Oct 5 (Reuters) - In the wake of the devastation of Hurricane Helene in the United States this week, a new storm emerged on social media - false rumors about how disaster funds have been used, and even claims that officials control the weather.

Local and national government officials say they are trying to combat the rumors, including one spread by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

One of the more far-fetched rumors is that Helene was an engineered storm to allow corporations to mine regional lithium deposits. Others accuse the administration of President Joe Biden of using federal disaster funds to help migrants in the country illegally, or suggest officials are deliberately abandoning bodies in the cleanup.

The tale spread rapidly across the internet to the point where the 6’3” point guard had to issue a clarification.

While NBA fans are accustomed to hearing eccentric and outrageous anecdotes from players about their careers, few stories have been as dramatic as B-Diddy’s allien abduction claim.

During his appearance on The Champs podcast, the California native casually recounted an incident where he was "abducted by aliens" in the dark while driving from Las Vegas to Los Angeles a ‘couple of weeks’ ago.

"I was on my way from Vegas here to L.A. I’m a little tired and sh*t, and I see this light, and I think it’s a big-a truck," Davis said. "The next thing you know, dude, I was in this f—**ng steel thing."

Despite the skepticism of the hosts - Neal Brennan and Moshe Kasher, the two-time All-Star persisted with conviction, giving the impression that his story was serious.

"They were poking me on my nose, and they were, like, looking me in my eyes," Davis added.

"They had my hands like, tied up, and the next thing you know, I was f****ng in Montebello, dude, burning rubber on the way back to L.A. It was like four o’clock in the morning."

Davis had to quickly backtrack his story

The subject of extraterrestrial life, especially aliens living between humans, is the one that captures the attention and curiosity of many, so naturally, Baron’s story sparked widespread inquisitiveness, especially on social media platforms.

Put simply, fans eagerly sought further details, amplifying the discussion.

However, realizing how his joke had spiraled into a serious situation, the former Golden State Warriors point guard took to Twitter to immediately admit that the story was indeed a joke.

It is safe to say that while Davis’s takes from his playing days in the league might intrigue fans, it has become certain that anything beyond that might need a serious fact-check before being taken seriously.

MOAB, Utah — Who gets to do what on federal land is an ages-old battle in the West, especially Utah, where roughly 70% of the state is owned by Uncle Sam. People from the world over flock to public land here, with its jaw dropping red rock canyons, arches and ancient petroglyphs. Its petrified sand dunes are a beacon for thrill seeking off-roaders and mountain bikers.

"It’s amazing, it’s really cool," says Isaac Hamlen, after a ride on the famous Slickrock trail outside Moab, the West's self-described outdoor adventure capitol.

Hamlen and Will Burger are on a road trip camping on federal public land and visiting Utah's famous national parks and monuments. The state has five national parks, including nearby Arches and Canyonlands as well as nine national monuments, includingthose controversially established by presidents Clinton and Obama, Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bear's Ears.

"We learned about all that stuff our first semester of college. And it really drove home the importance of public land," Burger says.But the recent monument designations and road closures with an eye toward protecting the environment in increasingly busy areas have fueled resentmentthat’s been smoldering in Utah since the Mormon Pioneers arrived.

Now in its latest legal salvo with the federal government, the state's Republican leaders are hoping the high court's conservative justicescontinue to overturn long-established legal precedents. A landmark lawsuit filed directly before the court in August is seen as a test of what'slong been called a fringe theory.

For decades "sage brush rebels"in states like Utah have challenged the federal government's legal authority to own land within state borders. A litany of prior court rulings conclude federal land managers do. But state leaders see a possible opportunity now with the high court's demonstrated deference to state's rights.

"I am someone who loves public lands," says Casey Snider, a state representative and avid hunter. In his office, taxidermy adorns the walls and he proudly displays a bronze of Teddy Roosevelt on his desk.

But Snider says today's federal land managers are locking up all the land, limiting drilling and any kind of development.

"When youpush the decisionall the way from D.C., you tie our hands. You tie your own people’s hands if you’re a federal manager, to the detriment of all parties involved," he says. "That is my number one concern." Snider says local people living and working here should have the most say on what land to preserve or develop.

Utah's latest legal attempt to wrest control of federal land is paired down from previous efforts in the courts and state law.It seeks to transfer a limited amount - about 18 million acres of Bureau of Land Management land, so called "unappropriated lands." The national parks, existing national monuments or U.S. Forest Service land where ski resorts are located are not at issue in this lawsuit.

Still, conservationists worry the effort could result in weaker environmental protections and more private development.

Near a new luxury development on state land tucked into a rocky hillside in Moab is Western Spirit Cycling. Owner Ashley Korenblat makes her living guiding adventure bike tours on federal land around the country.

"We can see just over that ridge is the Slickrock Trail and that's all on Bureau of Land Management land," she says, pointing to the north.

Slickrock is just one of scores of pieces of public land that could get transferred over to Utah to manage if the Supreme Court takes this case and Utah wins. Korenblat worries the state can’t afford to protect these prized places.So the land will be sold for private development.

"The state can’t run a deficit, so times get tough and they’re going to sell off these lands," she says.

Korenblat, who’s running for county commission here, sees this lawsuit as election year red meat for the Republican base. She says even moderate Utah Republicans such as the state's Governor haven't thought through what they're asking for. Outdoor recreation industries now pump billions of dollars into western economies.

"I understand you want to honor your ancestors and your grandfather told you that you should hate the federal land," Korenblat says. "But it’s time to think about your children, not your grandfather."

Critics of the lawsuit say it's not something they would worry about, were it not for the Supreme Court's recent overturning of Roe v Wade.In the rural West anyway, it's widely predicted that the high court might take the case.

On Main Street in Moab, Nick Oldham, general manager of High Point Hummer and ATVs, thinks that might start a good conversation. "You know access has been eroded at," he says, watching tourists pile into a vintage military Humvee for a scenic ride along the cliffs above the Colorado River.

Oldham says he’d be open to giving Utah a try at managing some of the public land that surrounds the town. In recent years,some of the most popular trails first cut by the area's uranium mining explorershave been closed down to off-roaders.

"There’s definitely a feeling of, you know, our backyard is controlled by somebody in Washington, D.C., as opposed to somebody more local," Oldham says.

But right now Oldham is mostly worried about all the highly publicized fights over federal public land around here. The rhetoric on both sides, he says, is starting to drive tourists away.

"God save the Tsar!," wrote ultra-nationalist Russian ideologue Alexander Dugin, who has long advocated the unification of Russian-speaking and other territories in a vast new Russian empire which he says must include Ukraine.

"Putin rules the country confidently and unhurriedly. And it shall always be so - well, almost," Dugin added in his birthday greeting, posted on his Telegram messaging channel minutes after midnight.

Unlike most of Russia's historical leaders, Putin has no visible successor. He also has no serious rivals, according to multiple Russian sources.

He is now locked into what Russian officials say is the gravest confrontation with the West - whose combined economies are at least 20 times bigger than Russia's - since the depths of the Cold War.

Opponents say early setbacks in the invasion illustrated Russia's weakness, though U.S. generals say Moscow quickly learned from its failures and has adapted to the demands of the biggest land war in Europe since World War Two.

Russia, like Ukraine, has suffered huge losses of men in the war, and in 2023, Putin faced a failed mutiny by Yevgeny Prigozhin, leader of the mercenary Wagner group. Prigozhin's plane crashed two months to the day since the mutiny.

Putin, born in Leningrad just seven years after World War Two, has promised Russians victory in the Ukraine war, which he casts as a proxy conflict between holy Russia and an arrogant West which he says humiliated Russia as the Soviet Union crumbled.

As the West stepped up its support for Ukraine with hundreds of billions of dollars in pledged aid, Putin doubled down on his bet on war and used the West's reaction to depict the conflict as an existential battle for Russia's future.

According to a report published on Monday by Moscow-based Minchenko Consulting, Russians are increasingly seeing Putin as a figure who has managed to transform the global order, to their benefit.

"In domestic politics, Vladimir Putin every year acquires completely new features of the archetypal image of the Creator, who creates a new world order in which Russia will have a completely new role," Minchenko Consulting said.

Western leaders have repeatedly said that Putin cannot be allowed to win the war, and that if he does, the West's enemies will be emboldened and Putin might try attacking a NATO member, an assertion that Putin has repeatedly dismissed.

Russian forces are advancing in Ukraine and Putin has hiked defence spending to Cold War levels.

Currently, Russia controls a little under one fifth of Ukraine - including Crimea which it annexed in 2014, about 80% of Donbas in eastern Ukraine, about 71% of the Kherson region and 72% of Zaporizhzhia region.

Opponents have either left Russia, died or are silent. Russia's opposition, almost all abroad, are divided and have failed to find a new leader since the death of Alexei Navalny in an Arctic prison in February.

Navalny described Putin's Russia as a brittle criminal state run by thieves, sycophants and spies who care only about money. He had long forecast Russia could face seismic political turmoil, including revolution.

"With Putin, we shall be victorious," Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of the Russian parliament, said on Monday. "A strong president is a strong Russia."

True to form, FEMA’s massive convoys and flights carried no relief supplies and no medicine, only crates of automatic rifles, steel canisters packed with limitless ammunition to wage a bloody war against storm-torn refugees and their property, and a healthy supply of body bags, ostensibly to eternally house their victims.

No sooner had Helene’s winds waned and the torrential rain stopped than FEMA descended on the Tar Heel State with numbers not seen since the agency waged a bloody war of attrition in Lahaina two years ago.

One Ashville resident, whose house and belongings the storm demolished, would later tell Real Raw News that FEMA personnel seemingly outnumbered Asheville’s citizenry—population 94,000. Hyperbole aside, one fact is still certain: FEMA dispatched the equivalent of three US ARMY battalions to the Blue Ridge Mountains, having equipped them for a protracted conflict.

The same resident told us that when she asked FEMA where she could seek refuge until the flooding abated, the agents, carrying M-16s and pistols, suggested she find a hotel room outside the disaster area. Except there were no hotel rooms available; FEMA had already booked every room in a 150-mile radius. And even if she’d found one, she couldn’t have reached it, for her car got swept away like a raft when pouring rain transformed her street into white-water rapids. She’d lost her home, her car, her belongings, and she had neither food nor water. Adding insult to injury, an agent allegedly told her, “Too bad you lost it all. We could’ve made a deal if you had something to trade.”

As FEMA antagonized and intimidated citizens, another crisis unfolded in a Rutherford County village. On September 27, the majority of Chimney Rock, once a serene, scenic vista, was destroyed by flooding, with the Broad River inundating the village. Two days later, as residents struggled to save what they could, the Biden-Harris regime seized Chimney Rock under the auspices of eminent domain, an archaic, unconstitutional law that allows the federal government to wantonly and irrevocably confiscate private property for public use.

Residents of Chimney Rock suddenly found themselves confronting two opponents—the weather and federal forces. On September 30, FEMA surged upon the tiny 2.8-square-mile village and gave citizens a chilling ultimatum: Get out or else.

The storm had razed the village. Its population—a whopping 140 people—had lost everything, including cell service and any means of leaving Chimney Rock, as the floods had inundated what few roads led in and out. When residents refused to go on foot, FEMA agents pointed rifles at them, demanding they trek out in whatever footwear they were wearing or be shot.

One resident who braved the journey, wading through waist-deep water filled with venomous snakes and biting insects, told RRN on Friday he had witnessed FEMA agents gun down a neighbor who refused to vacate his flooded house. The same resident, a 36-year-old lithium miner, said, “There are bodies everywhere; I saw dozens floating in the water, bullet holes in all of them. I’m lucky to have made it out.”

Given FEMA’s lengthy history of terrorizing and murdering storm victims, an important question must be asked: Where were the White Hats, since General Smith is certainly not oblivious to FEMA’s recurring criminality?

As of Thursday, White Hats were in North Carolina and had engaged federal forces, a source in Gen. Smith’s office told RRN. “Better late than never,” he said.

Unsolved Mysteries: The True Story of the Roswell UFO Incident — and What Experts Are Still Trying to Debunk

Ufologists call the Roswell incident the “ultimate cold case file."

On the night of July 2, 1947, amid a severe lightning storm, ranchers outside of Roswell, N.M., recall hearing what sounded like an explosion.

The next day, W.W. "Mack" Brazel discovered debris in a field near his home — unlike any he'd ever seen.

After handing over the wreckage to the United States Air Force, the Roswell Army Airfield issued a press release stating that they'd captured a flying saucer.

Word spread around the world but the claims were quickly retracted 24 hours later.

The Air Force's revised statement informed citizens that the wreckage was not from a UFO, but merely remnants of a weather observation balloon that had crashed.

It's been nearly 80 years since the Roswell incident, and there are countless theories about what was found in New Mexico.

Ufologists Don Schmitt and Kevin Randle, who have been trying to uncover the truth since 1989, believe Roswell is the "one case that could solve the entire UFO mystery overnight."

Their findings about an alleged government cover-up are documented in Netflix's Unsolved Mysteries, volume 5, episode 4.

"I believe that the military experienced the recovery of an alien spacecraft. It’s where the evidence is leading us," Randle claimed in the episode.

"The Air Force says they have no evidence it was extraterrestrial.

I think that the files were gathered up and are in a different repository hidden deep in the archives of the government and therefore there was no paper trail to it."

Here's everything to know about the Roswell incident that has left many mystified.

On July 2, 1947, a crash took place in the desert 75 miles outside of Roswell, N.M. According to Schmitt and Randle's research, rancher W.W. "Mack" Brazel discovered metal-like debris in a field near his home the following day.

Brazel loaded up what wreckage he could into his truck and drove to Roswell where the 509th Composite Group was stationed.

This was the same unit of the United States Air Force that deployed the atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II.

Major Jesse Marcel, the head of intelligence, received the materials from Brazel, and on July 8, 1947, the Roswell Army Airfield issued a press release claiming that they'd captured a flying saucer.

Marcel was immediately ordered to board a B-29 bomber and deliver the wreckage to Brigadier General Roger Ramey in Fort Worth, Texas.

Upon his arrival, Marcel dropped the materials off in Ramey's office and the pair visited the map room.

When they returned, the wreckage was allegedly gone, with a clump of rotting neoprene rubber balloons and a shredded radar reflector kite in its place.

After allegedly instructing Marcel not to breathe a word of what happened to reporters or his family, Ramey held a press conference, claiming that the wreckage was remnants of a weather observation balloon crash.

Marcel stayed silent for 30 years. After becoming terminally ill, he spoke out in 1980 on the TV series In Search Of… about what he believed to be true.

“I knew that I had never seen anything like that before, and as of now, I don’t know what it was. It was not anything of this Earth.

That I’m quite sure of," he said before describing the materials. "You couldn’t even bend it. You couldn’t dent it. Even a sledgehammer would bounce off of it."

Following Ramey's press conference, the military sent troops to the desert to pick up evidence from the wreckage site.

Meanwhile, a team of archeologists from Western Texas Tech searched for the impact site and came across a pod — an egg-shaped craft the size of a Volkswagen Beetle 27 miles away from the debris field.

They allegedly discovered bodies that were not human.

Captain Oliver “Pappy” Henderson of the First Air Transport Unit flew the alleged bodies out of Roswell to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

MacDill Air Force Base orders partial evacuation ahead of Milton storm

The Air Force is moving aircraft and non-essential personnel out of MacDill Air Force Base once again, this time as the base braces for the approaching Tropical Storm Milton.

“At this time I am ordering a limited evacuation of Zone A for MacDill Air Force Base and Zones A and B and the mobile homes for the following counties: Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Manatee, Sarasota and Citrus,” Col. Edward Szczepanik, commander of the 6th Air Refueling Wing said on a video posted to Facebook on Sunday, Oct. 6.

The evacuation order comes a day after Szczepanik announced that the wing will be relocating its aircraft starting on Oct. 6. The planes “will return when flying conditions are favorable.”

The evacuation order goes into effect at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time on Monday, Oct. 7, according to the 6th Air Refueling Wing. It must be completed no later than 4 p.m. on Oct. 8. There is an exception, Szczepanik said; all personnel designated as mission essential must stay in place until they are released.

It’s the second time in less than a month that the base has moved its aircraft. When Hurricane Helene, which later weakened to a tropical storm, approached the southeast, commanders at MacDill Air Force Base moved its planes out of state, and also initiated a partial evacuation for personnel. Other aircraft were put in hangers to avoid damage. The base was hit hard, with flooding and loss and power. After the storm passed, it was still working to clear debris and reopen parts of the installation.
