No Alien Technology Detected in Interstellar Visitor 3I/ATLAS

In a significant development for astronomy, scientists have concluded that the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS exhibits no evidence of extraterrestrial technology following the most sensitive radio search ever conducted on such an object.

The findings, released by the Breakthrough Listen program, effectively debunk speculations that the rare visitor from beyond our solar system could be an alien artifact, reinforcing its classification as a natural cosmic body.

The comet, designated 3I/ATLAS, was first detected on July 1, 2025, by the NASA-funded Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) survey telescope located in Rio Hurtado, Chile.

As the third confirmed interstellar object to traverse our solar system—following 1I/‘Oumuamua in 2017 and 2I/Borisov in 2019—it quickly captured the attention of astronomers worldwide.

Unlike objects originating within our solar system, 3I/ATLAS follows a hyperbolic trajectory, indicating it is unbound by the Sun’s gravity and originates from another star system, potentially having wandered interstellar space for millions or billions of years.

Physically, 3I/ATLAS displays characteristics typical of comets, including an icy nucleus estimated to be between 1,400 feet (440 meters) and 3.5 miles (5.6 kilometers) in diameter, as determined by observations from NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope on August 20, 2025.

It features a coma—a bright cloud of gas and dust—and has shown activity through outgassing as solar heat sublimates its ices.

The comet’s composition includes common cometary materials such as carbon dioxide, water, carbon monoxide, cyanide, and nickel, aligning with expectations for natural bodies of this type.

Images captured by Hubble and other instruments reveal a blurry, elongated form with a distinct tail, further supporting its cometary nature.

The object’s trajectory has been meticulously tracked. At the time of discovery, it was approximately 410 million miles (670 million kilometers) from the Sun, traveling at about 137,000 miles per hour (221,000 kilometers per hour).

Its speed peaked at around 153,000 miles per hour (246,000 kilometers per hour) during perihelion—its closest approach to the Sun—on October 30, 2025, at a distance of about 130 million miles (210 million kilometers), or 1.4 astronomical units (AU).

The comet passed closest to Earth on December 19, 2025, at roughly 170 million miles (270 million kilometers), or 1.8 AU, posing no threat to our planet.

It is now outbound, expected to remain observable from Earth with small telescopes until spring 2026, before fading into the depths of space.

Speculation about an artificial origin emerged shortly after discovery, fueled in part by Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb, known for his hypotheses regarding previous interstellar objects.

In a July 16, 2025, paper co-authored with Adam Hibberd and Adam Crowl, Loeb explored the possibility that 3I/ATLAS could represent alien technology, invoking the “Dark Forest” hypothesis from science fiction, which posits that advanced civilizations might act preemptively against potential threats.

He noted anomalies such as the absence of a visible tail initially and its perihelion positioning opposite Earth, suggesting potential intentional evasion of observation.

However, as additional data accumulated—including the development of a tail and anti-tail, explained by natural outgassing phenomena—Loeb revised his stance.

In a recent interview, he acknowledged that the object “is most likely natural,” though he maintained that some aspects remain unexplained, and he plans to adjust his internal “Loeb scale” for extraterrestrial likelihood downward in the absence of technosignatures.

To rigorously test for alien signals, the Breakthrough Listen initiative employed the Green Bank Telescope on December 18, 2025, just before the comet’s closest Earth approach.

This search scanned radio frequencies from 1 to 12 gigahertz, a band suitable for potential interstellar communications. Over 471,000 signals were initially detected, but advanced filtering eliminated Earth-based interference, leaving nine events—all traceable to terrestrial sources.

No artificial transmitters stronger than 0.1 watts were identified emanating from the object, marking this as the deepest radio scan of an interstellar visitor to date.

NASA has been unequivocal in dismissing alien hypotheses.

On November 19, 2025, the agency released images and data affirming that 3I/ATLAS “looks and behaves like a comet,” with Associate Administrator Amit Kshatriya stating, “All evidence points to it being a comet.”

Nicola Fox, associate administrator of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, added, “We certainly haven’t seen any technosignatures or anything from it that would lead us to believe it was anything other than a comet.”

University of Oxford astrophysicist Chris Lintott echoed this sentiment, calling the spacecraft idea “simply nonsense.”

The scientific consensus underscores the value of 3I/ATLAS for understanding exosolar systems. Differences in its composition compared to local comets could reveal insights into planetary formation elsewhere.

Ongoing observations by telescopes such as Hubble, James Webb, SPHEREx, SOHO, and STEREO continue to monitor the object, contributing to broader knowledge of interstellar wanderers.

While the allure of extraterrestrial discovery persists, this case highlights the importance of empirical evidence in distinguishing natural phenomena from speculative narratives.

An indictment unsealed today in the District of Columbia charges Vladimir Padrino Lopez, 56, Minister of Defense of Venezuela. The indictment alleges that from March 2014 until May 2019, Padrino Lopez conspired with others to distribute cocaine on board an aircraft registered in the United States.

Padrino Lopez, who holds the rank of General in the Venezuelan armed forces, held the authority for interdicting aircraft, many of which are registered in the United States, suspected of being used to traffic drugs from Venezuela to countries in Central America. On numerous occasions, Padrino Lopez ordered or authorized the Venezuelan military to force suspected trafficking aircraft to land or to shoot down the aircraft. However, Padrino Lopez allowed for other aircraft whose drug trafficking coordinators paid bribes to him to safely transit Venezuelan airspace.

On Sept. 25, 2018, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) included Padrino Lopez on its Specially Designated Nationals List. Pursuant to the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act, this means that his assets are blocked and U.S. persons are generally prohibited from having financial transactions with him.

The DEA Orlando District Office led the investigation, which was supported by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force program and the Criminal Division’s Office of Enforcement Operations. Acting Deputy Chief Charles Miracle and Trial Attorneys Michael Christin and Kirt Marsh of the Criminal Division’s Narcotic and Dangerous Drug Section are prosecuting the case.

Maikel Jose Moreno Perez, 54, current Chief Justice of the Venezuelan Supreme Court, was charged via a criminal complaint in the Southern District of Florida with conspiracy to commit money laundering and money laundering in connection with the alleged corrupt receipt or intended receipt of tens of millions of dollars and bribes to illegally fix dozens of civil and criminal cases in Venezuela.

The complaint alleges, for example, that the defendant authorized a seizure and sale of a General Motors auto plant with an estimated value of $100 million in exchange for a personal percentage of the proceeds. Similarly, the complaint alleges that the defendant received bribes to authorize the dismissal of charges or release against Venezuelans, including one charged in a multibillion-dollar fraud scheme against the Venezuelan state-owned oil company.

According to the criminal complaint, in or around October 2014, Moreno Perez told U.S. authorities in a visa application that he earned the equivalent of about $12,000 per year from his work in Venezuela. From 2012 to 2016, the defendant’s U.S. bank records show approximately $3 million in inflows to the defendant’s accounts, primarily from large round-dollar transfers from shell corporations with foreign bank accounts linked to Co-Conspirator 1, who is a former criminal defense attorney in Venezuela that currently controls a media company in Venezuela.

As set out in the criminal complaint, the defendant’s bank records allegedly show that from 2012 to 2016, the defendant spent approximately $3 million, primarily in the geographical area of South Florida. For example, bank records allegedly show that Moreno Perez spent about $1 million for a private aircraft and private pilot, more than $600,000 in credit or debit card purchases at stores primarily in South Florida (including tens of thousands of dollars at luxury stores in Bal Harbor, such as Prada and Salvatore Ferragamo), about $50,000 in payments to a luxury watch repair store in Aventura, and approximately $40,000 in payments to a Venezuelan beauty pageant director.

Nervis Gerardo Villalobos Cardenas, 52, former Vice Minister of Energy of Venezuela, was charged in a 20-count indictment in the Southern District of Texas with conspiracy to commit money laundering, money laundering and conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) for his alleged role in an international money laundering scheme involving bribes paid by the owners of U.S.-based companies to Venezuelan government officials to corruptly secure energy contracts and payment priority on outstanding invoices; and

Oscar Rafael Colmenarez Villalobos, 51, former Venezuelan Air Force Officer, charged in the District of Arizona with violations of the Arms Export Control Act. He allegedly conspired with others, including individuals associated with an aviation company in Arizona, to smuggle from the United States to Venezuela T-76 military aircraft engines used on OV-10 Bronco aircraft to individuals in Venezuela and allegedly made false and misleading statements on shipping and export control documents to conceal the prohibited activities and transactions from detection of the U.S. government.

An indictment is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Two Space Force officers lost their home and their family cat in what appears to be a targeted attack just days after Christmas.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Caller, Major Jason “Red” Mills detailed how his house had been burglarized and lit on fire, and his had been vandalized. While he, his wife and his ten-month-old daughter were celebrating Christmas in Florida, Mills awoke to a 5 a.m. phone call on Dec. 28 from the D.C. police notifying him that his house had been set on fire. He later learned that his car had also been ransacked and vandalized with messages reading: “Fuck Trump,” “Fuck you space man” and “Fuck U.S.D.S,” which could stand for “United States DOGE Service.”(RELATED: If You Want To Crack Down On Left-Wing Terror, Here’s Where To Start)

Mills spoke to the Caller in a personal capacity, not representing the Space Force or Department of War. Both he and his wife are members of the Space Force, and both entered the military in the early 2010s.

“I would say there is a general anti-military sentiment in certain parts of D.C. nowadays,” Mills told the Caller.

“If they were intending to target from the get-go. I do go to and from work, from the subway and I live in a part of D.C. where [the military doesn’t typically live.] So I’m the only person even remotely nearby that would ever be in uniform so they may have seen something going from my house, just in uniform every day,” he added.

Mills told the Caller that upon learning that his house had been set on fire and severely damaged, he immediately flew back to Washington, D.C., to assess the damage. Upon returning home, Mills was told by the fire department that it appears an individual started two fires on different levels, one in the kitchen and the other in the basement of the home. The fire report, obtained by the Caller, details the same information. The fire report noted that the incident is classified as incendiary.

A police report notes that a man has been taken into custody after being caught with some items within Mills’ home. The investigation into the incident remains open.

He and his wife have walked through the property in hazmat suits, trying to uncover items from their home. Some important items have been salvageable, like the hospital bracelet for Mills’ daughter the day she was born. Mills shared a photo of his wife with some framed baby photos that were also saved from the fire.

Amid the rubble, Mills told the Caller he was able to dig up their cat’s body from the fire.

His car was also broken into; the inside mirrors were torn off and papers were thrown everywhere. Black ink was spread across the car onto the dash and inside mirror, Mills told the Caller. There was also a sticker found on Mills’ car representing the “Air Force Research Laboratory” that had a giant “X” written across it.

Because of the targeted nature of the attack, Mills told the Caller he had to notify his chain of command. The response has been “heartwarming.”

Mills said family members set up a GoFundMe after the attack, and the response has stunned him.

“I was blown away by students from the school I taught at sending like 500 bucks each,” Mills told the Caller. He added that the military community has circulated the story, which he believes has helped it gain traction.

The GoFundMe has raised about $90,000 at the time of publication since being created four days ago. One $10,000 donation was made by Jared Isaacman, the same name as Trump’s NASA administrator. An administration official confirmed to the Caller that the donation was in fact from the NASA administrator.

“Me and the family are super, super thankful and grateful for all the support we’ve been shown so far,” Mills told the Caller. “It’s way above and beyond anything we expected… it’s been frankly overwhelming and in the best possible way.”
