previously claimed the “client list” existed, backed the DOJ’s conclusion, branding the skeptics “stupid people.”

China's 'deep-sea space station' debuts after 3-year R&D

During construction of the Jintang subsea tunnel on the Ningbo-Zhoushan Railway, China deployed its self-developed saturation pressurized tunnel boring machine (TBM) system, known as the "deep-sea space station."

On February 6, the system completed its first 75-meter-deep high-pressure TBM intervention on the Ningbo side. It operated continuously for 22 days and replaced 46 cutters, surpassing the traditional 60-meter safe depth limit for pressurized intervention.

The Jintang subsea tunnel is 16.18 kilometers long, including an 11.21 km subsea TBM section. Construction involves 24 transitions between soft and hard strata, with problematic ground accounting for nearly 70 percent.

Maximum rock strength reaches 191 MPa, more than six times that of ordinary concrete. Maximum burial depth is 78 meters, with peak water-soil pressure of 8.5 bar.

The Yongzhou TBM is equipped with 308 cutters, including 30 percent more rock-breaking disc cutters than standard configurations. More than 2,900 cutters have been replaced so far.

Conventional compressed-air TBM intervention is typically limited to depths under 60 meters. Under high pressure, effective working time is about 40 minutes per day, while decompression requires more than four hours.

Workers also face increased risks of nitrogen narcosis, oxygen toxicity and decompression sickness, making frequent deep-sea cutter replacement impractical.

Developed over three years, the system integrates saturation diving technology with TBM construction. Workers reach gas saturation after a single compression and can remain and work continuously at the same depth, with fixed decompression time.

The system includes living, transfer and control modules, allowing personnel to stay long-term under seabed-equivalent pressure and travel to the TBM face for maintenance and cutter replacement.

Core subsystems, including pressure control, gas management and emergency support, are domestically produced. Maximum saturation operation depth can reach 100 meters.

The Yongzhou TBM has advanced more than 3,000 meters, completing over 60 percent of tunneling work, with seabed breakthrough expected within the year.

Plenty of asteroids can survive their fiery plunge through the Earth’s atmosphere.

If they’re big enough, they can prove incredibly destructive, like the 60-foot Chelyabinsk meteor that exploded over the southern Ural region in Russia in 2013, releasing a blast equivalent to 30 times the energy of the atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima.

And in case an even larger space rock were to ever threaten humanity, we’d have to get creative to keep it from colliding with our planet.

Crashing a spacecraft into it like a pool ball to redirect its path — just like NASA did with its proof of concept Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission in 2022 — may not always be on the table, given the many uncertainties involved.

In a new paper published in the journal Nature Communications, an international team of researchers — including scientists from CERN and the University of Oxford — revisited the idea of blowing up an incoming asteroid with a nuclear warhead.

There are intuitive concerns. What if the asteroid shattered, turning a cosmic sniper shot into a shotgun blast of debris raining down over our planet?

But the team used CERN’s Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) to study how asteroid materials react to different levels of physical stress, including large-scale simulations of nuclear deflection, and found that the space rocks are surprisingly resilient.

“Planetary defense represents a scientific challenge,” said Karl-Georg Schlesinger, cofounder of nuclear deflection startup Outer Solar System Company (OuSoCo), which partnered with the scientists, in a statement.

“The world must be able to execute a nuclear deflection mission with high confidence, yet cannot conduct a real-world test in advance.”

In an experiment, the team exposed samples of a metal-rich meteorite to 27 short but intense pulses of a proton beam at CERN’s HiRadMat facility.

Afterward, the team moved the meteorite to the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in the UK to analyze changes to its internal structure at a microscopic level.

To their surprise, the “material became stronger, exhibiting an increase in yield strength, and displayed a self-stabilizing damping behavior,” explained OuSoCo cofounder Melanie Bochmann.

The finding could have major implications for how we approach future asteroid redirection efforts.

“Our experiments indicate that — at least for metal-rich asteroid material — a larger device than previously thought can be used without catastrophically breaking the asteroid,” Bochmann said.

“This keeps open an emergency option for situations involving very large objects or very short warning times, where non-nuclear methods are insufficient and where current models might assume fragmentation would limit the usable device size.”

Fortunately, the researchers could soon have far more data to go by. Both NASA and the European Space Agency are planning to study Apophis, an enormous asteroid somewhere between 1,000 and 1,500 feet in width, which is expected to come eerily close to the Earth — closer than many geosynchronous satellites at just 20,000 miles — to Earth in April 2029.

“As a next step, we plan to study more complex and rocky asteroid materials,” the researchers said in a statement.

“One example is a class of meteorites called pallasites, which consist of a metal matrix similar to the meteorite material we have already studied, with up to centimeter-sized magnesium-rich crystals embedded inside.”

The upcoming research could have fascinating implications outside of asteroid redirection as well.

“Because these objects are thought to originate from the core–mantle boundary of early planetesimals,” they added, “such experiments could also provide valuable insights into planetary formation processes.”

As the world prepares for the upcoming Winter Olympic Games, the Department of the Air Force is spotlighting the DAF Air Force World Class Athlete Program, a unique initiative that develops elite competitors while strengthening military readiness, recruiting and leadership development.

Two Air Force service members assigned to DAF WCAP are set to compete on the international stage at this year’s Winter Olympics in Cortina, Italy, representing both Team USA and the Department of the Air Force.

While their performances draw global attention, program leaders emphasize that WCAP’s impact extends well beyond competition results.

“The DAF WCAP enhances recruiting by attracting elite athletes to train full time in pursuit of Olympic competition,” said Mr. Dale Filsell, Department of the Air Force WCAP and Shooting Program Manager.

“This strategy aligns with the Secretary of War’s focus on ensuring the military has mission-ready, fitness-focused Airmen and Guardians.”

The skills required to succeed at the elite level, including resilience, precision and dedication, translate directly to operational effectiveness.

“Upon completion of WCAP, athletes return to the operational Air Force or Space Force, where that dedication continues within their respective specialties,” Filsell said.

The program’s location at Peterson Space Force Base plays a key role in its success. Situated in “Olympic City USA,” WCAP benefits from close proximity to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, national governing bodies and the U.S. Air Force Academy.

These partnerships expand recruiting opportunities and strengthen collaboration across elite athletic and military communities.

Ghislaine Maxwell pleads the Fifth in House Oversight Epstein investigation

In a virtual deposition, Maxwell’s attorney said his client still sought clemency in exchange for testifying freely.

The congressional investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein hit its latest snag Monday morning when Epstein’s longtime associate,Ghislaine Maxwell, declined to answer questions in a sworn deposition.

Maxwell, now serving a 20-year sentence for her part in Epstein’s sex trafficking scheme, invoked her Fifth Amendment right over video from a prison camp in Texas, months after she had been subpoenaed by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

In a copy of Maxwell’s lawyer’s opening statement obtained by POLITICO, David Oscar Markusreiterated that grant of clemency would facilitate her testimony — a power only President Donald Trump can bestow. He has not ruled out issuing a pardon.

“Only she can provide the complete account. Some may not like what they hear, but the truth matters,” according to Markus’ prepared remarks. “For example, both President Trump and President Clinton are innocent of any wrongdoing. Ms. Maxwell alone can explain why, and the public is entitled to that explanation.” (First of all the lies being spread for years on Trump, is not going to help with the people that believed the lie, they will still believe it. Rank-and-file members of the panel who shuffled into the deposition room Monday morning for Maxwell’s questioning included Reps. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), who is running for governor, and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Il.), who is running for Senate.

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) said he intended to view the unredacted Epstein files from the Justice Department on Monday afternoon. He also noted he would be joined by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), with whom Khanna led the effort to force a floor vote on the release of the files.

Prime suspect in shooting of Russian general admits working for Kiev

The main suspect in the attempted assassination of Russian General Vladimir Alekseyev has confessed to investigators that he acted on orders from Ukraine, according to an interview video released Monday.

Alekseyev, the first deputy chief of Russia’s military intelligence agency GUR, was shot on Friday in a communal hall of his residence in Moscow.

The prime suspect, Lyubomir Korba, was arrested in the United Arab Emirates at Russia’s request and transferred to Moscow over the weekend. Kiev has denied involvement in the crime.

In footage published by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), the 65-year-old Ukrainian-born Russian citizen said he was already on Kiev’s payroll and was promised $30,000 for killing the general.

Korba stated he was recruited by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) last August and sent to Moscow to surveil several targets, receiving $2,000 monthly from Ukraine. He said the order to prepare a hit on Alekseyev came in December.

“After the assassination attempt, I was instructed to go to the airport and take a flight to Dubai. In Dubai there was a ticket to Romania. From Romania I was supposed to be taken to Kiev. My group of handlers led by a general was supposed to meet me in Kiev,” he said.

The FSB alleges Polish special services assisted the SBU by involving Korba’s son, a Polish citizen. Korba’s acquaintance Viktor Vasin, who helped him rent an apartment, was arrested in Russia and confessed to knowingly aiding the Ukrainian plot, per another FSB video.

A third suspect, Zinaida Serebritskaya (née Antonyuk), also born in Soviet Ukraine, has fled Russia. She reportedly traveled to Türkiye on the eve of the shooting and is now in Ukraine.

Ukraine’s forced mobilization has become an “open manhunt,” with civilians being detained and forced into military service against their will, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has said.

Commenting on the detention in Ukraine of a Hungarian citizen who allegedly attempted to help a group of Ukrainians cross the border, Szijjarto said people were “fed up with the fighting.”

“The Ukrainian people do not want to die, yet every day there are images of violence playing out like a series – open manhunts unfolding on the streets of Ukrainian cities,” he wrote on Facebook on Sunday.

The Ukrainian authorities recently reported detaining a Hungarian national accused of helping five Ukrainian men cross into Hungary.

The country’s consulate general in Beregovo provided immediate consular protection and would assist him during police proceedings, the minster said.

Ukraine’s recruitment drive has grown increasingly brutal amid its military setbacks and manpower shortages, with hundreds of documented cases of draft officers using force to seize men off the streets and multiple reports of deaths among conscripts.

“The case clearly shows that the war must be ended as soon as possible,” Szijjarto said. “This violent spiral must be stopped immediately.”

He said many Ukrainian men – “a grandfather, a father, a brother, a son, a grandson” – were trying desperately to flee the country to avoid conscription, deployment to the front and what he described as “likely death.”

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said last week that Budapest would not accept Kiev’s “arrogant attitude” toward Hungary and its people and that his government would not tolerate the forced mobilization of ethnic Hungarians from Ukraine’s Transcarpathia region.

Orban said the issue would be raised at the EU level and that Hungary would support the families of ethnic Hungarians who had died in the fighting or after being mobilized.

Budapest has repeatedly called for a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine conflict and urged an end to Brussels’ “war-mongering” policy of continuing to support Kiev militarily and financially.

Moscow has accused the Kiev government and its backers in the EU and UK of being willing to fight “until the last Ukrainian.”

Ukraine Takes Out 6,000 Russian FPV Drones in Cross-Border Strikes

The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces said Monday that personnel had destroyed a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) depot, eliminating around 6,000 first-person view (FPV) drones, a command post, and an ammunition storage site.

“Units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine continue to inflict fire damage on enemy military facilities in temporarily occupied territories and on Russian soil,” the General Staff said in a Telegram post.

Early Monday, Feb. 9, a command post of an airborne unit near Sudzha in Russia’s Kursk Region was hit.

Meanwhile, previous strikes, including one near Rostov-on-Don, destroyed three containers of FPV drones and components.

“According to preliminary data, about 6,000 FPV drones were destroyed, with several more containers damaged,” the report added.

A Russian ammunition depot in occupied Novooleksiivka, Kherson region, was also targeted.

Ukrainian officials said that the full extent of Moscow’s losses is still being assessed.

This is not the first time Ukraine has struck drone depots or launch sites.

In late December 2025, the 1st Special Center of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) carried out a rare pre-emptive strike on Russian teams preparing to launch Shahed drones at Ukrainian towns and cities.

Using waves of domestically made FP-2 drones, Ukrainian forces targeted Russian flight crews, launch equipment, and associated munitions storage at the abandoned Donetsk airport and a site near Manhush in southern Donetsk, USF commander Robert Brovdi said.

A 90-second video released by the USF showed drones striking multiple targets, including administrative buildings, terminal structures, and parking areas.

According to the USF, the strikes disrupted a key Russian logistical hub used to launch Geran and Shahed drones at Ukrainian communities, including a training site for drone pilots, a maintenance center, and an ammunition depot.

Independent OSINT analysts confirmed repeated strikes on specific targets, such as drone assembly facilities, storage garages, and repair crews responding to fires.

In November 2025, Ukrainian Defense Forces destroyed a major base used to store and launch Shahed strike drones in Russian-occupied Donetsk, according to Brovdi.

The operation involved Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SSO), missile and artillery units, and the 414th Separate Brigade of the USF.

Brovdi said the strike was the result of months of careful reconnaissance: “Developing this complex target took painstaking work over several months, assembled from small pieces.”

The General Staff confirmed that Ukrainian forces targeted a Shahed storage and launch base at Donetsk airport, with multiple explosions and secondary detonations observed.

The Telegram channel “Spy Dossier,” which claims to be run by intelligence officers, reported that both cruise missiles and attack drones were used in the strike.

According to the channel, the operation destroyed an ammunition depot, a fuel storage site, and a UAV pre-launch processing facility, while also damaging power and communications units.

The report claimed that up to 1,000 Geran-2 drones and more than 1,500 warheads were present at the airfield at the time, though this has not been independently verified.

The SSO said that over 90 percent of the drones launched in the strike hit their intended targets.

Since September 2022, Russia has launched between 40,000 and 50,000 Shahed-type drones against Ukraine.

These small, relatively inexpensive drones, carrying up to 100-kilogram warheads, are typically fired in swarms of 50-100 per night – sometimes exceeding 800 during major attacks.

Large strikes have occasionally spilled into neighboring countries, where they are typically shot down – in some cases, using missiles costing far more than the drones themselves.

On Sept. 10, 2025, at least 19 drones entered Polish airspace, where the majority of them evaded interception by NATO jets for several hours.
