For nearly a century, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and United Nations were instituted as part of a post-World War II global arrangement, led by the United States, to maintain peace.
This peace was envisioned by its designers to last for posterity – a peace supported by multilateralism and backed by (so-called) “international law.”
This was the infamous “rules-based world order,” which was said to have surpassed or overcome the history of mankind, and the conflicts that are inevitable when dealing with humans due to our fallen nature.
The delusion stated that not only had history been transformed into a one-world order, with peace secured indefinitely, but that human nature had somehow also been changed with it.
The sinister implication was that every man’s soul was not tainted by original sin after all, a fundamentally atheistic world view that denies a core lesson of Genesis
Alas, the many decades since World War II showcased more than enough evidence that the rules-based order, and its supporting institutions like NATO and the UN, were always a folly.
Though war was declared over, still the wars came: Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Gaza. With each war, it became harder and harder to believe that history had ended.
Faith in the institutions that perpetuated this belief – most significantly, NATO and the UN – absolutely dissipated. Donald Trump’s presidencies marked the final nail in the coffin to this fantasy. Continue…

The Trump administration has released two documents, the National Security Strategy and the National Defense Strategy, both of which address the major threats to the United States.
The strategy documents suggest the focus will be on countering China in the Western Hemisphere, near the U.S. homeland, first, and then countering China in the Indo-Pacific.
The “China” section of the 2026 National Defense Strategy (NDS) describes the People’s Republic of China as the second most powerful country in the world, behind the United States.
That characterization is accurate only when power is measured in aggregate terms rather than military capability alone. In strictly military rankings, China does not rank second.
By most credible assessments, including nuclear capability, force projection, and strategic depth, China ranks behind both the United States and Russia, placing it third in overall military power.
The claim that China is the world’s second most powerful country reflects a broader evaluation that combines military strength with economic scale, industrial capacity, technological development, diplomatic reach, and political influence.
Across those metrics, the United States remains the most powerful country economically, militarily, and politically, particularly in its ability to influence the foreign policies of other nations.

One of the many wildfires to break out began southwest of Woodward, Oklahoma, and, due to high winds reaching nearly 60 mph, the blaze quickly spread into residential neighborhoods.
The high winds have prevented firefighting aircraft from assisting in putting out the blaze, making it difficult for firefighters to slow the fire’s spread.

A patent granted to META in December gives an inside look at how Facebook users may still be able to post beyond the grave.
According to the patent, the large language model will be “simulating the user when the user is absent from the social networking system, for example, when the user takes a long break or if the user is deceased.”
The AI model would essentially replicate the deceased person’s digital presence by analyzing data such as their writing style, tone, and expressed beliefs, allowing it to continue posting content and even commenting on friends’ posts in their voice.
It gets stranger.
The patent also referenced technology that would allow users to have phone calls with the deceased or even video calls.

According to a Fox News report by Chief National Security Correspondent Jennifer Griffin, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered Army Secretary Dan Driscoll to remove Colonel Dave Butler from his post as Chief of Army Public Affairs and as the top adviser to the Secretary.
Driscoll, who is currently in Geneva, Switzerland, serving on the U.S. negotiating team tasked with helping end the war in Ukraine.
He was reportedly ordered by Pete Hegseth to remove Butler last week at the Pentagon, according to the Washington Post.
Butler served as the head of public affairs for the Joint Chiefs of Staff under none other than General Mark Milley.
Patriots remember Milley well for his “white rage” comments and his secret calls to China behind President Trump’s back.
Butler was reportedly slated to receive his first star, appearing for two years in a row on an Army list of 34 officers selected for promotion to General. But Pete Hegseth put a stop to it.
Hegseth has reportedly held up that promotion list for nearly four months.
Fox News reports that Col. Butler “volunteered to take his name off the promotion list” if it would help unlock the promotions for the other officers.
“After 28 years of dedicated service, Col. Dave Butler is immediately transitioning from his position as Chief of Army Public Affairs to retire,” Cynthia O. Smith, an Army spokesperson, told The Hill in a statement Tuesday. “His integral role in the Army’s transformation efforts will be missed, and we wish him tremendous success.”

For starters, he claims that the Ukrainian public won't let him cede territory to Russia for the sake of peace even if he wanted to, as we highlighted previously.
But the latest colorful verbal broadside, cited by Axios on Tuesday as Russian and Ukrainian delegations convened in Geneva, saw Zelensky take direct aim at the head of Moscow's negotiating team, Vladimir Medinsky. Kiev's frustration at the state of dialogue has been boiling over.
Medinsky has argued - along with numerous Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin - that the conflict's historical roots must be addressed as part of any settlement, especially given the bulk of the Ukrainian population in the east (Donbas) has always been Russian speaking and looked to Moscow historically.

Four months ago, Matt Jeneroux told Canadians he was done with politics.
As rumours swirled that he was preparing to cross the floor and join Mark Carney’s Liberals, Jeneroux went on the record denying it. He said there was no pressure. No backroom deal. No defection. He claimed he was stepping away for family reasons.
That was in November.
Now, instead of resigning or asking voters for a new mandate, Jeneroux has crossed the floor — handing more power to a Liberal government that the people of Edmonton Riverbend explicitly rejected at the ballot box.
Riverbend voters chose a Conservative MP.
They voted for affordability.
They voted for safer streets.
They voted for a strong resource sector.
They did not vote to help prop up a Liberal government through backroom negotiations in Ottawa.
Adding insult to injury, Jeneroux doesn’t even live in the riding he represents.
An ethical MP who changes parties mid-term does the honourable thing: he resigns, triggers a by-election, and lets voters decide whether he deserves to continue under a new banner.
That didn’t happen here.
This seat does not belong to Matt Jeneroux. It belongs to the people who elected him.
If you believe honesty still matters in politics, if you believe voters, not party elites, should decide who governs, then please sign our petition and demand a by-election.

A former Ontario man who opened his barbecue restaurant back in 2020 despite lockdown rules and was arrested and fined because of it — is finally getting his day in court.
Adam Skelly, whose barbecue joint, Adamson Barbecue, in the Etobicoke area of the GTA, is now permanently closed due to the financial strains Skelly experienced thanks to multiple charges brought against him.
The charges occurred during the lockdown in early 2020, when provincial and municipal laws and bylaws shut down all small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, Skelly choosing to defy these mandates by opening his business for indoor dining.
It only took two days of Skelly opening his business for him to be arrested.
The Toronto police changed his locks — but Skelly broke into his own restaurant, after which more than 250 police, including a horse mounted cavalry, came and dragged Skelly to jail. Continue…

Longtime hockey commentator and former NHL player and coach Don Cherry has been named to the Order of Ontario for 2025. The bestowal of his home province’s highest honour was announced on Feb. 17 by Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor Edith Dumont.
Dumont said all those appointed have made “profound contributions” to Ontario and the world.
“The 2025 Order of Ontario appointees represent the very best of our province,” she said in the announcement.
“Through their exceptional dedication and achievements, they have made profound contributions that have touched lives across Ontario and beyond. May their remarkable examples continue to inspire us all to work together for the greater good.”
Cherry, 92, was born in Kingston, Ont., and later became a professional hockey player, including in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), the American Hockey League, and one playoff game with the Boston Bruins in 1955. He went on to coach the Bruins from 1974–1979, earning a reputation as a coach who encouraged a physical style of play and pushed players to give their all on the ice.
Cherry also gained a reputation for his unique personal sense of style and willingness to stand out with bright and distinctive suits and outfits. Continue…

The Bank of Canada says it has issued a temporary order to Toronto-based payment service provider XTM Inc. to immediately halt all retail payment activities for failing to safeguard clients’ money.
The Feb. 17 order says the central bank has “serious concerns” that third-party payment service XTM has failed to protect client funds and has grounds to suspect that permitting it to maintain operations may pose a risk to the public’s interest.
XTM’s Everyday platform—formerly known as AnyDay—allows restaurant proprietors to collect and distribute tips to employees via pre-paid cards.
The Bank of Canada (BoC) says the company’s financial reports demonstrate a failure to secure the tip money entrusted to its platform.
“XTM failed to safeguard end-user funds in its possession, and caused a significant shortfall in end-user funds to accrue,” the order signed by BoC supervision department managing director Anne Butler reads. “The Managing Director is concerned that a shortfall of this magnitude has caused harm to end users.”
The bank’s directive was made under the Retail Payment Activities Act in response to individuals in the hospitality sector across British Columbia reporting missing tips from the XTM payment program. Restaurants throughout the province have said millions in tips are missing. Continue…

An Ontario man is facing drug-related charges after border officials seized more than 260 kilograms of methamphetamine from a commercial truck at the Canada-U.S. border earlier this month.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) said the drugs were confiscated by its officers on Feb. 4 following a secondary inspection of a truck entering Canada from the United States at the Blue Water Bridge port of entry in Point Edward, Ont., near Sarnia.
A detector dog was brought in to help officers in their examination of the trailer which led to the discovery of 16 duffle bags suspected of containing methamphetamine, the border agency said in a Feb. 17 press release. The total weight of the drugs was 266.4 kilograms, which is equivalent to more than 587 pounds.
The driver was arrested by border officers and handed over to the RCMP.
Kulbir Singh, 29, of Woodstock, Ont., has been charged by the RCMP with importation of methamphetamine as well as possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.
The matter is currently under consideration by the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia, and the CBSA said the charges are contingent upon validation by the court. Continue…

The number of refugee claims made by travellers passing through Canadian airports declined by 73 percent after the Liberal government reintroduced a Mexican visa requirement in 2024.
A report by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) sent to the Senate social affairs committee on Feb. 9 said refugee claims at airports fell from 40,240 to 10,780 year-over-year during the period from January to November 2025.
The total number of refugee claims in Canada in 2024 also fell by 33 percent year-over-year, from 159,860 to 107,005, according to the report, “Statistics on Arrival vs Claimant Date,” which was first covered by Blacklock’s Reporter.
Meanwhile, claims made at the land border increased by 40 percent during that period, from 13,400 to 18,725.
The fall in airport refugee claims coincided with the reintroduction of a requirement that air travellers from Mexico first obtain a visa. Back in 2016, the Liberal government removed the visa rule following complaints from the Mexican government.
At that time, a regulatory impact analysis statement predicted Ottawa’s decision to lift the visa requirement for Mexican travellers would cost around $262 million over the next decade, including $433.5 million in extra enforcement resources, which would be offset by $171.6 million in economic benefits through increased tourism and trade opportunities. Member of Parliament Matt Jeneroux is the latest Conservative to cross the floor to join the Liberal Party.
“I am honoured to welcome Matt Jeneroux to our caucus as the newest member of Canada’s new government,” Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a social media post on Feb. 18.
Jeneroux had announced in early November 2025 he would be resigning his seat, after having been rumoured to be contemplating defection. He now says he’s the one who recently reached out to the Prime Minister’s Office to cross the floor.
Jeneroux, the MP for Edmonton Riverbend, had made his resignation announcement shortly after his colleague MP Chris d'Entremont had left the Tory caucus to join the Liberals.
Jeneroux is now the third Conservative MP to join the Liberals in recent months, the other being Toronto MP Michael Ma.
Jeneroux said in a statement posted on social media that he decided to continue serving in Parliament and to work with Carney to “help build our country’s strength as we face challenges ahead.” Continue…

Philippe Hébert will serve no time in prison following his guilty plea to manslaughter in the homicide of his husband and partner for over 40 years, Richard Rutherford, a judge has ruled.
Superior Court Justice Kevin Phillips sentenced Hébert, 73, to two years less a day, to be served under house arrest at the home Hébert shared for decades with Rutherford in Ottawa’s east end.
The conditional sentence was less than the two years Hébert’s own lawyer, Solomon Friedman, had asked for during the defence’s sentencing submissions earlier this year.
The Crown had asked for six years in prison.
“Don’t let me down, sir,” Phillips told Hébert, who had approached the bench and stood directly before the judge after having difficulty hearing him explain the terms of his house arrest.
Hébert had already spent what the court deemed equivalent to 38 days in pre-trial custody.
“This is a very challenging sentencing,” the judge told a courtroom packed with Hébert’s supporters, many of whom wiped away tears as it became clear that he would not be incarcerated. Continue…
