The federal government spent more than $30 million on vehicles for a two-day G7 summit in Alberta — and over 100 of those vehicles are now parked in storage, according to a parliamentary response released this week.

The figures were disclosed in an Order Paper Question from Conservative MP Blaine Calkins (Ponoka—Didsbury) about the G7 summit held in Kananaskis, Alberta, on June 16–17, 2025.

Public Safety Canada confirmed the RCMP purchased 315 vehicles and leased 648 more specifically for the summit.

The purchased fleet included Chevrolet Suburbans, light-armoured Suburbans, Ford Transit 350 mid-roof vans and Chrysler Pacificas. The government refused to list the makes and models of the leased vehicles, claiming it would take too long to compile the information.

The cost was steep:

$27,446,457 for purchased vehicles

$2,972,987.58 for leased vehicles

That’s more than $30.4 million in total for transportation at a summit that lasted just two days.

After the event, the RCMP admitted 113 of the newly purchased vehicles were put into storage instead of being deployed operationally. The vehicles are currently being kept at the RCMP Service Dog Training Facility in Innisfail, Alberta, along the Queen Elizabeth II Highway.

RCMP officials said the light-armoured Suburbans were reallocated internally, while leased vehicles were simply returned to the leasing company. They also refused to disclose per-vehicle pricing, citing third-party commercial sensitivity.

The disclosure comes as the federal government continues to lecture Canadians about climate change and the need to reduce emissions — while buying and leasing nearly 1,000 new vehicles for a short international photo-op.

Critics say the response highlights a familiar Ottawa pattern: massive spending for elite political events, followed by quiet storage of the equipment once the cameras leave.

For taxpayers, the message is clear: Two days of diplomacy. Thirty million dollars in vehicles. And over a hundred now sitting in a parking lot in central Alberta.

Over a period of three to four years, Mrs. A experienced a severe functional decline due to her chronic illnesses and chose not to access healthcare during this time.

This occurred despite healthcare providers (including primary care and diabetes clinic) attempting to support her care needs.

Where's the beef? Certainly not at Montreal's engineering university.

Polytechnique Montreal, the University of Montreal's engineering school, in an effort reduce its carbon footprint — has chosen to halt the sale of beef for students to purchase.

Reported by CityNews, Patrick Cigana, the director of Polytechnique’s office of sustainable development, claims beef used to account for more than half of the cafeteria's greenhouse gas emissions.

The food professor, Sylvain Charlebois, who runs an agri-food analytics lab at Dalhousie University, wrote on X the school's decision makes it the first university in North America to stop serving beef to students.

Cigana cited research from the University of Oxford platform, saying beef produces ten times the carbon emissions of chicken.

A commenter on Charlebois' post, Michael Penkiunas wrote, "Bold Move."

Charlebois then responded with another possible reason the school may have made the decision, writing, "You mean, convenient move."

"Beef is expensive. Good way to bring down costs."

A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 3.7 was felt in parts of Ontario last night.

Earthquakes Canada confirmed the seismic activity took place before 11 p.m. on Tuesday. The earthquake is set to have hit Ramara, located east of Orillia. Although varying in intensity, the tremors were reportedly felt in Toronto, Hamilton, Belleville, Kingston and Ottawa and are said to have impacted 2,300 residents, The Weather Network reports.

The earthquake was “lightly felt” and as result there were no reports of damage and “none would be expected,” according to Earthquakes Canada.

Ontario Storm Watch, an independent, community-driven weather organization on Facebook said that the “strongest shaking was clearly felt across Simcoe County, Muskoka, Kawartha Lakes, Durham and Peterborough.” Continue…

Belgium’s prime minister pointed out an inconvenient detail: international law still exists. Treaties protecting sovereign assets still exist. And seizing €200 billion without legal basis could expose tiny Belgium to catastrophic retaliation claims — roughly one-third of its GDP. A sane government would call that a serious risk. At Davos, he sneered that “Putin decides how frozen assets are used,” not Europe. Translation: any European leader who refuses to break the law on demand is now a Kremlin puppet. All the rational arguments put forward against seizing Russian assets: pssst! Pretexts! Falsehoods! Lies! European leaders speak, but their vocal cords are being manipulated from MOSCOW!

A new bombshell report in Financial Times says that US officials have held recent talks with Canadian separatists seeking to break Alberta, Canada's oil-rich western province, away from Ottawa.

"Officials in the [US President] Donald Trump administration discussed loaning Alberta $500 million to break up Canada and make it the 51st state," one source told the FT.

This follows on the heels of Trump earlier this month posting a fictitious map showing Canada as part of the United States. The report also comes days after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's speech in Davos before the World Economic Forum (WEF). He called out President Trump for creating a "rupture" in the existing world order.

Carney has also told his parliament, "The world has changed. Washington has changed. There is almost nothing normal in the US now - that's the truth."

Trump famously fired back: "Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements" while adding that Carney "wasn't so grateful" and that Canada "gets a lot of freebies from us."

Recall too the words of US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent at Davos: "Alberta is a natural partner for the US. People are talking. People want sovereignty. They want what the US has got."

And now the FT article, along with other media, claim Trump is destabilizing Canada by these secret meetings between the Canadian separatists and "very, very senior" officials in the US administration.

Jeff Rath, legal adviser to the movement in question - the Alberta Prosperity Project (APP) - has gone so far as to proclaim that Washington is pushing for an "independent" Alberta.

APP leaders are now seeking follow-up meetings with the US State and Treasury Departments next month to request a $500 million credit facility to bankroll secession, while also pressing for US recognition and new pipeline routes that would bypass Canadian federal approval, according to the reports. They are said to be 'taking advantage' of the ongoing friction between the US and its northern neighbor.

Sources briefed on the discussions told the Financial Times that representatives from the province, where it turns out Carney himself was raised, have met with US State Department officials in Washington on no less than three separate occasions over the past nine months.

Per The Daily Beast, a State Department spokesperson has admitted that the meetings took place but suggested nothing has been agreed to, stressing that "no commitments were made."

That same report cites Carlo Dade from the Canada West Foundation, a Calgary think tank, who described: "The Americans are more than happy to continue to play Canadians off each other."

EU foreign ministers agreed Thursday to designate Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a "terrorist" group, the bloc's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, said.

"Any regime that kills thousands of its own people is working toward its own demise," she said.

One byproduct, (or perhaps the intent?) is that this will give President Trump more political cover if he decides to strike Iran. A 'narrative' is taking shape, despite the internal protests having long dissipated.

Ukrainian anti-corruption authorities have appealed to Interpol to issue an international warrant against Ukrainian-Israeli Timur Mindics and his business partner Alexander Zuckerman, both considered fugitives from justice and both reported to hold Israeli citizenship.

The corruption scandal centers on bundles of money, a toilet made of gold, and threads leading to the Ukrainian president.

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) have officially submitted to Interpol the documents aimed at launching the international arrest of both Mindics and Zuckerman. The announcement was made by Oleksandr Klimenko, head of SAPO, wrote Ukrainian outlet Strana Today.

Mindics is currently in Israel, which he reportedly fled to an hour before anti-corruption officers raided his apartment, leading to suspicion someone in the government tipped him off that the raid was coming.

He is being tried in absentia for corruption crimes in the energy sector. The entrepreneur, who has a long history with Zelensky and played a key role in his rise to power, previously claimed that he was scapegoated in the scandal, while Zuckerman also denies the allegations.

Various Turkish and Middle East sources are reporting that Iranian intelligence attempted to spy on the major US airbase at Incirlik, and that a cell of Iranian agents has been busted.

The report, originally in Turkey's Sabah newspaper on Wednesday, said that Turkish intelligence and Istanbul police detained six people across five provinces. The report claims the cell was led by Iranian intelligence codenamed "Haji" and another codenamed "Doctor".

A Turkish asset is alleged to have hired people to take photos and videos of the Incirlik Air Base in Adana, which has been jointly controlled by Ankara and Washington for decades, and which plays host to American tactical nuclear weapons as part of a broader NATO nuclear-sharing program. The British Home Secretary unveiled plans in Parliament on Jan. 26 for a new National Police Service (NPS), which is modeled on the FBI and will take over the fight against terrorism and organized crime in the United Kingdom.

At the weekend, Shabana Mahmood described the NPS as a “British FBI” and said it would alleviate the burden on local police forces, allowing them to concentrate on issues such as shoplifting and street robbery.

The NPS will replace the National Crime Agency, which covers England and Wales, but it will also have a UK-wide role.

On Monday, the Home Office published a 106-page White Paper that sets out in detail the new police structure and how it would be supported by state-of-the-art technology.

The document says the government would invest 115 million pounds ($157 million) over the next three years “to enable the rapid and responsible adoption of AI and automation technologies by the police.”

A new National Centre for AI in Policing, known as Police.AI, would be created.

There are also plans to roll out facial recognition cameras nationwide to help police catch wanted criminals on watchlists.

The number of facial recognition camera vehicles would be increased from 10 to 50.

“A hundred years ago, fingerprinting was decried as curtailing our civil liberties, but today we could not imagine policing without it,” Mahmood said.

“I have no doubt that the same will prove true of facial recognition technology in the years to come.” Continue…

Shortly before Davos, Canada and China announced a 5-point 'strategic partnership' which includes slashing tariffs on Chinese EVs from 100% to 6.1% for the first 49,000 units, in exchange for China cutting tariffs on Canadian canola from 85% to 15% until at least the end of the year.

After Donald Trump stomped his feet and threatened to slap a 100% tariff on Canadian exports, PM Mark Carney assured the US that the deal with China was simply 'rectifying' some 'issues' that developed over the last several years.

Yet, the reduced EV tariffs remain…

In response, General Motors CEO Mary Barra told employees at an all-hands meeting that the EV deal is a risk to North American auto manufacturing, WSJ reports.

"I can’t explain why the decision was made in Canada," Barra told employees, warning "It becomes a very slippery slope," and noting that Chinese automakers benefit in China from high tariffs imposed on importers, plus technology restrictions that prevent other companies from entering their market.

Under the agreement between China and Canada, at least half of the EVs imported would be required to have a price of $35,000 Canadian dollars (US$26,000), according to Carney's office. Canada will also work with Chinese automakers to ensure timely vehicle certifications, and that they meet the country's motor-vehicle safety standards.

Canada, meanwhile, is a major market for Detroit automakers. In 2025, Ford, GM and Jeep owner Stellantis sold over 700,000 vehicles combined in Canada. One factor which makes this easy is that Canada's emissions standards closely mirror those of the US.

That said, Canada's auto industry has been burnt, badly by Trump's tariffs on vehicles and parts made there, causing US automakers to scale back manufacturing as a result. Last year GM made the decision to stop making slow-selling electric vans at an Ingersoll, Ontario factory, while Stellantis has canceled plans to build the electric Jeep Compass in Ontario - and will instead make them in Illinois.

Chinese automakers, meanwhile, have been rapidly gaining global market share in recent years, but continue to be effectively barred from entering the massive US car market due to triple-digit tariffs on Chinese vehicle imports. Meanwhile, they're making roughly 25% of new Chinese cars in Mexico.

China’s state-run Global Times on Wednesday was delighted by the tiff between Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, urging Carney to prove his mettle by doubling down on the anti-American comments that Bessent claimed he had retracted.

Carney gave a speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, last week in which he decried the end of the “rules-based international order.” He suggested President Donald Trump’s tariffs and foreign policy decisions destroyed that order, although he did not mention Trump by name.

On Monday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he was present in the Oval Office when Trump spoke with Carney by phone. He said he overheard Carney “very aggressively walking back some of the unfortunate remarks he made at Davos.”

Asked about Bessent’s remarks, Carney insisted “I meant what I said in Davos,” and had not walked back anything during his call with Trump. He also claimed Trump was not upset by Carney’s recent trade deals with China.

The Global Times praised Carney’s rejection of Bessent’s remarks as “another move that was viewed by analysts as reducing overreliance on the U.S. and seeking diversification of foreign relations.”

“Carney’s latest responses mark a series of signs that the Canadian prime minister, who was elected in April 2025 succeeding Justin Trudeau, does not bow to U.S. pressure. Rather he is standing tough and won’t retreat from its strategic approach toward the U.S., that is to push for reducing overreliance on the U.S., seeking for diversification and establishing more pragmatic ties with other countries,” the Chinese Communist paper gushed. Shahid Butt has urged his young supporters to knock their enemies’ “teeth out”

A convicted Islamist terrorist is running for local office in the British city of Birmingham. Shahid Butt has urged voters to overlook his past “mistakes,” which include conspiring to bomb the British consulate in Yemen.

In an interview with Birmingham Live this week, Butt described himself as the “ideal candidate” to “unite” his district of Sparkhill in city council elections this May. Two-thirds of Sparkhill’s residents are of Pakistani origin, while a third of Birmingham’s 1.1 million population is Muslim.

Butt was jailed for five years in Yemen in 1999, after being found guilty of planning attacks with a gang of Jihadists on the British consulate in Aden, an Anglican church, and a Swiss-owned hotel.

He maintains that he did nothing wrong, and that his confession was extracted under torture. “It was all just made up,” he told the Birmingham Mail. “Nobody actually died, nothing happened at all.”

He has admitted to “mistakes” in his past, however. Butt was a member of a Pakistani street gang in his youth, which fought with white skinhead gangs in 1980s Birmingham. He also admits to traveling to fight in Afghanistan and Bosnia in the 1990s alongside the son of convicted terrorist Abu Hamza.

Butt, who describes himself as an “Islamist,” is a member of the Independent Candidates Alliance (ICA), a group of Muslim candidates set up by lawyer and accused money launderer Akhmed Yakoob. The ICA is running 20 candidates across Birmingham in the upcoming elections.

“I am not a pacifist,” Butt told Birmingham Live. “If someone attacks me…I am not just going to turn the other cheek, I am going to defend myself. I will be pre-emptive, as the law advises me, if I feel like my life is threatened, or my family, I will do a pre-emptive strike.”

He has advised his fellow Muslims to follow his approach. “Muslims are not pacifists,” he told protesters before local team Aston Villa’s match against Maccabi Tel Aviv last November. “If somebody comes into your face, you knock his teeth out. That’s my message to the youth.”

Governor General Mary Simon’s taxpayer-funded salary has climbed to $393,800 in 2026, following another automatic pay hike — despite Canadians struggling with soaring food and housing costs.

The Privy Council Office confirmed the increase to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, explaining that the raise is mandated under the Governor General’s Act, which guarantees annual salary increases by law.

The Privy Council Office confirmed it allocated $5.55 million and spent $5,349,488.75 on advertising campaigns since 2022, all routed through the Prime Minister’s Office.

Two major ad blitzes carried the same stated goal:

“Transform Canadian patriotism from passive to active and embed the idea of ‘choosing Canada’ into everything we do as a nation. Buy, support, embrace and explore all things Canada.”

The company that promoted insect protein as a climate-friendly food alternative has reportedly only paid back $15 million from a $40 million loan provided by Farm Credit Canada.

Farm Credit Canada has recovered only $15 million of the more than $40 million it loaned to Aspire Food Group, the company behind the government-backed “crickets for food” scheme, and it refuses to say how much taxpayers have actually lost.

The figures were revealed in a response to an Order Paper Question from Conservative MP John Barlow(Foothills), answered January 26.

According to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Farm Credit Canada advanced $36.5 million in 2022 and another $4.19 million in 2024 to Aspire Food Group, a company that promoted insect protein as a climate-friendly food alternative.

As of 2025, Aspire had repaid only $15 million.

The government also confirmed Aspire defaulted on its loan obligations.

“Certain events of default occurred,” the response states. On January 24, 2024, Farm Credit Canada issued a demand letter and moved to enforce its security under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. The loans were not repaid, and in May 2025, Aspire was placed into receivership under FTI Consulting.

Aspire’s assets were later sold to Halali Group Holdings, with the Ontario Superior Court approving the transaction in October 2025. Following that sale, Farm Credit Canada received an interim distribution of $15 million from the proceeds.

But when asked how much of the remaining balance was written off or forgiven, Farm Credit Canada refused to answer.

“Farm Credit Canada is not in a position to disclose the details of specific loan losses, write-offs, or loan forgiveness for Aspire or any other borrower,” the agency said, calling the information “commercially sensitive.”

Ottawa can say how much it handed out. It can say how little came back. But it won’t say how big the hole is.

The federal government has admitted it knew Algoma Steel was planning layoffs in Sault Ste. Marie months before approving a $400 million taxpayer-backed loan, according to a new parliamentary disclosure.

The admission came in response to an order paper question from Conservative MP Jim Bélanger (Sudbury East—Manitoulin—Nickel Belt), answered January 26.

Finance Canada confirmed that Algoma first told the federal government in June 2025 that layoffs were a possible part of its business plan as it transitioned to a “sustainable long-term” model.

Despite that warning, Ottawa moved ahead with massive financial support.

The government agreed in principle to provide Algoma with a $400 million loan on September 29, 2025, under the Large Enterprise Tariff Loan facility. The deal was finalized on November 17, 2025. The Ontario government simultaneously committed another $100 million, bringing the total public loan package to $500 million.

Just days later, on November 30, 2025, Algoma formally informed the Canada Enterprise Emergency Funding Corporation that it would proceed with layoffs.

Bélanger also asked whether the federal government secured any job guarantees in exchange for the loan. Ottawa refused to say.

“The specifics of agreements… are subject to commercial confidentiality,” the Department of Finance said, declining to disclose whether workers’ jobs were protected as a condition of the bailout.

The disclosure undermines earlier claims that the loan was meant to protect jobs in Northern Ontario and raises new questions about why taxpayers were put on the hook for hundreds of millions of dollars without clear employment guarantees.

According to data released from a Survey Of Candidates for the 45th General Election, as noted by Blacklock’s Reporter, nearly half of the candidates were also convinced that illegal funds were being used to interfere in the democratic process.

Most candidates, some 76 percent, said they were concerned with the spread of “false information online.”

About 65 percent agreed that “foreign countries or groups [were] using social media and other means to interfere with or influence the political opinions of Canadians.”

More concerningly, nearly half, 49 percent, believed that there were serious issues with foreign money being “used to influence politics in Canada, and foreign countries or groups trying to interfere with the selection of candidates by political parties.”

The results from the survey, conducted by Léger Marketing Inc. and costing some $68,517, are shocking to say the least and were drawn from 837 candidates nationwide, with people’s party affiliation not being mentioned. Continue…

Man suffering from 'profound loneliness' receives MAiD

In another case of euthanasia via Canada's Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) program, a man in his 60s with a disability was euthanized despite his main source of suffering being loneliness.

Referred to as Mr. B in a 2025 report by the Ontario MAiD Death Review Committee (OMDRC), he was living with cerebral palsy, a condition that affects an individual's ability to move, and is usually caused by damage to the developing brain before birth.

This meant Mr. B was wheelchair-bound — but could independently control his wheelchair, transfer himself, and use the bathroom independently.

He lived in a long-term care facility (LTCF) due to his advanced care needs and had been living there for many years.

His life, partly due to his disability, was characterized by much isolation.

Mr. B expressed this "profound psychosocial suffering and loneliness" which he attributed to a lack of relationships and community.

This is an experience he claimed to have had his entire life.

His living conditions did not help.

His time in an LTCF only further exacerbated his loneliness and feelings of a "lack of belongingness."

His life seemed empty — and due to his profound suffering, six to eight weeks prior to Mr. B requesting MAiD, he decided to stop eating and drinking. Continue…

Ontario resident Margaret Marsilla says her 26-year-old son Kiano Vafaeian was given medical assistance in dying (MAID) in B.C. even though he didn’t suffer from a terminal or unbearably painful medical condition and was denied euthanasia in Ontario.

MAID currently permits doctor-assisted suicide for people with terminal illnesses or other incurable medical conditions. Under Track 2, eligibility also extends to individuals with chronic illness or disability who are experiencing “unbearable physical or mental suffering” but whose death is not “reasonably foreseeable.” An expansion to allow MAID for those whose sole underlying condition is mental illness is currently paused until 2027.

“I strongly feel that if he wasn’t approved for MAID, he would have still been around,” Marsilla said, adding that her son was an intelligent and kind young man whose loss is deeply felt by his whole family.

Marsilla, who took part in the press conference with Joseph Caprara, her husband and Vafaeian’s step-father, said they remained very close to Vafaeian into adulthood, providing financial, housing, and medical support and helping him try to stabilize his life as he faced physical and mental health challenges.

Marsilla noted that her son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in early childhood and later went on to lose sight in one eye and diminished sight in the other eye.

She said Vafaeian later went on to become addicted to cannabis, psilocybin, and other drugs in an attempt to treat his discomfort and mental illness. After being repeatedly turned down for MAID in Ontario between 2022 and 2024, he was given a link in an email from Health Canada to find other provinces where he could seek it, she added. Continue…

South Korean submarine maker Hanwha Oceans says it has signed a series of partnership agreements with Canadian companies, including Sault Ste. Marie’s tariff-battered Algoma Steel.

Hanwha says it signed a memorandum of understanding with Algoma that pledges $275 million in financial support to stand up a new structural steel beam mill in Canada.

The pact also declares Hanwha’s intention to purchase steel products for both the construction of Canada’s new submarine fleet and the maintenance infrastructure to support it.

Both commitments come on the condition that Hanwha wins Ottawa’s massive, multi-billion-dollar procurement contract to supply the Royal Canadian Navy with up to 12 modern submarines.

Hanwha also signed co-operation agreements on Monday with Telesat, MDA Space, Cohere and PV Labs, all while a South Korean delegation of government and business officials visited Toronto.

Rival German bidder TKMS has also signed teaming agreements with Canadian companies, such as Quebec manufacturer Marmen and the artificial intelligence company Cohere.

Industry Minister Mélanie Joly and her Korean counterpart, Minister Jung-Kwan Kim, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) earlier this week aimed at strengthening Canada and Korea’s “comprehensive strategic partnership,” which launched in 2022, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada said in a Jan. 29 news release.

Ottawa says the non-binding MOU was signed to facilitate cooperation between Canada and Seoul on bringing Korean automotive manufacturing to the country and expanding domestic electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing opportunities. It also covers collaboration on critical minerals and artificial intelligence.

The MOU also intends to attract investments in Canada’s battery production, battery-materials processing, and “the refinement, processing and recycling of Canadian critical minerals.”

“This agreement will grow our auto sector, create good jobs and reinforce Canada’s position as a global leader in future‑ready vehicle manufacturing,” Joly said in a Jan. 29 statement.

She told reporters on Jan. 27 that Canada is “happy to have the Koreans in town,” noting that the agreement follows her trip to Korea in November 2025, where she engaged with senior government officials and industry representatives.

These organizations provide material support, legal services, bail funds, and organizing infrastructure. Several have received federal or state government funding for operational or program-specific purposes. Government grants are awarded for legitimate, approved uses such as operational costs, including maintaining offices and paying staff; program-specific work, including refugee legal aid, crime-prevention programs, and security upgrades for mosques; and security purposes, such as protecting buildings from hate crimes. The regime aligns itself with — and provides support for — numerous hostile countries, transnational terrorist groups, and malign actors adverse to the United States, including the Government of the Russian Federation (Russia), the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the Government of Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah,” the order reads.

“For example, Cuba blatantly hosts dangerous adversaries of the United States, inviting them to base sophisticated military and intelligence capabilities in Cuba that directly threaten the national security of the United States.”

The communist regime persecutes and tortures its political opponents; denies the Cuban people free speech and press; corruptly profits from their misery; and commits other human-rights violations.”

The order further establishes a tariff system, imposing tariffs on any country that provides oil to Cuba.

Gabbard has also taken the lead on the Russiagate conspiracy investigation, after revealing last July that Barack Obama and his administration orchestrated a “years-long coup and treasonous conspiracy against the American people, our Republic, in an attempt to undermine President Trump’s administration.”

While attending a screening of the new Melania film at the Trump-Kennedy Center, Trump told reporters that Gabbard is “working very hard on trying to keep the elections safe, and she’s done a very good job.”
