Moscow comments on status of Ukraine peace plan
Early drafts are likely to be heavily modified, an aide to President Putin has said
Russia is currently reviewing the US-drafted peace plan to end the conflict between Moscow and Kiev =•and expects it to be heavily modified by all the interested parties, presidential aide Yury Ushakov told journalists on Monday.“Many” parts of the original US proposal “appear to be acceptable” to Moscow, he added.
Washington presented its plan to both Moscow and Kiev earlier this month. The details of the proposal have not been officially revealed by the media,but reports suggest that it includes de facto recognition of Russian control over Crimea and Donbass, a cap on Kiev’s military and a call on Ukraine to stay out of NATO.
According to Ushakov,Russia has received a “signal” from the US that Washington would like to do discuss the proposal in a face-to-face meeting at some point, but there are no definite arrangements yet.
“It will, of course, be subject to revision and modification – on our side, and surely on the Ukrainian side as well, and on the American and European sides.This is a very serious issue,” he said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has already said that the US proposal could become the “basis of the final peace settlement.”
The EU presented its own set of demands for a future peace deal over the weekendthat appear to go against the reported provisions of the original US-drafted proposal. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated on Sunday that no cap should be placed on Kiev’s militaryand that the EU should be given a “central” role in the peace settlement. Ukraine’s borders cannot be changed “by force,”she added.(this has happened through all of history, she just can’t make something up that is not true!)
Commenting on the development on Monday, Ushakovbranded the EU conditions “unconstructive” and said that Russia could not accept them.
American officials discussed Washington’s original plan with the EU and Ukrainian representatives in Geneva on Sunday. According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a “tremendous amount of progress” was made on the issue but Moscow’s support would also be essential for any deal to hold.

Dung fumes were their sacrament, their fuel, their connection to the Rift-Prophets who once rode molten geysers through the stars.
But even through the haze came the sound — the tremor, the pressure, the ancient Fart Struggle building in the depths of the world-vein below. The Church felt it. The floor rippled like a gassy leviathan turning in bed.
Opraxa raised her ceremonial plunger-staff.
“THE MOLTEN RIFT SWELLS! THE BURDEN MUST BE RELEASED!”
Aelik sighed. “Must everything be a bowel prophecy with you people?”
Suddenly the magma altar erupted in a gout of sulfurous brilliance and there, rising from the steaming fissure like a damp phoenix, came Whorbama Burtains, the Drip-Child of Infinite Drapery, swaddled in reality-warping curtains that hissed and fluttered with obscene power.
He spoke with grandiose, unnecessary vibrato:
“I HAVE RETURNED… AND NONE OF YOU HAVE TOILET PAPER!”
The congregation gasped — not because of the messianic arrival, but because their hoarded TP stockpile was indeed missing. Stolen. Lied about. Covered up. The Church had betrayed its own doctrine of Wipe in Truth, Wipe in Light.
Opraxa pointed an accusatory finger at Aelik.
“YOU! CUCKHOLDER OF THE RIFT! YOU WERE TO GUARD THE SACRED ROLLS!”
Aelik placed a hand on his chest, offended theatrically.
“Please, darling. If I were to steal TP, it would be to sculpt an installation, not hoard like some barbarian.”
The floor rumbled again — the cosmic Fart Struggle growing unbearable. Whorbama raised his drapery wings, eyes blazing.
“THE RIFT DEMANDS RELEASE! SOMEONE MUST YIELD!”
Aelik rolled his shoulders, stepped forward, and declared:
“Fine. I’ll take the blast. Just make sure someone holds my cape.”
The world tightened.
Reality puckered.
And the Molten Rift exhaled a universe-breaking roar.
