In 2023, 18 anti-fascist activists, mainly German and Italian, were prosecuted by the Hungarian courts for their participation in a counter-demonstration in response to the Day of Honor.[8] Hungarian authorities launched a Europe-wide manhunt by issuing European Arrest Warrants to apprehend activists, particularly in France, Italy, Germany, and Finland.[9]

Italian activist Ilaria Salisis accused of injuring three participants and belonging to a criminal organization.[10] Eleven years in prison are sought against her.[11] Salis suffered numerous violations of her fundamental rights during her incarceration, deprived of access to basic hygiene products, including during her period, forced to wear soiled clothing, suffering from malnutrition, deprived of basic medical care, and prevented from communicating with her family for more than six months,[10] subjected to more than a month of solitary confinement, and detained in a cell infested with insects.[9] She was also subjected to interrogations without a lawyer or translator[9] and was shackled at the ankles in a Hungarian court in 2024.[11]

Her legal team was repeatedly denied access to the case file, while Hungarian government officials publicly portrayed her as guilty. During the hearings, neo-Nazi activists in paramilitary uniforms intimidated those suspected of supporting her. Her notoriety in Italy led to her election to the European Parliament in June 2024 under the banner of the Greens and Left Alliance,which granted her parliamentary immunity, which Orbán's allies attempted to lift.[9]

Gabriele Marchesi, an Italian man in his twenties, escaped extradition after a Milan court blocked the European arrest warrant in 2024, although nothing prevents Hungary from issuing a new warrant if Marchesi travels to another European Union country.[9]

After fleeing when legal proceedings against him in Finland appeared to be leading to his extradition to Hungary,[9] Albanian anti-fascist activist Rexhino Abazaj, known as "Gino," was detained in France in November 2024 in connection with this case. He refused to be extradited to Hungary and was released in March 2025. In April 2025, the Paris Court of Appeal definitively refused his extradition, ruling that he would not receive a fair trial in Hungary and could be subjected to ill-treatment there.[8]

Maja T., a German non-binary activist, is facing extradition to Hungary despite a subsequent intervention by the Federal Constitutional Court, which sanctioned the court that authorized the transfer due to prison conditions in Hungary and anti-LGBTQ+ measures under the Orbán government.[9][11] In February 2025, Maja appeared in court in Budapest in chains, stating: "I am being prosecuted by a European state because of my anti-fascist activism."[9]

In January 2025, six people suspected of involvement in the 2023 attacks have surrendered to German authorities to avoid extradition to Hungary.[11]

In September 2025, Viktor Orbán cited the arrest of Ilaria Salis to justify his decision to classify "Antifa" as a terrorist organization, following the example of US President Donald Trump.[12]

“Novorossiysk suffered the most,” said Veniamin Kondratyev, the governor of the Krasnodar region, on social media.

“Overnight, more than 170 people and 50 pieces of equipment dealt with the aftermath of the attack, quickly extinguishing fires and assisting residents.”

Ukrainian drones also attacked the Saratov oil refinery, deep inside Russia, marking the sixth time Kyiv has targeted the facility since the summer and the second time this week.

The refinery is a key supplier of gasoline and diesel to western Russia, with a daily capacity of 140,000 barrels.

The Trump administration has provided intelligence to help Ukraine target oil facilities as part of an attempt to push the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, towards negotiations, while Kyiv is largely now relying on its own domestically made long-range weapons for the attacks.

The campaign has succeeded in reducing Russian oil refining by more than 20 per cent, Ukrainian officials say, sparking fuel shortages across the country and partial bans on diesel and petrol exports.

Kyiv is reported to have hit more than 50 per cent of Russia’s 38 major refineries more than once.

Meanwhile, on Friday, at least four people were killed in the Ukrainian capital, and 27 injured in a large-scale combined attack.

Fifteen people were admitted to hospital, including a pregnant woman and two children, after explosions were heard across the city, as missiles and drones struck critical infrastructure and residential buildings.

Emergency services rescued more than 40 people from fires and damaged buildings in eight of Kyiv’s 10 districts. Mayor Vitali Klitschko described the strikes as a “massive enemy attack”.

Pictures showed the flames and residents gathering in rubble-strewn streets outside apartment buildings.

“The Russians are hitting residential buildings. There are a great many damaged multi-storey apartment buildings, in practically every district,” Tymur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv’s military administration, wrote on Telegram.

The strikes left parts of the city without heating and facing warnings of possible power and water outages.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, said Russia launched about 430 drones and 18 missiles in the overnight attacks. “This was a deliberately calculated attack aimed at causing maximum harm to people and civilian infrastructure,” he wrote on X.

Experts have said Russia’s latest strikes on energy infrastructure were putting Ukraine at risk of heating outages as winter settled in. It is seen as a deliberate strategy to try to break the population’s morale after nearly four years of war.

Police Investigating Only a Fraction of Identified Child Sex Abuse Cases in Khan’s London.

The Metropolitan Police in London, England, say they are currently pursuing only “tens of cases” in their large-scale review of historic child sex abuse, even though nearly 9,000 were initially flagged for potential reinvestigation. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley told officials, including London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan, that after examining 2,200 of those cases in detail, just 1,200 still fell within the parameters of the inquiry. However, he added that once all preliminary checks are completed, an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 cases may ultimately qualify for renewed investigation.

Rowley urged caution in describing the review as a probe into “grooming gangs,” explaining that the national audit had used an expansive definition that included familial abuse, institutional failures, peer-on-peer exploitation, and online offending. Because of this wide scope, he warned that the public perception of grooming gangs does not necessarily align with the types of cases being examined. He stressed that the offenders reflect “the diversity of London’s population,” which is around two-thirds non-white.“We do not see the typology reported elsewhere where there have been cases of offending committed by groups of Pakistani men on white British children being the sole or majority case,” he claimed.

Mayor Sadiq Khan also faced criticism over accusations that he downplayed grooming gang concerns and mocked victims by Conservative Susan Hall. “In January, I asked if we had grooming gangs in London. You dismissed my question by pretending you didn’t know what I meant,” Hall said.

Other investigations have described police and social services repeatedly missing opportunities to intervene, particularly in cases involving vulnerable white girls targeted by older South Asian men working in coordinated groups. Police and local officials feared being accused of racism, or damaging so-called “community relations.”Police forces outside London have recently announced new arrests linked to historic grooming gang abuse, including a case in West Yorkshire in which 19 men were detained on suspicion of offences such as rape, sexual assault, and trafficking.
