Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was in a New York jail Saturday, hours after American special forces seized him, while Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, whom US President Donald Trump has indicated he could work with, claimed the operation had a “Zionist tint.”

Maduro’s jailing followed a lightning predawn attack in which US commandos grabbed the Venezuelan president and his wife while airstrikes pounded sites in and around Caracas.

A US government plane carrying Maduro landed at a military base shortly after nightfall, and he was transported by helicopter to New York City, where the couple were to be arraigned on drug trafficking and weapons charges.

The White House posted a video on X of Maduro, handcuffed and in sandals, escorted by federal agents through a US Drug Enforcement Administration facility in New York.

“Good night, happy new year,” the 63-year-old leftist is heard saying in English.

The Trump administration captioned the video “perp walked.”

One aspect that became clearer was Trump’s interest in Venezuela’s vast oil reserves.

“We’re going to have our very large United States oil companies… go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure,” he said. “We’ll be selling large amounts of oil.”

Trump has indicated US involvement is likely for the long haul.

“We’re going to stay until such time as the proper transition can take place,” he said.

Trump dismisses prospect of opposition taking charge

But Trump appeared to reject the possibility of the country’s opposition taking power and said he could work instead with Maduro’s vice president, Delcy Rodriguez.

US-backed opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who won last year’s Nobel Peace Prize, posted on social media that “the hour of freedom has arrived.”

She called for the opposition’s 2024 election candidate, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, to “immediately” assume the presidency.

However, Trump, who has openly stated that he felt he deserved to have won the 2025 Nobel Prize, was cold about expectations that Machado could become Venezuela’s new leader, saying she doesn’t have “support or respect” there.

Instead, he touted Rodriguez, saying “she’s essentially willing to do what we think is necessary to make Venezuela great again.”

Rodriguez poured cold water on that, demanding Maduro’s release and vowing to “defend” the country.

Venezuela’s VP: Maduro’s capture has ‘Zionist tint’

On Sunday, Rodriguez claimed that the operation to arrest Maduro had a “Zionist tint.”

“The governments of the world are simply shocked that it is the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela which is the victim and subject of an attack of this nature, which has, without a doubt, a Zionist tint,” said Rodriguez in a televised speech, according to the Mexican public broadcaster.

She added that “the extremists who have promoted armed aggression against our country — history and justice will make them pay.”

Sources Blame Senator McConnell for UFO Transparency Law Failure

In 2025, Senator Mitch McConnell and his staff played a central role in the derailment of major Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) transparency legislation, according to sources who spoke to Liberation Times.

Sources identify Terry Carmack, McConnell’s chief of staff, as the staffer who they say pressed to have the UAP Disclosure Act (UAPDA) stripped from the FY2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), after Representative Eric Burlison had submitted it as an amendment.

One source claimed to Liberation Times, “Mitch has always worked against it [UAP disclosure] - he is the number one villain - number two is Terry.”

During a UAP hearing on 9 September 2025, convened by the House Oversight Committee’s Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, Burlison said he had only recently learned that his UAPDA amendment had not made it into the House NDAA package.

He suggested the decision was made on ‘germaneness’ grounds—House procedure for whether an amendment is considered relevant to the underlying bill—and he added in frustration:

"Just last night, I tried to get an amendment onto the National Defense Authorization Act that fit in the germaneness [meaning relevant to a subject under consideration] of that bill to have UAP disclosure, and conveniently it was named non-germane, mostly deemed by staff, not even an elected official - this is the kind of stuff we repeatedly see."

In a recent appearance on the Psicoactivo Podcast, Burlison said there was a final, narrow window to add the UAPDA during ‘conference’—the closed-door phase when House and Senate negotiators reconcile their competing NDAA versions into a single compromise bill.

He said that, based on what he had been told by sources within the Senate, staff on the Senate Appropriations Committee were responsible for the UAPDA’s failure at that stage.

However, he emphasised that the claim was second-hand—relayed to him by individuals connected to the Senate—and that he had not been able to substantiate it.

Liberation Times understands from multiple sources that McConnell—who sits on the Senate Appropriations Committee—and his office objected to the UAPDA on jurisdictional grounds, at least officially.

According to sources familiar with the discussions, the concern was that the legislation would draw the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform into some of the government’s most sensitive classified work.

Burlison’s amendment text would have provided that the chairs, ranking members, and designated staff of both committees be granted the same security clearances and access to relevant presidential and departmental or agency special access and compartmented access programs.

Put simply, that would amount to formal permission to see specific classified programs, not merely to hold a high-level clearance.

In that context, Special Access Programs and compartmented programs are ‘extra-locked’ efforts, where information is tightly restricted through additional access controls and shared only with approved individuals who have a demonstrable need-to-know.

Sources suggest the sticking point was the prospect that committee access could cut across both Title 10 authorities, which govern military operations, and Title 50 authorities, which govern intelligence activities.

First unveiled publicly in July 2023 by then–Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, the UAP Disclosure Act proposed establishing an independent UAP Records Review Board to oversee the review and release of government records related to UAP.

The Board would have consisted of nine U.S. citizens nominated by the President. It would have been empowered to obtain relevant UAP records, evaluate whether they should be disclosed immediately or postponed, and advise on the terms of any release.

The proposal also included text regarding the public disclosure of certain UAP-related materials, including any potential biological evidence and associated craft, where applicable.

Sources told Liberation Times that, in 2023, then–Senate Minority Leader McConnell was among the politicians blamed for stripping out some of the UAPDA’s most consequential provisions from that year’s NDAA.

Watergate and Pentagon Papers attorney Daniel Sheehan echoed those claims, asserting that opposition came from five influential Republicans: Senators Roger Wicker and Mitch McConnell, and Representatives Mike Turner, Mike Rogers, and Mike Johnson. In 2023, he told Liberation Times:

"98% of everybody in Congress is in support of this bill. It’s just these five guys holding it up."

In 2024, a fuller version of the UAPDA was submitted again. Once more, McConnell was blamed for the failure.

At the time, Matthew Ford—then affiliated with the UAP Disclosure Foundation—wrote on X that McConnell had blocked the UAPDA’s inclusion in the NDAA manager’s package.

In 2025, Senators Schumer, Rounds, and Gillibrand again introduced the UAPDA as an amendment, but it was not included in the Senate’s version of the NDAA.

That omission prompted Burlison to submit the measure as an amendment to the House version of the NDAA, which ultimately failed.

Liberation Times requested comment from Senator McConnell’s office and from Terry Carmack directly regarding these allegations, but had received no response at the time of publication.

Donald Trump retrieved Nicolás Maduro from Venezuela and brought him to New York to be arraigned in the Southern District. Venezuelans in the diaspora celebrated the symbolic end of a tyrant's impunity. Meanwhile, in the United States, something stranger happened: American socialist organizations erupted in rage.

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) issued a statement condemning the action and demanding Maduro's release. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani—a DSA member—reportedly consulted with Ramzi Kassem, a lawyer infamous for representing al-Qaeda figures, and allegedly called President Trump to "register his opposition." At the same time, Neville Roy Singham's network hosted a pro-Maduro protest in Times Square, even as Venezuelan exiles celebrated freedom from the man who ruined their country.

So we must ask the obvious question: why? Why are ostensibly American organizations so emotionally invested in the fate of a foreign dictator? Why does the capture of a Venezuelan strongman trigger outrage in gentrified Brooklyn, rather than relief?

The first answer is ideological. Socialists, even those who insist on calling themselves "democratic", do not fundamentally support American interests.

The branding is marketing. "Democratic socialism" is designed to sound like Scandinavia with better coffee. In practice, their heroes are Havana and Caracas, not Helsinki. They tell voters they want the Nordic model; what they defend, reflexively and ferociously, is the Cuban and Venezuelan model: centralized power, ideological conformity, and permanent opposition to the United States.

The second answer is historical and structural. The modern American left did not materialize spontaneously on college campuses. It was built, carefully, deliberately, over decades, beginning with Soviet influence operations and later absorbed by Cuban intelligence. And today, that network is materially dependent on Venezuela. Without Venezuelan oil, Cuba collapses. When Maduro falls, the lights quite literally go out in Havana.

Next came the National Lawyers Guild (NLG), founded in 1937. As the Capital Research Center notes, the NLG has been consistently identified with radical-left politics and was heavily influenced by communists in its early years. Key Weather Underground figures like Bernardine Dohrn and Bill Ayers had strong ties to the National Lawyers Guild (NLG). Dohrn served as the first law student organizer.

Today, the Guild provides legal support and protest training for Black Lives Matter, Antifa, and other left-wing street movements, teaching activists how to push confrontation to the legal edge without crossing into prosecutable domestic terrorism.

Announced by Prime Minister Keir Starmer in September as a way to verify job candidates’ right to work, the scheme is slated for rollout by 2028-29 at a staggering £1.8 billion cost. But the government has stonewalled on details, fueling suspicions of mission creep.

Shadow Cabinet Office minister Mike Wood blasted the idea: “Labour said their plan for mandatory digital ID was about tackling illegal immigration. But now we hear they are secretly considering forcing it on newborns. What do babies have to do with stopping the boats? Insider Trading? New Polymarket Account Made 12x Gain On Venezuela Intervention

As the dust settles on President Trump's Friday-night blitz on Venezuela, suspicions of insider trading on the secret operation are rising, after a brand-new Polymarket account scored a huge profit by betting on a US military attack just before it happened. As a result, a US House representative is already preparing to introduce a bill that would prohibit government officials from using inside info to profit in prediction markets.

The account in question was created on Dec. 27, and quickly placed roughly $34,000 in bets on US intervention in Venezuela and Maduro's ouster both happening by January 31. On the Maduro prediction alone, the account scored a 1,242% gain, turning $32,537 into $436,760. At the time of the bets, the market placed the probability of intervention in January at just 6%.

The list of suspects could be quite a long one, given the military was poised to strike for days. "We were going to do this four days ago but the weather was not perfect," Trump said after the attacks and Maduro's extraction. "And then all of a sudden it opened up and we said go." Military officials were said to have contemplated a Christmas-day attack. What's more, given officials' public talk about rehearsals of the operation, preparations likely spanned weeks, following months of a build-up of assets in the region.

That said, one can't entirely rule out the possibility of someone outside government reading headlines and placing a big bet, and the mystery account wasn't the only one placing bets on US intervention. According to the Wall Street Journal, more than $56 million had been placed on Maduro's ouster, with $11 million betting he'd be gone by Jan. 31. Another $40 million in losing bets had been placed on him leaving by Nov. 30 or Dec. 31. This X user claimed to have made $80,000 by translating a surge in Pentagon-area pizza traffic into imminent military action:

Regardless of who owns all those accounts, Democratic New York Rep. Ritchie Torres is planning to target officials' potential to profit from access to government secrets. According to Jake Sherman of Punchbowl News, Torres will introduce the "Public Integrity in Financial Prediction Markets Act of 2026." Here's how Sherman's source describes it:

This bill prohibits federal elected officials, political appointees, and Executive Branch employees from engaging in certain transactions involving prediction market contracts when they either possess material nonpublic information relevant to the transaction or could reasonably obtain such information through their official duties. The restriction applies to buying, selling, or exchanging prediction market contracts tied to government policy, government action, or political outcomes on platforms engaged in interstate commerce.

Torres is targeting a narrow universe of people, leaving plenty of opportunity for other people in government to profit from inside information – such as a staff sergeant at the Pentagon, or his girlfriend. Outside government, staffers at the Washington Post and New York Times also had an opportunity to profit on the Venezuela operation, as Semafor reports that both outlets learned of the operation shortly before it took place, but refrained from publishing the news to avoid putting US forces in peril.

Responding to news of Torres' upcoming bill, Polymarket rival Kalshi said its rules prohibit trading by anyone inside or outside of government who "has access to material non-public information that is the subject of an Underlying of any Contract or that has the ability to exert any influence on the subject of an Underlying of any Contract." Of course, platform rules are one thing and federal laws are another. The Block notes that Donald Trump Jr has advisory roles on both prediction platforms.
